Saturday Night at the Creative Arts Emmys for scripted programming, Judith Light finally won her first primetime Emmy Award in her illustrious nearly 50-year television career.

Light took home the gold in the Best Comedy Guest Actress category for her work in Peacock’s Poker Face. In her nominated performance, Judith plays a 60s radical hiding out in a retirement home in the Peacock comedy-murder mystery series that stars Natasha Lyonne.

This was Judith’s fifth primetime Emmy nomination in her career, having previously been nominated for her performances in Transparent, and Ugly Betty. As soap fans know, Light has previously won two Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for  unforgettable performances as Karen Wolek on One Life to Live. Judith won her Daytime Emmys in 1980 and 1981.

In her brief acceptance speech, Judith thanked her fellow nominees and gave major kudos to the creators of Poker Face for creating such a memorable role as Irene Smothers, a retirement home resident and one-half of a duo, who also have a penchant for murder.

Following her victory tonight, Judith addressed the press and shared: “This win is everything. It’s about this Academy, which has acknowledged me in this way. I’ve been in the business a long time, so this is quite a gift. … For so many areas of my life, it means so many different things.”

In addition to celebrating her Emmy win, Light took the moment to talk about the tough year the actors and writers in the industry faced with their labor strikes and more.

Judith added, “We are a resilient industry and we are people of purpose; we’re also people of service So much of what happened last year was about supporting other people. I know that it’s important to focus on those things and all of the things that were gained because it was challenging for everybody. I think we often forget we’re in a business of service: We give a performance; We give to each other on set; We are about the people who watch us. It is about the giving.”

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards will be televised live next week on Fox on January 15th. Tomorrow, January 7th, will be the second leg of the Creative Arts Emmys where the world of unscripted series will be honored.
