Tajh Bellow (Dr. TJ Ashford) was officially bumped to recurring status with General Hospital after the airing of the ABC daytime drama series February 21st episode where his name no longer appeared in the closing credits.

The Daytime Emmy-nominated actor had been with the show since 2018 and was eventually upped to series regular status in 2022. He last appeared on the soap opera back in December of 2024. Now comes word of his first role since the change in contract status at GH.

Bellow is heading to South Africa to appear in a new production of the 2002 pulitzer prize winning play, Topdog/Underdog at the iPhulo Premium Drama Festival. The two-person play stars Tajh along with Abraham Amkpa, the weekend of March 14 and 15th at Little Theatre in Athenaeum Nelson Mandela Bay, Eastern Cape, South Africa.

Topdog/Underdog, written by Suzan-Lori Parks, is a fable of brotherly love and sibling rivalry. In story, Lincoln and Booth are brothers haunted by their past as well as their names. When Lincoln gets a gig impersonating his namesake, Booth takes over his brother’s old racket as a three-card monte dealer. The play has such themes as secrets, lies, and competition, where the stakes get higher and higher.

The South African production is produced by Rebecca Jackson and directed by Niyi Coker. The original Broadway production starred Don Cheadle and Jeffrey Wright in the lead roles, where eventually Mos Def replaced Cheadle.

What do you think of Tajh appearing in Topdog/Underdog? Hoping GH will bring him back sooner or later for some Ashford family drama? Can you ever see TJ and Molly (Kristen Vaganos) reconnecting somewhere down the line? Comment below.

Tahj is a wonderful actor so congrats to him!

Perhaps Michele Val Jean can scoop him up and give him a role on Beyond The Gates…

I hope the actor moves on from soaps like Chavez did. AIM HIGH and succeed big!!!

I was thinking the same thing.

Tahj was a great actor in the role and I definitely felt there was quite a lot of story still to tell with these two characters. Seeing them come back to one another after Kristina jumped out of the window and killed Molly’s daughter, Irene!

But my question is to Michael Fairman. Why are there no articles on what are soaps doing wrong? Why they have good actors and refuse to write for them? Why black actors disappear while the white ones seem to move onto new story and be involved in more than 1. For every black actor written out we see a new white character brought in. When Isiah came in they disposed of Tahj/TJ so why nothing on that?

Plenty of fluff pieces but nothing critiquing the shows and stories, writers and why fans are leaving the show. Don’t worry, I dont expect any answers.

All other forms of entertainment in Hollywood are subject to criticism from reporters and critics so why do soaps think that they should be exempt. It is time for soap columnists to do the same not just fluff pieces. GH in particular really needs some constructive criticism. The show is really a mess right now. I finally quit watching 4 months ago after watching for almost 45 years.

Paul you raise some excellent questions that I think GH needs to address ASAP. Beyond The Gates is going to crush classic soaps like GH & Y&R in the ratings if neither show doesn’t start using their actors of color—PERIOD. It’s such a waste of talent it makes me sad and furious. There are no excuse for this.

Try as I might I’m just not getting into BTG. I keep trying and happy a new show is back on daytime. It’s not groundbreaking as stated. Doesn’t anyone remember Generations ?

I want answers

Good for him! I’ll miss him on GH. I’m sorry the writers couldn’t find something more for him to do on the show. He IS a member of the Ashford family, after all.

True

Congrates on moving on betters for ✌️‼️

I was hoping that he would of connect back with Molly. He was a great actor.

That’s AWESOME!!!

I was hoping a chance to see him with some better storylines on g h. I hated that they always had him whiny. But it was the lines they gave the man.I believe he delivered them the best that he could. Hopefully, I’ll get to catch him in something else.

Did they end his relationship with Molly, which episode was that because I think I missed it when he left town or just moved on. Please respond

Vincent Pastore, best known for his memorable role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos has passed away.

The veteran actor was found dead on August 1st in his home in the Bronx, New York. Pastore was 80-years-old. The cause of death is yet to be determined.

As well as his role on The Sopranos, many soap fans will recall he played multiple smaller roles on the beloved One Life to Live from 1995 and 2004. However, in 2008, he landed the short-term role as Maximus Giambetti on General Hospital.

PASTORE WANTED TO BE ON GENERAL HOSPITAL

Maximus was the mobster father of Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) bodyguards: Max (Derk Cheetwood) and Milo (Drew Cheetwood)

According to Soap Opera Digest, Pastore told Soaps In Depth back in 2009, after appearing in a SOAPnet promotional campaign as a celebrity fan of General Hospital: “‘I’d love to be on the show. So they called up GH’s casting director (Mark Teschner) and Bobby (Robert Guza Jr. ex-head writer, GH) and they wrote me in!”

Pastore was a huge General Hospital fan from way back, who at one point told producers that he would watch the ABC soap opera while working in bars and nightclubs in the 70s and 80s.

Throughout his decades long career, Pastore appeared in films including: Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way and Men of Respect, The Jerky Boys: The Movie and the 1996 HBO TV movie Gotti.

In TV, besides The Sopranos, Pastore’s credits included: Law & Order, The Practice, Son of the Beach, Queens Supreme, Hawaii Five-0, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, plus the miniseries The Last Don II. Most recently, Vincent was a series regular on Gravesend and guest starred on Yellowjackets.

Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee, son-in-law and granddaughter.
