Nicholas Alexander Chavez Takes Over the Role of GH’s Spencer Cassadine
If you watched the end of last week’s episodes of General Hospital, you know that the role of Spencer Cassadine has been SORAS’d and is lurking around Port Charles.
The role of Spencer was previously played by fan favorite Nicolas Bechtel since 2013. Now, General Hospital viewers can welcome actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez who takes over the role.
In story, Ava (Maura West) and Nikolas’ (Marcus Coloma) lives together have come a part at the seams from a stalker, who they do not suspect is Nik’s son.
So, in order for Ava to protect her daughter Avery, she left Nikolas and wants a divorce and is doing everything to keep him away from her. Then on Friday’s episode, a masked Spencer was stalking around Ava’s art gallery only to find Trina (Sydney Mikala) there, and later Trina shows up at Curtis’ (Donnell Turner) club opening a seemingly bloody mess.
On Chavez’ IMDb page, it lists and confirms that he is playing Spencer on the ABC daytime drama series.
Please welcome Nicholas as the nuSpencer and let us know if you are looking forward to seeing how the story will play out via the comment section below.
Is he now the same age as Trina, Cam, and Jocelyn ?
He had just better not be older than those 3 !
Brian
Sorry, but he happens to be 21 and Joss just turned 18, not sure about the others. Its crazy that Spencer was a couple years younger than the others growing up and now he’s older? I actually thought he might be even older than 21.
I also found it odd a few days later when Phyllis offers Mike her car keys to drive to Port Charles. When and how did Mike get a driver’s license? For a moment I thought “Mike” was going to say he didn’t have a driver’s license.. but didn’t! Sort of is an invinsible “hole”
Hadn’t even crossed my mind, but you’re right about that. How would Phyllis know if “Mike” even knew how to drive at all?
Not sure how amnesia affects driving skills, but obviously “Mike” doesn’t have a license. And is unlikely to get one without a last name or any other documentation of his identity.
Perhaps Phyllis is trusting enough to believe that “Mike” could make it to Port Charles and back without getting pulled over by the cops. Obviously she doesn’t always stick to the letter of the law herself, as we already know she’s been involved in at least one illegal baby “adoption” in her past.
And then today’s show…aleix and Sean are being abused..but did Nicolas buy and privatize the prison? What gives ?
There are a bunch of inconsistensies everywhere, brian.
Also, Laura calls Spenser’s feelings for Ava an “antipathy”— a mild word, really; compared to what’s in this man-child’s cold heart.—
what Spenser feels, seeded deep inside, is pure hatred—a hatred so powerful, he will use any means to kick her out of orbit.
Laura probably doesn’t want to think that her grandson could be capable of doing anything truly evil… even though she knows as well as anyone what Cassadine DNA can do to somebody. And of course Spencer’s also got Corinthos DNA from Courtney. So that’s a serious combination… even if you have Laura’s own DNA in there to balance him out.
That’s so true. None of us wants to believe the worst of someone we love—-especially our children or grandchildren.
Nonetheless, as you so eloquently point out, , Spencer is a Cassadine and a Corinthos—double dose of baddie.
They were the same age when they went to Lila’s Kids day camp, and then they just aged Cam and Joss! I always thought that was so weird
He was also on the contract section of the cast credits on Friday’s episode. (So still is Wes Ramsey but I’ll stay focused).
Have to keep those spellings straight…
Nikolas: character played by Mary’s Coloma
Nicolas: Bechtel – thanks for many enjoyable years
Nicholas: Chavez – welcome & time to jump start the stale teen set.
Congratulations to Nicholas Alexander Chavez on achieving the role of Spencer Cassadine. I am sure he will be wonderful in the role!
I’m glad Spencer is back on the scene but not sure about “how” he’s back. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out it was him doing all these dastardly deeds to split up his father and Ava though.
It’s about time! With all the other kids aged up to being teenagers, I was wondering when Spencer would join the ranks. And given the GH casting department’s talent for finding phenomenal young actors, I have high hopes for NuSpencer.
Now if only they could bring back Tyler Christopher as Nikolas, that would be wonderful. Marcus Coloma is still not cutting it for me as Nik, I’m not sure what it is about him but he just doesn’t suit the role.
Bechtel actually is a teenager – He’s 16, I think. He looks younger though. Agree about Nikolas, but I think the ship has sailed for Tyler 🙁
I agree Marcus C. is not a good fit for the Nicholas role.
Maybe because Marcus looks so young compared to Tyler Christopher. Now they s.o.r.a.s. Spencer and they’re going to look like siblings rather than father and son.
Carrie
You make a very valid point here.Hard to see them as father and son, and what does he have against Ava, as she and his dad resolved things and fell in love, why are his jockeys in such a twist?
Violet, as I recall, Spencer turned on Ava when she accepted plastic surgery for her burns in exchange for not testifying who “killed” Nikolas. So, if he can forgive his father (has he?), why not forgive Ava as well? Unless I’m missing something.
Soaphound
I had forgotten all about that. Thanks for the reminder. You are right again.
Jimmy
I also miss Tyler and although I like Marcus, he does look the almost 10 years between he and Ava.
can we get Emma back too, she’s college age and it would make sense for her to move away from home and go to school in port Charles. she has grandma Anna, grandpa Robert and Uncle Mac all in the east coast.
I really like the new Spencer
The new Spencer is a great addition to the cast. He really looks like Cassadine royalty!! I look forward to seeing him in scenes with his father and Ava.
While I will always love the old Spencer, wasn’t the same age as Joss way back when? Didn’t they go to Lila’s day camp together?? I’m really liking the new Spenser and looking forward to all the fun summer scenes! Gotta say really want to see Jason and Britt together again… great chemistry! Nice to see Sam and Liz bonding!
Its okay, this kid looks more like he could be Marcus Coloma’s son than Tyler Christophers. I’m sure Bechtel has many other opportunities. If Chavez sucks it will go hand in hand with the recast of Nicholas with the hiring of Coloma. Tyler Christopher isnt hirable. I STILL dont know why they couldnt bring back Nick Stabile. He was actually better than Tyler. But, we the viewers dont have a say, like it or not! Lets give Mr. Chavez a chance and see what he’s got.
Timmm
I actually liked Nick Stabile, especially when he and Ava met on the plane to Valentine’s island, when Nickolas was supposedly killed. I thought they made a much better looking couple than Ava and Marcas Coloma. I remember a lot of the fans didn’t care for Stabile, go figure!
Violet
The issue with Stabile likely had more to do with the age difference with Genie than chemistry with Ava. Although there’s only an 18 month age difference between Stabile and Tyler Christopher, Stabile appeared even older.
Genie Francis (along with Lynn Herring and Kristina Wagner) is aging like fine wine. Marcus Coloma is actually the right age for Nikolas, but arguably looks even younger.
Steve
Fortunate for those two ladies you mentioned. I’ve always said it’s the men that age like fine wine, but the ladies age like old cheese! Every time I pass a mirror, I go, omg, who’s that old hag there?
GH, I have been watching for decades, I do not like that look of Jason and Carley getting married we understand the reason but it is time for Sonny to come home!!! Let him fall hit his head and let his memories come back something. Let Jason and Brit get back together and she finds out she pregnant with Jason baby. Find someone new for Jax other than Nina. No, no, no marriage for Jason and Carley doesn’t look right Nooooooooo!!!!!!
He could have smiled, very handsome btw.
Nu Spencer should at least wear glasses to look a little like previous Spencer. It would make the re-casting of actor easier to accept.
Changing Spencer was a HUGE error. No one can act or steel a simple scene like Nicolas Bechtel. He’s 16 and could absolutely play an 18 year old if needed. He has grown quite a bit and his looks have totally matured. Nicholas Chavez is no Spencer. He is most likely a new actor. It certainly comes across as if he’s learning to act. That would be fine for a new character, but it’s absolutely impossible for him to be Spencer. Definitely no longer interested in his storyline. I’ll just fast forward my DVR through those parts until I see Bechtel back as the only person that will ever be believable as Spencer Cassadine. BRING BACK BECHTEL!!!
Worst thing so far about this SORASing/recast?
Everybody in town (except Trina & her mom, apparently) knows Spencer. Most of them are related to him, by one means or another. And yet he’s all over town… in a crowded nightclub, at the pier, at the cemetery, in a public park, and nobody’s recognized him yet??
The odds of that happening are about the same as a blizzard here in Hell within the next week.
After today’s show and his treatment of Ava, I am so glad we have a new Spencer. I could never see the “real” Spencer act in such a dispicable way, especially claiming to love his father and then going so far out to make him so miserable and unhappy. I think Ava is not buying his act, but has not thought he’d go so far.

GENERAL HOSPITAL Preview: A Shocking Turn Events with Drew Could Spell Curtains for Nina and Willow!

This week on all-new episodes of General Hospital, everything points to Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) emerging from the water able to talk (which we already know he can after Friday’s cliffhanger) and walk, but will it come to fruition?
According to the just released ABC promo for the week of July 27-July 31, several women in Port Charles are in for a shock, but is it Drew coming for payback to Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Willow (Katelyn MacMullen)?
First, in the video preview, after pushing a wheelchair-bound Drew into the lake at the Quartermaine boathouse, Nina looks mortified for what she’s done. She apparently goes to her new beau Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna) for help. We hear Jack say to Nina, “You pushed Drew’s wheelchair into the lake?” A freaked out Nina begs Jack to. “help me cover this up!”

PANIC CITY
Next, Gio (Giovanni Mazza) is on the scene at the boathouse and says, “I found him!” However, a panicked Nina, who is with Jack asks, “Where is Drew now?”
Suddenly, we see a moment of a stunned Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) at the hospital, Trina (Tabyana Ali) on edge at the Metro Court pool, and Scout (Kayden Brenna Tokarski) coming to her grandmother Alexis Davis’ (Nancy Lee Grahn) house and standing tn the doorway stunned, calling out, “Dad!”
Last and certainly not least, Willow is down on the floor of the Cain living room in the dark and is startled, As she turns what seems most likely towards the door, what does she see? Is Drew back in action? Stay tuned.
Take a look at the official GH spoilers for the week below.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Reveals His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy-Nominated Reel Did Not Contain Monica’s Funeral

It’s always tricky deciding what scenes to represent your performances to include on your Daytime Emmy Reel. In the case of two-time Daytime Emmy winner, Steve Burton (Jason Morgan, General Hospital), he knows a thing or two, or three, of what gives an actor the best shot at taking home the gold.
This year, Steve became one of the five nominees for the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Daytime Drama Series category for the upcoming 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards when his name was announced two weeks ago on Extra.
GH viewers know 2025 was a banner year for Burton who delivered very emotional and powerful scenes, which often revolved around the death of Jason’s mother who raised him, Monica Quartermaine (Susan Moore was his bio-mom) in tribute to her portrayer, the late Leslie Charleson.

Some of Steve’s most highly-regarded work came when Jason has to give a eulogy and share his remembrances of Monica at her funeral in front of the Quartermaine family and Monica’s friends and loved ones. It was a particularly emotional day for the cast and crew, where reality and acting blurred the lines.
On the latest episode of the That’s Awesome podcast with Steve and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli, GH), the duo welcomed to the show, a very special guest, Giovanni Mazza (Gio, GH), who himself landed a nomination for the first time in his career in the Outstanding Emerging Talent in a Daytime Drama Series category.
As the three men discussed pouring their hearts and souls into their work and scenes, Giovanni Mazza, said to Burton, “What you did, particularly with Monica’s funeral, I know that whatever prep you did and with everything that you put into it, I know that it was a culmination of everything that you have ever done and experienced, and you put it into your work and everyone saw it.”

STEVE BURTON SHOCKS GIOVANNI MAZZA
Suddenly, Steve had to correct Giovanni, with what might be to some, startling news. However, when you think about it, as Burton explains it made sense. Steve responds to Mazza, “I appreciate that. But what’s crazy was that wasn’t in my reel.”
Burton continued, “I’ve been on the show for so long. I’ve been through so many storylines and there’s times where you do scenes where you’re going, ‘This is good’ And then, when you’re getting feedback from your coworkers and the crew going, ‘Hey, man, that was really incredible,’ you go, “Yeah, that’s probably pretty good. I’m going to take a look at it for my Emmy reel.’ So, that’s all I was focused on for my Emmy reel. I go, “Man, this is so good. I can’t wait to see it. This is it.’ No. It was one of those things where there was a million cutaways.”
“There were no true closeups, really, because they had to include everybody in the scene, which is totally fine,” explained the two-time Emmy winner. “But that was an interesting process for me, because I thought that was it. I thought that was going to be the anchor to the scenes that I submitted, and it wasn’t.”
DID STEVE BURTON USE ANY OF THE SCENES FOR HIS EMMY REEL SURROUNDING MONICA’S DEATH?
As to what scenes were on Burton’s reel, all he would say is, “I had to find other material, which is great. It made me really go through the process. It’s just one of those things. I did use some of that stuff from Monica’s death, for sure.”
However, speaking of the experience to say goodbye collectively to Monica and Leslie Charleson during the funeral shows was something he will never forget. Steve explained, “(The funeral scenes) were definitely a culmination of my experience there, my time with Leslie Charleson, my relationship with Leslie, my relationship with people who were in the scenes with me. The feeling of the crew mourning her also. It was emotionally a lot. I was grateful for that opportunity. It was amazing (to be able to do).”
Watch the full conversation with Steve, Bradford and Giovanni below.
Now, weigh-in: were you shocked that Steve Burton did not include Monica’s funeral? While he has not revealed all of the scenes on his reel, Steve has to be one of the frontrunners, given the other material he did get to play surrounding losing Monica. Let us know your thoughts via the comment section.

‘General Hospital’ Alum Colin Cassidy to Appear in Ryan Murphy’s ‘The Shards’

Ryan Murphy‘s anticipated new series The Shards, based on Bret Easton Ellis‘ prep school thriller novel, will premiere August 5 on FX and Hulu, as well as Disney+ and a very familiar face is set to appear within the series, when General Hospital alum, Colin Cassidy (ex-Aiden Webber, formerly known as Aiden Spencer) took to his Instagram to reveal the exciting news.
Colin shared, “I’m super excited to share that I will be appearing in Ryan Murphy’s The Shards premiering August 5th on FX, Hulu and Disney+! I will appear in episode 5 as Rohmer, a fun lovin’ party animal with a secret! I had a blast working on this project and I can’t wait for you all to see it!”
Cassidy played the role of Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and Lucky Spencer’s (Jonathan Jackson) son on the ABC soap opera on and off from 2024-2025.

The character was written off the canvas to explain Lucky’s sudden decision to travel abroad and leave Port Charles in June of 2025, Aiden went with his dad to get to know him better. During his run on GH, one of Colin’s most memorable scenes occurred when Aiden came out to Lucky after his father had been away for over a decade.
WHAT IS ‘THE SHARDS’ ALL ABOUT?
As for the The Shards, it’s a dark coming-of-age tale with semi-autobiographical facets for Ellis. Set in Los Angeles in 1981, the story follows a 17-year-old version of Ellis during his final year at the elite Buckley prep school. Upending the character’s world is the arrival of a mysterious new student, Robert Mallory, whose unsettling presence coincides with the activities of a serial killer known as The Trawler.
According to the official loglines: “Igby Rigney stars as Bret, an aspiring writer and keenly observant teenager whose reality begins to unravel with the arrival of a mysterious and magnetic new student, Robert Mallory (Homer Gere, the son of motion picture star, Richard Gere), Transferring in just before his senior year, Robert’s appearance coincides with the growing terror of The Trawler, a serial killer targeting teenagers across the city.
Alongside Bret is his elite social circle, which includes Susan Reynolds (Kaia Gerber), Debbie Schaffer (Hayes Warner) and Thom Wright (Graham Campbell), a glamorous and deeply entangled group drawn into a life of wealth, beauty, parties and excess. The promise of their youth is contrasted with the dark and cynical world of the adults surrounding them: Terry Schaffer (Wes Bentley), Liz Schaffer (Evan Rachel Wood) and Steven Reinhardt (Jordan Roth).
You can check out the 2nd official trailer for The Shards below,
So, are you looking forward to seeing Colin Cassidy in The Shards? Do you hope that General Hospital brings Aiden back to the canvas with or without his father, Lucky? Let us know via the comment section.
