RATINGS: General Hospital Goes On Upswing! Shows Gains Across All Key Demos!

The ratings are out for the week of August 24-28th and it was ABC’s General Hospital, who has been in decline of late in the all key demos and total viewership, that bounced back with a positive week in all main ratings categories!
In fact, GH was the only daytime drama series to gain total viewers for the week with +62,000. Y&R, B&B, and even DAYS, which was expected to perform much better with the first murder in the serial killer storyline, and the return of Stephen Nichols as Patch, albeit for a millisecond at the end of the Friday episode, all ended up in the minus for that category in the ratings period.
GH’s week consisted of Denise being revealed as Ava Jerome (Maura West) on the witness stand in the wrap-up of the Silas Clay (Michael Easton) murder mystery, and the last second reveal on the Friday cliffhanger that it appeared as if Madeline Reeves (Donna Mills) was the culprit. The big news for GH is that it finally had gains in the women 18-49 demo, where it had been previously hitting all-time lows for the last several weeks. GH also gained in the 18-34 and 25-54 demos.
However, Days of our Lives has moved into the #2 spot in the 18-34 demo and is at #3 in the 18-49 demo. Still all eyes are on the NBC soap opera about to celebrate its 50th anniversary, with so many big returns slated in the coming weeks and more of the new writers, Josh Griffith and Dena Higley’s stories about to kick off. A move for DAYS to #3 over GH in total viewers could still be imminent. Can GH stave off DAYS? It will be interesting to see how the ratings shake out in the coming weeks.
The CBS soaps of The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful while slightly down in total viewers for the week with minus 43,000 and 41,000, respectively, continue to hold on to their #1 and #2 spot. View the entire ratings picture courtesy of SON here.

‘Days of Our Lives’ Favorites Making Returns: Alison Sweeney, Christie Clark, Chandler Massey and Bryan Dattilo
Great news for Days of Our Lives fans, now that Ryan Quan is co-head writer of the long-running soap opera. Coming in June of 2027 (since DAYS tapes ten or so months ahead), you can look forward to the returns of Alison Sweeney (Sami Brady), Christie Clark (Carrie Brady), Chandler Massey (Will Horton) and Bryan Dattilo (Lucas Horton).
The foursome is back on set and began last week to tape their upcoming story arc, according to TV Insider. As to what exactly is going on that brings sister Sami and Carrie’s history back up, as well as Will and Lucas’ is only being teased at this time, but suffice to say, it should be intriguing.
Alison Sweeney explained on being back on set, “It was a lot of dialogue and emotion, but with all the best actors to work opposite, we fell into it as if no time had passed. It was really wonderful.”

As to working with the longstanding rivalry of Sami and Carrie, Alison added on working with Clark, “So, it really does feel like we’re sisters. It’s so fun, and she’s such a good actor that she makes everything so natural that you can really disappear into those stories.”
JUST LIKE OLD TIMES
It also seems like the deep-history, which often had the sister fighting for the love of Austin Reed, but that might not figure into the equation this time, or will it?
Alison indicated what she thought of the scripts she was given. “I felt like when I read it, it was a page-turner. I was very excited. There’s a lot of history here, and a lot of things that haven’t been said. So, it’s really not like, ‘Oh, rehashing stuff.’ And now having played some of the scenes, I’m psyched.” Sweeney added, as for the men, working again with her on-screen son, Chandler Massey and Will’s on-screen father Bryan Dattilo, was also extra special.
The last time DAYS viewers saw Sami on the canvas was back in November of 2025, when she revealed she has gotten engaged to never-before-seen Dante Vitali. As for Clark, she last visited Salem for the episodes surrounding John Black’s memorial in June of 2025.
Chandler Massey’s Will Horton last made a visit to Salem in November of 2025 when he attended the gala for the Tom Horton Free Clinic as part of the soap opera’s 60th anniversary celebration. Bryan Dattilo was last seen in December of 2025. So, by the time we see all four again it will be close to two years since they were on new episodes of the series. Time to look forward to June of 2027.

‘Days of Our Lives’ Alum Al Calderon Talks On His Daytime Emmy-Nominated Scenes as Javi Hernandez (Exclusive)
Last Tuesday, Al Calderon scored the first Emmy nomination of his career for his role as Javi Hernandez on Days of Our Lives.
Calderon name was announced as one of the performers competing for gold in the Emerging Talent in a Daytime Drama Series category at the upcoming 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards on October 30.
This week, Calderon chatted live on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel for a one-on-one conversation where he discussed: his nominated scenes and time on the Peacock streaming soap opera, his decision to leave DAYS, his role of Nico Silva on Brilliant Minds and its sad cancellation, plus his passing the torch of Javi to Jacob Martinez, who took over the role on-screen on the June 30, 2026 episode of Days of Our Lives.

JAVI REVEALS TO LEO THAT HE HAD A DAUGHTER WHO DIED
Al revealed the scenes that comprise his now Emmy-nominated reel have at its epicenter the heartbreaking moments from the September 12, 2025 episode. In it, Javi shares for the first time to Leo (Greg Rikaart) that he had a daughter named Solana, with a woman he was seeing named Sylvia. One fateful day, Sylvia left their child in a car when she went to work and the little girl died. Javi had blamed himself for not being the parent to take his daughter to school that day since he was hungover the night before, therefore it opened up the opportunity for something to happen to the his child, and it did.
The multi-talented actor/singer explained his reel: “It was the scene where he is talking about his daughter to Leo. I also included the scene where Javi goes to talk to Melinda (Tina Huang) and to see if it would be a viable option to adopt, because I wanted to introduce the subtlety and nuance of why Javi kind of has this whole connection to Tesoro, in a way.”
It is true that Al can bring the tears and make us cry right along with him during his run as Javi. To that, Calderon added, “I’ve read the comments that I’m a little bit of a crybaby, so I didn’t want the entire reel to be of me crying, but I wanted it to show a little bit of an emotional range of the restraint that Javi was feeling so I included that scene
In addition Calderon shared, “I also included a really beautiful scene with Cherie Jimenez (Gabi Hernandez, DAYS) where I’m looking at photos of Tesoro, and of course, Javi is crying. I just wanted to show the relationship between Javi and his family as well, and as I mentioned the reveal of the child that he lost.”

ALUMS AL CALDERON AND ALICE HALSEY REPRESENT DAYS OF OUR LIVES IN EMERGING TALENT CATEGORY
In a twist of fate, Calderon is also nominated in the Emerging Talent category with Alice Halsey who played Rachel Black. Halsey is currently starring in the reboot of Little House on the Prairie in the lead role of Laura Ingalls on Netflix.
As to his hope on Emmy night, Al expressed, “Of course, I want to win, but Alice Halsey is going to give me a run for the money. And if’s not me (who wins the award), it better be her!”

Emily O’Brien Talks On Her Y&R Past as Jana Hawkes and Working with Peter Porte on ‘Days of Our Lives’
On the latest edition of Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart which dropped on Tuesday, July 21, Emily O’Brien is the featured guest. As soap fans know, Emily has worked with Rikaart both in her first soap role on The Young and the Restless as Jana Hawkes and now on Days of Our Lives in her current role of Gwen Rizczech.
While Emily continues on DAYS, she has very impressive list of credits in the other part of her career as a voice-over actress and one in motion-capture in some of the most popular video games in the world.
O’Brien was first seen on The Young and the Restless back in 2006. She recalled her landing the role which eventually paired her for her five year run with Greg Rikaart.

BEING CAST ON THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS
“The role was just a few days and she wasn’t even supposed to be English,” Emily recalled. “The role was originally called Jade. Karen Rae, the casting director of The Young and the Restless at the time said to me “Oh, you’re from England. Try it with the dialect.” I put it on and she said, ‘I’m going to bring you back at like 3 for s callback.’ So then they changed the role to Jana and they said she’s going to be a Brit. I was only supposed to be on for like five episodes and it turned into 5 years.”
In explaining why she loved crazy Jana, Emily shared, “Jana was sort of like the misanthrope. She was just was the odd one out and I loved it. I felt so comfortable playing that because she was just eclectic and weird and she loved playing with Ouija boards and she rode a motorbike. There was just so much color to bring to her. It was just such a great match to play with Greg (Kevin), and Christian LeBlanc (Michael) and Tracey Bregman (Lauren).

GWEN, DIMITRI AND LEO ON DAYS OF OUR LIVES
On Days of Our Lives, the Leo, Gwen, Dimitri dynamic is quite unique and been through many schemes and entanglements. Often Emily finds herself in repartee with her ex-lover, Dimitri, who turned out to be gay and then had a thing for her bestie, Leo (Greg Rikaart)!
During the conversation, Greg and Emily sang, Peter Porte’s praised with O’Brien expressing, “Peter is just ready to play. He comes on set prepared. I’ve never seen him with his script. From blocking and rehearsals, he doesn’t have it. He’s prepared. He’s a physical actor and he always trying to come up with something. I think he let me slap him. He let me kiss him. He let me throw a cheeseburger in his lap. He’s ready for anything for anything.”

Its good GH is on the up but will it last…maybe Anna’s return will help…got me a little more interested again—i actually watched an entire episode…lol…still the show isnt great it isnt too bad but i feel Days will eventually take over the number 3 spot…hey, even if one watches a soap and dislikes the other, lets hope they manage to stick around for many years to come!!!

I am back to Days and GH is slowing for me… we will see how the new writing is.. but I don’t have my hopes high for this duo…. they were let go from Young and Restless for low ratings.. why why why why . .would they think they could help ratings at GH… I am very disappointed in whoever hired them…BIG MISTAKE!!!!!

I can’t see him staying too much in love with her if she told him the truth! Think of how upset he was when she came clean about hiding Danny’s paternity? The only way he MIGHT not totally hate her is if she tells him the truth and he doesn’t remember who he is. He MIGHT be upset but eventually get over it if he still has no idea who he is he only knows his love for Liz.

Jake may not pair up with Sam. I hope these lady-writers don’t revisit that scenario. I really think that partnering Kelly with Billy in the Nikolas exploit-thingy was contrived to test the waters…..to see how these two interact. I think I could……I think I could…..I think I could…..Ahhhh, poof….it’s gone, gone, gone. Perhaps, it does work for the Sam/Jason fans. However, one must remember Billy is not Steve….thank-ye, gods! Sam was in love with Jason, the mobster. Since then, she has been introduced to a ‘cleaner’, for lack of a more ‘appropriate’ word, environment. Thus, her perspective is different; I would say calmer; not walking on eggshells, per se. So, Jake could fit that bill. albeit I see no spice, I see no furtive looks of come hither….I ‘hear’ no heavy breathing, that strong, encompassing feeling that enraptures the body, mind, heart and soul.
Furthermore, it would be an injustice to put Billy through the Sam-torture. I thought I had seen something, but naw…..Sam’s personality needs refurbishing. Yeah!
Nonetheless, as far as Elizabeth is concerned…..it is never good to keep secrets in a relationship…..specifically, such an enormous, dangerously explosive secret…..never ends well. Elizabeth has lost my respect. Even if she decides, at this late date, to tell Jake the truth, I will still hold it against her for making him, and everyone close to Jason/Jake suffer this way, especially his children.
But, who’s to say he will have to be coupled with anyone? Jake needs the time and freedom to get reacquainted with family and friends. as Jake….he is brand new. Let him grow into a Quartermaine….his rightful name. The best thing the writers could do would be to let Jake be, for a long while. Give him distance from any affairs of the heart. Allow him to take it all in….past and present, so that he can make wise and sound decisions for his future….not go head-long into any relationship.

the writers spiraled this storyline.. thinking they could make something out of “Jason” women… Carly, Sam, and Liz…. leave well enough alone.. and reunite “Jason” with his mother and aunt Traci… and salvage … Liz is his strongest potential

Thank you Ces….I feel exactly the same way. I am SO SICK of Liz obsession with Jason. She had her chance at Jason decades ago….instead she chose Zander and ended up having his child Cameron who should be at least 15 or 16 by now….not 12. Personally I think “Sam” has more spark with the Billy Miller Jason than she does with Patrick.
I totally agree Janie, love Kelly with Billy Miller. He seems to wake her up a bit since this Jason is much more likely than Stone Cold Steve Burton was.
Liz needs to just stay home with her 20 kids and stay off-screen. She is a deceitful liar and I’m not even buying any chemistry with her and Jason/Jake. They are boring!

It is hard to see how smug Victor is on Y&R is and not have the whole story come out for the entire town and for him to feel the hate he has earned, especially from his two grandchildren who lost their loves. Maybe like me the numbers are going down because others are sick of this as well.

it would be an amazing performance to see the emotional , vulnerable beaten down version of victor for a change! eric braedan can do emotional very well ! victors been mean and ruthless for so long now, the last writers turned him into a jerk and villian. even mab brought him down to the docks where he met the nun or had him escape to paris devestated after sabrina s death when ashley rescued him. victor has a soft side and it would be awesome to see the whole town turn on him and him have to start over!!! …. however that would take a real deep headwriter to spin that out like the legend bill bell or kay alden! … pratt is all plot with no layers! … we could see ashley and sharon visit him and forgive him because those were two characters he deeply respected and cared for and they brought a more humaine side to victor come out!

It is incredibly unsatisfying to have invested in this storyline for no payoff in the end. Victor must pay.
I agree with y’all. It was most unsatisfying to have not only Victor not pay for his truly evil and dastardly deeds, we don’t even get to see other characters learn about them! The only thing which was keeping some of us holding onto that dreadful Marco/Jack Doppelganger story line, was the prospect up Victor receiving his comeuppance. I really wanted Victoria to discover what her father had been doing behind the scenes too.
There was no pay off and it looks like there will not be one coming.
Speaking of Victoria, the Ice Princess needs a new romance which will jolt her out of her zombie-like state. I say hire Michael Easton and cast him as a detective for the Genoa City Police Department. Paul could use a new buddy and side kick and no one plays this part better than Michael. Then romantically pair him up with Victoria which would also put him a in position of going toe to toe with Victor.

@Harry……You have an EXCELLENT IDEA. I for one am so tired of recasts. This Billy is better than the first recast…but…absolutely no one will ever be able to replace Billy Miller! The idea of Michael Easton coming in as a new detective for the GC police dept. is inspired. As for as pairing him with Victoria, I would not do that to my worst enemy. She has never been my favorite character on the show…but now, I absolutely DETEST her and wish someone would b*itch slap her into next week. I really do like the idea of Michael Easton joining the show. Seems like that’s all GH and Y&R do anymore is to exchange actors.
Janie, I do not disagree, however, think how hot Amelia and Michael would look together. They have the same coloring, the same cobalt blue eyes–they go together.

What drives me crazy is that GH gets taken to task so much, but YR is complete garbage for me, yet the ratings have been up. Are people truly loving this or is it a watch out of habit kind of thing. Ugh I have 2 months worth of eps on the dvr cause everytime I watch Im so disgusted I just stop. I think Im just gonna finally stop watching YR. Hate watching is just so not healthy.

Travis, simply put–Y&R at least finishes a story and the pacing holds steady. I lost interest in GH due to the fragmented, disjointed approach to story telling, the plot devices, the lack of character development and the terrible pacing.
Y&R has it’s problems for sure and is FAR from perfect but for me, it can still tell a decent story.
I am hoping GH will get better and if I hear that it does, like the Terminator says, I will be back.

And since I came back to fix my mistake, I must say Travis that if watching was purely about habit, I would still be watching GH. It took A LOT of garbage to break my thirty year plus habit.
Well to be honest, I havent been watching either. Yeah YR may finish a story, but the SL’s are awful. This past Victor SL was predictable and I feel like Pratt has turned him into a Stefano Dimera clone. I guess my point is I always expect Gold Star Storytelling from YR. And damn I feel like after Kay Alden and John F Smith were run out of town, this show has never been the same.
GH may have its ups and downs, but at least in my opinion the show is still rooted in its wheel house. I tow the line on Camp, but at least I know that its a part of the shows DNA from the 80’s. For me YR just has people with Character names I know, but thats not the YR I know. Hmmm kinda ironic, Ive actually been watching full eps of Days again vs not watching BOTH YR & GH.
And we all have diff opinons on what’s decent and for me thats def not the YR right now.

DAYS is super, right now, 4ever. You’re right…I’ve been scorched a few times, these past few weeks…LOL. Now that Bo is in the picture, the show will get even hotter as it picks us steam. I am anticipating seeing Hope, Aidan and Bo in a scene…there will be a charged silence that speaks volumes; or, an all-out-old-fashioned-fight! Can’t wait!

The-watch-out-of-habit certainly plays into it, Travis. It’s hard to let go. I prefer GH to Y&R , which has been my fave for years. I just do not buy into that bunch of caca anymore. But, I will not stop watching. It’s bad enough having list all the other soaps….better this caca than nothing at all…LOL.
I’m not really sure, but Y&R is the only soap on at 11:00 in my market. It has no competition and never has. Plus, it’s still early enough for people with evening shifts to watch before work whereas later shows don’t offer that. I’ve always wondered if this contributes to why their numbers are so much higher. It’s a great soap, for sure, but the numbers have long baffled me.

I wanted to let you know that after taking three weeks off I watched GH today and it was quite good! Billy Miller came alive as Jason today after he shot the three henchmen dead in order to save Sonny and TJ’s life. That look in his eye after he shot the men demonstrated that Jake is morphing into Stone Cold.
I loved it.
Overall the show was good and guess what? There was no Ava, Nina, Franco, Madeline, etc. The only bad thing was Carly’s flip hair style which was reminiscent of Tammy Wynette famous for singing “Stand By Your Man.” Perhaps that was by design. And of course Sparkle Pony trotted in wearing a garish dress with too much fru fru and bows. I think there were ribbons in her mane too.
I have decided that whenever a scene is lacking that they should have the actor or actress hold Baby Avery. That baby is so endearing, charming and adorable one finds oneself just smiling at her while not paying attention to the dialogue. I swear, if they put Baby Avery in every GH scene ratings will go through the rood! That baby is two legged antidepressant, and I am not even a baby person.
I guess I need to Binge watch this weekend. I dont mind Franco as much because of RH, BUT my biggest issue is that since being revealed that he’s Scott’s son they only have a relationship when it only suits the SL. He has an entire family, unless TPTB think Im gonna forget the Baldwins. There is so much rich history to draw from and the chance to truly tell a father/son story. But they keep ignoring 2 gifted actors that could truly bring amazing performances for rushed relationships.
Im not sure why I even keep hoping for a chance for Kin and Roger to truly shine together. This show has seemed to wipe out any family existence Pre-JFP. I mean has Scott even told Franco he has grandparents. I truly hate when soaps just “Forget” families.
My biggest gripe with every Soap is there is no longer a true sense of family and friends. They all just seem to be a bunch of people that just happen to live in the same town that run into each other when its SL dictated. Damn on Bold, characters meet, a month later are madly in love, and 2 months later they are engaged and at the alter. I know soaps needed to pick up the pace, but damn there are no beats played anymore, no struggle, no mountains to overcome.
LMAO, the Jason reveal seems to be the only Long Form Story taking place out of all the soaps. I guess I need to stop holding on to my Soap memories growing up with my Grams as a child and just embrace the Plot driven method of today’s soaps. If not, Im gonna always be annoyed.

It’s funny, the last time I saw “Gary” post the same exact thing on this site, he also heard it on the radio “today” that time also. This rumor has been making the rounds for a few months now, it’s already been debunked by those in the know. ABC isn’t happy with GH, that’s a fact. Which is why changes were made. But there was no such deadline or ultimatum put on the show. Stop spreading false rumors.
You seem like an all-knowing inside expert on GH’s situation. How do YOU know this info for sure? Just because someone on the outside has a blunt opinion (or a fact that they found out somewhere, not sure which applies here) that you don’t want to hear, that doesn’t give you the right to be rude.

Aria, as a loyal OLTL fan with many OLTL friends who are also fans, I can assure you that I most definitely do not harbor any fantasies about GH being canceled. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Because I know, just as any OLTL or AMC fan knows, that Disney wants to get out of the soap business. This was leaked out just about the time OLTL and AMC were canceled. But then The Revolution and Katie Couric (which basically replaced the aforementioned soaps) failed miserably and were canceled.
Most of us OLTL fans do not want GH to be canceled in favor of a OLTL rebirth. But we do harbor a fantasy that Disney/ABC executive suits will recognize the fact that silly talk shows can not replace our stories, our soaps.
Even those of us who bitch about GH are really rooting for its survival.

Yes, it’s a baby step but quite frankly, those ratings for GH are still pretty bad. The numbers are not going to sharply fall EVERY SINGLE week, and it’s still down 200K viewers from last year. As the expression goes, a broken clock will still be right twice a day.
The show is probably going to need at least as many weeks on the plus side to negate however many weeks it’s been reaching all-time lows.

Seriously, it’s fine to try and be positive about GH. It’s appropriate to say that at least the bleeding stopped for a week and there was a slight increase in viewership.
But using the stat that it was the only soap to increase is so misleading and inappropriate. It is technically true for the week but does not convey the real story.
The changes in the week to the negative for the other soaps was nominal as was GH’s increases. But GH is the show that was completely in the tank and is still #4 in the demo.
The reality is GH is down over 200,000 from the same week last year in total viewers and 18-49.
Total viewers from last year, Y&R Up 244,000. B&B Up 96,000. Days Up 121,000, GH Down 244,000.
18-49, Y&R down 21,000, B&B down 42,000, Days down 16,000, GH down 208,000.
So, be positive that the bleeding at GH stopped. Be positive there was a slight increase. But the comparison to the other soaps is misleading and not a credible example.
Also, GH will go up in September. It is bound to, TV viewership in general increases in the fall. The key is how much it goes up and how it will do compared to the previous year.

The writing is exciting! The returns should draw viewers back, but the writing will keep them tuning in. I’ve been a DAYS fan for over 30 years and I know it’s exciting!!!!!

I love Days, Ces. However, I really do understand exactly what you imply about Josh/Roman/Chris K. I can barely ken what words he puts together. His diction was always bad, now, with age, it has become indecipherable. His speech is worse than Sonny Corinthos’.
Then, there’s John Black….his face goes through indescribable amounts of expressions, all at the same time….so hard to take him seriously…..and, the love-fest between him and Marlena; acting like young lovers, is really getting to me. How many times have they been down this road? Then, OMG!, there’s that stupid non-descript-colored rose ( not you, sweet, Rose) that keeps making an appearance between them. What’s up with that rose…..is it supposed to symbolize something?
I love Bo coming back, though….and, Patch….they are exciting men/actors.
I hope that once this momentous second/third coming’s excitement wears down a bit, Theresa’s venture into the business world comes to fruition, or maybe sooner. I love her and perhaps her life will have true meaning….then, as a plus, gets Brady out of her mind and heart and concentrates on a new love. A man equal to her sensibilities; a man who understands the real Theresa and what makes her tick; a man who loves her as she is….no frills or fru-frus. A man who accepts her flaws ( the flaws must be harmless, though….lol) with the good. Yes, I know, I am dreaming a fairytale. Well, it’s easy for me….I have THAT man!

What I saw recently were a bunch of newbies? Theresa, Ben, DULL Abigail (always was an annoying character), Kayla screaming at bland Joey, annoying Nicole with her little Dutch Boy haircut and Hope in bed with some straight collar guy that looked boring too.
As much as I LOVE STephen Nichols and Peter Reckell — don’t think those two alone can make me keep tuning it. Even John & Doc who I used to LOVE, nauseated me the other day. That’s no good 🙁

They have dropped In all the key demos, They were gaining there for the longest time but now in the past few weeks or so they have started to go down ever so slightly. This IMO is the biggest drop the show has had since Pratt started, he doesn’t have anymore tricks the show is unwatchable

I think some of the views are tuning back in, because they know that the material from the new Head Writers is about to air!
I don’t know if is this month or next month when Shelly Altman & Jean Passanante fully take over as Head Writers, but there’s been a change in the tone of the writing with Jean Passanante back on staff.
The ratings are a good start, but GH still has a long way to go!

Let’s wait and see what the numbers are for this week’s worth of Corinthos centric episodes. Watching Sonny and Carly moon over each other, Michael move towards forgiveness of the man who killed his father, and Morgan be Morgan had me switch over and check out the action on DOOL for the first time in a decade.
I think GH dumping Ron Carlivati will prove to be the best thing that has happened to DAYS in a long time…
GH’s new HWs definitely have their work cut out for them and, yes, I do think DOOL will slip past GH in the ratings. I’m thinking about checking it out myself.
GH is paying a very steep price for a very long stretch of neglecting character development and story movement. I’ve been a life long daily GH watcher but I’ve been finding myself drifting away missing more and more episodes lately and not really caring because there’s just nothing going on and no characters to care about.
I understand it’s going to take time to turn that huge ship around and I can see the quick patches they’re trying to make but…how is anyone supposed to care about Silas’s murder when we were never given a story that made us care about Silas? Ditto Morgan being instantly bi-polar.
Interesting that today’s episode actually did pay some attention to family ties and connections. I thought is was a glaring writing misstep that characters like Bobbie, Carly Laura and Lulu were so absent from the big Fluke story to the point that
that I’d actually forgotten that Carly was Bobbie’s daughter.
I think one of the reasons why GH has tanked so much is they focused on that Fluke storyline forever. When it finally concluded nobody even really cared they just wanted it over.
Well, your right but Tony was sick and that stretched it too long AND they botched Tony’s exit! Now, what the hell is their excuse on dragging out Jake’s identity!
GH had almost no where to go BUT up. Any lower and they’d be off the air.
If the new writers can bring new stories, not centering on the mob, there is hope.
New writing to focus on Sonny and family..So I doubt the mob will be over.
I understand it is a show about a hospital but the mob has been in play since 1981 so its something that probably will never change. I dont mind the mob. Its brought some exciting moments BUT they should refocus their writing back to the hospital.

But– his writing of the black & white 52nd was phenomenal and one of the best soap stories ever via the reporting critics.

Su…I sure didn’t like what Ron did with Sonny and GH story Friday when Sonny was shot and possibly killed before the wedding. Particularly brutal and unnecessary as one of his goodbye stories. Especially after the Fluke thing.
SU, I admire your loyalty to Ron and GH. I think Ron is creative and innovative. But, characters were created that a lot of people didn’t cared about and stories dragged for quite some time. Was he sacrificed by ABC? Hell yeah! GH has great talent and I will think Frank Valentini will do his best to turn the show around. It is the last remaining soap for ABC and I would like to see it succeed. The same goes for Days of Our Lives. I hope Ron is given the opportunity to write for nighttime television, because I think he will truly excel there. By the way, I am a big fan of Michelle Stafford (love her!). I hope she is given the material to prove what a great actress she is. Love Gina Tognoni and she is making Phyllis her own on Y&R, but Michelle was the bomb!

I thinkt people should tune in, turn on, record or just have GH on as background noise even if they don’t currently enjoy the show. Personally, I still like it and would hate for it to be wiped out forever. We know from experience once a soap is gone we can rant, rave, write, call….not going to matter. I’m glad the numbers are up but they’ve gotta keep moving in that direction if we want to argue and rip each other apart for our different opinions for years to come.

I totally agree also!! If I have to leave the house during GH I leave it on the TV and then watch it later on demand or computer. I do not want to see it get cancelled….it is my favorite soap and always will be!!
Honestly, the headline here is laughable. GH is still in 3rd or 4th place in all key demo categories. That’s hardly “going on an upswing”. Just because for once it actually did not set yet another new all-time low mark is hardly a reason to celebrate. Just sayin’.
GH will not recover, Abc will make a decision and cancel the soap.
All with Carlivati’s stories and writing. I have long maintained the real reason for the ratings drop were the drawn out (due to Geary’s own sick leave) and very dark (Geary’s preference) Fluke resolution and the shoehorned 10-week Luke goodbye story. They were hard to watch.
But for 2 years prior RC delivered steady ratings gains and then once Luke was gone, the ratings started up again under RC’s writing. ABC needed to give RC a partner to ground his flights of fancy and keep him in check, but with OLTL and GH’s steady rises under him, and only a few temporary dips, I genuinely believe ABC scapegoated him out of panic and made a mistake throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
Tend to agree with you about the decline being the long, draw out, dark Tony/Fluke/Luke combo, and for the possibility of RC being ABC’s scapegoat.
But as for the steady rating gains 2 years prior you mentioned, RC pulled viewers in with shiny new beads… new A+ actors who ended up being caricatures of themselves, except maybe Billy. Actors who then didn’t have strong stories written for them that made any sense with GH. Then there were the stories that seemed to be pulled from the sky and seemed to go nowhere anyone cared about. At least they are trying to wrap up some of the orphan stories before the new/old writing team starts. And many viewers we not happy how they ended Silas, I have to think especially the OLTL new viewers to GH.

Tony ha one foot out the door, he was done ready to go.
Frank did not want to lose him.
Frank called Luke into his office and told him of a great story for him, he could play the dark character he always wanted and Frank laid out the Fluke story to Tony and Tony luved it and stayed on with GH to play it.
If not for offering him Fluke dark story Tony would have been gone, and none of this would have happened (keeping the story alive for 6 months/half the year waiting on Tony’s return.
It was not total Ron’s fault, nope ..
other forces were at work giving Tony a grad exit.
Anyways, that all has ended and RC has been giving great characters and their stories since Luke’s exit.
Jean and Shelly can not top Ron’s writing this past month.

I don’t watch GH – never have. No disrespect to the show, it is just one soap that I never bothered to watch. I didn’t even watch when Luke married Laura! Of course I saw clips and photos of that episode, but since I was not a GH viewer I was not excited about that wedding.
However, my paternal grandmother watched GH. (In fact, my earliest memories of soaps is my grandmother watching GH and ATWT!) I used to hear her talk about a character named Jesse! I found out later by reading who “Jesse” was. So that is my history with GH.
I wish the show well. Greg Vaughn, who I e enjoy as Eric on Days, is a GH alum. So for Greg and my late paternal grandmother, I am glad for the GH boost.
Sweet. Greg was a recast of Luke and Laura’s son Lucky and he did a great job on GH and DAYS is lucky to have him on their show.
I think the return of the original Sloane is helping the upswing… I’m one of those soap watchers who left GH a while back – and who tuned in from time to time just to see if it had gotten better (didn’t like the story lines/writing). When they introduced the Sloane character though, that got my attention, because the actor, Robb Derringer, who originated the role brought a style I liked. He had subtlety and class – and when he played his scenes, esp. with Anna, you could see there was “life behind the eyes,” meaning a well-crafted character who wasn’t just spitting out lines that were handed to him. I like excellence. And I see that with Finola Hughes too. So, when those two acted together, it was like magic to watch. When Derringer was let go and when the story lines seemed to go in such strange directions – so much so that I felt bad for the actors, who were also given lines that didn’t even sound like their already establish characters – I said good-bye for a while too. But when I heard that they brought back the first Sloane in addition to new writers, I started watching again (this past week). I’m really looking forward to seeing where the two new head writers take GH. But I have to admit that the reason I tuned in again now was to see the return of Robb Derringer as Sloane. And he didn’t disappoint. His returning scenes with Finola/Anna were amazing. Their chemistry was off the charts and, as I mentioned before, I love the in-depth work they both bring to their roles. It’s like a breath of fresh air for this old soap, and I hope the rumor being spread about Sloane’s short run on this show is false. If it’s true, what a stupid move. So much potential there in story material… They both have that classic Hollywood romantic persona…and just the right amount of strength and sensitivity. (I used to see some of the same qualities in the pairing of Elizabeth and the original Lucky, and wish that there were a way to make that happen again too, although that was a different type of chemistry, but just as beautiful.) If that rumor turns out to be true though, I hope that it turns out to be one of those only-in-soaps moments, where nothing is really as it seems… Please new writers, if you’re reading this, please keep Sloane. Derringer plays him perfectly and is the epitome of the perfect leading-man type, whose story we want to follow. And, hey, if you keep him and the fan base he’s created…well, then there’s a portion of your GH audience that is bound to stay tuned for each new episode.

Thank you, Su! Yep, I realized that one day last week when his name came up on the screen. I wonder why last week was so good then, and other big portions (like the horrid storyline about Luke, skeleton, etc.) and poor writing crept in over the last few months? But, again, it was Sloane that drew me back in to watch really. And, yep, that was an RC creation. I just do hope very much that the new writers keep him. And even if that character “dies,” well…it’s a soap and I have hope for a quick resurrection! 😉 (The one thing that I detested though last week was the flashback of Silas being stabbed. That was so disconcerting and unnecessary. But…in the world of soaps…she was remembering back…and hopefully her memory was faulty… Still, I don’t like that kind of gruesome stuff. If it keeps up, I won’t be back. I don’t want those images stuck in my head; we get that crap on primetime. So sick of it. I really want these writers to make GH top-notch again. Okay. That’s it for now. lol… 🙂
G.h story lines were so jamed up some of them still have no ending.. As for Y&R the story lines are the same .
Too many actors on the show.
Over the years of watching many a soap I can honestly say I have forgotten more stories than I remember. I haven’t enjoyed everything I have seen on the screen nor liked every character, but I do know this. Daytime drama has been one of the best storytelling genre out there. Even prime time soaps have all limited their seasons to 10 shows a year because they know they cannot maintain quality and ideas over a longer period of time, but daytime drama has done it for years. The fact very few shows reach 10 seasons let alone the forty plus years the remaining soaps have except for BB says something about how truly remarkable and unique this form of storytelling has been.
I don’t care what state any show is in right now, for I have seen worse, and better, but the climate is different in this world, so I don’t know whether networks will give any daytime drama the chance to naturally ride the tide back to their upswing– but regardless, of what might be, I just what to give a profound thank you to all the hard working men and women of daytime dramas, who are and who have put in an effort to entertain me for these last forty some years I have been a daytime soap fan.

I have to say that I have enjoyed the Morgan/Bi Polar storyline…..Bryan Craig’s performance this week was so honest and so real…I actually cried when he stated that “maybe he was just a loser”….his acting has been awesome…..and Sonny telling him that he would be there for him whether he took his medication or not was heartbreaking as well….the scenes with these two was really great and touching to watch….however, lol, DAYS is literally on FIRE with the new writing team of Josh and Dena….the storys are coming together and making sense…the scenes are longer….I’m actually rooting for Teresa to one up Nicole and take control of Basic Black…the scenes with Maggie and Teresa talking about Teresa’s passion for drawing/designing was right on….I actually felt something for Teresa and loved her enthusiasm for designing…the wedding vows between Doc and John were just as awesome….shed a couple tears….I love Joey’s attitude with the headmaster and Kayla…..look forward to the return of Bo….Patch and Victor working together….just a feeling DAYS will overtake GH….hopefully the two shows can somehow pass Y&R and B&B in the ratings….not sure how those two soaps have remained #1 and #2 all these years…repeat love triangles, doppelgangers….Victor Newman getting away with everything…the Forresters never having to pay for any of their crimes…..repeat repeat repeat same story different characters….
I agree. I also think Bryan Craig is doing a great job!! Loved he scenes with him and Maurice; they have excellent father/son chemistry.
I quite enjoyed Friday’s episode minus Valerie/Lulu’s stupid hug. If only Lulu knew that she shagged her hubby!

Really glad to see GH stats rising. Albeit them being down from last year. I am causally optimistic that the new HW’s will turn the show around for the good as this is the only soap me and my family watch these days. I dont believe my Mom has missed a show in over 30 year’s. I use to watch Days back during the Bo and Carly. And Bo and Billy but i stopped watching around the time Hope came back and GH has been my daytime soap since. With the exception of my dark years with how they trashed Elizabeth and “Killing” baby Jake.
Its hard to go to any site these days to express yourself completely, except for MF site so for this Sir, this fan thanks you. FB GH site is a Cluster F@#! of Jason w/sam fans. Twitter is almost as bad and worse in most cases with certain stans harassing others b/c they see things differently.
As for the show itself I’m hoping for a more balanced show with all keys player’s guiding their own s/l while interacting with every character across the canvas in some way. For my own personal wishes, Jason in all his personas forgive Elizabeth. I have been thinking of different scenarios and I’ve only come up with Elizabeth hitting her head and forgetting that she was ever “gifted” with this secret turned Lie. Luckily the HW’s are more creative as I only see my girl Broken. I hate seeing her like that. As i said before i understood why she did it initially but she has carried the lie to long now. She is almost unrecognizable. They only give us fleeting glimpses of the Elizabeth we fell in love with. I know charcters evolve but not in the way she has been written when they (as i believe) wanted to destory the Elizabeth Webber character.
Also I am hoping that Jason is going to be very busy with the chaos that is his life to do a return as Sonny beck and call, man of all affairs. There is so much speculation that Jason is running to Sonny rescue all over again. The S/M sites are all Jason is about to save Sonny and remember everything. Please don’t have Jason to miraculously save the day. Running into danger without the benefit of a gun all to throw the characters back together. I love Sonny and i dont mind the mob as long as its a one man show. I’m hoping the Sonny doesnt go back to needing Jason to fix all of the Crap that his choices made for him and his family.
I read the spoiler and I think Jake/Jason is going to save the day.
Please make that story end already!! Everyone in town knows Jake is Jason except those that matter! Laura should have never left town with that secret.
Not surprised. But for once, I’d really love for Sonny to save his own skin. He is this larger then life character but requires Jason to save him? I want Jason and Sonny as seperate entities guiding their own s/l. Best friends yes, business partners, maybe but not with Jason at his beck and call. Jason has enough to deal with once he is actually Jason. I honestly don’t like when the s/l are forced. But I’m in total agreement that the reveal can’t happen soon enough. I hate that it went on this long.
I SO agree with you! I was hoping that Sonny would actually be his own damn hero for once and shoot that guy; not get shot himself and needing help. Doh..
This Jake stuff needs to end and Liz needs to get what is coming to her. In fact, I want Jake/Jason to despise her for it!
Also all the hypocrites rooting for Jason to swoop in and save Sonny so that Jason can remember who he is and go running back to Sam . Sonny killed what was Monica’s last surviving son/child. Jason and Sonny should have some major issues to overcome as well . Elizabeth is lying (her behind off
Looks as if part of my comments was cut off… But to be brief i want the story line to end. I want this to go the ground and get the Jason and Sam relationship cleared up once and for all. I want Jason and Elizabeth to be a destiny couple. But they both have so many knots to unravel separately and some joint issues to overcome then i want them both to EARN one another. As i see it they are both to blame for the mess
