The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) announced today that Kathy Griffin will host daytime’s biggest night when she hosts the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Sunday night June 22nd. The program will be presented live to a national and global audience from the ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday, June 22.

When reached for comment Griffin said, “I am beyond thrilled to be hosting what I’m told is the most important television event of the year. Knowing that over 100 million people from every corner of the planet will be watching, I will try to keep my nerves at bay and deliver a great show. I can only hope that at the end of the evening, critics and fans alike will compare it to the experience they once had watching Neil Armstrong take man’s first step on the moon. My only regret is knowing that this epic evening will distract millions of viewers from enjoying this year’s World Cup. I apologize to FIFA.”

“We are very excited to have Kathy leading our ceremony this year,” said Malachy G. Wienges, Chairman of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. “She is a beloved figure in the community and we know that she will have audiences laughing the night away as we honor the brightest stars in our industry on a global stage.”

In January Kathy Griffin won the Grammy-Award for “Best Comedy Album.” She is also a two-time Emmy Award winner, 8-time Emmy Award nominee, a NY Times bestselling author, and was recently inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records for her unprecedented 20 televised stand-up comedy specials.Griffin is probably best known for her Emmy Award winning reality show, “My Life on the D-List,” which aired on Bravo from 2005-2010. She’s co-hosted or guest hosted several daytime and late night talk shows, entertainment news programs and specials including “The View,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “E! News,” “Larry King Live” and “Anderson Live,” among several others. Griffin previously hosted “The Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards” on more than one occasion for the Television Academy (ATAS).

This is the first time in its history that the prestigious organization will be utilizing streaming technology, provided by Livestream LLC, to broadcast the awards show, and it does so in the hopes that audiences around the world will be able to engage in an event which celebrates programs that are known internationally and boast a global fan base. The 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be available for viewing live at www.daytimeemmys.net beginning at 5:00pm on June 22. Emmy Awards will be handed out for twenty-five categories, including several new ones announced this year.

NATAS will also be connecting with viewers through their social media platforms, enlisting the help of several social media ambassadors to capture special moments on-site and share them via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine and YouTube.

Kathy Griffin is awesome—one of my favorites of all time.

I agree with you, Kathy is a funny lady and she will do a wonderful job hosting the daytime emmys.

YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!

KATHY IS OUR QUEEN!!!

And all you conservatives, in Kathy’s words: You can suck it!!! 🙂

Well, thanks Mama. I guess about 50% of the soap audience won’t watch this foul mouthed gutter tramp. Her act with Anderson Cooper on CNN’s New Year’s Eve is disgusting. She was on her knees simulating fellatio last December 31st. Sorry, but it wasn’t even close to being funny.

She is classless, has nothing to do with daytime, and who would be stupid enough to watch this tramp ring in the new year!

What is wrong with everyone? She is NOT funny, she is a gutter tramp who spews filthy garbage and has NO connection to daytime whatsoever. I suppose no one better wanted to be associate with this mess of a show. I predict this will be an epic disaster.

I agree with the others, the show should have classy daytime legend like Erika Slezak or Robin Strasser instead of a piece of crap. 😉

You guys really need to take a chill pill.

She’s a freakin’ comedy genius. I wasn’t even going to watch the live stream until I found out this gem was going to be hosting.

So much for the theory that this year’s show will lose viewers. There is a REASON: Kathy brings in ratings and she is a two-time Emmy winner.

GOD BLESS KATHY GRIFFIN!!!

i agree Mitch…hopefully if this comes back next year theyll find someone with good taste to host…Bill Cosby perhaps?

To all the prudes,

We get it. You’re OFFENDED by Kathy. Solution: Don’t watch. Nobody is holding a gun to your heads. Am sure FEUX NEWS will be presenting some special over how Hillary Clinton did terrible things in Benghazi Special. Problem solved.

Now that is all over, I WAS RIGHT! 😉

As a fan of Kathy, I am loving this! I hope to not miss this event!! And with HLN at the helm, I won’t have random people singing and getting interviewed on stage, on what Jeanne Cooper would’ve called a “f**king couch”.

I find her “comedy” vulgar and disturbing. Now that the thing is not being televised…why are they still hiring a host who has no connection to what the daytime emmy awards are about?? That was one of the things that was a sore spot for many years.

I agree…why not a classy daytime legend like Erika Slezak as host like k/kay suggested or Robin Strasser instead of that piece of filthy garbage with no connection to daytime…

How very sad. There are so many wonderful previous soap stars that could have done this. Instead they pick this awful person.

Amen to that, jimh! When I read that this tasteless trollop/guttersnipe was hosting the program, I was glad it wasn’t being telecast, as I wouldn’t have watched it anyway. However, the good news is that MS. Griffin should go down a real treat with the pro-crypt sex crowd! (Perhaps that last phrase was an unfortunate choice of words given her appalling New Year’s Eve antics with AC, but I assure you there was no pun intended!)

They should have had four hosts, each representing their soap.

Kathy Griffen?…the award ceremony has gone down the toilet…why cant a former daytime star from past soaps or another daytime show be the host!!!

Now when a soaps actress win will hear K.G. announce ‘and this years bitch trophy winner is…’…i definately wont be watching with this unfunny classless twit!!!

Sorry you are the twit, Kathy would spit on your face. LOL. Kathy is a very talented comedian.

ahh ha! Kathy Griffen can deliver some great F— words along with a variety of cool trash talk .. she can get down and dirty LOL
doubt she fling any of it but it is the internet/not censored..

mama, su, Tony and others if you like to roll in the mud with a pig then more power to you…

Lets face facts, award shows are pretty boring, the host basically is there to entertain the troops from getting too restless while waiting for their category to come along. The host is usually a comedian or someone improv chops who can think on their feet, most actors, are not equip for the task which why they rarely get asked to host. You just have to listen to those presenting awards when they attempt to be funny by either reading the script or going off it— they are so bad at it—– KG is not my favorite, but she will keep things lively and prevent those at home on computers on in the audience from nodding off—which is what they are paying her to do.

They shouldve got Ellen or Whoopi who are commedianes and part of the daytime family!!!

— I personally wouldn’t want to sit through two hours of f bombs and lewdness either, so let’s hope KG will tone it down.

But as for your suggestion about Ellen or Whoopi– both have hosted the Oscars, so I doubt they could afford those two anymore— I think Queen Latifah might be a good host. I saw her do the People’s Choice award once and I thought she was decent at it. However, all these shows are trying to attract younger viewers to keep the franchise going, and in their mind younger means crude and rude, which is why they opt for those types of comedians lately. They forget about the viewers they do have while they try to attract viewers they don’t have.

Oh well, I will not be watching, will Google the winners before I go to bed that night—

I hope she does tone it down some… but i wont be watching…i rather be a prude than part of crude and rude!!!

My mother always told me, that if I don’t have anything nice to say, say nothing.
Smart woman she was…

“”

So now that the Emmys are no longer on tv is when they decide to get a host worthy of watching go figure! No wonder daytime doesn’t get any respect daytime are their own worst enemy!

So we could not get Erika Slezak a six time emmy winner with the utmost love for Daytime to host? Instead we get a classless foul mouth wannabe comedian. So glad I won’t be watching.

I so agree with you…i wouldve loved daytime legend Erika Slezak…someone who is classy and was part of the daytime family…as host and not that trashy Kathy Garbage!!!

Notice you never see Kathy Griffin and Danny Bonaduce in the same room together! Thank God!

LOL you are very miserable. Kathy Griffin is a funny comedian, she will be great as a host.

Would you think its funny if a school bully said a vulgar insult to a kid in your family like Kathy The Pig talks about celebrities and other news makers…kids see this and how some adults find her crass vulgar insults are funny and think its all right for them to do the same…not funny at all!!!!

@Ryan How am I miserable? Because I happen to think if you want to be treated with respect and Daytime actors etc do then why bring yourself down to the bottom. Bill Cosby is one of the funniest comedians of all time I have seen him in concert numerous times and he never had to utter one filthy word. The sad thing is KG has no self worth she is the one that is miserable and trust me Anderson Cooper is praying he does not get stuck with her at another New Year’s gig! @jmh Thanks for the backup I still think you are really Jerry Mathers!

Haha…can’t go by me. I think Hugh Jackman should host everything!

She’ll be able to cuss like crazy without a censor. Should be a real “family” show. LOL.

Yes Julie I agree with your comment. I will be watching, Kathy is hilarious.

PUKE!

I hope she does the soap industry proud. Love her.

I have only one question, will the Daytime Emmys be on regular TV?

No Kathi not on tv this year, it will be on the internet this year.

Will there be an encore presentation if you miss the live stream for some reason?

I love Kathy, but I find it extremely insulting that there is no TV deal in place. NATAS should just cancel or postpone the event until a proper TV deal is found. Embarassing

Wow… so many haters out there.. just give her a chance and you will see what a great job and person Kathy is… She will attract viewers to watch.. i will be watching now only because of her hosting..

She’s filthy and not funny unless you like toilet and gutter humor. No thanks.

Now SALLY.. Your calling Kathy filthy? All you have to say is that her you don’t find her humor funny and it is not for you.. Remember the golden rule…. treat others how you would like to be treated…

NO KATHY GRIFFEN…Kathy Griffen is a crass vulgar moron…her insensitive unfunny rude humor poking fun at celebrities and whoever is NO different than an immature school bully…this is the crap you teach your kids today and then most wonder why some kids are like the way they are…if you like a roll in the mud with this pig you are welcome too it but this so called conservative likes to stay clean in a nice warm shower!

Personally the only comedian I even truly enjoy these days is Dennis Miller….sometimes rather risque’, yes, but my God, what an intellect that man possesses….it’s like one can laugh and learn at the same time!!!! (They could have at least gotten Jay Leno….he may be on the mild side, but he is a gentleman and wouldn’t embarrass the soap industry by spewing filthy, crude garbage! I still miss his even-handed monologues and PG -rated humor to top off the evening!)

Forgot all about D.M., i wouldve settled for either one over that(every word you described her in the other post above)…i will never watch her in anything…wish Carol Burnett couldve hosted!!!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THATS THE BEST THEY COULD DO…………..WONT WATCH!!!

I’m really pleased that they’ll be live-streaming this event so EVERYONE can
see it, and not just those who can afford cable. Even though I don’t always
agree with the choice of winners, I haven’t even been able to watch the
Daytime Emmys since the “regular” networks stopped carrying it, a few
years ago. So, regardless of who hosts it, I’m just happy to get the opportunity
to see it again! Yay!

Don’t get me wrong…I’m a Kathy Griffin fan. But…at times, I feel like KG goes OVERBOARD and goes WAY TOO FAR as a female comic. I’m sorry but I think that NATAS should have chosen someone else to host this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards. I think I’ll skip watching it this year. Pass.

Regis Philbin would have been perfect. He is warm, funny, and a legend!

Yes, and he was a former daytime star!!!

Mama, i met Hillary Clinton…nice friendly and lovely lady…ill watch her…Thanks for the info…and enjoy your trash(KG, hosting the emmys) day!!!

Whom ever is producing this show obviously doesn’t grasp the general overview of the soap audience. I don’t dislike her, but she’s a poor choice as hostess for this type of venue.

Mark Consuelos Celebrates One-Year Anniversary as Co-Host of ‘Live’ Alongside Kelly Ripa

Today, April 17th marks a full-year since Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo, All My Children) took over the co-hosting duties of ‘Live” alongside his wife, and longtime co-host, Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, All My Children).

Consuelos replaced Ryan Seacrest who are six seasons decided to be back on the west coast full-time. For Consuelos, now having the opportunity to work off of Ripa as co-hosts has been something of adjustment for him, but viewers have been eating it up.

Live with Kelly and Mark has remained the No. 1 entertainment talk show on television over the past year, growing 3% in average total viewers to 2.23M per episode.  It is also the most-watched daytime talk show in the last year in key demos of women 18-49 and women 25-54. All of this, since the real-life marrieds teamed-up.

Photo: ABC

Speaking with Deadline, Kelly Ripa shared why the two are gelling on-screen, “I do think that there is something very possibly relatable about our relationship. We have disagreements like a normal couple, and we’re not afraid to let them unfold on the air and in front of America, and I think people find a lot of themselves in that.”

Mark weighed in how he has progressed as a host, and what he could improve at, sharing, “I’d like to get better at my interviewing skills. I’d like to get better at reading a teleprompter…I think I’m getting better at throwing to commercial. The other day in the middle of the show as we go to commercial, my sign off was ‘See you guys around.’ I mean, the show wasn’t over. The most obvious thing to say would be, ‘We’ll be back right after this.’ But I just said, ‘See you around.’ So we went to commercial and one of the producers (goes) ‘What was that?’ I don’t know… So for the next few sign offs, as a joke, I’d say ‘See you around.’ We got a kick out of it.”

Photo: ABC

Meanwhile, Kelly has given huge props to Mark, “I find Mark utterly compelling, really interesting, super funny, and he’s bold in a way like nobody else. He says what’s on his mind. If he’s thinking it, he says it.  I’ve done this a long time and oftentimes people will adjust their natural personalities to pander to what they think the audience wants to hear, and Mark will tell people what he thinks, and he doesn’t care if it’s not a popular opinion. It gives him an edginess that I think is really missing in the landscape today. Everybody’s so afraid to say anything, and Mark is unafraid to say exactly what he’s thinking.”

In a statement, Debra O’Connell, President News Group and Networks, Disney Entertainment shared, We could not be more thrilled with how Mark has seamlessly joined the show family as permanent co-host. His undeniable charisma and his and Kelly’s natural chemistry are evident as they deliver the laughs and smiles to our viewers each morning. We are incredibly proud of how Live has continued to evolve and that the audience is responding so enthusiastically.”

So, do you think Mark Consuelos is the best co-host his wife Kelly Ripa has ever had on ‘Live’? How would you say he is doing as co-host after one full year on the job? Comment below.
