Popular Favorites MIA After The First Round Of Voting For The Daytime Emmy Pre-Noms!

All day long we have been tracking and keeping tabs on social media, fans comments, and within the industry of some of the glaring omissions and performers who many have noticed that are MIA from the first cut for contention for this year’s 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Award Pre-Nominations.

Two women from General Hospital, who many felt were a lock to be part of the highly competitive Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series Pre-Nom list did not make the cut.  We are speaking of the beloved Kirsten Storms (Maxie) and Kathleen Gati (Dr. Obrecht), who this past year gave stellar performances throughout their storylines.

The TOLN online version of One Life to Live only scored nominations in the Younger Acting categories, however performances in Lead Actor and Actress from Jerry ver Dorn (Cint) and Florencia Lozano (Tea), and Supporting Actor and Actress, Tuc Watkins (David) and Kassie DePaiva (Blair), failed to move on for a slot on the pre-nom ballot.

In addition, in celebrating her 35th anniversary with The Young and the Restless this year, Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) did not land a pre-nom slot in the Outstanding Lead Actress, nor did The Bold and the Beautiful’s Don Diamont’s (Dollar Bill Spencer) in the Outstanding Lead Actor category Pre-Noms, and both were heavily in storylines throughout the eligibility year.

Another name everyone was talking about today was General Hospital’s Brooklyn Rae Silzer (Emma). It is our understanding at this time from reports, that Brooklyn was not entered into the competition.  Therefore, she was not left off the list of  the Pre-Nom finalists in the Younger Actress category.

This year, the quality of work we hear was exceptional and made for highly competitive categories, which in turn, unfortunately, means some people’s Emmy journey ended earlier than had been anticipated.

So, who do you think was the most glaring omission from performers who were entered into the race for the this year’s Daytime Emmy gold? Let us know!

Kirsten Storms is so much better than half the people on that list.

I agree Louisa. Her omission from the list is very odd. Doesn’t make a bit of sense, this was Kirsten’s year!

Agreed. She is such a wonderful actress. She has so much range and depth. She can do more with a facial expression, smile or a hand gesture than most can do with words. She is just such a pro. I hope when she returns they do her justice and put her front and center where her talent belongs.

GH needs to just stop with the newbie experiments that just don’t cut it. Sabrina is just such a terribly uninteresting character and the actress does not have the skill to warrant the story she was given. And the obsession TPTB have with Kirsten Alderson is perplexing.

Regardless of the nominations (who knows what kind of politics plays into these things, but you can be sure there are) Kirsten is just a wonderful actress and the quality of GH will improve immediately the day she comes back.

IA. Kristen should have been recognized over the likes of Tracy, Jessica, Steve, Doug-ugh! They don’t need to televise it, they should do it over YOUTUBE and announce the winners from there, and they can be at home and have someone deliver their Emmy. The End.

Im happy Sharon Case was on the list. She is a wonderful actress

In my world the Daytime Emmy Award is pure bull..
Too many great performers are left out and too many bad judgments are made from the ”opinions” of a few which some perhaps are not even soap fans..
I would be OK with dumping the Daytime Emmy Awards..
But- they seem to be a money maker so doubt they be flushed..

((I feel the choices of actors nominated is a bit insulting to some great actors who were not recognized for their great performances)

like I said- it is all bull ..

Did Roger Howarth not submit for his work as Todd on OLTL? I found his nuanced work there so much more compelling than the mostly campy OTT work he’s done on GH. Surprised he would ignore the superb work he did in his icionic role in favor of the Franco theatrics.

ABC wouldn’t let him submit for Todd on TOLN

Source?

Actors are allowed to submit themselves. Not sure how ABC could stop him, if he wanted to.

If RH’s current employer, ABC, made it clear to him that they would look disapprovingly upon his submitting himself for OLTL, and he wanted to continue his employment, that could certainly stop him. (Not saying that that is what happened, because I don’t know–but it’s one way that ABC could stop him cold if they wanted to, regardless of what the “rules” are.)

Totally agree.

Heard Cartini told all the GH actors not to vote for any OLTL or AMC actors.

OLTL’s Jerry ver Dorn & F lorenca , Kassie were cheated along with tuc No surprise you guys /gals ROCK So who made Pre moms let me guess Most of the cast from BB/ GH one from AMC and maybe 1/2 from YR and Days

OLTL gets f’ked over yet again. The Emmys are such political bulls’t. IMO Corbin and Kelley don’t deserve to be there, theyhaven’t earned it. Many of the veteran OLTL and AMC actors who were cut deserved to be in the running, especially since OLTL & AMC are now officially dead. It’s March and the ABC non-production clause should kick in and the rights go back to them. PP really blew it there.

Very disappointed that Kirsten Storms was snubbed. She had a great year with the not so surrogate pregnancy storyline! Can’t imagine how her performance wouldn’t measure up to the other actresses submissions. I am thrilled that Kelly Sullivan was pre-nominated, she was absolutely robbed last year! She should have won Lead Actress by a landslide.

I totally agree about Kelly Sullivan. She’s fantastic and playing those 2 roles was insane! I hope she wins! Worst thing GH did was kill her off!

GH letting go… of Kelly Sullivan… was the biggest, most grievous error… by RC/FV. Period.

we all have to overlook the writing… Yeah? LOL… I love the… “eyeroll” moments from FANS…

Kelly Sullivan – I’ll continue to miss her… till after this years emmys… I’d love to see her acknowledged… with a WIN.. and hope GH production… knows how big she is with the fans…

I love You Kelly Sullivan

I agree in large part with the comments above!! Based on pre nominations it would seem to me that perhaps actor should have appeared on a show for a period of six months in order to be considered. There are many actors leaving and trading shows: which is fine but in my mind that cuts down on the body of work that can be viewed. Yes: they put an Emmy reel together which must have quality material but that seems to have negated the work by those who have had quality and quantity of work. I have a problem with someone who had six great episodes and gets nominated over someone who had 70, carried the show in large part, and is ignored because somehow their small Emmy reel failed to prove them as the greater talent!!! Seems like a crap shoot: meanwhile why didn’t Jacqueline Macinness Wood (B and B) get a nod over the actress playing Aly or the actor playing Wyatt? I mean no disrespect but?? And Rodger Howarth portrayal of Todd Manning way more depth than the Franco characature!!

it is the system– all that is require is that they submit a 4 minute reel of work done within that calendar year– it doesn’t matter if those 4 minutes where edited throughout the whole year, or just one scene. It is a flaw system. I rather see independent judges assigned to each soap, who will watch the show everyday, and throughout the year and make recommendations based on an actors body of work, not just one scene that would be fairer. Right now all you need is one good scene in the whole year and you can win an emmy, sad but true.

I like your idea. The fans should be able to pick what scenes to submit and vote the noms in and then the board can pick whoever they like- IT IS SUBJECTIVE ANYWAY. Boo…! on the selected picks for some on the nominees. wtf!

Kirsten Storms is a glaring omission IMO!

I was shocked Kirsten Storms didn’t make the list. She was amazing last year.

Both Katheen Gati and Kirsten Storms were, without question, robbed.

Award shows are rarely satisfying…imo…i hardly ever watch them anymore…i just check out the winners list the next day like i do for the Academy Awards…do any of the daytime voters actually watch soaps or just the clips summited to them?

For me, the best part of the Oscars this year was Kim Novak presenting an award. I was happy and sad at the same time. I’m a Hitchcock fan, so Vertigo is high on the list!

Kim Novak…. was… an absolute STUNNER! drop dead, disarming… beauty…..

You just have to see: “Picnic” with William Holden, Rosalind Russell…. Oye.. the sparks flew… captivated… took flight… and sex was palpable…

LOL… OK… with Kim Novak and William Holden… dalliance (flirtation)… come hither… it was too much fire…

so well done

Rosalind Russell…. comedic timing… was laugh out loud… she was amazing… she took the role… (and, I’m so glad she did) but it was said… she didn’t want to submit herself in a “best-supporting” role… as she preferred to be nominated as the lead actress…

———

back to Ms. Novak

unfortunately, her surguries… has to be thee tragedy… of all time

it was a treat to see her… altho.. at the same time… the realization… what women will do… to themselves… I was momentarily, angered… that the men folk… should just up and speak out about how it’s just not necessary for women to cut themselves up….

Yes little Miss Brookyln absolulty belongs on this list and quite frankly she is one of the best of daytime no matter what her age. Anyone seeing her running towards Robin crying mommy! Or just her daily everyday stuff. She little super star and keeps growing in skill each year!! Just adore her. Hope they never feel the need to SORAS that character I be so upset.

Brooklyn is a better actress than a few of the adult actresses on the show (Kiki)! I love Brooklyn’s scenes! She is incredibly gifted!

Very disappointed to hear Kirsten and Kathleen were dropped!!! They both had very strong performances and are very talented!

Brooklyn is such a talented little girl…leaps and bounds over anyone in any of the soaps as well!! Roger Howarth is talented no matter what role he plays and you have to love his own spin to every character…he’s FUN to watch.

Kirsten not making that list is crazy…

The problem is that his spin is the same spin no matter which character he plays. Whether it be Todd, or Paul, or Franco, or whoever, he does the same Howarth shchtick…he tics, he stammers, he flails his arms, he feels the need to make EVERY line a one liner, and try to make everything somehow quirky, or funny. It is exhausting to watch after a while. Part of it is the writing, but it would be so nice for the writing and the acting to be toned down a couple notches. Can’t this person ever have a normal conversation with ANYONE? Same goes for Lucy and Tracy. Even weird, strange, over the top people have normal conversations once in a while. Its what separates hem from being human and being complete anti social sociopaths.

Apparently you didn’t see his work on oltl this year. It was refreshingly free of the buffoon that Gh had turned Todd into. There were very few one liners. Todd has to have some because that is his style and he would be out of character without some humor. But it was kept to a minimum. Roger and Kassie gave us beautiful, subtle, heartfelt performances that deserved recognition. Roger on GH is a mere shadow of what he is capable of and I’m disappointed to see him recognized for that. I can’t help but think that there is a political reason behind the lack of recognition for the oltl work. Actually he was on gh as Todd during the year also and even that work was far and away better than anything he has done as Franco.

Johnny….Glad to know the exaggerated affectations annoy others, too and I must say that Lucy’s are the MOST egregious! I cannot even stand to watch that overgesticulating, hyperactive drama queen…she really is just TOO much!!!!!

On a side note, Don Diamont, Dollar Bill, is not a diss…. I don’t think he really delivered anything worth mentioning… playing an arrogant billionaire, he’s one dimensional lately…compare his work to that of Jason Thompson( Patrick of GH) and you get my drift! Jason was fabulous this year and continues to touch his audience! That’s Emmy worthy!

BB cast is one dimensional now minutes Heather Tom but I find her best work is crying, and that’s it.

I have to say I totally agree with you.

We do have to put the Gati situation in perspective. I agree she is an awesome comedic actress, but we all know that comedy is rarely rewarded at the Emmys. And these are called Daytime “DRAMAS” after all…let us not forget that. It is like that uptight Frau from the Austin Powers movies…that actress is brilliant and hilarious at playing that character, but she would never win an Oscar for it. Obrecht is campy, and over the top and bordering on cartoonish. And thats another problem…this show has so many whack jobs, criminals, and nut cases running around town (Obrecht, Faison, Heather, Victor, Ava, Sonny, Julian, Sean, Ric, etc etc) that they’re all just tripping over each other and getting lost in the shuffle. They all play variations on the same scene. Over and over and over and over again. The show’s lack of pre-noms should be a bit telling. Good comedic acting can and has been rewarded by Emmy in the past, but the writing also gave these performers real substance as characters and they werent just funny or comic relief all the time…I think of Rena Sofer, Justin Deas, and Leann Hunley just to name three.

Roger Howarth, Kathleen Gati and Kristen Alderson should only be nominated for an award if they’re submitting a reel from the Cartoon Network.
I can see them now, trying to escape from being hit by an anvil thrown at them by Wily E. Coyote.
You can get more honestly dramatic acting from Porky and Petunia Pig.
Tha….tha…that’s ALL, folks!

I agree with you about Kathleen Gati (Dr. Obrecht)–her performances have been outstanding the last year.

Off-topic but reading through the lists brings me to a sad realization: is anyone else depressed that we’ll never again see Jeanne Cooper, Susan Flannery, or Erika Slezak nominated for an Emmy? 🙁

There are no more actresses like those three on daytime soaps. They all worked for years on their shows, and they never phoned in their performances. (no matter how far fetched the plots were at times). I still miss “Viki” on my screen.

Why the hell is Cynthia watros pre nominated! Tatyana Ali had a better year

How can Jerry Ver Dorn not be nominated? How can Corbin Blue get a nomination? He was cute and all, but no acting range was shown. I think that very few from OLTL and AMC were nominated because the actors on the other network shows refused to vote for them. They only vote for the ones on their own network in a desperate attempt for job security. That is a mistake. We all know that soaps can be cancelled at any time. Someday they may be successful online. It is a mistake for the industry to ignore the online soap attempts of TOLN. I don’t think that I will be watching the emmys (if they are even televised). Last year’s attempt was pathetic. Who wants to see someone from a cooking show interview emmy winners? Anyway, most of the nominations show us that winning a daytime emmy is now a joke. It does not have the credibility that it had in the past. I am still in shock that “Starr” from OLTL/GH won an emmy last year.

“… and, the Emmy goes to: ”

Kathleen Gatti, GH
Kirsten Storms, GH

Lauren Koslow, Days
Jenn Lily, Days
John Aniston, Days

these are my picks for unbelievable…. bereft. aghast… mind numbing… dumb me down

they did it again…

they just don’t listen… mindless behavior.

I love these people

That sums it up perfectly, Patrick….”They just don’t listen….” And not simply about the Emmys! (By the way, wasn’t the divine Ms. Gati just magnificent yesterday???? More, more, more….)

1. I like that she shared a kiss…. with victor… and LOL… she dove right in to the chocolates

2. that she’s nevertheless passionate about Faison…. it’s her love… and she stood up to Anna…

Yikes! I love the idea… that she could be related to Anna… that would be a real doozy of a time… for these two to explore… just love the possibilities

I do not think… Dr. O is cartoonish. over the top.. yes… but.. the writers are fleshing out layers and it’s all an invite to me…

LOL.. liked the scene when the lady was thanking her for her husbands treatment… and she said… it perfectly.. that she’s a doctor… and further digged deep that her husband needs to quit smoking… how put out on the line was that

HOW Interesting Dr. O IS:

that’s why I think she sould have been nominated.

she’s certainly a character unto herself

Here, here, Patrick! There is so much more to discover about our mysterious Dr. O…. and I hope that the writers will do her justice! If there is one character that deserves the proper attention to character development and a fascinating backstory, it is Liesl Obrecht! Not only do I absolutely adore the divalicious doc, but the lovely lady who portrays her, as well….she is the epitome of class and gracious, humble appreciation for her multitude of fans. Ms. Gati totally deserves every bit of success she has earned–line by line, episode by episode–as the best thing to hit GH in years!!!!! Shame on Emmy for not honoring her unique contribution to this daytime institution!!!

I hope Kimberly McCullough advances to the nominations list. She’s a wonderful actress.

Michael Easton (Silas Clay GH) should be nominated. He’s one of the best actors on GH. Disappointed he was nominated. He has been giving stellar performances all year! Love him as Silas Clay.

Absolutely agree about Dr. Obrecht (Ms. Gati) on General Hospital! I love when she is on-air! I love how she delivers her one-liners, always insults to Anna. She cracks me up. A great actress and find for sure!

Carol Burnett Talks About Being a Superfan of ‘All My Children’ on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’

In a heartfelt reunion, of sorts, the one and only Carol Burnett appeared on Monday March 25th episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.

Burnett had first met Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo) back when they all appeared on All My Children together. Carol played Verla Grubbs first in 1983 and then again in the 90’s.

Host Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) noted to Burnett that “we go back a long time”. She also described Burnett’s character of Verla Grubbs, “extraordinary in every way.”

Carol’s love for All My Children is well-documented, hence legendary soap creator, Agnes Nixon, created the role of Verla for Burnett.

Photo: ABC

Speaking on how her passion for All My Children began, Carol told Kelly and Mark, “It started with my kids. They would watch at noon. I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’ I sat down and I started to watch and I got hooked!”

When Carol’s family decided to travel through Europe during one summer, the comedic legend recalled thinking, “How am I going to last if I don’t know what’s going on in Pine Valley?” She revealed she had a friend, “who sent me a telegram to the (different hotels) on Fridays to bring me up to date.”

Photo: ABC

In a hilarious moment from the segment, Carol recalled receiving a late night telegram while in Lake Cuomo when there was a knock at her hotel room door from the hotel manager who was shaking.

Carol related what it said, “Erica is still in a coma. Mark slipped again and ran away from rehab.” As Kelly and Mark broke into laughter, Burnett continued, “Chuck has learned that Donna is carrying his baby, who was once a hooker.”

Check out Carol explaining how she became an AMC Superfan below.

Now, let us know, did you enjoy Carol as Verla Grubbs? What show do you consider yourself a Superfan of? Tell us in the comment section.

Malachy McCourt, ‘Ryan’s Hope’ and ‘All My Children’ Actor, Dead at 92

If you watched Ryan’s Hope through its 14-year-run, you know that Kevin the bartender became a beloved “member’ of the Ryan clan on the defunct ABC daytime drama series. The character of Kevin MacGuiness became so loved by the fans because of the actor who portrayed him, Malachy McCourt.

Sadly, according to his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times, Malachy passed away on Monday from a heart condition and battling cancer. The actor was 92-years-old.

Playing Kevin on Ryan’s Hope was not much of a stretch for McCourt, because in his lifetime, he was the owner of 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan. Known as one of the city’s great story-tellers, patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris would stop in and talk all things Irish with . On Ryan’s Hope, Kevin was best friends to “Ryan’s Bar” owner, Johnny Ryan (Bernie Barrow) and he tried to keep Delia (Ilene Kristen) on the straight and narrow.

Photo: ABC

In his soap opera career, McCourt also was widely-known for his role of Father Clarence McCourt on All My Children especially come Christmastime. Was Clarence, actually St. Nick? That was always the proverbial question. McCourt also appeared on the New York soaps: One Life To Live, Search For Tomorrow and Another World. Other roles included: Devil’s Own, Brewster’s Millions, The Molly Maguires, and Starman, to name

Later in 2006, Malachy ran for governor of the state of New York as a Green Party candidate. He tackled social issues of the time including being an advocate for gay and lesbian groups to march in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Photo: ABC

McCourt’s childhood was recounted within his brother Frank McCourt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes, which detailed their mother’s attempt to raise the four of their surviving seven children in poverty in Limerick, Ireland. Later, Malachy wrote his own memoirs: 1998’s Monk Swimming, and 2000’s Singing My Him Song.

Malachy is survived by his aforementioned wife, Diana, daughter Siobhan McCourt; sons Malachy Jr., Conor and Cormac; stepdaughter Nina Galin; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Share you remembrances and condolences for Malachy McCourt via the comment section, but first check out this scene from a 1983 episode of “Ryan’s Hope” featuring the late actor with Ilene Kristen.
