Jimmy Fallon Has Fun With GH Milking Character Reactions During Baby Connie Custody Hearing!

Courtesy/ABC

Courtesy/ABC

In a hilarious few minutes of Jimmy Fallon’s opening monologue on last night’s episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, the host began a comedy bit by saying how upset he was over the online cancellation of All My Children the other week, and so he is now looking for a new soap opera to watch, but also how much he loves his General Hospital! Fallon then says that even on GH, they milk people’s reaction to big news and then launches into a clip from baby Connie’s custody hearing when Maxie is on the stand and Alexis brings up that she was a murderer!

And what ensued was the facial expressions and reactions, one after the other, of the characters in the courtroom without speaking, with the help of some clever editing!  Watch the reactions of Port Charles citizens: Lulu, Alexis, Maxie, Felicia, Spinelli and more! Three of our favorites were Franco and Carly, and Dante!

This was a very fun way for a late night show to pay homage to the soaps, and GH, and to take a look at one of the staples of soapdom  … those lingering prolonged looks and reaction shots!  Watch the Jimmy Fallon monologue that contains the GH courtroom custody drama after the jump at about 1:19 minutes into it! And then let us know, whose reaction gave you the best chuckle?

Funny… but still makes me wonder, if so many people are saying they are fans of the soaps, why is ABC not listening?

the only reason gh had sucess and huge rating is because the actors from oltl ,without them they were in Pit Coasters, these 3 will ever be todd ,star and jihn and not the crap abc made them.

Missed opportunity… I would have made it even longer. We had the Maxie/Lulu court case one episode, and the AJ/Connie murder case the day after. They could have used courtroom staring from AJ, Monica, Michael, Kiki, Liz (who also testified against Maxie earlier, and came back for the AJ trial to testify against him), Diane appeared at both trials, Sonny appeared at both, Scott Baldwin…. Plenty of opportunity to stretch it out!

Can’t stand Jimmy Fallon and the bit wasn’t all that funny.
The saxophone was soooo lame and he laughs way too much at his own “jokes,” if you can call them that. I mean, Leno is lame too, but this guy will take the Tonight show off the air for good once he’s in charge.

GH EP Frank Valentini On Taping the Sonya Eddy Tribute Episode: “It Was an Extraordinary Script, and It Was a Labor of Love That Day”

This week on General Hospital, the ABC daytime dramas series kicks off its 60th anniversary set of episodes, with what is sure to be the most emotional – the tribute episode for the late Sonya Eddy in honor of her beloved GH character, Epiphany Johnson.

GH’s executive producer spoke with Soap Opera Digest (in their latest issue on newsstands now), about how the show decided to handle the delicate subject of a real-life cast member’s passing and connect it to the story on the canvas of the soap opera.

In conjunction with GH co-head writers, Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor, the trio decided that if they weren’t ever going to be able to see Sonya as Epiphany again, that there was no way they were going to ever recast the role.  Valentini shared: “We decided it was important to honor not only Sonya, but Epiphany and we wanted to dedicate a full entire episode all about that.”

The EP went on to give praise to his writers, and the cast for their performances when taping the episode: “I think everyone was touched by what the writer’s wrote. It was an extraordinary script and it was a labor of love that day in honor of Sonya, who was so incredibly loved by everybody in the cast and  crew.

The way the death of Epiphany is structured on the airshows is key also to the upcoming Nurses’ Ball episodes set to air the following week. Frank expressed: “Epiphany is a very pivotal person in the Nurses’ Ball, so it’s almost like a part two (of her tribute).

The Sonya Eddy tribute episode airs Wednesday March 29th.

Are you looking forward to seeing how GH honors Sonya and the beloved Epiphany of GH? Comment below.
