Days Of Our Lives
RATINGS: B&B Has Good Week! All Other Soaps Down!
The ratings are out for the week of September 3rd through the 7th, and it was a good week for The Bold and the Beautiful! The series was the only soap to gain viewers adding +87,000 and the CBS soap is maintaining increasing viewership over a year ago at this time.
B&B also gained in its rating share in total households with 2.5/8! Was it all the behind-the-scenes shockers with the departures of Ronn Moss and Susan Flannery that sparked some interest? Or, the storylines for the week involving Rick/Caroline/Thomas/Hope, and Brooke and Ridge’s upcoming nuptials?
Meanwhile both General Hospital and Days of our Lives lost viewers for the week! GH while still maintaining over 2.5 million viewers was down -100,000 and DAYS lost -113,000 viewers and remained in the bottom slot of the four soaps. DAYS also took a hit in the key 18-49 female demo total viewers in the category and rating shares.
The Young and the Restless which is now going through a major revamping as we are seeing the last weeks of Maria Arena Bell’s regime’s work, lost -41,000 viewers but also gained a few in the key 18-49 female demo. You can view the entire ratings picture via Soap Opera Network here!
So time now for our weekly Soap Opera Executive Armchair Quarterbacks meeting! What is working for you on the four soaps? What is not? Who do you want to see more of on-screen, and who do you want to see less-of? Weigh-in!

53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Nominations: Outstanding Lead Actress Drama Series

Monday on Entertainment Tonight, the second set of nominations for the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards were announced which included the highly-coveted Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actress and Outstanding Daytime Talk Series.
ET followed suit after Extra announced the nominees, as previously reported, in the Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actor and Outstanding Daytime Talk Host.
Now, five leading ladies of the soaps are vying for the gold for Lead Actress and the category marked the first-ever nominations for CBS daytime’s Beyond the Gates when two actresses made the final cut. Only General Hospital is not represented among the actresses this year after Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) took home the trophy last year.

Meanwhile, Michelle Stafford had previously won 3 Emmys – 2 for Lead Actress and 1 for Supporting, but this recognition makes it her 11th overall nomination.

“The Bold and the Beautiful” is finally picking itself up since the departure of Ronn Moss (Ridge). Hopefully now Winsor Harmon (Thorne) and Jacob Young (Rick) can get some damn airtime! I need both of their characters in my life right now. And maybe Crystal Chappell (Dani) can show up! Plus, bring back Lesli Kay (Felicia) pronto!
Hey Scott! I am an ATWT fan too,
I would like to see mroe Winsor Harmon, too. And Lesli Kay! these are two uder-attractive, very talented actors who have compelling characters and… oh… they are Forresters! And does not Lesli Kay have an Emmy? I could do with a paring of some of the younger set on B&B. They age them so fast we have no investment in them. And they don’t do anything. For years, no one had done anything but mumble and have sex.
Days deserves to be in last place!
I love your comment. I totally agree.
Rafe and Gaby the awful Hernandez front and burner is killing this soap : BORING
It is the same lamass stories we saw one year ago with Gary Tomlin in charge, and the guy was fired because of it..ridiculous, maybe NBC want to cancel this soap and it is their way to do it..otherwise they don’t have a brain..pitiful.
The post (Days deserves to be in last place) did not come from me either. Somehow my name is being attached to other’s posts. I love DOOL”S and want it to do well always. Thanks
But the follwing week of September 10th has GH ratings up due to ther new 2:00pm time slot!!
Days will comtinue to lose viewers as long as EJami are together and the main focus of the soap.
Ejami are not together. Sami is still after Rafe!
Disagree! EJami has a strong fanbase. These ratings are ridiculous. DAYS should be number 2 and GH should be number 1. Needless to say, I am starting to wonder if the strong Rafe presence really has something to do with it.
I agree Phil. Ejami have a really strong fanbase and the time they were together the ratings were very high. At the moment Sami is still wanting Rafe. I love Ejami and they are my favourite couple.
Ejami are not together actually Dmitri, when they were FINALLY together for a very short time ratings were up now that it is again the Hernandez show with Rafe put on Sami’s orbit and their lame pairing with Ej as some ‘evil’ interloper ratings are down, this week in question was all about Rafe and his ‘angst’ with Sami, nobody is interested by that ! So stop lying please, it is ludicrous and pathetic.
Dmitri are you for real seriously ?! EYEROLL, when Ejami were together even for some seconds it was the only time this soap their ratings went up last year and this year. Your post makes you totally delusional..i feel sorry for you..ugh..cringe…
The Passion and the sex is what drives EJAMI, not this Lovey-dovey rehash of the stupid EJ and Taylor fiasco.
The fact is EJami are still having these “hot” acenes that fans have wanted for years. EJami fans said they will watch when EJami is on, yet they fail to do so. In addition, People are tired of “Days of EJami’s Life” and not seeing the other characters like Jarlena and Bope, so they aren’t watching. Days lost ratings once EJami began, and they have in the past as well.
Hello-Maybe you should watch the show CAREFULLY. Sami is honing after Rafe and he is lusting after her. Ejami are not having these “hot” scenes because Sami is still thinking about Rafe. Ejami fans do not want to watch EJ and Sami when Sami is thinking about another man. That is not fair to us and we do not deserve to be treated that way. Rafe changed paternity results and is still coming off as the good guy in this story. he is no hero. If SAFE are popular why are people not tuning in. They are clearly going down that pathway again and it clearly shows that Sami and Rafe are thinking about each other.
A lot of people actually do tune into the Safe storyline. And Rafe is being a good guy by helping Nicole. EJ would only take her child, and Nicole doesn’t deserve that. I think EJole need to work out their own relationship before having a family. But a lot of people just are tired of EJami being shown all the time. Look at Daytime Royalty. Everyone wants to see Lumi, Safe, EJole and the veteran actors, not EJami, when EJ raped her. Besides, EJami is lust; Safe and Lumi (and EJole) are actual love.
Get over it. People are not watching because of your awful Safe and Ejole. The ratings were at their lowest when they were on last year playing happy families. Dont speak for the general audience because you dont know what they want. Rafe continually tries to take Ej’s kids away from him. Let him go get his own kids. Hes boring, expressionless and remember how the ratings took a massive hit to the ground when Sami shot EJ and then went to boink Saint Rafe.
@ Dmitri For the most part you are correct. The show has been it’s worse when they focused on the three of them. Why do they keep taking us down the same road over and over. Pick one or none, let’s just get past this same crap. Poor Galen can’t act to save his life. He couldn’t act on Passions and he is hardly any better all these years later. In a matter of about a month Sami was after Lucas, then EJ and now Rafe! Why does any of them want her? I don’t have time to list all of the things that she has done to Lucas. She shot EJ in the head and cheated on Rafe. Sami is best in small doses. Why can’t they let her grow up? She doesn’t have to be perfect, but it is time she focused on something other than men.
It seems to me they are trying to undo the last year. Which is a shame. There was some good story lines that were just dropped.
@ Avelina – Dmitri has as much right to speak for the general audience as you do.
Mark it right. I dodnt imply that he doesnt have to speak. I respect his opinion i just meant that one shouldnt assume that the general audience likes Safe. By the way your spot on about Galen Gering. He really needs acting lessons.
Thank you Mark. I understand, Avelina, that you are tired of Rafe taking EJ’s kids. However, I am disgusted that people keep pushing a couple where one person raped the other! It is worse than Rafe protecting Nicole and her child. Yes, ratings were good when EJami were on, but people are tired of them now. It would be better if Sami settled down with either Rafe or Lucas (neither of them raped her, and she didn’t shoot either of them) and if EJ would settle down with Nicole and raise their child. Chemistry is not the only thing that makes a great couple. Love is, and Sami has proved over and over that she doesn’t love EJ, and she will always love Rafe (and Lucas).
At least GH is 3rd out of four. That’s an improvement!
I think BB pulled in viewers like me who no longer watch BB but for sentimental reasons tuned in to see Ridge and Brooke marry for the last time with the actor Ron Moss as Ridge, because if they recast Ridge, the characters will no doubt divorce and marry again. DOOL has no storyline at all right now, it looks like every day they are filling time until they think of some plot to develop. YR is a mess right now because of the change in guard, again there are no real storylines to tease or get our attention so it is easy to miss a show or two without missing anything at all. So I will like to see some good storytelling on the any soap, please.
GH is my favorite and I’m glad it is holding steady after the time change. Hopefully, it will get even stronger as it settles in! I’m loving the stories, quicker pace, and the combination of GH veterens and OLTL characters. Can’t wait for the next episode!
Agree with you.. GH is been very good and do look forward to the next episode
More and more re watching GH becuase of the crossover but Neilsen keeps saying we or not.The show is on fire.
Agreed!
The worst show gained viewers? I’ve tried to watch B&B, but it usually makes my eyes bleed.
jill pharren phelps is a stupid woman. i hope marcy rylan and genie francis get together and beat the crap out of jill pharren phelps. grab the witch by the throat. jill is not making friends at all. we viewers really hate jill pharren phelps. the woman is trying to get the young and the restless cancelled on purpose. i don’t trust jill at all. more firings to come. lol
Wow this is still MAB’s material that is airing not JFP’s. Y&R fans and CBS/Sony didn’t want MAB in charge because she was horrendous and she wanted her late father-in-law’s show to be cancelled. Also wishing someone dead over a fictional show is pretty disturbing.
DOOL will continue to lose ratings and eventually be cancelled if they keep the SAFE storyline going. They are so boring, I can’t even stand to watch them. I personally have stopped watching DOOL since I heard of the SAFE pairing again so its no surprise to me that their ratings are down. Look how the ratings flew through the roof when EJAMI was together and it has nothing to do with me being a big EJAMI fan either, but if the TPTB can’t see that, I feel so sorry for DOOL!!!!!!
I totally agree. They deserve to lose viewers. After building up Ejami and then comes Saint Rafe hopping along and destroying their relationship, Days deserves last place. Look how much viewers they have lost in the past few weeks just by putting Rafe in Samis orbit. I dont watch Days and Im loving GH. At least Cartini are great guys that really care about the show and want it to do well. Ken Corday will never learn his lesson. I cant wait to see the look on boring Rafes face when EJ learns the baby is his.
I love Ejami heaps. Im a massive fan of them
Sami is trying to make it work with Ej
Ok, let’s not pretend that SAFE are the only reason why people are tuning out…by the same token, EJAMI could be accused of that too. The show, overall, sucks. DAYS really need new writers…there is no cliffhanger, ever….no mystery, no intrigue so no possible big payoffs like all the soaps used to do back in the day. Soaps always have been about huge payoffs, culmination of events (like when Carrie clocked Sami on her wedding day). Fans want that kind of stuff, not people walking around, talking about other people’s lives and do nothing. Soaps will die if they continue down that road. Sunset Beach and Santa Barbara were wayyy better at their worst then show currently on at their best right now.
Exactly, EJami also makes the soap lose ratings. Sami and EJ are written TOTALLY out of character when together! EJ becomes such a pussy, and Sami is a whiny brat who can have the man she always lusts after, but constantly chooses someone else over him. She has nev loved him, so why does she even bother? I personally like Safe, but I think the writers should go in the direction of a Lumi pairing, because that will gain the soap more viewers. And, EJole are steamy together and should reunite.
Great Insight Nickolas… lets hope someone from Days is reading these posts!!!
No one is saying that Safe is the only reason that is happening. The whole show is boring at the moment. Im still waiting for something exciting to happen. I dont watch it anymore but I still read spoilers. They bring the VETS back only to fire them after a few months and people like Rafe and his criminal sister are taking up alot of the airtime. Jennifer is thinking about Daniel and her husband hasnt been dead that long.
I agree with you.. Days is very very very boring. I DVR it, but just delete it most of the time. Again.. just waiting for Kristen to come back and will see if they are smart about how they bring her back and if it gains any excitement to watch… Otherwise.. will be glad to have 5 more hours free on my DVR…
Right in the money Myrtho, NCB, Sony, Corday and co are really really stupid, their loss if their soap is cancelled by making the same bad moves again and again and again..i am not even sorry for them anymore.
Yes, why would Days rehire writers who were fired a year ago because the ratings tanked. MarDar had storylines that were more interesting; the Daysaster happened which was exciting, Sami was defending EJ’s innocence and it looked as if they were going to be together. The Olympics were over and boom! TomSell storylines started right off the bat with Rafe in Sami’s orbit yet again! What are fans to do? I admit that I am an EJami fan; James Scott and Alison Sweeney are awesome together. It would be great if the writers would capitalize on that couple instead of dangling a carrot in front of our nose and then yanking it away as soon as it comes close! I love DOOL, my 1 hour escape to Salem in the afternoon, and have been a fan for 46 years. I would hate to see it go the way of the other soaps who have been lost to viewers the past 2 years. Wake up writers; listen to your GA. We want our romance, excitement and mystery in the afternoon!
they brought back stefano, and then shipped him off somewhere> where was the fall out for Bo, Hope, John, and Marlena. (also did someone forget that John and Hope are STILL Married?)
The Best thing is Sonny and Will, and Nick (not Melanie).
Each serial has merits, and we nend to support all of them if we are ever to convince powers to invest in new programs. I think B&B enjoyed a bounce as viewers wanted to see the Ronn Moss sendoff.
We often berate the braodcast networks but I wonder if too many spoliers and too much advance casting/departure news has upset the nature of storytelling surprise. Sometimes I wonder if that is why fans don’t watch. They can follow so easily without doing so, Something to ponder.
The GH ratings situation wasn’t as bad as it seemed. On the surface, the show did lose viewers. However, if you look at the day-to-day numbers, they actually gained audience from Tuesday (2.4 million) to Friday (2.6 million). Their demos were respectable, too (more than 600,000 in W18-49, beating B&B). And they were up from the same week last year by 66,000 viewers. In short, despite the loss, this was still one of GH’s best weeks in quite a while. Can’t wait to see the next set of numbers. From the overnights, it looks pretty good already.
I watch B&B only to support the soap genre after the cancellations of my fav’s OLTL & AMC but I have to say this soap is the worst…I have to keep myself from throwing tomatoes at the screen with that whole stupid Liam, Steffy, Hope nonsense…what a bunch of losers…or not the characters but whoever writes them so disgusting…I cannot believe they are 1st among the soaps last week…
I just finished replying to you…. Ooops but did it on my own. I agree. Lets put it that way. But i love Steffi she’s bold.
I fast forward thru Liam & Steffy now that they are doing the nasty…& I mean NASTAY!!!!!! Hate both..Hope has redeemed herself unless she goes back to that trash Liam…
Gloria, I agree. I started watching B&B due to amc/oltl cancellation. I always liked “Liam” when he was with us in our ABC line up soaps but the Hope saga gets on my nerves. Die hard fans seem to route for Liam and Hope. I happen to like Steffi but I’m a newby. I can not understand why writers would write such pathetic story lines like a young girl who allows a man to walk all over her, cheats on her, runs back to his x everytime she sneezes the wrong way. Just don’t get it. I believe Hope needs to wake up and Dump Liam. I don’t mind a good love triangle but everytime Hope says I love him I want to vomit.
U got that right..Do Steffy & Hope have noodles where their brains are supposed to be.??.They are obviously being written by a so-called man…..hanging on every word of some guy who treats them like doo doo & runs back & forth from one to the other & doesn’t know his own mind about who he really wants to be with..Liam is a so called man..& they both keep telling him “you are such a good man” ..I want to hurl when they say that….jmo…I kinda like Hope better but she is still a doormat when it comes to Liam…they need to wrap that up…nothing will replace AMC & OLTL though I am loving GH these days..
