‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

Monday on Entertainment Tonight, the second set of nominations for the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards were announced which included the highly-coveted Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actress and Outstanding Daytime Talk Series.
ET followed suit after Extra announced the nominees, as previously reported, in the Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actor and Outstanding Daytime Talk Host.
Now, five leading ladies of the soaps are vying for the gold for Lead Actress and the category marked the first-ever nominations for CBS daytime’s Beyond the Gates when two actresses made the final cut. Only General Hospital is not represented among the actresses this year after Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) took home the trophy last year.

i can’t wait till april 29 2013 one life to live will be back. last night i told my boyfriend this should be a huge hit. david vickers i am so happy that he is back on one life to live reboot. viki how i missed you so much. erika slezak kick dorian’s ass lol. robin strasser you diva. i missed you to my darling. bring back sexy foxy roxy soon please. i love ilene.
Ditto to all the above. Plus, Tea needs Victor (TSJ). We all need TSJ.
No, we don’t and neither does the show.
IF RH had of been Todd the entire time, the show wouldn’t have gotten cancelled. TSJ Todd rode the show into the ground, RH coming back is what made it possible to be revived online.
THANK GOD FOR HOWARTH!!!
I love RH as much as the next person and was very happy when he returned to OLTL in 2011. However, there’s no way to know if his leaving the show 8 YEARS before had anything to do with it being canceled. I get it, you’re not a fan of TSJ. That’s great. But when ABC canceled OLTL, it was their #1 soap, so I’m not sure TSJ “rode it into the ground”. As much as I love RH, I certainly hope the show’s online success isn’t tied to his return, as he’s only back for a few weeks before returning to GH.
Victor is alive(TSJ or recast?) Did Mathew do something to Dani? Maybe he got her pregnant after he dumped Destiny or got drunk and sexually asaulted her? Teas baby not dead? Maybe Dorian cheated on David with a well known married politician and is being blackmailed, and its the affair Jeffry King uncovers about Dorian after the politician was found murdered! David learns Jeffry is his son!
oh how I wish Teas baby were alive, nice thought even if it seems far fetched, but then again, this is a soap, and oh to see TSJ/Victor again!!!
What in the trailer hinted towards TSJ Victor?
I thought perhaps the ‘something suprising’ could mean Todd and Tea learn Victors alive or maybe the baby? Justa guess!
Its in the teasers mention about some suprise…i didnt watch the trailer!
Okay guys, I hate to say this, but Natalie looks like she’s striking a Barnabas Collins pose.
What does that mean? Barnabas Collins pose? Why because she looks so serious?
Hey, that comment about my all time favorite antihero Barnabas Collins compared to Natalie sucks…shes her own monster! lol
ok!!!!!!!
I’m ready to watch at 10:30pm in my pj’s with pop corn, or tea!!
It’s so great to be able to watch when the busy day has ended and it’s time to relax and all my attention can be on my 2 soaps via HuLu Plus .. 🙂
OLTL starts at 12:00pm 4/29..
I am so glad that OLTL is comin back! I hope Natalie and John get back together again for the sake of their baby, Liam. That would be really great!
Who’s David’s son anyway?
I, also, hope Jessica’s coming back with her daughter, Bree and son, Ryder.
I, also, hope that Jessica is going to get together with Ryder’s dad. I hope they get together with each other, too.
Wouldn’t it be great if twin sisters Natalie and Jessica have a double wedding ceremonies and get married at the same time with John and Ford.
Please let these two couples get back together and be together for the sake of their babies.
Ford’s dead. He got killed by Mitch Lawrence in the last week of episodes. And yes, I know, it’s a soap and people come back to life all the time, but I don’t think Robert Ford is one of those characters!
Natalies going to be with Cutter…Fords dead and in Hell…but Brody isnt! I think Davids son will be Jeffry King?
I don’t have much hope for a John/Natalie reunion since Michael Easton is staying on GH, but it would be nice for Jess and her kids to be back. Although I’m not sure about a double wedding. The one they had in 2011 didn’t end well for anyone.
Since the soaps OLTL and AMC are both going to be on HULA for free on the internet. I was wondering what time will the soaps be on the internet so I can be able to watch them.
Does anyone know what time they are going to be on the internet so I can watch them?
Also, as for the “JOHN, TODD, STAR name thing for OLTL and GH how about this suggestion: they could be distance relatives or something like that.
As for the old saying: “Everyone has a twin, somewhere in the world” and that could exist either in GH or OLTL.
You watch when it is good for you. Hulu usually carries the latest 5 episodes. I read that the first episode will air at 12:30 pm on April 29th. Hope this helps.
I read on this site 4/29 at 12:00P.M. (OLTL)….
1. I like the sets
2. I don’t like Dani getting back with Matthew they were good before because of the nice young love story and actor chemistry with a Matthew recast that chemistry is gone and any need to pair the 2 is gone with it. And aren’t Dani and Destiny best friends??? WTF
3. I hope they don’t have Dani and Todd make amends.
4. I don’t like the overuse of the clubs.
5. I don’t like the excess sex and drinking by Dani and Matthew the 2 are still 19 I’m a teen and I still don’t like them adding that. Strip poker? Really?
6. Who was the brunette Todd had sex with? Please let it not be Tea because that would be far too wrong.
7. We need VICTOR I feel like he would bring the grounding to the show they need I’m sure Dani has been doing w.e she wants with whatever guys that won’t fly with my main man Victor. We need him back VICTOR!!!
8. Love Vicki and Clint like always.
9. I can tell I won’t like Matthew in this.
10. Great to get a look at things but I just am not as excited as I was before after watching this I don’t know why, will still be watching though.
11. Is Tea’s baby alive or was she mourning him by looking at his crib? Are they going to continue off of what happened in GH? Or are they going to work off of GH??
P.S. We need Trevor St. John
P.S.S We need Trevor St. John
P.S.S.S We need Trevor St. John!!!!!!
way to be open minded. You haven’t even seen it yet and are already bitichin’!
I’m not “bitchin” I am just giving my criticism there are just as many positive comments as negative. I am still very excited for the show get off my back and stop trying to feel cool by being a doosche.
I agree with alot of your comments…i dont see how that person thought you were bitchin? These were good honest comments! Maybe it was just her time of the month…lol
Thank you JimH maybe it was her time of the month lmfao
I guessing the first episode is like will be just catching up what anyone been up to in the past year.
Great teasers. The behind the scenes show for Friday is a great idea. Can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fridays sound great!
I’m confused. I read people on this site say that what happened on GH wasn’t going to happen on OLTL. John & Natalie would be together and so would Blair and and Todd. Tea is clearly grieving in the preview. She lost her baby on GH. So the GH storyline does remain?
Many of us are just guessing…we’r not sure what will really happen but some of us are hoping…
I just noticed on the trailer at about 1:29 there is a mystery guy whose face is on purpose blurred out. Could that be TSJ/ Victor? I hope so. You guys might want to check it out
I have recorded and watched this program for 30 yrs. Now I cannot. Am I really able to watch OLT for FREE on Hulu, as advertised? Or, is the advertisement just a teaser, and the people who have waited for so long, wind up “paying” to watch this afterall? We have gone without this program for so long now, that having to pay to watch it, and then sit at the computer to watch it (instead of a comfortable place as done previously), it really is not a cost benefit. Can’t afford to pay to watch movies period. Please reply that this program, as well, as AMC will be a FREE program for viewers to watch and enjoy.
Thank you.
Oh, one more thing. Does anyone know if there is any way to record programs off of the internet and watch later? I have a serious sciatic problem ( several surgeries needed in back) and causes pain going down both legs and arms and into feet and hands if I sit too long (more then 15 min), so sitting at the computer is not longer an enjoyable place to sit.
Recording would be most helpful.
Thought I would ask.
Thx.
