Kristen Wiig's Emotional Send-Off on the Season Finale of SNL!

If you caught last night’s season finale of Saturday Night Live with host Mick Jagger, you saw a great show which featured the Rolling Stone rocker and funny gal mainstay, Kristen Wiig!  But what many did not know was this was to be Wiig’s last episode of SNL as she is leaving the series after seven years.

Though NBC had made no prior announcement of Kristen’s  departure, it comes as no surprise.  Wigg has starred in and co-wrote the hit comedy Bridesmaids, and even before that had notable roles in Friends With Kids, Paul, Adventureland and Knocked up among other films.  She has six more in various stages of development.

Wigg, whose limitless ability and unbelievable comedic timing and characterizations made her one of the all-time most popular performers in the history of SNL.  In the final segment of the season finale, it was time for Wiig’s emotional farewell which used a graduation premise to send her off in style.   As Arcade Fire played “She’s a Rainbow,” Wiig danced with each of her castmates in turn and tried to hold back tears.   She seemed particularly choked up when Bill Hader and Jason Sudeikis cut in.  Finally, SNL leader Lorne Michaels had the last dance, and then the band segued into “Ruby Tuesday.”   Jagger, the band, and the cast sang the wistful tune together, joined by a few SNL vets: Amy Poehler Rachel Dratch and Chris Kattan as Wiig waved goodbye to the studio audience and those at home.

Of note, it has been reported that Andy Samberg and Jason Sudeikis are also expected to not return next season, although no official announcement has been made on that either!   Now after the jump watch the touching final segment with Wiig with her co-stars paying tribute to her and let us know if you will miss her talents on SNL!

I Didn’t catch on at first that Kristen was leaving the show, but it was a great send-off. She is an outstanding actress and probably the best comedian to ever be on SNL. She will be sorely missed, Good luck in Hollywood Kristen. Lookin forward to your new movies…
