Michael Muhney Speaks On His Sudden Firing From The Young and the Restless!

After the soap opera world was shocked yesterday by the firing of Michael Muhney (Adam Newman) of The Young and the Restless, fans were trying to figure out how this could have happened? After all, Muhney is one of the most talented actors in the genre with legions of viewers who have loved his portrayal of the complex Adam!
In his exclusive first interview following his dismissal, Huff Post Canada TV spoke with Muhney to get some answers as to what went down behind the scenes when he found out he was being let-go from the number one soap opera. Here are a few very interesting excerpts below!
Muhney on how he found out he was fired: “Executive Producer Jill Farren Phelps. We had a private talk in her office. She’s always been very kind to me. We have a good rapport. It was intimate … the way it was handled. (Pauses) Part of me feels this is because I’ve always been outspoken, and sometimes I’ve been too outspoken. Sometimes I’ve walked around with a big backpack full of hubris. That is entirely on me. CBS, Sony, and Jill Phelps are not to blame for that. If I’m going to claim to be a grown man, I have to own that. But it could be financial or story. It was explained to me that CBS and Sony want to give Adam a break for 3-6 months and then they’ll bring him back with a different actor. Maybe he does need a break. Adam has been on screen a lot. He’s not being killed off.”
Muhney on when he found out he was dismissed: “I was informed Monday night at work. I was told ‘We’re going to be letting you go.’ Everyone knows I always have something to say. I’m a chatterbox, laugh all you want, but I was rendered speechless for about five minutes.”
Muhney on Y&R suffering a mass exodus of stars including Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) and Billy Miller (Billy Abbott) who opted to leave, Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor), who passed away and now him!”Y&R” experienced a lot of loss this year. ” Bless his heart, on his last day Hartley Sawyer (who has also been let go as Jack’s son, Kyle) was more concerned about me when I told him I was leaving! His jaw dropped. We both sat in my dressing room and just talked. It’s still hard to process. But, hey, I get to walk out of that building on Thursday with a great actor and friend Billy Miller. It’s been an interesting journey. What I envy in guys like Hartley and Billy is that they’re single and don’t have kids, so anything is possible. But I know, while this is new for me, it’s healthy and good to be knocked off your center. I’ve been thrown into many a deep pool in my life and you can either choose to swim or sink. So, I’m going to break out my best breaststroke and see where it takes me.”

Where did you hear that MCE complained about MM for sexual harassment, Kim? I have seen the rumors about Hunter King but not MCE.
There’s no way the rumor about MCE can be true because she recently tweeted that he’s her buddy and that she will miss him.
Please don’t wish him to be on “General Hospital” because that show is flawless and we could do without him.
Not surprised he is speaking out. Knowing Mr. Megalomaniac, he will be using social media every single day for the next ten years with his sob story. The guy has a Jesus Complex 10 bigger than that of Kanye West or Lady Gaga’s.
You know this, how? From all accounts Michael is a stand up guy–gracious and generous as self evident from his classy interview cited above. And GH is far from flawless. It enjoyed a rating boast from the return of The Scorpios, but the Franco debacle is an embarrassment, Sparkle Pony is a one dimensional, perky mess of a disaster and the writing is choppy, confused and inconclusive.

Call me crazy… but I’m thinking recast of JASON MORGAN on GH… I think it’s a fair swap, Steve Burton for Michael Muhney. Fair Exchange is no Robbery!

Just found a hot rumor. Take it with caution, but then again, you just can’t make this up…A very reliable source says that Muhney was sexually harassing Hunter King, who plays Summer. He fondled her breasts once and did it again when they were hanging out with the actor who plays Fen. King wasn’t having it and neither was SONY. She is of age (19) but he’s 38 and married! Apparently she went to the higher ups and he was dismissed. JFP(Jill Farren Phillips) is NOT the villain in this- she actually did fight for him to stay (and perhaps settle the dispute within the cast) but SONY insisted he be let go, likely to avoid a possible lawsuit and terrible publicity. Which makes the interview that Muhney gave all the more disgusting.-
This doesn’t sound to trust worthy. Why would micheal hangout with those two he have never had a scene with summer since 2012 with him and mce together and never with fin . Sound somewhat strange.
Nobody is coming to Michael’s defense. Nobody EXCEPT Sharon Case is saying she’ll miss him, especially after all the reported on the set lap dances she gave him. They are obnoxiously way too together all over the internet. I wonder what Michael’s wife is saying! Michael has used crude vulgar language on his twitter account(c-word)to describe some fellow Y&R feminine fatales. All the other cast members are either mute or saying the real reason he was fired was deservedly so. Besides, no other girl is “breast worthy” of his fondling than Hunter Haley King.
There might be some truth to this, because Melody Thomas Scott alluded to something terrible as the reason he was fired and that the Powers That Be had nothing to do with it in her twitter that was published. Personally, while I have nothing against him as a person, I never liked his portrayal of Adam. I liked to original actor better.
What you heard was a rumor and you can be sued for putting in writing. We will probablely never know what happemed. I know that his acting was the finest I have ever seen he will be missed by abery large fan following. The only reason that I watch the show is see him. He states in the the interview that he takes full responsibilty for him getting fired. I respect his decicion to tape the finall few shows. He could walked as as he was fired left themin total chaos
I think he did something to get fired, fans think he is so wonderful, I have seen his tweets and he was rude to the fans.. All the fans that are so loyal, don’t see Michael tweeting and thanking everyone.. I don’t buy his excuse, he was fired for speaking his mind, if that was true Eric Braeden would have been fired a long time ago.. If the truth does come out which I doubt, the fans that support him won’t believe it..

A public figure (such as a politician, celebrity, or business leader) cannot base a sample on incorrect harmful statements unless there is proof that the writer or publisher acted with actual malice (knowledge of falsity or reckless disregard for the truth).[1] The burden of proof in defamation actions is higher in the case of a public figure.
I loved Sharon with Adam now that made the best romance in a hell of a long time. What a shame to fire him.
For the record when Burton left GH he was done with acting. He returned to acting only because CBS–NOT Ms. Phelps–was was willing to make the life balance he wanted possible. Steve Burton doesn’t need to kiss anyone’s behind–the quality of his body of work in daytime drama is well known and respected as witnessed when he appeared on “The Talk.” The crowd’s reaction to his entrance spoke volumes–it was wildly enthusiastic even before it was announced he was joining Y & R.
That being said, I agree letting Michael Muhney go is a huge mistake, beyond huge. Here’s hoping he makes a successful transition to primetime.
Even if Micheal did something to Chelsea or Summer, I think it is blown out of proportion. These days you can look at someone the wrong way and be accused of sexual harassment. If you touch someone then you are done.
Micheal made the show exiting, it will be difficult to replace him they should just kill his character. The show is going down anyway.
This is the end for me. They have to be complete morons letting Billy and Adam go. Adam is the reason I, and all my friends, watch Y&R. Certainly not for Victor and Nikki. She has gotten really boring. It’s sad watching them now. But Adam is Y&R. They should do anything they have to do to keep him on. And Billy.
Wow Y&R must not care much for ratings or their fans they lost some huge talent. Hunter is young and new not interesting to me.

I do think the character needs a break to pay for his crimes, but I am not happy about someone else playing the character. Those that have left the canvas recently are big losses, but I think there are still some talented actors there. Melissa Egan, Jessica Collins, Peter Bergman, & Jess Walton just to name a few! I am sick of Victor (which is the point, right?) and think he too needs a little break… or they need to at least make him pay for some of his recent attitude issues. Bringing Eileen Davidson back would make 2014 great… especially if they use her right! Bring Eddie Peck back as Cole to shake things up.

which shows falter moreso than? all the rest… DAYS is riding high… on how well they have progressed…
I love this show… for all the reason… that it doesn’t seem to get much press… but lo and behold.. my treasure… the lil’ engine that could.. fire along.. pulls triggers.. and an implosion of wealth to entreat the audience….

the three amigos.. Todd, Starr, McBain… to now… it’s taken sssooo long to develop their new characters… Franco, Kiki, Silas.. I give credit to the actor who portrays Silas… he’s never wavered as much… as screech kiki… and kookoo too much… has to rely on his own one man show.. that he hasn’t even meshed with the rest of the cast… and dim bulb Carly.. doesn’t seem to care.
and i’m sure there are a few more nuts to crack… LOL
so… it’s a fair shake… at odds… for either or… show to lose at this point…

I agree of all the soaps Michael would do well at Days. Nicole is desperately seeking a new man..gosh they would be hot as hell! Father Bore is not cutting it. Or heck bring back Chloe for a pairing. James and Michael in scenes would be fire!! Would Days be an option since its also a Sony show?
Michael Muhney is the #1 actor on Young and the Restless, he should not have been fired. There are thousands of fans who are willing to stop watching the show as of Feb 1st if Michael is not brought back on the show. Are you really ready to lose your viewers?
Patrick, I agree with your every word. I am giving up on GH after Robert leaves. I’d stay for Anna but her romantic pairing reminds me of Samantha Stephens with her Uncle Arthur. Now, with the firing of MM, I may finally be done with the soap opera genre.
I agree that he would be a great Peter Blake recast…wasnt Peter selling drugs…with the drug storyline currently going on involving Theressa, J.J, Rory, Bev, and Brady(again) maybe Peter could be the one behind it?

I literally just posted my tv on kijiji. I wont be tuning ion anymore. If it’s a stellar year without The awesomeness he brought to the role, I could care less. I for one wont know about it. I only started watching the show because he got me (and my husband) hooked.

I agree. JFP ruined all my CBS soaps. I expected (and got) the worst when she came in and hope there’s something left when she stumbles out. Not that upset about Kyle, but I can also pass on Summer, Fen, Noah, Noah’s girlfriend, Leslie, her brother, the chick that “terrorized” Neil and her boyfriend that helped. I don’t even know their names. That’s how much I watch now. I didn’t like MM when he first came, but he has grown to be the best Adam. Another actor won’t be the same.

I think he is a perfect gentleman; If they had told me they will be recasting the role I made popular a few months after being fired I would have said words that would have shocked a Sailor! I have no doubt we will see him again in something amazing.

This is true, Elizabeth. The actors who have left and burned bridges were never heard from again. I don’t mean that to sound as ominous as all that–I mean that they were not hired by other networks. I swear, after the first Jack was let go, I could have sworn that it was his voice asking me,”Would you like fries with that?” at the drive through.

No matter how Michael or the show execs try to justify this, it’s a real blow to the show. The character Michael muhney plays, Adam, is one of the most intriguing and exciting characters on the show. He will not be easily replaced, and the new actor will not be readily accepted. It’s one thing for an actor to leave so they can explore other options and quite another to fire them, with two days notice, before Christmas no less, when they are at the top of their game. And very popular with the fans! Shame on you, Y & R. Best wishes to you Michael, with your talent you shouldn’t have any trouble moving on to bigger and better things and where you are truly appreciated.

Genie Francis peaved off Jill Farren Phelps in 2002 and Jill has done everything in her power to keep Genie out of daytime ever since.

I am still in shock! I cannot believe they let Michael Muhney go! WTH are they thinking?? I’ve been a loyal viewer of Y&R for close to 20 years, but I’m no longer going to watch it. Yes, there are still very talented actors on the show now, but why continue watching when at any moment we’re just going to get the rug pulled out from under us again with more top players being let go. It seems every time JFP takes charge of a show cast members are fired and the shows go down hill fast. Y&R was number one for 25 years, but I guarantee they’re going to lose they’re number one spot very soon. I’ll stick with General Hospital.
I am going to miss Billy he was so charming. As far as the character Adam I never cared for him but that is the way he was written. He seems to have a big following but I watched the show for Jess Walton and Billy Miller. I used to watch every day but
now just catch one or two shows a week. (Soaps are easy to pick up from)

I’ve always thought that Muhney has the right “look” & ability for primetime. I don’t know why. But, he would fit right into any number of series that I can think of right now. So, even though fans are upset, sometimes there’s a silver lining to that black cloud.
Regarding the actual decision, all I know is that when JFP headed GH, she made it all about Steve Burton. Looks like that is where the prevailing winds are headed, even though the guy doesn’t want to work more than 3 days, 1 of which counts as his commuting time from TN.

I am in shock and disgusted! MM truly portrayed the best Adam I have ever seen. I am so saddened by this news! What is wrong with Y&R?? I have no experience in the Industry but could do a better job of running the show. WTH!
Well he obviously ticked off someone by saying something he shouldn’t have said, and that got him fired, at least that is what I read between the lines of his statement about being a chatterbox. Of course I doubt we will get the full story on what exactly went down, but he seems to be falling on the sword for the good of the show and taking responsibility for doing something that provoke them to fire him. The old it wasn’t them it was me line.
Y&R strength was it being stable, in it’s look, story style, and cast. It was one of few soaps not toss to and fro on the sea of endless changes, in front and behind the camera But now that stability has been dismantle over the last year; the foundation is cracking,
Soaps really don’t work well with change. Some changes are okay, but when too many happen too often, it throws the viewers off. I have seen other shows go through this and some survive, but most often the more they try to ‘fix” it with changes, the weaker the product becomes until it is cancelled
As for MM hopefully he will find employment soon for his family sake, and hopefully for their sake he will learn to play the game better and learn to shut up when need be. But whoever they find to play Adam better be prepared not to liked no matter how wonderful he might be.
So, Mary, you seem to be faulting Michael for telling the truth. He is that kid who said the emperor is naked. From every account I have heard, Michael was the utter personification of graciousness, integrity and cooperation. Now the damage control wheels will start spinning but luckily most of us will see right through the spin cycle.
I not faulting Michael for telling the truth, but I have been in many a work place, where if you are interested in keeping your job, you learn to keep certain opinions to yourself. Office politics can be tricky, and I found the older I get, the more I see the value of being selective in comments about bosses or co-workers. If the situations are dangerous, or can hurt someone, or illegal, then speak out, but if it is a matter of management style, etc, discretion is sometimes the better path.
I found in most workplaces, the most outspoken employees are usually the hardest working and the most devoted. The speak out because they care so darn much, but unfortunately, that doesn’t get rewarded. Keeping your opinions to yourself unless asked for them, is usually the smarter way to go– is it right? is it fair? No– but depends how much you like your job.
I love MM. I am sorry if you felt I was blaming him or knocking him down– I wasn’t. I think whatever the issue was they could have worked it out privately with him– and I do see the spin at work too—that is why I said he is falling on the sword, which means, he is taking the blame to take the heat off the show. And to me that shows he is a team player, otherwise he would be telling us the real version of what happened. In the end, I think what they did to him was unprofessional and undeserved. Yet, he is an employee and as all employees know the bosses call the shots, for good or bad, they are in charge and our fate rests with them. All we can do is hope the ratings finally suffer enough to lose that coveted number one spot to make these bosses, bosses fired them.

a lot of posters: have emphatically stated… and I agree… that, over the years… it definitely: “Was, A Habit”
to habitually… turn on the tele @ 11 a.m… and it was a magical time….. think.. when this genre first started… peeking in to …. other peoples lives… especially… rich and famous.. and all the other delectable treats… soaps delivered… and the rest is history… Y&R definitely… by virtue of CBS – smart – move… we all started the day… WITH Genoa City… and all the networks.. followed suit.. and or.. we were all treated to a dozen plus soaps to cull from… Y&R.. “by default” became a #1 institution…

no other soap… had the ratings bonanza… that Y&R did… true?

3 generations.. of cast… aplomb… ALL can ACT their arses off… it staggers me… how good DAYS is…
Y&R, is like a whole new show, desperately, trying to find itself… in the transition mode… ranting about vets… let go-fired cast…(recasts) of the vets children… and all the newbies… on Y&R.. who seriously lack interest, just can’t act… I don’t think many can argue this validation…

B&B has always been that one show that, for me… is under the radar… and because it’s such a huge hit internationally… that it seems like it doesn’t need to do much… a 1/2 hour show to produce is the reason it’s a mainstay

Mary & Patrick please google the tribute Sharon Case did on MM it was lovely! She is a true friend who is courageous she may lose her job but she stuck her neck out and I cryed the whole way thru it.

My mother & I were JUST talking yesterday about loving Adam & Chelsea back together & remembering how much we used to absolutely detest Adam & how funny it is that you can come to adore a character you could not stand in the beginning. I am reeling over this news. I really feel bad for him, anyone who has suddenly lost a job unexpectedly knows the shock. Good luck to you, Michael.
I can see the actor who played Kyle or even the actor who has played or plays Noah but it’s unbelievable when it comes to Adam. MM made Adam better than the original actor. Move on Michael! Go on auditions and land on TV. Better yet, go for an Oscar! mouth shut. You are good and you were right about the tired Victor/Nicki story lines: your takeaway is to be politically astute next time around. Break a leg!

I’m trying to hang in, but I’m done with Y&R. I’m sure they don’t care what we as viewers think. Y&R is so slow and dragged out. They keep trying to get us to accept Sharon as normal while they drag out her telling the truth. Plus, how long do they think we’ll stick around to see another Jack and Victor battle? How unoriginal! Even though Y&R has some new viewers, there are now a couple of million of viewers than a few years ago. Things used to be exciting, fast moving and interesting. Why they bother to bring in new actors and then get rid of them is a mystery. I tried to keep up a tradition from my mother who watched Y&R from its beginning until she passed last year at age 93. It is getting too painful for me to keep watching Y&R. It appears that these writers and head writer are trying to lose viewers and destroy Y&R.

I was hanging in with Y&R with my 15+ years but the first nail was Delia – it killed me to watch all that. It was hard watching Billy going through it on one side and Adam on the other, my two favorite characters. Now both of them leaving – awful. I know nothing about the back story – just that I can no longer watch them keep ruining the lives of these two characters over and over. Stopped watching 4 weeks ago. No regrets.
2014 is shot! I will no longer watch this show! I think it is very tastless how they fired him 3 days notice??? They have lost way to much talent! There is nobody left and no reason to watch anymore. I can only watch Victor and Nikki break up and get remarried so many times, I can only watch Sharon go crazy so many times. I tune in on a daily basis just to see Adam and Billy, Both now gone! Nope Im out! Adios Y&R, I don’t see It surviving!
You have always made Adam the BAD guy, it was time you make him a good guy and let him have a life with his baby . this is going to really hurt this show! I have watched this show for over 47yrs and this is the worst year ever. If the ratings drop its no ones fault but yours. Reconsider Adam please asap. He will get a role on another soap and we will all go watch it. Y&R is nothing like it use to be! Get rid of some of those young ones that don’t know what they are doing. (all about drugs and we don’t need that in this world today)

The show started in 1973, which makes it only forty years old– remember all the 40th anniversary stuff in March? But I get your point– as a long time viewer, to see this wonderful show mess with the formula that worked so well over the years. It used to attract high quality actors and crew who were loyal because they loved who they worked for, but it is obvious the behind the scenes — mass firing of long time crew members last December, actors quitting and stuff is affecting the quality of what is seen on screen. It is a shame, no matter how long one has watched.
I have dealt with a lot of change and the revolving actor door since Maria Arena Bell left but this is the last straw for me. I’ve been watching for 30+ years and Michael Muhney is hands down the best actor with the most intriguing multidimensional character. His last airdate is Jan 30 and that will be mine as well. He recently stated he was friends with Maura West (ex-Diane Y&R, ex-Carly ATWT), Y&R made a big mistake not pairing this duo up a few years ago so I am suggesting GH snatch him up and put these two mega actors together. But unless they reverse their decision like they did when they fired Daniel Goddard (Cane)–I am done with Y&R, PERIOD.

I’m a newer viewer of Y&R since the purge of OLTL and AMC, not a loyal one. And one who is still upset with how these shows and their fans were treated. And here I thought it was only ABC who was the bad guy. Well in a way it is since Jill Phelps is the ABC alumnae who almost helped kill General Hospital. I sure don’t know what kind of allure she has, especially since I’m only watching Y&R by default and am enjoying GH way more since she’s gone. Miss Steve Burton a bit, but not that much. GH is bigger than him. And the Ron’s swap has been great for the show.
I am so saddened by Michael Muhney’s exit. He brought something to YandR that I have never seen before & I’ve been watching 25 years. Truly feel this is a bully move…MM wasn’t apart of the “crowd” at work. He was most definitely a team player and hard worker but, I believe he was pushed out by the “crowd”. Let’s face it, MM can’t fit into a crowd because he was born to stand out. MM deserves better than this! I’m DONE watching YandR. I will follow the Muhney wherever he goes though on my tv!

I have never watched Y and R but was planning to from Jan 2014. But, after reading comments by long time viewers of Y and R, better not to start watching. And, then I came to know that JP has been appointed HW at Y and R. After the debacle that JP unleashed on ATWT, I would definitely not watch Y and R. I will never watch anything with which CG and JP are associated. After reading Y and R fans’ comments; it appears that JFP is as rotten as CG and JP. So, DOOL is the only soap, I will continue to watch. I absolutely love DOOL.
Good choice RLeternal. Don’t start watching Y&R because the minute you get attached to a great talent like Michael Muhney, he’s gone. It’s happened one too many times for me and I’m through with them!

The actress who played Drucila was excellent. She spoke out about African American representation on the show. Nothing wrong with that. Y &R has a ton of African American viewers. They certainly have improved in that area since. But, few actors brought the energy and passion that Drucila brought to the screen.
I blame this all on Steve Burton. CBS and Sony want him to shine, but can’t right now because he’s sharing the spotlight with Mike Muhney. I knew he would be trouble the moment they made his character Nikki’s long lost son.
Many people believe as you do. But please tell me how Steve Burton is to blame?
CBS went through all this work to prop up Steve coming to YR and he’s getting no traction with the viewers. They’re just not warming up to his character. Even Stitch is resonating more with the viewers than Dylan. So it seems weird that CBS wants to give “Adam” a break and replace him with another actor.
Oh…Don’t be surprised if Spinelli from GH (who was just recently fired from GH) replaces Michael. He’s a good friend of Steve Burton . Brandon Barish who played Johnny Z from GH is also a possibility
Bah ha ha! The idea of that pale faced, baggy eyed freak playing Adam is hilarious. I almost hope Shriek, I mean, Spinelli, takes Michael’s place just for the comedic possibilities. Can you imagine Shriek going against Victor?
Bradford Anderson left GH on his own. He was not fired. You do have a point about him joining Y&R with Burton and JFP. Would not surprise me!
I have to laugh when these actors (who have nothing lined up after they have left a soap) claim they left on their own. Anderson has nothing lined up and a family to support, Barash is not working steady and Reeves was let go and he’s working small gigs while his wife is working full time in L.A. on Days. What actor (where jobs are scarce) wants to give up a good paying job to pursue other interests and might wait months or years to find something. I think GH had no use for any of these guys and eventually they saw the writing on the wall.

I’m not accepting this and as a fan will put up a fight. I will call and write until they are tired of hearing from me and brings him back. Have already emailed Steve Kent and Steve Mosko of Sony. I have called the Y&R line and will stop watching the show after I have been a fan of 40 years. It’s one thing for a character to leave on their own but Michael should never be fired. There are a couple of sites on Facebook for fans to unite and fight this and I suggest real fans do just that.

Wednesday, Dec 18. 11:28 PM – I just now saw this! Completely speechless. Michael was a recast because the previous actor did not want his character involved in a gay storyline that was used as part of a plot that would show the lengths that the character of “Adam” would go. Micheal jumped in with both feet and was immediately embraced by every long time Y&R fan. He was one of the most successful recasts in soap history, so much so, that he was even better than the actor he recasts. Talent on top of talent. Billy Miller gone. Talent on top of talent. Michelle Stafford gone. And our dear, sweet Jeanne Cooper. Enough already. JFP certainly made sure Steve Burton would be part of a major family. She is poison. After watching the creation of this show, loving all that the Bell family did, (yes, I loved it enough to get over the whole Cricket character) and then suffering through the last several years, now with the latest group of beloved actors leaving, it is time to say Good Bye.

Suggestion Y&R If you feel you have boxed the character of Adam in and want him to pay for his sins, WRITE it that while Adam is away for a week or two that someone turn themselves in for hitting Delia and Adam actually only came along after the fact and never really did it. The car could have been next to her body and he didn’t even know it and that’s how he got the scarf. THEN bring back Michael after you have given him a couple of weeks off. That’s the only way you’ll keep loyal fans!!
Unfortunately this isn’t just about the character Adam because they are going to recast the part after the break– MM getting fired was about getting rid of MM, not Adam. I believe at some point, when the character comes back as a recast they will say it was say someone else like Mason who was driving the car that really hit Delia— but even if they did redeem Adam from being the hit and run driver, they are not going to hire MM back to play him.
I still think its a BIG mistake, and I’m really tried of the lousy story lines. Keeping bad actors ( Sharon , Nick , Summer & Fatih) and letting the great ones go. I’m sure Victor & Nicki will be next. Once Billy & Adam leave I’m leaving too. Get ready GH you’re about to have a new fan
I watched GH many years ago but stopped when I found myself watching soaps from the time I got home from work till bedtime so I just watched Y&R and then when B&B came on I followed that soap…..so now I will go back to GH since I think the folks at Y&R are loosing their minds and I don’t want to be around for the firing of many of the other long time stars…..and if they can let someone go that quick after the years MM was on, then they can do it to any of the longtime stars, folks don’t get too comfortable on the show……I guess Eric forgot how we all saved his butt a few years ago, and now I am sorry I was part of that…..he needs to retire and let a younger person make a living…….

I’ve stopped watching since this happened. It’s just too hard to watch knowing that MM and BM are going to be gone. They cannot be replaced…..!!!!!!!!!! MM is a brilliant actor and between he and Billy that’s why I watched, well no more and I know I’m certainly not the only one. Y&R is going to feel it in the ratings. I think it’s deplorable to leave the reason they let him go unsaid. Rumors can destory a person’s career. JFP, Sony, The Bell’s or whoever is in charge over there should be ashamed of themselves. You just don’t fire someone a week before Christmas knowing this person has a family to support! So long, Y&R!!!!!!
Wow! Just Wow! Of all the changes, this is worst decision. Michael is handiling this with class but, I don’t have to. The character of Victor is such a joke. I dread watching days when he gets much screen time. Unlike Mrs. C, I don’t think he is sharp enough to think on his feet anymore. The same things constantly come out of his mouth and make him seem like a blundering old man. “I’ll be damned”, “Jackass Abbott”, and “Billy-boy” are all like nails on a chalk board. There is no depth left!!! Michael, or Adam, on the other hand, pulls us to the edge or our seats each time he’s on and keeps me from leaving to do laundry when Victor walks in. This will be a huge loss for Y&R, but will lead Michael to the bigger and better opportunities he desires!
This just breaks my heart. I’ve loved and hated black sheep Newman son over the years. My favorite sl for him was when he was with Chelsea. I was really glad they were getting back together. They have chemistry together like no other.
I wishing him well and prayers for him and his aunt that received the cancer diagnosis the same day. Maybe he needs to get in contact with Mark Harmon they are starting up a new NCIS in New Orleans I believe MM would be great on that show or any of the other NCIS shows for that matter.
Like everyone else, I am completely shocked and saddened by this terrible news. I started watching Y&R after OLTL end it’s run on the alphabet network. I really enjoy Michael’s work. He’s just super as Adam. On the one hand, you hate Adam and want to kill him. Then, he shows how pitifully damaged he is and you can’t help but fell for him. I know that’s how the character is written; but , you have to have a gifted actor to make him come to life. Michael Muhney is certainly gifted.
For all those who say they will stop watching Y&R, let me say think long and hard. Having lived through the horrible trauma of losing my beloved OLTL. A show is more than one character or actor. It’s the sense of community and the history and all that had gone before and is yet to come. Think about it. (And yes, JFP needs to go. I lived through her on OLTL and when I used to watch GH.)
To Michael, thank you for your wonderful work. You truly entertained and captivated this new viewer. I wish you nothing but success in your future.
I get fans are angry,but I’m really tired of them, taking it out on the actors, and demanding they know what really happened. They obviously can’t talk about it and poor DD is getting a lot of it, he is the sweetest man and doesn’t deserve it.
I can’t believe this decision! My mom and I hate been avid fans for years and thought MM could be the future Jack or Victor. I was upset about Billy Miller, but he made it clear that he would be at Y&R until something else came along. I too think JFP is the worst thing that could happen to this show. She killed off sweet Delia and now got rid of MM? I’m livid and sick and tired of the Steve Burton show. I liked him, but now I see how she’s steam rolling over other actors for him and it makes me sick. My mom and I cringed when we heard they hired her after watching her kill ATWT and attempting to kill GH. And so what if he has a big mouth? He could never be as outspoken and inappropriate as the actress who played Drucilla. Whatever he said was behind the scenes unlike her. If Steve Burton complained about something, he’d probably have the red carpet rolled out for him because he’s the chosen one. JPF doesn’t care about the fans. That’s obvious. I’m disgusted.

I wish MM the best and I know from the talent that he has brought on screen that this guy should be in prime time or even bigger. I could see him on Dallas reboot or Devious Maids or Criminal Minds, I could even see him in a comedy.
I’ve watched Y&R since day one. As much as I hate to say this I’m probably going to stop after all these years. It’s incredible to me that new actors (and not all of them very good ones) with uninteresting story lines are staying & yet great actors w/great characters are being let go. Sad, sad, sad.
Letting Michael Muhney go is the biggest mistake this show could possibly make. He’s been a staple of the series, and has been a longtime advocate for cast, crew and the entire medium. And the fact he just signed a contract until 2015, I’m surprised by this. Decision to recast, as well, is devastating.
I’ve supported Jill on this series until this firing. It’s unjust and unfair to an actor, especially right before Christmas. I hope she understands the travesty she just provided to herself. And CBS/Sony should be ashamed of themselves. And I see more casting cuts coming. My next one I see is Sharon Case being let go in the role of Sharon Newman, and then recast down the line.
Michael’s positive outlook is refreshing, however. A true class act. And the respect between him and Maura West is one I still happen to love and adore. Such a compassion between two actors. And seeing Colleen Zenk (ex-Barbara, ATWT) speak on Michael’s talents in saying that he is the reason she began watching shows something about his power an actor in this medium.
I will follow Mr. Muhney through his exit. He has big things ahead of him. I see other soaps immediately wanting him for their own series. And along with Muhney, I will be leaving Y&R on January 30, 2014. Wise up CBS and Sony, at this point, you are now driving away those who’ve supported you and Jill through this entire time. Makes me wonder exactly how Josh Griffith felt when he left the series, too.
I hope Y&R has taken notice of all the press and interest his firing has generated. Y&R’s 40th anniversary, 25 years of being #1 did not generate this much press. That should tell them how many people love Michael as Adam and want him on the show. Take Adam off for a few months, fine, but don’t recast him. Bring Michael back as Adam. I think it was a mistake for them to make Adam Delia’s killer, even accidental. And it is a mistake, major, to fire Michael and take Adam off the show for several months.
The thing with the story line about Adam hitting Delia could easily be fixed. A broken head light and scarf under your car doesn’t proved his car was the one that actually hit her– it could be undone or explained. Obviously the issue is more about MM personally than his character. It would be great while the character is off screen the powers that be have a change of heart and rehire MM to play the role again, but soap executives are notorious for not craving into fan pressure– only rarely do they give in. But perhaps if everyone who says they are going to stop watching really do stop, maybe it will affect the ratings enough to get someone to step in and fix this mess.
Hey I’m a 71 year old lady and I have watched Y&R since the first show and will have to go thru withdrawl as I intend to QUIT watching Y&R when MM leaves unwillingly I might add……how is the world can they do this???? Do they not care what their fans feel about MM getting fired??? I think not and that is why after all of these years when MM leaves so do I!!! If they don’t care how the fans feel then I don’t think the fans should care about them any longer….so I say goodbye to a very old friend, Goodbye YY&R!!!!!

When they released pBrenda Dickson as Jill I said I would never watch again. And I didn’t for about ten years. Eventually I got over it and came back (not that I will ever accept Jess Walton). When I think about it the entire cast is different from when I started watching thirty something years ago. It’s survived a lot of cast shakeups and will survive these.

Steve Kent Reportedly OUT as Sony Pictures Television VP in Charge of DAYS and Y&R
On Friday, reports surfaced that Steve Kent, Senior Executive Vice President of Programming at Sony Pictures Television, is no longer with the company and overseeing the Sony soap operas, Days of our Lives and The Young and the Restless.
According to Soap Opera Digest, a set side source reported that Kent’s last day was last Friday, April 12th, which was one day after what would have been his final appearance in his Sony VP role at the Days of our Lives 15,000th episode on set celebration.
During that ceremony, Kent gave a brief speech giving kudos to DAYS for its incredible milestone. Days is a co-production of Sony Pictures Television and Corday Productions, while Y&R is produced by Bell Dramatic Serial Company in association with Sony Pictures Television.

Kent started his soap opera career as a producer for CBS’ defunct Capitol and then as the supervising producer of NBC’s Santa Barbara from1984 to 1993.

51st Annual Daytime Emmy Award Nominations: CBS Soaps Score Most, Eric Braeden, Dick Van Dyke, Guy Pearce Receive Nods
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) have officially announced on Friday, the full list of nominees for the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
While Thursday brought with it four reveals of the nominees in the Outstanding Daytime Drama, Talk Show Host, Lead Actor and Actress categories (as presented by various entertainment news programs), today’s nominations include all the other categories not previously announced.
The Daytime Emmy Awards telecast is set to be presented live on Friday night, June 7, at 8 PM EDT /delayed PT, on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+. This will mark the 18th time that CBS has broadcast the Daytime Emmys.

In addition, The Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle Emmy Awards will be presented on Saturday, June 8 at t9 PM ET/6 PM PT and streamed on The Emmys apps and at watch.TheEmmys.tv. The ceremonies will take place at the Westin Bonaventure Los Angeles.
Television icon, Dick Van Dyke has received his first-ever Daytime Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Guest Performer category for his touching portrayal of Timothy Robicheaux on Peacock’s Days of our Lives. The nomination makes Van Dyke the oldest Daytime Emmy nominee in history at 98-years-old. In addition, motion picture and TV star, Guy Pearce, is also nominated as Guest Performer for his longtime role as Mike Young in the reboot of Neighbours.
Speaking of Neighbours, the Australian soap opera also received its first ever Daytime Emmy nomination for Daytime Drama Series now that its a revival can be streamed on Amazon Freevee. In addition, The Young and the Restless iconic, Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) received his first Daytime Emmy nomination in more than 20 years in the Lead Actor in a Drama Series category.

In the Daytime Drama series categories, CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless each scored 12 nominations more than any other show. Leading the acting nominations was B&B, who landed 7 performers in the various categories, a first in its 37-year history.
In a statement, Adam Sharp, President & CEO, NATAS expressed, “We are happy to once again honor the creative talent both in front of and behind the camera of America’s favorite Daytime programs. We look forward to celebrating the icons who enliven the days of audiences across the country.”

Brent Stanton, Head of Daytime, NATAS added, “Producing the Daytime Emmys is a labor of love for all of us at NATAS. The huge popularity of these shows continues to be must-see viewing for their fans.” NATAS also revealed that Lifetime Achievement Honorees, Hosts, Presenters, and Silver and Gold Circle honorees will be revealed at a later date.
The Daytime Emmy Awards recognize outstanding achievement in television programming honoring work in a variety of categories, including daytime dramas, talk shows, instructional programming, hosting, culinary, and legal/courtroom programs. In 2021, NATAS and the Television Academy jointly announced plans to realign the Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards to be organized by content genre, as opposed to program airtime.
The 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be produced once again by NATAS and Associated Television International (ATI). Adam Sharp and Lisa Armstrong are executive producers from NATAS, while David McKenzie executive produces from ATI.
