WGA and AMPTP Reach Tentative Deal to End Writers Strike

Looks like we are close, very close, to the writing teams at your favorite soap operas returning to their jobs with news on Sunday that finally the WGA and AMPTP have reached a tentative deal. What remains is the fine print, and having the WGA vote to ratify their contracts.
This is welcome news to the television, streaming and motion picture industry that after five months of a strike has put the 2023-2024 TV season in deep water.
In a statement, the Writers Guild shared, “We have reached a tentative agreement on a new 2023 MBA (Minimum Basic Agreement), which is to say an agreement in principle on all deal points, subject to drafting final contract language. We can say, with great pride, that this deal is exceptional — with meaningful gains and protections for writers in every sector of the membership.”
As the deal goes through its final stages, the writers are still technically on strike, but picketing outside studios and shows has now been suspended.

Among the writers’ demands that they fought for are: higher residuals from streaming shows, minimum staff sizes to prevent the use of “mini rooms” and protections from the use of AI. The hope within the entertainment industry is that the new deal for the WGA will move along a new contract for SAG-AFTRA (actors) with the AMPTP. As of Monday, SAG-AFTRA is still on strike.

As for your favorite soap operas, during the strikes, the shows were written by non-union writers or “fi-core” writers who gave up their union benefits in order to continue working.
The next steps in process will see the WGA negotiating committee vote on “whether to recommend the agreement and send it on to the WGAW Board and WGAE Council for approval,” tentatively scheduled for Tuesday. Another vote by the board and council could lift the strike “restraining order”and allow scribes to “return to work during the ratification vote”.
So, are you happy to know that the writing teams from your favorite soaps are about to return to work and helm the scripts and the vision of the shows? Comment below.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES: Alex is Revealed to Be Victor’s Son; How Do You Feel About the Revelation?

By now, Days of our Lives fans have figured out that Alex Kiriakis (Rob Scott Wilson) will be revealed as Victor’s (the late John Aniston) son, not Justin’s (Wally Kurth), on upcoming episodes of the Peacock streaming soap opera.
On Friday’s cliffhanger, after Justin and Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) open the contents from Victor’s briefcase located in Greece, they are stunned to see a brand new will. But, what will stun them even more is that Justin will learn that Alex is not his biological son. In addition, the latest promo for next week’s DAYS, also shows an emotional Justin telling Alex he is not his father.
In the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, Rob Scott Wilson shares on the Kiriakis family bombshell: “It’s such a huge plot twist. Obviously, it’s going to change the dynamic within the family and the power within the business.”

Wilson added on the key scene where Justin and Maggie just found out Victor had a ‘secret’ son: “Justin is definitely freaking out. It’s like he’s just seen a ghost. He wasn’t prepared to read this and then have Alex walk in on it.”
After the revelation, Rob expressed how the relationship between Alex and Justin will never be the same: “It’s like a goodbye to the relationship that we built and established in not too long of a time. It was really heartfelt.”

There will be much more to this story, as Alex tries to process how Victor lied to him while he was alive, and never told him he was his son.
Check out the promo for next week’s DAYS below.
Now let us know, are you happy or unhappy that Alex is turning out to be the biological son of Victor Kiriakis? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

Adam Caine Reprises His Role of Edmund Crumb on Days of our Lives

Here’s a welcome blast from the past! Coming up on Days of our Lives, look for the return of Adam Caine who reprises his role as Susan Banks’ beloved former boyfriend and husband, Edmund Crumb.
It has been 25 years since Adam played the role of Edmund, as he was only on the long-running soap opera for four memorable months.
Now, according to the latest Soap Opera Digest, Caine returns at the beginning of October in scenes with Tamara Braun (Ava) and Steve Burton (Harris). With Ava trying to remember what happened the night Susan (Stacy Haiduk) ‘died’ and her part in it, plus the two being in the run, it shall be interesting just how they try to locate or bump into Mr. Crumb!

Previously, DAYS viewers first saw Caine play the whimsical Edmund Crumb alongside Eileen Davidson’s original version of Susan. Together, they created some of the more hilarious romance segments ever on a soap opera. Eventually, Edmund and Susan married in April of 1998. The couple moved back to Edmund’s home country of England to live and that is the last we have seen of him, that is until now!
So, what do you think will happen when Edmund reappears on Days of our Lives? Will he be reunited with Susan Banks, now played by Stacy Haiduk? Comment below.

Such fun Michael, thanks! I hope the show is a great success and stimulates viewers into taking a peek back into daytime soaps. I’d love for you to interview them all again after Dirty Soap is a couple shows in. It will be interesting to hear their reactions at that point.
Fun interview Michael… thanks! Can’t wait to see the show and I agree with Waverly it would be fun to have you interviewthe group throughout the airing of the series. Or a Dirty Soap podcast would be fun too! Thanks again… always good stuff that you do!
Thanks for a great interview Michael. I’m counting down until the bubbles from Dirty Soap appear on my screen. Kelly and Nadia seem so naturally at ease with themselves and their colleagues. In fact, I’m anxiously awaiting your next interview with this group after their show has aired. Again, thanks for allowing us to look over your shoulder at the Dirty Soap bubbles.
can’t wait to see kelly on dirty soaps
i think kemo break up to her boyfriend mike is a sad one.she has so much hidden pain i feel and i was happy she burn up her prom gown finally.I get why she did this.and i am lovin’kelly more for doing so.
she is a very down to earth woman and i love her alot in gh i hope to love the 2nd episode just as much as the 1st.great job. and great interview Michael Fairman…love your site. i am a regular.

east coast baby!
Just watched the first episode, and it was pretty interesting. I must say though, I’m already not feeling Jenna Gering, Galen’s wife…..I mean, she has been with her husband for 18 years and she was acting like a jealous school girl, when it came to his love scenes that he had to do with his co-workers….it seemed a bit put-on and fake to me….she herself used to model and act, so why is she making such a BIG deal of the scenes, that aren’t even real? Other than that, I found the rest of the cast very interesting. Love the chemistry between Nadia and Brandon, and of course my faves are JP & Farah (Gigi & Rex Forever!!)
Please put AMC andOLTL on a TV station. As soon as ONTL goes off ABC I and so many others will be boycotting ABC because they cancelled best shows ever. ABC should be cancelled as a network
It felt a bit forced. I wonder what Nadia will think after she sees it and sees Farah dissing her party and then showing up and being all ‘congrats!’
I also thought Jenna’s comments about her husband doing love scenes strange. It’s work and they’ve been married for 11 years and it’s not his first time as part of a couple. Yes, she doesn’t like it, but she needs to accept it. And if she doesn’t like to see it, turn the TV off.
I want to know what broke up Kirsten and Farah’s friendship. They used to be peas and carrots.
Torrey, I agree. Actually both Gerings were pretty cringe worthy and boring. He just seemed uncomfortable, and this is a guy who has had to pull off at least one love scene with a male orangutan with less awkwardness. I cannot believe a wife who was around during that, would continue to be jealous 15 years into her husband’s soap career.
Thanks so much, love the show.
I love this show!! I loved it. I was transfixed for 2 hours tonight :-). It’s great to see actor’s outside their characters. I think it’s refreshing to have a married couple on, as the Gerrings. I wish them all the best in their careers. They’re all talented.
It’s obvious a lot of stuff is scripted, not in the sense of dialogue, but storyline wise. So it tends to be cringe-worthy at times. BUT, I do love Nadia/Brandon who seem the most down to earth. And of course, I love Kelly, whom I know broke up with her boyfriend a while ago–but the pain will obviously still be there no matter how long or who you’re with.
I actually think they have a good cast, however I’m not really feeling Galen and Jenna either. They just don’t feel authentic to me–I don’t know, something about them just feels…fake. I said it. Sorry!
I just loved the show. Please bring it back on soon soon. Or email when it starts again. thanks connie
