RATINGS: Y&R and B&B Have Great Week … While DAYS and GH Slip!
The ratings are out for the last week in June, the period of June 25-29th 2012, and there was great news for the CBS soaps! Both The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful showed impressive weeks! Let’s start with number one, Y&R! The folks in Genoa City gained the most viewers with +272,000, putting its total viewers to over 4.5 million. Y&R also added viewers in the key demos of women 18-49 and did well with men 18+.
Over at The Bold and the Beautiful, this show continues to show gains each week. B&B added + 198,000 viewers for the final week of June, and its total viewers are over 3.3 million. In addition, B&B was also strong in the key demos of women 18-49 and men 18 + as well.
This week’s ratings show Days of our Lives was again ahead of General Hospital, putting GH in fourth place. However, DAYS has once again dropped to all-time record lows in the 18-49 rating and 18-34 rating among female viewers. For the week DAYS lost – 47,000 viewers, but ended up with 2,329,000 total viewers checking out the action in Salem.
Over in Port Charles, the news was not good. GH lost the most viewers for the week -145,000, and its total viewer numbers were down to 2,277,000. To view the entire ratings courtesy of Soap Opera Network click here!

I am still watching GH.. Have no interest in watching the soaps on the other networks….I never have & why start now…Stickly the soaps on abc…..Never ventured to the other networks……………….They should change the viewing ages to 45-64 …The older crowd are dependable & home more often…………..Eighteen year olds change their interest like night & day……………………..These aren’t fair assumtions 18-49….That’s how I feel about it…..
So the 18-49 should be changed………….
Advertisers and networks have to keep reinventing themselves to appeal to the trends of the world today. Studies show the average soap viewer today is over the age of 50. I’m 48, but I understand that the world has changed so much in the last 5 decades and businesses have to keep up with the times to stay relevant and solvent. That’s a fact of life and we all need to get used to it.
And the myopic vision of soap fans always troubles me. I started watching GH at the age of 5 with my mom. When I grew up and understood what was going on, I was hooked. I ended up watching all the ABC serials.
But later as my brother and kids in my classes introduced me to the other networks I embraced them as well. At one point I watched over 12 serials spanning all three networks. I think both soap fans and those in the creative industry need to open their minds and think outside the box if they are to save this genre. Soaps today have not evolved efficiently enough to compete in today’s broadcast environment. The same repetitious and often implausible stories theyve done for decades will not hold the attention of today’s audience and it wont garner a new audience either. Cartini’s cartoon storylines are flopping on GH and that’s all the proof I need. SMH.
Advice for general hospital, Get rid of the reality tv garbage, Us soap fans don’t like it, Bring Natalie back to John, we don’t want Sam and John together as a couple until the Natalie and John problem is fixed, Remember he loves her (Natalie), Also get rid of the new Kristina shes a brat and very much disliked and she annoys everyone Including me.
I love Sam & John so “we” doesn’t count for everyone.
So did I when they were Livie and Caleb, They were a beautiful couple and they were hot, But the John MCbain now has to either get back with Natalie or break up with her instead of calling her every other day telling her how much he loves her, He isn’t a cheater and it would be wrong to turn him into one after he got back together with her before One life to live was ended.
Well I always got the feeling that John McBain & Jason Morgans TRUE LOVES were the face they saw everytime they looked in the mirror. lol
I will alway’s like John & Natalie together that will never change for me !!!!!!!
Agree with Barbara – watching GH because ABC cancelled OLTL – Bring Natalie on for John McBain and his son and quit this John/Sam crap. You missed such great storylines had they been brother/sister instead of alienating OLTL fans (by a kiss) and assassinating John McBain’s character. Would of loved John and Jason as brother-in-laws!! Hope their kiss isn’t GH’s “Kiss of Death”!
John needs to be with Natalie not Sam…..And Liam….Sam still loves Jason …She doesn’t admit this..In spite of everything Sam still loves Jason & alway’s will….Get rid of the mob princess story. It’s ruining the show…Need the right love connections on GH…No miss match ones like John & Sam….Yes they are ruining J. McBain’s character…..Can’t see Anna with Luke..Tracy is a better choice…John & Natalie had the HEAT thing going together you could see it every time they were together..They HAD PASSION…..Viewers want to see this..I know I do…..They need to team up the right people together…The writers need to get back on track with these STORIES…Start with Natalie & John…Jason& Sam…….And get rid on the mob princess ASAP it’s killing GH…
And I don’t care for Tray to much either….I wouldn’t miss his character ..Writers need to come up with NEW STORIES, NEW IDEAS..Don’t they realize this ??? Or else……
And stay with the couples we always liked together..NO MISS-MATCHING!!!
I don’t like Trey either and I hope that he is not Kates son, someone here mentioned Spinelli as kates son and I think that’s a good idea.
I like Spinelli….He’s a good hearted person…I like his character…..I hope he is Kate’s son also and not Trey…..John kissed Sam but said he doesn’t want to ruin his relationship with Natalie & he doesn’t want to lose his son either…Going back to Llanview to wait for Natalie to get back fron London & with Liam…Hope it’s a short visit & will be back in Port Charles very soon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why did they even bother to bring John on GH if they are only going to make him look bad? I just saw a commercial yesterday saying starting Sept. 10, GH will be on at 2PM so I guess it’s official for now. How long it will stay there is anyone’s guess since they’re squeezing it out. They hope by changing times after all these years it will lose more viewers so they can have an excuse to cancel it. Not that they need one because as we’ve seen, they do what they want!
At least he changed his mind about Sam and is heading home to Landview to be with Natalie, I don’t think any One life to live fan will ever except him carrying on with Sam unless there is closure to his relationship with Natalie and I know I don’t want to see that happen either, So now whats going to happen to John Mcbain? The one life to live fans will tune in at 2 but that will change if our characters from landview slowly loose their Identity, Me I will always watch till the soap comes to an end, It was the first soap that I watched, but loosing General hospital will never for me be as bad as the day abc announced that One life to live would be cancelled, that hurt and it still does.
John kissed Sam & now sam knows Jason kissed Elizabeth..I think their even on that score..I’m glad John admitted he stepped out of place. Could Sam forgive Jason about her losing the baby..Will Todd tell her the truth?????She still loves Jason…They need to sit down and talk things over AGAIN…..
I watch Y&R for over 10 years and personally I think GH is better. Y&R has somehow gone downhill. I think it is the writing but since it is shown in various countries it will always be counted as the highest amount of viewers.
Other countries’ ratings don’t figure into our country’s Neilsen numbers.
The problems at GH are in story, writing, and “been there done that syndrome” alas since the head people from OLTL have the helm of the show. Its too predictable, I knew two months ago what was going to happen, Kate’s root problems started with Sonny when they were young,and of course the boy doing the documentary-reality show is of course her son, the baby kidnapping story line with Todd is old news, Starr falling for Michael, and John McBain staying around, “where is Natalie and baby?” There is too much nonsense with the mob angle, now we have Traci’s dead husband, Heather, the nut, Luke being held hostage, enough already!!!!!!! The mob has taken over the show, whatever happened to the Hospital in General Hospital, the only remote connection is Patrick now being addicted to “uppers” The producers and writers are getting it all wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No wonder its sinking in the ratings………..

Very True – Storylines are so much like OLTL, we’ve mostly seen them before. The stupid baby switch is ridiculous, after they find out about the baby, watch Tea disappear with Jason Jr, jusst like Brody did with Jolie’s baby. Not again Please!
B&B is doing classic soap with a nod towards unconventional storytelling and twists that amp up the anticipation/impact (I watch to see what’ll happen next, with the wedding and even with something as simple as the iPad recording because that recording had a LOT of impact. I want to see how this reveal will affect the characters involved. It’s emotional storytelling, simple at times but it works and can have moments of great impact. Seeing HOW the characters react is half the fun, character-driven storytelling can make this work for viewers — heavily plot-driven soaps lose so much of the emotional part of the storytelling. Essentially B&B is just being a soap and not trying to be too edgy and such like GH and Y&R seem at times. Like B&B, Days has similar storytelling in Will’s SL, emotional (reaction), but the rest of the show sucks lemons; Days other SLs could be left off and not missed at all (except for the sad demise of Lexie). B&B is getting it closer to right, and it could be even better. But as it stands, it’s close enough to perfect. Days could embrace B&B’s style of storytelling easily if the writers were willing, but Y&R and GH have ventured into renventing themselves to the point of being almost unrecognizable to what they orginally were (pretty much what GL had become before being canceled, only GL was much worse and father gone than either of these two soaps). JMO
IMO: It’s time for soaps to be written as they were in the past with an emotional connection — not plot, plot, plot and no impact (emotional). Aussie soaps in the 1980s/90s as well as UK soaps of this era did character-driven, less predictable SLs. Sadly it appears some of these soaps (esp the Aussie ones) are now following the American-type soaps into the plot-driven abyss: I say NO more predictable SLs, please. Enough baby-switches, psycho-killers (Y&R! GH!), more human interest stories. And NO reality TV crap, we soap fans HATE that! Soaps are dead or even dying: Viewers are just being fed the same diet over and over and we’re “emotionally” starved because the SLs almost never have any real human interest/emotional payoff these days. Again, my OP.

Matt, bravo I wish the writers of GH could take a page out of your book, actually give them the ENTIRE book! GH has become so predictable & unrecognizable to the point of boredom! Everyone of these story lines its like we have seen them before, either on GH itself or from OLTL; its so bad the story lines are identical just different characters are being used. Its hard to tune into the last surviving soap on ABC when the writing seems so off key. I have actually tuned back into B&B after not viewing for quite a while, something about the liam/hope/steffy just keeps me tuned in, I can’t explain it. GH has been so dark & gloomy for the past 7 months if I wanted to watch a horror movie I’d rent Friday the 13th! I really like your post Matt.
Personally, I think the problem with Days of Our Lives is how out of balance it is with regards to what characters get airtime. We’ve seen EJ almost every day for a long time while others, like John and Marlena are on maybe once or twice a week! Some others we don’t see for weeks on end.

And also… I’Ve only been watching Days since AMC/OLTL cancellation announcement. The Lexie dying SL was given way too much airtime.
BarbJ, I totally disagree with you about Lexie’s SL being given too much time. She was on for close to 25 years and was a beloved legacy character. I think it got just the right amount of air time.
I agree with Rob. Lexie has barely been seen on Days, so it was fine that she had plenty of time on-screen before her death. Not to mention she is a fan-favourite.
I agree as well, a long-term character, and actor like Lexie/Renee deserves a long send off that respects the longevity on the show. I appreciated that they had scenes, and flashbacks with people that had a long history with each other. I was disappointed that Roman was not at the memorial. And we haven’t seen him in scenes with Abe since Lexie died.
Yeah. Roman wasn’t seen for a bit, then the only real scenes he gets is investigating this whole Stefano thing. He should’ve been seen with Abe at the memorial, considering how they are friends. But I was glad that he learned Will is gay and seemed to be accepting.
I really think if GH is going to regain viewers they are going to have to fix a few things the number one Problem John/Sam yes I know there is fans that like them together but not enough to make up for the mess of John’s history with Natalie and Liam – OLTLers don’t like the destruction of his character and I have posted with non Jolie fans that are angry….they want those actors to stay true to character and no more carnage from any OLTLer that comes over ie killing them…Also the Jasam fan base is huge too can you imagine finally getting your wedding for your couple and they are pregnant only to have new writters come in and totally destroy that…Then there is all the GH actors they back burned to now make it the Sam show…..I was so happy to hear some of our OLTL actors going to GH but I was naive I didnt know we were going to have to lose all since of their character like John – this GH john is like a imposter, then killing off cole/hope, Tea’s baby….I mean like what is next i hate to find out….I did not watch the cheating kiss Friday and I won’t Monday I am not watching John/Sam….that is so out of character for John to do after getting his family back….this is just the touch of things going wrong on GH……Can’t believe TPTB think trying to put a couple of actors from a soap canceled 10yrs ago together and allinate more than two huge fans bases to appease one new fan base is going to help ratings thats just idiotic
WOW! Well said Lynn. GH needs more Lante on the screen for the younger viewers. I ownly watched GH for Patrick & Robin and then when John McBain came over, but it is extremely hard because of what they are doing to his character & Jolie!
I think Natalie should come to Port Charles & with Liam..Took so long for them to finally get back together…………….Don’t team up John with any one else but Natalie…..That’s what I WANT to see………………….They have a lot of PASSION &HEAT together…………….TRUE LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The writers have to remember the stories on GH in the good old days that worked so well……Not this mob stories or mob princess crap, no more alters etc……. More love relationships ETC……..
You’re right on the money Lynn. I quit watching GH a few weeks ago because I don’t even recognize the show anymore. John would never cheat on Natalie when they fihally got back together when OLTL ended. Killing kids just to hook up an OLTLer with a GHer stinks. Lots of GH actors get no sceen time. I miss Lante. Give Sam her baby back and let Liz move on with Ewen instead of being dumped when the baby is back and Jason finds out the baby is his. Also start writing some ORIGINAL NEW stories for GH, not the same recycled stuff from OLTL.
AGREED Lynn, I am a jolie fan as well as a jasam fan. Speaking from a GH & OLTL standpoint characters were assassinated, John/sam/jason especially. It feels like the writers are tricking us, they brought over OLTL characters & viewers only to slap them in the face with this. Not saying this as a jasam fan but John belongs with natalie, i rooted for them for years “Red”/john. Many hate natalie but something about her & john, it was fire, i hated when they broke up so long & went with other people & liam’s paternity was dragged on so long. It seems like the same is happening with jasam. pairing a couple to appease a fan base from a show that was cancelled 10 years ago this imo makes no sense! I hope TPTB know what they are doing.
General Hospital is losing viewers for seveval reasons: the DID story line so copied from OLTL, the baby swap again copied from OLTL, having characters act out of the character they have been for years. For me having Sam think her baby is dead after what she went through to have a baby is disgraceful.

I am a new GH fan. I started watching because of the OLTL characters, but fell in love with the show quickly. I am also a Days fan. I agree that the Will storyline is gripping, but I love anything Nicole. Living with my in laws I have caught the CBS shows…I have to say that GH is by far the best on the air! Y&R bores me and Phylis is overrated, though I enjoy Sharon. B&B is ok. I enjoy Hope/Liam/Steffie. DAYS is in transition right now, but kind of mess….GH on the otherhand is nearly as good as OLTL was at the end.
You said you like Nicole. I was curious as to whether you like her scenes with Daniel? Also, are you an EJole fan?
Actually, believe it or not I am enjoying Nicole and Daniel scenes. I am a EJole fan, but the break was needed…not sure if they really should be reunited either. So much damage has been done. I like seeing Nicole happy and strong. Zucker is DAYS top talent IMO!
Viewership is Down? How about the fact that it is june /july, and most people are on Family vacations!! School is out across the country, people are using DVR’s to catch up at a later date!

OLTL, and now GH, Best programs on Television!! Everyone knows that.
Y&R is doing the same storyline over and over. It’s like it’s going in circles … stuck hopelessly in the spin cycle: Murder mystery — change characters/actors, tweak a few things … rinse … recycle … reuse. Instant soap. Repeat same process. (Maybe viewers won’t realize they’re watching the same story again and again.) Oh well, it does help get rid of characters who have over-stayed their welcome — or passed their expiration date!
Y&R my very favorite soap but your right Matt. Its time to take out the trash so to speak. They just got rid of Rickey, His stay should have been longer and kept mysterious, as far as Daisy .. Good bye forever. The one i really dislike is Victor and Sharon as a couple. I guess it happens but Grandpop is how i see it with a way to young woman and her new personality bites. Kind of reminds me of Reva who made it thru all the men in one family on the Guiding light.

If Days uses the return of Eileen Davidson to full advantage, it may help turn the show around. Sony is putting a lot on her return and her characters Kristen/Susan Banks. If they end Will’s storyline, then it’ll be harder for some views (like myself) to embrace the changes. I mean they’d be getting rid of the only SL that actually worked, prob the SL that helped the show win an Emmy for best writing for the first time since 1976. Going to be interesting in August after the hiatus for the Summer Olympics (but ED won’t begin airing until October.)
I don’t think that Will’s storyline is going to be scrapped. Also, they aren’t firing anymore actors, so Will and Sonny are here to stay. I think they’re just going to show them being friends, even though they both like each other, and probably encounter some homophobia. Chandler also said that December is going to be a big month for Will, so maybe WilSon will start there. Days is smart for getting views from both EJami and Lumi fans by showing the Lumi romance while still having Sami and EJ interact. But I hear that a Safe/Lumi triangle is on the way, as well as a Racole/Dicole triangle. Carrie, Madison and Austin leaving the show is going to bring back viewers. Most people think Bradison is boring, as is Cafe, and a heck of a lot of viewers think Carrie and Austin never should’ve returned. Also, Ian is leaving, which is good news for most of us. I think that by the end of summer, viewership will increase a while bunch. The only thing keeping the show alive now is the Lumi/EJami scenes, Nicole being pregnant, and the Stefano storyline. People tend to tune out for Gabi’s storyline and also the Dicole romance. The one thing that I see hurting the show this fall is the axing of fan-favourites, such as Bo, Jack and Melanie.
See, I don’t dislike the Dicole romance….I would love for Chloe to be on to see her best friend now dating her ex. The Gabby story bores me, but I love Melanie despite how many of you dislike her. I will miss her. I hope Gabby is back burnered or leaves after this storyline ends.
I don’t dislike Dicole either, but a lot of people do. I still woud rather see EJole or Racole, but Dicole is OK. I also like Melanie a lot and will miss her. I think it would be interesting for Chloe to be on as well. Me and my grandmother discussed that. As for Gabi…I have heard rumours of her being with Chad and them having sex. May not be true, but I also know she is not going anywhere anytime soon.
Yeah, considering the mostly great reviews and Daytime Emmy Awards they got (mostly thanks to Chandler), I think his storyline is a keeper, even if they do slow things down a bit, which I hope they do not.
I had such high hopes for general hospital and now forget it, I love my characters from One life to live and I am sick about the way things are going, the thought of John Mcbain making out with Sam is not working for me and I am still hoping that John will change his mind very quickly after that dreaded kiss we seen on Friday, to me it was gross, because he loves Natalie and wants to be a father to his son, Also don’t like the reality garbage it has to go along with that new Kristina, Tea was wasted coming to port charles she lost her baby (victors) and now has someone else’s baby, Blair is going to pop up in Port charles for a few visit’s and it’s going to be short, All my Favorite characters From One life to live are slowly getting killed and I don’t like it , Talk about character assassination, I would much rather my friends go back to landview and stay there and let me believe they are living happily ever after, but when and if that happens the ratings for General hospital will go down even further. Ron your a genius when it comes to writing , Please turn things around and start respecting the charters from landview because you are pissing off a lot of One live to live fans with dead babies, dead boyfriends and kisses we don’t want to see and for the love of god get rid of the reality crap it’s not funny, the kid with the camera and that awful excuse for a replacement of the other Kristina, General hospital is not working for me and needs to be changed fast.
I agree it almost mirrored my thoughts and alot of other OLTLers on the boards i’ve been on, I didnt say all but the majority…..RC/FV have done what I didnt think ever possible I have had John/nat haters joining in with the john/nat fans after friday they are so angry about all the OLTL distruction…..john’s character being one of them in a mounting line up of deaths etc…
That’s how I feel, I don’t like it and I hope that the stories will change in time. I want my favorites from landview to survive in Port Charles I just don’t want them to be changed as people and John would never hurt Natalie not after they finally got back together, If Natalie shows up and John and her have a story and they break up that’s another story, I wont like it But I would understand and maybe possibly like Sam and John together together in the future, in the meantime I say no to John and Sam hooking up. I would much rather Have One life to live back and visit landview and Port charles at different times during the day, will never get over what abc did to the soaps.
The kiss made John look cheap and impaired–an Irish stereotype who downs a pint a whiskey and kisses the first nearby object.
Hopefully he corrects the mistake he made by kissing Sam. He probably should stay away from the alcoholic beverages and not repeat what he did do with kelly, Weren’t they both drunk?
Make sure you watch today’s episode of GH. Concerning how they are dealing with John & Natalie I did not see this one coming.
I should have made that bet with you, John is walking away for now and going back to Landview Where he belongs. But once he is there what will happen with Natalie and the baby? I think WE may have more bets in the future to make.

Frank and Ron are so good at picking new people for there characters, but they messed up in this girl playing Kristina. I just don’t like her, every time she talks, that attitude of hers makes my skin crawl, She has to go along with the reality crap and that idiot with the camera. Hey, Susan M. John came to his senses he said he crossed the line, you bet he did, But what is going to happen now when he returns to landview? Will he and Natalie break up?

Kate with another alter hmmmmmmmmmm.. Is Kate going to catch up with Viki & all the alters she had??? I hope not…..Writers are copying from OLTL story………………I hope this is the last alter for Kate..I think viewers are losing interest in those kind of stories….Need some new & fresh ideas.. I think the writing on GH is really great right now.Love Todd and crazy Heather,don’t care for the Kristina/Kate’s son storyline.
The only way for GH to get me to watch on a regular basis is if they get rid of the boring mob storylines once and for all.

I agree. Me and my grandparents are more into the romance and hospital stuff than the boring mobsters! We could watch Mob Wives if we want to see that.
I’ve been a Y&R fan since the late 70’s. I’m not sure how it can still be #1 because this show is so unwatchable now, due to LML’s and later MAB’s systematic destruction of daytime’s titan. The show seems like an endless meandering of nonsensical plot lines. Also, letting Eileen Davidson go is a HUGE mistake. Letting Daisy go was the right thing to do, however. They also need to write out the following characters: Tucker, YoHarmony, Sophia, Genevieve, Cane, etc. The following need to be brought back and/or put back on contract: Nina, Lauren, Ashley, the original Mac, etc.
I don’t watch B&B, but I do follow DAYS and GH. DAYS is okay, though I’m not buying the “who murdered Stephano” storyline. Why do soaps always kill off characters that everyone hates anyway, even the town police, who later have to investigate the crime, even though everyone thinks the real killer did everyone a favor?
GH is very good, though I do agree with the post that we don’t need a reality show within a show. Also, why do soap kids come back from school in such a sour mood all the time? I hope that what I read somewhere is true, that they will be integrating more ONE LIFE TO LIVE characters with the new GH. This will be a good way to right a HUGE wrong. Hopefully, Natalie will be in Port Charles very soon.
You are right about Days. Sadly, Stefano is returning, which means his schemes will hog the storylines from eveyrone else. But Jo is a great actor!
Whether you like GH or not right now, Ron and Frank are responsible for boosting ratings. It’s been 5 months and it’s still not happening. IMO Ron is just recycling everything from OLTL and adding it to GH.
Ron and Frank, did not boost anything. Except for a few weeks here and there, when the ratings went up, the ratings are the same as when Garin Wolf was HW.
Exactly my point. They’re responsible and they’re not doing it. Therefore they should be held accountable yet so many want to praise them. I’ll praise them when they actually do right by the show. I think rating were even better under Garin (although I don’t know why because his writing was like watching wet paint dry). I think GH’s personality has changed too much, too rapidly and long term fans are not used to it. I was never a fan of OLTL and this type of writing is why I was never a fan of OLTL.
OLTL wasn’t this dark and twisted. If they were literally recycling OLTL, they shouldn’t have killed off Starr’s family and Tea’s baby, made John look like a cheat, and attempted to redeem Todd. Patrick is beside himself over the loss of his wife, while Starr who lost her boyfriend AND her daughter is already moving on.
These characters are warped beyond recognition. It seems no one is pleased by the recent turn of events. I don’t know what they are doing.

I never watched OLTL… so, with all the fan hoopla about regurgitation… sorry about the upheaval… OLTL Fans… but, i don’t see the same “story”… I was instantly smitten, with TEA. so, i feel like the build-up with the baby switch… was kinda kicked to the curb… with just Sam… still carrying the story… with, only heather, and Todd… knowing… I”M STILL ROOTING FOR SAM… that baby was real… girl… sleuth. I still miss ATWT.
I can’t even go their… ala… Sam and McBain…. Jason and Elizabeth. it’s not as torturous, for me… because of how Jason, treated Sam. I’m patiently, waiting, for the reunion… Sam and her child.
course, i still like the idea… of Sam and Patrick… finding each other.
Sammi & Carrie, Hiss and Claw… Daggers! “My Husband is all that…” Marlena drags her cross…. triumphantly…. LOL! Dr. Marlena: “Show some Respect”.
Sammi valiantly trumps Carrie… “who’s the father? Your husband or mine?
Carrie Whips back: “you’re so jelous of me! I don’t have to look at the calender to know who the father of mine is.” referring to all of Sammi’s… she does have 4 kids.
Sammi retaliates: “i can talk to you any way I want!”.
Nicole and Daniel. Eww! or maybe? Nicole, asks Daniel…”why do you get involved with ALL your patients.? Daniel’s BEDside manner. Insasmuch, as Nicole, makes her rounds… you want to see her “happy”. I’m still excited, she’s pregnant, with EJ’s child. She’s such a good actress. The men of DAYS… succumb to her Aura.
A Salem resident tells Sonny – “someone, like Will, comes with a lot of baggage.” I’m still questioning… all this power play with EJ…. Chandler Massey is a good actor… he’s Learning from the best… and that’s EJ. but, is this? forced? too much, too soon? moving on from the coming out story? diverting from, what should have been more drama from his mom,dad, and the rest of the family… save the rich twosome… Will and his Grandma? this would have continued to be good story for the two to play out.. as, the rest of Salem… reel, accept, tolerate, misguided, judgmental play’out?

I heard that Will encounters some homophobia. I would like to see a reaction from Maggie, Caroline and Brady, as well as Austin. Rafe, Carrie and Roman also should react more to this news. But for now they are focusing more on Will and Sonny, which is nice, but how ’bout his other friends supporting him? That would be interesting. I applaud Days for not making this Will’s sole storyline, even if his storyline with EJ is boring.
I would like GH to move away from the central mob storylines and embarce more human interest stories. The hospital is the title character, and the primary setting should offer opportunities for paths to cross and for even some engaging short-term stories as doctors and nurses deal with day-to-day life in those hallowed halls.
Y&R runs hot and cold for me. I’d like top see some cast shakedown and some attempts at lasting redemption — other than a Jimmy Stewart turn each Christmas that is forgotten a week later — of characters such as Victor. And could someone save Sharon, once a voice of reason and some genuineness among the rich and powerful? I am all for legacy characters but at some point they need to stop acting like they did 20-25 years ago.
DAYS is new to me and I like the reality-based stores. Will’s coming out, Lexie’s death. But if Lexie is resurrected, it is all for naught. Then Salem life is only silly. I am so over implausible resurrections. Life goes on and new people come into the scene.
B&B is a mess for me. Too much of one story involving a family too insular to be believed. I’d like to see some LA heat (other than in Steffy’s bed or the Forrester steam room) and stories that engage apowerful family. Politics. Financial ruin and its effects (We have had several years of rough economy, surely West Coast haute couture is affected.). I like the lesbian storyline but am disappointed it is not more front-burner and Joanna Johnson is not on screen soon.
About your Days comment, Lexie is really dead, there are no resurrections for her…sadly, Stefano is still alive and will return soon.

This coming from someone who only watched CBS shows. How Y&R and B&B gain viewers is astounding to me. The worst stories and writing of all four!!
Rob I was a big fan of Y&R and even B&B they are both popular overseas I think that contributes to this maybe not, because both shows are pretty bad B&B had Kim Matula HOPE in the most episodes in the first 6 months of this year and her acting experience consists of being a waitress in LA for Hard Rock Cafe. It is sickening that we watch teenyboppers and fired the lovely Lesley Ann Down Jack Wagner we never see Hunter Tylo unless Ridge the 60 year old man/child still needs to be proped up. KKL decides she does not want to work with Sean Kanan so poof he is gone and now conveintly Joanna Johnson can not continue with the you know barn burning lesbian storyline what a joke! However both actresses CC & JJ looked stiff and bored and they had how many speaking lines.

@Matt, I seriously doubt we will see anything “Kabe” (Kayla and Abe) in the next half of the year. Kayla and Steve will take quite a while to settle down after the divorce, and Abe would never jump into another woman’s arms that quickly after his wife died. But I do think that sometime next year, they would be a nice couple. Them getting together right away would not be realistic, and it would annoy most of the fans. We just want to see them be very close at first. I can also see many of the fans being annoyed at the departures of Bo, Jack and Melanie. However, once Ian, Carrie and Austin leave, as well as Gabi’s storyline finishing, the ratings will return. I hope it comes out that EJ IS indeed a DiMera. Why would he resemble Santo DiMera if he was not part of his family? And as for Stefano…he is returning! Muah haha!
I agree, though I prefer Days to GH, with you. B&Band Y&R are too old and too rehashed to be nice and interesting to watch. B&B is like musical beds and scheming galore, especially with Lope/Steffy and Ridge/Brooke. Y&R is just boring murder storylines and relationship drama. These two shows are the equivalent of reality TV

B&B is the most consistent of all the remaining soaps. The writing could be better, even more focused on character. It appeals to a younger demo than the others while keeping many of its older core fans as well… young love is hard to beat, esp in a daytime soap, and esp when there are so many ups and downs (like the iPad recording, etc.) It just works. Yet it could be even better because B&B is NOT at its full potential (as others posters have pointed out.) Thing is if B&B were in trouble, they could roll out the family feud over the business storyline and bring their ratings back quicky. Few soaps can say that. I read a few scripts from the 90s and B&B is not as different from then as viewers seem to think, even in the writing. B&B is trying to cut what doesn’t/isn’t working — like Amber, but Amber could have worked in small doses because she rattled Brooke to no end! I enjoyed seeing how Amber affected Brooke. Amber did not need the ridiculous SL re: Rick, the real SL was how she affected Brooke and others. Having Amber try to sneak/worm her way back into the Forrester family was ALL the SL she needed to work as a character. BTW her getting pills for Hope online was one of my fave moments from B&B of late! Fantastic! B&B is the little soap that could; it’s the most watched soap in the world. I do wish B&B could reach its full potential because it could be simply amazing.
“Y & R” and its yo-yo ratings have become very irksome to this long-time viewer. No matter the week, it’s an inconsistent, over-populated, plot-driven mess of a program. It’s frustrating to watch and I keep hoping and praying for Maria Arena Bell to be relieved of her duties!!
I am LOVING GH lately, it has not been this exciting in years. I am highly suspicious of these ratings.

Maggie and Madison 12 step for Brady!
i’ve thought this all along… that Madison should have been Maggie’s embryo… ala daniel is already an established character… finally! we see a good scene with Madison and Maggie… i thought it was electric. the Jezebel and mary magdelene… hot about town Madison and pillar of community Maggie. similar to Erica Kane and Mona Tyler.. OK, a little to late… so what? Just, Pressing, how good this could have been.
I don’t know that i like Madison’s ranting and raving… when we know she’s leaving… Brady is acting and giving the audience… another layer… dimension… something new and different… doesn’t Brady look and act like he’s relapsing? This is another potential story that hooks me.
I have to agree, with another poster… that, John this time around.. hasn’t been given anything… and that the vivacious Marlena… is all woman. John, started out, his return… with the trial… then, the same ole gina story… the divorce and remarriage with Marlena hasn’t happened… I’m certain…. the new writers… PLEASE. don’t mess this up… Kristen DiMera.. will ignite John and Marlena.

I am so not surprised that GH is failing in the ratings under Cartini’s regime. They’re cartoonish, sophomoric stories have caused me to once again turn the show off after over 42 yrs of watching.
Just like the last few yrs of Guza & Phelps I can’t take it anymore. They are destroying history, they dont have the nerve to standup to the backstage politics that continue to pander to Steve Burton, Maurice Bernard, Laura Wright and Kelly Monaco at the expense of the veteran actors and the rest of the cast. And worst of all their fanatical and unprofessional allegiance to their former One Life to Live actors and stories is truly shameful. I was excited and hopeful when they took the reigns of GH, but they have completely let me down. GH is once again in trouble, and considering the encouraging ratings of Good Afternoon America, not to mention the fact that it’s less expensive to produce, I wouldnt be surprised it GH’s 50th anniversary is its last. SMH.

I feel that General Hospital’s ratings may be slipping because of the current storyline with Heather Webber’s return. Her storyline is sickening and may be the cause of the show’s dropped ratings. Before that , the storylines were becoming very intensed and interesting; then comes the Heather storyline and now I feel like fast forwarding. The storyline with sam and Jason’s child going to a character who is not on the soap is not interesting either. Find a way to let Sam and Jason have their child. It would be nice to See the parental side of Jason!! On let me not forget the storyline where Christina comes back and Alexis is letting her just take over like she is the child and Christina is the adult. That storyline is also sickening. I really want GH to be around awhile longer
I respectfully disagree with you thinking the ratings are going down because of the character Heather Weber, She is the main reason I tune in every day, she is a joy to watch, shes nuts, But is she really? No Robin Mattsons portrayal of Heather Weber is the best thing going on in Port Charles at this time. I really don’t care about the baby switch, however I don’t like that a character from One life to live is dead again, as in tea loosing her child, it seems all the characters that I care about have been killed when I would feel better knowing they are still in Landview alive, well, and happy. As far as the kristina taking over her mothers house I have to agree with you, Her daughter and her camera guy friend would be out the door quicker then a speeding bullet, and she Kristina would have to find another way to support herself because all of her allowance would be cut off the day she left school. Whether or not General hospital stays or goes depends on who continues to watch I for one will stay till the very end and I truly hope that general hospital stays for it’s 50th anniversary and the soap goes for another 50 years this fan will be there till the very end.

53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Nominations Announced: ‘The Young and the Restless’ Tops With 18, ‘Beyond the Gates’ With 16
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) today announced the full list of nominees for the upcoming 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, and it was CBS daytime’s The Young and the Restless and broadcast television newest soap opera, Beyond the Gates that racked up the most nominations with 18 and 16, respectively.
The full reveal on Tuesday follows the announcement of several major categories including Lead Actor and Actress on Monday via Extra and Entertainment Tonight and The View today revealing Daytime Drama Series and more.
The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmys ceremony is set to take place on Friday, October 30 at the historic Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood, California.

The Daytime Emmy Awards have recognized outstanding achievement in television programming and crafts since 1974, honoring work in a variety of genres, including daytime dramas, talk series, entertainment news, culinary, adventure, instructional and legal/courtroom programming.
This year’s Lifetime Achievement Honoree, Gold & Silver Circle Inductees, and ceremony host will be announced at a later date.

Monday on Entertainment Tonight, the second set of nominations for the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards were announced which included the highly-coveted Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actress and Outstanding Daytime Talk Series.
ET followed suit after Extra announced the nominees, as previously reported, in the Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actor and Outstanding Daytime Talk Host.
Now, five leading ladies of the soaps are vying for the gold for Lead Actress and the category marked the first-ever nominations for CBS daytime’s Beyond the Gates when two actresses made the final cut. Only General Hospital is not represented among the actresses this year after Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) took home the trophy last year.

THE FIVE LEADING LADIES OF THE SOAPS ARE …
The 2026 Lead Actress nominees are: Stacy Haiduk (Kristen DiMera), Days of Our Lives, Karla Mosley (Dani Dupree), Beyond the Gates, Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Summers), The Young and the Restless, Heather Tom (Katie Logan), The Bold and the Beautiful, and Tamara Tunie (Anita Dupree), Beyond the Gates.
This marks the first Daytime Emmy nominations for Karla Mosley and Tamara Tunie. In addition, this marks the first-time in her career that Stacy Haiduk had received a Lead Actress nod after two Supporting Actress nominations.
Meanwhile, Michelle Stafford had previously won 3 Emmys – 2 for Lead Actress and 1 for Supporting, but this recognition makes it her 11th overall nomination.
Heather Tom currently is tied for the most all-time Daytime Emmy wins with One Life to Live alum and General Hospital guest star, Erika Slezak. The B&B star has 19 nominations throughout her career.

DAYTIME TALK SERIES
In the Outstanding Daytime Talk Series category, the nominees are: 3rd Hour of Today, The Drew Barrymore Show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, Live with Kelly and Mark, Today with Jenna and Friends and The View.
“We’re proud to honor the extraordinary talent and creative teams whose work continues to define and elevate daytime television,” NATAS president and CEO Adam Sharp said in a statement on the nominations. “As the Daytime landscape evolves and new forms of storytelling emerge, we remain committed to recognizing the innovation happening across the industry.”
The rest of the nominations will be revealed tomorrow on Tuesday July 14 starting on The View and then the full list of nominees in both the main and creative arts will be released by NATAS. The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards are slated for October 30th in Hollywood, California.

It’s Daytime Emmy nomination week, and as previously reported things kick-off on Monday, July 13 when Entertainment Tonight (7pm ET) will announce the nominees for Lead Actress category and Daytime Talk Series for the upcoming 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards. In addition on Monday, Extra (7pm ET) will reveal the nominees for Lead Actor and Daytime Talk Host.
On Tuesday, The View (11am ET) starts things off with their announcement of Daytime Drama, Entertainment News program and Outstanding Daytime Personality-Daily. That is followed by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) full reveal of all the categories beginning at 12noon ET/9am PT on their website and their official social handles on X and Instagram.
Then, Tuesday night at 8pm ET/5pm PT join Michael Fairman as he hosts his 12th annual Daytime Emmy Nominations Special 2026 live on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel where he will chat with some of the just announced nominees as we celebrate the hard work of the men and women in front of the camera who will be going for gold.
WHEN ARE THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
This year, the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be handed out on October 30 in ceremonies in Hollywood, California (Venue yet to be revealed). At that time, as like last year, both the major categories and creative arts will be presented. There is no word yet on a broadcast partner for the annual celebration of daytime programming, or if it will soley be streamed on NATAS’ watch.theemmys.tv and various apps and platforms.
