OLTL Alum Renee Elise Goldsberry Wins The Tony Award: Watch Her Acceptance Speech!

Courtesy/CBS

Dreams do come true and they happened Sunday night at the 7oth Annual Tony Awards, when former One Life to Live star, Renee Elise Goldsberry (Ex-Evangeline Williamson) won her first Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her role as Angelica Schuyler  in the smash hit Hamilton.

All in all, Hamilton went on to win 11 Tonys last night, just one short of the record held by The Producers. In evening that had the broadcast being dedicated in the honor of the victims of the Orlando Pulse Nightclub mass shooting that featured many memorable speeches, Goldsberry’s was more personal.

In a touching moment, Renee first thanked her mother and father who were at the Tonys with her last night, and made special mention as she wrapped up her speech that, “If you know anything about me you know I have spent the last 10 years of my life trying to have children. God gave me Benjamin, he gave me Brielle, and he still gave me this.”

Watch Renee’s Tony Award-winning moment and acceptance speech and then share your thoughts on her taking home the Tony!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Congratulations!

So, so, so LOVE Renee! She’s so incredibly talented, and it’s wonderful that the world FINALLY gets to see her shine!

LOVE that her soap opera soulmate, Michael Easton, congratulated her on Facebook and showed a favorite picture he took of the two of them.

Do you think Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati congratulated Renee? Do you think they realize what a STUPID decision it was to let go of such a talent??? I sure hope so because that was one of the DUMBEST things they ever did on OLTL!

Congrats, Renee! JOVAN FOREVER!!!

Actually they did congratulate her. Ron called her his favorite actress on his favorite soap. And you do know that head writers don’t make casting decisions.

Also, I think not being on soaps isn’t hurting her any. He dream is Broadway. Soaps were a way to support herself while she chased her dreams.

Renee would’ve lasted longer on OLTL if Ron AND Frank fought for her. We all know that when TPTB want to bend over backwards to keep talent, they do exactly that.

And, that’s a load of crap that the head writers don’t make casting decisions. If they aren’t writing for you, then you don’t have a job. How long is an actor going to stick around if the writers aren’t writing for them? We ALL know the drill.

As far as Renee’s dreams, I’m sure hers are like a lot of actors. They want good, quality material. I’m sure she’s not just limiting herself to Broadway. If OLTL had treated her well and given her quality material, I’m sure she would’ve stayed longer.

she looked smashing…. gussied up

the part that really got me

1. i’m glad my parents are here for me to thank
2. the very end of her speech: “for those of you who know me…. I’ve spent the last 10 years trying to have children…. In 2009 she birthed Benjamin… in 2014 they adopted Brielle. now I get this…. ( Tony )

I was moved .

this is from Wiki… she impresses

Goldsberry was born in San Jose, California and raised in both Houston, Texas and Detroit, Michigan.[1] After graduating from Cranbrook Kingswood School in Bloomfield Hills she went to Carnegie Mellon University, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in theater.[2] She went on to attend graduate school at the University of Southern California, where she received her masters degree in vocal jazz performance.[3] In 2002, she married New York attorney Alexis Johnson.[1] Goldsberry gave birth to the couple’s first child, a son named Benjamin Johnson, in May 2009. She and her husband then adopted a daughter, Brielle, in 2014.[4]

I’m happy with you Renee GoldsBerry ! Congratulations and YES

Hamiliton is bigger than life.. there is so much energy

sidebar : thee truly one love of my life: Jessica Lange… accepted her Tony , as well.

Jessica Lange, winning her first Tony as morphine-addicted Mary Tyrone in “Long Day’s Journey Into Night, said the honor “fills me with such happiness, even on such a sad day as this.”

the massacre in Orlando, Florida : god bless and keep each and every one of you

Congrats and well deserved!

Renee is a phenom. Wish I could get tickets.

What a nice mention of her children; very loving and sweet!

So happy for her, congrats Renee!

Congratulations to Renee on winning the Tony Award. I’m not surprised at her win. Her acting and singing impressed me so very much when she was on One Life to Live. I’m sure this award is the first of many to come.

So deserving a win! Loved her behind the scenes Q and A also.
PS I really loved her on One Life to Live–very professional.

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.

One of her best acceptance speeches of the night. Class act!

How many acceptance speeches did she have?

Clumsy fingers Mo. Thanks for pointing it out.

Congratulations Renee from another Woodie class of 1976. You make us all proud!

You mean to tell me no body every wanted to cast her in an actual musical before this, I know she knows how to sing.

She’s great in HAMILTON. Wonderful news. Congratulations.

Well deserved. You are awsome

What a wonderful speech. she was great on OLTL and I’m sure fabulous in this role. I am so happy for her. I would love to see her in this play, or in anything. But i live so far away from NYC.

OLTL always seemed to have true actors in its cast during its storied run. That is what made the New York-based soaps so great to watch. These were men and women schooled in their craft and it showed. AM sure the LA-based soaps, too, had that, but it seemed moreso in NYC where these artists and storytellers often did stagework at night after days in the studio.

Wonderful for Miss Goldsberry!

REPORT: Nicholas Chavez Not Returning to General Hospital

For those who were holding out hope that Daytime Emmy winner and fan favorite, Nicholas Chavez would be returning to General Hospital after filming his leading role in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters anthology, it looks like those hopes have been dashed.

According to a report from TV Line, although unconfirmed from General Hospital or a representative for Chavez, the actor will not reprise his role as Spencer Cassadine on the long-running ABC soap opera and continue the love story of Sprina opposite Tabyana Ali (Trina, GH).

Chavez was cast as Lyle Menendez over the the summer of 2023 for the second season of Murphy’s limited Monsters series on Netflix. In the upcoming season, the series will focus on the the case of Lyle and Erik Menendez, the two well-to-do Beverly Hills brothers accused of murdering their parents in 1989.

After word from Chavez casting was revealed, GH fans were concerned over the fate of the Sprina story, a spokesperson for GH shared,  “We support Nicholas’ endeavors and look forward to having him return to General Hospital once this project is wrapped.”

In story, the series “killed off” Spencer when he went overboard with Esme to the steely waters below after being injected with a drug, thanks to Esme and falling into the Seine River in France. However, his body was never recovered, and believed to have drowned or washed away. Thus, leaving an opening for Spencer to return in the form of Chavez or be recast down the line.

TV Line shared that ‘multiple sources’ are confirming that Chavez is not returning to the ABC soap opera, which is what many had suspected might be the case once he left for this major starring role in a Ryan Murphy project. Chavez has been relatively quiet on social media for months.

The Michael Fairman Channel spoke with Nicholas Chavez for a virtual interview when he first joined the show in 2021, and spoke to him right after when he won the Daytime Emmy in 2022 – you can see those below.

Wagner added, “That was a great finale to be included in, especially with Heather. If I’m asked to come back, I’d absolutely entertain that.”

Photo: Fox

The original Melrose Place aired for seven seasons from 1992 to 1999. The story featured the residents of an apartment complex, whose lives were intertwined. Eventually Wagner and Heather Locklear dated fro 2007-2011.

As previously reported, the new Melrose Place share that some of original neighbors and friends reunite after a death. The loglines add, “The pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”
