Kin Shriner Says He’s Been Written Out at GH and Shares: “Thank You General Hospital Fans For Decades of Supporting Me!”

By Michael Fairman

Out of nowhere, long-running General Hospital vet, Kin Shriner, shared on his Twitter account Tuesday morning that the soap opera which he has called home, on and off for 45 years, has written him off the show.

That would mean, coming up in story, Shriner’s Port Charles alter-ego, Scott Baldwin is somehow exiting the canvas.

In his tweet, Shriner expressed:I just found out Scotty was written out, I thank U General Hospital fans for decades of supporting me!”

Many are finding this hard to believe, in part, because back in December of 2021 Shriner tweeted, “Scotty’s run is done, so heading to Florida to ride Vespa around the tropics!”  Eventually, Kin was back at GH.

The last long period of time that Kin was away from GH was a five-year absence until Scott was back in Port Charles in February of 2013.

No word yet from the show itself, confirming the news put out by Shriner.  If this is all said and done, we firmly believe Scott will have to come to Port Charles at some point.

Shriner remains one of the all-time favorites of the iconic soap opera currently celebrating its 60th year on the air.

So, what do you think about Kin stating that he is being written off of GH? Comment below.

Very disappointed to hear about this. I love every scene that he’s in. As a longtime fan of the show, nothing is better than watching veteran actors like him. I hope he’ll be back. I can think of several characters that I wouldn’t miss, but not Scotty Baldwin!!!

Although they keep Alexis on.

She needs to go!

They definitely need to write her character better

If any one should be written out is Nina

Not the character, but the person who plays the role

Agreed.

Agreed.

….And even the Devil himself said “Amen”.

@Irene. No.

So many have stopped watching the show because of her character dragging on & on & on . The writers have ruined Sonny’s character & he is pathetic to watch now, so I DONOT!

Totally agree!! Scotty is an icon. Keep him with the show!!

I was totally hoping that gh would put Scotty and lisel back together.theyre good, cute, funny together, very very funny ,I didn’t think they would have chemistry but they do.. .it was stupid to break them up over him helping his dead son’s Franco , (who GH shouldn’t had never killed off) wife Elizabeth, that he thinks of as a daughter…I guess that was the tell-tell sign of Doom when lisel wouldn’t forgive him … please gh reconsider letting Scotty’s character go…put Scotty and lady love Lisel back together ❣️

Loved those two together! He made her likeable.

I’ve loved Scott since when he married Laura. It’s not right to write him out, unless he agrees with with it. I love him and Leisel together and enjoy his spats with Ava and Robert. It’s like he’s part of the family!

He’s not filmed his last show yet they write months ahead of time he’s still in pier Charles the character time leaves or dies

I find it hard to believe Kin’s departing. He’ll likely go back to Fort Lauderdale for a few months and be back on screen in the fall.

Despite the great audience response, it seems like the writers are putting the breaks on Scott & Liesl. It is refreshing to see the writers attempt romance for some of the senior cast members. Potential couplings for Scott & Liesl, Martin & Lucy and now Robert & Diane are nice ways to take the vets out of work mode and continue to build character.

Liesl, Lucy and Robert have been heavily involved in story for the past 6 months. Was hoping the suing the WSB plot discovered yesterday would lead to heavier story for Scotty.

Enjoy your break, Kin. We know you’ll be back.

I love Scott please bring him back from time to time I have watched him for 45 years MaryHitefield NC

Very disappointed for Scott leaving GH.

I hate that he has been written off. He always seems to get the scraps from GH. Every time he gets a child they get killed off. He finally had a good love interest in which he can’t see what it blossoms to. I am getting really tired of GH and it’s terrible writing, bad casting, bad couples, boring storylines.

As much as I love Kin Shriner, he’s sung this song before. Yes, he will be back. I just wish he was treated with more respect. We need Scotty, especially on the heels of Jackie’s death

Contract negotiation time?

Kin hasn’t been on contract for at least 15 years. Recurring, sometimes more frequent than sporadic.

He’s not on contract.

Keep Scotty and let Nina go or even Portia ( she can’t act anyway)!!! Love Scottu, true GH FAN!!!!❤️❤️❤️‼️‼️‼️

We need a bomb going off….. the time has come to say goodbye to all but Carly & family-extended family! Definitely someone should bomb Sonny’s house w/ Nina inside packing after Sonny finds out what a vile person she is.

I like him with Liesel and Elizabeth and her boys. Hope he winds up coming back.

Very bad decision by writers. So sorry to see him go. Hopefully this mistake will b fixed and they will have him return sooner than later

It’s not usually up to the writers…

Oh no! I can’t believe he’s been let go. Scott Baldwin is a legacy character and though he doesn’t get much screen time, I do enjoy when he is on. All of the story lines as of late with the veteran characters have been great! Fingers crossed this is just a short hiatus for Kin Shriner.

Agreed. He is a smile.

With Bobbie’s upcoming passing and Monica Q beeing MIA, Scott Baldwin is one of the few classic characters still on. It would be a real shame to let him go permanently.
There are tons of unnecessary characters to get rid of instead: Chase, Portia, Valentin etc

I agree! Alexis can be gone and her so called boyfriend. And I really cant see Sam being a part of the show any longer.

Sam and Dante don’t mesh. She has to go. She always looks like she high.

Love Sam; she’s been on the show two decades and has a lot of family and history in Port Charles. She’s a great character! Wish we’d see more of her; not less. As for her and Dante? I think they’re a a great match. I didn’t feel it at first but the more they showed them and the more Sam warmed up to Dante, the more believable they became.

Sam absolutely cannot act & now that she has changed her looks she looks too old for Dante. Sam & Alexis & Molly need to take a long holiday together… So sick of all the storylines so never watch anymore. Hard to pick out the worse storyline because they are all so awful & depressing.

What are they thinking over there lately? Get it together GH!

Yass…can’t stand Portia.

Agree

He’s a Twitter drama queen. He’ll be back. Food me once, shame on you. Fool me twice , shame on me. You aren’t fooling anyone who pays attention. You’re not written off – you’re just trying to get people riled up. Not sure how this behavior will get FV and the writers to want you to drive story…

Don’t get rid on Scotty hell we love him Scotty been in GH for many years I watch him growing up He is just a Beautiful Character Just when he find someone to be in his life a good lawyer LEAVE SCOTTY ON GH PLEASE

You don’t write out legacy characters. Senior statement are important to continuity and to keeping loyal viewers. I accept the stupid stories if they at least engage familiars and favorites. The passing of Jacklyn Zeman and presumably Bobbie Spencer requires every longtime player to be e present.

Totally agree!

That stinks! I love all the old school characters!

I got a bad feeling this may be the beginning of firings and/or contract non renewals? I think budget cuts are coming

Sometime I fear GH’s end is near. Been a fan since 1978

Get a grip he does this ever so often pathetic why can’t we have a minute to miss Jackie before we start with the politics about staying on a soap

Why hasn’t there been a Memorial for Jacklyn?

Writer’s strike. We are watching eps filmed a while back.

GH tapes 2-3 months ahead, so it wouldn’t have aired yet anyway. Under normal circumstances I would expect it to happen in the middle of the summer. The writers strike will impact this of course. I don’t think anybody wants the scabs writing that episode… assuming they go the scab route when they run out of new episodes.

The other pressing issue is the potential for a SAG-AFTRA strike on July 1. After that we might be left with episodes featuring Comet the horse and the Corinthos moss bowl.

They tape 3 wks in advance not months it says it on lotsa sites & says they want to do a good tribute for bobby spencer so might wait till writers strike over they did annouce in writing at end of an episode last wk of jacklyn zeeman death

Depending on the time of year, they shoot anywhere from 3 weeks (usually after their summer and Christmas multi-week hiatuses) to close to 2 months prior to air. Episodes are written 1-2 before shooting.

There was a lovely commercial “General Hospital remembers Jackie Zeaman” that ran the Monday after her death. Was quite impressed they got it (and not just a title card) out that soon.

It may be a while before it’s addressed in story due to writers and pending actors strikes.

He’s a terrible actor so I’m fine with it.

I hope he can come back. I love his scenes. Also, I can’t imagine a Bobbie tribute without him. And to think of him being skipped over during this milestone 60th year. Doesn’t make sense.

Just love Scotty, not just with his Fraulein but with Elizabeth and the kids, especially when Franco was alive. What about the upcoming SL with Cody and suing the WSB? Is that going to be all forgotten?

no loss, he became a caricature, the audience wants realistic characters.

When you say “Eventually, Kin was back at GH.” Well, that means he was right. His run was done. They brought him back later. Maybe sometimes he says it when it turns out not to be true, but considering how many times they’ve written him out, and put him on recurring, I don’t blame him for telling the fans what’s going on and riling them up. They don’t treat some of their legacy characters very well and never have. Where the heck is Monica?

Don’t treat legacy characters well? That was definitely the case over 10 years ago under the previous executive producer. Frank (despite other issues) brought so many legacy characters back into the fold. Laura, Anna and Felicia are on contract. Robert has been heavily involved in story for over six months (heck, he’s got two women interested in him now). Lucy was at the center of an A level story. Mac even has more of storyline than he’s had in years. And, even though it wasn’t perfect overall, the highlight of the Nurses Ball was the touching tribute to Bobbie (airing just a month before Jackie’s passing).

As for Monica, there’s likely something going on with Leslie Charleson that she chooses not to share with the public. Her phone call to Elizabeth during Epiphany’s tribute was a welcome surprise. Is her absence hard to work into story, yes, but it’s better than a recast.

Scott doesn’t need to go any more than Jason needed to go (covid di agreement&all)!! Their characters bring COLOR and Xtra drama to the GH routine drama

Scott Will definitely be back for a memorial for Bobby (Jackie Zeman) if they write her death into the story. Other than that, there is always story for Scott as an attorney and longtime character on the show. I have always been a Scotty fan and believe Kin Shriner is a fan favorite.

I can think of a 1/2 a dozen others. I would rather see go….he’s a definitely my favorite

What is GH thinking???

This just doesn’t make sense to me. In a recent episode, Scotty talked to Cody about suing the WSB for the loss of the Ice Princess Diamond neckless and representing Cody for the theft of Gladys’ bracelet at the Nurses’ Ball. That sounds like a storyline taking off ~ and I don’t mean off a cliff as him being written off would indicate. And what about his love story with Liesl? Though she’s still rejecting him, there was hope offered that she’d change her mind in their latest scenes. Just doesn’t make sense. He’s not a burden, he’s not on contract and has threads throughout the canvas. Hope this isn’t true at all.

Ohhhh!!! He will be missed. I love his punchlines

Quit taking off. People that have been on the show for years , leave them on. That’s what makes general hospitalgood , why you’re at it Go get Steve …. Jason backkkkk

Very very unhappy about Kin Shriner leaving GH! He is one of my favorites!! I really think they are making a huge mistake! Time will tell…continue to lose our favorite actors and it wont be a good result….just sayin!

I am sorry to see him go as I am a LONG TIME ⌛️ GH fan. I remember when he started. But, come on…he is same old boring as ever and hasn’t had a good role since 30 yrs ago. God Bless Jacki (Bobbi) but both were the most boring actors on. They were the perfect pair back in the day. Toodles

This the third time in three years he’s made this claim. He’ll be back. Story likely is not there for him at this time.

Oh that is so sad. I love his character. They always need a lawyer!! Too bad!!

Yeah, he’s written off long enough to take his Summer vacation. He makes this statement annually. It’s funny how people keep falling for it. I think he enjoys seeing the reactions!

He’s a funny guy and will be missed. Like a friend in real life, always there when you need him.

I have watched the show since the very first time general hospital started . Scotty has been a big big part of gh. Show won’t be the same. Hope the writers have a enough sense to bring you back you will be missed.

Well I can’t say I am not surprised by this news..but I am seriously disappointed but gh really is messing up a lot lately we are loosing alot really great actors it’s sad I hope the writers know what they are doing or they will loose a lot viewers

I think, along with many other poor decisions, the writers or the directors of General Hospital have made, this is one of the worst! The first one is when they wrote off Jax and Jason during Covid, because of the of the jab! And now the truth comes to light about the jab not working anyway. They lost the best male actors of the show then and now they’re getting rid of another one that brings humor and a different light to the show! It’s a sad day on the decline of General Hospital because of poor decision making.

Ummm there’s a writers strike going on! EVERYONE is writen out right now!! Lol

I feel a a loss to many of us that watch the soap primarily due to characters that have grown with us through familiar spikes in life. I especially enjoy him playing and making Scotty a believable funny, wise slick attorney and admire his lovstruck charm. Too many losses too soon for that show as of late.

He is a gem! I wish they could have used him more like they do with Genie Francis!

I hope this is a joke because we love you playing Scott Baldwin I can’t see anyone else but you I hope this is not true

Don’t write him out he is a great comedic actor.

I’m saddened..and that’s Crazy!! but I hope GH change their mind about letting him go..Scott was Always amusing and I like his sense of humor

Why I love him.

He be back for Bobbie funeral he had alot of stories with her

Do not write out Kin Shriner he has been a part of GH family for 45 years I’m asking you to keep him part of GH family The viewers are so use to seeing him act on GH why would you want to get rid of him now I remember when Scotty and Laura was married on GH before Laura married Luke listen to the viewers and keep him thank you

Ruining the soap for me

I won’t miss him. Always GROUCHY and BOSSY!

Gives me one more reason to quit watching this failing soap opera

Sad to see another long time cast member leaving.

I have to say GH decisions have been awful for the past year. Let’s start with the storylines. Sunny & Nina, Carly & Drew, Willows sickness and the hook killer. Now to casting. The recast of Nicholas, Nina, Trina, Drew, are horrible and not believable. Now there are no more villains. We have more police and detectives on the show ever before. The last storyline that was worth watching on GH was Sonny’s fathers Alzheimer’s disease. There are great actors on GH who aren’t given good stories to tell. GH get your act together.

I can’t help but wonder if this has something to do with the writers strike… Or maybe the General Hospital budget… Because getting rid of one of its most historical characters is absolutely ridiculous. kin Shriner knows how to bring it.

Like all recurring actors, Kin only gets paid for the episodes in which he appears. There’s no savings to be made unlike contract actors who have guarantees and benefit packages. The EP (Frank) has a “fixed budget” for salaried/contract performers and crew and a separate bucket for recurring, guest and extras. With his seniority, Kin might command a larger day rate, but there’s no real savings by “writing out” a recurring character.

He’s playing semantics with his Twitter followers (which as Michael mentions, he’s done before).

Noooooo I adore Scott, he’s got so much personality… more than most on the show. He is fun, exciting, unpredictable and intelligent. Do not lose Scott Baldwin. He gives my soap pizazz

If anyone should be written off it should be Jocelyn

I like Scot Baldwin he is part of general hospital. Its wrong for the big guys on top to do this.

No!!! You need to keep the long timers to anchor the show and various storylines! Without them the history of the show is lost. Scottie adds a comical dimension the show needs to keep it from being one dimensional and dark. Taking away any of the “original” cast also takes away several generations of watchers.
Bad move on GH’s part.
