Get ready for some fun and intriguing scenes next week on NBC’s Days of our Lives.  That’s when comedy legend and actress, The Jeffersons, Marla Gibbs (who just received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame) will come to visit Salem in her new role on the soap as Olivia.

But as we find out, Olivia is actually the on-screen mother of another comedy legend, Jackée Harry, who is already front and center on DAYS as Paulina Price.  Viewers will learn when Olivia and Paulina mix it up in key scenes that Paulina is actually the bio-mom of Lani (Sal Stowers).  Comedy fans also remember that Gibbs and Harry both appeared on the sitcom, 227.

Look for Marla to first hit screens beginning on the Monday, August 16th episode of the NBC daytime drama series.

In a preview of Gibbs’ arrival on the scene, DAYS head writer, Ron Carlivati shared with Soap Opera Digest (in the latest issue on newsstands now): “Olivia has basically come to town like, ‘What are you doing here? You never should have come here. We made an agreement years ago and you broke it.’ She comes to school her. It’s great to see Paulina on the other end of it for once.”

Carlivati went on to say of the Lani bombshell: “Because it’s a family secret and something that happened so many years ago, we thought ‘Who is the keeper of the family secrets?’ and often it is this matriarch character. So of course we thought, ‘What about Marla Gibbs?”‘

Though Carlivati wrote the episodes for Gibbs and Harry to play back in the early spring, he was not able to be on set to see the actual scenes taped.  However, he heard from DAYS Co-EP Albert Alaar that Marla did a great job, and she could actually do more if they were to bring her back. Ron expressed: “Apparently, it went very well and I am very excited to see the scenes of these two legends together on-screen.”

Watch the latest DAYS promo below, heralding the arrival of Gibbs.

Now let us know, what do you think of Paulina turning out to be Lani’s birth-mom? Excited to see Marla and Jackée together on DAYS? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

Where is Victor? Maggie better watch out!

DeLonjo,
????????

I miss them too, but what does Maggie have to watch out for?

John Aniston is 88—-while he isn’t technically off the show, he may not be feeling up to par. He rarely appears, and when he does, he is always sitting. God bless him!!
Why should Maggie be worried? Another woman?? Well, one never knows–hmmm
Aside—Henry is a year old. It’s time to get him out of that pram and put him in a stroller, sitting up!!!! That’s child abuse. LOL.How does he fit in there? And, how does a baby that age stay still or sleep all the time? Oh, yeah—-a one-year-old does not wail like a neonate. Henry should be walking by now.

Nice to see these two back together again.Did you notice the number on her apartment? ,it was 227.

Mama sure gave as good as she got from her mouthy daughter. It proves that Ms. Gibbs still has what it takes to hold her own in any scene, God Bless her.

She certainlyis good

She’s awesome!

“Reron”
as he’s called does it again! Revisionist history at its best. I’m sick of his ridiculous storylines.
Marilyn McCoo deserves better than this. It’s a travesty.

Yep; and to top it off that means Abe’s not Lani’s father and Theo isn’t her brother! Ugh; and I cannot stand Chanel regardless of which actress played/is playing her.

I wondered if Paulina were really Lani’s mother, but then I figured that Abe would remember sleeping with her years ago and I didn’t think they had. I’m looking forward to Marla and Jackee scenes!

Mr Abe had women all over town! He was a TRUE playa lol

But I didn’t think he slept with Paulina until now! They never mentioned any past rendezvous.

AJ
Watched the episode on Utube when Hope and Bo got married. Abe was the best man. He was one good looking young man. Of course he still is but I don’t remember him from that time.

Abe isn’t Lani’s father, I don’t think—from the conversation between Paulina and her mother, that was the implication.—-unless I misunderstood the gist of it.

Aside—Watching JAWS 2, right now—I never knew Joseph Mascolo ( Stefano) was in this movie—WOW!! I was caught off guard.

He didn’t. The man who abused Paulina is Lani’s father; Abe now isn’t, and Theo is now not her brother!

Did I miss something? Haven’t watched this but maybe 4-5 years, but did Abe say he slept with both sisters? I’m confused!

That would have been difficult. Abe’s relationship with Tamara Price happened onscreen back in the day. We never saw her sister or any other family members in Salem at the time.

So ReRon being ReRon is about to do something really stupid and now claim that somebody else is Lani’s father. Probably the cruel rich dude Paulina spoke of when she was telling her sob story to Abe after the whole “Price Town” debacle. I’ve heard that ReRon was famous for flipping paternity around when he wrote for OLTL, and of course when he wrote for GH, he tried to write his pet serial killer Frodd into the Quartermaine family, and when that proved to be a major failure, made him a Baldwin instead.

I don’t see what possible valid reason there would be for taking away the one family member that Abe has in Salem, full time. Previous regimes already killed off his wife and the rest of his family (with the exception of Brandon & Theo who live in some other part of the world – at least most of the time in Theo’s case)

I have no idea who Marla Gibbs is-
.

suOOO,
Hi there. Marla Gibbs is a classic from years ago and mostly became known for her role as the maid to a a wealthy African-American family named the Jeffersons who suddenly made it up to the big time. She never complained about ” birthing no babies” but sure gave this family a hard time trying to make her their servent, especially Mr. Jefferson, whom she and his wife had to try continuously keeping him down to earth and the rough times she gave him were hilarious. She’s been in a lot of other things but this show, I always felt made her a star.

Hi violet 🙂
thanks– that would be before my time or I missed it.
but- I have seen the Jefferson on metv while surfing channels..
Seems you’ll be happy to see her on your screen, again
.. enjoy 🙂
Take care be safe ..

Yeah, 227 never aired down here in Hell, but who didn’t love Florence on The Jeffersons. She didn’t take no shit from George!

As an African American I cannot begin to tell you how offensive that comment is. I’m just gonna assume u don’t know any better and leave it at that.

The other lis,
I don’t know whose comment offended you but I can only speak for myself and I stand by my remarks which were quotes from the TV Show and another one from Gone With The Wind. Those were different times and things were not said as they are now and to tell you the truth, I don’t know how to say it in another way.

The comment was not made by you unless you are signing in under different screen names. It was made by someone else. The entire quote has been edited – I can only guess why! I recognize that Gone with the Wind is an American classic and made valuable contributions to the film industry. I also recognize it was a different time and different era and do not wish to see it banned. But in this 21st century the idea of comparing any African American to the happy, smiling, screeching, empty headed slaves in that movie is as offensive to us as the happy, smiling, laughing POWs in a German concentration camp known as Hogan’s Heroes or the ridiculous Charlie Chan movies of the past. Best left unmentioned.

Violet, I took what you said as a compliment to the Florence character not being a stereotype, as Prissy was in GONE WITH THE WIND. I myself have big issues with the constant attacks on GWTW. It’s a picture of a time, not an endorsement for the inhumanity of slavery. The Ashley Wilkes character even expresses guilt over ever keeping slaves, even though he didn’t allow corporal punishment of them. Same with HUCKLEBERRY FINN. You can’t change history by erasing it.

I specifically said Violet did not write the post that offended me and that I did not wish to see the movie banned or erased. But if you think the book or the movie is not a tacit endorsement of slavery you are misguided. The Ashley character you praise is not somehow noble because he doesn’t allow his slaves to be beaten (whipped) for trying to escape for their freedom or was derelict in his opinion in their duties. Ashley is also a member of the Klan. DEFEND THAT! So who is trying to erase history?

As I said, it’s a picture of a time. Granted, a shameful time but historical nonetheless. I like the book and the movie as works of art. I don’t rely on media to form my opinions.

Google her child!

So most likely Lani’s father will turn out to be the dirtbag Paulina spoke of, leaving me to wonder if Lani doesn’t forgive Paulina, what will upset her the most,Abe not being her real dad or Paulina being her real mother?

I’ve read bits and pieces implying that Paulina may have cooked up a little pasta with Stefano Di Mera. What could this mean for Johnny and Chanel?

The actress who played Lexie wanted to leave. I guess they could have recast, but decided not to.

OMG!! I remember Ms. Marla Gibbs playing “Aunt Irma” on ‘Passions’. This is going to be a serious role but really to see a TV-14 version of “mrs Mary Jenkins” getting on “ms saaaaaandra clark”!

Who is Lani’s father then? This is really going to mess her up.

Ray, Paulina’s past bf who was abusive. Yes, this will destroy Lani and Abe, but why did Tamara tell Abe Lani was his daughter if he wasn’t? Of course, at the time he was. 😀

I bet Chanel will talk her mother into financing Johnny’s movie venture. I was dissappointed at Tony and Anna backing out of the deal due to E.J’s influence.

‘Days of Our Lives’ Favorites Making Returns: Alison Sweeney, Christie Clark, Chandler Massey and Bryan Dattilo

Great news for Days of Our Lives fans, now that Ryan Quan is co-head writer of the long-running soap opera. Coming in June of 2027 (since DAYS tapes ten or so months ahead), you can look forward to the returns of Alison Sweeney (Sami Brady), Christie Clark (Carrie Brady), Chandler Massey (Will Horton) and Bryan Dattilo (Lucas Horton).

The foursome is back on set and began last week to tape their upcoming story arc, according to TV Insider. As to what exactly is going on that brings sister Sami and Carrie’s history back up, as well as Will and Lucas’ is only being teased at this time, but suffice to say, it should be intriguing.

Alison Sweeney explained on being back on set, “It was a lot of dialogue and emotion, but with all the best actors to work opposite, we fell into it as if no time had passed. It was really wonderful.”

As to working with the longstanding rivalry of Sami and Carrie, Alison added on working with Clark, “So, it really does feel like we’re sisters. It’s so fun, and she’s such a good actor that she makes everything so natural that you can really disappear into those stories.”

JUST LIKE OLD TIMES

It also seems like the deep-history, which often had the sister fighting for the love of Austin Reed, but that might not figure into the equation this time, or will it?

Alison indicated what she thought of the scripts she was given. “I felt like when I read it, it was a page-turner. I was very excited. There’s a lot of history here, and a lot of things that haven’t been said. So, it’s really not like, ‘Oh, rehashing stuff.’ And now having played some of the scenes, I’m psyched.” Sweeney added, as for the men, working again with her on-screen son, Chandler Massey and Will’s on-screen father Bryan Dattilo, was also extra special.

The last time DAYS viewers saw Sami on the canvas was back in November of 2025, when she revealed she has gotten engaged to never-before-seen Dante Vitali. As for Clark, she last visited Salem for the episodes surrounding John Black’s memorial in June of 2025.

Chandler Massey’s Will Horton last made a visit to Salem in November of 2025 when he attended the gala for the Tom Horton Free Clinic as part of the soap opera’s 60th anniversary celebration. Bryan Dattilo was last seen in December of 2025. So, by the time we see all four again it will be close to two years since they were on new episodes of the series. Time to look forward to June of 2027.

So, excited by the news of Alison, Christie, Chandler and Lucas making a return to Days of Our Lives? What do you think the story will be involving, Sami, Carrie, Lucas and Will? Let us know via the comment section.

‘Days of Our Lives’ Alum Al Calderon Talks On His Daytime Emmy-Nominated Scenes as Javi Hernandez (Exclusive)

Published

Last Tuesday, Al Calderon scored the first Emmy nomination of his career for his role as Javi Hernandez on Days of Our Lives.

Calderon name was announced as one of the performers competing for gold in the Emerging Talent in a Daytime Drama Series category at the upcoming 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards on October 30.

This week, Calderon chatted live on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel for a one-on-one conversation where he discussed: his nominated scenes and time on the Peacock streaming soap opera, his decision to leave DAYS, his role of Nico Silva on Brilliant Minds and its sad cancellation, plus his passing the torch of Javi to Jacob Martinez, who took over the role on-screen on the June 30, 2026 episode of Days of Our Lives.

JAVI REVEALS TO LEO THAT HE HAD A DAUGHTER WHO DIED

Al revealed the scenes that comprise his now Emmy-nominated reel have at its epicenter the heartbreaking moments from the September 12, 2025 episode. In it, Javi shares for the first time to Leo (Greg Rikaart) that he had a daughter named Solana, with a woman he was seeing named Sylvia. One fateful day, Sylvia left their child in a car when she went to work and the little girl died. Javi had blamed himself for not being the parent to take his daughter to school that day since he was hungover the night before, therefore it opened up the opportunity for something to happen to the his child, and it did.

The multi-talented actor/singer explained his reel: “It was the scene where he is talking about his daughter to Leo. I also included the scene where Javi goes to talk to Melinda (Tina Huang) and to see if it would be a viable option to adopt, because I wanted to introduce the subtlety and nuance of why Javi kind of has this whole connection to Tesoro, in a way.”

It is true that Al can bring the tears and make us cry right along with him during his run as Javi.  To that, Calderon added, “I’ve read the comments that I’m a little bit of a crybaby, so I didn’t want the entire reel to be of me crying, but I wanted it to show a little bit of an emotional range of the restraint that Javi was feeling so I included that scene

In addition Calderon shared, “I also included a really beautiful scene with Cherie Jimenez (Gabi Hernandez, DAYS) where I’m looking at photos of Tesoro, and of course, Javi is crying. I just wanted to show the relationship between Javi and his family as well, and as I mentioned the reveal of the child that he lost.”

Alice Halsey

ALUMS AL CALDERON AND ALICE HALSEY REPRESENT DAYS OF OUR LIVES IN EMERGING TALENT CATEGORY

In a twist of fate, Calderon is also nominated in the Emerging Talent category with Alice Halsey who played Rachel Black. Halsey is currently starring in the reboot of Little House on the Prairie in the lead role of Laura Ingalls on Netflix.

As to his hope on Emmy night, Al expressed, “Of course, I want to win, but Alice Halsey is going to give me a run for the money. And if’s not me (who wins the award), it better be her!”

You can check out the full interview with Al below.

Now let us know, do you remember Al’s emotional scenes when he explained to Leo he had a daughter who died, which made it all the more heartbreaking to not end up with permanent custody of Tesoro? What do you think of Al’s chances to win the gold based on his Emmy scene selection? Do you miss him as Javi? Weigh-in via the comment section.

Emily O'Brien

On the latest edition of Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart which dropped on Tuesday, July 21, Emily O’Brien is the featured guest. As soap fans know, Emily has worked with Rikaart both in her first soap role on The Young and the Restless as Jana Hawkes and now on Days of Our Lives in her current role of Gwen Rizczech.

While Emily continues on DAYS, she has very impressive list of credits in the other part of her career as a voice-over actress and one in motion-capture in some of the most popular video games in the world.

O’Brien was first seen on The Young and the Restless back in 2006. She recalled her landing the role which eventually paired her for her five year run with Greg Rikaart.

Photo: JPI

BEING CAST ON THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS

“The role was just a few days and she wasn’t even supposed to be English,” Emily recalled. “The role was originally called Jade. Karen Rae, the casting director of The Young and the Restless at the time said to me “Oh, you’re from England. Try it with the dialect.” I put it on and she said, ‘I’m going to bring you back at like 3 for s callback.’ So then they changed the role to Jana and they said she’s going to be a Brit. I was only supposed to be on for like five episodes and it turned into 5 years.”

In explaining why she loved crazy Jana, Emily shared, “Jana was sort of like the misanthrope. She was just was the odd one out and I loved it. I felt so comfortable playing that because she was just eclectic and weird and she loved playing with Ouija boards and she rode a motorbike. There was just so much color to bring to her. It was just such a great match to play with Greg (Kevin), and Christian LeBlanc (Michael) and Tracey Bregman (Lauren).

GWEN, DIMITRI AND LEO ON DAYS OF OUR LIVES

On Days of Our Lives, the Leo, Gwen, Dimitri dynamic is quite unique and been through many schemes and entanglements. Often Emily finds herself in repartee with her ex-lover, Dimitri, who turned out to be gay and then had a thing for her bestie, Leo (Greg Rikaart)!

During the conversation, Greg and Emily sang, Peter Porte’s praised with O’Brien expressing, “Peter is just ready to play. He comes on set prepared. I’ve never seen him with his script. From blocking and rehearsals, he doesn’t have it. He’s prepared. He’s a physical actor and he always trying to come up with something. I think he let me slap him. He let me kiss him. He let me throw a cheeseburger in his lap. He’s ready for anything for anything.”

You can catch the full episode of ‘Soapy; featuring Emily O’Brien below where the actress also talks about replacing Jen Lilley as Theresa Donovan after being let go as Gwen; and being paired again with Greg Rikaart on the Peacock streaming soap opera this time as best friends and more.

So, were you a big Jana Hawkes and Kevin Fisher fan on Y&R? Did you like them as a couple? Do you like the dynamic between Emily and Peter Porte and Greg Rikaart on DAYS? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
