Next Week: Marla Gibbs Makes DAYS Debut as Jackée Harry’s Mother; Head Scribe Ron Carlivati Shares: “I Am Really Excited to See the Scenes of These Two Legends Together On-Screen”

Photo: JPI

Get ready for some fun and intriguing scenes next week on NBC’s Days of our Lives.  That’s when comedy legend and actress, The Jeffersons, Marla Gibbs (who just received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame) will come to visit Salem in her new role on the soap as Olivia.

But as we find out, Olivia is actually the on-screen mother of another comedy legend, Jackée Harry, who is already front and center on DAYS as Paulina Price.  Viewers will learn when Olivia and Paulina mix it up in key scenes that Paulina is actually the bio-mom of Lani (Sal Stowers).  Comedy fans also remember that Gibbs and Harry both appeared on the sitcom, 227.

Look for Marla to first hit screens beginning on the Monday, August 16th episode of the NBC daytime drama series.

In a preview of Gibbs’ arrival on the scene, DAYS head writer, Ron Carlivati shared with Soap Opera Digest (in the latest issue on newsstands now): “Olivia has basically come to town like, ‘What are you doing here? You never should have come here. We made an agreement years ago and you broke it.’ She comes to school her. It’s great to see Paulina on the other end of it for once.”

Carlivati went on to say of the Lani bombshell: “Because it’s a family secret and something that happened so many years ago, we thought ‘Who is the keeper of the family secrets?’ and often it is this matriarch character. So of course we thought, ‘What about Marla Gibbs?”‘

Though Carlivati wrote the episodes for Gibbs and Harry to play back in the early spring, he was not able to be on set to see the actual scenes taped.  However, he heard from DAYS Co-EP Albert Alaar that Marla did a great job, and she could actually do more if they were to bring her back. Ron expressed: “Apparently, it went very well and I am very excited to see the scenes of these two legends together on-screen.”

Watch the latest DAYS promo below, heralding the arrival of Gibbs.

Now let us know, what do you think of Paulina turning out to be Lani’s birth-mom? Excited to see Marla and Jackée together on DAYS? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

John Aniston is 88—-while he isn’t technically off the show, he may not be feeling up to par. He rarely appears, and when he does, he is always sitting. God bless him!!
Why should Maggie be worried? Another woman?? Well, one never knows–hmmm
Aside—Henry is a year old. It’s time to get him out of that pram and put him in a stroller, sitting up!!!! That’s child abuse. LOL.How does he fit in there? And, how does a baby that age stay still or sleep all the time? Oh, yeah—-a one-year-old does not wail like a neonate. Henry should be walking by now.

“Reron”
as he’s called does it again! Revisionist history at its best. I’m sick of his ridiculous storylines.
Marilyn McCoo deserves better than this. It’s a travesty.

Yep; and to top it off that means Abe’s not Lani’s father and Theo isn’t her brother! Ugh; and I cannot stand Chanel regardless of which actress played/is playing her.

I wondered if Paulina were really Lani’s mother, but then I figured that Abe would remember sleeping with her years ago and I didn’t think they had. I’m looking forward to Marla and Jackee scenes!

Mr Abe had women all over town! He was a TRUE playa lol

But I didn’t think he slept with Paulina until now! They never mentioned any past rendezvous.

Watched the episode on Utube when Hope and Bo got married. Abe was the best man. He was one good looking young man. Of course he still is but I don’t remember him from that time.

Abe isn’t Lani’s father, I don’t think—from the conversation between Paulina and her mother, that was the implication.—-unless I misunderstood the gist of it.

Aside—Watching JAWS 2, right now—I never knew Joseph Mascolo ( Stefano) was in this movie—WOW!! I was caught off guard.

He didn’t. The man who abused Paulina is Lani’s father; Abe now isn’t, and Theo is now not her brother!

Did I miss something? Haven’t watched this but maybe 4-5 years, but did Abe say he slept with both sisters? I’m confused!

That would have been difficult. Abe’s relationship with Tamara Price happened onscreen back in the day. We never saw her sister or any other family members in Salem at the time. So ReRon being ReRon is about to do something really stupid and now claim that somebody else is Lani’s father. Probably the cruel rich dude Paulina spoke of when she was telling her sob story to Abe after the whole “Price Town” debacle. I’ve heard that ReRon was famous for flipping paternity around when he wrote for OLTL, and of course when he wrote for GH, he tried to… Read more »

suOOO, Hi there. Marla Gibbs is a classic from years ago and mostly became known for her role as the maid to a a wealthy African-American family named the Jeffersons who suddenly made it up to the big time. She never complained about ” birthing no babies” but sure gave this family a hard time trying to make her their servent, especially Mr. Jefferson, whom she and his wife had to try continuously keeping him down to earth and the rough times she gave him were hilarious. She’s been in a lot of other things but this show, I always… Read more »

Yeah, 227 never aired down here in Hell, but who didn’t love Florence on The Jeffersons. She didn’t take no shit from George!

As an African American I cannot begin to tell you how offensive that comment is. I’m just gonna assume u don’t know any better and leave it at that.

The other lis,
I don’t know whose comment offended you but I can only speak for myself and I stand by my remarks which were quotes from the TV Show and another one from Gone With The Wind. Those were different times and things were not said as they are now and to tell you the truth, I don’t know how to say it in another way.

The comment was not made by you unless you are signing in under different screen names. It was made by someone else. The entire quote has been edited – I can only guess why! I recognize that Gone with the Wind is an American classic and made valuable contributions to the film industry. I also recognize it was a different time and different era and do not wish to see it banned. But in this 21st century the idea of comparing any African American to the happy, smiling, screeching, empty headed slaves in that movie is as offensive to us… Read more »

Violet, I took what you said as a compliment to the Florence character not being a stereotype, as Prissy was in GONE WITH THE WIND. I myself have big issues with the constant attacks on GWTW. It’s a picture of a time, not an endorsement for the inhumanity of slavery. The Ashley Wilkes character even expresses guilt over ever keeping slaves, even though he didn’t allow corporal punishment of them. Same with HUCKLEBERRY FINN. You can’t change history by erasing it.

I specifically said Violet did not write the post that offended me and that I did not wish to see the movie banned or erased. But if you think the book or the movie is not a tacit endorsement of slavery you are misguided. The Ashley character you praise is not somehow noble because he doesn’t allow his slaves to be beaten (whipped) for trying to escape for their freedom or was derelict in his opinion in their duties. Ashley is also a member of the Klan. DEFEND THAT! So who is trying to erase history?

As I said, it’s a picture of a time. Granted, a shameful time but historical nonetheless. I like the book and the movie as works of art. I don’t rely on media to form my opinions.

So most likely Lani’s father will turn out to be the dirtbag Paulina spoke of, leaving me to wonder if Lani doesn’t forgive Paulina, what will upset her the most,Abe not being her real dad or Paulina being her real mother?

I’ve read bits and pieces implying that Paulina may have cooked up a little pasta with Stefano Di Mera. What could this mean for Johnny and Chanel?

The actress who played Lexie wanted to leave. I guess they could have recast, but decided not to.

OMG!! I remember Ms. Marla Gibbs playing “Aunt Irma” on ‘Passions’. This is going to be a serious role but really to see a TV-14 version of “mrs Mary Jenkins” getting on “ms saaaaaandra clark”!

Who is Lani’s father then? This is really going to mess her up.

Momo

Ray, Paulina’s past bf who was abusive. Yes, this will destroy Lani and Abe, but why did Tamara tell Abe Lani was his daughter if he wasn’t? Of course, at the time he was. 😀

I bet Chanel will talk her mother into financing Johnny’s movie venture. I was dissappointed at Tony and Anna backing out of the deal due to E.J’s influence.

Roark Critchlow on His Return to DAYS and Working With Cady McClain

It’s been 12 years since Roark Critchlow appeared on Days of our Lives as Dr. Mike Horton, the brother of Jennifer Horton Deveraux (Cady McClain). However, fans have been excited to see him back on their screens when the series teased his appearance in the extended fall preview.

Now with Jennifer spiraling downward (now that her pill-popping addiction is back), it seems like a good time for Dr. Mike to return to Salem to help his sis. (And if the promo for this week’s DAYS is any indication, it certainly looks like Jennifer is going to be involved in a car crash and need medical assistance or at least some brotherly love.)

Photo: JPI

Roark initially appeared as Mike back in 1994 and left the soap back in 1999. He returned in 2010 for a few episodes honoring the late Frances Reid (Alice Horton) who was Mike’s grandmother.

In an interview about his return with Soap Opera Digest on newsstands now, Roark talks about working with McClain as Jennifer, when he previously worked with Missy Reeves in the part.

Critchlow expressed on sharing scenes with McClain: “Her character is going through a lot. She and I dropped in really easily, I felt. It was a very nice, natural care for each other. It wasn’t difficult, that’s for sure. Obviously, Missy is a super-duper person. But you don’t compare people. Cady and I chatted. We got on good. In terms of story, I thought we pulled it off nicely as being people who’ve known each other their whole lives.”

Look for Roark to make his DAYS re-emergence on the upcoming October 3rd episode of the Peacock streaming series.

So, looking forward to seeing Roark and Cady sharing scenes together? Share your thoughts in the comment section, but first check out this week’s promo for DAYS below.

‘NBC News Daily’ Hits Rock Bottom In Ratings Premiere Week

While networks have seen a collective erosion over the years of the soap opera viewing audience, they are still the most loyal and fierce of any entertainment genre.

With NBC’s decision to take Days of our Lives off of the network after nearly 57 years, and replace it with another daytime news program, they would surely have a rocky road ahead of them to capture viewers in that time slot; especially now that DAYS was moved exclusively to NBCUniversal’s streaming platform, Peacock.

Nothing was more proof positive of that, than the first week ratings and performance of NBC News Daily.

The news show which premiered on Monday, September 12th came in last for the ratings period of all daytime shows for the week.

According to SON: NBC News Daily averaged 935,000 viewers, was last among Total Viewers and last in the key demo ratings: Women 18-49 (tie) and Women 25-54.

In comparison to DAYS last week on NBC, and a year ago, NBC News Daily was down -744,000 and -762,000 viewers, respectively.

NBC News Daily features the latest national and international news, plus consumer, health, and personal finance segments and is hosted by Kate Snow, Aaron Gilchrist, Morgan Redford and Vicky Nguyen.

So, will ‘NBC News Daily’ find itself facing the same fate as ABC’s defunct ‘Revolution’, which replaced One Life to Live, and lasted only six months, or will the news program somehow turn a ratings corner? Does NBC really care one way or the other? Share your thoughts below.

Alison Sweeney Signs New Multi-Picture Overall Deal with Hallmark

Days of our Lives favorite, Alison Sweeney (Sami Brady) has signed a multi-picture overall  deal with the Hallmark Media.

According to Deadline, as part of Sweeney’s new deal she will star and executive produce A Magical Christmas Village with also stars Luke McFarlane and Marlo Thomas.  The movie will premiere later this year during the Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas.

In story, Sweeney plays Summer, an architect living in a small town where she’s raising her young daughter Chloe. When her mother Vivian (Thomas) finds herself in need of a place to live, her orderly life becomes a little less so after inviting Vivian to move in with them during this transition. Upon arrival, Vivian sets up an heirloom, miniature Christmas village resembling their town, and tells Chloe it grants Christmas wishes. As Chloe begins setting up the figurines, real-life events seem to mimic the scenes she creates, including Summer’s chance meeting with Ryan (Macfarlane), a newcomer to their community.

In a statement on inking the pact with Hallmark Media, Sweeney shared: “I am thrilled to continue to work with Hallmark as they continue to support my work as an actress and as a producer. I’m very proud of our Christmas movie and excited for the future projects to come!”

Lisa Hamilton Daly, Executive Vice President, Programming, Hallmark Media, added:  “Alison Sweeney has been an incredible creative partner for us over the years – both on screen as well as behind the camera as a producer. She’s long been a fan favorite and we can’t wait to continue our work together as we bring new stories to life.”

Sweeney has been making story arc visits to Days of our Lives in recent years.  No word if she will be making a return to the series now that its permanently on Peacock.

So, will you be checking out Alison’s new movie when it comes out in time for holiday season? Comment below.
