So, we are just a little over two months away from the much-awaited premiere episode of season four of the Emmy winning Downton Abbey!  While the folks across the pond are already seeing all-new episodes, here in the U.S., we must wait till January 5th, 2014 when Masterpiece on PBS begins the season!

In this first promo, some scenes from the original season four promo in the U.K. and some new clips are put together in a :30 second promo, that leaves us wondering … what will happen for Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery)?  Will she find new love?

As viewers know, season four picks-up several months after the death of Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens).  How will his death impact the ability for Mary and others to move on with their lives?  What scandal will fall into the upstairs and downstairs of the “Downton” crew?

Watch the new PBS promo after the jump! Then, let us know will you be watching on January 5th?

I’m so hyped up for the new season! This is by far the best prime soap to come along in a long time. This is my favorite and Madmen is my 2nd favorite.

Where can I find Season 3? My Comcast On Demand only has one and two. I watched them this summer and love this show! But can’t find season 3 anywhere. My daughter even checked on Hulu Plus and Cinema Now for me. Not there either.

Roz – try your local library. You might be able to borrow the dvds for free. I just borrowed Season 2.

You can watch season 3 free if you have Amazon Prime, which costs about $80.00 a year but gives you access to all kinds of TV shows and movies.

I also can’t wait for season 4 in January!

Very much anticipating this program’s return…I’ve been reading all the spoilers and show reviews in the British press, and they sound, for the most part, quite intriguing and interesting. There are a few unpleasantries that I certainly could do without, but also some wonderful developments. Always a great treat to experience….particularly after once again viewing all three seasons (of reruns) on PBS this past summer.

Unfortunately, I’m just not as interested in Season 4. Where can the show go from here? They killed off BOTH of the couples I was rooting for!

IT’S OFFICIAL: Downton Abbey The Movie To Go Into Production This Summer

The highly-anticipated and rumored revival of Downton Abbey to the big screen is on!  Production is slated to begin later this summer.

From what we understand, all of the original cast is set to reprise their signature roles in the motion picture, written by series creator Julian Fellowes.

Fellowes will also serve as the executive producer along with other ‘Downton’ notables behind the scenes: Gareth Neame, Liz Trubridge, and Nigel Marchant. Brian Percival is set to direct.  Percival also directed the pilot episode of the critically-acclaimed and beloved period soap opera series.

In a statement, Gareth Neame expressed: “When the television series drew to a close it was our dream to bring the millions of global fans a movie and now, after getting many stars aligned, we are shortly to go into production.  Julian’s script charms, thrills and entertains and in Brian Percival’s hands we aim to deliver everything that one would hope for as Downton comes to the big screen.”

Focus Features chairman, Peter Kujawski, shared: “Since the series ended, fans of Downton have long been waiting for the Crawley family’s next chapter. We’re thrilled to join this incredible group of filmmakers, actors and craftspeople, led by Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neame, in bringing back the world of Downton to the big screen.”

Downton Abbey ran for six seasons on PBS  and received 15 Primetime Emmy awards and 69 nominations.

Actress Joanne Froggatt, who plays maid Anna Bates, took to Twitter with much enthusiasm at the news: “Delighted to announce we’re getting the band back together! #DowntonMovie #DowntonAbbey”

It looks like all of those earlier reports months ago about a production being put together for Downton Abbey: The Movie, may finally becoming to fruition. Numerous items detail that motion picture project is moving forward with production slated for sometime next year.

Michael Edelstein, president at NBCUniversal International Studios, told the AP: “We are working on getting the script right and then we’ve got to figure out how to get the (cast) together. Because as you know, people go on and do other things. But we’re hopeful to make a movie sometime next year.”

Currently, the cast and writer Julian Fellowes have been on hand at the Downton Abbey exhibition which debuted in Singapore. However, some notable members of the company seemed surprised by the news including Laura Carmichael (Edith): “Well, tell my agent, because we’re still waiting to know. We’re hoping that will happen soon.”

Variety reports that an NBCUniversal spokesman confirmed the studio hopes to put the movie into production in 2018.

The Downton Abbey exhibition however, is set to travel to the United States and Australia with dates to be announced. (more…)
