‘Jeopardy’ EP Mike Richards In Advanced Negotiations To Replace Alex Trebek as Permanent Host

Photo: JPI

After all the trial host runs, replacing the irreplaceable and late game show host icon, Alex Trebek, it looks like Mike Richards, the current executive producer of the syndicated series is very, very close to finalizing a deal to become Trebek’s permanent replacement.

According to Variety who broke the news yesterday, Richards is in advanced negotiations with Sony Pictures Television to become permanent on-air host following Trebek’s 36-year-run.

Richards has been a game host throughout his TV career as well, when he hosted Divided and The Pyramid for Sony Pictures’ GSN network.  As an EP, Richards previously led The Price is Right and on the celebrity edition special of Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

May people have been guest hosts and been given a trial run to host the popular game show series since Trebek’s passing including: Mayim Bialik, Anderson Cooper, Katie Couric, Bill Whitaker, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Ken Jennings, George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts, LeVar Burton, Savannah Guthrie, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Aaron Rodgers  and more.

So, if a deal can be reached, how do you feel about frontrunner Richards as Jeopardy’s new host? Comment below.

Richards would be a great replacement. Wasn’t too impressed with the temporary hosts.

Totally agree, Carol. Mike was funny, poised, and sexy. Of all the guests, I liked him best.

Mike Richard’s was OK! I didn’t feel there was any one person who was far superior to the others. There were several who were highly anticipated that turned out to be duds (LaVar anyone?). They will never please everyone, so as long as the person isn’t boring or obnoxious, I’ll be fine with them. All these people threatening to stop watching aren’t really fans of the show. And the SHOW is the #1 reason to watch. It’s not a done deal yet, and there are still 3 others who are in the running, so this could just be a smoke… Read more »

I am thrilled and will start watching “Jeopardy” again. He is the closest to Alex that we can hope for. He’s articulate, good looking, knows the show like the back of his hand; and Alex’s replacements were nothing to write home about. The only one I liked was Buzzy Cohen. Basically I don’t watch “Jeopardy” these days but will do so again.

What a joke! Seems this was predetermined and they were just playing with us to get ratings. Not fair and not interested in Jeopardy any more.

I was greatly underwhelmed by his guest host performance. I thought his affect and voice seemed stiff and forced. He did not come across as an inviting individual.

I hope they pick Mayim Bialik. I really enjoyed her. I found her warm and inviting as a view and felt she was genuinely interested in the contestants. I was sorry to see her guest host period end.

As always, the powers that be will do what they want.

ESPN Sports Personality and ‘General Hospital’ Guest Star, Stephen A. Smith Reveals COVID-19 Nearly Took His Life

In a harrowing account of coming down with Covid-19, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, who also has a recurring role on General Hospital as Brick, revealed his battle over the holidays that led to him being hospitalized because of the severity of his symptoms.

On Monday, Smith returned to his co-hosting gig on ESPN’s First Take and it was there he shared what happened during his breakthrough case of Covid.  Stephen had been fully vaccinated. Smith said that he had tested positive late in December and wound up in the hospital with pneumonia in both lungs over New Years.

Stephen A. discussed the details, expressing:  “I had 103 degree fever every night. Woke up with chills and a pool of sweat. Headaches were massive. Coughing profusely. And it got to a point where right before New Year’s Eve, I was in the hospital into New Year’s Day. That’s how I brought in the New Year.”

He went on to say about contracting Covid-19: “For me personally, it hit me differently. (Doctors) told me, had I not been vaccinated, I wouldn’t be here. That’s how bad I was. I had pneumonia in both lungs. My liver was bad, and it ravaged me to the point where even now I have to monitor my volume, get to the gym every day … I’m still not 100% with my lungs, but I’m Covid negative … I’m on the road to recovery.”

On a happier note, Smith shared how glad he was to be back at work after testing negative: “I’m ecstatic to be back. I’ve missed being at work. I’ve used more sick days in the last month than I’ve used in my 28-year career in this business.  And I can’t tell you how lucky and sincerely blessed I am to be sitting here with you guys today because two-and-a-half, three weeks ago, I didn’t know if I was gonna make it.”

So, glad to know Stephen A. is on the mend from a very scary bout with Covid? Share your thoughts in the comment section

All My Children

TONIGHT: All My Children’s Debbi Morgan and Darnell Williams Together Again on All-New Episode of ‘Our Kind of People’

The Fox drama, Our Kind of People (9 pm ET/8pm CT), will feature a reunion, of sorts, on tonight’s January 18th episode when Debbi Morgan (Ex-Angie, All My Children) once again shares screen-time with her former on-screen soap opera love, Darnell Williams (Ex-Jesse, All My Children).

While mum’s the word as to Williams role, we know that Debbi plays Angela’s Aunt Piggy on the series, and in last week’s installment, Piggy went to the police station to turn herself in for the murder of her ex-boyfriend years ago.  However, Darnell’s character could hold the key as to what really went down in the murder.

Debbi spoke to TV Line about acting again with Darnell: “We were shooting the scene when Darnell’s character walks through the door for the first time.  And it was the first time we see this character on the show, and I looked at him and shouted, ‘Jesse!’ The director had to yell cut and everyone fell out laughing. It was hilarious. I knew that wasn’t his name on Our Kind of People but I couldn’t help myself. We worked together for so many years as Angie and Jesse and that’s the first thing that came to my mind.”

For those who have not checked out Our Kind of People, it takes place in the aspirational world of Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard, a historical stronghold where the rich and powerful Black elite have come to play for over 50 years.

In story, strong-willed single mom Angela Vaughn (Ex-AMC star, Yaya Decosta) sets out to reclaim her family’s name and make an impact with her revolutionary hair care line that highlights the innate, natural beauty of Black women, but she soon discovers a dark secret about her own mother’s past that will turn her world upside-down and shake up this community forever. The show is a soapy, thrilling exploration of race and class in America and an unapologetic celebration of Black resilience and achievement.

The series is from writer and executive producer Karin Gist (Star, Grey’s Anatomy) and executive producer Lee Daniels (Empire, The United States Vs. Billie Holiday).

So, will you be watching Debbi and Darnell together on tonight’s Our Kind of People? Comment below.
