Nathaniel Marston Continues Struggle & Remains In Critical Condition After Car Accident

Former One Life to Live star Nathaniel Martston is still in very critical condition after the latest updates from his mother Elizabeth Jackson, following his horrific car accident on Halloween weekend.  Marston played Al Holden and Michael McBain on the now defunct ABC soap opera.

The last update posted on Jackson’s facebook page was from November 10th where she related on the status of his health crisis:  “Hello Dear Friends and Family…No change today… Another rough day… Nate is scheduled for a brain scan tonight and if fluid has not dissipated he will have surgery to reduce pressure on brain on Wed Nov 11. Doing my best to remain strong. Must rest now… Thank you soo much for your love , kindness, prayers and positive and generous support. It really means so much to me.. Sending all of you love, light and Gods blessings.XOXOXOXOOXOXO”

Previous to that, in another tough and heartbreaking post, Elizabeth noted on November 9th: ” Dearest cherished friends and family so sorry for not posting a daily update until now, but it has been a really difficult day for me because I had a complete mental meltdown.. Doing my best to stay strong and hopeful and I am back on track, mainly because I can feel your prayers positive, thoughts and love lifting me back up. Thank you! Enough about me… Nathaniel was and is so wide awake and has been since early this afternoon.. In my last post I shared that Dr.s were and remain concerned about fluid build up in his skull due to the brain shearing injury. Because Nathaniel is so much more alert today than he has been this is a really good sign. While Dr.’s have scheduled surgery to alleviate the pressure on his brain by drilling two small hole in his skull for Wed Nov 11. Dr.’s will perform a brain scan on Wed prior to surgery to see if fluid has begun to dissipate on its own..If in fact the fluid is dissipating on its own surgery will be cancelled… so lets continue to pray that this surgery will not be necessary. When I was finally able to get a grip on myself tonight I sat down to reflect on the number of miracles which have already been given to us in the last 10 days. First Nate was thrown from the truck which saved his life.. Not sure if y’all saw the cab of the truck, but if so you understand that had he stayed inside he would have been taken out in a million pieces. (The truck looks like it went through a crusher)…This did not happen and Nathaniel does not have a visible cut or bruise on his face, hands, or feet.. He has a few minor abrasions on his legs.. How does this happen to a man who went threw a windshield??? Gods will and love…that’s how.. Next I found out and this is something I did not know… Nathaniel’s heart is on the right hand side of his body this is called ‘Situs inversus’ and this only occurs in .01% of the human population. All of the damage to his ribs and lungs is on the left hand side of his body. Had his heart been located in the normal place on the left, Nate would not have survived the accident. Next miracle is that Nathaniel has survived two operations and 10 days later he is still fighting the good fight. Finally Nathaniel has reunited our family. My only brother and nephew and I have been out of contact and have not spoken since 2007. As soon as I emailed my brother that Nathaniel was in a horrific car accident my brother and his son were on a plane from NYC with my nephew and were here the same day. Nathaniel’s brother Ikaika, sister Lani and father (not the sperm donor of 40 years ago) and the only father Nathaniel has ever known and a man who has not left the island of Kauai to visit the mainland since 1970 got on a plane and was here the next day…Final miracle happened today when I was able to read Nathaniel lips as he asked me for a Pepsi… Because Nathaniel is still on a ventilator he cant talk or drink a Pepsi, but Praise God because the ventilator in attached to the tracheotomy instead of by tubes down his mouth and throat, I was able to read his lips and understand what he was trying to say.. Pray that Nathaniel is off the vent soon so he can have a Pepsi.. OK? If God was able to raise Lazarus from the dead I feel confident that he can knit Nathaniel’s broken bones back together and heal the damaged nerves in his neck, Right??? Sending each and everyone of you peace, love and light… Thank you for your prayers, love, support and hope.. God is and has been hearing our prayers and I am confident that Nathaniel has a huge mission and that his purpose on this Earth to show us that with God anything is possible… Sending peace ,love and light to each and everyone of you… Warmest wishes, Elizabeth”

Mr. Michael Fairman…do you have any way of allowing me to send a personal message, e-mail, or letter to Nathaniel’s mother? I have gone through some things in my life that I would like to share with her as a way of possibly comforting her or bringing her some hope and faith. If you have any way, or know of any way, please help me. I cry every time I read her posts!

Nick Cannon Daytime Talker Set To Premiere On September 21

More talk shows are coming daytime viewers way come the fall with the announcement of the premiere date for The Masked Singer host, Nick Cannon’s daytime talk show, titled aptly, Nick Cannon.

The company behind the upcoming nationally syndicated series, Debmar-Mercury, says the new show will bow on September 21 and has been cleared in more than 90% of markets in the United States.

According to Deadline: “Cannon’s production company, Ncredible Entertainment, and Debmar-Mercury will co-produce the talker featuring his take on the latest in trending pop culture stories and celebrity interviews.”

Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus, co-presidents of Debmar-Mercury, said,  “Our great station partners are hungry for a rising, versatile and dynamic talent like Nick. His light-hearted style quickly wins over viewers and gives them a much-needed escape from the world.  We’ve been asked why we skipped doing test shows and explained there was no need. It’s obvious to anyone who watched Nick guest host for Wendy Williams last year how much he loves daytime talk and, based on the reaction of fans, how much they love him.”

Cannon added: “It’s been thrilling going through this process, and to see the widespread support that the show has received and the milestones we’ve achieved is mind blowing, We’re gearing up to deliver a must-see show and I’m looking forward to coming to you on your TV this fall.”

‘Edge of Night’ Mainstay Forrest Compton Dies Following Complications From COVID-19

Sad news to report this Monday.  The longtime star of CBS’ and then ABC’s The Edge of Night, Forrest Compton. has passed away due to complications from COVID-19. Forrest died on Sunday at the age of 94.

His death was reported and confirmed by Compton’s friends and an article in the Shelter Island Reporter.

Photo: CBS

As Edge of Night and longtime daytime fans know, Forrest played Monticello’s district attorney, Mike Karr.  He played this key role from 1971 until the show’s cancellation in 1984.  The show was originally titled “The Edge of Night” and eventually just became “Edge of Night”.   The soap which was steeped in murder mysteries ran on CBS from 1956–1975 and on ABC from 1975–1984,   In addition, Forrest along with his on-screen wife, Ann Flood (Nancy Karr) were one of the most popular duos in daytime.

Not only did Compton appear on EON, but he also had soap roles on As the World Turns, One Life to Live and All My Children.   In primetime, Forrest was best known for his role on Gomer Pyle: USMC opposite  Jim Nabors and Frank Sutton as Lieutenant Colonel Edward Gray.

In a heartwarming story where fan meets actor and helps him out (according to the Shelter Island Reporter) Compton was only slated to appear in two episodes a week for the next 13 weeks on The Edge of Night, when he needed an apartment in New York City near the studio, so when he heard about a one-bedroom on East 72nd he went to see Al, the super.  Forrest later learned that Al was such a devotee of  The Edge of Night that he locked his office door every day at 2 p.m. to watch uninterrupted. When Forrest mentioned that he had just been hired to play Mike Karr, the super said, “You’re getting that apartment.”’

Sharon Gabet who starred as Raven on Edge of Night, posted on Facebook, a tribute and remembrance of her former co-star: “Woody, as he was affectionately known to all of us on The Edge of Night, was a master professional, hilarious, smart, kind and gentle. I spoke with him a couple years ago on his birthday and he was active and happy in his retirement. Rest in peace, Woody, and give hugs and kisses to Larkin, Lois, Dennis, Nick, Joel, Irving and all the other EDGE alumni up there.  THE story about Woody. He was on EON when they were LIVE. It was brutal, but Woody was one of the best “straight face” men in the business. So he is doing a scene with Nancy his wife (the glorious Ann Flood – another “straight face” master). He walks in the kitchen and sits down and his line was supposed to be “Gee, it’s hard to get up in the morning.” as Nancy gave him his coffee. Instead, Mike Karr says on national TV, “Gee it’s hard to get IT up in the morning, Nancy.” There was pandemonium among the crew during the commercial break as you can imagine.”

Now below, watch the opening title sequence fro the The Edge of Night over the years, many of which feature Forrest as Mike Karr at the very opening or at the end as one of the series most well-known and beloved characters.

Robert Newman Shares Why There Has Not Been a Return to Springfield & ‘Guiding Light’ On-Screen Reunion

Robert Newman, best known to daytime soap fans as Josh Lewis on Guiding Light, sat down earlier this week for a wide-ranging interview on his career with Lauren Van Hemert via her You Tube Channel.

The timing of the posting of the interview as in-line with the date GL was officially canceled back on April 1, 2009.  The series began its historic run on TV from radio back on June 30, 1952, and ultimately aired its final episode on September 18, 2009.

From 1980 to 2009, Robert was one of the mainstays and key leading men of Springfield, and of course, the Josh and Reva (Kim Zimmer) love story is one of the most popular ever in the annals of daytime drama.

Right off at the top of the interview; Hemert noted that what she was asked most by fans of Newman’s and GL’s, when and if there will ever be a Guiding Light on-screen reunion.

Newman responded to the question: “I get that a lot.  That question is unfortunately in the hands of Procter and Gamble more than anything else … and they made it very clear over the years that they’re just not going to release the characters and copyrights to the show.”

Robert also added, “In terms of what you are talking about where there might be some sort of production, where there’s an actual reunion, and we see where Josh and Reva are today and that kind of thing (on their probably 15th marriage) … unless Procter and Gamble is somehow willing to shake loose the rights to the show, I don’t see it happening.”

Watch the full interview with the talented Mr. Newman below.

Then let us know, since P&G has made it very clear for the last several years they are out of the soap business completely, do you think its time they just sell the rights so viewers can see some sort of reboot down the line, especially for a show as beloved as Guiding Light? Comment below.
