RATINGS: Days of our Lives Red Hot!

Courtesy/NBC

The ratings are out for the week of February 5th through the 9th, and it was NBC’s Days of our Lives who gained an impressive +117,000 total viewers, and even more impressive is that the show under head writer Ron Carlivati is up +320,000 in viewers from last year at this time.

DAYS in the total viewer category is now only +156,000 viewers away from third place General Hospital (2,529,000  to 2,529,000, respectively). During the ratings week, the fallout from Andre’s murder played heavily in Salem.  In addition, DAYS is in 3rd place in the womens 18-49 demo ahead of The Bold and the Beautiful.  The 52-year-0ld daytime drama was the only network soap to show increases in all key demos for the week including: women 18-34 and 25-56.

The Young and the Restless gained +74,000 total viewers for the week, but they have tied an all-time low for the second week in a row for the ratings share in the womens 18-49 and 18-34 demo. The Bold and the Beautiful gained +26,000 total viewers, but both CBS Daytime dramas are down in viewers from last year at this time.  B&B also hit an all-time low in the 18-34 total viewer demo.

As for General Hospital, the ABC soap was the only soap to lose total viewers for the week with -63,000. GH also lost viewers in all the key demos for the ratings period.  Check out the entire ratings picture via SON here.

Numbers are based on Live+Same Day ratings

(Compared to Last Week/Compared to Last Year)

Total Viewers
1. Y&R 4,448,000 (+74,000/-96,000)
2. B&B 3,617,000 (+26,000/-55,000)

Good for DOOL! I was thinking about some people feeling that the multiple personality story was just Ron doing the Vicki/Nicki…Jess/Tess OLTL and Connie/Kate GH stories…but Abigail didn’t just split into a different person; she took on the identity of her friend. Very different than having multiple personalities of yourself…each “fighting” to gain control and leading different lives. Abby as Gabby is an interesting twist to his other incarnations.

As for GH? I think it’s been great. Not sure when these numbers are calculated but if they’re after Genie Francis was “demoted” that probably accounts for the huge drop in ratings. I like Genie and I like Laura…not enough to stop watching and not enough to want the show to take such a hit that it’s canceled. If there is a correlation the powers-that-be have a choice to make: if they WANT the show to continue they’ll bring her back; if they want it to fail this might just be the out they needed to justify cancellation.

I agree, I really like “Gabigail”, she’s the best character on the show!

Numbers are down for GH because of a ton of viewers started boycotting GH when they got rid of Genie.

Im doing the same for the destruction of PATCH and the constant hiring of the worst

Isn’t she, though, blake?….. never thought this is where TPTB would go with Abbi….but, it’s working.
I said from the onset that the culprit would be Abbi or Gabi……the least people we would suspect.
However, I feel something is not right about this…..Abbi is being ‘maneuvered’ by something or someone.
Would Stefano kill his own son to reach some twisted goal? Yes!!

GH’s numbers have not been great even when Genie Francis was on. The show is in a rut, nothing exciting in a long time.

Yeeoooouuuch! Rebecca, you have properly called me out. Mea culpa…

I’ve certainly been a supporter of the Me Too movement and will continue as such. While I do miss the actor in that role, I wasn’t thinking: a moment of thoughtlessness on my part…

LOL, Jamesj! You know I luv ya…just a bit of tough luv to snap you back to your senses!:)

Ha!

WHOA !!!!!
DAYS is now only +156,000 viewers away from third place General Hospital (2,529,000 to 2,529,000,,,,

RC will bring it home!!!
GH made a huge mistake letting Ron go and by doing so that created a biggly uuuuggge competition.

Ron Carlivati is up +320,000 in viewers from last year at this time.

( GH has lost more than gained )

If RC keeps rollin on Days will be atop GH sooner than latter

(( Day’s has Bad guys, real Bad Guys for excitement and thrills))
(( seems; many don’t want to watch GH a dull boring soap of Saints ))

GH needs to go back to it’s core , it’s cornerstone, the crime families and the good/bad guys along with exciting love stories and the couples and their life and death adventures ..

GH was never a Traditional soap, it was never as the other soap it was stand alone unique.. until 2013. GH rocked, since 2013 GH has lost it’s being …

PS, su….I am so absentminded , LOL….forgot to prays both Days and Ron.
DOOL is starting to gain momentum….it’s bringing it !! Love the stories….can’t wait for Theresa to ‘sock it’ to Brady. Ugh…
I guess I haven’t given Ron enough credit. Good show!!

Praise….as I said, autocorrect has a mind of its own.
Also, su, have you started watching Days?…. or are you just comparing? I think you should, seiously, start watching, my friend….try it once, you’ll be hooked!

Not hooked turned off. Days has no romance its all about the villains and the good are written off. No heart in Carlivati’s soul less Days

hi Celia..
I tune into Days off and on mostly off lol
I have to give kudos to all that can watch 4 or 3 soaps I have to push GH and Y&R into my late-night hour before sleep.

good thing I watch online I can watch both soaps in an hour of time..

General Hospital needed to let Ron go. Sorry, but he was truly bad there. Yes, he might’ve had some bright spots, but, for the most part, his story-telling was stale and very boring to watch. And you saying GH lost its being in 2013 means you couldn’t have liked Carlivati’s regime, since he was there in 2013.

Honestly, I feel like the current regime of Shelly Altman and Chris Van Etten are doing a great job with the soap.

Agree, Scott. I think GH is more stable now and less ‘out there’ in its stories. Still, I find it lacking in many ways. GH always has been the more adventurous soap but after decades of Gothic sci-fi and mob violence, I long for something more authentic, especially with the hospital setting at the core.

I agree with you 100% Scott…

hi Scott..
I said ” since 2013 GH has lost it’s being ” ..
to mention; the black and white 50th was outstanding, it was noted as a ‘hall of fame” ..
RC is a brave writer, he will cross the traditional boundaries 🙂

Iakovos…Mike’s alzheimer story is as authentic as it gets and extremely well done. Breaks my heart and I would have rather they brought Mike back for a different type of story so that we’d have this wonderful character on for the duration…but his diagnosis will end him unless they find out he’s been misdiagnosed or his medication halts the progression for years to come.

Hating the “diagnosis”; loving the heart and soul behind it. Both Max Gail and Maurice are about as real as it gets…incredibly poignant. Can’t watch their scenes without getting misty.

Iakovos, the issue is that GH can either be hot or cold; there is no “just right” with them, unfortunately. Chris Van Etten has added some stability, but it lacks in something ultra interesting to grasp onto.

I agree, so great to see Days finally getting the ratings it deserves!

DOOL has me enthralled…yet, I am still on the fence about Abbi as Gabi….makes no sense.
Is her mental disease so far gone for her to adopt Gabi’s persona? So very different from before….then again, Abby Devereaux is Laura’s granddaughter.
I await where this story leads with anticipation….

”Abbi as Gabi?” Sounds like a nursery rhyme….Lol.

I’m glad you tune in, at your convenience, SuzieQ……so do I…late, at night when the little ‘noisemakers’ are asleep—thank goodness for DVR’s, eh? relax-time….mostly, the only time my husband and I have alone, together.
But, I do watch during the day, as well….my son gets home from school just as GH comes on….he’s eight and still in love with Maxie, LOL…..albeit, he’s a bit confused about her little baby bump.
Ahh, to be that innocent, again….

HaHaHa…..you’re right, Shaybelle! Well, look at that !….Abbi Gabi…or a cartoon? Yabba dabba doo?..

It would be more fun, Shay, with the return of Eugene, the cabbie! lol

DAYS has my respect for coming back fighting. Ron Carlivati is hot as hell when it comes to scripting the show. I would be happy to see DAYS and Y&R battle it out for ratings. While the cast on Y&R is perfection, the majority of their stories are lacking right now. Focus on people I don’t care about. But DAYS needs to keep the momentum going because they can do it under the pen of Ron. Kudos DAYS you won my respect back.

Bull. Days is still in last place and the viewer gain are Tyler Christopher’s fans from GH. Carlivati’s story wouldn’t lead a thirsty horse to water.

I agree with you Lia.

DAYS is definitely benefiting from Ron’s love of the genre and his varied storytelling that is giving all the cast — including vets — airtime. The Abby/Gabby plot has a lot of potential and each episode advances story and leaves me wanting more. This is definitely the show to beat right now and I’m glad to see the ratings reflecting that.

B&B never holds my interest for long because of its repetitive brand of storytelling, plus any story that involves Liam, Wyatt, or Steffy as romantic leads has me changing the channel — I just don’t get the appeal of that trio. And whatever happend to those teens who had the twenty minute “Don’t text and drive” story last summer?

GH continues to be a Sonny-centric mess with liberal doses of daytime’s most boring triangle Jason/Sam/Drew. Out of five hours this week, I would venture to say I fast-forwarded through at least four hours of it simply because it featured Sonny, Carly, Sam, Jason, or Drew. Maura West and Michelle Stafford are the only reasons I even watch at this point.

Y&R is a complete disappointment. Mal Young has been head writer for almost six months and there doesn’t seem to be any long term story in place — actually I can’t think of anything resembling a story on the show right now, just lots of random scenes that don’t add up to anything worth investing my time in. The Chelsea exit was so out of left field and completely plot driven and after Friday’s episode I still don’t understand why Chelsea did anything she did (except that plot required her to do it because Melissa Claire Egan is leaving). A major problem with the show is its rushed pace with a lot things happening off camera that people talk about (Hilary’s insemination; Nikki’s affair with Arturo; Rainbow Gardens; Devon’s romance with Simone) and a general lack of direction for the characters. And as I asked in a previous post — if there is no story in place what is the show rushing to get to?

@Alan…Terming GH a “Sonny-centric mess” is a true understatement! Ditto for the strangely somnambulant Drew-Sam-Jason triangle to which you have alluded….it started out promisingly enough, but has become a real snoozer. However, in addition to that sad truth, how could anyone be surprised that this soap experienced a significant drop in ratings after unceremoniously dumping one of its most iconic, beloved and respected characters of all time, in favor of giving her role in the highly-anticipated mayoral storyline to an over-the-hill hussy obsessed with her own sexual gratification? Why the showrunners could even consider such an unsuitable substitute for the adored, substantial Laura in a woman who has apparently proudly become Port Charles’ “town bicycle” is beyond me! When one speaks of Alexis, the old saying “Any port in a storm” comes to mind, which is hardly an enviable position for any female to be in, let alone a former(?) lush and unapologetic libertine pushing 60 who repeatedly revels in behaving like she’s 16! Not exactly a role model for the youth of the city by any stretch of the imagination! If constantly propping up this seriously checkered character is the best GH has to offer, then this one-time top-notch show really has hopelessly lost the plot!

Alan, your logic never fails to amaze me…..it assuages any doubt that what you write is, indeed, what it is ( if that makes any sense).
Your style of penning what’s what makes it so simple to believe your word as gospel….have I told you lately what a great reviewer you are?—you truly have that rare gift of summarizing and encapsulating any writing without breaking a sweat…..
Thank you….I could read you forever, without boredom.

I agree Celia, I love Alan’s writing which he does extremely well.

@Kevin C.
Hey, Kevin,
For sure, my friend……Alan caught my eye not long after I started enjying the” The Michael Fairman On Air Soaps”, LOL, that’s a mouthful.
No flowery words….just tells it like it is, yeah!

So B&B’s 88th wedding for Bridge wasn’t Must See TV? And the return of the Hope/Liam/Steffy triangle Part 7 isn’t riveting for fans? I wish that B&B would take some risks, real risks, with story and try to improve the show. I’m a fan of Ingo Rademacher, but he’s floundering right now, unable to get traction, without a potential love interest, and with no real purpose. B&B is in bad, bad shape.

Good for Days, and I’m hopeful GH will improve. Maybe after Y&R stops focusing on Chelsea and her exit, it can go back to compelling storytelling.

I do wish CBS had more creative control with The Bold and the Beautiful, because Brad Bell needs to be taken out of his positions. His dual role as executive producer and head writer is not working anymore, and a major shakeup is needed to give us something new and amazing! As for Ingo, I love him, but Thorne is not the right character for him. The storyline they’re telling could have been told with Winsor Harmon, and I don’t get why it wasn’t. It was a stupid recast decision by Bell, again, proving he cannot handle what his job is requiring of him right now.

More agreement, Scott. B&B is just in a holding pattern, a do-si-do of bedhopping and improbable romances. Lowest common denominator. No corporate drama. No lasting unions. No romance. What about relevant stories about #metoo or really spotlighting an issue for more than two special episodes. B&B is but empty calories, and not tasty ones at that.

Unfortunately, Brad Bell only does those kind of storylines — a-la the corporate takeover of Forrester, Maya’s transgender storyline, etc. — for Emmy submission. Then, once he’s done that, he goes back to his rinse-recycle pattern of story-telling. He is proof that keeping the same regime for a longer period of time does not always work. Yes, people may like him behind-the-scenes, but he is not the right person to be running the show anymore. I’m hoping that sometime this year we might get a shakeup.

Fantastic! This show is on fire as is Ron Carlivati. Loving double, the addition of Tyler Christopher, too many to mention. Love it all. Thanks Ron, cast and crew.

DAYS is tops at storytelling right now. RC has it hitting on so many fronts. GH continues to be hit & miss. B&B is one broken record. It is a recycling of stories & triangles. Y&R is simply awful. The Chelsea exit is insultingly poorly written, with the Jack/Ashley conflict ridiculous. The rest is a long boring slog. CBS needs to dump Mal Young. He’s terrible.

Hi Gibbt, YES, CBS get rid of Mal Young…I will watch for the 45th anniversary to see how he handles faves coming back but Y&R needs HELP BIG TIME, CBS/Sony, wake up and see that Mal Young is not the answer to this once wonderful show and please rehire Jack Allocco and David Kurtz to handle the background music.

I’m so happy for days I love days!!!!

Days continues its hot streak! Good for ron and the cast of Days!

Yes congrats too nbc soap.the best writer ever Ron Carlivati is the best in daytime can u bring back Molly Burnett please racheal Melvin

Great news and Days, and well deserved! Days is the best soap on right now thanks to Ron C and the cast and crew! Days is on fire! I’d love to see Days beat GH in the ratings!

can you imagine the buzz and enormity

that Days of OUR Lives is leavening : permeate and modify or transform (something) for the better

it’s REELING… on it’s own

i’m gobsmacked… LOL…by being 1 fan rejoicing

this is not a stab in the dark

Ron Carlivati has given me DAYS

Truly – from July 19, 2017 ( or thereabout)

ie: Hattie and Bonnie.. to when Bryan Dattilo started his RUN . he’s something

AND every thing in between: Eileen Davidson to Chandler Massey to Ali Sweeney

to current day story. I am still caught up in : Carrie , Anna, and Roman.

such light and delight that the heart warms

Ron Carlivati : May your team be ever present in building your dream

Salute : ” Like sand through the hourglass… so are the Days or OUR Lives”

bestow the best of show to

May , those +117,000 eyes multiply

yeah, I do want , that @GH – KNOW – what affect they are

I celebrate my two shows. they are far and away better than the top 2 @CBS.

bar none GH and DAYS production TEAMS are equivalent

I just do NOT like Ron Carlivati nor his constant need to repeat DID stories . Same as what he did on every program he worked on. enough already of rehash Ron. Tyler Christopher is so dull on Days its like watching a man sleepwalking. Taking off his shirt does not make u p for the fact that he is a boring actor.

I don’t think Tyler is that great an actor either. This is my first time seeing him so I’m surprised considering the hype and Emmy.

Oh, my!! Be still mine heart…. really, Mo?? I never thought I’d see anyone else say he/she did not give acting accolades to Tyler. I agree with you. I did not like him as Nikolas Cassadine, and I am extremely disappointed in Stefan……falls short for me….hype is right.

Interesting, Jaime, Mo and Celia.
I sometimes wonder if certain actors are just playing the part in such a way as to reflect a certain brooding, non-emoting personality, or if they just aren’t very good actors. For instance, January Jones was so good at playing the seemingly hollow ice princess Betty Draper in Mad Men. I have not seen January in many other movies or shows so I was never able to deduce whether she was just strongly adept at playing a character who represses her emotions and therefore, comes off cold or if that is just all the actress can play. I mean, in real life you often meet people who seem to be poor actors in their real lives! Does that even remotely make sense?
So, now I learn that Tyler is playing the same part with a different name so perhaps he is not that great of an actor.
Well, good–hope he comes back to GH along with Genie Frances. He worked just fine for me as Nikolas Cassadine.

I love Tyler, Harry, and I think he’s doing a great job over at Days. I don’t think it’s his acting that’s the problem; they cast him in a very similar role. Like Nicolas, Stefan O (his character) is well-bred, rich, a business shark and cool on the surface. There really wasn’t much room for him to stretch in such a similar role. IF he had been cast as a James Franco “Franco” role and he was still Nicolas-esque; I’d say he had no range. But the role is too similar to lable him one-note.

What he does do in my opinion is deliver his lines very naturally and believably. And just his stance, his gestures, his little nuances whether it’s rocking back and forth when he’s sizing someone up or a raised eyebrow…works for me.

I’d love to see him reprise Nicolas on GH one day. Seems doubtful but never say never. In the meantime I’m really glad he’s at Days.

Days is the only soap i watch everyday….i will go back to GH full time once Genie is back full time…Y&R-the actors save this show….not into B&B…but if something ever interest me i will tune in!!!

The GH thrill is gone, eh, Jimmy—in the same boat, here, my friend, for more reasons than Genie!

Hey Jimh…

I have such a different take on Genie and GH. Yes to Genie. She’s a vet and exudes warmth, hearth, home. For me, that’s almost the problem. Not that I’d want that to change…she’s warm n’ fuzzy. But that’s all she’s been for so long that I don’t tune in for her. She’s nice to see…but they’ve made her grandma way before her time…from her grandmothering role to her clothes. I found most of her scenes pleasant but not must-see TV.

Kevin, on the other hand, has always held my interest. He was always involved in interesting stories…from his wacky (but much loved Lucy) days, to his “troubled” brother…and back to his Lucy/”Doc” days…just always loved him. And, now, even without Laura, they have him involved with Franco…which I enjoy. I hope that Andre is back to stay…but I wonder if he’s going to find his way back to shrinking people at GH…if so, there better be room for TWO psychologists! Love them both!

Back to Genie. So. I get that she was about to embark on her mayoral story. Might have been good; dunno. Even IF they listen to fan outcry (which I can see being a real possibility) and bring Genie back full time, I hope they give her something interesting to do/say because otherwise I just find her scenes like a warm glass of milk…comforting with a resulting yawn….

I am so happy for DOOL. They were so close to be canceled and here they are gaining ratings. Hope it continues. Ron has a love for the soaps and it shows. I am also a long time viewer of GH. The show needs improvement, I want it to continue on for years.

I might be in a minority here, but although Days is vastly better than it was I don’t find it as good as some are saying. I am from the school that daytime drama bread and butter was and should be romance and I am finding not just Days, but all the soaps on air right now solely lacking in that department. There isn’t one couple anywhere that I am invested in–even the super couples of old have lost their magic– perhaps I am getting too old that I am missing what passes for romance nowadays, but I find without solid romance, soaps are just prime time wannabes.

Hello Mary. I some what agree with you. They no longer keep couples together long enough for you to root for them and want to fight for them. I know that drama keeps the soap turning but if you don’t care about the characters then it doesn’t matter if they are together or not. It is not just romance they are missing, it is just everyday happiness they don’t get. They do seem to thrive on the happiness they get from the clam chowder at Brady’s Pub. lol I have watched Days since I was a young kid. I use to watch others but they were canceled or I quit watching because they became boring. I have came close to quitting Days a few times, but I have such fond memories of watching it with my mom and grandmaw. It makes me feel close to them still. If that makes any sense.

Romance is dead in daytime….it needs to be revived…no supercouples whatsoever…it also needs some humor thrown in to balance out the bleakness!!!

Agree with you, Jimh! Romance is indeed dead in daytime–haven’t seen a truly romantic scene in the longest time. Sex scene, yes–romance, no.
And, yes, needs humor; nothing worse than a humorless soap.

Jimh…absolutely agree. Also add adventure to your list .

Hi Mary SF, I am right with you on everything you said…I am not finding any of the soaps compelling and they have all lost their direction of the hey day of what they were…

Days is on a roll,so entertaining. all B&B is doing is recycling the same stories we’ve seen for years,i can’t take another Steffy,Liam,Hope triangle. GH has been average,i think the show would improve if there was less focus on Sonny. Y&R continues to be a dissapointment,Mal Young has been head writer for 4 months now and i haven’t liked what i have seen Chelsea’s exit story makes no sense and so many of the characters have no direction, why don’t Michael and Lauren have any story?

Love , love , love what Ron Carlivati has been doing both to and for “DAYS OF OUR LIVES”. The drama is riveting, has been helping to keep me at the very edge of my seat, if you know what I mean.

I’m loving the twist that not only does it seem like “Abigail” / “Abby” is the one that “did away with” Andre, but also the intertwining of yet this other twist that seems as if “Abby” / “Abigail” has some issues with either “Disassociative Personality Disorder” and / or “Multiple Personality Disorder”.

An eye-opener, indeed, Ashland. Nice way of putting it, on your part.
I don’t know if I buy it, though….do you, Ashland? Abby never suffered from MPD…..are we to believe it is DPD?
Whatever it is, I don’t remember any given time spent on her ailment…..she sorta-kinda flipped and disappeared.
So, yeah….this is, definitely, a twist. For Abby to transform/morf into Gabi, tells me she is very jealous of her—-perhaps resents Gabi sleeping with her husband—perhaps she envies her popularity as a model, her label.
Abby’s resentment could possibly be manifesting itself in this criminally destructive manner….many possibilities there. ….seems to me Abby wants Gabi to burn.

B&B is totally off the track someone needs to step in and Ingo comes off as the new Thorne as creepy! Don Diamont must need a paycheck bad to deal with how they have destroyed his character. The 600 wedding for Brooke the show never has had the ratings Capitol did even when Bill was writing

Now NBC has to step up with at least a 2 year renewal

Days of Our Lives has gone from my #4 soap to my #2 soap, and that’s due to the creative team of Ron Carlivati, Sheri Anderson and Ryan Quan. Yes, I was skeptical of Carlivati becoming head writer of the soap following his miserable reign at General Hospital and the fact I hated One Life to Live under his regime (in comparing to clips I watched on YouTube, though, I still don’t like that soap), but some time away from daytime has clearly brought some creativity back to him.

Yes, he may be repeating [some] storylines, but I definitely between having the duo of Anderson and Quan to reign him in is helping him out tremendously. I can only hope that this momentum is kept up, and that we can continue to see the ratings rise and sustain themselves, because I do believe NBC might have more faith in renewing the soap again with these ratings in comparison to what we’ve been used to seeing.

However, The Young and the Restless continues to be my #1. They are on fire and are giving me genuine entertainment for a soap opera. So, my order is:

1: Y&R
2: DAYS
3: GH
4: B&B

Third point in your win column, Scott. Don’t you think Mr. Young is just trying to finish out previous stories, hence the shifts and quick finishes recent weeks? I do hope Dina returns I like the soap showed a family dealing with Alzheimer’s and even a wealthy powerful family cannot win. I like Hillary and her machinations. I like the revival of Sharon. I was bummed at the haste of Chelsea’s turn and exit but don’t you sense she has heard from Adam and we are to believe life will go on for them happily away from Genoa City? I was so hoping for a brief cameo Friday of Justin Hartley waiting for Chelsea and Connor. It is time for the Christian paternity secret to be revealed. I think Mr. Young is building and soon there will be a long-term story that will engage all. Eager tosee what this anniversary parade of vets means, yes?

Mal, to me, is [finally] getting into the stories he is wanting to tell. He inherited a state of a soap from someone who wasn’t in it for the right reasons, and he is. As for the Alzheimer’s storyline with Dina, I do believe it will come back. Marla Adams is still apart of the cast, and with the return of Melissa Ordway’s Abby, I do believe she’ll be popping back up to play. So far, I am loving the pace and direction of The Young and the Restless; it’s what I’ve been saying needs to happen to American soaps for the past few years!

Ron C. had 1 1/2 years off between GH & DOOL.

he began his headwriting duties January 2017. which premiered July 19, 2017

so that brings us currently – 7 months and 1 week later.

PER my fave part of your post.

“…I do believe NBC might have more faith in renewing the soap again with these ratings “

I usually defer to su0000 on ratings matters, but for your eye-rolling pleasure are a few visuals to give you a sense of how things are going six weeks into 2018, courtesy of Soap Opera Network. Days is definitely enjoying a renaissance under Carlivati and the momentum is clearly with them. What does this all mean? Who knows, just keep supporting your shows! And to GH, although much improved, Carlivati is eating your lunch and nipping at your heels, so pick up the pace!

P.S. visually, it looked better when it was submitted. I was sabotaged by the lack of functionality on this site. An “A” for effort and a “D” for the ratings…where are all of the viewers going?

LOL…It looks great, Reed! Definite A for effort and comprehensive info!

Where are all the viewers going? Millions have jumped ship; too many other boats (cable, etc) in the sea; but that took decades. The remaining ebb and flow….

Reed – sincere “Thank You” for all the effort. ESPECIALLY

“…And to GH, although much improved, Carlivati is eating your lunch and nipping at your heels “

Great work and commentary, Reed! Thank you!

James, thanks! I’ll rely on you for your wonderful memory of great show moments and the characters that we love anytime! I, however, can generally be trusted with numbers or pithy comments.

Thanks a million, Reed! And please keep the numbers and pithy comments coming! 🙂

Y&R must just have so many more loyal fans? I dont see how this load of crap is STILL #1? Dina and Victor are the only good thing about the show and they are in their twilight years. I like Sharon and Mariah, thats it! Devon is so bad, Hillary has screwed over everyone on the show but somehow will survive. I know, Victor has and still does but he does it to protect his family. Who is Hillary doing it for? HER! Jill is AWOL and Jason Thompson still does nothing for me. And last but not least, Gina as Phyllis is HORRIBLE! She is so mean. That smirk of hers! Who would want to get anywhere near her? And why does she have such anger towards Chelsea? What freakin business is it of hers? I am fine with Chelsea leaving town but I had only wished she would have hit Phyllis with her car on the way out! The show is horrible and mark my words, they will hire back Michael Muhney as the shows night in shinning armor! Thats great but they better have decent writers and a competent EP in place!

“The show is horrible and mark my words, they will hire back Michael Muhney as the shows night in shinning armor!”:

Timmm, I would be most happy with that!

I don’t watch the show, Jamesj75, but it would be a real slap in the face to the “me too” movement to hire Muhney back. There was enough talk to support the actress who accused him…and the fact that he didn’t sue for defamation says a lot. There are plenty of other actors in the sea; if major film stars can be replaced so too can daytime actors.

This is awesome. The show has definitely improved since Ron took over so I am glad to see more people are watching. I hope Days moves up in the standings, but one thing at a time. Yay!

Great job days.love the split personality story.I watch the show every single day never miss it.

Days, should be #2. I don’t watch Y&R right now,but I just don’t see them ever losing 1 spot. Viewers habits. Days has good stories and good characters. Much for young and older.

Those watching soaps have routines. Days is good enough for me to take break during the day. I did that for Guiding Light to see what Reva was up to.

See writers from GL there.

Agree Irene, Days should be at least #2 in the ratings.

Yeah, Days has Lorraine Broderick on the writing team, she was great writing for Guiding Light and I believe on All My Children.

Great job Days I just wonder how long it will take for Chad to realize that Abby has a split personality.I think sooner or later Gabby will come out in front of everyone.I must say that Marci is doping a great job playing someone with a mental illness. I think she looks better in the dark hair then the blond even my friend said so.I am not to sure though if Vivian will keep her mouth shut about seeing Gabby-Abby.Days just keep up the good work and I jsut bet your ratings will continue to grow.

Getting, growing, and keeping audience is not easy in the soap world. But one thing I do like that CBS does is promote their soaps with teaser ads. Just saw one on CBS (serious) news this morning for Y&R. It get’s me ready for the afternoon show and what’s up with Chelsea and Nick, etc. Wish ABC would do the same for GH.

if GH is minus 63000 viewers and Days is 117,000 plus, i have to wonder if the addition of tyler christopher to Days made a difference, certainly some of his fans must have followed him, and he is doing an excellent job in the part he is playing…plus Days has more inclusive story lines, interracial, gay, drawing more minority groups to the soap, keep up the good work Days, we dont want to lose you, i still cry over the loss of Another World

I personally am CANCELLING DAYS OF NOT OUR LIVES BUT Days of Villains only and Ron Carlivati’s follies! You like to promote whatever the producers say whether or not we care. Well for one: Eve is miscast, Brady has no charisma, Stefan is rather dull, monotoned, more Hattie Bonnie makes me sick, casting the twits from space is absurd when you are throwing out Patch for this crap. Mr Fariman, be fair for a change instead of rehashing NBC’s PR dept.

Days Of Our Lives

INTERVIEW: Jackie Cox Talks On Latest Return to DAYS, An Offer for Dimitri, and Life as a Performer In and Out of Drag

On the Monday, December 4th episode of Peacock’s Days of our Lives, Jackie Cox is back and hell hath no fury like a drag queen scorned! With revenge the order of the day on Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart), Darius Rose (Cox out of drag) arrives in Salem with a plan.

As Dimitri (Peter Porte) is about to turn himself into the authorities to save Leo’s skin, Darius gives Von Leuschner a talking to; letting him know that Leo deserves to rot away in prison, and so, to help Dimitri out of town, Darius has a tempting, and yet outlandish way to do just that!

Cox first appeared on Days of our Lives during the limited-series Beyond Salem in 2021 and then on to the mothership in 2022. The drag artist and Rupaul Drag Race alum took time out from his busy touring schedule of his holiday show, Jackie and Jan’s Jingle Jam (coming to a town near you), to speak with Michael Fairman TV all about his recent return to the long-running soap opera, playing ‘soapy’ versions of Jackie/Darius, and if there’s more story to come.

In addition, Jackie talks on the often misperceptions of the art of drag and drag performers, working with his DAYS co-stars since first appearing on the series including: Rikaart, Porte, Billy Flynn (Chad AKA Belinda Chinashop), and much more. Check out our chat with the incomparable Jackie below.

You get asked back to DAYS, once again. Were you shocked that you got the call to return?

JACKIE: You know, what’s so funny is ever since my appearance on Beyond Salem a couple years ago, the fans kind of picked up on this little connection with me and Leo. Which then, Ron Carlivati (head writer, Days of our Lives) kind of expanded into my storyline last year where I came and broke up Leo’s wedding with Dr. Craig Wesley (Kevin Spirtas). What’s amazing is the DAYS fans now think they have seen me in places in the story that I’m not. Like, I was one of the prime suspects for the murder of Abigail DiMera, or I’m somehow helping Leo with other things. (Laughs) The fans have amazing imaginations of their own. I think Ron and the team picked up on that a little bit and have kind of found different ways to work me back into the storyline, which is so cool. I’m there, even when I’m not. That’s so fun for me.

Photo: JPI

As viewers saw on Monday’s episode, you are not in scenes with Greg Rikaart but Peter Porte. Was that a surprise for you coming back to tape a new episode?

JACKIE:  When they called me to come back, I thought I’d be working with Greg again as I have been very much a part of his storyline. However, it was really fun working with Peter, because we didn’t get to work together much on Beyond Salem, even though we were both there. It was fun to kind of like build a connection to Dimitri, because I think that’s such an interesting character.

Were you ever a fan of Days of our Lives before you were even on it?

JACKIE: I would pop in and out when I was a kid when I was homesick. My mom would let me watch a little bit. So, I remember the Stefano of it all, and Hope, and all of those storylines are still in my ether somewhere from when I was young.  Coming into it now, and to see where the storylines have expanded into even more is great. The world is bigger now than maybe it was in the nineties. So, the fact that you have a drag queen dealing with an immigration problem, and getting back at her ex, I think is so wild to me. I couldn’t imagine that kind of a storyline happening back then, but it’s so cool to see now.

DAYS, at times, had shown a lot of forward-thinking to its audience that I don’t think you’d necessarily see on the other current soaps. The way they’ve had you, and other gay, or sexually-fluid characters or romances, or introduced drag into the storylines – all these things they had implemented along the way to make the soap, in its current form, a little more progressive leaning. They are also not on network TV anymore, but on a streaming platform, which gives this most likely an assist, as well.

JACKIE:  What I love about it is, sometimes people just don’t think that we exist. You know what I mean? Maybe drag queens are something they just heard about and they don’t know what we are. I think what’s great is this character is me in my real life. I am Jackie Cox. I am a drag performer who goes around the country to different places and performs and stuff. So, for that to also be my character, it’s not like, “Why is she a drag queen?” It’s like, “Well, that’s just who she is.” I just happen to be there and I know that the daytime audience is so diverse. I love that they get to just see a little bit of my real life brought into Salem in this way. You can’t deny the fact I am Darius Rose and Jackie Cox.

Photo: JPI

It looks like Darius had a plan to ‘help’ Dimitri?

JACKIE: I don’t know if I’m as much helping Dimitri as if I have ulterior motives. I’m pretty frustrated with Leo. He is this charmer and he always gets what he wants. But I think at this point, I’ve had it with him and his schemes. He didn’t get that emerald. He didn’t give me the money from the Beyond Salem. He left me for Dr. Craig Wesley and I’m tired of it. I want to get back at him. Now that I find out he has this hot new little boyfriend, I know just how to do it because Dimitri better watch out, because he has not yet dealt with Jackie Cox yet. I have quite the persuasive offer you’ll see during the episode, and in the performances. I do think you see Dimitri really consider me and consider what I have to offer, which is to steal him a way, and help him escape to Canada with me.

We see you as Darius and Jackie in the episode, but there is a reason for that.

JACKIE: Yes! What’s fun for the audience is, I think, is there’s this tease during the episode, which is, “How are we going to get Dimitri out of here?” So, we take a page from the old drag book of tricks, which is walk right out the front door and let them look right at you, because drag is an amazing disguise. I think that Dimitri should have, could have chosen to be a fabulous drag queen and leave with me, and we could run across the Canadian border together and done cabarets in Montreal! (Laughs).

Photo: JPI

So, this is what Jackie/Darius wants to pull off in the episode?

JACKIE: Oh yeah, and also me, in my real life, (Laughs) I wouldn’t mind doing a cabaret in Montreal. That sounds like a good life to me. I think coming to Dimitri with this offer, which is: “Come with me across the border. Let’s get away from Leo. You haven’t been hurt by him the way I have, but I know you will be.” I think for the Darius side of me, you get to see a little bit of the softer side, in a sense. I really am hurt by Leo and the things that he’s done to me, and had been keeping me from – getting a green card in this fantasy version of my life. I really want to get back at him. What I love about Peter as an actor is, as we were working through this scene, we were able to find all these other levels. I kind of build this little connection through our episode of maybe I’m offering him something that he hasn’t even thought of before, a different kind of life where he’s not this Almanian crook, but maybe he can be a free gay man, maybe drag queen in Canada with me. That’s what’s on the table and the audience sees that. Unfortunately, he doesn’t choose me at the end, but that’s not going to stop me from putting on a fabulous look and walking outta there, anyway.

So then as he leaves, is Darius hurt by all of this?

JACKIE: I’m a little hurt. I don’t think my revenge cup is full at the end of this episode. There’s still a burning little desire for me to get back at Leo by the end of this and maybe a desire for me to just get back into Salem and see if I can find Dimitri again. Let me tell you honey, looking at Peter Porte is not very hard and maybe there’s more men in Salem for me … yet. (Laughs)

Photo: JPI

Ya never know! What was your takeaway from previously working with Greg Rikaart? Had you known Greg before taping Beyond Salem?

JACKIE: No. Greg and I met right then, and it was so much fun. Right away in those first couple of moments, we decided we needed to up this whole backstory, like just the two of us, and then it ended up on the show: that we were from New York, and we were in cahoots together, and then apparently we got married. and all this kind of subtext we worked in. For Greg and my character on DAYS, it was not about us being hot and heavy with each other. It was more about seeing each other as partners in crime very much from the beginning. So, that’s where the hurt for me comes in. I thought Leo was my main ride or die, but clearly he is not.

Photo: JPI

Ron Carlivati has a penchant for writing these types of campy stories. Did you speak with him at any point, and talk about the fact that you would like to do more appearances on DAYS?

JACKIE. Ron did just come to my Christmas show in New York a couple weeks ago. We had a little chat. I can’t say much, but I didn’t die at the end of this. So, there’s always room to come back!  There’s always room for more Jackie.

Photo: JingleJam

Do you find there’s lot of misconceptions about drag queens and people that perform in drag?  Do you think there’s an underlying misunderstanding of it within our culture?

JACKIE: There are a lot of misconceptions. A great example of it for me was last year when I came to Craig and Leo’s wedding. Once I got out of drag, Craig, wasn’t sure how to address me. I just was very clear with the pronouns I prefer out of drag. That was just something that was a matter-of-fact conversation that could happen between any two people. I think sometimes, everyone is scared of what they don’t know or they don’t understand, or are afraid of having a conversation that they think is going to be really horrible. I think the average person, no matter who you are, no matter what side of the political spectrum you are, no matter what gender or sexual orientation you are, everyone just wants to get along in general and have a decent experience walking around the world. I think if you see people like me and my character who’s a drag queen, who’s younger than for example, Dr. Craig Wesley’s character, having just a quick little conversation and then we move on … it’s not a big ‘falling on the sword’ moment. There’s nothing horrible happening. Drag can be a performance. It doesn’t actually matter who you are. Drag is just an expression, and if you love it, great. And if you don’t, you don’t have to come to my show. It’s okay.

Photo: JPI

What did you think about Belinda Chinashop (Billy Flynn), Sonny Delight (Zach Tinker) and Amanda Bottom (Chandler Massey) in the drag show scenes in Beyond Salem? Did you give the guys any pointers, or were you just stunned at how good they were?

JACKIE: We had just shot my drag stuff with them before, and they were like, “We’re doing this later this week.” I was like, “You guys will be fine. Don’t you worry.” They had amazing makeup artists come in and help them, which was great. I think that’s the biggest part. Billy Flynn told me, it was so fun for him to get to do it. I love that. Next time I come to Salem, I think there needs to be a reason for me to get Belinda Chinashop back out of the trunk.

Photo: JPI

You went to college at UCLA in their theatre department, didn’t you?

JACKIE: Sure did. I went to UCLA with Blake Berris (Everett). Blake and I were in the same theater program together and he booked DAYS I think right after college or while we were in college. It was amazing. He started so young. Now, we’re on this show together! How funny! We were like, “Oh my, God. This is amazing.” Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see Blake when I was there this time this time. Hopefully, the timing works out next time. I don’t think Ron Carlivati even knows that we went to school together.

Were you determined once you left UCLA to become a successful performer? What trajectory were you on at that point?

JACKIE: I went to UCLA and I really focused in on theater because I love theater so much. I didn’t actually really do much film or TV, even though it’s the school of theater, film and television. I loved the theatre. Then, after school I moved to New York because that’s where theater is. I got to New York and I realized that the theater industry was not for me, at least at that time. This was 15 years ago or so. It wasn’t quite as progressive, even in the theater industry, as it is today. I mean, to be on Broadway, you kind of had to be this big strapping hunk back then. I didn’t really find a place for me there. I did find it in New York with drag, and that really unlocked something in me. I kind of started building this career as Jackie Cox. I’ve been doing drag now for 13 years. So, for me to come back around to what I maybe kind of started doing in the first place is very interesting. We will see what happens.

Photo: JPI

Now, would you want to take on more roles as yourself, as Darius?

JACKIE: That’s the thing. These days, writers are actually writing material that really connects to who I am. I really want to play more characters, bringing myself to the role is something that’s important to me. So, whether it’s drag, whether it’s a character, whether it’s incorporating some of my Middle Eastern heritage in there, those are all things that I want to bring to life, whether it’s in or out of drag. It’s all on the table. It’s definitely something where I still want it to have that authenticity, to have that reason where it’s me, the actor, not just someone who hasn’t lived it.

So, if you end up with an expanded role of Days of our Lives, would you take it?

JACKIE: Are you kidding? In a heartbeat! My only question to myself and to the writers out there is, am I still going to be me … or is it revealed that I’m not actually Jackie Cox, and that I’m just some delusional fan who thinks I am? (Laughs)

Photo: JPI

In closing, how is Jackie when she walks out the door after this episode?

JACKIE: Jackie walks out the door with a renewed sense of purpose, a burning desire to eventually get back at Leo, and maybe a new friend in Salem. Those are the things that I walk out that door with, for sure.

So, did you enjoy seeing Jackie Cox back on Days of our Lives? Should the soap opera continue to weave Jackie/Darius back into the storylines with Dimitri and Leo and company? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

Lifetime’s ‘Ladies of the ’80s: A Divas Christmas’ Brings Epic Food Fight and “Slapfest Coup de Grâce”

Get ready for the feuding soap opera divas, when five actresses known for their signature primetime and daytime roles are brought together in Lifetime’s new holiday film, Ladies of the ’80s: A Divas Christmas.

Saturday night, December 2nd on Lifetime (8pm ET/7PM CT) marks the highly-anticipated holiday movie premiere featuring: Donna Mills (ex-Knots Landing), Nicolette Sheridan (ex-Knots Landing), Morgan Fairchild (ex-Falcon Crest et al), Linda Gray (ex-Dallas) and Loni Anderson (ex-WKRP in Cincinnati).

Here’s what we do know! In story, five alums from the long-running soap, The Great Lakes reunite for a live Christmas finale. Uh-oh!  Now take a look at the backstory of the colorful cast of characters (pay special attention to the clever twists on the actresses names!)

Photo: Lifetime

LAUREN EWING (Linda Gray) “Everyone thinks I’m so damn good all the time,” confesses the junk food-loving Lauren of her second act as a lifestyle guru. “I don’t know how Gwenyth Paltrow does it!”

DANA CUNNINGHAM (Donna Mills) Now a sitcom mom, she’s yet to make amends to ex-bestie Juliette after abruptly leaving the soap back in the day. Not that she hasn’t tried: “When I thought the world was going to end in Y2K,” Dana says, “I reached out to her, and she never called me back.”

LILY MARLOWE (Loni Anderson) After replacing Dana on ‘Great Lakes’, Lily never again found a role to win her acclaim. “What do I have to show for (my career)? An arc on  For the People – Shonda Rhimes’ only flop!”

JULIETTE MATHESON (Nicollette Sheridan) “She left me for L.A.,” the party girl turned fashion mogul recalls of Dana’s betrayal. Will their feud derail the entire event?

MARGEAUX ROBERTS (Morgan Fairchild) “Fasten your face-lifts, ladies, it’s gonna be a bumpy weekend!” The sassy grande dame of ‘Great Lakes’ sees the Juliette-Dana beef as the perfect escape from her own domestic drama.

Photo: Lifetime

Now, making this all the more hysterical is the director of The Great Lakes reunion special, which makes the five women live under the same roof, is its former child star Alex, who has gotten his ex-girlfriend, Nell to direct the finale. Meanwhile, in the subplot. the ‘Ladies of the ’80s’ come up with a plan to get Alex and Nell back together.

As with any good soap opera, there is a major food fight. Linda Gray shared with USA Today ,”The food fight was one take. And it was fabulous.” And of course, their is a bitch-fest slap-fest. Morgan Fairchild revealed, “Oh honey, we all got ours in. Mine was a simple, ‘How dare you?’ with a slap. But I was hoping for a punch.”

Photo: Lauren Dukoff/Lifetime

The movie’s EP, Larry Thompson, who is a Hollywood manager and has Donna Mills as a client, said that the entire scene peaks with the”slapfest coup de grâce.” What is that exactly? That is when Donna Mills pushes Nicollette Sheridan into a pool in a nod to Dynasty’s Lily bond battle between Dynasty’s Alexis (Joan Collins) and Krystle (Linda Evans).

In case you missed it previously, check out the trailer for Ladies of the ’80s: A Divas Christmas below, also starring Patrika Darbo, Alec Mapa, Mills real-life daughter, Chloe Mills, and Christopher Atkins with theme song by Tiffany.

Now let us know, will you be tuning in to the movie for a premise that should delight many a longtime soap fan? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
