Today, on the Friday, March 7 episode of Beyond the Gates, soap opera veteran, Jon Lindstrom makes his debut in his brand new role on the brand new soap opera.

Viewers have loved Lindstrom’s work as twins Kevin Collins and Ryan Chamberlain on General Hospital, and as Craig Montgomery on As the World Turns, but get ready to meet Casino Owner, and a guy you might now want to bring home to mother, Joey Armstrong on Beyond the Gates.

Taking to his Instagram ahead of his debut, Lindstrom shared, “I debut today on this show that people seem to be talking a little bit about. I’m starting to think that when someone says, ‘Joey Armstrong wants to see you,’ it’s not a welcome sound… ”

Ahead of the premiere of Beyond the Gates, Michael Fairman TV, along with other media, participated in a virtual conversation with members of the cast of the new CBS daytime drama series, where Lindstrom gave us the low down on Joey Armstrong.

Jon shared, “He’s a bit of an entrepreneur in a kind way. Joey comes from the other side of the tracks. He has fought his way up in many ways, but he’s never lost his charm. But Joey runs a casino, which, if you’ve ever been inside a casino, you know a casino is kind of like what a bar is to an alcoholic. So, people can get into a lot of trouble around Joey, and Joey doesn’t like trouble. He knows how to end trouble, but he doesn’t like trouble.”

In his first scenes, Lindstrom will appear with actor Jason Graham who plays Doug in Beyond the Gates. Doug is deep in gambling debt and needs money to get him out of a jam. Enter Joey! Will Doug fall into a disturbing loan from Joey that he will never be able to pay back and thus put his life and others he knows in peril? Stay tuned.

Beyond the Gates re-teams Lindstrom with his longtime friend and writer, Michele Val Jean who serves as the creator, head writer, executive producer and showrunner of the new CBS soap. Val Jean was instrumental to the original Kevin and Ryan storyline on GH, which offered up some of Lindstrom’s most revered performances in his daytime career.  “Everybody knows that Michelle is the best writer in the business,” shared Jon. “They may not want to admit it, especially if they’re another writer, but she is the very best in the business.”

So, are you looking forward to seeing Jon Lindstrom as Joey Armstrong on Beyond the Gates? After you watch today’s episode let us know what you thought of Jon’s on-screen introduction via the comment section.

Recast Kevin on GH. He’s been absent for too long. Or write off the character. Laura married to invisible man is too ridiculous.

Kevin definitely needs to be on canvas. I agree, Laura being married to the invisible man is too ridiculous. With the annoying Lulu up and running around plus the missing serial killer brother, Laura’s psychiatrist husband should be by her side.

So many times he should’ve been by her side; she sat alone during Lulu’s surgery. She sat alone when Lucky was stabbed with Cyrus’s drug. She’s constantly on her own. Even when Lulu returned, he had a one-minute scene which was basically, “Hey Lulu, great to see ya!” (lol) And that he had to dash off. I have no idea if it was the powers-that-be to not write for the character anymore, or if John wanted/wants out of GH, but he needs to be one or the other: on more, written off with a plausible reason, or they need to divorce. I hate to say it, because I always loved “Kevn” and Jon in the role. Such a down-to-earth, stable, comforting, wise, character. Loved his fun cray cray marriage to Lucy, years, loved his best pals with Mac, but that’s GH history now. But keeping her married at this point is absurd if he’s not even around for pivotal scenes.

I heard a rumor that they are replacing Jon Lindstrom with a person of color to play Kevin Collins and that they are bringing back Ryan from the dead.

Ryan’s definitely not leaving Hell again. His mother missed him too much.

So excited to see Jon on today’s episode. He’s been side-lined on General Hospital for too long.

Definitely looking forward to his on screen debut!! Can’t wait to watch it!

Hey you guys, ” don’t worry bout it” He’s probably not as bad as some of his “customers”

Tamara Tunie and Scott Bryce

As many are celebrating their nominations for the upcoming 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on October 30, for some it was a “mixed bag of emotions,” as detailed by first time nominee Tamara Tunie (Anita Dupree, Beyond the Gates), who was named as one of the five women in the coveted Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress category.

The Lead Actress nominations were actually announced on Monday on Entertainment Tonight, ahead of the full nomination announcement by NATAS on Tuesday. Sadly, on Sunday night, Tamara’s longtime friend, and former As the World Turns co-stars, Scott Bryce (ex-Craig Montgomery) passed away from cancer at 68-years-old.

Michael Fairman TV first reported the heartbreaking news of Scott’s death, and his beloved son, Jackson took to his Instagram to announce the death of his father, sharing, “What began as stage three esophageal cancer eventually spread and became brain tumors that took his life away from him.”

THE LOSS OF ‘AS THE WORLD TURNS’ CO-STAR

Tamara spoke on receiving the recognition from peers while mourning the loss and trying to process the news of Bryce’s death via heartfelt message on her Instagram on Wednesday. Tunie had appeared on As the World Turns as Jessica Griffin from 1986-1995, 1999-2007 and 2009. She crossed paths with Bryce during several of his runs on the show 1982-1987, 1988-89, 1990, 1993-94 and 2007-08.

In her video message, Tunie explained she was at the airport in Atlanta (where Beyond the Gates is taped) and was heading to Pittsburgh for a speaking engagement, but she took a few moments to address these two moments in her life.

Tamara began her video with, “Hey family. I didn’t want to let any more time go by without expressing some of the emotions I had been feeling over the past couple of days. Many of you know that a dear friend of mine passed Sunday night. He was like a brother to me. We were friends for 40 something years and we actually met on the set of As the World Turns, a daytime drama. Monday, a mere 24 hours later, it was announced that I was nominated for an Emmy award for Lead Actress in a Daytime Drama.”

Sharing how the loss of Scott Bryce has deeply-affected her, Tamara added, “So, you can only imagine the rollercoaster of emotions that I have been feeling since Sunday night. I know my daytime soap opera brother is smiling down on me and cheering me on, and I am so grateful for this recognition from my peers. Being nominated for the first time it’s a mixed bag of feelings I have to tell you.”

BEYOND THE GATES FAMILY SCORES BIG IN EMMY NOMINATIONS

However, Tamara took some moments to recognize Beyond the Gates Emmy nomination haul, expressing, “I’m looking forward to the next couple of months leading up to the awards as we continue to create great television. I am so proud of the rest of my cast members, not only those who are nominated, but every single person who works on this show and gives a hundred percent of themselves every single time they show up. Our crew, our production staff, the Beyond the Gates family is truly special.”

“To have these 15 nominations is really extraordinary. Thank you family for watching. Thank you for supporting us. Thank you for supporting me,” concluded Tunie.

You can check out Tamara’s emotional video message below.

Now, let us know, are you happy to see Tamara receiving the first Daytime Emmy nomination of her career for her role as Anita on Beyond the Gates?
