This week, five-time Daytime Emmy winner Jonathan Jackson (Lucky) returns to General Hospital for his whirlwind guest stint, as the story picks up with Luke and Laura at the mercy of their old adversary Frank Smith!

Jackson, who is currently on tour this summer with his band Enation, and will start shooting season four of the primetime ABC series Nashville this month, discussed his brief, but emotional return to the soap that got him his start.

While Jonathan would not give away any story points in his interview with TV Line, he says he was so excited to work one last time with Anthony Geary (Luke), and being able to fit his short arc into his busy summer schedule.

Jonathan commented: “I did what was probably a week’s worth of work in two days. It was a whirlwind. But it was so fun to see everyone. It was really exciting to get to do those scenes with Tony. It was really special for me.”  As to Lucky being in peril, Jackson hinted:  “Yeah. But we were able to find some moments to have some more heartfelt scenes which was something that (I was really) looking forward to. I was excited about that.”

And as for also being reunited with his TV mother Genie Francis (Laura), Jackson didn’t even know she was going to be part of the storyline until just before he arrived to GH: “I hadn’t been following the show, so I didn’t know Genie was going to be there until maybe a week or so before I flew to L.A. I was so excited to see Genie and to get to work with her again.”

So, will you be tuning in this week to see Jonathan, Tony, and Genie together?  Will Lucky save Luke and Laura?  What kind of heartfelt scenes are about to be served up:  Jackson and Geary always made their scenes top notch!

Wish i could feel as excited but with GHs convulted mess im not so LUCKY…lol

GH does its version of Dynastys Moldavian shooting(ok, scaled back version) and Luke and Laura get Lucky(in a small room and with FS goons close with guns) and survive without even breaking a nail or one hair out of place…Bravo GH—you are number1 with cartoony camp!!!

Laura a gun packing Gun Moll ahh-haa! hadda laff ..(so lame lol
Truly campy comedy ..

Anytime I can have a good laugh, that is good thing 🙂

Suoo, your hatred of Laura is baffling to just about everyone.

Aww. Sweet. Everyone loves Genie. I’m really looking forward to these scenes. JJ, Genie and Tony played the quintessential little family back in the day. It’s been a real pleasure watching him grow up.

The first few seconds of the aforementioned threes’ reunion was powerful.
The way Lucky exchanged looks with Laura, then Luke conveyed such an intense emotional punch which was accented by these three actors’ long history.
It really felt like parents were reuniting with their grown son.
The Spencers really are special.
I just wish the writing were up to par but Genie, Tony and JJ are rising above it making it work.

I also was touched by how genuine & emotional those first few
moments were between Lucky, Laura & Luke it felt like days of
yore. I can only hope there’s more to come….

“Everyone loves Genie”……except, of course, for su!!!!!

@Shay..What’s not to Love!

Jonathan is top notch, him and Tony were pure magic together and I cannot wait to see them on screen again! It was cool for Johnathan to appear on GH now since he has so many other irons in the fire. Just goes to show you he is grateful where he came from and how much respect he has for Anthony Geary.

Jonathan is beautiful…love the hair…looks good on him, not on Carlos.
In a round-about-way, I sort of guessed that Lucky was in on this scheme; but, only as a hoax. Frank Smith has had Jake all this time? ….guess so! Smith must have blackmailed Lucky , in that, unless Lucky brought Luke, Laura and Holly to him, then, no Jake….bartering.
I can feel the vibe between Luke and Lucky, Timmm….now, I get it!!!! You are soooo right…I see, I see…LOL.

Come into the light!

Couldn’t agree with you more Timm… Jonathan is a breath of fresh air.
Unexpected twist in the storyline today, involving little Jake..
Could he really be alive???? Where’s Helena, she has to be
party to this.

And thats why people shouldnt write off the Luke, “Goodbye” story as a bust, YET! Give them some time people.

Yeah, Fanny. Shay and I were just discussing that very fact, on the other “Lucky” site. No Cassadines? None? I would have thought Helena’ would have her dream come true, no? The opportunity to obliterate the Spencers!!

Hi, CeeCee & Shay…This is so up her alley, she’s probably
salivating over the eventual face-off with Luke…
A Cassadine/Spencer Grand Finale is just what the DR.
ordered..

@Fanny and CeeCee……Oh, there’s definitely a Cassadine or two to be had in the end mix….but which mad miscreants(s) will they be???? Helena seems a most obvious choice, but what if Nik is a part of this dubious and dastardly doing? Or, perhaps there is yet another “resurrection” of presumed dead family members to be announced???? I’m still waiting for something big, REALLY big! As for your query above, Fanny….”What’s not to love about Laura????” Beats me….you’d have to consult with su on that one, as she seems to be the solitary voice of dissent on the subject of fandom for Luke’s “Angel!” LOL.

@Shay & CeeCee… Definitely several delusional, demented, Cassadine’s
will livin the end game. Nik must be privy to some part of the goings on, it
would explain the about face… I’m also waiting for this Exemplary storyline
to WOW me…and waiting..and waiting…..
Last but certainly not least Laura is…. Lovely, Loyal, Sincere, Kind…. I
guess she’s an acquired taste….

It looks like he’ll also be sharing scenes with Rebecca Herbts, that will be great, it got me thinking though for the the most part the women on this show have been shown the short end of the stick when it comes to respect or recognition, especially genie Francis and Rebecca Herbst. I mentioned both of them because in both their cases their long time screen partners have been rewarded over and over agian, and I found it interesting that genie only has 1emmy to tony 8 and Rebecca only has 1 nomination to Jonathan’s 5 Emmy wins .. Isn’t that interesting ? How come the guys were recognize and rewarded over and over agian yet their equally talented female counterparts have barely anything to show.? Just wondering!!

Good point about the Emmys, Aria! My feeling is that the Emmys are, for the most part, a popularity contest. Talent is only sometimes rewarded. You are correct: the actresses you mention are just as talented as their much-heralded male counterparts.

Mostly because other women from other shows are more deserving. Also, there have not been a lot of strong women on GH. Anna only came to mind.

Sooooooo excited to see Lucky/Tony/Genie. OH! Can’t wait!

I couldn’t wait either, Rose. But I blinked and it appears to be over.
Frank Smith uttered about five words and was shot about 100 times.
What was that?

I was surprised that the next two episodes took us back to Port Charles, but it can’t be over already, can it? I am holding out hope that there is more with Lucky. I feel like his last scene was a tag, so they have to go back. (I HOPE!)

Plus I can see lots of possibilities for Lucky to tie into an exit. So hopefully we just broke away to explore the Lulu/Dante stuff and then we will be back to Tony/Genie/Lucky. Fingers Crossed!!!!!

The exit story has been moving really fast since Laura and Holly and Lucky and what’s his name entered the story cus there was no time left to go into a longer story. The exit story has only 15 more days to go.(that is if it is on every day)

And-
Luke still needs to get back to Tracy, I am really looking forward to the last Tracy and Tony moments , that’s when the heartache will begin 🙁

I found the shootings (particularly Luke shooting Frank Smith multiple times) rather disturbing.

Shot Frank like a dog but I guess Smith pushed his buttons all these years and Luke was pissed!

Goodness…all this whining about the writing….I could open my own winery! If it’s truly such a chore to sit through….move on. What kind of life is it to be so miserable. Little Jake being ‘killed off’ was like 100 Duke Lavery’s in terms of outrage. You should all be so happy. Instead of being so thankful Tony, Genie, & Jonathan are together one last time….you go about the writing….again. If you Dickens…GH ain’t it..sorry! Everyone seems to raving about Brad Bell being the Third Coming….watch that…and Darla’s floating head. No outrage about that. I love GH. I enjoy GH. I watch GH.

Part of the fun of watching soaps is critiquing it. What’s not cool or original or interesting is whining about other posters posts.

Hi, Margie,
You go, Girl…!!!!
Exactly the point for these sites.

Hello Robbyrob !
I think I love you…………. lol

hey CeeCee ,
There is huge difference when people use a sentence or two voice ”dislike/irration” of whatever or whomever..
It is the constant habitual complainers, whiners, suffering from soap burnout that write 5 pages of hate this and hate all of that ranting crap..
that is crazy stuff!

and- just for you 🙂
Sharon is a worse irritation than a bad ass rash <- simply said ah-ha! 🙂
Summer is a whine machine with a squished up face that looks like constipation and nothing's moving ah-ha! <– simply said..
Nieter comment needed paragraphs of ranting 🙂
The double Jacks is stupid story and it makes me laugh, and that is good thing lol

Luv Pratt, I like what he's done with Y&R .. looking good!
I like looking at Joe 😉
ooohhhh!! Dylan is a wimpy boy – I keep recalling SB as strong Stone Cold Jason –
It's like ''what in hell happened to you, Jason!!!'' lol I get a kick outta that ..

Even what I do not care for I have fun with it, fun watching..
like– just how bad can this get before I get a headache LOL
Soaps are not a do or die serious thing with me ..
Y&R, is much better..
General Hospital is my joy !! luvs it !!

Keep your eye on Robbyrob… I'm putting him on my Christmas gift list .

Dear Harry,,
have no doubts, you will always be my #1 banter buddy 🙂
and-
IF I were to make a comment about your love the renaissance gun moll Laura, I will try to remember to give you fair warning 🙂
rave on !!

Thank Goodness for the smile icons.
Otherwise, Su00’s comments might be offensive to some of us.

Yes, it was nice to see the Spencers together. When you add Tony Geary, Genie Francis and Jonathan Jackson with Julie Marie Berman, they really did a great job of casting the original Spencer family. They all looked and felt like a real family. GH needs to replace them somehow on the canvas. As for raising a dead character after 20 years, only to kill him off 3 days later, once again shows the fantastically short-sighted writing. It cheapens any death that happens on screen. Imagine all those gut-wrenching scenes with Tony, Felicia, Bobby and Frisco when little BJ died and Maxie got her heart. At this rate, I’m half expecting BJ’s return. Somehow the little girl had a spare heart!

downtownla, since you live nearby, why don’t you march over to the Prospect studios and give the GH braintrust your feedback in person! I totally agree with you!

GH has brought countless characters back from the dead, including many who are currently on screen. Bringing back Frank Smith was ridiculous (again, with a different actor, and killing off the character in 3 days), similar to a new Jennifer Smith (on for 2 or 3 days).

Most regard the B.J. storyline you mentioned as the creative peak of GH. Indeed, quite moving. Will the viewer ever see such heights again? …

Frank Smith should have been brought back months ago before he was killed off! Lazy and inpatient.

I posted this comment in another thread, but it’s like all these revived characters are an apt metaphor for the show – Ron is trying to raise the dead. Problem is – whether it’s AJ, Duke or Frank Smith, Ron has no idea what to do with them when they’re alive. It’s like he can go for the spectacular moment, but he can’t sustain it.

downtownla: You’re right on point about any “death” on GH – there’s no longer any impact. When a character “disappears” off camera and is declared dead then there is the possibility that they are not dead and can reappear down the line in a believable storyline. GH writers have bad a mockery of our intelligence. Nowadays characters get shot in the heart, flat-line on the operating table, blow up in explosions – are declared dead at the scene – and then they all appear alive and well years later with some crazy revenge plan. I am not a novice soap fan, I’ve been watching since I was a kid and I know we must allow a certain amount of reality-stretching for dramatic purposes, but come on now. And I appreciate your BJ reference – that was a magnificent storyline told beautifully. Now Jake may be alive? It’s times like this that I wish I weren’t a soap fan…

Yes, it’s all about balance. I can go for crazy, wild and fun. I just need to have development and emotional, too. I don’t want to come off as someone living in the past (Youtube makes it far too easy!), but I would like it to guide the future. I want to watch stories that have heart and emotion, while still challenging me. I want to feel for the characters and their struggles. That’s what will bring me back as a full-time viewer.

hmmm
General Hospital is not for everybody..
I suggest you quickly tune out and find a soap that is for you..
Then ya’ll will be happy campers 🙂

I came back to see the Spencers. They did very well on screen. JJ , Genie and even Tony showed up The real Luke not the idiot that had been there. I like Emme so that was fine with me. Julie wanted to leave so get over it ! Oh goodness I even like Nathan Parsons’s Ethan. Good actor and He was fine also . As for Frank S at least they killed him. How original on GH the good guys won and the bad guys lost ??? The two young Actors came back to a show that gave them a start, good for them.I want Genie to stay .She does deserve as much as Tony. Who would have even rooted for the rapist if it wasn’t for Laura.Yopu know me, I never have anything nice to say about the show any more but except for the Dante garbage I enjoyed it. Had to FF a LOT between the Spencer scenes.

I’m very happy to see Lucky, Eathan and Laura back on the show. I’m puzzled as to how little Jake could be alive. If he is alive whose kidney did Josscelyn get? The only Jake in the story is Jake Doe. Could this be the Jake Frank Smith was referring to?

Tony Geary just lights up when he is in scenes with Jonathan Jackson.
It’s like watching poetry come to life.
Those two are just magic together.

It’s been such a gift watching them through the years because that history enriches and enhances their performances. I can remember watching them and thinking how they shared something really special.
Just two genuine and gifted actors feeding and learning off one another.

Agreed, 100%. Those two must have so much respect for each other. Their scenes feel completely honest, always. Like these two actors really love each other. It’s always incredible work.

I always got teary eyed when Luke called Lucky “Cowboy”.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
