RATINGS: DAYS Nick & Gabi's Wedding Free-For-All Gives NBC Soap 2 Year High In Total Viewers!

The ratings are out for the week of January 14th-18th and there is no question what the hottest soap that week was, and the viewers agreed!
NBC’s Days of our Lives scored big with the fall-out from Nick (Blake Berris) and Gabi’s (Camila Banus) wedding, where Will (Chandler Massey) admitted he was the father of Gabi’s unborn baby, as Chad (Casey Deidrick) made a scene that caused the reveal and Nick vowed revenge on everyone that destroyed the nuptials!  In addition, it served to break up couples Sami (Alison Sweeney) and Rafe (Galen Gering), while causing a major rift in Will and Sonny’s (Freddie Smith) then blossoming relationship!
DAYS added +209,000 total viewers for the week, the most of any daytime drama, but more importantly spiked its total viewers number to a two year high! The last time DAYS saw these kind of ratings numbers for a week was back at the end of January in 2011! In addition, in the key women 18-49 demo, Days of our Lives was the soap to add the most viewers with + 55,000. That is the highest numbers under the Gary Tomlin and Chris Whitesell writing regime.
The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless both added a few total viewers for the week as well. B&B added +58,000 while The Young and the Restless added only +14,000.Â
General Hospital was the only soap to lose total viewers with -56,000.  The three shows: Y&R, B&B, and GH remained the top three soaps in that order with DAYS still trailing in fourth. However, with total viewers for the week numbers at 2,774,000, DAYS closed the gap on third place GH which had 2,800,000 total viewers for the ratings period. View the complete ratings picture via Soap Opera Network here!

The June 22 episode of Days of Our Lives reminded us all of why Deidre Hall is iconic in the role of Dr. Marlena Evans. Here we are 50 years later, and Marlena is still the heroine of the long-running soap opera, and Deidre remains one of the most most recognizable names in the history of soaps.
To pay tribute, and to look back at the life and times of Marlena, the story starts with Marlena flipping through a photo album of her with John (the late Drake Hogestyn) over the years. As she misses him dearly, she gets a knock on the door and its none other than John’s son, Paul Narita (Christopher Sean).
With Andrew (Colton Little) in Salem working on a case, he sits down with Marlena, who says she can’t believe its been fifty years since she first arrived in Salem! Cue: Deidre’s first scenes on DAYS when she finds Mickey Horton (the late John Clarke) playing chess against himself inside the mental institution she worked.

THE FLASHBACKS OF MARLENA’S LIFE
From there, viewers definitely got the cliff notes version of the history of Marlena and entrenched within them, some of the biggest moments in Deidre’s enduring run.
Paul thinks he is looking at 70s, and early 80s Marlena while going through her scrapbook, but he is actually looking at her twin, Samantha (Andrea Hall). Cue: when Marlena confronted Samantha about impersonating her, and then later getting a call on her radio show from the Salem Strangler (Jack Coleman as Jake Kostichek) who killed Samantha thinking it was Marlena.
In the present, Belle (Martha Madison) has arrived at this time to meet up with Paul, unaware of this trip down memory lane. She wants to go over the findings in the chess board mystery Stefano willed to Marlena and John, in private with him, since Marlena previously said she wanted nothing to do with it.
Back to the history lesson, Marlena speaks highly of Don Craig and even though their marriage didn’t work out, she could find a path forward with the new love her life, Roman Brady. (Wayne Northrop however is never shown, possibly to keep the story focused on John as Roman for confusion sakes?)
Paul sees a photo of a young Carrie (Christie Clark) in the album and Marlena says she was such a godsend after losing her baby. In fact, Marlena says caring for Carrie prepared her for her having and raising her own twins, Eric and Sami. Cue: The twin visiting Marlena in the hospital.
JOHN AND MARLENA’S LOVE CONQUERED ALL
Then, in a way to get through and incorporate the wild storylines only Marlena could have been in, she tells Belle and Paul, she has been through so much in her life, how lucky she was to find John, and some of the most unbelievable experiences no one could imagine. Cue: Marlena possessed by the devil and levitating from the bed. Next, John confronting Marlena being the Salem Stalker, where she admits she killed Alice Horton, pretends she needs help, then pulls a gun on her beloved John!
The comment is made by Paul and Marlena, that she literally has been to hell and back and she could not have survived were it not for her beloved John. Cue the big emotional highpoint clips; The Pier Scene! Marlena steps out of the fog when John sees her from a distance. After believing she was dead for four years, here she was before him in one of the greatest reunions in a soap opera love story in history. What followed were other times of the life of times of Jarlena.

MARLENA’S ‘GIFT’ FROM STEFANO HAS A NEW CLUE
When Marlena makes a brief exit to the other room, Belle fills in Paul on the chess set Stefano left her mother and the photo of the Lire. Paul said he will investigate. Marlena comes back into the room and overhears, and says to promise her if things get dangerous he will back off, she does not want anyone hurt by Stefano’s games.
As the episode comes to a conclusion, it’s just Belle and Marlena going through the photo album giggling about 70s hairstyles and all the memories. Belle speaks on the impact Marlena has had in everyone’s lives, and that she is both the heart of their family and the heart of Salem.
An end card comes up acknowledging Deidre Hall’s 50th anniversary as Marlena, and we fade to black.

If you have ever tuned-in to the soap opera genre over the last 50 years, and witnessed some of the greatest romances, drama, classic and outlandish storylines of all-time, you would have seen Deidre Hall smack dab in the middle of it as longtime Salem heroine, Dr. Marlena Evans.
It was 50 years on this date, June 21, 1976 that Hall first appeared on DAYS on NBC which was its home for 57 years before it moved to its current streaming platform on Peacock in September of 2022.
In Hall’s first episode she was introduced as a psychiatrist treating Mickey Horton (John Clarke) at Bayview Sanitarium after he suffered a complete mental breakdown. Mickey learned that his brother Bill Horton (Edward Mallory) was the biological son of Mike Horton (Wesley Eure) with his wife Laura (Susan Flannery) and that he had been lied to for years and years. From that moment on, the rest is television and soap opera history. Days of Our Lives put Hall front and center.

There were so many heartbreaking and shocking story twists involving the beloved Marlena. One of the first was the historic crib death of baby DJ (Don Jr.) in 1980, Marlena’s infant son with Don Craig (Jed Allan). The story had never been told on daytime television and Hall’s performances received accolades from TV critics to fans when Deidre received thousands of letters from grieving mothers who had gone through the same thing in their own lives.
DAYS also brought Deidre’s twin sister, Andrea Hall Lovell to the show as her on-screen sister Samantha, who had a grudge and even locked Marlena up in a sanitarium and took her place! Fast-forward and in 1982, DAYS launched the Salem Strangler story where everyone believed Marlena was his next victim, only it turned out to be Samatha. Jake Kositchek (played by Jack Coleman) was revealed to be the actual serial killer.
Later, Deidre would assume the role of Marlena’s look-alike, Hattie Adams in 2004, once played by her sister, Andrea. Over the years, Hattie has come back to Salem and caused trouble giving Hall a chance to play a different type of character, then the always upstanding Marlena.

THE LOVES OF MARLENA
Deidre Hall struck gold with all her leading men: from the late Jed Allan, to Wayne Northrop as Roman Brady, and of course, her enduring love story with the late John Black played by the iconic Drake Hogestyn. In fact, Marlena’s 1986 wedding to John (who was believed to be Roman at the time) remains a favorite of fans to this day.
TOP MARLENA STORYLINES OF ALL-TIME
While the list is long, here are several that were some of the memorable during Deidre’s five decades in Salem!
The Possession (1994- 1995)
Considered one of the most ambiguous, outlandish and unforgettable story arcs in soap opera history, then Days of Our Lives head writer, James Reilly went there! Marlena was possessed by the devil! That included; the demonic eyes, hissing at father John (Black) the priest, morphing into creatures, and the classic levitating in her bed! It became a cultural phenomenon and cemented Deidre Hall’s status as a daytime television legend. Just ask Ryan Gosling!

The Affair with John Black (1993)
John and Marlena’s forbidden love could not be denied and they had passionate affair, while she was still married to the real Roman. Problem was her daughter, Sami (Alison Sweeney) caught her mother having sex with John on a desk that changed Sami forever.
The Salem Stalker Mystery (2003-2004)
In a shocker, Marlena was revealed to be a serial killer who bumped off several Salem favorites residents who were all alive on the island of Melaswen (spelled “New Salem” backward). Turns out, she was manipulated and gaslighted by Andre DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) to do the “killings” and had no memory of her actions.
The Pier Scene (1991)
This remains Michael Fairman TV’s all-time favorite Deidre Hall moment, which featured some of the best acting in the storied careers of both Hall and Drake Hogestyn.
In the story, a presumed-dead Marlena returns after four years. One foggy night on the pier, John is alone, and Marlena steps out of the fog to reveal herself, and is reunited with the love of her life. You can watch it any year, any decade, and in any moment, and it will have you reaching for the hankies again and again. (best music score fo a soap scene of all-time too!)

Kristen’s Secret Room Reveal (1997)
Marlena was caught in Kristen Blake’s (Eileen Davidson) elaborate web of lies, when she was held hostage in a secret wine cellar/room until John managed to track her down, leading to an iconic on-screen reunion. The classic catfight between Hall and Eileen Davidson was one for the ages.
It should be noted that Maison Blanche, Queen of the Night, Possession, Aremid and Lady in a Cage were all a part of classic DAYS storyline and all featured Hall at the epicenter of it from 1993-1996.
THE RECENT YEARS OF MARLENA
In recent years, DAYS brought back the possession 2.0 storyline under then head writer Ron Carlivati in 2021 where the devil leapt back in Marlena after taking advantage of a frail Doug Williams (the late Bill Hayes)
In 2025, viewers watched the end of the love story of John and Marlena, as John succumbed to injuries sustained in an explosion saving a vial of medication needed to bring Bo (Peter Reckell) back to life. Marlena has been a widow on-screen since June of 2025 as Hall as portrayed the good doctor struggling with her grief and to move on with her life since his death.

One story that never goes away is Stefano DiMera’s (the late Joe Mascolo) obsession with Marlena, his “Queen of the Night.” Even in death, Stefano is toying with her from the great beyond with the mysterious chess set and the missing “pawn,” that he had gifted John and Marlena in his will. The mystery is currently unfolding on all-new episodes of Days of Our Lives.

Al Calderon Reflects on ‘Major Chapters’ Coming to an End on ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘Brilliant Minds’
It’s been a bittersweet time for Al Calderon. The talented actor/singer/songwriter has watched from his vantage point to roles he loved so much come to their conclusion for different reasons.
In a heartfelt message posted to his Instagram story on Saturday, Calderon took a moment to share how grateful he was for the opportunity to play Javi Hernandez on Days of Our Lives, and nurse Nico Silva this year on NBC’s second season of Brilliant Minds. Currently, Brilliant Minds has two more episodes that will air on June 24 and the series finale on July 1.
Calderon expressed, “As I sit here reflecting on this lovely Saturday afternoon over the last two years of my life, I have two major chapters closing that have been part of my life every day for the last two years. We have Brilliant Minds. Our last episodes are wrapping up, and then my last scenes aired yesterday as me as Javi on Days of Our Lives.

“I’m just unbelievably grateful for the chance and the opportunity to be a part of something so much larger than me,” continued Al. “I (will) love Days of Our Lives forever, my family. Thank you for supporting me and supporting my decision to take the leap of faith and believe in myself and, and tell other stories. You know, it’s never goodbye. It’s always ‘see you later’ to me and just leaving with love and leading with love.”
Al concluded with a special mention to some very important people, the fans: “Thank you to the fans and the support from everyone, the lovely messages. So this next chapter, hopefully it’s not a dragon, hopefully it’s a gold coin.”

Calderon’s journey on-screen on Days of Our Lives began in October of 2024 and concluded this month. In one of his last appearances Javi was asking a favor from Gabi (Cherie Jimenez) before bumping into his ex, Leo (Greg Rikaart). In story, Javi has a new romance with Gus (Michael Ocampo), while fighting his feelings for Leo. The role of Javi will be played starting on June 30 by Jacob Martinez who takes over the role.
NBC decided to cancel the Brilliant Minds, after it split up the airing of its second season which began in the fall of September of 2025 and the back-half started airing after a long break this past May. Calderon joined the medical drama staring Zachary Quinto for the new season, which sadly was its last.

GH is awesome more often than not but it still needs to fix things like characters in heavy storyline all of a sudden disappearing , I. E the duke/ Davison storyline where all the principle players disappear from the screen. Or the continuous lack of air time for fan fave Rebeca Herbts, what does the poor girl gotta do to get the air time that someone like Carly gets? They also tend to drag certain storylines forever, I’m lost and bored already with the Kate/ Connie storyline. I don’t get the point of it whatsoever.
When Days wants to, it can put on quite the show. The whole wedding was classic soap. All the drama and fall out- the performances that were spot on. Those two days reminded why I love soaps so much and why I was a fan of this one. And I was super impressed they didn’t wait for Feb sweeps to bring it out. It would have more self serving if they had, but it was a nice treat in the usually bland Jan on the soaps.

Gosh, you damn EJami-tards make me sick!!!! EJami DO NOT make the ratings. Only good storytelling does. Good stories bring in the numbers….plain and simple.
Definitely, if they go down the EJAMI road. THe wedding reveal was classic and well-written and very entertaining and EJAMI just sparkled. I love them!
EJami fans continually spam the polls to inflate their numbers. Unfortunately, the producers & executives believe that the Rapist/Victim pairing is akin to romance. I think putting them together is an insult to victims of sexual assault.

As a EJami fan, I am proud of my couple, and if I want to give them credit for bringing in high ratings that is my right….RATINGS ARE IN THE EYES OF THE VIEWER. As for the name calling, your post should be deleted. I saw no rape scene, just the exterior of a car. Sami made a deal with EJ…not rape. This is a dead issue and bad writing according to Ken Corday.The rape scene actually occurred on GH between Luke and Laura.
EJami have nothing to do with these ratings, the wedding does. EJami weren’t on during the wedding Days. I’ve seen the ratings for the actual days. The days where EJ, Sami and Rafe are not on have higher ratings than the dys they are on. Why? Because we are TIRED of seeing the triangle and the EJami abuse.
I agree with Vicki and JorgeAnn. However, Dmitri was right when he said that EJAMI were not on during the wedding days. I am a die hard EJAMI but the high ratings are also due to the classic reveal of the real baby daddy and also less focus on Sami’s love life is really good as well. It was awful how they focused on that and she was going between EJ and Rafe. It was a turn off and Im glad that is not the front burner anymore.
Mary I agree, I’m glad they didn’t drag it longer either. Thank goodness for a milestone 12,000 episodes….in more ways than one :).
And Shawn, shame on you. I don’t know what the moderators allowed your vulgar comment through but you really need help if you take someone’s pleasure in a daytime soap opera couple so personally offensive.
Very well said! Good storytelling in any genre is what sells. Ejami aren’t the reason for the ratings any more than ten best Hollywood actors coming together to make a crap movie.
The written word is what brings in ratings and Days did a great job with Nick & Gabi’s wedding and episodes thereafter. Kudos to Ali Sweeney and Chandler Massey especially!! I love that boy!
These episodes deserved the high ratings it got! Days can bring it for sure but they need to more often! Kristen can’t be the only one to bring it all the time!

It was an excellent day for DAYS, and it seemed pretty unanimous by everyone. I’m so glad the numbers reflected that. The show earned it.
Love DAYS! It’s the little engine that could! They don’t have the budget like B&B, the prestige like Y&R or the media/journalistic acclaim GH (for some odd reason) is receiving, but when push comes to shove they can put on a showstopping show. Congrats to them!
It would seem that GH has free reign and a loaded purse (cashola) to loosen their budget constraints.

I will say…. Blake Berris is giving a chilling performance as Nick, OYE! That scene with Justin… ie: Nick wanting to retain Legal help in gaining FULL Custody….. and it’s interesting to watch our Will grow as an actor… how this will play out….

Geez! didn’t Sammi rip in to Adrienne… about what wills going thru as oppposed to Sonny not being told…. it’s just excellent to see Adrienne… altho… i don’t think Adrienne would have acted that way…. cowering under Sammi’s assault.
Looks like on GH, people were going through a vampire panic. Relax the story will be resolved next week. It was better this week (except with Kristina whining about Trey)
Do not want to burst your bubble but this vampire thing is not over surprises are in store a child from a rape? Between the characters of Caleb & that Barrington gal played by Erin Presley the actress has supposedly been on set filming and she too thinks John is Caleb. This may be a sly way of FV & RC keeping the actor Michael Easton on the show.
I don’t think they need a sly way to keep Michael Easton on the show, he’s got great chemistry with Kelly Monaco who kinda needs a storyline.. they need to have Jason’s memorial and move on. He (SB) has.
my only beef with this is; Lucy not be written in to a corner…. i want her “normal” to interact with Laura, Luke, Kevin, Mac, Scotty, Tracy, Monica… etc….

I thought they wanted the character John back on OLTL that is the only reason I thought they were going down this road of the vampires again. I guess I am out of touch. Lol
The short-list is how many soap weddings have gone off without a hitch of som kind? This one was predictable if anything. Nick and Gabi have zero chemistry and even less history. They’ve known each other for what, 2 months? Ugh. What happened to story telling? Romance? Intrigue? I watch soaps for STORYLINES, not flash-in-the-pan ratings grabs. Unless NBC & Sony give Days more air-time and a better budget, I don’t think ratings will improve on the level they’re hoping for. The 40% cut they were hit with in ’08 really hurt the show, and indeed, the entire genre.
The only reason Y&R has been #1 for umpteen years is not because every year the stories have been great, they have not been that good, and Y&R was boring and stagnate.
But- Y&R is shown in 32 countries as is the BB..
There is something, someway, that gives them both those ratings even through the awful times which were many in past years…
Perhaps ABC should also go international ..
I don’t think international showings affect American ratings, but Sony does make money selling the broadcast rights to other countries, so this gives them more cash to reinvest into the shows, allowing for bigger budgets and the like. But the ratings are determine by Americans and Americans alone. Personally, my theory has always been the time slot for these two shows is golden. In most States I think it is on around noon hour- more viewers are available to watch on their lunch hour. Put GH on at the same time in the same markets and we might see a real showdown between the two.

I think it’s because…. Y&R starts at 12 noon… in my time zone… and people… normally… and are so used to: turning the TV on… and it plays and is counted.. whether they watch it or not…

unfortunately…. DAYS and GH are on at the same time, as well… so hence… give or take… less or more viewers… so, much stronger competition….
I can’t fault DAYS for being 4th….. 4th… (last) in the ratings… .

The week was Ejami all the way….You have no idea how many Ejami just gave up on them ever being together so just quit watching…They…We…are back

Um…I certainly didn’t watch for Gabi/Nick. I watch for Will/Sonny and this wedding had everything to do with the drama of the baby reveal. I don’t care about Ejami. If they get together, fine. If they don’t, fine. I just wish Sami would make up her fracken mind. But this fan is a WilSon fan all the way!

So lets just deal with the elephant that people keep dragging back into the room: The day EJ raped Sami.
When EJ came to Salem he came specifically to wreak havoc on the Brady’s. The story was written in such a way that we weren’t supposed to know his intentions initially. When the writers continued writing EJ’s character they were writing for EJ….not for Ejami. They did not set out to write a story about a woman who falls in love with her rapist. I repeat: They did not set out to write a story about a woman who falls in love with her rapist. Unfortunate for them (and fortunate for us) something happened. That something was called Chemistry! It was a chemistry that transformed EJ the rapist and Sami the victim into EJAMI. The powers that be tried for a long time to ignore and deny this chemistry. I am also sure their reluctance to put Ejami together over the years was because of the rape. The rape was a part of EJ Dimera’s character, not a part of Ejami’s storyline. I was initially going to say that EJ raping Sami was a mistake, but it wasn’t a mistake. It would have worked, If only James Scott and Allsion Seewney didn’t have such amazing chemistry and work so well together. EJ could have just raped Sami and we all could have just hated him as we always did with the Dimera’s. At least that is what was supposed to happen. So how long are we going to continue to punish James Scott and Allison Sweeney for something that was outside of their control? And yes, not allowing them the opportunity to be together on screen as EJ and Sami would be punishing these two actors as anyone watching knows that Allison Sweeney and James Scott bring out the best in each other when it comes down to their acting together. For all those still on the rape soap box: Lets not get lost in fiction. Don’t be angry at EJ, be angry at the writers for not noticing sooner that James Scott and Allison Sweeney are Ejami. Then forgive the writers and allow yourselves to enjoy the amazing love story these two actors work so hard to portray. Finally, for anyone healing from a rape or sexual assault I must say that Daytime drama is not the place to expect sympathy and compassion on such matters. My heart does go out to you and I pray you can somehow put this issue to rest as you continue on your journey to healing.

not since the DAYSaster… has EJ been what he’s capable of….. even i have to say…. once and for all… to keep days in the front lines….. give EJ and Sammi romance…. if not… geez! his scenes with Will…. getting him a Lawyer… listening to Will about his troubles… giving him a hug… showing a different side of EJ….
They should be back working together.

EJami was not the reason for the ratings, the wedding was. EJami weren’t even on the days of the wedding. It was about Gabi, Will and Nick. Not everything is about, has to be about, or will be about EJ and Sami. I’m tired of them always being on, showcase the vets! Bring back Bope! Give us some mystery! EJami are boring and overdone. Tired of their loud-breathing and hate boinks.

i know this goes against redeeming Peter, as a love interest for the entrapped, what to do with…. Hope and Jennifer….
re-hiring Peter would give so much potential to the show as a whole… and for so many of the actors currently on.
That would only work if they recast. No way in hell NBC/DAYS would consider rehiring Jason brooks.
I thought the wedding scene and aftermath were good. Even if I knew what was going to happen, I tuned in to see how it would all play out. I particularly liked the conversations of family and friends after the ‘reveal’. Frankly, I am not a big fan of the Nick/Gabi relationship, but the conflict/ dilemma of Gabi having Will’s baby because he is gay , and how it all plays /works out among Gabi/Nick/Will/Sonny is somewhat interesting. I like the Will/Sonny relationship a lot. Sonny has been great , and Will has been excellent.
I would like Days to have more of a surprise element because a lot is predictable, but I do think that creating these human dilemmas/conflicts then bringing in many of the characters together in a larger scene like the wedding is a decent formula to draw viewers in.

GH needs to finish off Maxie, Britney, Sabrina, Felix and all of the other filler charcters that don’t really contribute much to the show….And put the focus back on their vets. RC’s kooky characters just aren’t working.
B&B needs to get Taylor over Ridge and the vendetta against Brooke once and for all. She’s beautiful, smart and a great mom. Move her forward into a new life with a new man….And not RIDGE’s father for Pete’s sake. Yuck!
Liam needs to decide and stick with it. Mature him and give him a VOICE, because the fans are sick of his indecisiveness. What truly bothers me about this show is how the women have relationships with brothers, their fathers their sons etc. Brooke has been with Ridge, Thorne, Eric and kissed Thomas! THen she started in on her daughters husbands, and now her sister’s. Same thing with Taylor who is now going to be with Eric. Ugh! Bring on NEW guys for these women…Mature the women!
OK. I’ll drop the EJami hate. For the record though, I’ve never bashed Ali nor James – to the contrary, I’ve told people that they are not to be held responsible for the actions of their characters. If TPTB want EJami and they have a genuine following, I can respect that – just because I’m not fond of them doesn’t mean I won’t watch. What gets me though, is that so many characters are being written out of character right now and the supercouples are all split. John would never leave Marlena, nor Salem. She would never think for a second that he would be sleeping with Kristen if she weren’t with Brady. Brady stole Titan from Victor & he’s falling for Kristens lies? Bo is…where again? Parking the car? In the bathroom with the sports section? Patch & Kayla divorced…(I think it’d be cool if Bo died & the body was found, but then disappeared & at the very end of an episode, we saw the Fancy Face drifting in the fog…with 2 figures on board & the sound of a harmonica playing as they drifted into the night…but I digress). The only split that was believable was Abe and Lexie – but that entire storyline was just amazing! I’ll give EJami fans what they want and tolerate the pairing – because Ali & James are just astounding actors, but I wish TPTB at Days would allow at least one couple to be happy. John & Marlena are the foundation couple much like Tom & Alice were back in the day…they need that on the show for the other pairings to look up to & get advice from. OK, off my soapbox & thanks to those who called me out on it – no hard feelings I hope.
Soaps have a long history of redeeming rapists when the actor who played the rapist becomes popular. Luke on GH, Jake Mckinnon on AW, and even Jack on Days raped his future his future sister in law Kayla. If Days truly want Ejami together, and if they haven’t done so, they should address it, bring it out into the open, like they did with Jack and Kayla when the character Jack caught on with his romance with Jennifer.
It would be great if writers had a crystal ball to know in advance if a character catches on- like EJ did. I think originally he was just suppose to come to town and cause trouble and leave. Redeeming them sometimes has to happen, but the best way to redeem the character is have the character admit to it, own up to it- and not sweep under the rug and pretend it never happened.

Thanks Flo- watched the clip. IMO the show has dealt with it. Sami gave him a clean slate- but obviously some fans have not– I just like good story telling, if it is a good story I really don’t care who is with who, because I know soap couples come and go- I stopped rooting for particular characters to be together long time ago just to avoid the frustration of the see-saw that all soap couples go through.
Flo, I’ve never seen that scene…thank you for the link. While I don’t see the chemistry between EJ & Sami, I know others do, so as long as TPTB bring John back to Salem & Marlena, I can deal with the whole EJami thing.
The wedding fall out was yes an issue that was finally addressed , however ,there are other issues finally getting addressed .EJAMI = the higher viewership and ratings gain …Thank you TPTB for realizing this extraordinary relationship for what it is and finally worthy of a chance to unfold on screen .
The only thing about the wedding disaster I enjoyed was that Gabi didn’t get her happy ending, and that Alison Sweeney (Sami) got to act her ass off!!! EJami do nothing for me. I want her with Lucas, or with someone new all-together.
Y&R has been really amazing since JFP/JG took over. It’s been more consistent and really a much more grounded, enjoyable soap. The only gripe I have had is with the recasts they’ve done, and the annoyance of Jack’s addiction storyline in the beginning.
B&B really did a beautiful job with Stephanie’s death and dealing with her aftermath. I feel like there should be more consistency like that, instead of the constant love triangles of the series. Hope/Liam/Steffy is beyond stale, Brooke VS. Taylor is not working for me anymore, and this whole Bill/Katie thing needs to end. I’ve loved them together, but Katie needs excitement and something more stable for her and William.
GH is a HOT MESS, minus the HOT. The vampire storyline has to be one of the most comical things (and not in a good way). I’m tired of the influx of new characters dominating the scene. I want more Anna/Duke/Robert, I’m tired of Robin being “dead”, and some core characters need to return like Jax and Bobbie. I’m not excited about Genie Francis’ return and can bet you it’ll stale out within no time. Get rid of Sabrina, Britt and Felix. All of them need to go. They add nothing but annoyance to the plot.

DOOL has been incredible lately. The return of Kristen amd Chloe have been fantastic. I wish the show would have moved Eric in a different direction. It seems slow and dull, especially his scenes with Nicole. If he was not a priest, they could be funny and hot. Ari Zucker has chemistry with everyone. I want to see Sami, Nicole, Kristen, Kate and Chloe have some interaction and would love to see Kristen and Kate in a business power struggle. I love Maggie and would to see her do something besides obsess over Daniel. I also wish DOOL would get a new hairstylist and wardrobe department. Jennifer looks like she is raiding Alice’s closet. Make her more fun and sassy. I vote to trim the cast and get rid of people who have no history with the show. Why did DOOL recast Cameron, who only has history as Lexie’s brother? Adrienne and Justin need to be used in a great storyline involving Victor. Why is Stefano never on the show and only appears via phone or skype? Wouldn’t it be fun to see Abe be paid with the sassy black nurse at the hospital. Kayla is boring as toast, so bring back Stephanie. Lastly, please either bring Bo back or make his character disappear. Peter Reckell’s departure is killing Hope’s character.
Daniel & Jennifer are a cure for insomnia and watching Maggie pimp them is just painful. I love Eileen Davidson, but I want to punch Kritter in the throat until she stops twitching. The Nick/Gabi/Will/Sonny thing is pretty boring, IMO and the rest of it is filler. I must admit though, I like how Chloe and Annie are messing with Jennifer. Brady is a drooling moron, and I’m looking forward to seeing Nicole really ROYALLY screw with Kristen. Nic is familiar with all things DiMera and I’m hoping she is the one to bring John back to Salem. Then have him & Mar re-unite in a nice slow-burn romance way, re-marry and become the foundation couple of Days. Deidre & Drake have been overlooked for a front-burner storyline for too long now, and quite frankly, they’ve earned one!
Soap fans have been screaming for years that good writing, good acting, involving all generations without underwear model newbies and stupid gimmicks (clones, bringing people back from the dead, vampires, etc.) will keep us watching . Y & R are you paying attention???

Steve Burton is Jason. Period. Just like Genie Francis is Laura, Tristen Rogers is Robert Scorpio, and Stephen Nichols is Patch. I’m confused as to why they cut their losses with these other daytime stars (too recognizable in another role) and now they’re betting the farm on Steve Burton.
Vampires oh is not gh doing story like that, y&r to my knowledge has never did one of those. Get real shelly ever soap has bought somebody from the dead , yes I want good writing and acting, but you got have style and substance to go with that techincal stuff.
I think you may have misunderstood my response (seriously, don’t post at such a late hour). My point was to to let the ptb know that old school storytelling will bring back the daytime viewer. Incidentally, I’m not thrilled with the resurgence of the gh/ Pc vampire storyline. I never suggested that y & r resorted to such campy foolishness. But that show has become completely unrecognizable to me.
I have a job so I post when I can, old school storytelling is what all soaps need, but all soaps are gonna half to change their selves to fit these days and times.( this generation).Ill post when I have time bossy.

TIred of the fans debating about Ejami…it is so polarized ….that is exactly what makes it good daytime drama. What made and continues to make the whole Nick/Gabi story so good is that it has affected and interweaved so many characters making for a nice on screen mix. The pregnancy plot point has resulted in multiple characters interacting & reacting & being affected in ways that stay true to their nature. Also looks like there will be lots of subplots as a result. Gotta respect that writing!
No, I don’t “gotta” respect writing. Especially when it takes 2 people that barely know each other and pair them up to get married. Or 2 other people that are beyond dull and shove them down our throats to get us to buy the writers idea that they are a supercouple in the making. Nick & Gabi are WAY too young for any of this to work and watching it blow up in their faces is the only thing to look forward to. The Jennifer/Daniel pairing is an insult to viewers who still miss Jack. Sami is unrecognizable and unwatchable. EJ is a shadow of his former self. Hope without Bo? John leaving Salem & Marlena? No – I refuse to respect writing that turns characters inside-out to suit the whims of lazy writers who refuse to pay attention to the history of the soap while at the same time insulting the viewers who have been watching for years. The powers that be at NBC & Sony need to help Corday find writers who will write storylines for the characters, not re-write characters to suit their half-***ed storylines.
I think they need to fix the missing Bo thing stat. I know children and some adult characters disappear for weeks but at least they do appear. Heres a Bo story: Hope and the Bradys recieve tragic news that Bo allegedly drowned in a boat accident but no body found.(In case they get Peter Reckal back in the future.) A distraught Hope drowns her sorrows in drink. Maggie, a former alcholic, worries about Hope’s increase drinking but Hopes in denial and refuses Maggie’s help. Doug and Julie try to help the troubled Hope but she sneaks drinks behind their back and is now an alcholic. Sonny is struck by a hit-and-run driver and is in a coma for weeks. A drunken Hope is to blame for Sonnys accident when its proven Hope’s car hit him. Its later revealed Nick borrowed Hope’s car without permission and the one who hit Sonny. A tearful Will is by Sonnys side, and when Will says he’ll always love him, a weak Sonny warmly tells Will he’ll always love him. In Italy Stephano is in hospital for high blood pressure. He sees an unconcious man in another room and tells the nurse its his son E.J. but Stephano lied. The man is unable to move or open his eyes but is able to say just one word:Hope. BO BRADY IS ALIVE. But a devious Stephano plans not to reveal his identity. What evil plans does he have for Bo?

I was planning to add the Chelsea character to explain how the writers could bring her back with my possible story idea where shed cause Hope some trouble causing Hope’s drinking to increase. I just wanted to show they could still do interesting stuff for these characters if they really wanted to.

Yep, no body found. Or, the body is found & then disappears again for some bizarre reason…tornado? My previous post was to show that the DOOL people could do storyline for Bo and Hope if they really wanted to do it. Bo would be lost at sea until they can work things out to get Peter Reckal to come back and if he did the part with him and Stephano would be a way to write him back in. This was all just a suggestion, nothing more. If they cant wotk it out with the actor then they should recast or kill Bo off. They could do a storyline as Hope a single mother, bring Shawn D back, and sometime down the road find romance with Rafe or someone new.
P.S. I was tired of no believable absence explantion for Bo unless he went up the Horton staircase and dispeared. If he just came back after a lengthy absence visiting Shawn and Belle or just killed off i could accept it. I do hear they may mention something today about it.

Those are kknded good ideas, I would not kill off bo , I would recast him with a great actor maybe mark collier, lorenzo lamas, jack scalia, robert kelker kelly, etc. And hope and rafe pairing is a diaster waiting, days is trying to gain ground and writers need to write decent stories or good ones and tread lighty were the fans or viewers are concern.
We can have opinions on what made days ratings shoot up, all day and nite, but simple fact is that the show gain a lot of viewers and being a days fans, I’m glad, no matter what cause it.
