Katie Couric's new talk show cleared in 93% of the country! How will this impact GH?

Courtesy/Chicago-SunTimes
News out today, and also in part via a press release from Disney/ABC Domestic Television, is that Katie Couric’s new talker, Katie has been sold in 95 of the top 100 markets and has been cleared in 93% of the U.S. The show is set to debut in September of 2012, leaving many wondering what is the true fate of General Hospital, since Katie looks to be taking over their timeslot.
Now according to the Disney release, “In only four months, Katie Couric’s highly anticipated nationally syndicated talk show, Katie, has already been cleared in 93% of the country. The sales momentum behind ‘Katie’ has been truly remarkable. The multi-talented Katie Couric is in a class all her own, which is why we believe the show has led the charge in the first-run syndication marketplace this year. We are committed to an extraordinary launch with these preeminent stations across the country.”
Disney-ABC Domestic Television has secured outstanding station clearances and key early fringe time periods for the LIVE one-hour daily daytime talk show. Sales to date include 95 of the top 100 markets. In addition to the ABC Owned station group, “Katie” has also been sold to leading stations from broadcast groups including Allbritton Communications, Belo Corporation, Cox Media Group, Gannett Broadcasting, Granite, Griffin, Hearst Television, LIN Broadcasting, McGraw-Hill, Media General, Meredith, Raycom, Scripps Howard Broadcasting, Sinclair and Young Broadcasting, among others.”
So can ABC/Disney restructure their daytime line-up to include GH and Couric? We think so, by certainly getting rid of The Revolution! But, let us know your thoughts?

‘General Hospital’s’ Dominic Zamprogna Shares He Was ‘Happy to Hear’ of The Triangle Storyline Developing Between Dante/Elizabeth/Ric

General Hospital’s Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Falconeri) opened up about the burgeoning love triangle forming between his Port Charles alter-go, Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) after recently aired scenes, plus his hopes for the future of a Dante and Liz pairing, during his appearance on the Sunday, April 23 edition of the That’s Awesome podcast with Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli).
On last week’s episodes of GH, Ric has made the decision that he wanted to propose to his ex-wife, only when he showed up at Elizabeth’s front door, he misread the scenario he walked in with Liz tending to Dante’s injured leg from the softball game. From there, the legal eagle’s jealous streak is reemerging which may cause him to act out and do something unforgivable, or will he take the high road? Stay tuned.
Speaking with Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson about where Elizabeth stands in the annals of the long-running soap, Zamprogna said, “She’s up there with Steve and Maurice (Maurice Benard) as one of the most legacy-filled people on the show.”

HOW DANTE AND ELIZABETH CAME ABOUT
Dominic jokes it’s a far cry for where Dante and Elizabeth previously, recalling, “We had some scenes together years ago and we were both laughing. Becky’s like, ‘Well, I guess we’re not going be paired up anytime soon.’ I remember we laughed immediately after they yelled ‘cut,”‘and said to each other, ‘Well, so much for that!'”
Fast-forward to early 2025 and as Zamprogna remembered it, “Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) came up to me at the General Hospital Christmas party, and I think it was a year and a half ago and she said, ‘We’re going to have you in scenes with Elizabeth,’ My internal monologue is going, ‘I’m not with Lulu (Alexa Havins) anymore and Sam’s (Kelly Monaco) gone, so maybe they want to see if this works.’ I didn’t want to get scenes with Becky and try to find the chemistry. I just wanted to play whatever honestly was written and came across for both of us and hope it was what people liked, and I don’t know if it is … or not.”
Knowing how beloved Elizabeth is to the GH faithfuls, Zamprogna added, “She got a big fan base with Ric … and a big fan base with with Jason … and you know, you’re going to piss somebody off. But, didn’t Ric drug Elizabeth and put Carly in a panic room?”

DANTE AND ELIZABETH PAIRING COULD STIR UP STORY FOR OTHERS IN PORT CHARLES
In closing, Dominic felt that the wide-reaching tentacles of a Dante and Elizabeth relationship is something he is 100% down for. “The triangle thing; I was happy to hear it was with Ric and her, because I felt it’s important to have her the top of it as opposed to Dante, Lulu and Elizabeth.”
Zamprogna added, “When you get into relationships on a soap, things seem to fizzle out a little bit, The buildup is what’s the fun part, and the getting to know each other, and the people who are affected by this coming together. When with this case it’s going to affect: Ric, Sonny, Lulu. There’s so much more story here. To me, it’s going to be a fun story to play.”
You can check out Dominic’s visit to That’s Awesome with Steve and Bradford below.
Now weigh-in: Are you rooting for Dante and Liz, or Dante and Ric at this juncture of the story, or neither guy for Elizabeth? Let us know your thoughts and picks via the comment section.

GH and OLTL Alum Patrick J. Gibbons Reveals the Story Behind Writing Trina’s Song on ‘General Hospital’ (Exclusive)

At the conclusion of today’s August 21 episode of General Hospital, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) sings a lullaby to baby Dez, that went into a montage to close out the episode as her father Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) reports to Pentonville and winds up in his jail cell.
However, in a fun fact, the song entitled, “A Lonely Heart To Give” was actually written by none other than former One Life to Live and General Hospital actor, Patrick J. Gibbons.
Daytime fans first met Gibbons as Sam Manning on One Life to Live. At the time, when he started on the soap, he was just 5-years-old. Gibbons played the part from 2010-2013 on ABC and Prospect Park’s editions of the show. Fast-forward to 2018, Gibbons shows up on General Hospital as Wyatt Hoover, the scout who seemed always be injured, but in the thick of the drama. Patrick had appeared on GH multiple times as Wyatt including: 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023.

FROM HIS GRANDMOTHER’S DEATH CAME THE INSPIRATION FOR HIS SONG
Now in 2026, General Hospital fans are getting to learn about another side of Gibbons’ talent as a songwriter and guitar player after “A Lonely Heart to Give” debuted today! Michael Fairman TV caught up with Patrick, who is now a senior at Penn State entering his final year as a finance major, to get the back-story of how his song wound up on GH!
Gibbons explained he wrote the song in honor of his grandmother who passed away a few years ago with whom he was, very, very close with. “Randomly, my grandmother had a downfall and passed away during the second semester of my sophomore year. I was in my dorm a lot and I was just playing with my guitar. And at the time, I was really into finger-style playing. I wrote the lyric and music to it (with a little help from my guitar teacher Lou), and my mom showed the rough demo to Frank Valentini (EP, General Hospital). He’s like an uncle to me. Frank loved it so much he said, “Finish that up. I want to hear the whole thing, and I want it on the show.”
MAKING MUSIC FOR GENERAL HOSPITAL
Gibbons and his parents took the next steps! “So now, all we needed was a female voice, because I thought that would fit the song well,” Patrick shared. “At the golf club we go to my parents were at a dinner. They liked the singer that was performing and spoke to her about the song, and she says she would like to bring it to her ‘boss’ who ended up being Eric Bazilian of the Hooters fame!” (Bazilian also wrote the smash hit song “One of Us” for Joan Osborne).
Next, “We went in the studio and recorded it and the song came together and it was beautiful. We loved it. They loved it at General Hospital and now they’re putting it the show and they are coming in with a piano, instead of a guitar. Paul Glass, the GH musical director, has been keeping us updated over the last six months of how it was coming along, and when it would air, and how GH put their own arrangement to it. I can’t wait to see and hear what they did with it.”

PATRICK’S ONE LIFE TO LIVE FAMILY
Everyone knows that the One Life to Live extended family share a very tight bond, and Patrick said he does stay in touch with a few of his former One Life to Live co-stars, especially those from the Manning family! “I stayed in touch with Kassie DePaiva (ex-Blair) and sent her little videos here and there. She was like my second mom for five years. We keep in contact with Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr) over X the most, and she can’t believe how big I’ve gotten. Like, none of them can! (laughs). I also loved working with Roger Howarth (ex-Todd) and Trevor St. John (ex-Todd and Victor Jr.), and to me since I was so young, they were just my friends, ‘Roger and Trevor,’ not Todd Manning or Victor Jr.”
It was a trip to California and a visit to Port Charles that ultimately led to Gibbons second soap role of Wyatt Hoover. Patrick explains, “In 2016, Frank Valentini invited us out to Los Angeles to visit the set of General Hospital. I think he heard me say, ‘This is so much fun. I miss being on the set.’ He goes, ‘You should come out. I’ll bring you on the show. We can make you a character.'”
A few years later, Patrick’s dream became a reality! “Then, by the summer of 2018, I was playing Wyatt, the scout, and shared scenes with Wes Ramsey (Peter August), and the best was when I shared a scene with Roger Howarth and Michael Easton (ex-John, OLTL and ex-Silas, Finn et al, GH), it was like chemistry from the old days.”

IT’S ALL IN THE NUMBERS
As to his future aspirations, it’s a career in the finance game that has piqued Gibbons’ real-life interest. But never say never to a return to acting. Patrick explained, “I’ve always enjoyed numbers. And on top of that, one of the biggest parts of finance is being personable and outgoing.”
He continued, “That’s one of the greatest skills I developed growing up. I really love the markets. I’m super interested. I’m never going to close the door to acting. I’m always open to that because I just love it so much. It’s such a great art.”
Take note! If there are any investment bankers or private equity folks among the GH faithful looking for a young analyst next year, Patrick’s DMs are open. You can find him on X at @PatrickJGibbons.”
So, what did you think of the song sung by Trina on today’s GH that was written by Patrick J. Gibbons? Did you enjoy Patrick’s performances as One Life’s Sam and GH’s Wyatt? Would you like to see him back on GH at some point? Let us know via the comment section.

‘General Hospital’ Alum Chad Duell Admits That He Didn’t Expect the Role of Michael Corinthos to be Recast, and Would Consider Working on Another Soap (Exclusive)

Chad Duell, the Daytime Emmy-winning actor, who stepped away from the pivotal role of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, opened up about: his previous decision to leave the series after nearly 15 years, where’s he’s at now after time away from the demands of a daytime soap opera, and took a stroll down memory lane with some of Michael’s most-acclaimed storyline during his run, during a livestream chat on August 19 on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel.
Viewers last saw Duell on-screen as Michael in January of 2025, and with his successor in the role, Rory Gibson making his debut at the GH Nurses’ Ball in episodes that aired later in May. It was clear that during the conversation, Chad was a bit surprised that the GH brass decided to recast him when he thought he was just taking some much needed time off.
Burn-out of the daily grind of being on a soap was definitely a part of Chad’s decision to take a break. Duell explained “People know when you’re doing something for so long or your character is kind of in the same place for so long or doing the same stuff over and over again, you do get a a little burnt out, you get a little stiff, stale, a little stiff at times. I didn’t want that to be any sort of lasting impression. I have 15 years of a body of work of I’ve done on that show, which is fantastic.”

WHILE CHAD WAS AWAY GH RECAST MICHAEL CORINTHOS WITH RORY GIBSON
Chad shared, his mindset when leaving GH was, “I’m taking some time away, we’ll see what happens.” Then he added, “Obviously, they decided to go in a different direction with Michael when I was gone. I didn’t think they were going to bring somebody back in my place. But you know, it’s the business. You never know what can happen.”
Duell also shared he has not watched a single episode of General Hospital since he left the series, but now feels he reenergized following the loss of his father and stepping away from the GH, “I’m in a place now mentally, where I’m ready to sink my teeth into it again.”

Courtesy/ABC
Even though he is no longer Michael on GH, Chad was very happy with his final storyline where Michael was set on fire when a bomb exploded at Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) penthouse. “It was fun to put him in a dangerous situation, because I was wanting Michael to be in something scary instead of trying to be a hero character or just things happening around him, but to be the center point of tragedy happening to him. (I always saw) Michael as the heart of the (Corinthos) family.”
When Michael was badly burned the show chose not burn his face, which normally a soap does when they are recasting role and switching actors. Chad weighed-in, “They didn’t burn my face because I told Frank Valentini (EP, GH) I’m willing to come back. It was just a little bit of a break. So, I assumed that if they would have burned my face, they could have brought somebody back looking different than me… if that’s what their plan was.”

MEMORABLE MICHAEL STORYLINES
One of Chad’s most memorable performances was the in the storyline of Michael’s rape while he was sentenced to prison in 2010 and the confession of it in 2011. “It was so well-written and I was very nervous,” recalled Chad. “When I get really nervous about something, it ends up being really good when I do it, because it just means I care a lot about it”
“I have to put a lot of effort and work into it, and I really want it to be good. I was working with Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) and Steve Burton (Jason) a lot during those scenes, and Laura Wright (Carly). It was great working with Steve and Dominic, especially, during that storyline.
A NEW SOAP ROLE FOR CHAD?
As to a future soap opera role, Chad is open to the idea and would love to jump back in to a juicy role, “I know people over at The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless. They know that if they’re interested, I would love to come in for a screen test or something, and they can see what I’m doing.”
Meanwhile, Chad has been busy putting out new music under the moniker Duelly and during the interview he explains how he creates his EDM tracks and much more. You can stream his latest single, Static in the Quiet Room on Spotify, Apple Music and You Tube Music.
You can check out the full conversation with Chad Duell below.
Now let us know: what show would you like to see Chad cast on down the line? BTG, DAYS, B&B, Y&R, or a new role on GH? What did you think of his thoughts on the casting switch while he was away in the role of Michael? What was your favorite Michael storyline during Chad’s 15-year run on the ABC soap opera? Or gh could go into nate bergus spot because his show was cancelled for 10am. I just dont want them to cancel the last soap i like
Who? I am not sure that airs everywhere.
Nate bergus is a syndicated show while General Hospital is a network show .It wouldn’t work.
Note that Katie’s new talk show is also a syndicated show. Therefore it technically won’t replace GH .The actual threat for GH is not that it will be replaced by Katie but rather the fact that ABC is going to give GH’s timeslot to its local stations with the hope that they will air Katie.
As Michael pointed out, the only way for General Hospital to survive is if it takes the OLTL/Revolution 2:00pm timeslot. ABC will never cancel The View or The Chew. But ABC can sure cancel The Revolution. But even if The Revolution gets canceled, GH must also improve its ratings if it wants to replace The Revolution in September. Otherwise, ABC will just cancel both The Revolution and General Hospital.
You mean Nate BERKUS not BERGUS.
Some ABC stations air local news as a lead in to its network daytime shows. ABC should put Katie in that hour. So,here in L.A,.the lineup would go:
10:00-The View,11:00-Katie Couric,noon-The Chew,1:00-The Revolution,leaving GH in the 2:00 time slot.
Obviously, the lineup would vary by affiliate/city. Although, cancelling the latter two and putting soaps back on would be ideal. 🙂
Oh my god Katie sucks really bad. I would rather watch mold grow. She has no charisma and the show topics are geared toward invalid nursing home guests.
So we have another celebrity shoved down our throats. What does Katie (really at nearly 60 years old) Couric have to offer that has not been offered before and failed. Bring back our soaps and there is not restructuring to be done. What makes abc think Couric will have an impact on soap fans? Just another attempt to school the “unwashed”. I am not watching.
I won’t be watching kissass Katie’s crappy show now or ever!!!!!
I AGREE SHARON, SHE FLOPPED ON CBS NEWS AND NOW THEY ARE GOING TO SHOVE HER DOWN OUT THROATS BUT NOT MINE I WILL NOT WATCH HER AT ALL. \\
KATIE DO US A FAVOR GO BACK TO NBC IF THEY WILL HAVE YOU
OR BETTER YET JUST GO AWAY ,, RETIRE YOU ARE RICH ENOUGHA
AND IF THEY GIVE YOU OUR GH SPOT THE ONLY SOAP LEFT ON ABC
WHO DO YOU THINK WILL WATCH YOU NO ONE, SO JUST HANG ON TO
GET CANCELLED LIKE OUR SOAPS DID
shes not going anywhere ,I hear they are paying this no talent 20 million dollars,abc/disney could have put that money towards a good thing, like keeping the soaps ,your right I wish she would go back to nbc, they could have taken her but I guess they didnt want her back after she trashed the cbs news, so they dont want her,I hope her show flops along with any program abc/disney puts on,I wish she would go away but shes not going anywhere anytime soon.shes taking the 3 oclock hour,if general hospital is canceled she is off to a very bad start .
ABC is TV’s Biggest JOKE!!!!!!!!!
In my area ABC has all talk shows on now except that one hour for GH so unless they decide to cancel a talk show which are cheaper to produce etc. probably my area will cancel GH for her. I don’t know about the other areas.
Actually, there’s still hope for General Hospital if ABC cancels The Revolution.
Below are the quotes from Jori Petersen, Vice President of Publicity at ABC following the Katie annoucement this past Summer.
“The announcement does not mean the inevitable cancellation of’‘General Hospital,’” said Petersen. “Rather it means that in September 2012, we will program our daytime block with our three strongest shows. We’ll have options for the daytime part just like with do each year with prime-time. We believe in all of our shows and the ones that our viewers want will be the ones that continue. There are many options that could happen … only time will tell. We are simply giving ourselves options for the future, which is a smart way to do business. The best way to ensure a favorite show stays on the air is to watch it.”
Anne Sweeney had a similar saying
“We are not announcing the end of General Hospital today. It’s up to each show to maintain a very high level of storytelling and audience engagement…The best way to ensure a favorite show stays on the air is to watch it.”
thats true, but mickey mouse has turned into quite the liar,I think its terrible how they canceled all my children and one life to live, I felt like someone came along and punched me in the stomach ,The chew did terrible when it first started now as far as abc says ,its doing great,I guess all the women are coming home, just to watch the chew,I dont understand the ratings thing ,But I do know that anyone over 49 ,they dont matter, Ive even heard 39 ,so I dont count.abc is going to be one of the thousands of networks ,and not anything like they use to be ,has anyone ever counted how many talk shows there are ?we are getting to much information.food clothes ,self improvement ,sex, martha stewart was canceled ,doesnt that mean anything ,no one was watching ,so if no one is watching, why did abc kill the soaps for these stupid shows?good grief ,who watches this kind of nonsense?Guess we will find out ,I wonder when abc will stop the headgames and tell us once and for all ,are we going to loose general hospital to?I just want to be ready, but they want to keep the ratings high ,then they will take the soap fans and hit us again ,with another disappointment, the magic words are by anne sweeney,we are not announcing the end of general hospital yet.also the best way to ensure a favorite show is to watch it,did she say that?because me and millions of others watched one life to live, and its gone.So abc liar, liar pants on fire.
Exactly! They are LIARS!!!!! Don’t believe anything they say! I think they’re just waiting for the dust to settle from the cancellation of AMC and OLTL! I think they’re just trying to make it look like they want to save GH so that they can wring their hands and say they tried. PLAUSIBLE DENIABILITY! I have no doubt that those liars have already made that decision and GH will soon be gone. Otherwise they wouldn’t have needed to lauch ‘The Spew or The Revulsion! I for one won’t be watching any of these crappy shows and probably nothing on GH because I hate being lied to!
I am so hoping that by the time September comes, they will realize that the two stupid shows that have taken our daytime soap slots have the lowest ratings ever and will either move Katie to one of those spots or swap with GH in an earlier time slot. In either case, not counting on much interest in the shows slated to replace AMC and OLTL and without ratings, hopefully they cannot stay! A girl can hope can’t she?
I tell you what this looks like…..it looks like ABC isn’t done giving their viewing audience the middle finger. Wow, a whole daytime lineup with nothing but talk shows. Where are these people coming up with the notion that this is what people want? Not to mention, Katie Couric? Does anyone really want to watch her? I mean, how many deals has she had in the last several years that haven’t worked out? I tell you what’s going to happen….ABC will put her crappy show on…pissing off the remaining daytime audience, which means people won’t watch Katie then finally her show will inevitably get cancelled and ABC will have to fork over a big chunk of change to get her out of her contract. ABC is killing their network….and they’re not even smart enough to realize it. This lets us all know that they only put Ron & Frank over at GH, so it can go out in a nice classy fashion. ABC has been incredibly vague about their future plans for GH…and now comes this announcement. I hope I’m wrong, but I can see the writing on the wall. And being that I have come to really not trust this network anymore, I’ll say that this is not good news for GH.
I will not watch Katie Couric’s new talker. I did not watch the Today Show when she was on (the Today Show improved when she left) or the CBS Evening news. She has a very annoying type of personality. Did she not have the lowest ratings on the CBS Evening news. ABC made a big mistake if they think she will help their ratings. Watching less and less of ABC. At one time the only network I watched.
I can’t stand Katie Couric either! She should’ve stayed on the Today Show. She was horrible on CBS News so the only network she has left to ruin is ABC which won’t be hard because it already stinks!
Katie Couric is an overpaid……way overpaid….person. She is part of the 1% I detest! What makes her so special? ABC you go with KC as you decline into an after thought!
What about the 4 pm slot, after all do we really need more news. Katie would be fine at 4. I say bump the news not GH!
ABC obviously does not care what we think about the other soaps or GH either. But I can tell you what I think about ABC. I hate ABC and will never watch anything ABC again. KC is just an overpaid journalist. The Today show didn’t miss her and neither did CBS.
GAG ME!! I see nothing has changed with abc. KC was HOT 20 years ago. She is nothing more than an overpaid daytime talk show host.
You got that right! KC is nothing more than an overpaid part of the 1%……. she gets millions for just opening her mouth. Give us a break!
I am going to pray that is “Katie” show tanks big time! I hate that ABC/Disney has gotten rid of 2 of the 3 soaps. It sucks!!! As women, we want love in the afternoon not another stupid talk show! I can’t believe the “Chew” is still up and going. It sounds stupid and i am not a fan of “The Revolution”! I have not once watched either of these shows. But i will support GH as long as they are on!
She already stunk up NBC & CBS so I’m sure she’ll do the same at ABC! They already ruined my afternoons so ABC can go to hell!
TANK KC! She is an overpaid person of little value! Someone, please see it for what is really is……help!
ABC HAS ALREADY UPSET ITS VIEWERS ENOUGH THEY NEED TO GET RID OF THE REVOLUTION PUT OLTL BACK ON THEN CANCEL THE CHEW BRING AMC BACK LEAVE GH WHERE IT IS AND PUT KATIE ON AT 4PM.IF THEY KEEP THIS UP THEY ARE GOING TO LOSE LOYAL DAYTIME VIEWERS ALTOGETHER WHEN THAT HAPPENS RATINGS ARE GOING TO GO DOWN LOWER THAN WHAT THEY ALREADY HAVE NO MATTER HOW GOOD KATIES TALK SHOW MAY OR MAY NOT BE.
WOW, I submit my post and its not here either ,ok Ill do it again,I read this at deadline and someone said they want to go to the place where the 7% live ,so I said me to ,I also gave a pitch for agnes nixon to get her stories back from abc,I also called katies couric a blabber mouth ,I say that about all talk shows ,I kept it clean i did not cuss, and said abc will no longer be on my tv except for general hospital ,they would not show it ,well forget about freedom of speech ,unless they like katie couric ,abc owns the sight ,either way katie courics stupid show will never be welcomed in my home.unless the chew or the revolution gets canceled ,Im afraid general hospital will be gone.
not looking good for general hospital. there will be an annoucement soon on general hospital. if they cancel my soap for katie couric im done with abc. enough is enough katie couric is boring and over paid. please im begging you abc renew genreal hospital.
Yawn. Old news. Haven’t we already known that Katie was getting GH’s spot for a year now?
I do believe that GH will get the Revolting’s spot since it is sinking like a stone AS LONG AS WE WATCH GH!
Yes, GH’s time slot is gone–it’s a done deal that cannot be reversed. Based solely on ratings, GH should take The Revolution’s time slot. But it’s not based solely on ratings. It’s determined by overall revenue. Because production costs for GH are so much higher, conceivably a lower rated show that costs substantially less could still generate more revenue. Whatever show generates the most money overall–regardless of ratings–wins.
True. The Revolution can take more punishment in its ratings than General Hospital does. That’s no brainer to anyone.
But at 1,3 millions viewers, The Revolutation has roughly half the number of viewers that General Hospital. I don’t know what is the ratio for the 18-49 women category, but I suspect it to be a 1:2 margin there also. With a difference that marginale between both shows, one has to wonder if ABC really makes more of The Revolution than it does of General Hospital. We’re not dealing with a small difference here.
Maybe we as fans should CANCEL ABC daytime altogether. Without viewers they are nothing.
ABC pushing a social agenda on the cheap w/ its new daytime-lineup. How are they spinning this to advertisers? Who are these advertisers (as I work full-time and won’t be watching or DVRing this garbage) so I can avoid buying their products? A list would be helpful. If ABC is not listening to soap fans, then maybe their advertisers will listen when their profits plummit.
How can ABC say they want cheaper shows and pay Katie Couric millions? Does any of this make sense?
KATIE COURIC SUCKS AND WILL NOT WATCH HER AT ALL
LEAVE OUR GH ALONE, YOU AT ABC MUST BE A BUNCH OF IDIOTS
DID YOU NOT LEARN WHEN YOU CANCELLED AMC AND OLTL
WHO WANTS ANOTHER TALK SHOW, KATIE COURIC WAS HORRIBLE
ON CBS NEW, GO BACK TO NBC IF THEY WILL HAVE KATIE
WE WANT OUR GH AND SOAPS NOT YOU
OH YEAH ABC CANCEL THAT WONDERFUL CHEW AND THE REVOLUTION YOU THINK IS SO WONDERFUL WHICH NO ONE IS WATCHING AND BOTH SHOW WILL NEVER BE SEEN ON MY TV
AND THE ONLY REASON I WATCH ABC IS FOR ONE HOUR GENERAL
HOSPITAL AND THAT IS ALL, I HAVE DISCONTINED ALL NITE PROGRANS AND DAYTIME EXCEPT FOR GH
AND WILL ALSO BOYCOTT DANCING WITH THE STARS FROM NOW ON
Im hearing 20 million ,thats alot of money that could have gone to all my children and one life to live. Its a waste of abc/disneys money .because katie couric isnt all that she is cracked up to be and she is soooooooo BORING.
How are the numbers for ABC daytime? If they tank, obviously they do not care. I’ve been watching NBC and CBS and you know, their shows are not bad.
I agree. I’m all for watching networks that still air daily soaps. GH is THE ONLY show I watch on ABC. I’ve given up GMA and the primetime shows I used to watch on ABC (Grey’s Anatomy, DWTS, Modern Family). Found good replacements on the other networks for primetime viewing and now only tune in to the Today show in the mornings.
You couldn’t have said it better Michael. ABC will never cancel The View or The Chew, and Katie is already a done deal. General Hospital’s only hope of survival is if The Revolution gets canceled. This is something that can certainly happen if OLTL and GH fans put their differences aside and join forces to support General Hospital.
Remember, Anne Sweeney and Jori Peteren told us that Katie’s talk show does not necessarily mean the end of General Hospital and that they will program their 2012-2013 daytime schedule based on their three stongest shows and what the viewers want to watch. So let’s show ABC that we, the viewers, want to watch General Hospital (not The Revolution) for next season.
thats right
Down with KC the overpaid go for nothing………
The good news here is that ABC is … finally … airing promos for GH once again. Definitely an encouraging sign that TPTB haven’t given up on the residents of Port Charles just yet.
they are, when ? I dont watch anything abc except general hospital ,so I would have no idea whats going on.the only one I saw was when they lied saying that the mannings where going to port charles,we thought forever, but later found out that its for a few shows.Really thought several people were going to gh,I was so happy about that .then kassie depava said abc wasnt telling the whole story about the visit, all abc is doing is trying to deceived us once again, walt disney is spinning in his grave ,he has to be ,if he was still with us more then half the garbage abc is shoving down our throats would be gone .and I dont think he would have given the ok to cancel the soaps,to much history there.
Kristan Alderson and Michael Easton are said to be long term. Thus far, KD is only for a few episodes, but she also said that anything was possible.
Is the Chew getting ratings? I don’t follow. Higher numbers than OLTL?
I know today’s GH ROCKED. With the exception of bouncy Maggie, todays episode must have been written by someone new. It was almost perfect it was so good!
The Chew is doing better than AMC, not as well as OLTL. Yes, GH was surprisingly good today. The scenes between Patrick and Robin were touching, but what really caught my attention was learning Johnny’s mother was Claudia–wasn’t expecting that.
I didn’t see it coming now about Claudia, but back when she was on I always thought she was his mother and Trevor the father.
OLTL the only people coming are ME. Kassie & Roger have 10 days of scenes only and they are leaving.
Brandon Barash gave an excellent, heart wrenching performance after finding out that Claudia was his mother, not his sister. True soap!
most likely RON Carlavati wrote it. He and Frank Valentini are at Gh Now…….Not Sure if they started yet…….. I haven’t started to watch GH…Waiting for MY people from OLTL!!
Maybe I’ll Tune in Today……
I’ll stay positive no matter what. If Gh gets cancelled,i’ll watch to the end, I love the show, the actors on it, good or bad, i still rather watch GH over alot of other things on the air. I prefer to stay positive instead of being negative ,so long live GH and to all predicting its survival, shut up already, either watch GH, or get lost.
Agree. Any soap is better than no soap.
Me too! I agree as well!
I will watch it to end as well…… After that, I am leaving ABC forever.
If ABC is going to cancel GH they have to let the writers know 6 months ahead of time so they can close the show. So the big shots will be making the decision around March with is just around the corner. We should know in April the fate of GH.
Yeah, probably just in time for their 49th anniversary, which is early April. That would be just like ABC. A big kick in the teeth to all.
I have never figured out why eecutives like Katie Couric, positively cannot stand this woman. I boycotted CBS news when she was there, now we are watching again and enjoying Scott Pelly. The Chew will survive. Have not seen 30 seconds of rhe Revolution but not suprised it is doing poorly. The Revolution could get cancelled, GH could get a temporary reprieve until they retool another talk type show . I think GH lasts until January 2013.
Could someone please explain to me exactly why ABC (the soap killing, shitty network) has to plug Katie’s show into the 3:00 time slot? I just don’t understand. Oprhah had the 4:00 timeslot for DECADES. There is NOTHING on in its place. I love Anderson Cooper on CNN but his afternoon show sucks. Again- there is NOTHING on at 4:00 except Anderson or Ellen (like her, not her show). WHY NOT just put Katie on at 4:00????? Why do Anne Sweeney and Disny insist on plugging Couric’s show on during GH’s timeslot. I would have looked forward to watching Couric on at 4:00- but if she takes over GH’s time, I will NEVER watch her show. ABC has eliminated AMC, One Life, and SoapNet all in less than one year. It’s like they’re obsessed. Start complaining to your cable providers!! There was almost 4 million fans watchibg One Life during its last week. Cooking shows and talk shows will NEVER endure like soaps. I really hate ABC.
“Could someone please explain to me exactly why ABC (the soap killing, shitty network) has to plug Katie’s show into the 3:00 time slot?”
I wish I’d know the answer to that question my friend. Katie’s stupid talk show is not even a network show, it’s a syndicated show. Why does it has to interfere with General Hospital in the first place?
An Oprah she will never be. She couldn’t shine Oprah’s shoes. Who wants to see yet another talk show? She bombs everywhere she goes. She must be keeping someone happy!
That is why we have to boycott KC at all cost! This woman get millions for a below average performance on all fronts. What is wrong with the networks and the people that support KC?
This will be my last post! Tonight I watched two people fighting breast cancer and another friend died today of prostate cancer I have decided to live in realville. People enjoy your soaps I have on and off for thirty years but put them in their right prospective they are a story they are not real life and quit attacking each other. Agree to Disagree! Mr. Fairman many thanks for your site! God Bless!
WOW! If GH gets canceled because of The Revulsion/Katie, I will boycott ABC and their advertisers! I work full time, and my only getaway are my soaps. GH hasn’t been great lately, but Monday’s eppie was delish! I can’t wait to tune in! I will go down to the bitter end. People save our soaps!! Watch online, DVR, watch it live! Watch it on soapnet. We need to let ABC know we matter! For food shows or self help shows, there are plenty of other networks that show that and probably do a better job at it too.. Don’t take over our soaps!
Here, here!!! I totally agree!!!!
Disney/ABC may tell us there are no decisions about the future of GH, but I’m remembering how AMC and OLTL got “the go ahead” for a few more years back about 2010 (w/ new renewal contracts signed, etc.) and the assurance that what was happening over at CBS ? (cancellations of GL and eventually ATWT) would certainly NOT be coming over to ABC. –WRONG!
Why, before we knew it as viewers?….WHAMO ! AMC and OLTL got the ax in 2011 and both chopped out in one fell swoop, too!….noting that these two shows were even AHEAD of GH in their ratings and had been so for awhile! —What logic, huh? VERY suspicious rationale.
I believe, I sincerely believe that even with the outcry of fans over losing AMC and OLTL, Disney/ABC will continue their mission of doing away with daytime soaps.
Oh, they may “move around” GH to another timeslot, who knows, as if to try to improve their afternoon program flow (and surely REVOLUTION will have to go if not taking along CHEW with itl). But, Katie Couric is going to be given every chance to succeed and THAT almost immediately infers GH will HAVE to be moving somewhere. The list of corporate owned stations buying up Katie’s talk show for 3:00PM within the top 100 markets in the U.S. (as mentioned earlier in the lead off story here) tells us….there’s no need to deny it! Something’s gonna happen with GH ! —-In 2012.
I hate to say it directly here, but I think GH ?……….is doomed. There’s a secret plan in the ABC network board room to “finish off the job” of eradicating all soaps with the remaining GH.
(I’m also firguring such high level “talks” are underway too, over at CBS and NBC if truth be known). It’s only a matter of time.
As viewers, we need to accept that the remaining suds of our soaps?….are fast swirling down the drain —right before our very eyes. And, there’s nothing we can do to stop it.
The TPTB at the networks?……. ‘couldn’t care less. How sad.
As consumers, we have the power to destroy ABC! Don’t give up!
I USE TO BE A BIG FAN OF ABC DAYTIME AND PRIMETIME. WHAT IS HAPPENING???? OPRAH IS GONE, NEVER LIKED THE VIEW, AMC AND OLTL WERE AXED. NIGHTIME ABC HAS BECOME ALMOST NONE EXISTENT WITH RIDICULOUS LINE=UPS. I HAVE BEEN WATCHING MORE CBS, NBC, TNT, AND USA SHOWS. I REFUSE TO WATCH THE CHEW OR THE REVOLUTION. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING ABC? AND NOW ANOTHER TALK SHOW?? WITH KATIE WHO I NEVER CARED FOR SINCE SHE LEFT THE TODAY SHOW. BIG BIG MISTAKES ABC!!!
That is why we need to start a movement to boycott KC! She is paid millions for what? BOYCOTT KC!
I don’t trust ABC one bit…..
Totally agree Sarah!!!!
I will be very sad if General Hospital is CANCELLED or moved to ONLINE only… I have been a fan since I was a kid and my mother forever! 🙁 I hope it replaces the REVOLUTION! I love ALL ABC show’s but not that one! Our DVR is filled with ABC based shows. PLEASE KEEP GH!
Could not stand Couric on any network, and never will, least of all if she pushes out GH. Why yet another show full of other peeps beliefs and preferences? We don’t need her or anyone telling us how to think. What we needed and want is some escape from our daily grind, which the soaps gave us. All this meddling is just disgraceful in every way, and insulting to boot!!!
so is GH going to night time for the summer??????
No matter what some people say, I don’t think that ABC has decided yet what it wants to do with General Hospital. Remember that the ratings are not going well for The Revolution (at least they were not last week, I don’t know about this week).
Could never understand Curic’s popularity.
BOYCOTT….KC!
I WILL NEVER WATCH ABC AGAIN
Please keep GH on! I PRONISE I will never, ever watch this Katie Couric show as many of my friends also swear not to! I never break a promise!!!!!!
Don’t and won’t watch any Daytime talking shows, (especially Couric).
Who cares, nobody is going to watch Katie anyway. There is such a thing as an off button ABC.
Katie Couric is an overpaid person! Why would ABC be willing to pay her millions when they want cheap TV show? Oh yeah….ratings….. ABC is full of BS. Please boycott ABC for being such two faced liars!
ABC/D The first step is to admit you have a problem…Katie Couric and all the kings horses and all the kings men will not be able to put ABC daytime back together again. The only thing that keeps me watching ABC is GH and Revenge (another soap!)
WILL NOT WATCH KATIE PERIOD SHE FLOPPED ON CBS NEWS, AND JUST WHAT WE NEED ANOTHER DAYTIME TALK SHOW TO TAKE AWAY OUR SOAPS
IF ABC CANCELS GENERAL HOSPITAL WILL NOT WATCH ANYTHING ON ABC
WHICH BY THE WAY HAVE ALREADY DISCONTINUED ALL PROGRAMING ON ABC NITETIME AND DAYTIME EXEPT GH SINCE THEY CANCELLED MY OTHER SOAPS.
SO ABC ALL I CAN SAY IS YOU BETTER LEAVE GH ALONE BEFORE YOUR WHOLE NETWORK ENDS UP IN THE GARBAGE CAN. YOU MADE BIG MISTAKES CANELLLING AMC AND OLTL BUT DO NOT BE EVEN MORE STUPID AND CANCEL GH BOY THERE MUST BE SOME IDIOTS IN BIG SUITS THAT WORK FOR ABC. ALSO KATIE COURIC SHOULD HAVE STAYED WITH
NBC AND SHE HAS MADE ENOUGH MONEY SHE SHOULD RETIRE FROM TV
ALTOGETHER I MEAN HOW MUCH MONEY DOES SHE NEED
ABC programming is obviously in the wrong hands. I cannot agree more about both daytime and primetime–I used to almost exclusively watch ABC–not anymore. The seem to cancel many of the good shows and substitute subpar shows or put on reruns that are only weeks old. If GH is cancelled, I won’t turn the tv on in the afternoon. I used to watch all three soaps.
The Revolution and The Chew are not worth taking time out of the day to watch, and, for the life of me, I cannot imagine why ABC picked up Katie Couric. She is one of the most boring interviewers on TV. I could not sit through even five minutes with her. I suspect ABC will not survive eventually. It just does not have the leadershp and imagination to compete. ABC obviously does not listen or care about a fanbase.
Multitalented????? At what?
