Tamara Braun Reprises Her Daytime Emmy Winning Role As Ava Vitali On Days of our Lives!

No way … WAY! The casting announcements from NBC’s Days of our Lives keep a-coming. and this time via TV Insider, word is that that Daytime Emmy winner, Tamara Braun is back as the oh-so-dangerous Ava Vitali!
Braun has been shooting episode of DAYS since June 17th. and will hit the airwaves on December 9th which adds even more legs to the already stunning 50th anniversary line-up longtime fans of the series are set to see beginning this fall.
Previously, Ava was one-whacked out chick! This mob princess was responsible for a few major ditties such as: ordering the sabotage of John Black’s (Drake Hogestyn) plane that killed among others the beloved Shawn Brady Sr. (Frank Parker)! Ava also kidnapped Hope (Kristian Alfonso), drugged Patch (Stephen Nichols), and let’s not forget held hostage: Bo (Peter Reckell), Hope, Patch, and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) … these are just some of her crimes!
Tamara took home the gold at the 2009 Daytime Emmys for her portrayal of notorious Vitali in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category. And of course, General Hospital viewers know her as the second Carly!
What do you think of the news of Tamara Braun being back on Days of our Lives? Will she be exacting revenge on a whole host of Salemites? Comment below!
Your gain Days. This girl is fabulous! I wish she were still Carly!
Maybe Ava and Justin’s Elsa are one-in-the-same! Tamera and Wally could be explosive as Ava and Justin!!!!!
Wally, another GH fave. Days is rebuilding!
Love this idea!
Oooo good idea!!!!! That would work!! 🙂
it really is a great idea @4
Wally Kurth has been knocking it out of the park !
LOL his scenes with Victor and Kate… momentous
the “suspense” is building
wow it’s exciting
Can’t wait! Tamara is awesome
Hope this means the end of the Will-Sonny-Paul gay storyline. If it is indeed gone, may it never, ever be heard from again!
Sonny is already gone from Salem. They ought to send Will and Arianna to live with Sami and her other kids! That would be a nice ending. Paul can go back to Japan and take Derek with him. And they will never be heard from again except for cards and greetings sent at Christmas time.
I wouldn’t mind Will staying if they got a new actor and story and personality for him.
Paul is not from Japan.
Paul is American.
Furthermore, I hope he stays. Also, what Mo said.
Paul is from San Francisco. Wouldn’t mind him returning, but he is going to work for Mad World or is it Countess W? Don’t know why they want him as a spokesperson. I wouldn’t think he’d be too popular as he’s not in the major leagues anymore.
The gay storyline has been the most successful storyline of recent years, with OriginalWilSon being front & center every single time DAYS hit multi-year ratings highs in 2013 and into 2014, and even under very difficult circumstances this year, the best weeks and days in the ratings were the one that had Sonny & Paul front and center. DAYS is going to lose hundreds of thousands of viewers without this fanbase, but Higfith don’t care. They’ll be sooo surprised what will happen with the ratings after they pissed off all the fanbases that were part of the winning mix 2013-14. Higfith’s outdated vision may have worked in the 80s and 90s, but not in 2015.
Say it again, Megan. Good post.
Who is Higfith?
I love the WilSon story and am sad with how it has played out recently. I miss the original Will. And Sonny is a favorite character of mine. Perhaps the plot can be picked up again further down the line.
I too would like to see the characters of Sonny and Will live on and move on with a new storyline – I know the actor who plays Sonny is departing, but does that mean the character is leaving as well?
This has to be one of the stupidest comments EVER.
DAYS viewership is up ONLY BECAUSE of the WilSon/PaulSon storyline.
DAYS started winning EMMYS again after going close to three decades without winning ONLY BECAUSE of the WilSon/PaulSon storyline.
There is SO MUCH OTHER fast-forwardable FILLER on this show EXCEPT FOR the WilSon/PaulSon storyline.
IF Higfilth does actually eliminate this storyline, it’s ONLY A MATTER OF TIME before TONS of viewers jump ship and DAYS goes down the drain.
WilSon/PaulSon is what is happening in the world NOW. Most of the other time-wasting stories could have played on NBC Daytime in the 80’s. YAWN.
And PS:
Tamara Braun was HORRIBLE the last time she was on as Taylor, and not even much better when she was Ava. Her storyline will only be yet another epic fail like Serena’s. (And look what an elephant of a failure THAT was!)
I wish she was able to come back as Carly on G.H Good for her though
Bite your tongue…love Laura Wright as Carly! Didn’t Braun also play Nicole’s sister…I actually liked the role when she played her…this will be interesting…I think DAYS really IS going to be great this fall.
T Braun is by FAR my FAVORITE Carly. Glad to have her back at Days 🙂
Ditto, would love to have her back as Carly because I hate Laura Wright who isn’t playing Carly, she’s playing Cassie Winslow playing Carly. But the thought of her coming back as Ava….stunning and sign me up. I’m only sad we have to wait so long.
As long as Ava doesnt return with black hair, talks with a Brooklyn accent, and calls herself Ava’s twin Denise, i’ll sigh with relief…lol
LOL
your provide a lot of fun…. respite… along with all posts
course i couldn’t help but think… it’s all about sexy Morgan
Could be interesting. Wasn’t she in love with Patch?
The early history of Ava Vitali was shown only in flashbacks as she told the story of her past with Steve to other characters on the show. Ava was the daughter of mob boss, Martino Vitali. She was raised spoiled, sheltered, and in the “family business.” Ava met Steve (whom she called “Patch”) when Martino hired Patch to do some jobs for the family. (Patch had escaped from the DiMera compound, although all memories of his life with Kayla had been erased.) Ava and Patch fell in love. For two years they dated and were lovers. Eventually, Patch and Ava decided to marry. But, Patch was abducted by the DiMeras and left Ava at the altar. Ava was heartbroken. Later, Ava was diagnosed with brief psychotic disorder after Steve left, and her father put her on medication and did not allow her to leave the family grounds.
Ava appeared on screen in February 2008 in Ireland. Ava was desperate to get Steve back, so she ordered the sabotage of the plane that carried Steve and other members of the Brady family. She was hoping that the plane would be delayed. Instead, the plane had problems mid-flight. The plane crashed and three people, including grandpa Shawn Brady, were killed. Ava followed Steve back to Salem. While mourning Shawn’s death, Hope hugged Steve. Ava saw them and mistook Hope for Steve’s wife. Ava kidnapped Hope and held her prisoner at the Vitali compound. Steve, Bo, and Kayla followed in pursuit of Hope, and they were held captive, as well. Ava’s reign of terror continued as she did many things to physically and emotionally harm her prisoners. Finally, Roman and Abe rescued them and arrested Ava.
While being held prisoner, Kayla had a talk with Ava about her doctor’s appointments. Ava told her that the doctor her father hired prescribed pills for her to take. Kayla stole the pills and had them analyzed. The tests showed that the pills prescribed for Kayla were anti-seizure medication, which caused mood swings and manic episodes-a toxic combination for a woman suffering from brief psychotic disorder. Ava went through a painful detox and emerged as a much healthier person.
Ava confronted her father about the pills in the middle of the Brady Pub, surrounded by Bo, Angelo, and other Vitali goons. He denied doing anything wrong and, unfortunately, Ava’s doctor had mysteriously died and couldn’t comment on the situation. Ava also confronted her father with her mother’s death. Ava confessed that she overheard a conversation between Martino and one of his men where Martino confessed that he had Ava’s mom killed. When Ava tried to attack Martino, he pulled a gun on her, but Bo shot first. Martino died instantly.
With no more Steve and no more “daddy,” Ava tried to move on with her life. She hired E.J. DiMera to be her lawyer when she faced charges for tampering with the plane from Ireland. She also started a friendship with Nicole Walker and the two began patrolling the town for martinis and men. Ava met and took a liking to John Black DiMera, who was separated (though not legally) from Marlena. Ava convinced John to move forward with his new lifestyle as head of the DiMera empire. However, when E.J. told Ava that it did not look good for her to beat the charges since one of her cousins agreed to testify against her, Ava jumped bail and left John and Salem behind. It is believed that she was headed for her family’s private compound in Tuscany.
Now
I’ll be watching! !
DAYS is going to be great this fall
“…Ava was one-whacked out chick! ”
LOL
wow look at all the interaction with the heavy weights…..
I forgot that she may have had a hand in grandpa Shawn’ death ( I loved him )
wow … that alone is replete with a lot of drama to unfold
heavy weights are coming
I must have stepped away from DAYS during the Ava days, though I vaguely recall her thing for Steve. Anyways, super pleased that Tamara is returning to daytime and, back to DAYS. DAYS is my favorite by default, and come this fall, I trust it will be my favorite soap completely. Tamara is brilliant, loved her as Carly #2 on GH.
Welcome back to DAYS, Tamara, and now we have another Ava.
(which is my nieces name).
I and everyone I know is going to STOP WATCHING in late August, since we’re not interested in all those vets and “returning actors” from Dena’s last reign of terror on Days that almost killed this show. This person doesn’t seem to care at all what fans have been watching for since she was fired last time and what gave Days the best ratings in many years (2013 and into 2014). She and Griffith are probably getting double the budget that Tomsell ever had, but they’re throwing it away for people no one under 50 cares. As soon as they write Sonny off the show and destroy the PaulSon/WilSon storyline, I AM DONE with this show!!!!
I’m under 50 and care about all the returns.
I’m also a fan of Will, Sonny and Paul. It was Freddie Smith’s decision to leave DAYS, not the writers. There are reports of Freddie possibly recurring and who knows about Guy Wilson? He may be recast. Christopher Sean is still taping, so that tells me that DAYS hasn’t forgotten anything.
Dena Higley has come back refreshed! She and Josh Griffith submitted storyline ideas that made them the best candidates for rehiring/hiring over several other writers who wanted the job.
You should be happy about the returns because it’s proof that someone can leave and come back. Maybe Freddie can come back or even Chandler!!!!!
Lmao, an actor leaving never was a reason for axing characters and a storyline that won 4 Emmys in 3 years, with tens of thousands of fans rewatching every single scene on YouTube, tens of thousands of fans in Facebook groups/pages etc. etc.
That’s just a lame excuse that was very convenient for Dena & Josh. Someone should finally do an interview with Christopher Whitesell & Gary Tomlin. I bet they would NEVER have sidelined these three characters, let alone now that the show is taping the 50th anniversary. I am 100% sure they would have done everything to keep Freddie on the show or they would have done a recast as fast as possible!!
Well, I’m under 30 and I share your feelings. I just do not think Guy’s representation of Will endears him to us.
I am anticipating ” who is Abby’s baby daddy”…….which brings me to another little pet peeve of mine. That is; why do women on soaps check their calendar to see when their next period is? I have, as most women, a built-in calendar….a woman just knows!!!!
MeganLA,
With all due respect…..
I would like to point out that at some point, in your life…if you are truly lucky, you too will be OVER 50….IF you are lucky that is. Therefore here’s a bit of advice for you, you may want to dial it down a notch…. those Over 50 are just as relevant as those UNDER 50 …
While I have not yet crossed that bridge, our mothers and grandmothers watched that show from the VERY beginning…so therefore I am very happy about the fact that the writers are bringing back many characters as a nod to the history of the show.
Who knows what the future holds, but it is these central characters that helped this show survive for decades… you may want to give that some thought.
Well, there’s NOTHING in the ratings this decade that supports your and Higfith’s assumption that an excessive number of vets or any vets at all are the “ratings draw” that make this show survive nowadays. The multi-year ratings highs in 2013 and into 2014 didn’t have any of the now returning vets on, while Dena’s ratings lows in 2011 had most of them on the show. I guess many people will be surprised what happens to the ratings when a big part of the people that have been watching the last couple of years will stop in late August, because their faves are all gone.
With all due respect, Elite, you are missing the point Megan LA is making.
I truly get my gander up when older fans feel this age-persecution…it is what it is….LIFE. No one is trying to dismiss you…but give youth a chance. We need not be reminded that we will all age, “if we’re lucky”. We are living in Lalaland nor are we stupid.
It is a rotating industry…I like seeing vets with whom I am familiar, but the doors need to be wide open to usher in new artists. The young viewer demands that. We cannot be stuck with the same older and oldest cast forever…the younger viewer is not interested. I believe that is Megan’s point.
LMAO!
The former writers don’t deserve an interview consisting of questions regarding the validity of Will, Sonny and Paul.
They should be asked why they nearly destroyed the show! Yes, the show…a soap consisting of many characters and storylines, not just a few characters and a storyline.
There has to be good writing across all characters and storylines. You, and others may be happy with how things were, but the masses watch for several characters and storylines at the same time.
BTW, 2013 and 2014 were good years for DAYS because the writing was good for all, but the writers became burned out and they were shown the door.
Soaps are a tapestry of several characters and storylines that must work to succeed.
You’re acting as if Will, Sonny and Paul is everything good and all the others are everything bad. Your attitude could turn lovers into haters.
Hell I don’t plan on watching the show until AFTER August when the new writers’ stories start. And I’m looking forward to the vets returning.
The new storylines start in mid-August and the first return and new appearance (Steve and Joey) are in late August.
Sorry but who is Joey?
LOL Blake who is Joey? That is question a lot of viewers might ask– Joey is one of those invisible soap children who exists but is never seen in childhood, but will show up this summer SORAS’ed as a teen– as someone has probably already told you Joey is Kayla’s and Steve’s son.
Joey is Steve and Kayla’s son.
Thank you 4ever Days!
I’m under 50 as well and I would like to see more Julie and Doug and some of the other returnees. Granted, you have to have some new characters for the show to survive. I am interested in seeing what the show is in September because it does need improving.
And frankly, while I like Paige and Eve and JJ, I don’t need a college story with all the parties and groupies. That doesn’t interest me.
I understand, but every summer the soaps concentrate on the youthful oriented storylines to attract teen and younger viewers. I do like JJ and Paige though, and wish their storyline now had someplace to go.
I support the Will and Sonny storyline, but I sort of wish they would get on with it already – if Sonny moves on to Paul, which I technically and possibly see happening, then Will may move on to LA – and for all I know Sonny and Paul could wind up “seeking a new start” together out in San Francisco.
I am one of the older viewers by the way, meaning of the ’50” crowd, but that doesn’t mean I necessarily find all the older characters thrilling (except for Victor, Jon Aniston can do no wrong in my book) – so it’s not “just” about what age you are. I was young once and can understand what JJ is going through.
Well I am over 50 but I totally understand why you’re upset. I have been watching soaps a very long time and I still get royally ticked off whenever new writers come in and mess with characters and stories that I really love — the only difference I see between us, is as pissed as I get, I usually stay with the show, because while the show is on the air there is always hope the new direction will change again– characters that I liked could come back, actors that I loved could return– but if the show goes off the air then that’s it– all that will be left is memories.
So I hope you consider staying. Also if the show stays on the air long enough, there could be a time when another writer will bring back WilSon and imagine how happy you’ll be to see them again– as happy as many long time viewers are now that their beloved characters are returning in the fall, characters that meant as much to them as WilSon does to you.
I know that is little comfort right now, but if every soap fan stopped watching when a soap did something they didn’t like or change something they didn’t want to changed there wouldn’t be any soaps on the air at all. I keep watching for the greater good, I have lost soaps I loved to cancellation, I know what it is like to lose characters I loved not just for a season but forever. While Days is on the air there is always hope for WilSon to return, if it gets cancelled that’s it- they are gone for for good– just something to ponder before you and friends quit watching altogether.
Fabo, she was great in the role of Ava , didn’t like her as Carly on Gh but she was fantastic on Days
Tamara’s short-term portrayal of Ava was fantastic, and I only hope her return is for a long-term stint. Her casting as Taylor was so wrong.
I agree with you Scott, I hope Tamara signed a contract. She is a wonderful actress.
I must have stepped away from DAYS for the Taylor character, too.
And, I so love Tamara, and hope she’s got at least a 6 month to 1 year contract. She’s a brilliant actress.
i’m with you… I must have stepped away for a while
at the very least…. “wouldn’t it be nice if we were to watch Nicole… not talking to herself”
she’s been forever pandering to Eric, Brady, and Daniel
she has no family to speak of
“this is going to be NICE” two women, being friends ?!?!
well… I certainly hope this…. a recharged invigorated Ari Zucker’ Nicole
“finally”
I like @4ever… idea that Tamara Braun “could” ??? very well be the one and the same… Elsa… whom Justin has been having an affair
Nice !
or she could be a new love interest for Rafe’alicious
anyway…. the rejuvenated , should be celebrated… best serial… is back with a vengeance… in little over 1 month to go
Nicole gets a BFF – imagine that
Omg omg omg omg yeahhhhhhh Omgggg my tears in my eyes!! She is back!!!!!!
Ok, now that i have catch my breath from screaming “thank you Jesus” lol i can say a litle about where i would like the role of Ava to go… First thing: stay away from Dr im in evryone’s buisness cause like dude im “the man”!! ugh! Please Ava don’t go there….Now Ava and Eric on the orher hand…Wow!! They could be interesting! Plus Ava and Nicole as rivals would be better than as friends….My second and third choices are Chad and Lucas. Tamara Braun is a gift from the soap heavens for Days, hope they really know it.
This is great news. I knew Tamara as Carly on GH and she was fantastic. She really made that character her own. I can’t wait to see her again.
Tamara Braun is awesome! I loved her on GH and she was great as Ava, not so much as Taylor (but then again, that character and story was a disaster from the get-go). It should be really interesting to have her back. I’m very happy that DAYS is rebuilding and bringing back such talented actors and wonderful characters.
In terms of more returns, it would be great to have Matt Ashford back as Jack, and I don’t care how much history rewriting needs to happen to resurrect him, because he shouldn’t have died. Rachel Melvin as Chelsea would also be a very welcomed return, as well as Julie Pinson as Billie, Christie Clark as Carrie and Austin Peck as Austin.
Wow great news! It’s great to see Ken Corday and his team want the show to succeed, even after the anniversary.
I LOVE TAMARA! She will always be Carly to me even though I love Laura Wright to bits!
