Michael, just got through listening to your podcast. It was great fun and I was anxious to hear who the winners were in your SOS awards. Nelson Branco was the decider of the award and worked along with you to bring us a different and relevant award show. I was pleased that Florencia was chosen as best actor in her category . I probably wouldn’t have given best actor to Michael Muhney. I was very pleased that Lexi Ainsworth won. She really had a tough story line on GH, as did Chad Duell. But both actors were outstanding. But, My… Read more »

Michael, I am very pleased that you have the distinction of taste to support and recognize Florencia.

Michael, I loved listening to the show. I love hearing your voice. The only show I watch is Y&R, so I don’t know the other charactors, but I enjoyed the dialog. Keep up the good work. Joanie M.

Dear Michael, thank you for this cute interview with Eric (Sheffer-Stevens). And it´s so cute and awesome (and well-deserved), that Eric won the SOS Award. I so much loved to hear his voice again.

Another great podcast!!! The spirit awards were very fun and very accurate. I love that Florencia won! Lexi Ainsworth and Jonathan Jackson were also the only choices to win in those categories! Loved the interviews and the hosts! Thanks Michael!

It was truely wonderful to hear from ESS again. I am very happy that he won the SOS. His portrayal as Dr Reid Oliver will never be forgotton … and the mantra of Reid’s true fans will be “What train?”

I can’t believe that Van Hansis was omitted once again.i think it’s a tragedy that the old saying out of sight , out of mind is proving true.To me Van was the total package, good looks, great acting, and believability. He deserved to be rewarded for the marvelous work he put out for the last 5 years, but especially in 2010.I miss him like so many others and can’t believe there was no mention of him in these awards.Shame on those that put these awards together. And to let Brooke/ and Stephanie win over Luke and Reid is a crime.People loved the… Read more »

As you predicted, your readers (at least a big portion of them!) were pleased by the selection of Eric Sheffer Stevens 😉 However, I wanted to comment more broadly on the whole podcast. I thought the whole thing was really well done. I really appreciated hearing Nelson’s thoughts (as well as the other hosts’) and it came across as very thoughtful – that responsibility was taken to pick the best candidate, not just the favorite one. I agree – the Emmy process is broken. I know many of the actors don’t even watch their own shows, much less the other… Read more »

Interesting take on the web soaps. You are right. It doesn’t seem fair.

Actually Venice was 12 episodes ranging in 12 min to 21 min…in total season 2 gave the fans over 3 hours of original story.

Thanks for the correction, but the argument doesn’t change. Putting 180 (or even 244) minutes up against 200 episodes x 40 minutes still doesn’t seem like an apples to apples comparison to me.

Days Of Our Lives

DAYS Wally Kurth Delivers ‘The Power Performance of the Week’

Mark our words! Next year, Days of our Lives Wally Kurth (Justin Kiriakis) will once again be nominated for a Daytime Emmy for this week’s emotional and deeply-touching work on key episodes of the NBC daytime drama series.

As viewers saw, this was to be the happy nuptials of Justin and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), who found love again after losing the previous loves of their lives.  They were dear friends to begin with, who through a set of horrific circumstances, found comfort with one another which eventually turned to love.

Photo: JPi

Problem was; Justin overheard Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso) before the ceremony discussing Steve’s (Stephen Nichols) feelings for Kayla and that he wants her back; something Kayla is unaware of.  So what will he do?  The noble thing and tell her the truth, or keep it to himself and marry her anyway?

As the Intel of what he learned weighed heavier and heavier on Justin, in the most dramatic of moments (when he was to say his “I do’s”), Justin stopped the ceremony and bared all to Kayla: that Steve wants her back and how Steve saw him propose to her and that is why he backed off.  Armed with the knowledge and that her friends and family kept it from her, Kayla does not know what to do.  Justin helps made it easy and clear for her when he questions her … if they would be standing here getting married, if Steve had told her his true feelings before Justin proposed to her?

Justin goes on to say to Kayla that maybe she has been avoiding her true feelings for Steve, because she did not want to hurt him.  Then Justin tells Kayla that he visited his late wife Adrienne’s (Judi Evans) grave, and told her that if things were different, and if she was alive they would still be married, and Kayla would be their dear, dear friend.

With seeing the look on Kayla’s eyes, Justin knows she loves Steve.  Heartbroken, but caught in an untenable situation, Justin tells Kayla he is happy for her.  Kayla wraps her arms around Justin as they both cry.  Kayla says she never wanted to hurt him, and when Wally as Justin says, “I know, honey,” it was one of the most honest and ten-hankie moments of the entire scenario.   Justin kisses her, tells the guests there will be no wedding today, and exits the Kiriakis mansion.

The emotional drama continues in the aftermath as Justin is at Kayla’s apartment boxing up all of his belongings and tears up recalling their nights together listening to jazz and cooking dinner.  Sonny (Freddie Smith) finds his dad, and tells him he did the noble thing and that time will heal all wounds, but after Sonny leaves, Justin breaks down a bit further before exiting Kayla’s for good.

And if that was not enough, Justin goes back to Adrienne’s gravesite to update her on the wedding that did not happen.   He talks to her that he understands Kayla and Steve’s deep and enduring love, which was just like theirs was.  Next, Justin thinks he is seeing Adrienne, when none other than Bonnie Lockhart (Judi Evans) reveals she is back in Salem – talk about kicking a guy when he is down!

Throughout this entire saga, moment to moment, Kurth delivered raw, genuine, adult emotions, in a very complex adult story and relationship.   In fact, the cast and crew thought so, too!  When Wally as Justin told Kayla that he can’t marry her and the speech that followed and his exit from the mansion that followed, all those on set applauded for him.  His work was that moving.   Wally was ably assisted throughout by the outstanding work of Mary Beth Evans in these scenes.

2020, while a difficult year for everyone thus far, has been a particular great year for Kurth on Days; as over the last six months he has really had a chance to shine in this story.  So for all of these reasons and more, Michael Fairman TV gives the “Power Performance of the Week” kudos to Wally Kurth.

Did you love Wally’s performance this week on Days? Did you reach for the hankies? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

DAYS Wally Kurth, Mary Beth Evans & Chandler Massey Take You Behind the Scenes of Kayla and Justin’s Wedding

On Wednesday’s heartbreaking episode of Days of our Lives, viewers saw just how the nuptials of Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and Justin (Wally Kurth) eventually wound up!

Justin told Kayla that Steve (Stephen Nichols) still loves her, which put a halt to the proceedings and ended the romantic relationship between the two dear friends, who found love with one another following Adrienne’s (Judi Evans) death, and Kayla believing Steve did not want her back.

Now, The DOOL app has posted a rare behind the scenes view of the making of the wedding – with moments from the key scenes, rehearsals and interviews with the cast involved.

Chandler Massey (Will) weighs-in on Will’s debut as a wedding officiant and how that went south, while Mary Beth Evans and Wally Kurth shared why they loved this storyline so much.

Wally expresses how the last six months have been some of the best storylines of his soap career, while Mary Beth says that Justin and Kayla’s relationship was so adult and that in real life, both actors have known about people who fall in love with their dear friend, after losing their significant other whether it be by divorce, or death, or whatever the circumstance.

If you don’t already have the DOOL app on your mobile device to watch the segment, you can get more info to download here.

We will have more to say on the memorable performances at Michael Fairman TV later in the week.

So, what did you think of Kayla and Justin’s wedding and the fallout? Comment below.

DAYS Mary Beth Evans & Stephen Nichols with Guest Ron Carlivati Talk Stayla’s Greatest Hits & Approach To Scripts During COVID-19

This week is a pivotal one for Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) on Days of our Lives.  Will they be reunited once again?

To take a stroll down memory lane of reunions past, Mary Beth Evans along with her longtime on-screen scene partner and dear friend, Stephen Nichols, watched back key scenes from the history of Stayla and offered up a second viewing experience as they commented on the clips.

Later, Mary Beth and Stephen are joined by their surprise guest and it is revealed to be Days of our Lives head writer, Ron Carlivati!
