Hi Michael – I’m only getting about 2 minutes when I listen via the link above and when I download via iTunes. Can you help? Thanks, Kris

Thank you ever so much Michael for bringing us, the soap opera fans, this live podcast of the TV Guide Canada Soap Opera Spirit Awards. I truly enjoyed it! I loved the humor, the wit and the pacing of the show. The podcast was most cleverly done and covered a lot of information in a not-to-lengthy format. Kudos to you Michael Fairman, Crystal Chappell, Galen Gering and of course, Nelson Branco for this wonderful presentation.

Thank you so much Michael, this was a wonderfull podcast award I really enjoy listening to the show. Crystal & Galen were tremendous host, and very funny. you guy’s are so down to earth I like that.

Michael, finally got to hear the show…congratulations on putting together a fab show. Crystal and Galen were fun and great additions to the show. Well done to Crystal on winning the various categories, and I was touched by Nelson’s comments of Crystal for Venice. Plus I totally agree that you can tell the calibre of an actor if you are still blown away by them whilst listening to their scene in audio. Everything came together for that graveyard scene, and I am sure that it will live in my memory as one of the standout scenes of tv and film that I was fortunate to witness. Thanks again for a great show.

Thanks, Michael, for a wonderful show! Nelson, Crystal and Galen were witty and charming co-hosts/presenters. I think you should definitely bring this to the web next year!

Crystal Chappell = AMAZING!!!

Great show crystal and galen are great together. Thank you for this.congrats to crystal for all the awards.

Sonya Eddy’s Family Wants Her Daytime Emmy Received Posthumously; Instead of in Hands of Friend and Producing Partner; NATAS Weighs-In

A situation has been brewing for just who will have possession of the gold statuette won posthumously by General Hospital’s Sonya Eddy. The late actress won for her Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her performances as Epiphany Johnson at the 50th annual Daytime Emmy Awards back on December 15th, 2023, close to the one-year anniversary of her death.

Sonya died on December 19, 2022 from complications following a non-emergency surgery. Now, Eddy’s family wants possession of the Daytime Emmy that was accepted at the ceremony on Eddy’s behalf by her longtime business partner and friend, Tyler Ford.

According to TMZ, Sonya’s brother, Robbie Eddy shares that there are no plans to take legal action against Ford, but the entire family was working to get the Emmy into their hands.  The article cites that Eddy contacted the “Television Academy”, but the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences administers the Daytime Emmys, and that he wishes they would have informed the family she was going to win the Emmy beforehand, but as fans know, the Daytime Emmy winners are not known to the actors prior to the opening of the envelope on Emmy night.

Apparently, the family wants Tyler to do the “right thing” and give them Sonya’s Emmy Award. While the outlet reports that Sonya’s 84-year-old mom will have the award, since she she allegedly helped “sponsor Sonya’s Hollywood Career.”

The report shared that their sources say that Sonya was actually “estranged from some family members when she died,” and that she “wasn’t getting along with her brother because they were fighting over who was going to provide and care for their mom, who has Alzheimer’s and dementia.” Sonya’s brother says they were working on repairing their relationship when she died. After the family dispute with Ford came to light, NATAS came forward an issued a statement, according to Soap Opera Network.

The statement read: “Consistent with the Trademark Policy engraved on the base of each statuette, NATAS has made arrangements with the producers of General Hospital for the Academy’s safekeeping of Ms. Eddy’s statuette in her memory.”

Tyler Ford accepted Sonya’s Emmy at the 50th annual Daytime Emmys telecast and expressed: “Accepting these flowers is bittersweet. I know that Sonya would only relish in the sweet. I want to thank Frank Valentini more than anything for being a faithful friend, and Disney/ABC and the cast and crew of General Hospital for embracing her for 16 years. I want to thank the Academy for acknowledging her contribution and craft. Sonya never aspired to be an actor, and when while her talent was undeniable, I’m sure that she is more overjoyed by being remembered for how she made people feel on-screen and off. Thank you.”

When Eddy passed away, Ford took to Facebook and shared: “People always leave. Whether by circumstance or cessation, endings are one of the consistent certainties of life. Time and time again I underestimate the gravity of dispossession. The darkest hours however are without question the most illuminating. It has been a year since the passing of my best friend, professional partner and creative soul-mate Sonya Eddy. Aside from my initial public statement to the press and various news outlets I have remained silent. Truth be told, my entire psyche was recalibrated. For the first time, I was adrift at sea without a shore in sight. Uncharacteristically purposeless and apathetic. We were partners, not only on paper but in life. Together, we forged through many fires and her resiliency was nothing short of inspirational. If I had one wish it would be for her to have experienced the impact she made. The adoration. The respect. The love. Silently and without conscious awareness, someday becomes today. And then someday becomes yesterday. And thus unfolds your life. While our unified force will never be replicated, I will do my best to honor your legacy and finish what we started.”

So, what do you think about this war over Sonya’s Eddy? Should it go to where NATAS said it will be stored at GH, with Sonya’s longtime friend and producing partner, Tyler Ford, or should it be given to Sonya’s seemingly estranged family? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

DAYS Kate Mansi Learns The Ropes Of Directing A Multi-Cam Soap In New DOOL App Series

She has won a Daytime Emmy for her stellar performances as Abigail Deveraux, but now as many know, Kate Mansi has been spreading her wings as a director behind-the-camera.

Mansi follows on the heels of such fan favorite actresses as: Alison Sweeney (Sami, DAYS), Heather Tom (Katie, B&B), Cady McClain (Dixie and Rosanna Ex-AMC and ATWT) and Kimberly McCullough (Robin, GH) all who have eventually gone on to direct daytime and primetime episodes  of noted and successful series.

In the new DOOL app four-part series, From On-Stage to Behind-The-Scenes with Kate Mansi, the talented young actress learns the rigors and demands of working behind the camera in the fast world of daytime drama from Days of our Lives‘ director (and another Emmy winner) Sonia Blangiardo, who mentors Kate through the process.

The series talks about the current movement of having more female directors getting opportunities and be recognized for their work in film and TV, and the challenges a soap opera director faces every day: from dry block, where they work with the actors, working through their shot lists, and the ensuing problems that can arise in any production on the day to day.  But in soaps, the pressure is really on, because there is not much time to re-shoot things and to get them right.

It’s a fascinating view of what goes on at as the director bring their vision to life in the world of soap in a realistic way.  Make sure to download the DOOL app to check out Kate’s journey.

Now below, let us know if you saw the first episode of Kate;s directing journey on the DOOL app and what you thought of it? Look for new episodes to be posted every Thursday for the next three weeks.
