The CW Cancels ‘Dynasty’; Show Will End With Current Fifth Season

Photo: CW

As some had suspected, with ailing ratings and virtually no promotion, the CW’s reboot of Dynasty has been canceled.  The primetime soap will end at the end of its current fifth season, meaning no season six as die-hard fans and the cast and crew had hoped for.

Dynasty has been a soap on steroids, with snappy dialog, over-the-top storylines, and some wonderful performances especially from series lead, Elizabeth Gillies (Fallon).  Elizabeth tweeted upon the news of the cancellation: “SO PROUD OF MY BEAUTIFUL DYNASTY FAMILY!!”

According to Deadline, the show had been kept in production partly because of the revenue it generated with its deal with Netflix.

The cast includes: Daniella Alonso as Cristal Carrington, Elaine Hendrix as Alexis Carrington Colby, Rafael de la Fuente as Sammy Jo Jones, Sam Underwood as Adam Carrington, Michael Michele as Dominique Deveraux, Robert Christopher Riley as Michael Culhane, Sam Adegoke as Jeff Colby, Maddison Brown as Kirby Anders, Adam Huber as Liam Ridley, Eliza Bennett as Amanda Carrington and Grant Show as Blake Carrington.

CW’s Dynasty was the reboot of the classic 80’s ABC primetime version, which aired from 1981-1989, with a modern twist to several of the characters and stories.

So, sad to know there will be no more Dynasty on the CW? Do you think the show could be shopped somewhere else? Comment below.

Come on now, let’s get real: you’re one of only 17 people that watched it. It’s not worth it to anyone. Just like the people that still think OLTL and AMC are going to come back. If anyone cared and had been watching them, they’d still be on.

I wouldn’t bet your soul on that happening… apparently Netflix held the international streaming rights for this & most of the other CW shows, and since Netflix is having their own financial issues recently, they apparently ended the deal, and this was a big factor in the bloodbath at CW yesterday, where they pretty much cancelled 80% of their network.

Never watched this show, but CW seems to be imploding. I doubt that so-called “network” will exist at all by this time next year. Damn shame really… even if you didn’t like the content on the network – which consisted mostly of comic book adapations and – like this “Dynasty” reboots of old TV shows with “diversified” casting – the one thing they did right was to allow free streaming of their shows from website/app/Roku channel/etc. with no cable subscriptions required. Of course that was before CBS launched Paramount Plus & Warner became part of the HBO Max thing (which… Read more »

Too bad about Dynasty. Pure, escapist, campy drama. Really enjoyed it. Hopefully, Netflix picks it up.

Not at all surprised. Two Alexis woefully miscast and wardrobed. Two bland Crystal Carringtons, a disappeared Steven, a Sami Jo makeover miscast. It ambled along but never quite found it’s footing. At all.

davlestev1…I never tried to watch Dynasty 2. I just knew you could never recast Joan Collins, Linda Evans, Heather Locklear and John Forsythe.
