RATINGS: ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Tops ‘The Young and the Restless’ in Key Demos
The recent Nielsen ratings report for the period of the week of April 6-10 reveal that The Bold and the Beautiful bested its sister soap, The Young and the Restless in the key women’s demo ratings of 18-49 and 25-54.
According to Soap Opera Network, in Women 19-49: B&B came in with a 0.27 ratings share up +0.01 from the previous week, while Y&R came in at number two with 0.22 ratings share and down 0.01 from the previous week. General Hospital came in third, while Beyond the Gates came in fourth.
For Women 25-54, B&B once again landed in the top spot above Y&R with a ratings share of 0.39, the same value as the previous week, while Y&R was slightly down at 0.38 with a net loss of -0.02. Beyond the Gates and General Hospital were closely tied for third.
In story, The Bold and the Beautiful played heavy that week, Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) coming to the realization that her husband Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) was having an affair with Taylor Hayes (Rebecca Budig) and she confronted both Deacon and Taylor separately, but ultimately, for the moment, does not retaliate against them.
Meanwhile over in Genoa City and The Young and the Restless, the top-rated soap opera heralded the returns of Shemar Moore (Malcolm) and Vivica A. Fox (Stephanie) as viewers learned that Malcolm is in dire need of a bone marrow transplant, which leads to the reveal that none other than Holden Novak (Nathan Owens) is Malcolm’s biological son with Stephanie, while Lily (Christel Khalil) is devastated to learn she can’t be a donor match for her biological father because of her previous bout with cancer.
So, now let us know via the comment section below; which soap opera right now has you most intrigued, invested and tuning in? Is your show, B&B, Y&R, GH or BTG? While Days of Our Lives is no longer part of the Nielsen ratings data, because it only streams on Peacock and not broadcast TV, do you prefer what’s going on in Salem? Share your picks and thoughts.
I think it’s time to move away from the Nielsen Ratings. A show like General Hospital which has better writing, acting and production values than both Y&R & B&B, is lower in the ratings? I fast forward through Y&R or don’t watch it at all for months. I only picked it up to see Shemar Moore and Vivica Foxx, and I’m sure they will be off the canvas soon.
I recently switched from Y&R to GH for the first time ever in my many years watching Y&R and i was astounded by the difference! Its comical how bad Y&R is in comparison. Its like watching a hollywood blockbuster movie compared to a lifetime movie . Im so glad i switched but still grieve how horrible Y&R is. Its like its strung together by the hare minimum just to avoid cancellation. Same sets all the time, empty, juvenile writing. Those poor actors are doing all the heavy lifting. They must be paying Josh Griffith with free food from craft services. No way he makes a paycheck for what he comes up with!
Hi Damien, I switched to GH a long time ago…I agree with you on all accounts. re: Y&R, it’s nothing like it use to be, extremely sad and CBS/Sony does not listen to us…I don’t see how Josh Griffith keeps his job…
Agreed, I did the same thing, and so happy I did. GH is far and away a much better written and produced soap than Y&R or B&B. The one day I checked on Y&R, every storyline was just so hokey….Phyllis’s takeover of Newman, Matt Clark’s idiotic story, even the return of Malcolm and Stephanie….nothing well written, hope Shemar picked up a big paycheck for this…nothing on Y&R makes any logical sense, and the dialog is even less believable than the stories. GH is far and away a better way to spend 45 minutes. Production values and writing that’s second to none in daytime.
I believe it’s good to do recaps, since not everyone watches every day. And some shows are very clever doing it. However, Y&R does recaps within the same episode!!! Act 1 dialogue is recapped in Act 4!!! It would be nice if they would realize this, and stop it NOW!
Lewis, I agree regarding GH…
Hopefully if it continues to top it in demos, which I do not know how, as both soaps are not good… perhaps CBS will step in and replace Josh Griffith at long last. I know they were going to last year but demos/ratings improved.
GH and Days are the only soaps I watch! GH definitely holds my interest more! Best cast on daytime.
I tuned back into Y&R recently in anticipation of the big BTG/Y&R crossover heading our way. The show is just absolutely awful. It’s not even recognizable to the show I grew up watching. Such a shame. I’m actually engaged with B&B which I never thought I would ever say again but I am enjoying it. I’m getting caught up on BTG and it is by far the best CBS show. I would watch Days if the damn Peacock app wasn’t always freezing and crashing. It’s impossible to get through a single episode without it freezing. GH is my first watch every day. Even on boring days, it’s better than Y&R.
Oftentimes, you can remove an app, then download it again and it won’t have the freezing problems, but maybe you already tried that.
Yeah, I tried that on both of our televisions and even upgraded to this highest internet speed in my area and it still freezes. The crazy thing is that it ONLY happens on Peacock. I stream everything else except for GH which I usually watch live and I never have problems with Paramount+ or Hulu if need to catch GH later.
This is not boding well for Y&R. With new owners at the top of CBS, how long do we think that bad ratings and such negative fan reactions are going to convince the new ones in charge to swing the axe? Speaking of ratings, I can’t help wondering if the constant sports pre-emptions are getting ratings as good or if not better than the soaps they are knocking off. Some local stations might air the soaps late night/early morning. But then, there are those that do not even let viewers know this re-programming thing at all.
It’s The Bold & Beautiful for me!!! Love the characters & story line. Even though sometimes I wish it was going a little differently. It keeps things interesting. ~ Mary

‘General Hospital’ Alum Chad Duell Drops First Single EDM/Dance Track ‘If You Need Me’

Last weekend, we shared the news that General Hospital alum and Daytime Emmy winner, Chad Duell (ex-Michael Corinthos) was releasing his first single today on June 26th and it has indeed dropped! And for those readers who guessed that Duell’s first track out of the gate was going to be an EDM/Dance/House track … you are correct, sir!
The song entitled, “If You Need Me” is perfect for the late night clubs and can be found on Spotify and other major streaming platforms! Duell is noted as the performing artist, but as the composer/ lyricist and the beatmaker of the track. For his music projects, Chad is going solely by the name of “Duelly” which has been his social media handle for years.
Taking to his Instagram on Friday, Duell explained his deep dive into making music, expressing, “I’ve wanted to make music for a long time… I just never did it. It always felt like this huge, overwhelming thing to learn. All the technical side of it, the programs, everything that goes into actually building a track… it was easy to keep pushing it off. A couple months ago I finally just decided to go for it.”

BIT BY BIT PUTTING IT TOGETHER
Chad added, “Since then I’ve been putting in a lot of time learning, experimenting, figuring things out, and slowly starting to find a sound I’m really proud of. This first release is more of a dance/EDM vibe, but I’ve also been working on a lot of different styles behind the scenes that I’m just as excited about. At some point I realized I could keep holding onto everything trying to make it perfect… or I could just start putting music out and grow as I go.”
Stepping out of his own way, Duell firmly says, “So that’s what I’m doing. My first track “If You Need Me” is out now. More coming soon… this is just the beginning.”
As GH viewers know, Chad made the decision to step away from General Hospital after a 15-year run with the series where his last episode aired in January of 2025. By May of last year, the role was recast with Rory Gibson debuting in the part.

Josh Griffith Out as Head Writer at ‘The Young and the Restless’

In a major behind the scenes move, The Young and the Restless current head writer, Josh Griffith is stepping down from his duties and is soon exiting the top-rated soap opera.
TV Insider was first to break the news and according to their report, Griffith’s departure was his own choice and the cast and crew learned of his decision earlier today on Friday, June 26.
Griffith’s resignation is not effective immediately and for now he will be continuing to tell the stories in Genoa City. As of this writing, Y&R has not named Josh’s successor.

Previously, Josh stepped down from his other major duty as the soap opera’s co-executive producer. It was just two months ago we learned that longtime Y&R vet Sally McDonald took over the EP role, while Josh was remaining the series head writer.
A SOAP WRITER WELL-TRAVELED
The seven-time Daytime Emmy winner has had a storied career and tenure in the field of daytime drama. Josh began his soap writing career in 1988 with Santa Barbara, then went to One Life to Live, where he was promoted to co-head writer. He ended his time in Llanview, at that time, in 1995. Later, he co-created Sunset Beach with Bob Guza Jr. The series ran from 1997-99 on NBC. One Life to Live called again and Josh returned as co-head writer again alongside Michael Malone from 2003-2004. Next, he joined the writing team of As the World Turns.
It was back in 2006 that Griffith first came to Genoa City and The Young and the Restless. He started in the capacity of creative consultant, as a breakdown writer, and then was tapped as the series co-executive producer. After departing in 2008. It was not until 2012-2013 that he made a short return before heading to Days of Our Lives to become the co-head writer of Salem from 2015-2016.
Eventually, Josh resurfaced at Y&R as Supervising Producer before becoming head writer in 2019 after Mal Young’s exit. Griffith had served as both head writer and executive producer from 2023-25. In 2025, Sally McDonald joined him as the series co-executive producer until the recent change a few months ago where McDonald is the sole EP.
