Julia Pace Mitchell who plays Sofia on The Young and the Restless confirmed to CBS Soaps In Depth that she has been bumped to recurring status by the number one show, although the series itself would not comment on her contract status as is their policy.

Mitchell stated she is still thrilled to be in Genoa City:  “I’m so happy to be here.  Every time I come to work, I’m excited to see Jeanne Cooper and Stephen Nichols work. This show has changed my whole life. It’s really cool. These are some of the hardest working actors in show business.”

The actress also revealed she is starting her own hair care company which people can learn about on her website: www.JuliaPaceMitchell.com.

So soapers, what do you think of Sofia’s storylines on Y&R?  Do you think the character has been badly written? Would you like to see Julia have more airtime?  Let us know!

I saw this coming, although I saw her more of being let go then put on recurring.

I don’t care for the character of Sofia anymore. I don’t like that they had her sleep with Neil and then have his baby. It should have been Malcolm or they should have gotten someone else for Neil that was not engaged (broken up, whatever) for him to have a child with.

The last straw with me with Sofia was when she wanted to up and leave with their son to New York. Now this is just ME, but I have more traditional values about family. Being a stay-at-home mom of two little ones and happily married, I don’t see how they could have justified having Sofia just move with Neil’s son without a second thought from Neil. I mean you just don’t do that. And it is not like Sofia is the better parent since Moses has a nanny. I mean she can’t make an argument that Moses needs her more than his father because they are both working parents and spend about the same amount of time with him. It is not like she stays home or works part time or is on maternity leave to bond with her child.

Either they have some great story for Sofia with a new love interest or they keep her on recurring (to come out once in a while) like Gloria is feasible. They can bring her out for run-ins with Neil and when Tucker needs to talk business.

Chances are they are going to kill off her character so that Neil will have sole custody of their son.

I could see that.

Bring Drucilla back. Victoria Rowell and Sharon Case made this show what is today for a lot of us middle aged people. Been watching 34 straight years. They two had me at HELLO <3

I really think they need to bring a Malcolm for Sophia and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring Victoria Rowell back as Drucilla for Neil. Lily just re cast Chelsea KILL off.

Miss Mitchell is not a good actress. She brings nothing extra in any of her scenes. I can only hope she’s going to be off the show soon. If the new regime has any interest in getting viewership up, they should ask Victoria Rowell to come back as Dru.

Isn’t ‘who a character is’ or ‘what a character becomes’ w/n a story, driven for the most part by the writing/storyrunners vision?

Considering the writers during each of their tenures and understanding that actors should be able to bring certain nuances to even poorly written s/ls, not sure there was much difference in their choice of presentation – just the preceived end result..

We can now officially add Genie Francis to the list of actors/actresses being let go from Y&R! Genie was axed by Y&R today due to “budget reasons”. Will Daniel Goddard (Cane) follow her out of town and never return? One can dream!

Oh well –
GF’s Y&R character was all over the canvas, but there were enjoyable moments. Hope DG does not follow; I know unpopular but saw more acting ability (even with poor s/ls) than with some that are constantly lauded.

breaking news genie francis has been let go due to budget costs. more actors to be fired soon on the young and the restless.

Chelsea should of been the first to go and get axed. YUCK enough of pushing that one on us!

Amen and Amen

Leave town take Moses have him be Malcom’s son and redo the Lily fiasco and make her Neils daughter problem solved. I have a long list of characters you can get rid of just call me.

Kay/Kay I got one AX CHELSEA and PHYLLIS How much more can we take of them!

Honestly not surprised. The character of Sofia has been through around like a hockey puck since she joined the show, and her needy nature is just not something I like seeing. She’s more a recurring character.

I can definitely see Sofia as a recurring character. I’m glad to say she’s going to be around from time to time.

I though she was already recurring.

Now its time to bring back Dru! (How many times has Neil been Married since she’s been gone, 2 or 3?)

BRING DRUCILLA BACK FOR NEIL AND HERR BFF SHARON > BOTH MY ALL TIME FAVORITES

KILL OFF CHELSEA ALREADY! They had to off found her on the street of something. Girl can’t act!!!

kill off chelsea, her mother and father.

What storylines? Overall, Sofia has been boring. She did get interesting when she told Harmony to back off, but that’s about it.

Sofia was first introduced as a strong and smart business woman and Tucker’s right hand. Unfortunately, the writing for her character has ruined that first impression by making her drab and needy. Romantic entanglements don’t have to make a person weak, but in this case, they did. It’s too bad….

Next step, axed…please? Can’t believe she wasn’t fired with the rest of them or even before some of the ones let go.

I would like to see more of Soifa please bring her back as well as Ashley and abby, what are you guys doing! this is number one soap! Ashley is a big part of this soap and I was sad to see her go! WHAT WERE YOU GUYS THINKING.

REPORT: Nicholas Chavez Not Returning to General Hospital

For those who were holding out hope that Daytime Emmy winner and fan favorite, Nicholas Chavez would be returning to General Hospital after filming his leading role in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters anthology, it looks like those hopes have been dashed.

According to a report from TV Line, although unconfirmed from General Hospital or a representative for Chavez, the actor will not reprise his role as Spencer Cassadine on the long-running ABC soap opera and continue the love story of Sprina opposite Tabyana Ali (Trina, GH).

Chavez was cast as Lyle Menendez over the the summer of 2023 for the second season of Murphy’s limited Monsters series on Netflix. In the upcoming season, the series will focus on the the case of Lyle and Erik Menendez, the two well-to-do Beverly Hills brothers accused of murdering their parents in 1989.

After word from Chavez casting was revealed, GH fans were concerned over the fate of the Sprina story, a spokesperson for GH shared,  “We support Nicholas’ endeavors and look forward to having him return to General Hospital once this project is wrapped.”

In story, the series “killed off” Spencer when he went overboard with Esme to the steely waters below after being injected with a drug, thanks to Esme and falling into the Seine River in France. However, his body was never recovered, and believed to have drowned or washed away. Thus, leaving an opening for Spencer to return in the form of Chavez or be recast down the line.

TV Line shared that ‘multiple sources’ are confirming that Chavez is not returning to the ABC soap opera, which is what many had suspected might be the case once he left for this major starring role in a Ryan Murphy project. Chavez has been relatively quiet on social media for months.

The Michael Fairman Channel spoke with Nicholas Chavez for a virtual interview when he first joined the show in 2021, and spoke to him right after when he won the Daytime Emmy in 2022 – you can see those below.

Jack Wagner Open to Making an Appearance in ‘Melrose Place’ Reboot and Shares, “You Never Really Die on a Soap”

With the Melrose Place revival the talk of the town, now Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco, GH, ex-Nick, B&B and ex-Peter Burns, MP) has weighed-in on it and if he would show up in the new series if it should find a home.

Currently, CBS Studios is developing a reboot starring Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton. But what is Dr. Peter Burns were to show up alive?

As those who saw the end of the original MP know, Peter and Amanda (Locklear) faked their deaths and then tied the knot with Peter on a beach, supposedly in a “happily ever after” scenario.

Photo: Fox

Speaking with PEOPLE, Wagner expressed, what we all know who watch the soaps, that no one is never, ever really gone for good. Jack expressed, “You never really die on a soap, right? How they unfold those two characters (Peter and Amanda), it’d be fantastic how they sort of tell that story.”

Wagner added, “That was a great finale to be included in, especially with Heather. If I’m asked to come back, I’d absolutely entertain that.”

Photo: Fox

The original Melrose Place aired for seven seasons from 1992 to 1999. The story featured the residents of an apartment complex, whose lives were intertwined. Eventually Wagner and Heather Locklear dated fro 2007-2011.

As previously reported, the new Melrose Place share that some of original neighbors and friends reunite after a death. The loglines add, “The pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”

So, would you like to see Jack Wagner return as Dr. Peter Burns on Melrose Place, or Frisco Jones on GH, or both? Comment below.
