Josh Kelly Joins the Cast of General Hospital
In another casting coup, ABC’s General Hospital is bringing Josh Kelly (Ex-Cutter Wentworth, One Life to Live) to Port Charles.
According to Deadline, who broke the casting news, Kelly will join the ABC daytime drama series later this month as a series regular in a role that is said to impact the lives of Sam (Kelly Monaco), Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), and Britt (Kelly Thiebaud), but being kept secret for now.
Since leaving OLTL, Kelly has appeared in numerous primetime series, including Lifetime’s UnReal, as well as Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19, What/If, Army Wives, Circle of Eight and Hallmark’s Christmas Bells are Ringing, plus in the motion picture franchise of The Transformers.

Could it be possible that Kelly is a recast Jason Morgan, if the character will have impact on Sam, Dante, and Britt as the casting news teases, or someone else from their past? Could he be Llanview’s Cutter Wentworth come to Port Charles?
So, what do you think of Josh coming to GH? Who do you think he will play … a new character, a recast? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
Jason please!
Sources have already revealed he is portraying a new character, likely to due with a Dante storyline, heading into June.
The best news !!! he was good on OLTL.
I am very excited for his arrival on GH !
ITA
He’s 10 years too young to play a recast Jason. Based on the Billy Miller experience, they won’t do try to hay day Jason needed plastic surgery. Besides, everyone knows that if/when Jason comes back, it would be a Carly story (like the other half currently playing out).
He’s probably an entirely new character, but if they reach down in GH history…
Josh looks like he could be Kin Shriner’s son. Perhaps, a resurrected Logan?
I doubt he’s a recast Lucky or Ethan.
Or, he brings Cutter over with the reveal that Alex Olanov and Olivia Jerome are the same woman?
Steve, I meant to reply sooner. Glad you mentioned Logan. I’m not sure I remember all of Scottie’s offspring. I remember Karen, Serena, Logan, and Franco. Am I forgetting anyone?!?!
Well, the casting folks certainly have a type: bland Michael; bland Drew; bland Jason; bland Dex; bland Brando; bland Jax..etc. I didn’t like Mr. Kelly on OLTL so I’m not happy about this. But maybe the character will be interesting. Tee-Hee.
Wow bland? I get it but what are you looking for
He’s not going to be Jason. I think he’s going to be part of the Dante/Sam storyline kicking up in June, and be Britt’s new love interest.
That would be interesting if he is Britt’s love interest
Yes, that would be awesome. She needs a man!!
I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t a second Drew Cain. He certainly will replace that Jason wannabe Sonny just hired. For real.
Yeah I don’t see someone else being as good or as loyal to Sunny as Jason was
Whoa. He has charisma for sure, and was entertaining on OLTL. (Could he bring Gina Tognoni with him to GH?) Interesting if they dare to recast Jason already. I still maintain the show is fine without Jason. But I freely admit I may be in the minority on that opinion.
Yoi most definitely are in the minrity. Love Jason any i miss him so much. I feel the show is not the same without him.
I agree. I didn’t want a recast of Jason at first but I really miss the character. So if Steve’s not coming back I think Josh K would be a good one.
I agree I love Jason.and I use to watch (oltl) But I don’t remember the him on the show
Recast Heather Webber, with Gina Tognoni She would be terrific in the role. Gina is a wonderful actress.
Emma, yes Gina is wonderful but to hire her they’d need to let go of possibly two or three others, like Esme, Curtis’ dad, Aunt Stella, T.J., Drew. Wait, let’s think about this….
You read my mind. Time to end the air time for these useless characters.
What’s wrong with Drew now? I admit i loved Billy miller but Cameron is doing a good job.
Lialla, I’m really liking Drew and glad he’s not trying to be a Jason sub for Carly.
Yes, I’ll always miss Billy, but it’s nice to have a genuinely nice, decent guy like Drew on the show, even though the character is basically unnecessary. And how about Sonny’s horrific, joy-destroying, life-sucking stepson Michael: “I’m gonna destroy Sonny and leave him with nothin’.” I had a good chuckle over that one! In Sonny’s own words, “Bring it on, little man.”
Drew is an affable guy but yes, useless. He reminds me of a motivational speaker. I fully expect him to arrange a walk though fire exercise on the Port Charles Beach.
Right and what’s wrong with TJ
Gina as Heather? That’s quite a de-SORAS concept as Gina is younger than both Roger Howarth and Scott Reeves (who both played Heather’s sons). She’s not coming anytime soon, but Gina would be a good Sarah Webber.
I think you may mean Sarah Webber – Elizabeth’s sister. And yes, I would LOVE to see Gina back on the soap canvas, especially since Y and R totally messed up.
She’s to young to play Heather.
They couldn’t possibly be stupid enough to attempt another failed Jason recast, so let’s dismiss that ridiculous idea right off the top.
Another failed Lucky Spencer recast would be just as dumb, but slightly more probable at least. First Lucky recast was horrible. Greg Vaughn….. he had a good character, but that character never really seemed like Lucky, so…. mixed results there. JJ doesn’t seem to want to come back, unfortunately, but the character is seriously needed, as are the rest of the Spencer family.
The only thing dumber than a poor recast would be ANY appearance of an OLTL character on GH. That was a bad move 10 years ago. It would be even worse now. Let it go, Frank…….
Let’s throw in a bizzare prediction out of left field, and say he’s James Nathan West(bourne) Faison, back from the dead. Since he’s one of the few Port Charles residents who did NOT go to Hell, I don’t have any inside information on whether or not he’s still dead!
Dylan McAvoy
Portrayed by Steve Burton
Duration 2013–2017
First appearance January 29, 2013
Last appearance January 27, 2017
Steve walked out of GH-
I didn’t miss Jason for those 4 years.
I’m not missing him now
If Jason is recast- well done.
What GH/ABC did to Billy Miller
because Steve wanting back in is
unforgivable.
Just like Jonathan Jackson and Greg Vaughn
I felt bad for Greg when that happened, though as I said, the character he played on GH never really seemed like Lucky Spencer to me.
Practically the next day, I started posting on all the soap boards that existed at the time that he would be the perfect Eric Brady recast for Days. It took them a little while to make it happen, but they listened to the Devil, for once.
He’s come & gone from Salem a few times since then, but has definitely become the definitive Eric in the process. Just as JJ is the definitive Lucky, and Steve will always be the ONLY true Jason.
Yessssss!!!!
They did wrong for Billy by not writing for the Drew character after creating him. To add insult to injury, the only attempt they had at playing out even the smallest pieces of Drew’s backstory were played out by a brain-mapped Frodd, which was just wrong in 666 different ways.
I do wish he had returned as Drew… and not the guy from AMC (a show that never aired in Hell)
Jason was gone since 2012 not 2013. It was 5 years
Sue Jason disappeared in 2012 and came back in 2017 it was 5 years not 4.
Hi–
Steve First appearance on Y$R January 29, 2013
but- you are correct he was gone from GH in 2012–
Now, that Steve is gone that opens up for
new or returning characters because—
Steve was being paid Big $$$$ now
that money can go to others 🙂
In reality, Steve Burton should have been cast as Drew Cain. That would have provided more complex storytelling than retconning Billy Miller’s casting. Carly, Kim, Sam & Sonny, not to mention their children, seeing the face of Jason every single day, but he’s NOT Jason. And now Jason has this new face and attitude? The story told itself, but everyone wanted to save to Burton’s rehiring.
^^^ “…poor recast would be ANY appearance of an OLTL character on GH. That was a bad move 10 years ago. It would be even worse now. Let it go, Frank…… ” I DON”T CARE WHAT any one says…it’s the truth, watch Roger Howarth and Michael Easton after all these years.. at least with Josh Kelly… we have tantalize up front beating.. he’s always had solid acting and the balls to turn
I DO AGREE … bring back from the dead.. cause Satan aid it… Nathan should .. LIVE… Ryan Paevey
END this dream
Josh Kelly definitely looks like he could be Nathan though I don’t see how that impacts the Sam and Dante storyline unless it’s another unknown identity situation of amnesia, but would work for Britt, Nina, Leisl, and of course Maxie. I’m not liking Maxie and Austin together, and Roger doesn’t seem to like his newest character portrayal either. I really enjoyed Roger as Paul Ryan on As the World Turns. He’s being wasted at GH. Are they bringing him back to Elizabeth? The romantic pairings of the Gen X cast members who now all have children who are teens/young adults aren’t going very well…
Jason I hope.
Whatever role he’s going to play he’ll be excellent at it. Looking forward to seeing him on GH!
I think I’ll like whomever he plays. WOuld love him as a love interest for Britt. I’ve liked him for years on various shows, i.e Greys Anatomy and Station 19. Also love the fact that he’s been married for years to one of my favorite actresses, Katherine Heigl. Good luck Josh. Gosh, when I first saw his photo, he reminded me of Eric Martsolf, the eyes maybe.
That’s a different Josh Kelly, Violet (and I think he may spell his last name , with a second ). This one was dating Bethany Joie Lenz (one of the Michelles on Guiding Light in the late 90s/early 2000s) last I read or heard anything.
Agree with you Katherine Heigl; I have always liked her.
Michael(not Fairman)
Thanks so much for straightening me out. I didn’t realize there were two. I guess it was the Josh Kelley that I saw on the TV shows mentioned.
You have your Josh Kelly’s confused. Josh Kelly the singer is married to Katherine Heigle. Josh Kelly the actor and new GH cast member is single.
I read in a spoiler that Cameron Mathison had a bout with cancer and only agreed to portray Drew temporarily. He may be the “new” Drew. He was really good on OLTL, so this will be interesting.
He won’t be Drew. He is a new character; Cameron Mathison’s cancer battle has come and past several years ago.
We will just have to see. Regarding recasts, I’d rather have new actors in the roles rather then deaths to be corrected later or holes in stories because someone isn’t there. Yes, we have favorites but in continuing daytime drama, characters too considerations. I find stores involving Laura, for example, without her children having presence.
that’s why i’m truly accepting of Martin and laura.. they have such an easy rapport… tickled… beaming.. and just glad that laura doesn’t have to end her scenes in a “confused” state.. this is all right up Michael E. Knight alley… sister laura, and tantalize with Lucy.. buddy down with Valentine… wink wink
I forgot his OLTL character. Who was he involved with ?was he a bad guy or nice guy? I watched oLTL till it went off ABC never found it online .
“He’s so MORE than striking ” he’s the bee’s knees’ HOW… i watched some of OLTL during it’s ending days… watching Cutter and … what’s her name… my days of our lives’ AND went on to OLTL and STARRED… Absolutely. Farah Fath as “Mims” who could MISS ??? extravaganza
I hope he screened with Britta’ Kelly Thiebaud… she knows she’s leading… i better believe it.. she does… she’s radiant…. she beams i beam we all beam… shellacked bowled over.. if this is heading for Love… Cutter’ going to beam right in” full fledged take us all…
Josh Kelly… WOW !!!!!! this happened… unlike no other
Patrick
I certainly agree with your assessment of Brett. She’s come along way from being the Britch. I wished she had slapped that punk Spencer today for speaking to her that way. She’s always there for him.
He reminds, ME , of a dreamy Jax… NO ? oh he acts
this spin will catapult
Hope he turns out great for GH!!
I think he will be a recast of Jason
He. Is. Not. Going. To. Be. Jason.
Will be very happy to see Josh again, now we need Kim Zimmer to come on as Austin’s mother
I think he’d make a great Jason.
He make a great Jason!
He would be a great Jason. Bleep Bloop Beeeeeeeeeeep
he’s hot, him and new guy dexter could be brothers?
Bring him back as Cutter. I want OLTL characters to pop back up on GH. I miss Roger Howarth as Todd and Michael Easton as John McBain.
jason
He. Is. Not. Jason.
Bring Jason back
Would rather have old Jason back
He isn’t going to be Jason, and Steve Burton is not coming back.
Hopefully Jason Morgan
Hopefully Kelly will be Jason Morgan.
Hopefully Jason Morgan
He is NOT going to be Jason. It’s already been confirmed he won’t be Jason.
At first I thought maybe a Jax. Joslin could use daddy in the picture with the whole drama there.
But that has nothing to do with the 3 named that his character affects.
He is definitely better eye candy than the current dex if he’s going to play sonny’s next grunt. What a lame casting.
No one can truly fill Jason’s shoe. Just get JASON back already! Big mistake letting him go
He was fired on his own decision. He’s not getting re-hired. Move on.
I’m Sure They Aren’t RECASTING JASON
MORGAN, If STEVE BURTON’s Not Coming Back, Please Don’t Recast Him.
Probably Jason what happened to Steve Burton gh you screwed up
Bring Josh Kelly as Cutter Wentworth to Port Charles. He is too young and cannot be as stone-faced as Jason. The lovely Britt needs an intimate relationship and pronto! Like the Sam and Dante pairing. Go GH!
I like him as Jason recast or as someone else. For Kelly he will do..though I miss Jasam though!!!
The one character not mentioned, but Josh’s style would be ideal for is Dillon. He can pull off the quirkiness that Scott Clifton brought to the role. It would undo the de-SORASing that happened with Robert Palmer Watkins.
Of course this won’t happen since the Qs are not part of the characters he is scheduled to interact with.
Worst entrance ever.
And anybody who really parachuted out of the sky into that tiny shallow little pool at the Metro Court probably would die instantly. There ain’t no “deep end”. in that pool
ah Satan… miracles do happen !
Don’t worry about the pool, Satan. This character doesn’t appear to have any depth anyway.
Yeah, I hear ya. Between the newbies, the ridiculous amount of temp-hires, and the oversaturation of all things Nina, I think Frank Valentini is in some sort of a sick bet with his old pal ReRon as to see who can get their show cancelled faster.
ReRon, for his part, is losing legacy characters on Days faster than you can shake a demon’s tail…. most recently one through a brutal murder… with the most two likely suspects being idiotic characters who should have both been long gone by now.
Who wins the bet?? Damned sure ain’t the fans of either show.
I want to the previous Jason to come back to GH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE, someone tell me what is going on with Spinelli. Why is he paying a wad of cash to that woman that hired that dufas.

Rosie O’Donnell Says She Will Return to ‘The View’ During its Season 30

Rosie O’Donnell revealed that she plans to head back to a seat at the table of ABC’s morning talk show The View.
The announcement came during Monday’s episode of The Tangle Podcast where she shared she will participate in “in whatever way they want” her or “just as a guest” for its upcoming 30th season.
The View’s season 30 will kick-off this fall in September. O’Donnell explained, “They’re bringing back all the hosts, I think. And, you know, I’m pretty proud of that show, what it’s become and how it really speaks to the people and to politics.”

Photo: ABC
ROSIE ON HER PREVIOUS GO-ROUNDS ON THE VIEW
As fans of The View know, O’Donnell famously had two different one-year stints on the talk show in 2007 and again in 2014- 2015. She often feuded with then co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck.
However, during her discussion with host, Kyle Ridley on The Tangle Podcast, O’Donnell also noted she often had tense moments with longtime moderator and anchor, Whoopi Goldberg.
O’Donnell also expressed, “Many, many people got the short end of the stick there. It was, you know, it was a factory where people were being churned in and out and their tenuous security, nobody got to be calm. It also was a show at the time that was run by a man. A show created by a woman, for women, about women, and the man was deciding what we should talk about. And that didn’t sit right with me, you know.”
Back in 2023, Brooke Shields had asked Rosie on her podcast, Now What? with Brooke Shields, about how she felt on her two stints at The View and all the controversy that surrounded it. Rosie at that time, stated, “I know this, it’s not the best use of my talent to get in a show where I have to argue and defend basic principles of humanity and kindness. It was not something I’d ever do again.”
You can check out the clip with Rosie and Kyle Ridley discussing her return to The View in some form for its upcoming 30th season below.
Then weigh-in: Would you be excited to see Rosie, even for a one-day or a week guest stint on the upcoming celebratory season of The View, or not so much? Let us know via the comment section.

Television Academy and NATAS Open Reunification Talks After Split Almost 50 Years Ago

In what could prove to be a massive shake-up ahead, both the TV Academy (ATAS), who presides over the Primetime Emmys, and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), who preside over the Daytime Emmys, are in exploratory reunification discussions to merge the two organizations into one.
Both sides received an overwhelming vote and support from their boards to evaluate what a unified Academy could look like. However there is no formal calendar at this juncture for the discussions. In addition, because of the ongoing unification talks that should occur, the TV Academy board has voted to extend all current sitting Governors’ terms by one year so they can see the process through.
Boards at both organizations voted overwhelmingly to evaluate what a unified Academy could make possible: a strong vision for the Academy’s future, more effective thought leadership for the industry, broader service and support for members coast-to-coast, and new momentum and opportunities across the full complement of national Emmy competitions.

Photos: ATAS/NATAS
AFTER NEARLY 50 YEARS, CAN THE EMMYS BE UNDER ONE BANNER?
In a joint statement, ATAS and NATAS shared, “Television remains the most powerful medium we have to shape culture and prompt conversations that define us—no matter the size of the screen, With the business of television undergoing such a monumental transformation, this is the right moment to explore a reunification of our Academies, providing our members and our industry with a bolder voice advocating for them and a stronger partner to navigate the future with them.”
If the reunification talks continue, this would be the first time since the two Emmy organizations split back on June 30, 1977 that they have tried to come together, all of this after almost three decades of often uneasy and strained tension between the two.
The most recent joint change came in 2022 when a move of the game show categories went from NATAS to ATAS’ and now are in the Primetime Emmys.
Deadline notes that a unification of the two television academies who overall preside over nighttime and daytime programming would be similar how SAG and AFTRA used to represent performers from completely different dayparts of work.
Could the Daytime Emmys finally see some love in primetime and have their major categories televised as part of the annual kudofest every September? Stay tuned.
Meanwhile, the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will take place live on Monday, September 14th starting at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT and air on NBC and stream on Peacock emanating from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. While, the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards will take place on Friday, October 30, time to be announced, live from the Hollywood Palladium and will be streamed on watchtheemmys.tv
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) is a service organization dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and the promotion of creative leadership for artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry. It recognizes excellence in television with the coveted Emmy Awards for News & Documentary, Sports, Daytime and Children’s & Family programming, as well as achievements in television Technology & Engineering.
The Television Academy (ATAS) strives to shape and advance the dynamic television landscape; cultivate a diverse, inclusive and accessible professional community; and advocate for the television industry while capturing the spirit of a new generation of content creators and industry professionals. Through innovative programs, publications and events, the Academy and its Foundation foster and empower storytellers. The Academy also celebrates those who excel in the industry recognizing their achievements through awards and accolades, including the renowned Emmy Award. Membership in the Academy is open to working professionals in the television industry.
So, would you like to see the Primetime Emmy and the Daytime Emmys fold into one show if the two unions reached a unification arrangement? Do you hope that after almost 50 years, the two organizations can finally make some serious headway? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
