KISH gets the ax – OLTL writes off Kyle and Fish!

Courtesy/ABC

In breaking news today, One Life to Live has made the decision to end their same-sex storyline of KISH, better known as Kyle Lewis and Oliver Fish.  Actors, Brett Claywell and Scott Evans have been let-go.  TV Guide Magazine broke the terrible and disheartening news for the LGBT community and fans of the on-screen couple.  OLTL’s executive producer, Frank Valentini made this statement “We are concluding the story that we set out to tell with Kyle and Fish. We are very proud to have broken new ground with a same-sex couple on daytime.”

According to the report, even though KISH has been a big success with the media and gay-advocacy groups have shown favor to One Life to Live’s efforts,  the  ABC Television Network says the duo failed to resonate with the mainstream audience, referencing Fish’s coming out story as one reason for tanking the ratings.

The TV Guide item feature also gave details that on the upcoming March 29 episode, Fish will learn that he’s the biological father of baby Sierra Rose, and with all the  rumblings of a custody battle with Gigi looming,  the law will be on Fish’s side and the two dads will start a new life with the little bundle of joy.  Making this all the more shocking is that Scott Evans tweeted today the following, after the news broke.  “Anyone who thought my tweets were foreshadowing, that is not the case.  Tweets were for something completely different. This is news to me.” And, one more little item, One Life is nominated for the GLAAD Award to be handed out this Saturday.  If they were to win, and they just let-go their same-sex couple, how will that look?

Come back tomorrow to On-Air On-Soaps for a special video interview with Brett and Scott taped just last week in New York!

Feel so bad about this news…
As a straight female viewer, I really like Kish storyline and the actors’ acting. It is a purely love story to me … it is an honest, real and romantic relationship between man and man.
Through the Kish story, I started knowing the society that I would never have a chance to know. And thinking about gay marriage/equal right that I have never thought before…
Will say byebye to OLTL when Kish leaves…

I only watched OLTL for Kish. After they are gone, there is no reason to watch anymore. I do not buy OLTL reasoning.

Alas, I don’t believe that it is OLTL’s reasoning/excuses but ABC’s. And it’s just Kish that are going around that Sierra Mist s/l. Also off the page (already gone is the character of Stacey), exiting are: Schyler and Rachel. And soon to be Kim (though that is the actress’s agents who no longer want her on soaps). The only ones remaining from that storyline will be Rex, Gigi and their son.

OLTL is getting to the end of that baby storyline – finally. Really sad to see Kish go, as it’s another gay/lesbian storyline out of mainstream media. The only ‘current’ gay storyline will be ATWT’s Nuke (Noah/Luke) – but only until Sept when that series goes off air.

At least, like GL’s Otalia, at least Kish will have a happy ending of their storyline.

actually, they took the kid who plays Rex and Gigi’s son off contract…so you’ll see even less of him now, not that he was on it a lot anyway…they weem to have forgotten they have their own bio kid!

This is a big disapppointment. What a bunch of cowards ABC is. They are throwing out a great storyline and two wonderful perfomers. Unless they change their minds, this longtime viewer (since just after the show went on the air) will stop watching.

I haven’t watched soaps since jr. hi (the 70s) but I have been feverishly following this story line since I heard about it (and caught up on missed shows via YouTube.) I’ve also made plans to attend the Bway Cares Event next weekend. It was smart, well written, superbly acted. This story about two people becoming the love of their lives (and ours) was inspirational….the rest of the show is about rapists, murders, and adulterers…same old stuff that’s been on for decades that I refused to watch in the past. I will NOT continue watching or supporting ABC if they are taken off the show.

It would be sad if people disgusted by the end of KISH only stopped their OLTL support. We should take a step further and target any company related to the “Disney experience”…

I surfed the internet yesterday and realized there was a LOT of those companies and subsidiaries that could be boycotted or flooded with e-mails. Just go to the following website :
corporate.disney.go.com/corporate/overview.html

Since Big Brother Mickey is soooo unproud of a gay family storyline, make him realize you’re not out anymore, you’re in for the fight and the glory of KISH !

I have been watching OLTL on and off for 30 years and am deeply saddened by ABC and Brian Frons decision to axe the Kish storyline – they were the only thing keeping me watching OLTL these days. The “gay” storyline kept this MAINSTREAM viewer watching.

Scott Evans & Brett Claywell’s acting was amazing, as was their storyline. ABC has made a big mistake with this move. If they think getting rid of Kyle & Fish and allocating more funds to bring back Thorsten Kaye as Patrick will keep this fan around, well, OLTL is sadly mistaken. When Kish goes in mid-April, I go, and this time I won’t be back until Kyle & Fish come back.

Are they nuts? They are cutting this story off at the knees! I am stunned. I can’t believe ABC is so narrow minded, and I don’t buy their explanation. Fans are really going to be disappointed. I wanna barf……

I don’t buy Mr. Valentini’s “excuse” that Kish was not popular among mainstream viewers. To the contrary, what caused OLTL’s bad ratings was Dorian faux lesbian storyline and the gay PSAs that Mr. Carlivati tried to “attach” to the Kish storyline and shove in people’s faces. As a 57-year-old married female, I found Kish to be one of the best storylines to hit daytime in many years. A true love story between two beautiful people. I have been a lifetime viewer of OLTL, but NO MORE! Kish was the only reason I was even sticking around in the first place. Scott Evans and Brett Claywell are two of the best actors to hit daytime in many years. To blame THEM for poor ratings is a COP-OUT! If anything, they brought in millions of new viewers. One only has to visit YouTube to see the millions of “hits” Kish has had both nationally and internationally to see their popularity. This really smells of Brian Frons. ABC should fire HIM. And to think FV or RC didn’t even have the decency or the cahonies to personally tell these two young men they were being let go makes me ill. They had to read it in the media with everyone else! As a lifetime viewer of OLTL, I am DONE with this soap for good! The stench of it totally makes me SICK! I will continue to watch Kish clips on YouTube regularly. I will never watch OLTL again! God bless you Scott Evans and Brett Claywell for bringing this storyline to life and for putting so much of yourselves and your hearts and souls into it. You are two of the best young actors to come along in many years! I will dearly miss seeing Kish, but look forward to seeing both of you again in other projects. Believe me, OLTL is the BIG LOSER here! They just aren’t smart enough to realize it!

I only started watching last year when I heard about the Oliver/Kyle storyline, now I also have no reason to watch. I think they are going to loose a lot more viewers than they think.

It’s certainly another sad day for the LGBT community. I’ve never watched the show, but having seen what happened…or more to the point, what didn’t happen with Otalia, I’m not surprised by this sad development. My thoughts are with the actors concerned, whom I’m sure put their heart and soul into playing this pairing.

I am a long time middle aged female viewer of OLTL and this news has absolutely broken my heart….i adore this couple and Brett Claywell and Scott Evans have done an absolutely phenomonal job of portraying Kyle and Oliver in a realistic and believable way….they share such an amazing chemistry that its impossible not to fall in love with them…this has been the most beautiful and romantic love story i have ever seen in all my years of watching soaps and ABC/OLTL is making a monumental mistake in ending it and losing the two most talented and deserving actors on the show if not all of daytime…..my heart goes out to Brett and Scott for the shabby way they have been treated they deserve much better and so do their loyal fans…the day that they leave is the day that i leave too. never to return unless they do…..I will forever remain a loyal fan of this wonderful couple…….its kish forever….

KISH was killing the shows ratings. Can’t sell a homosexual couple, two men in bed having sex to a TV audience that is at least 95% heterosexual and 97% female! That was the arrogance of OLTL’s
homosexual head writer Ron Carlivati and Brian Frons let him do it! I stopped watching the show,
it was too repulsive but loved watching the ratings crash lower each week!

im pretty sure the ratings were in the toilet before KISH came so be like ABC throwing the rock and hiding your hand!

Funny how all the message boards around the soap community overwhelmingly condemn the firing of Scott and Brett and the dismantling of the KISH storyline. As one of your 95% and 97% demographic, I find it utterly appalling that they are cancelling this storyline.
But thanks for your unsubstanciated information and your obvious homophobic attitude, Patrice. I bet Todd Manning…you know, the rapist…is your fav character, isn’t it?

This really sucks!!! I am a straight female viewer and I absolutely love Kish. They are so cute and i have loved watching their story unfold. I actually don’t know anyone who watches OLTL that doesn’t like this pairing so I really don’t buy that they didn’t resonate with viewers. I am extremely disappointed in the powers that be at OLTL for backtracking out of this story… they are one of my favorite pairings on the show. I wish Brett Claywell and Scott Evans all the best and hope to see them soon on another soap, preferably together. Perhaps Llanview’s loss can be some other fictionally city’s gain, perhaps Genoa City??? It’s about time Y&R got back to their time forward story telling that has been lacking for so long. Kish will truly be missed!

I’m very saddened, shocked, and dissapointed that TIIC has fired SE and BC from OLTL!!! The reason that they axed them is totally RIDICULOUS and MORONIC!!!!! It totally was not their fault the ratings went down because of the kish gay s/l. It was REALLY because of the Stacy “Fiasco” Morasco s/l that flushed the ratings down the toilet!!!! I’m also PISSED that they failed to ever offer SE a full-term contract with the show!!! WTH OLTL!!!!!!!

The story of Kish is a wunderfull story and the only reason I watch OLTL. The 2 characters are doing such a great job and are a joy to see together. I am not so much interested in a bible thumping rapist or a mobster who thinks he is above the law and get away with everything. When Kish leaves I will stop watching OLTL, especially after you have to read that they did not had the decency to let Scott and Brett know about this and they have to find out like the rest of us through the internet.
Thank god for You Tube so we can always see the Kish storyline and for European soaps who are not so afraid of the viewers who don’t like a certain storyline

Blatant HOMOPHOBIA.

ABC should once again hang its head in shame.

i like many others only tuned in to watch OLTL because of KISH. this is heartbreaking and it feels like someone took a knife to my gut! I have cried, drank, and i listened to their song all night. to say that they were the reasons for the ratings tanking is absurd! they brought in a lot of viewers including me. after mid-April i will be done with OLTL and give my full attention to you tube. ABC set out to portray to love story between two people and did not make it half-way! WTH????

I would like to have seen Kish bring home Sierra and show the issues of 2 gay men trying to raise a baby. It’s not something we see on TV and that would have been interesting to watch.

I, too, was hoping that KISH could become a core family while they raise little Sierra Rose. Fish works for the PD and Kyle for the hospital. Why do they have to leave? I will join the consensus and also quit watching when they leave. My other favorite characters are David, Roxy and Rex, but it is not enough for this blatant Homophobia or lobbyists. It smells of somebody being in sombody’s pocket. I may even just quit soaps altogether after this.

This truly bites! What does the term “mainstream” infer, and who would be considered mainstream? This just doesn’t make any sense to me, but I myself would blame the tanking ratings on multiple rapist who has half the women in town chasing after him. I know critics love TSJ Todd, but on the boards he (and John) are almost universally loathed, and yet they are always front and center. Just once I would like to be in one of these focus groups, or know someone who has been in one.

OLTL longevity is clearly waning by the day!

I started watching OLTL once I found out about this storyline. I knew of the actors and I was really interested to see how the story played out. As a 21 year old straight female, I guess I would be what Ron Carlivati calls “mainstream audience.” But that doesn’t seem to matter. They are taking off one of the best relationships I have ever witnessed. I feel kind of silly for this, but when things in my life were extremely difficult to deal with, I would look forward to KISH days on OLTL. I loved to see them interacting and see the way their relationship strengthened. When I found out they would be written off, I was really hurt. I have been following these two guys for so long that I got attached, probably too attached for them being a fictional couple. But their emotions seemed so real that it was impossible not to love them. Once they leave, as many other fans will agree, I am done with the show. I can live without all of the same boring storylines with the same boring people. Thank you to Brett Claywell and Scott Evans for their amazing work!

I wholeheartedly echo what is being said in the comments. (most of them anyway) I am part of the mainstream viewership as a 40 year old, married, mother, and I live in the midwest. As the so-called mainstream viewer I can say the only reason I watched the show was for the wonderful KISH story. The talented actors have amazing chemistry, it is a beautifully written story, so much better than just about anything else on daytime television. I am sickened and disgusted by ABC television to blame the low ratings on this pair. I too will bid OLTL goodbye after mid-April. Best of luck to both Brett Claywell and Scott Evans, you have both gained a lifelong fan. Thank you both so much for bringing this characters to life.

The blame lies with the bad writing, OLTL’s political agenda and Scott Evans’s acting. A major part of why Kish didn’t work is bec Evans is a talentless, goofy actor not at par w/ Claywell. Evans is a major factor in Kish not working bec he plays Fish. For gay chars, the acting is all the more crucial since they’re a harder sell. That’s how it is, they have to overcome the audience being potentially uninterested or against them. So casting the right, talented actors is all the more impt. They got it right w/ Claywell, but not with Evans. I guess even in Daytime cute can only go so far. Evans actually began w/ ok/decent perfs like the “Don’t call me Oliver” scene. But he got worse when Sumpter and Fumero were thrown in there in the apt scenes. Evans’s acting was so cheesey when Fish delivered his preachy monlogues against the homophobes at the wedding. And Evans’s was so cringeworthy when Fish confronted that cop at the popo headquarters who he thought was a homophobe.

It’s Claywell’s acting which carried this pairing, but OLTL pimped the wrong guy. OLTL clearly tried to capitalize on him by casting his mother (talk about nepotism), using his out status (courtesy of his famous brother) and his famous last name to garner press for Kish. Evans made the rounds solo (instinct, welovesoaps, out, advocate) and with Claywell (this website). Claywell is the far better actor, but OLTL thought Evans would generate more interest, and thus more ratings, based on his background. It’s interesting that Bierdz (ex-Philip, Y&R) and Evans are 2 out actors who ironically can’t bring any authenticity to gay male roles. The soaps should cast talent over out status when casting for actors to play lgbtq roles.

Carlivati’s writing: Where to begin? Kish never seemed to come from an organic place. They seemed to be thrown together and a frat backstory was created (probably Carlivati’s fantasy, LOL). The political issues like mass same sex unions is just not kosher, and to have it on a frothy soap, it doesn’t work. But the mass wedding and Dorian’s scheme were integral for Fish to come out, for Kish to declare their love, and to be topical (Prop 8, homophobia) while being a first on Daytime to have mass same sex unions. Kish was too tied to these political issues. It also didn’t help that Kish isn’t from a core family, unlike ATWT’s Luke, or related to the leading lady character of the soap, like AMC’s Bianca.

I don’t think Carlivati and Valentini will be blamed by the soap press for Kish since they’re never blamed for anything that doesn’t work on OLTL. They’re pretty much untouchable, especially Carlivati, regardless of Stacy. I don’t think TVG’s Michael Logan, Nelson Branco, the gays that run welovesoaps, etc would ever criticize Carlivati, the only out gay headwriter, for the Kish fiasco. So yes the writing, meaning Carlivati, is to blame for the political overtones of Kish. TVG’s Logan’s “gay overkill” comment is probably the closest thing to indirectly calling out Carlivati’s bad writing for Kish, but now everyone’s screaming off w/ Brian Frons’s head and ABC’s homophobic. If that were true, there’d be no Bianca on AMC or no Kish to begin with on OLTL.

How can people say Kish is being used as “scapegoats” when Crystal Hunt was fired first? Stacy was written out before Kish. They’re getting rid of storylines and characters that don’t work, so Kish isn’t being made to be the scapegoats and Kish isn’t being “victimized” by the network and by homophobes. They and Stacy were given storylines, those storylines didn’t translate to ratings, so they’re out.

Soaps can make gay characters work. But they need to cast good actors. If the soap press should “go after” anyone, it’s Brad Bell. He has autonomy, he’s EP and Headwriter, he owns B&B, it’s the number 1 soap on the planet, he can do whatever he wants on B&B, and Bell has never written a gay char. Yet it’s set in LA and in the fashion business! How ridiculous is that? B&B has never been good with racial or sexual diversity, but no one dares to take Brad Bell to task in the soap media bec he’s a Bell and he has power. Brad Bell’s tired excuse is the 30 minute format. If he had the balls to make Felicia bisexual, w/c the show has hinted at in the past, a same sex rel would work bec LK’s a great actress. Kim Zimmer was rumored to join B&B in a role w/c would pair her with SF. LK being paired with KZ would most likely be a hit with the audience bec KZ and LK can rise above any crap Brad Bell writes.LK and KZ are talented unlike Evans.

If I didn’t know better, I would think you were likely Brian Frons brother! Too bad you don’t know half of what you are talking about. To say OLTL “pimped” Scott Evans over Brett Claywell is unbelievable. OLTL doesn’t PIMP any of their cast. Scott was vigorously sought after by the media for interviews, comments, etc. because he is an openly gay man playing a gay character. Brett isn’t, although he has also attended many of these interviews and other events WITH Scott because he is very supportive of Scott and the entire gay community. He has also become very good friends with him as well. And to say Scott hangs out in gay bars 24/7 is ludicrous. Yes, I’m sure he goes to gay bars occasionally with friends just as others go to bars. That being said, if you ever check his twitter page, you will see that most evenings he is studying lines for the next day, watching TV and just hanging out with his roommates. He even makes it a point to go to bed early when he has an early 7:30 a.m. call in for work. He has been with the show for two years as a recurring character. If he were holding up production at any time, they would have gotten rid of him long ago BEFORE he and Brett ever became Kish.

Furthermore, Scott’s acting is wonderful, as is Brett’s. (Even Brett lauds Scott’s acting and talks about how wonderful he is to work with). It is the chemistry between the two of them that has made the whole Kish storyline so successful. They have the utmost respect for each other, and both have said they wouldn’t want to do the Kish storyline with anyone else but each other. BOTH Scott and Brett are incredible actors, better than almost all of the others on daytime TV in my opinion. Both can make me laugh, cry, ache with pain, and literally break my heart in some of their scenes.

Yes, people do blame Brian Frons because BF has his dirty little hands in everything, whether they are welcome or not. This whole Kish firing mess totally smells of Brian Frons. Personally, with AMC bringing back a new Bianca, maybe Mr. Frons doesn’t want Kish on the canvas because they would be in direct competition with the new Bianca. Kish has become a national and international phenomonen, whether you like it or not. If you don’t think that is the case, then check out how many hits their scenes from OLTL have garnered on YouTube ….. Millions ……. and they are still going strong. Mr. Carlivati might write the scripts, but Scott and Brett are the ones that brought them to life and made people fall in love with them (except you, of course).

The timing of all of this totally smells of Brian Frons. Eden Riegel jumps to another soap. A day or two later, AMC announced they are bringing the Bianca character back with a new actress, and then a few days after that, Kish gets the axe. Sounds like Mr. Frons wants the competition out of the way so he can claim to have the only “gay” couple on soaps. And we all know Brian Frons loves GH and AMC, and hates OLTL. The success of Kish probably irked the hell out of him because I’m sure he likely thought they would fail. Well, it turned out just the opposite (thanks to the two best actors on daytime TV). And let’s face it, Mr. Frons has never liked gays on soaps, EXCEPT the AMC lesbian storyline. Obviously, he LIKES the girl on girl stuff and finds it much more entertaining to watch. Yes, that definitely sounds like Brian Frons to me. And I would be willing to bet his hands are all over this whole mess!

Brian Frons’s brother? LOL! I’m not even caucasian! There’s no way I’m related to him. I don’t even know him. I’m a fan of the Daytime genre as everyone else is on here. It’s really strange how paranoid and full of conspiracy theories the fans of Kish are.

Of course shows “pimp” their actors when they let their actors promote their shows. Why the heck would they send actors to events or let them talk to the press? To promote their shows of course. Naturally someone like Scott Evans would generate interest from not only soap press, but from mainstream media, because he’s an out actor and he has a famous last name. However, like his brother Chris Evans, they’re both only handsome with no talent to back it up.

I don’t follow his twitter, and anyone can put anything on twitter. But til any soap website delivers the scoop of who it is between the 2 actors that allegedly parties too much and holds up production, my guess is Scott Evans based on his interview here that he goes to gay bars.

It’s really strange how Kish fans are still blaming Brian Frons or these so called right wing grps that are so powerful that they can get actors fired when TVGC already reported that it is Frank Valentini, OLTL’s EP, who axed Evans and Claywell. And the theory that Frons thinks Kish will compete with bianca is so out there. Hello? They’re on the same network! AMC isn’t in a competiting time slot w/ OLTL. The youtube hits can never be accurate since obsessed people can repeatedly view the Kish clips, and youtube clips don’t translate to actual network ratings. But the Neilsens are a completely diff can of worms in itself. If Kish was really such a strong presence, then they wouldn’t have been removed. The bottom line is money for any business. SO if Kish was bringing in the ratings and the money, they wouldn’t have been let go, whether you like it or not.

And your other theory that Brian Frons wants to have the only same sex couple on Daytime is even stranger because ATWT has Nuke. Prior to ATWT going off the air, other soaps could or could not create same sex couples. As for your claims that Frons hates OLTL, how strange is that? OLTL just moved to the AMC studios w/c is considered an upgrade. That’s a weird way to treat a soap he “hates”. As for your claims that he never liked Kish and only likes lesbians, I wouldn’t know since I don’t know him personally. But yes Frons must dislike gays since Kish was allowed to be on OLTL (sarcasm) and homophobia is always to blame for Kish being written off OLTL (more sarcasm).

Well, you better check your facts next time around instead of “judging” first. Soap sites are now indicating that it was, in fact, Brett Claywell who caused the commotion and filming interruptions on-set, NOT Scott Evans! Apparently Brett partied a little too hard when he had friends in town visiting the night before. At least that is the story that is being given. That being said, personally I highly doubt if it was EITHER of them. I think they are both the ultimate professionals and both take their work very seriously (as has been stated by several of the older cast members who work with both of them and think very highly of their talent and professionalism). Roscoe Born had nothing but praise for Scott Evans and his work, along with Melissa Archer and Bree Williamson, and he has been around the medium for many, many years. Erika Slezak and Robin Strasser have both also had much praise for Scott and Brett and the work they have done on the show. To be honest, I think the whole “caused problems in filming” crap is just another smokescreen to take the heat off of Frank Valentini. In fact, it’s almost a joke that this would even come up.

Mr. Valentini has no room to judge anyone’s professionalism when he didn’t even have the balls to call these two young men into his office and tell them they were being let go (fired) from the show. They got the news the same way all of the rest of us did …… in the news media! Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! Even Crystal Hunt and Scott Clifton were given much advanced prior notice before being let go. Scott and Brett were just totally blindsided by this. That’s the thanks they got for making Kish the best gay storyline in the history of daytime. JMHO You have your opinion, I have mine!

How interesting that it’s Claywell who is allegedly the hard partier that caused disruptions on the set. Then it’s all the more logical to write out Kish if Claywell was allegedly the problem since Claywell is Kish. Claywell’s acting is what’s making the pairing work since Evans is sub subpar in acting. If there’s no Claywell, there’s no Kish. The soap press is not going after Frank Valentini at all or the soap press is not going after Valentini with the same intensity as they went after ATWT’s Goutman and GL’s Wheeler. The soap press, for a prolonged period of time, went after Goutman and criticized him for the Nuke kissing banishment. The soap press practically crucified Wheeler for not letting Otalia show enough affection and for not letting Otalia marry in the GL finale. Some soap press even brought Wheeler’s Mormon background into the criticism. Goutman and Wheeler did not get rid of their same sex couples but Valentini did. Yet, the soap press is not going after Valentini, and there’s an obvious reason there.

When Kish is gone, so am I.

I think One Life to Live is making the biggest mistake ever. I look forward to every show and Love Kish. They are great. I think the shows rating will fall after this happens. After all these month of getting everyone use to the idea of a gay male couple, people fell in love with these guys and now they want to get rid of the story. So much more can be done with these characters. LOVE THEM Shame on One Life to Live. I vote KISH all the way. Please don’t destroy them

I AM SO BUMMED THE OTLT WOULD LET KISH GO. I LOVE THE STORY LINE. THERE WAS SO MUCH STORY TO TELL WITH BABY SIERRA ROSE. ANOTHER SOAP TO FALL UNDER THE PRESSURE OF MEDIA. OLTL IS MY FAVORITE SOAP. I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU WOULD LET GO OF SUCH A SUPER COUPLE.

The benefit is set for May 4th in Glendale, California. Slated to participate are Genie Francis, Jane Elliot, Peter Bergman, Maurice Benard, Eileen Davidson, Thorsten Kaye, Michelle Stafford, Stephen Nichols, Rena Sofer, Jason Thompson, Kelly Monaco, Melissa Claire Egan, Maura West, Kristina Wagner, Gregory Harrison, Trevor St. John, Kate Mansi, Kirsten Storms, Cynthia Watros, and many others.

On Wednesday, Grahn took to her social media and released an “I’ll be there” video shout-out featuring, Monaco, Elliot, Bergman, Bernard, West, Harrison, St. John and more. In a touching and important moment in the new video, Michelle Strogny, who is battling ALS, is featured.

Previously, in speaking with Soap Opera Digest on the impetus of the event, Grahn recalled, “I was actually doing Zoom events during Covid and I met this woman that I just fell in love with, Michelle Strojny. At the time, Michelle had been living with ALS for four years. Now, it’s five years. She is a mom of a teenage son, she has the most wonderful husband, and she has been dealing with this [disease] for quite a while. And obviously, there isn’t a cure yet. It’s not survivable yet. But as she says, it’s not incurable. Nothing is; it’s underfunded. But anyway, I just really dug this woman. She is so grounded and filled with grace, and she spends all of her time working to raise money for the cause. We did a fundraiser for her last year and then I thought, ‘You know what? The soaps don’t ever get together to do something for charity.’ Collectively, we have this amazing community and we don’t collectively use it for a good cause, and I think it’s such an easy thing for us to do and we could potentially really make a difference.”

As GH viewers know, Gregory Harrison is playing the character of Gregory Chase, who is also battling ALS in a touching storyline that is currently playing out shedding a light on this disease.

‘General Hospital’ Writer Shannon Peace Let Go, and Shares on Sprina: “One of My Only Regrets is to Not Have the Opportunity to Develop That ‘Ship’ Further”

As General Hospital’s new head writing team of Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahy gets off the ground and running, there are still changes a foot on the writing team.

Now comes word via breakdown writer Shannon Peace that she is no longer on contract with the long-running ABC soap heading into its 61st season. Peace shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram, thanking the fans, and the show for the opportunity and the importance of diversity in the writers room.

Peace began, “After almost 3 years on staff and 106 episodes penned, I am no longer on contract with General Hospital. Writing for this country’s longest running television serial drama has been an education of epic proportions; I will forever be grateful that I earned my WGA card on a daytime fixture that holds memories for so many.” (Peace pictured below with GH EP Frank Valentini and script writer, Charlotte Gibson from about ten months ago).

Shannon added “Even more importantly, as the sole Black breakdown writer (and only POC in the writers room) during my tenure, I pushed for vital interactions and discussions that prioritized inclusion, visibility, and representation”

The writer pointed to the example of vital interaction when in story, “Stella and Portia’s frank July 2022 conversation about the role race played in Esme’s framing of Trina is just one example of the impact I’m gratified to have had.”

Acknowledging former GH co-head writers was also part of Peace’s farewell expressing, “Appreciation to my former bosses, Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor – not only taking a chance on me, but for valuing my opinion and championing my voice.”

Many GH fans know that Peace was key to the development of the love story between Trina Robinson and Spencer Cassadine as played by Tabyana Ali and Nicholas Chavez. Shannon gave a special shout-out to ‘Sprina’ fans, “I also want to thank fans who were supportive of my work, especially the recognition of my love for ‘Sprina’. One of my only regrets is not having to develop that ‘ship’ further.”

She concludes her statement with,”In the aftermath of a historic writer’s strike that shed new light on the troubling ways writers are regarded in daytime, my sincere hope is that General Hospital recommits to valuing staff writer efforts and input, with a more intentional focus on diverse viewpoints — and thrives for another 60 years.”

Accompanying her post, Shannon added, “Thank you all for the love and support these last few years. I hope GH fans get all they hope for and more!”

So, what do you think about GH not renewing Shannon’s contract? Will there be more continued changes afoot? What do you think is the future of ‘Sprina’ anyway at this point as viewers wait to see if Nicholas Chavez officially returns to the show?  Comment below.
