Days of our Lives fans who for months suspected Melanie Jonas was on her way back to the Salem canvas are correct, which finally brings back Molly Burnett to the NBC soap opera!

This week’s Soap Opera Digest (on newsstands now) reveals that Burnett will be back on-air in November just in time for sweeps!  Molly was with the show previously from 2008 to 2012 before exiting.

So, what brings Melanie back and what is her story? Well, in SOD’s November Sweeps preview section, Days of our Lives executive producer, Ken Corday had this to share: “Melanie comes home and reunites with Daniel (Shawn Christian) and Parker. It quickly becomes apparent she’s harboring a secret, so expect some surprises regarding what she’s been up to since she’s left Salem!”

Are you glad that Molly Burnett is back? What secret could Melanie have?  Share your thoughts below!

Daniel needs her right now so yes she has been very much missed from the canvas.

I’m so happy that she is coming back to Salem. I love Molly Burnett. I can’t wait to find out what secrets that Melanie has.

Sorry but I find her incredibly annoying. Her fake smile, loud mouth and yapping constantly. I have been watching Days for a long time and I am getting sick of all these spoiled brats like “jay-jay” & abby oh excuse me “abigail” ; thank god they got rid of nick. Bring back Bo, Steve and the more seasoned actors who actually provide some substance to a soap and keep viewers watching.

Not very excited about this, the character always annoyed me. Was hoping the actress (Melissa Archer) who played Natalie on OLTL was the recast for this role.

Love Melissa Archer, but I think she is a little too mature to play Melanie.

I agree Melador. Was never a fan. I probably won’t tune in daily with Eileen Davidson’s arc coming to an end. Eileen is the only reason I started to tune in again almost two years ago. There are no characters that I am invested in.

I love Molly Burnett, she is a wonderful actress. My prediction is Melanie had a baby and has other deep secrets. Molly decided not to renew her contract with Days Of our Lives. Now she is coming back to the show, after being away for 2 years. Please bring back Calliope Jones and Eugene Bradford, they were hilarious together.

I was glad when the character of “Melanie” left the show, but I was not ready for “Carly” to leave. They should have brought Carly back. I agree with bringing Calliope and Eugene back. That would be fun for Marlena. It would be nice to see how Calliope is after being put in jail because of Anna.

Oh! you have the same idea…

what if she was pregnant with Chad’s baby ? this would further develop Chad DiMera… and if she’s harboring secrets… please soap gods.. let it be … that she’s not a saint, like Daniel and Maggie…

I was never that involved with Melanie character… the only time was when she was in scenes with Crystal Chappelle… her mother.

I have to agree 100% with poster, Jules

why doesnt DAYS just put out the monies and hire A list actors ???? !!!!! this just gives us MORE Daniel and Maggie… who are so saintly it’s ad nauseum… clutch your rosary beads that much tighter

oye! it’s for the younger audience… I get that…. it’s just stagnant for the canvas as a whole

what we need is Shane and Kimberly Donovan’ with their son in tow… to cement this family.. who are sterling… must watch captivation !

why not spend the money and bring back Carrie and Austin !!!! hint hint… Austin and Abs…. Carrie and Rafe…. bring these stories back

God… I hope beyond hope… that the rumor mill is true… the Michael Muhney may be the new EJ

I just have this gnawing feel that DAYS is falling through the cracks… and is filtering… not so sublime…

hope beyond hope

been saying forever to please bring carrie and austin back!! they didnt deserve to be let go last time, especially since then we ve had to endure jordan and ben which are major stinkers!
as well bring back the docks which was such a significant recognizable days set, instead of everyone hanging out at a bench in the park!
i love days, thank god for the acting and writing cause the look of the show is dated and cheap! the sets look circa a college production!

yes I am glad need to be with daniel. also baby with chad great I also bet she didn’t go through with the divorce.

Oh, joy !!!! ….so very happy for Molly’s return. I love everything about her…down to her voice.
My first thought, as to the secret, was that she had Chad’s baby. But, then, what is dangerous about that? Right?
BTW…Melissa Archer is too old to play the role of Daniel’s daughter.

Im still wondering what Jordan’s secret is(thought Clyde had her prostitute?)…actually i no longer care what her secret is…as for Melanie she accidentally killed someone??? Cant get any darker…ill just wait and see…just hope it isnt dragged out like Jordans…her secret was she really had no secret…lol

Well, jimh. As far as I’m concerned your predictions are always almost on the mark.
Remember when you predicted that GH’s Nina would threaten Kiki’s life to Ava’s face? And, Ava would then be forced to reveal Kiki is indeed Nina’s? Well, I think that’s happening right now.

Yes and it doesn’t seem to matter as she is leaving the show…well at least they are writing her out…. there was never any spark to her character…

I think possibly that’s why Melissa Archer is coming…. possibly as a love interest for rafe?

Good Golly, Miss Molly!

I can think of a number of characters I would rather have back. I would even like to have Stephanie back to give Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) more to do than show up to doctor every now & then. But, I’m glad they are bringing Melanie back as opposed to yet another character. Wonder if Phillip will end up back on the canvas?

Thrilled that this rumor panned out to be true. Milly will help fill the void left by Allison Sweeney exiting as Sami. I know most will disagree and that is fine. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion . I adore Melanie and Molly!

Molly…not Milly…sorry

Milly is silly… Molly is jolly!!! lol

If she had Chads baby and hid that fact that could be a dangerous secret because it would be Stefanos grandchild. I personally think Jordan was molested by Clyde but I to lost interest in this storyline, its been dragging out for ever. Get John and Marlena back together already.

Yes, Sarah. That makes so much sense…hiding a grandchild from Stefano. Good assumption.
I never seriously got into the Jordan/Ben/Clyde storyline because it did not capture my interest. Just too stupid, in my opinion…..child’s play !!!!

yes please let micheal murray be ej and bree williamson be sami

Is there a real possibilty about the EJ recast??? It would be amazing! Days needs to talk to SONY and secure Eileen back.

Honestly, I’m not too thrilled; and it has nothing to do with this character or actress. It has to do with the fact that the “Daniel Jonas hour” is going to center even more on his waste of a character. Blech

SO, I guess she didn’t make it BIG in Hollywood!!
Cracks me up when these young soap stars leave only to return because that ONE big movie role they went out for didn’t exactly bring in tons of offers ….

Maybe Days listened to its fans for a change when we said we wanted more familiar faces? This is a start.

I for one am glad Molly is back, although it won’t get me back as a regular viewer. I’d still like to see Days re-invest in bringing back more fan faves. I’ve never seen people so angry at this show… and yes, people are more upset than when Higley was writing.

Memo to Ken Corday: Whatever Melanie’s “secret” is try to reveal it quicker than you have done with Jordan’s “secret.” If you haven’t noticed, fans lose interest after a while. Write your plots more densely and acknowledge that your audience has the intelligence and attention span to follow an intricate and complex series of beats — then revealing the secrets sooner shouldn’t be a problem. Just my advice of course, for whatever it’s worth.

You are forgetting who’s writing this show. Tomlin and Whitesell aren’t capable of that. And as much as I like Molly and Melanie, I’m afraid this “secret” is so transparent the viewers will guess it immediately. I agree with your advice, though! 🙂

Don’t understand why NBC doesn’t simply order them to “pick up the pace” on these stories that (if they ever go anywhere) take forever to play out.

I swear more happens in one week on GH than in one year on Days.

Agree 100%. Jordan has been a snooze since she first appeared. Ben is not much better.

As for Melanie, I really hope this is a short-term non-contract visit. The sooner she departs, the better.

I agree that Jordan’s secret was revealed to slowly. I also think the secret that was ultimately revealed was not worth the wait. No disrespect to acting ability of Chrishell. It was just a dud of a story.

She became very annoying once the writers started writing her as a good gal. The character is much more interesting aa a schemer.

Im glad Molly Bennet is coming back to Days of our. Lives Mealnie Jonas Angelee Yerkey

I could care less about her coming back. She was a real snooze. I am finished with Days. I was a real Eric and Nicole fan and that was ruined. Plus after reading Ken Cordays interview, about how he doesn’t care about what the fans want, that was the icing on the cake for me. If it weren’t for the fans, there would be no days. Nothing against Shawn Christian, but everything I read fans want to see less of him, but he continues to be just about daily. So the fans mean nothing to Mr. Corday.

I find her lovely and enchanting. But do please tell Annie, where did you read this Ken Corday interview? Here? I didn’t see it. I like to read these things. Seems a bit hard to care what fans want if you write 3-6 months in advance…just sayin’…

I like Daniel, just not with Jen. They as a couple were a yawner.

I agree; I am tired of Daniel as the Salem “Hero.” Dannifer needs to be retired. Jennifer’s “kids” are adults-need to move out of the ol’ Horton house. Jennifer needs to stop shopping Gran’s attic for her clothes. The wardrobe department has not been kind to Missy Reeves.

Is she back for a while or just a quickie visit? Don’t think she will mesh with nuChad, who I still don’t really like.

I am not excited about the return of Melanie. I have not missed her at all since she left. They only think I can say about her return is, “How will it affect Chad DiMera?” Maybe Melanie will turn the tables on Chad. That would be a plot worth watching!

Meant to type “The only thing I can say about her return…”

I like Molly but kinda had her in mind for the Hope Logan Spencer role that Kum Matula is now leaving. Oh well….

She is some what of a trouble maker but in a good way. I really like her. Hope that she will return.
