John Burke To Debut As Chelsea’s New Husband On Y&R
Chelsea’s (Melissa Claire Egan) new hubby will be hitting your screens this week on The Young and the Restless, according to a report from Soap Opera Digest in their latest issues on newsstand now.
On Tuesday’s July 2nd episode, look for the role of Calvin Boudreau to hit your screens in the form of actor John Burke. He will play the man now hitched to Chelsea. Burke is scheduled to appear in several episodes as of now in the arc of this story.
Burke is no stranger to daytime soaps having appeared on Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Bold and the Beautiful, previously,
John also has plenty of primetime and movie credits including appearances on Perception, How to Get Away with Murder, Henry Danger, and more.
What will go down when Adam (Mark Grossman) finds out that his other son, Connor is being raised by another man, too? What will be Adam’s next move to get Chelsea back … or are you rooting for Shadam over Chadam? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

Is Melissa Claire Egan returning permanently? If so, I hope her marriage to this Calvin guy ends because Chelsea & Adam are endgame. It will be interested to see the chemistry that Mark and Melissa have on screen, since both Michael Muhney and Justin Hartley had great chemistry with her.
So far, Mark hasn’t really popped with Sharon Case, and I think it’s because of the age difference being so noticeable. That’s why I’m hesitant to see an Adam/Phyllis pairing, which is where I thought they were going with them. It may have worked with Gina’s version of Phyllis because she’s almost 10 years younger than Michelle Stafford, but not now.
P.S. I still think Y&R dropped the ball and should have cast Coby Ryan McLaughlin as Adam. They had him playing a very minor role last year as a Jabot tech, when they should have realized his potential and endless talent as a character like Adam. He plays Shiloh on GH so devilishly well, and there are many similar character traits between them (aside from the whole sexual predator thing, obviously).
Do not want Case with either of the Newman boys let her get out of that merry go round but the age difference doesn’t seem to bother people if it is a old man geezer pawing all over a woman twenty to thirty years his junior. Trust me even the new Adam said the crew was in awe of Case’s body in the fantasy love scene

Sharon hasn’t popped with this Adam because she is more “Mommy” than “wifey”…… the imbalance is blinding–hurts my eyes, albeit I love Sharon.
I’m not a fan of Chelsea, but, at least, she is closer in age.

I think there will be some competitive cat fights between Phyllis and Celeste—-over Jack!! Don’t know why!! The writers should stop putting Jack on the Adonis pedestal–he grosses me out–settle him down, please!!
After all that exercise he engaged in with someone thirty-five years younger; one would think he’d be exhausted. That Viagra must be pretty potent.
Again, I agree about Coby—not only is he “devilish”, he is a great actor—fits the mold. He has the ability to make us loath him intensely—well, I do, anyway. He is that good.
Mark, as Adam, is lacking a myriad of evil ingredients….that glacial stare attributed to bad-boy-Adam, is one…..
Yet, Adam’s character has vacillated between good and evil so many times, I really don’t care how this goes down.
Justin Hartley was the complete opposite of Michael Muhney. So, who knows how “they” will characterize Mark in the future……-he’s a tyro–fresh, holding a blank slate.
Adam did use his sexual wiles in a very disturbing way, if you remember ( with Rafe)? Ergo, he does have that inherent sexual predatory factor ( MM did). ….with this guy? We shall see– too green, in my opinion.
This Adam is way too young for this show. Period. He looks even younger than Noah. Awful.
He resembles the conartist/ hlf sibling of Ashley. Graham. Who swindled Dinah. Would ve been a nice twist if Graham got out of jail early( forget how he exited) and came across Chelsea in Genoa city and tracked her down for her $$.
Another nice twist is if Tracey recognizes John Burke as a her exlover who intruth was the cause of her divorce from Steve. It could amp up the cute Tracey/Cane story.
Regardless cant wait to see nuAdam who i luv bury this new character. This new Adam is ruthless
Is nuAdam hitting it out of the park or what? I love this guy!!!. I am with you on how the new character looks so much like Graham. At least we know with the newest Adam on board, there will be plenty of great scenes no matter what the story is with or without this new character being brought in.
He does resemble Graham. BTW, Graham is not Ashley’s half-sibling. I believe her bio-father was Graham’s stepfather.
What a great tutorial all of this is; twisting the real and professional presence is a challenge! Will read on!
Chadam! Sharon has come a long way and I hope they aren’t turning her into the gullible and erratic character she once was.
I think “Chelsea’s husband”should be on for years to come. He is a prime candidate to take over dark horse and run with it. Don’t bring him in and then drop him. Make him a recon to be forced with. Victor and Jack and him. Maybe even have his character take over Chancellor industries. Jill could sell to him. Billy could pair up with him from working to being his ally against Adam. There’s so much you could do with his character. And stop killing off all the kids and young adults, there won’t be a gone to be Erste new story lines.ilirs kids could also bring in a great story line and Faith. She needs to find her passion and go with it, instead of making her a spoiled brat character. Don’t forget Moses. He’s old enough now to start a story for him too. Who will replace Victor when the time comes, well Charlie could be the new string

Britney Sarpey. Who went from playing Bobbie’s niece Valerie on GH to Y&R. I watched her entire story there as well. What’s so silly about that? I’m implying just what you and Lew think I’m implying.
I think you are implying that Calvin Boudreau sounds like a black name, which I think is unfortunate, because there are many white men with the name Calvin (Calvin Coolidge, Calvin Klein). The character is from the south, so it is not that uncommon.
That is what I implied because the name sounded so out of left field. But then I realized I watch Swamp People and the Cajun names in Louisiana and New Orleans and now it makes sense. It was too late, the response was out and that’s that. Oh well. Moving on.

Not having lived my entire life down south i tend to process some common first and last name combos on a different level. I grew up in a VERY diverse East coast small town in the 60’s and “Meggie’s having a party”-was different than “Florine’s having a party”- for me. As a matter of fact we never encountered racial disparity till the very early 80’s. By then I was a senior in high school and could have cared less. LOL. Once I posted the comment I thought “Hmmm…that might not go over well. But, it’s what I thought so who cares “. Just an observation. And I laughed a lot when I saw the actors Pic. So. He has been acting like a piece of crap to not only his family, since he’s been back, but to just about everyone he comes in contact with. Look what he’s doing to Kevin alone, keeping him away from Chloe and Bella. Didn’t he do enough killing Chloe’s daughter, be it accidental or not? Why can’t he give them a little peace.

Hey Richard, Hope all is well – What would you like to see on Y&R? The problem is Mal Young brought in a slew of new characters and no one liked them or liked only a few. Myself included. I think there has to be a well balance between the veteran cast members and new additions. I think the new head writer is trying to slowly make that happen.
hey lew i am not sure what i want to see here but after 20 years i am close to tuning out i watch days everyday and love the writing and look forward to each episode bold is even better than restless right now while many scream about mal young he did move the show forward gave us the best kyle ever made me like lily but im sorry josh griffith who wrote a depressing 50th for days is really not doing it for me since when is chelsea a legacy character because that is how he is treating her and nu adam can act i will not deny but he is on everyday and is not likeable whatsoever and lastly josh ruined kyle oh summer thanks for the kidney you are done back to lola . rey and lola need to go but no one can tell me they like the devon storyline everyone involved there needs to go the show is boring
I hear you Richard and I agree with you quite a bit. A little less of Adam would be good and this is the best Kyle ever. I think Y&R is trying to satisfy the viewers that have hung in for years and bringing in younger characters to attract the new generation. Not an easy thing, because you can’t please everyone. I hope you hang in there, because I think things will get better.

Richard you and Lew had an interesting discussion. The “Oh summer thanks for the kidney you are done back to lola” got me. There was a wonderful premise in that storyline that could have been a torn love affair, a torn feeling of quilt, a torn feeling twix almost anything philosophical and everything. Now it looks the writer’s missed; however, it isn’t too late.
I may be butting into this discussion, but I couldn’t find a better place to make my comment, so do not think I am arguing with what you all said.
It just bugs me everytime I hear Summer go on and on with the poor me attitude, over her marriage to Kyle. She agreed to the marriage, in return for her kidney, period! She knew he loved Lola, but she went on acting like the happy bride to be, promoting the wedding night and honeymoon, acting like they were the happy couple, when she knew that it was just a consensual agreement. It was not a marriage made in heaven, nor was it supposed to last forever.I for one do not feel she was used or betrayed in anyway.

Although this new Calvin is so very good looking, I like Chelsea with someone more Nick’s age, preferably Nick himself, but I think that ship has sailed. Every time I see Adam, I like him even less than the time before. I hate what he’s selfishly doing to everyone he comes in contact with. Hopefully Chelsea’s husband will be able to settle his hash, so to speak. There has to be someone out there that can throw something at him, and make it stick.

TPTB should have never aged Adam that drastically; but, since they did, then they should have stuck to keeping him in his forties.

the woman are botox, lifts, wigs, they are Not natural.

Y&R struggles to keep them young looking..
Victor/Eric is natural and the one and only gray hair on screen, no other senior citizens have gray natural hair(Jack, Lauren, Cain, Michael, Nikki, Tracy, Paul, Others are all phony with wigs, toupees, botox and it is very obvious.

I have been preaching that particular ‘gospel’ forever—but, I get shut down and called an ageist. I am actually a realist. We all age—I simply like to think in an orderly fashion—-including age. Yeah, it’s a soap….but, removing myself from these constant unrealistic situations becomes tedious—I get impatient, Violet.
All I can say is that I hope my husband will display the same stamina as these elderly gentlemen in thirty/forty years…..yeah!!
I thought the hookup between Jack and that young British, company spy ( forgot her name) was over the top–how did Jack keep up? What about Victor and the prison doctor??
Off topic–thank you for the reply–I have not had a good night sleep for years. I am a worrior!! I worry about my kids constantly—when I go to bed, I can’t seem to shut my brain off–subliminal music helps….. Melatonin ( CALM SLEEP) does work for me, however I do not like to abuse anything. Melatonin is safe–but, stay away from Ambien. I heard strange things about the effects of that drug. I am not the type to dabble in ‘stuff’—-I must be the only creature on earth who’s never even tried pot. God’s Word!! Truth!!

I think the only natural-looking woman on Y&R is Melody/Nikki—no plastic surgery. Hair color is Ok–I don’t think any of us appreciates gray hair- To each his/her own, sweet, SusieQ….If these women ( and men) feel better emotionally by going under the knife knowingly aware of the risks, the sobeit!!
I guess it’s easy for anyone our age to disparage plastic surgery. I don’t know how I will feel about it when my jaw starts to sag–or other parts?!?!
Yet, I would not go so far as to look ridiculous. No offence to “Lauren”; but she looks like a Barbie doll. This is not a criticism because she does look gorgeous—but, at the cost of looking “man-made” in Hollywood?? Nah. I think Susan Lucci looks the best—little tuc here and there throughout the years is more acceptable. No drastic change; and her looks are “reasonable” for someone her age.

Well, I look at it this way—how sure can we be Christian is actually Adam’s? If Victor, Sharon and so many others could switch test results when the mood strikes them, willy-nilly, at any given moment…..anything is possible.
I think Victor knows……he had a plan that went awry. Now, he can’t take it back? How is that possible?? He’s Victor Newman, Zeus, Apollo, Odin, Ra, Indra, Jupiter, Neptune, and Mars ( etc.) all rolled into one.

I stopped watching AMC when it started airing commercials and focused less on movies because of all the series. Apparently, he stopped, too.

The scting was impeccable today!! I don’t like Chelsea, but, WOW!! She truly showed her acting skills–her facial expressions spoke volumes…

It’s all about the acting—if an actor/actress can give off these vibes—strong enough to elicit a feeling from the viewer, then he/she has sharp acting skills.
I agree–I admire Sharon. She looks fantabulous—in her late forties and still gets away with wearing Daisy Dukes–wears them well–better than the original. LOL—whom we shall see on the Y&R stage again, very soon, I hear….

Haven’t seen last episodes. Thought he might be attached to the “underworld.” Her ring was rather outstanding. Who could match 50 Million and know about Adam’s whereabout? ..
OMG, a debut and a demise, in a matter of hours, wow! This should be very interesting, to say the least. What Chelsea’s husband said to her, on one hand sounded reasonable, but on the other hand as a mother, I would have wanted to kill him on the spot, but certainly not sleep in the same bed, as it implies , when she said, ” we went to bed”. I am also thinking that the part Gordon Thomson is playing may be a relative of Calvin’s.

There was never any doubt that in watching the riveting and emotional scenes on General Hospital which featured Finola Hughes as a PTSD-driven and mentally tortured Anna Devane, that when the climatic moments in Anna’s story aired, that we would not be singing the praises of Hughes. Once again, Finola showcased why she is one of the soap opera genres greatest assets and actresses.
In the key scenes, Anna has had a complete breakdown as she has lured and cornered Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) on Mount Emerson, and even thought through how she would kill her and cover it up, all thanks to hearing the voice and seeing a dead man, Peter August (Wes Ramsey). It’s visions of Peter that keeps egging Anna on to pull the trigger on Britt while in her delusional state.
Before Britt realizes that Anna trapped her in meeting her in Mount Emerson, she is very confused as to why she was all the way out in the boondocks to talk about what happened to her brother, Cassius Faison. However, Britt soon learned that what Anna was about to do is personal, and not professional, as she pulls the gun on her.

ANNA FIRES HER GUN IN GAME-CHANGING MOMENT
When Jason (Steve Burton) shows up to save the say, he tries to talk Anna off the ledge, begging her to not shoot Britt and make one of the greatest mistakes of his life. When Jason figured out Anna felt she needed to kill anyone related to Cesar Faison, he made her think twice, because that would mean, she also would need to end the lives of two of Maxie’s children, James and Bailey Lu.
Anna can’t stop seeing hallucinations of Peter pushing her to shoot Britt. Suddenly and completely overcome, Anna fires bullets straight in the direction of where she sees Peter as she declares this all must end tonight.
After the shots are fired, Anna realized what she had done and just sobbed and shook. It was a devastating and heartbreaking moment for longtime General Hospital fans to see the beloved Anna Devane, super spy, so lost. Anna explained to Jason, after he was able to disarm her, how she was being pushed to kill Britt by her visions of Peter.
EMMY-WORTHY SCENES FOR 2027
In another hankie-inducing moment, Anna just grabs Jason and breaks down in his arms. If these weren’t Emmy-worthy scenes, we don’t know what is, and it must be remembered by Hughes, General Hospital, and hopefully the voting body of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) when Emmy submissions and voting get underway in 2027 for the 54th annual Daytime Emmys.

RATINGS: ‘General Hospital’ Shows Most Gains in Total Viewers Week-Over-Week and Up in Key Demo
The ratings are out for the week of August 24-28 for your favorite broadcast television soaps, and it was ABC’s General Hospital which added the most total viewers and planted itself firmly in third place in its battle with Beyond the Gates in the key demos of women 18-49 and 25-54.
According to Soap Opera Network, all daytime dramas were up year-over-year, and General Hospital was joined by The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful with gains in their total audience viewership, while Beyond the Gates was only slightly off pace for the ratings week.
Let’s take a look at what had viewers tuning-in, starting with General Hospital, who added +79,000 viewers. While still under the 2 million viewers mark (which they can hopefully return in the coming weeks) their overall tally was an average of 1, 935,000 tuning-in, while still up year-to-year +136,000.
GENERAL HOSPITAL
In addition, GH while actually down from the previous week in the 18-49 ratings share, they still out performed Beyond the Gates for third place. However, GH was firmly in third place for the 25-54 ratings share.
The stories that were featured for the week included: Anna’s (Finola Hughes) PTSD and struggle with painful memories tied to Cesar Faison, and her concocting a plan to get rid of Britt (Kelly Thiebaud), Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) recording Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna) threatening her, and later running into a severe threat from Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) regarding Kai (Jens Austin Astrup) and Drew’s (Cameron Mathison) shooting, and Drew enlisting Ava (Maura West) to gain leverage over Jack, which resulted in Ava drugging him, while Drew went snooping for the evidence Brennan had against him.

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS
Y&R remained in the top spot amongst all the soaps once again with 3,062,000 tuning in, and up +35,000 for the week, while year-to-year still showing strong gains at +231,000 viewers. However, while Y&R remained #1 for the 25-54 ratings share, it fell to #2 in the 18-49 ratings share behind The Bold and the Beautiful.
In story for the week, Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) sobriety in rehab was a focus, as was Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) hitting the Jabot office couch and having sex for the first time, and Lily (Christel Khalil) and Billy (Jason Thompson) battling over control and ownership of Chancellor Industries.

THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL
B&B is continuing to be inch closer to Y&R for the top spot, separated by a little more than 300,000 viewers. For the ratings week, the series posted a total audience of 2,719,000 adding +31,000 eyeballs overall, and like Y&R, is up year-to-year in its performance.
The CBS soap now , now in its 40th season is +217,000 from the same time last year. In the key demos, The Bold and the Beautiful was in the top spot for the women 18-49 ratings share and number two for women 25-54.
In story, the major threat to Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Finn (Tanner Novlan) and Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) and Daphne’s (Murielle Hilaire) marriages continued as Steffy and Carter swore they would not tell their spouses that the two had a drunken hook-up. But as viewers know now, Steffy is pregnant!

BEYOND THE GATES
Beyond the Gates tallied an average of 1,611,000 total viewers for the week, up +72.000 year-over-year and down slightly in tune-in for the week losing just -36,000 viewers. The CBS soap came in fourth place in the key demos for the week behind General Hospital, with whom they are often trading places for the third spot.
In story, after Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett) was released from the hospital, Hayley (Marquita Goings) stuck to her plan, doubling down on poisoning him and even getting caught in a major lie or meeting with Randy (Maurice P. Kerry), as Vernon (Clifton Davis) may be on to her machinations.

Kelly Sullivan Gives High Praise to ‘General Hospital’s’ Maura West Recalling When Ava Shot Connie (Exclusive)
It was just over 13 years ago on General Hospital when Ava Jerome (Maura West) shot and killed Kate Howard/Connie Falconeri (Kelly Sullivan) in an effort to keep her quiet from revealing that Derek Wells was actually Ava’s back-from-the-dead brother, Julian Jerome (William deVry). It’s a crime that somehow Ava never has quite paid for either.
The episode back aired on August 13, 2013 and viewers had to say goodbye to Kelly Sullivan who played Kate and her alter, Connie. In the story, just before she died, Kate/Connie scrawled the letters AJ in her own blood, initially making the PCPD and Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) think that it was AJ Quatermaine (Sean Kanan) who did the deed.
Now, Sullivan recalled sharing scenes with the three-time Daytime Emmy-winning West, during a live conversation on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel. Kelly was the special guest talking about her recent return to the soaps in her new role as The Bold and the Beautiful’s Darcy Dylan.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF MAURA WEST
Speaking of her final GH scenes and working with Maura West, Sullivan gave her then GH co-star major props. “If you’re going to be shot by somebody (on the soaps), you want to be shot by Maura West, c’mon!”
Maura West debuted back in May 2013 as Ava, and Sullivan remembered when the As the World Turns favorite began on GH. “I remember when Maura West first arrived at GH. She walked in with this cute little bob (hairdo) and she’s just delicious,” shared Sullivan.
A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE
Kelly revealed more about Maura, adding “I think she’s amazing! I remember right before I left the show, someone suggested, and I would still love to do this with her, if she ever want to, but someone suggested that they wanted to direct the stage play A Streetcar Named Desire with Maura and I, where I would play Stella and she would play Blanche! Wouldn’t that be great?”
Speaking of the Ava/Connie showdown scenes, Sullivan expressed, “On television and on General Hospital specifically, Maura West is able to play a character who does the most horrendous things and you still care about her and that’s the mark of a really great actor. In other words, you’re able to be liked in the midst of the most horrendous things, and as a performer not shying away from that, and to just have the courage to do what’s on the page (in the script).”

KELLY SULLIVAN PARTING THOUGHTS AS SHE LEFT GENERAL HOSPITAL
Kelly also shared her sentiments when she walked off the set of General Hospital after her run back in August of 2013. “I really was honored. Every day I would go to work and I would say a little prayer, which is I want to do justice for my character, explained Kelly. “It’s between me and my character. I get to walk this path with her and to leave the show on that note, which is, I left every out there. I just gave it my all and again what an honor it was to play Kate/Connie.”
