There is no doubt about now, General Hospital is ascending up the ratings ladder and for the ratings period of November 5th -9th, GH scored a phenomenal 2,824,000 total viewers!  That again is a new ratings record for the Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati super team that is bringing the lone ABC soap into prominence once again!

With all the back from the dead returns, the show is garnering plenty of steam, and this is only the tip of the iceberg!  It will be interesting to see next week’s ratings which had the Faison reveal as part of the air dates.

In addition, General Hospital was number one in women 18-34 ahead of The Young and the Restless with its largest ratings edge in nearly 4 and half years in that demo!  The series was up 21% compared to the same week last year in Total Viewers, 54% in Women 18-34, and 23% in Women 18-49.

Meanwhile, The Young and the Restless held its overall number one spot with 4,372,000 followed by The Bold and the Beautiful at 3,185,000.  B&B’s ratings next week will be interesting to see as well with the heartbreaking Stephanie Forrester Goodbye Party episodes as part of the ratings equation.   Days of our Lives, while in fourth place, also seemed to gain some steam scoring 2,553,000 in total viewers.    You can view the entire  ratings  picture via Soap Opera Network here.

Ok soapers, time for you to be our Soap Opera Programming Executive Armchair Quarterback.  What is working on your favorite soaps?  Who do you want to see have more airtime?  What show do you think needs the most improvement?  What do you think of GH’s growing numbers, impressed?  Weigh-in!

Go GH!!! Best show on ABC.

yep!

ye ah but need to bring jason and robin back , get rid of aj and duke

love maurice benard the reason i still watch but miss jason everyday show
not the same without him

if ratings want to climb higher bring jason back to end the botched up storyling
they left us with, and bring robin back for emma and patrick

I have never been an ABC soap follower, but been hearing so much about how good GH is that I have been tuning in just to see and although I don’t know who any body is and how they are related I didn’t hate it.

On Y&R although not in the week mentioned I was so happy Michael finally dropped all charges against Paul. The kidnapping of Victoria was an unexpected twist, which I liked, but Jack taking pain medication after his surgery, I can see the addiction story line coming a mile away. I’m not sure what is happening with Kevin and I don’t know if I like his new snarly attitude, but by the sounds of it, it looks like he is heading for life of crime.

Days is getting so much better and interesting since they rediscovered the concept of actually having some kind of plot. Love Eric being back– the look on Nicole’s face when she realized he was a priest was priceless. The poor girl can’t catch a break.

On B&B if Brooke ends up sleeping with Bill that will be the end for me. She slept with her father-in-law, son-in-law, her daughter’s boyfriend and Thorn her brother in law. If she sleeps with her sister’s husband that character will be beyond redemption. The only thing that might save her is if Brad Bell finally pens that Brooke is a sex addict and helps her get therapy for it.

I think Days needs some serious help. I AM glad to see Eileen Davidson back stirring up some trouble, but this Nicole storyline went on forever. Also, Days is too predictable with Gabby being pregnant. Just seems like everyone is wandering around Salem with no point — also, enough with the flashbacks. They are bad enough when they show a flashback from a week ago but do we seriously need a flashback within the same show???
I’ve been a GH & DAYS fan since late 70’s (for GH) and 80’s for Days and GH is by far way better lately.

The reason I thought Days was improving was because I use to literally fall asleep within ten minutes of the show but lately I have managed to stay awake for the whole hour. And you’re right everyone knew Will would knock up Gabi the minute she slept with him- not sure if they are going to go down the abortion story line route or the unwed mother route- but at least it is a storyline thats progress right? As for the flashbacks of things that just happened in the show, you mean they weren’t doing it for me, just in case I nodded off and woke up in time to see what I just missed. I’m crushed lol

haha on the flashbacks! 🙂 I guess with the Gabi being pregnant storyline we’ll get to see more of Chandler, Freddie and Blake. Wish Days would take a cue from GH and get back to being exciting because seeing Nicole cry and whine day in and day out is a real drag!

I hope all remaining soaps do well.We do not want to loose anymore.I would be tickled all have good ratings.

Hi Mary- it’s Mary- the four remaining soaps were the four highest ranking ones for years, but over time they all have been losing numbers. Personally I think the ratings system is what needs to change not the soaps. It was conceived in the 50’s when there was only three networks, no cable, or internet or smartphones. It is out of date and an extremely unfair way to measure the true popularity of any one show. Television is evolving so perhaps one day the networks as we now it will be gone and consumers will simply be able to watch and pay for the shows they want to watch including the soaps.

Mary SF agree totally. We know millions more watch soaps but Neilsen does control it all with less then 25,000 people making our decisions.I don;t understand why the networks don’t get fed up with it.It hurts them to.They may have a hit and never know it because of Neilsen.seen to many good shows day and night get cncelled over /neilsen,

It’s great, but we’re not out of the woods yet.

I agree. Not sure when or if I’ll ever feel confident that my beloved show will ever be safe but I am finally excited to watch again. 8)

I am long time fan of both Y&R and GH..
I do not understand how the Y&R has such high rating..
GH is much better, and Y&R has been struggling to create any excitement and it simply does not have the zing it once did..
For Y&R to be near twice as high as GH in the rating it has to have something to with the Y&R (and BB) being shown internationally/in 32 countries..

This is just not right;
yr – 4,372,000
gh – 2,824,000

General Hospital has to compete with Days of Our Lives in some markets, so the numbers make sense.

Su,

Always remember that YR runs virtually unopposed at noon ET coming out of the monolith that is The Price is Right

You do make an interesting point. Y&R has no competition at the time it is aired.
Soaps should not be pitted against each other if they want to survive.
Instead they should compete against one of those nauseating reality shows.
Then maybe we could see different ratings.

Fanny,

You also make an interesting point, but I’m not sure how practical your solution is. Back in the 60’s, ABC attempted a three-episode a week version of Peyton Place-which led to primetime burnout. Unless you’re talking about moving a reality show to daytime-daytime is soaptime

i agree

Hooray for GH! I have always been a fan, but for the past few months, it has been so phenominal! Love all the returning characters, and we have the return of the Nurse’s Ball to look forward to! Bring back Genie Francis, and I would be totally happy.

I am so happy for GH…FV & RC are doing a great job….Enjoy seeing Robert Scorpio ..Love his Australian accent and his charming personality….I like to see more of Robin. And getting back together with Patrick & Emma..Kate/Connie is getting old…Gh stories got my interest each day.. Faison will get caught soon!!!!! Again time for
Robin to come home…Robert will find out Faison has Robin & bring her home to Anna ,
Patrick & Emma.. A happy reunion….Haven’t seen much of Jophn McBain lately…GH is
soooooooooo GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we need a longer GH show. How come we havent heard of Edwards passing yet?

John/Edward’s death will be addressed this week, I believe. As for the rest of GH-fantastic work. All the haters just need to stop…

also yes we miss Jason but keep McBain…

totally agree jason cannot be replaced aj needs to go

love john mcbain on oltl and now gh

yeah and sonny of course

All old favorites returning are great, they should try and see if ANY of them would stay for 3 months, Id also like to see a contest where a fan has an idea and the writers using it, should the idea not work scrap it within a good time frame, id like to see more relationship stories between charcters like Dante & Lulu, maybe have a story where Anna Devane (GH) figures out Faison has Robin and searches for her and when she does find Robin have Robin come back a different person, one who is more cynical (at least for a while) those are my ideas, so have at it Mr Carlivatiron 🙂

Ah yes, try as they might, the rest of the soaps still trail Y&R by a HUGE margin. Why do you ask? Because Y&R is the template that all of the others aspire to be. NUMBER ONE….. OH YEAH!!!

Been watching GH for going on 18 years now, and it’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed it this much. There have been a lot of good storylines over the years, and a lot of cool moments, but I can’t remember when it’s been this consistently good, week after week, at least since I’ve been watching.

They’ve brought back beloved fan favorite characters like Anna, Robert, Duke, Felicia, Sean Kanan as AJ, and soon Lucy Coe, among others, villains that we love to hate, whether it’s Faison, Jerry Jacks, Helena Cassadine, Heather Webber, and they’re bringing back The Nurse’s Ball, who doesn’t love that? The storylines move at a quicker pace, the scenes move quicker.

Sure, there are storylines and characters that aren’t doing much for me, like the new doctor Britt, who they seem insistent on shoving down our throats. But by and large, the show is just plain on fire right now, and I hope they can continue the hot streak into 2013 and beyond!

what did Heather do to Edwards will?

I watch all of them except for Days of Our Lives and, I am a few weeks behind on GH and B&B because I went on vacation. I caught up with Y&R this week.

Y&R: I was hoping we could discuss what is going on with this one. I would really like to see a report card on the new writing/producing. Sorry in advance for the lack of paragraphs below, but I don’t want to take up so much space. 🙂

I love that Avery finally has her own place and I can see all of Jill Farren Phelps’ touches (especially the green!). I like that there is more romance. I like that Nikki and Victor are on, but not dominating and that they are getting along. I like that Chelsea is evolving. I wonder if we will see her crazy like on AMC. I think I noticed Phyllis’ penthouse (the outside) was spruced up a bit). I liked the red chairs at Jack’s.

I don’t like Kevin being a brat again. The way he attacked Gloria, Jeffrey, and Michael was inexcusable. Instead of a life of crime, this kid needs a major change. They should focus on him being a stepfather to Delia or something. I’m sick of Sharon. I hope they fix her soon because I can’t feel sorry for her, I just can’t. I really don’t like that Billy’s past has gotten Victoria into trouble. It tells me they are getting ready to break them up. I had really wanted Victor and Billy to be on the same side, but it looks like that will never happen.

GH: Well I am still catching up, but from what I saw as of a few days after Halloween (and the spoilers I have read), I like all the veterans coming back. I like Todd and Carly. I like AJ being back and the storyline potential. I love that Sam has her baby back. I love all the spoilers I have read (and presumed) about Faison, Helena, Duke, Lucy Coe returning. It will be nice to have the Nurses Ball again. I will be sad for the upcoming episodes of Edward’s death because John Ingle was such an amazing man. 🙁

I’m getting tired of Connie/Kate. I enjoyed it at first, but now it has grown old.

Oh and I cannot wait to see Robert Scorpio on my screen again. I know he is there, but I have not caught up yet.

Welcome back. On Y&R I think it may be too soon to tell if the new regime is improving the show or just staying the course. From these posts some love the changes others are not too impressed. I personally like the new writing style because the characters seem more alive, there is more humor and personal touches in the dialogue now. Story line wise, I’m not too sure yet. It seems like there are playing it safe but it made for a seamless transition from old to new. I like Sharon finding out she is bi polar and that there is a reasonable explanation for her strange past behavior but I too think it is time she started to show some improvement and get her character back into the real world. Have you caught up on B&B? My kleenex box got quite the work out last week. I don’t know if I have the heart to actually watch the show where Stephanie passes away.

Thanks, Mary SF.

I forgot to add that on Y&R I like that Jessica Collins is getting to show her cooking expertise as she has a cooking blog and went to the Cordon Bleu school. I think JFP is really assessing the talents of the actors she has and working on that, especially if those talents might apply to younger viewers.

No, sadly I have not started B&B yet, but I have seen ALL the promos all week long and that alone makes me teary-eyed. I plan to finish GH first and then start with B&B. I saw the send-off they did and thought that was very sweet.

So happy that GH is getting better ratings. I hope they continue bringing back GH vets and writing them great stories. The last couple of weeks have been the best GH has been in years. 8)

They are delivering Prime Time caliber perfomances every day. Each daily GH episode is equivalent to an hour of nighttime drama. It moves really fast now. They are working their butts off to stay relevant and it’s working!

I agree 100% faster pace and more oldies it is a great show to watch..

I came to GH with Todd, Starr, Tea and John. One Life to Live will always be “my story”. Anything the keep those OLTL characters alive will have me and my family as viewers! Thank you

geez! what a new rigime, does….

what about Nicole… THE catalyst for Days simmering to the top… you have the Sammi (twins) and Eric’s dynamics…. and Nicole, reeling talent on DAYS…. she’s baren and lusty Eric is balancing his act, he’s loaded his bullets.., Nicole’s, recooping her emodiment… with all the nuances, and delivering, top notch, scores… it,s riveting, her commupance, new biginning…. Eric,s padded… Nicole, won’t falter, she’ll wait for what’s coming. In comes, Kristen…. digging at Brady, with his drug boy image… she’s pulling the trigger…. wasn’t it classic… when she’s with John and shoots at Brady… You’re “starting to bug, me”… LOL… John’s telling Brady, dial it down…. LOL… it’s kristens femme fe talle… Daddys’ out of town…

ie: Jennifer… fans are not liking.. Jenn not mourning, Jack. I agree…i’d have cried…. regime.. writing? Jenn, for the first time… since her return…. is her old self… that, horton spirit.. so, that in itself is reason for me to move on… although, i don’t think its that real with daniel… IMO… Jason Brooks and Jenn, fixed it… they realed IN.

grousing about Lucas… So much press about what it is.. and not playing out the part… lke i said… a shock to the system… and Lucas, nor “norming” that his kid is loving and being loved. it’s giving us story… since, the writers didn’t delve in to his and Sammi’s relationship… and sharing conflict… in so many forms…. which… really rings true… that it’s all the same crap… less trappings? although, i’ll bring to light.. one viewer of DAYS shared… gays are a small part of the population… We’re equal. it’s more… making aware the relativity of progression, standard… and stimuli

It’s nice, to make conversating, about Maggie… Mother Horton… she’s compassing her days… it’s a pleasure to see Maggie. It’s giving, that Victors’, tender…. Victors holdings… Maggies, Horton and Kiriakis spectrum, opening room for…

give DAYS Justin and Adrienne, more filler…. which they were at the forefront.

Love GH and always have… it is my soap! Love almost everything FV and RC have been doing except the Connie/Kate and Dr. Brit stories. Good writing and bringing back characters from the past with the great current cast is what is making the show!

I have started watching Y&R over the last few years to support the genre and saw it on and off again since the beginning. I think Y&R has been successful because it has kept so many core characters for years and you can come back and see people you know and quickly catch up. I also like the business aspects being more prevalent in Y&R.

Love having Robert back and hope he stays for a bit! Would love to see Laura come back especially for Christmas! Hope they have a very nice Christmas storyline this year! Still love the 2008 Spixie and Santa storyline as one of the best Christmas episodes of all!

I can’t stand the Dr. Brit character either. I can only hope that they keep her as raunchy as she is and not make her likable. We don’t need problems when Robin comes back.

I agree Connie/Kate has gotten old. It was fun when Kate was in charge and then Connie would come out and give that sneer, put on her red lipstick and you knew some fun was going to happen. Now she is just nasty. Losing Trey will ruin any future story and Kate and Sonny are not endgame, so I think it is time for the characters to go.

when are we going to start bringing GH to Toronto Canada? we always feel left out in the cold.

could you explain further on your comment please. I live in Winnipeg and get GH on CityTV. If you not getting it on Toronto, the full episodes are posted on youtube every day by 4pm

Here’s a link if you need….

https://www.youtube.com/user/simplygh?feature=results_main

I live in Montreal and we do not get CityTV in certain areas…
But I still can watch GH on ABC.

I WILL agree that plots and scenes move along much faster and bringing the old timers like Faison, Robert, Duke etc back well that is just what we loyal followers want. I have always wanted it back like it used to be when LUKE and LAURA were on together. They can just keep this show rolling because it is WORKING For us..YAY GH hope it get to be number one in all markets and stays there.. Adding some more favs from OLTL will only HELP the show be stronger..Sooo many viewers of OLTL MISS their show..keep bringing them and we will keep watching.

Congrats to GH!!!

Now you can give Sammatha Mcall a story!!!

NOTE TO RC AND FV

Do not wear Kelly Monaco out on DWTS!!!

We know she is doing excellent on DWTS!!!

And she winning so far, but I see a backlash if she win, the way I see if she win

Her weight may go down and and yall may get Ms.Archer to come over her to be

With Mr.Easton, it may sound silly but I see alot of SOAP SITES Talking about Kelly

Being on DWTS and PLEASE VOTE!!!

Listen I want Kelly to do her best and I wouldn’t mind if she win again!

But not sake of her loosi ng her regular job atGH!!!

THEY GOT RID OF JASON AREVTHEY USING DWTS TO GET RID OF SAM!!!
RCAND FV GOT RID OF ALL THE THIN WOMEN ON OLTL

I KNOW I AM REACHING!!!

BUT I WANT KELLY M ON GH

IF SHE WINS THEN GREAT
IF SHE LOSE SHE COME BACK TO GH AND BE WITH ME,SK,OR HER DANCE PARTNER!!

DONT PLAY WITH KELLY HEAD!!!

RVANDFV ARE DOING A GREAT JOB!

Where does this come from? Kelly Monaco’s job is not in jeopardy! Steve Burton chose to leave GH, he was not let go. DWTS has nothing to do with Kelly Monaco’s status…

omg, what the hell are u smoking!

I’M not smoking anything!!

What I was trying to say that, I want Kelly in good health physically and mentally….that’s all !!!! I am a fan of her’s and she is doing a fabo! job
on GH and DWTS….and wish her well on DWTS!!!

I Know RC AND FV have a great friendship with Melissa Archer……and
I pray that she has better scripts for her and Michael Easton, when
she finish with DWTS!!!

I would love to see:

Sam friendship with Maxie , we havent seen that all year!!
Sam glam it up!!!…she’s pettite brunette, she’s goregous

and most of all, I would like to see John Mcbain and Sam Mcall in an
adult relationship!

and I would like Liam and Daniel (step-brothers)…

can you imagine if they got maaried!!!………………………………….
just when JASON COMES BACK!!!

The show has been awesome the last few weeks! The only thing I would recommend is less of Kelly Sullivan. Her characters grate on my every last nerve.

agree too much of connie/kate but do love sonny and think fv and rc need
to bring brenda back for sonny since all the oldies are coming back

sonny and brenda had best love story on gh like luke and laura

I love GH now because of the vets coming back and less OLTL characters.Hopefully they will keep up the good work.Love Anna,Robert,Felicia,Mac,Tracy,Duke,Robert,Fiason,Monica,AJ,Lulu & Maxi all being front & center! Now all that is missing is FRISCO! Bring back Jack Wagner ASAP and the show will be perfect.

YES! We want Frisco, as a WSB spy, he could be the one finding RealDuke and bringing both Duke and Robin home. And he could rebuild his relationship with Maxie and deal with Felicia.

This is incredible! I’m so happy that not only are Frank and Ron making GH an amazing soap in terms of storylines, characters, history, romance, etc., but it’s reflecting in the ratings too! Go General Hospital!

I ‘ve been watch good old Robert Scorpio all time favorite character can flush all bad guys out of GH for good. Tristian Rogers just came in Nov. 15 and 16.
this week, it will short week for Thanksgiving and next week, get back into action soon enough. I better my kleenex ready,b/c this week, other death of Quartermaine and this time for real life and death of John Ingle.. 🙁

I am still waiting for GH to give Elizabeth a story …even if it does not involve a new love interest. Come on GH writers

With us finding out that Sabrina is Juan’s cousin (Becky’s real-life husband), maybe the name-dropping of Juan is to suggest that he is returning. I wonder what the two of them would have as far as chemistry onscreen.

In any event, I have heard that Elizabeth is supposed to get involved with a new cop at the station and then there is a rumor that she mixes it up with AJ. I guess we will have to wait and see.

All I can say is GH in incredible! Loving all these character coming back . Everytime I see Patrick I hold my breath, can’t wait to see everyones faces when Robin comes back.I have been watching GH for over 35 years and I think next week will be the hardest because we didn’t just lose a character on the show we lost an amazing actor .

GH is incredible!!!! not in.LOL

love my gh as well!!!

Don’t watch GH so can’t comment on it!! Y&R and B&B have been getting good especially B&B with SF’s exit coming which I think will SKYHIGH the ratings!!

DAYS is good in a way!! Don’t know what to think of Kristen’s return though!

can any one tell me when Susan Flannery’s last airdate on B&B will be? I’m going to dvr.. her last couple weeks. thanks.

Everything on GH is working – even though a small piece of Llanview is there, I still miss the show I watched since grade school – OLTL! Still, without RH, KA and ME on GH (not on for the past few days), I find the Port Charles characters not as lovable as those in Llanview. But the storylines are great and love love love the show!

GH is awesome! Also- Days, my all time favorite soap, is better than ever! The storyline and the actors are great- there’s been more airtime for Deidre Hall-Yeh!!

gh is the best and watch days to help soaps on tv but deidre hall not a big fan

but know she has a huge fan following

but love drake hogestyn

I have been watching GH and it is good, but I still say the ratings are because we die hard soap fans have no choice. I never watched GH until all my other soaps were canceled. I miss watching a soap so I started to watch GH. Not to take anything from the writers or actors, but yes, all us soap fans who lost our shows are now watching GH.

gh is great have been watching for 22 yrs and agree we all need to watch the
soaps left on on air to keep them

Monday on Entertainment Tonight, the second set of nominations for the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards were announced which included the highly-coveted Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actress and Outstanding Daytime Talk Series.

ET followed suit after Extra announced the nominees, as previously reported, in the Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actor and Outstanding Daytime Talk Host.

Now, five leading ladies of the soaps are vying for the gold for Lead Actress and the category marked the first-ever nominations for CBS daytime’s Beyond the Gates when two actresses made the final cut. Only General Hospital is not represented among the actresses this year after Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) took home the trophy last year.
