(WATCH) Melody Thomas Scott, Peter Bergman and Josh Griffith Share Speeches at Y&R’s 13,000th Episode Celebration
This week on Wednesday, November 13th, The Young and the Restless will air its 13,000th episode of the long-running and top-rated daytime drama series. On-screen viewers will watch the wedding of Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) and Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) play out with fan favorite returns and plenty of drama.
Off-screen, Y&R celebrated this impressive milestone with an on set celebration where cast, crew, creatives, the media, and executives from Sony and CBS, gathered to share in the excitement of the accomplishment while patting each other on the backs for a job well-done.
Three speeches were delivered by three key figures to pay tribute to the ongoing and continued success of Y&R. They were cast members, Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman) Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott), and the current executive producer and head writer of the soap opera, Josh Griffith.

Melody started the proceedings, sharing, “The number 13 has a strong presence here today. I was recently told that Peter Bergman and I are part of a group of 13 actors who made their Y&R debuts 30 years ago or longer. So, if you will indulge me, I would like you to join me in giving a round of applause to: Peter Bergman, Eric Braeden (Victor), Kate Linder (Esther), Eileen Davidson (Ashley), Beth Maitland (Traci), Tracy Bregman (Lauren), Lauralee Bell (Christine), Jess Walton (Jill), Christian LeBlanc (Michael), my baby boy, Joshua Morrow (Nick Newman), Sharon Case (Sharon), and Michelle Stafford (Phyllis). Now, I will turn things over to Peter, who is celebrating 35 years next month as Jack Abbott!”
Peter Bergman expressed, “My first show as Jack Abbott was episode number 4,239. I can’t fit that into 13,000. I mean, that’s just a crazy number. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to think how to put it into some perspective. So, I found myself deep in the dark world of the worldwide web and in plumbing the depths, I found some meaning. I’m going to ask Michael Mealor ( to help me out. Michael’s first episode was 11,397. It probably goes without saying 13,000 sustains Y&R’s place as the longest-running scripted series in CBS history, by far. I have Amy Reisenbach here (president, CBS Entertainment) to affirm everything I’m saying. Starting in 1973, Y&R was a half-hour show until 1980. That was 1,774 episodes, or 887 television hours.”

Next, the three-time Daytime Emmy-winner continued, “From 1980 to the present, it was a one-hour show. We did 11,226 episodes, and that, of course, is 11,226 hours. Together, they equal 12,113 hours. That’s 504 days. Just to be clear, that is one year, four months, and 19 days of nonstop, 24 hours, seven days a week episodes of The Young and the Restless, I like to say a binge watchers dream. That’s more television hours than all of the Law and Order’s, NCIS’, Gunsmoke, Lassie, Criminal Minds, CSI’s, Dallas, Knots Landing Murder She Wrote, Two and a Half Men and Blue Bloods episodes combined, and we have a lot of people to thank for that.”
Josh Griffith closed out the ceremony and presentation by first thanking Sony Pictures Television and CBS executives for their unwavering commitment to the series and their recent four-year renewal. Y&R received the four-year pick-up back in February of this year which will extend the soap through the 2027-2028 television season.

Next, the executive producer and head writer acknowledged those in attendance, sharing, “And what can I say about the cast? Amazing! From our outstanding vets to our terrific generation of those newer to the show … we’ve got the best actors in daytime. All of you make such an important contribution, both on camera and off, as we’ve seen here today. I’d also like to recognize some other stars of Y&R as well. Ones you may not know by name, but without whom we would not be what we are. Our stellar crew and production staff, the lighting camera and video teams, audio props, grips, wardrobe, hair and makeup, our directors, PA’s, stage managers, and the art and post department. You were the first ones here, and the last one’s to lead with your brilliance, creativity, and hard work, and touch and enhance every aspect of the show. We thank you. I’m honored to be a part of this colossal team. Congrats to everyone here today on 13,000 episodes of The Young and Restless.”

Congrats on the house ! Remember JG was the writer at the time I believe that wrote Sharon burning it down . He continues to destroy the character and build up characters he likes. Listen the art of a good writer is to be able to get not personal but just write he has a issue with SC he accomplished with me what he wanted he ruined her but you will never make me like Stafford’s over the top self absorbed acting .
I love this show!
Hilarious you are saluting the writer that wrote Sharon burning down the ranch with the dragon lady JFP! Now years later he is putting the final nail in the coffin
Josh G, why want CBS fire his butt? He’s awful! WAKE UP CBS

‘General Hospital’ Alum Chad Duell Drops First Single EDM/Dance Track ‘If You Need Me’

Last weekend, we shared the news that General Hospital alum and Daytime Emmy winner, Chad Duell (ex-Michael Corinthos) was releasing his first single today on June 26th and it has indeed dropped! And for those readers who guessed that Duell’s first track out of the gate was going to be an EDM/Dance/House track … you are correct, sir!
The song entitled, “If You Need Me” is perfect for the late night clubs and can be found on Spotify and other major streaming platforms! Duell is noted as the performing artist, but as the composer/ lyricist and the beatmaker of the track. For his music projects, Chad is going solely by the name of “Duelly” which has been his social media handle for years.
Taking to his Instagram on Friday, Duell explained his deep dive into making music, expressing, “I’ve wanted to make music for a long time… I just never did it. It always felt like this huge, overwhelming thing to learn. All the technical side of it, the programs, everything that goes into actually building a track… it was easy to keep pushing it off. A couple months ago I finally just decided to go for it.”

BIT BY BIT PUTTING IT TOGETHER
Chad added, “Since then I’ve been putting in a lot of time learning, experimenting, figuring things out, and slowly starting to find a sound I’m really proud of. This first release is more of a dance/EDM vibe, but I’ve also been working on a lot of different styles behind the scenes that I’m just as excited about. At some point I realized I could keep holding onto everything trying to make it perfect… or I could just start putting music out and grow as I go.”
Stepping out of his own way, Duell firmly says, “So that’s what I’m doing. My first track “If You Need Me” is out now. More coming soon… this is just the beginning.”
As GH viewers know, Chad made the decision to step away from General Hospital after a 15-year run with the series where his last episode aired in January of 2025. By May of last year, the role was recast with Rory Gibson debuting in the part.

Josh Griffith Out as Head Writer at ‘The Young and the Restless’

In a major behind the scenes move, The Young and the Restless current head writer, Josh Griffith is stepping down from his duties and is soon exiting the top-rated soap opera.
TV Insider was first to break the news and according to their report, Griffith’s departure was his own choice and the cast and crew learned of his decision earlier today on Friday, June 26.
Griffith’s resignation is not effective immediately and for now he will be continuing to tell the stories in Genoa City. As of this writing, Y&R has not named Josh’s successor.

Previously, Josh stepped down from his other major duty as the soap opera’s co-executive producer. It was just two months ago we learned that longtime Y&R vet Sally McDonald took over the EP role, while Josh was remaining the series head writer.
A SOAP WRITER WELL-TRAVELED
The seven-time Daytime Emmy winner has had a storied career and tenure in the field of daytime drama. Josh began his soap writing career in 1988 with Santa Barbara, then went to One Life to Live, where he was promoted to co-head writer. He ended his time in Llanview, at that time, in 1995. Later, he co-created Sunset Beach with Bob Guza Jr. The series ran from 1997-99 on NBC. One Life to Live called again and Josh returned as co-head writer again alongside Michael Malone from 2003-2004. Next, he joined the writing team of As the World Turns.
It was back in 2006 that Griffith first came to Genoa City and The Young and the Restless. He started in the capacity of creative consultant, as a breakdown writer, and then was tapped as the series co-executive producer. After departing in 2008. It was not until 2012-2013 that he made a short return before heading to Days of Our Lives to become the co-head writer of Salem from 2015-2016.
Eventually, Josh resurfaced at Y&R as Supervising Producer before becoming head writer in 2019 after Mal Young’s exit. Griffith had served as both head writer and executive producer from 2023-25. In 2025, Sally McDonald joined him as the series co-executive producer until the recent change a few months ago where McDonald is the sole EP.
