RATINGS: Y&R and DAYS Show Gains, B&B Holds, But GH Down In Total Viewers!

The ratings are out for the week of May 2nd through the 6th, and it was the Sony shows of The Young and the Restless and Days of our Lives that added total viewers.  Y&R added +30,000 total viewers for the week bringing their weekly average total to 4,910,000.   The number one soap also added + 45,000 in women 24-54 demo, +53,000 in the womens 18-49 key demo.  In story, the aftermath of Sage’s (Kelly Sullivan) death continued to play out.

Over at Days of our Lives, the NBC series saw a slight increase in the positive with a gain of +29,000 total viewers bringing the show’s weekly average to 2,228,000. DAYS was also up in the 18-49 , 18-34 and 25-54 demos ever so slightly.   The story of Maggie’s (Suzanne Rogers) daughter, Summer (Marie Wilson) played out, as well as learning more about the machinations of Deimos (Vincent Irizarry).

While The Bold and the Beautiful remained the same in total viewers for the week- neither a gain or a loss, they hold strong with 3,825,000 for their weekly average for total viewers.   The show featured Nicole (Reign Edwards) learning Sasha (Felisha Cooper) is her sister and confronting their father, Julius (Obba Babatunde’), and Thomas (Pierson Fode) finding out that he is Douglas’ biological father.  B&B also showed small increases in the key womens demos.

But there was not so good news for General Hospital.   The soap was the only one of the four network soaps in the minus in total viewers, and taking a tumble of losing -108,000 for the ratings week.  GH did not fare much better in the key demos ending up in the minus colum in women 18-49 and 25-54.

GH did get a small additon in the womens 18-34 category.  In story, as Carlos (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) is being transported to another prison facility there is a major accident affecting the lives of several PC citizens, while Anna (Finola Hughes) is reaching her breaking point.  View the entire ratings picture courtesy of SON here.

Numbers are based on Live+Same Day ratings

GH–
Lost in total viewers 108,000 ..

Ask me if I am surprised…

Want to add;
Carlos (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) ..BRAVO!..
His death scenes was awesomely gripping.. He is a phenomenal !

Agree JVP was great! Sad to see him go

Su… From being a “priest” in Puerto Rico, in a jail-cell next to Anna in PC, scenes with Julian Pier 54, to final scenes, ironically, with another priest and the son Duke who he killed, Vincent/Carlos was excellent. The big downside is even though Carlos was bad we lost another actor.

Totally concur with y’all. JVP is an amazing actor. Not only was the death scene played with guttural believability, the look on his face when Julian stabbed him was emotionally compelling.
I did not care for the character, however. Maybe it’s because he was coupled with Sparkle Pony–I dunno.
But I do know that JVP has a promising future ahead of him and will be gainfully employed as an actor.

su0000, we agree again! (This is getting to be a habit, isn’t it?)
I just posted that they should bring him back as a PRIEST.

Young and the Restless won only one award this could be the first time and day time history The Young and the Restless is finally going to be over probably because of Chuck Pratt and Jill Phelps. I’m not surprised I don’t know anybody who watches the show anymore I stopped after 30 years

More scenes with Jason and Sam that last longer than 30 seconds. Get on with the boring Dr. Finn character cause it’s dragging on too long and getting tiresome. Alexis and Julian have had some good scenes that have kept me watching.

Really? I think Dr Finn is extremely interesting and well played by the actor. I am afraid Sam and Jason are a bit of a somnolent snooze fest for me. I do love that Franco refers to them as “those two idiots.”
I think Jason has lost his mystique and JASAM have lost that loving feeling.

Billy Miller + bad writing = Death of Jason. JUST HORRIBLE!

@Harry…..I’m also loving the arcane Finn—and his strange choice of sidekick, Roxy! The appearance of this mysterious loner, save for his service lizard, not to mention the addition of “Father/Dr. Griffin Munro” have been the only delightful character introductions to GH in an absolute age! This is how it’s done, folks….now could we please concentrate on fleshing out these two roles and set about getting rid of all those other awful newbies that didn’t (and never will) take to the canvas???? (And yes, I’m talking about Nina, Sabs, Hayden, Jordan, et al….and whilst we’re at it, a one-way trip out of Port Charles for Alexis and Julian would not go amiss either….)

I agree on the Jason and Sam scenes……I do find the Finn story line developing into something interesting especially the scenes with Tracy…..However, feel the show would be sooo much better off without Julian and Alexis!

Hardly a surprise. We had a week full of mob stories, of strong women being weak (Anna & Alexis) and too much Jason and Sam–who remain without chemistry.

Noticed the Becky return was 2nd highest rated of the week.

I’ve been watching GH on and off for more than 30 years and watching Y&R for 4 months–and it’s easy to understand why one is up and the other is sinking.

“Strong women being weak”–a real buzz kill. No wonder GH is down in the ratings. Same stories, second run–no more gripping this time around–just tired and predictable. 🙁

GH is a disgusting mess, there is not one story I am invested in. I guess the only reason I still watch is because I have invested 38 years of my life in it. I get the impression ABC-Disney wants us to hate the show so that no one will balk when they finally cancel it.

Yeah, me, too. That’s a long investment. Hard to let go BUT, what’s to hold on to?
No story or character to invest in: you are right.

With GH going down OMG how can that be?It was very very heavily porno Jasam…Umm I guess they are NOT what the viewers wants ,,,And YES some says well its not just about 1 couple, those who said that always want to slap each other on the back if ratings are up..I guess some want it both ways…..GIVE THE FANS WANT WILL BRING IN THE RATINGS or GH was cancel out…MAYBE that is what ABC wants….

No Genie Francis story in the May sweeps–could THAT be one BIG reason the ratings are down? TPTB bring us up and bring Genie on–but dash our hopes about a story for her. I am tired of being jerked around (and if I am tired, I can only imagine how tired Genie must be). Get us (and Genie) off this not-so-merry-go-round.

First let me say I was a HUGE GF fans/I adored her back in the day/GF/TG was GH…BUT that was in the past and I just dont see her being back is what GH needed…I just dont feel GF is a big draw any more..IMHO we dont have a couple to root for..I’m sick of the mob crap and TTIC redoing history/have then tell me what I heard and saw in a story line..I want LOVE in the after noon/not some barn yard roll into the floor crap…We still could have a happy loven couple (LIKE) Luke/Laura had…..I thought TIIC were on the right track with Lake/Liason but they screwed that couple up badly OVER what a lie???Pls what crap…..Like who in PC has NOT lied?????

But Toy, Genie could be a draw if the writers just gave her a chance!
How can we say she is no longer a draw when she has barely been given any time to prove herself?
Give her a story which is not predicated on her past with Luke or on her children and maybe, just maybe, she could draw viewers in.
I just find it unfathomable that TPTB fail time and time again to listen to viewers. In fact, TPTB seem to be engaged in oppositional behavior in that they go against what viewers want.
Duke and AJ have been killed off. Robert Scorpio is alive and well but they will not give him a front burner story. The pets, Stafford, Howarth. etc. continue to be afforded chance after chance to boast ratings but they fail to deliver.

I agree that Genie Francis’ absence is hurting. I know some people think that she’s not a big draw anymore, but I disagree. She is a name with a large following. I only watch when I know she’s going to be on. And Harry, you’re right, if they would just give her and other characters with actual GH history a chance, maybe they’d see higher ratings.

Harry….You could be right if Genie had a good s/l people may turn in…I can only speak for myself again I adored Genie back in the day I LOVED LOVED her…Now I can’t say I do but that is just me…For others who are fans of Genie I hope she get a good story so you can enjoy watching her again…I guess for me I say TIIC doesn’t have any respect for vets/they dont know or care about the GH history/they redo/rewrite what they even wrote from the week before..

I’m wondering. Even though comments seem to have viewer fatigue with the same cast of character’s love triangles, unfaithfulness, betrayal, baby stories, as their bedrock, and Victor never being knocked off his perch on Y&R and B&B, they generally seem to confirm to the soap formula established over the years.

GH has gone with the Corrinthos family and crime being a major story element, and have downplayed, or certainly not bolstered or populated the legacy families. And if anything seem to bringing in ABC’s nighttime edginess to daytime .

Maybe this is why GH ratings don’t match the other two…it’s not the actors who are great, but that we want more romance and adventure in the afternoon, not murder and crime with no consequences. At least Victor is in jail for the time being.

Yes, “more romance and adventure (clever, entertaining adventure–not the predictable mob-related “adventure”–which is really, always just misadventure.

Interesting. I feel GH made a huge mistake by making Carly and Sonny’s family the core of the show. It’s twisted, viewers need families that they root for.

I hope Days dont have Ciara falling for Chad-that will loose viewers…GH is a mess-a few weeks ago we seen Laura talking to Kevin then she disappeared-what happened to her story?…i hate when you get a little story brewing then it disappears-Laura’s story should be front and center at the moment-not tossed aside so the show can introduce newbies and give them full attention!!!

Jihm, WHAT I SAID! How CAN TPTB toss an icon like Genie aside–we love her and would watch her IF we only SAW her once in a while. We want to see the characters we have invested in and love–we don’t even know/care about half the cast. Who are these people listening to? Do they not realize that their most loyal fans want to see Genie–after all, we are Genie’s age and older. We make up the core of the watchers–yet TPTB insist on stuffing younger characters down our throats. We haven’t any investment in the “anonymous” characters–but we ARE invested in Genie Francis and her beloved character Laura. Besides, given the chance, Genie can act circles around these other actors. She’s paid her dues; she know the ropes. She’s willing to work–and has been for the longest time. TG is no longer around to dictate terms, so what’s their excuse now? GIVE HER A CHANCE!

I see what you’re saying about Ciara, Jimmy, but where is CeeCee?

@4everDays…..That is the same million dollar question that both Timmm and I have asked on the GH threads! We are missing our beloved CeeCee, too! Her month-long absence has been quite mysterious….just like out of a soap opera! I hope all is well with her and that our CeeCeeGirl shall soon again be gracing this website with her words of warmth, wit and wisdom! She is certainly missed!

@4everDAYS…..You’re most welcome for the reply, but OMG! I certainly hope our friend, CeeCee, has not been banned from this website. The last I heard from her—which was a bit over a month ago—her iPad was not correctly working, so I didn’t think that much of her absence…..at first. Now that you have given me food for thought, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it’s just been a really busy time for her, and most importantly, that all is well in terms of life and family. I truly miss trading intelligent observations and cheeky musings with her, so if you are reading this, CeeCeeGirl, just know it’s not the same here without you!!!! As for those whose aim it is to get others dissed and dismissed from this website?…..I would hope that such attempts would not easily succeed!

I hope everything is fine with her…maybe on vacation or what Shay said???

I think its time to get rid of Ron Caravelli. He “Saved” GH but now he seems bored and the stories are flat! I think Genie was a product of Tony. People yell about that but Luke was so much easier to write for. Genie should go back to Hallmark where she was appreciated and had success!

I’m not suprised with GH numbers. In my opinion the show has turned back into the Sunny/Carly show. While I love these characters, it’s not good when other characters are sacrificed to make them look good. Plus they had the hottest couple in daytime (Julexis) and they are tearing them apart. Don’t think a Julian and Nina paring will help,, which I fear is going to happen and the character of Alexis will go by the waste side and not be seen for months. Just like before when all the writers and producers had to be changed. Same old same old General Hospital!!!!!

Y&R storylines are interesting. But I FF through the Hillary/Devon/Neil. I FF through Stitch/Evil Max plot. I watch the Sharon/Nick & Adam/Chelsie story lines.
The Billy Boy recast is a fail. When he comes on I wonder WTF is that until someone says Billy.

I agree with Hillary/Devon/Neil …. seems like they are trying to get past it with Cane revealing the kidnapping secret. Definitely ready for those characters to be involved in something different. As for the Evil Max plot, that I loved!! Thought it was different having the evil kid rather than the evil ex-lover. Also love Sharon …. and I think with Sharon and Adam knowing the secret of the paternity, it could be a possible reunion of some sort coming soon.

Drake, love the Max story. I also really loved Dr Neville talking about the disassociation between cause and effect he saw Max exhibiting. He seemed to be implying that therapy will not be enough and that Max could be a sociopath.

Not surprised by the drop of ratings on GH! Liz Webber/Liason haters can’t blame this on her because Becky Herbst was on hiatus due to contract negotiations! FYI, not all viewers are interested in watching the JaScum show!

OMG sing it sista….I T A with you

‘The JaScum Show’…GOOD ONE…LOL!!!!! And, so very, very true!!!!! Y-e-p.

I love GH but enough if Anna whining and losing control. The psychologist has an agenda also boring. Sam and Jason, Maxie and Lulu with Nathan and Dante storylines are great. Carly and Sonny are my favorite couple. Michael needs to get over Sabrina….she chose Carlo – let her stay missing. Poor Alexis has been turned into her nightmare – enabler, whining, desperate to hang on to that creep Julian. I hope he’s locked up soon. Give Alexis back her balls. Molly and Christina both need new love interests. Molly and her bf have no chemistry. They ruined the Hayden/Nicholas storyline. I would like to see Hayden with hunky Dr. Munro. And Nick and Liz replay.

Lol, Hayden? Scheming, lying, manipulative Hayden with the sweet, gentle, gorgeous Griffin Munro?

No. Could see him with Kiki but I like her wirh Dillon. As far as looks go he and Elizabeth would be stunning. As much as Liz has some pretty nasty faults as well, I like her and would like to see her get back into her art, her boys and finally be in a stable, honest relationship.

Really, Rebecca! Hasn’t Dr Munro been through enough without being saddled with the horrible Hayden? He has paid for his sins! No need for him to wear that hair coat called Hayden!

100 percent agree with you DD!

Days is a total disgrace! Ken Corday should be ashamed of what he’s done to his parents’ show! Higley is a terrible writer and I’m very disappointed in some of the vets who continue with this show when it has become so disrespectful and total garbage. I and many others I know have quit watching because it’s a shell of what it used to be. In all honesty (and it pains me greatly to say this), but I’d rather see it get cancelled and go out with some dignity than continue down this twisted path of destruction.

I’ve only been watching the show for 2 years; but, I’ve about had it too. The story telling is so unbalanced. They start things and then drop them without explanation. I was interested in watching the relationship between Lucas and Adrienne develop. Other stories ramble on without direction, i.e. Serena and the elephant statue, Jen and the pain pills, and now Deimos.

And then there is my pet peeve, that damn park. When they started Abigail’s psychiatric hospitalization, there was a waiting room and a hospital room. Now, the waiting room and therapy room have turn into that same, tired old park set they use for everything else on this show. Really people????????????? I know it’s supposed to be about the characters and the stories; but, television is a visual experience. If you can’t spring for some attempt at realism, maybe it’s time to go back to radio.

I have been watching Gh for over 50yrs and IMHO I never saw such pimping/favoritism NEVER like I have with jasluts//They got all the porno/everyone in PC pimping them/TTIC pimping them and they fail.time and time again….

I agree, Days has become unbearable again. If Ken Corday is dumb enough to hire Dena Higley back then he deserves all the backlash.

I’m perfectly fine with DAYS the way it is, Christie. Maybe YOU shouldn’t will DAYS to be canceled just because YOU don’t like it. It’s not up to YOU to determine if others should lose what they like. YOU have a me, me, me complex that YOU should change.

It’s not up to 4everDays to make personal nasty and inappropriate comments about people at this site, but again and again s/he does, making nasty comments left, right, and center, about anyone who says anything against her Holy Soap!

Michael Fairman politely asked people stop making personal remarks, but 4everDays carries on with impunity.

But Michael, when has asking bullies politely to stop ever worked?

The bullying has been going on 4ever!

If Michael wants this to be a pleasant site where one can freely discuss soap operas without being the subject of personal attack, I think he is going to have to do more than ask the perpetrators politely!

Stop the jasam reunion cause it sucks
and GH ratings will get better!
JaSam have no chemistry!

This fake and forced pairing of Jasam are killing GH , It is making the show unwatchable and their sex scenes are so boring. I found myself cheering for the rooster in the barn,

What?! GH down in ratings?! Quelle surprise! As a “fan” who’s watched for more than 30 years, I saw the destruction coming the minute Craptini wanted to make it OLTL 2.0! Even bringing in characters/actors from said show! Or taking Y/R knock offs as a F you to JFP! Now what we have are mob centric shows (although I LOVE Mo & LW as actors) the Keystone Cops (Dathan) and the Vapid Valley Girls (MaxiLu) Even Michael has been dumbed waaaayyy down! Remember the rape reveal?! That was F’in Shakespeare compared to the Sakey crap! And where the HELL is GF?! She only rears her head once in awhile to give meaningless advice to her idiot children! And as for her children, I think TC is a PHENOMENAL actor but lately he’s been “phoning it in!” And as much as I like RB as an actress, she’s not RELATED to anyone on the show, no anchor except Nik! And what about the other phenomenal actors like BH or JE?! Where the hell are they?! Sorry, I like BM & KeMo but honestly can’t watch the JaSam show!
The late soap blogger RavensBeauty predicted ALL of this before Her untimely death-how ABC/Disney doesn’t give a flying F about GH and specifically brought in Craptini to let it tank! I think the ONLY reason it’s on life support is because they can’t find anything to replace it!

Funny how her words are now ringing true… And what a sad state of affairs for a show I’ve loved for over 30 years but no longer watch on a daily basis! RIP GH!

Great post.
I watch maybe twice a week but have not entirely given up.

What you said!

IT MAKES YOU THINK ABC HAS CANCELING ANOTHER SHOW ON ITS MIND….. GH ……ALREADY DID IN NASHVILLE THIS WEEK!!!!!

Nail on the head, WHEN something better comes along, ABC will officially be out of the soap business!

gee Mobs are us reigns again. Who’d a thunk it. Anna shoots someone in cold blood, Julian hugs and stabs someone, The victim is the bad guy ??? Let me know when there is some good guys . Alexis is getting exactly what she deserves. She has been a mob mouthpiece for years getting the murderers off, now the chickens have come home to roost. Feel for her never. maybe she will be lucky and when she falls off her high horse she will land on her head and something will click. Didn’t she also kill the boy who hit her daughter? This is entertainment, ? Love in the afternoon. Love of murder and violence you mean. I have stopped watching.

VERY, VERY WELL PUT, JANET!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!

I’m right there with ya. Mob stories will be the death of this show.

There is nothing wrong with what is in front of the camera. It is good. It is better than it has been in a long time. Sustained good is what will bring back the audience that lost patience with the hit and miss of the previous two writing regimes.

I – just, HOPE – that the reason DAYS of OUR Lives… is seeing a resurge … in viewership

is ALL because of thee main man… Daniel Cosgrove is back on the scene

i’m still in love

who didn’t love the intensity between Rafe and Aiden… over Hope

Wowza

Actually Days has been getting worse! Too many new characters few care about. Constant rudeness by Kayla toward a man who confessed to murder he did not commit to protect his son. Propping Fynn as the new Dr Tan (who we so wanted to see leave) so no kudos here! Rafe is considered heroic for framiing a man for murder while Steve is well treated like dirt. Sadly the writers cheapen history to promote the wrong. Steve met Ava after he lost his memories, was tortured. But this came after dying for a Brady not an adventure. Ava was insane. Steve is not responsible for Ava. If he is well blame Kayla for running a hosp with a terrible lab with no security! Blame the Brady’s for Steve’s loss of 16 years it was their war more than Steve’s. But no we only blame a man who despite his failings and flaws was visibly trying pretty hard.

not surprised about GH. it’s become too mob oriented. Sonny,Carly,Jasam is what almost killed the show last time. i can’t believe they’ve gone back to this. new Billy is really boring

The soaps always have up and down weeks, but I love GH. It’s had its good and bad stories over the years, but I think its been very gripping lately with some great acting! I’m looking forward to some comic relief soon with the return of Lynn Herring’s Lucy. I also think ABC learned its lesson with the cancellation of AMC and OLTL under the previous regime. They will hold on to their last soap. Its ratings are still respectable as well.

GH will sadly become GH again with all the boringness of the mob and the spencers making cookies and all the other snoozefest ingredients that made it the lowest rated abc show at time of cancellations . Gone are Olbrecht and Carlos and the great Carlivati characters. Gone is all remnants of OLTL. Gone is the audience

“Spencers making cookies”–fantastic summation–perfect way to capsulize GH!

Love Jasam. Hate whining Anna get over it already. Breaking into hospital interrupting last rights. Sickening. Loved Carlos at the end and getting stabbed. Hate all the dropped unfinished stories stories that go forever. Hate Jordan. Need Mac back in the job. Get rid of this D.A.
P

I want GH to stop making characters so despicable and then trying to redeem them. I want them to treat Sonny as the criminal he is, not try to convince us that he is a loving, family man. I want to see well-written drama that does not include back from the dead, mobsters and people spewing blood in the hospital and a heroine trying to keep him from having last rites. There is so much drama that can be done without violent or old-school silly soap staples like baby-swapping. Hire new writers, not the same old ones. Have them write stories like they do on Greys. Finally, stop using wonderful actors so sparingly. I want to see Maura W., Roger H., Rebecca H., Kathleen G. and Jane Elliott more and in stories that showcase their amazing talent.

Excellent ideas. I agree with everything you wrote!

I totally agree with everything you wrote. The one thing I’m eager to see is a romance blossom between Elizabeth and Franco!!
I wish Ron Carlivati would return. The current writing team is doing nothing but scripting General Hospital’s obituary/cancellation!!

I watched GH before Y&R last week. GH is garbage BUT the actors are great! Y&R is horrible BUT CBS is behind them and they have the two strongest soaps. GH needs new writers. I gave the two women some time. They failed to make the show less violent and introduce love stories. They MUCKED up the whole Jason memory story which now is WORSE than the Fluke story and they let a legend like Genie sit in a restaurant with Doc for THREE weeks now with NO follow-up! LAZY! GH, I would hire Tristan Rogers and Jack Wagner full time. Wally Kurth, full time! DONT bring back Sabrina, send Michael away and keep Morgan off the show for a bit. Concentrate on the hospital, the Q’s and also, kill off Julian, he is scum! Sonny is no angel but he and his family are important to the show. Alexis can and should move on!

Not much to argue with there, Timmmbo! Your formula for future GH success sounds just about right!

There are fans who watch the show regardless of how bad it becomes. GH will always have ratings, just not good ratings. I have to agree that if FV is still pimping 1.6 by retweeting their love, it’s time for fans to go quiet. There is no buzz when folks are ambivalent. There are Niz and Friz fans out there, as well as Becky fans who will give her some buzz. But honestly, I think that they have severely damaged the Liason fanbase. I do believe that even if they put Liason together again, many will not return to watch. They’ve done too much damage. They did the same with SB’s Jason. They damaged the character way too much. Then they brought in BM and they had a chance to make a real go of Jason being someone new. They have screwed that up as well. To many, this Jason is even worse than the one who went in the harbor.

It will be interesting to see if this set of IIC will still have jobs. They are about to kill off Lucas. Lucas has a much more deeply rooted history than ho. He was a child on the show, Bobbie fought to keep him from Julian and Cheryl Stansbury. Even tho they didn’t use the character much during his lifetime, it frosts me when they bring in new characters like Carly, Sonny or ho who have no connection to the screen, and then write them as the center of all goings on and all families, just to ignore who is already on screen with long histories. I get that all of these characters have been on the show for a decade and a half. It still doesn’t give them legacy status in my book. They are the reason I no longer watch the show.

They are also going to implode Julexis, and possibly take WDV off screen. I don’t care if they kill off Julian, and have him take his sister and children with him. They have almost no romance on this show, which is a problem that they claimed they’d address and so far have not. They will lose more viewers, tho will the ratings still look as bad this summer in comparison to last summer? This I don’t know. They fired Ron for bad ratings which Jelly have matched. Once word of RC’s firing was out, they still lost viewers with his stories over the summer. Let’s see if they give Jelly a longer shot at correcting things. I just don’t think they have it in them to right this ship at this point in time.

I’m betting with the rumors that WDV, RC, and LLC are out, that they’ll go back to pairing Alexis and Ned. It will also be interesting to see if Billy resigns. For all we know, FV is telling folks that 1.6 are the story because BM isn’t staying and there’s no sense in putting him in another pairing if he’s leaving. Let Jatankin tank, and make ho the victim of Jason’s new thought processes. SMH

@toy1975….These rumored “goings” just go to show the mindset of the GH showrunners. The ratings are bad, so let’s fix them by getting rid of Lucas…and Olivia???? These two characters are pretty much innocuous…especially these days. They are hardly ruining the show….as for Julian? His forcefed character (along with sis Ava….) and fast-track, never-ending sexfest with Alexis is what killed him for a lot of viewers. I cannot say that I will miss him for that latter reason, in particular, and I so wish his oft-delusional spouse would be leaving town with him, but seriously, there are so many useless and superfluous players in Port Charles right now that the producers should be spoiled for choice as to whom they should ax. Definitely Nina, Hayden, Sabs, Jordan, Curtis and even Andre, who does a good job, but we finally have Kevin back….now I know PC has more nuts per capita than the usual metro of its size, but c’mon here….one shrink will do quite nicely, thank you very much! Until GH gets the message that nearly all of the newbies of the past few years have been epic fails and act accordingly, there will be no upside in sight for the ratings. Fact.

I think if they get rid of NV a whole lot of the show will get better. Despite the forced reunion couple, the one thing that I am positive about is that Jelly doesn’t give two sh*ts about the ‘it’ couple. They may get a few emotional words but they are not being written as a love story at all. His memories are of stripper outfits, conjugal visits, easy to be with, and all post 2011. Its like they are complying with the requests from their boss but this isn’t Jaslut 3.0 but more like cardboard and wallpaper meets brainwashed conditioning..I like the fact that these writers are coming out and telling the horrid J/S story via the magazines.
I like that they are admitting they are writing for certain fans; the word agenda is not being uttered but is clearly implied.

The summer should be very interesting; Miller’s contract is coming up for renewal.
I also wouldn’t be surprised if there are changes made regarding FV and NV.
Frankly, those changes need to happen; actors, writers and executives all posturing for position does not make for a good product.
The entire writing team needs to go too.
The fact these writers are admitting to the agenda shouldn’t save their jobs and I don’t think it will in the end.

I think Varni was given his chance for February and May sweeps; he is failing and they know it.
The man was pleading for viewers to tune in on May 9th. The show rated a 2.19; not something to be happy about in the least. The show was not about Jason at all it was about Sam; which is laughable.
The day he remember pulled a 1.8.

Seriously, the show since mid February has been horrible; however, the shows last week were probably the worst I’ve ever seen.
There is nothing to feel good about over at ABC/GH; shame on you all.

Thanks for your reply regarding CeeCee, Shay!

I fear CeeCee was banned just like “Stephen” above is trying to have me banned. I feel I’m within my right to tell someone they are being selfish when they call for a soap to be cancelled just because they no longer like it. Stephen calling me a bully is total BS!

Anyway, Shay, I miss CeeCee and hope we get an answer.

Later.

From what I’ve read so far noone has mentioned the senseless addition of what is obviously supposed to be the new version of Amy Vining, who was GHs busy -body nurse stepsister .

Laura’s ) I can’t stand this attempt at reduxz this intrusiven obnoxious, bold rude crude gossip has no relevance on this show and she will be the last reason for the ending of my 50 year viewership. The past writers tried to do the same thing when they brought on Epiphanyn who was supposed to be Lucille, (who was a senior nurse at GH and Audrey Hardy’s sister). Lucille was described as Gruff but with a heart of gold. The character of Epiphany was waaay over the top gruff , who constantly talked down to, bossed and behaved inappropriately to the Doctors and nurses of GH. Lucille was never insubordinate like Epiphany was, until she was toned down some. Btw this is no knock on Sonya Eddy who is a good actress.

Please excuse typos.

Wally Kurth Talks on His DAYS Daytime Emmy Nomination, His Emotional Scenes, and Remembering John Aniston

During our 2023 year-end honors at Michael Fairman TV, we named Wally Kurth as our pick for Best Overall Performance by an Actor for his double-turn as both Ned Quartermaine on General Hospital and as Justin Kiriakis on Days of our Lives. So, it was absolutely no surprise to us that Wally landed a Daytime Emmy nomination for his riveting work as a grieving Justin in the Supporting Actor category for the upcoming 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

On DAYS, Justin had been put through the emotional wringer, of first, losing his beloved Uncle Vic, played by the late John Aniston, and then finding out that Victor was the supposed biological father to Justin’s son, Alex (Rob Scott Wilson). If you didn’t reach for the hankies during some of Kurth’s work in these scenes, we don’t know what will make you do so.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Wally to get his reaction to his fourth Daytime Emmy nomination in the last six years. Kurth was nominated in the Supporting category in 2018, 2020 and now 2024 and Lead Actor in 2021.

In addition, Wally shares what scenes were on his nominated reel, how John Aniston impacted his work, how he has changed as an actor over the years with a new outlook, and being the only actor out there with two long-running roles on two long-running soaps, and much more. Here’s what Wally had to share below.

Congratulations on your well-deserved nomination. You decided to submit yourself this year for Emmy contention in both Lead Actor for GH and Supporting Actor at DAYS, correct?

WALLY: I did. I thought the DAYS reel was a little more dramatic, much more emotional. I had thought with the way the judging goes that it might be a little bit more, winnable, if you will. I enjoyed and was proud of my work at General Hospital, so it’s all good. I’m thrilled. It’s always nice to be nominated.

What scenes did you ultimately choose for your Supporting Actor reel?

WALLY: I started chronologically, as always, trying to tell a little bit of a story. I actually started with a scene where Justin has to tell Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) that Victor’s (the late John Aniston) plane went down and it was not found. Then, the scene with Bonnie (Judi Evans) where I sort of have to let it all out, and grieve the loss of this man who was practically Justin’s father, but it was his Uncle Vic. We have a little scene talking about Victor, and then there is a short snippet at the funeral where Justin eulogizes Victor. Next, we jump to scene where Justin discovers the letter where Angelica admits that indeed Victor is Alex’s father (Rob Scott Wilson). So then, Justin has to tell Alex, and then I also sort of grieve the fact that I’m no longer his father. Justin basically lost his son. It was very dramatic and very emotional. I was guessing the judges would be like, “Hey! Enough with the crying! Stop, you big baby!” But, they didn’t. They must have thought that it was convincing enough that it felt really truthful at how Justin was upset about these two unfortunate realizations.

You bring up a really good point. I talk to actors all the time about crying on Emmy reels. Sometimes, many feel it might put voters off. But obviously, this time it worked well for you!

WALLY:  What I liked about the crying scenes was that, like in real life, you’re not crying all the time when something bad is happening, right? I think crying happens and it takes you off guard. It happens without you realizing it. These were all moments when Justin was alone, really. Bonnie comes in the room where Justin is just kind of like dealing with it. And then her coming in, opens up Justin and she is there to hold him. I think that often happens in real life. I thought that was correct for the writers to do that, you know, that Justin would break down when he was alone.

Photo: JPI

Did you feel the pressure of wanting to get these scenes when Victor died and at his memorial, just right due to the enormity to it, and to do justice for John Aniston?

WALLY: I allowed myself to use my heartbreak over John Aniston. I loved him. I just sort of allowed his presence for me in the scenes. It was sweet. It was good for me. I’m just thinking about it now and I feel teary-eyed. John was such a sweet man. He led by example, and he really did teach me how to be a professional actor, and he was a mentor. He never told me anything specific, but he was just John, and in the scenes, this was the time for me tell him how I feel.

Photo: JPI

Then, you had the heartbreaking scenes with Rob Scott Wilson where Justin tells Alex he is not his father!

WALLY:  I thought that was just really challenging material. As I get older, I just trust the material, and don’t get ahead of myself. I trust myself with the emotion. Just let it happen if it happens. When I first read it, I kind of imagined what it could look like and then you just let it unfold from there.

You’ve got Robert Gossett (Marshall, GH), A Martinez (Nardo, The Bay), Mike Manning (Caleb, The Bay), and Bryton James (Devon, Y&R) all in your category. Robert has won two Daytime Emmys in a row, last year for Supporting Actor and the year before for Guest Performer.

WALLY:  l love Robert. I worked with the character Marshall on General Hospital, and we had so much fun. He’s a great guy and a really good actor. A Martinez is the best guy ever. I have such admiration for him. Whenever I see him, we always really connect and to be in included with him is great. Bryton James, I don’t know, but I know he beat me in this category in 2020. Mike Manning, I didn’t get the opportunity to know when he was at DAYS as he weren’t in scenes together, but I hear good things about him, too.

When you are judging Emmy reels, what do you look for when you’re voting on a performance?

WALLY: That’s a really great question. And because let’s face it, there’s just a lot of terrific talent in daytime. This year, I judged two categories. I don’t just go with, “Okay, who’s crying the most.” I really try to go with the one who’s touches me the most, who surprises me and moves me. And so, if you go with that, you’re probably going in the right direction. I also think that upfront you do need to kind of give them something in the first couple minutes that shows you know what you’re doing and don’t make it too repetitive.

Who did you first tell you were nominated?

WALLY: My manager, Michael Bruno called me. I was in Chicago with my daughters having a late breakfast and I knew the nominations were going to happen around 11 am Chicago time. I didn’t tell my daughters about what was happening, just in case, I didn’t get nominated. So, when Michael called, I went, “Oh, boy!” I told my daughters who were sitting at the table with me. So, they were the first two people that I could tell, and that was really nice.  We had champagne which was really funny because I bought three little glasses of champagne, and as soon as I bought it, we toasted. They said, “We don’t really like champagne.” So, I ended up drinking all three glasses. (Laughs)

What do you think of Eric Martsolf (Brady), your Day Players Band member, and DAYS co-star getting a Lead Actor nomination?

WALLY: I remember, I was like talking to him and I was like, “Eric, are you going to submit yourself?” And he is like, “I don’t know. I don’t really have anything …” And the next thing you know, he’s nominated. I’m like, “Wow! I guess he found something!” (Laughs) I love Eric. I have such respect for him and his gift, and he works really hard. So, I was very happy for him. I’m glad we weren’t in the same category, however.

How many years now have you been playing Justin on DAYS?

WALLY: I started here 37 years ago in 1987. I was there for four years and then I left. Then, 18 years later, Ken Corday (EP, DAYS) invited me back in 2009 and I’ve been on the show now for 15 years. So, I guess a total of 20 years on and off over the last 37 years. Everyone remembers 1987-1991 … those were big, big years for Justin and Adrienne who back then were a supercouple.

Photo: JPI

Have you determined who you would thank in your acceptance speech if you win this year’s Supporting Actor Daytime Emmy?

WALLY: I feel like this year I kind of have an idea of what I would say. I think I can remember all of that without writing it down. If I had gotten nominated for both shows, I was definitely going to point out and thank the powers-that-be for giving me dual citizenship and how much I appreciate that. I do think that being on both soaps, I will go to my grave believing that it’s made me a better actor. In fact, since I’ve been doing both shows, I’ve been nominated for Daytime Emmys. I’ve become a better actor. I feel like maybe it’s just that I’ve gotten older and wiser, but I feel as though when I go in there to work, I’m really focused and I’m really prepared. I know I pretty much get one shot to get it. We’re in the business of “one takes” now in the soaps.

People are so lucky to even have one enduring role in their careers, but you’ve been able to have two, and they’re completely separate characters on two legacy shows; one which just turned 61, General Hospital, and the other Days of our Lives which will soon celebrate 60 years, as well.

WALLY: I didn’t plan on it. I must have done something right. Back in 2009, Ken called me up and invited me back to DAYS. I really jumped in. I’d been out of work for four or five years. I went back with a whole new attitude about the work, about the genre.  In 2004, when I left General Hospital, I was kind of burnt out. Looking back on it, I didn’t have a good attitude and I was just done. I was kind of tired. New writers come in and sometimes, when you have new writers that look at your character differently, it can be very difficult, because you just know that their passion is not with your character. However, in this case, I’m like, “I’m going to take whatever the writers give me and do the best I can and do my job. Let the writers do their job.” I think the writers also know that I really respect them and I’m not going to complain. I’m not going to tell them what to do and I’m going to stay out of it. They have enough to work out. They have enough to do. I’m going to be the problem solver, not the problem creator. There are enough problem creators. Believe me when I tell you that every time I leave those sets, I’m like, “Thank you. I love it.  See you the next time I see you.” I know how lucky I am to do both shows and to have this opportunity to act at my age and still be sent scripts. I love the art of acting. I’d do it for free. The fact that they’re paying me and I am able to do this and work with these great, wonderful, talented actors every day, it’s kind of mind-blowing.

So, will you be rooting for Wally to take home the gold in this year’s Outstanding Supporting Actor in Daytime Drama Series at the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards on June 7th live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+? Lisa Rinna Would Be Down to Reprise Her Role of Taylor McBride in ‘Melrose Place’ Reboot

When Lisa Rinna departed her popular role of Billie Reed on Days of our Lives back in 1995, her next major role would be a jump to primetime and the soapy Melrose Place.

In 1996, Lisa was introduced as new character Taylor McBride and stayed with the Fox young adult sudser for three seasons. Now in 2024, with the recent reveal that a Melrose Place revival is the works with Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton all on board to reprise their signature roles, would Rinna board the project should it come to fruition?

Speaking with PEOPLE, Rinna expressed, “Well, gosh, I’ve heard about it. I haven’t been approached or anything, but I would love to see what Taylor McBride is up to 25 years later. Wouldn’t that be something?”

Photo: FOX

OG Melrose Place fans know that in story, Taylor moved to the Melrose Place apartment building with her husband Kyle played by Rob Estes. However, Taylor had her eye on Dr. Peter Burns played by former GH star Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco). But, by the time she had moved to the apartment complex, Peter had married tough as nails ad executive, Amanda Woodward, played by Heather Locklear.

Recalling her time on Melrose Place, Rinna added that it, “was one of my greatest and most fun acting experiences, playing Taylor and working with Heather and the whole crew.”  Rinna also noted, “So if they need a Taylor McBride appearance, they know who to call. I’m around.”

The new Melrose Place is in development at CBS Studios. In the premise of the reboot, the Melrose Place residents reunite after the death of one of their friends, “but the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”

Kristian Alfonso Returns to Days of our Lives for Tribute to The Late Bill Hayes

After a few weeks of Days of our Lives fans being upset that Kristian Alfonso (Hope Williams) was not on the first list of initial returns for Doug Williams’ funeral and episodes honoring his portrayer, the late Bill Hayes, comes word that the popular star is back and taping scenes.

Kristian reported to work on the Peacock streaming soap opera on Monday, April 22nd. She shared how important it is for her to be back for this particular return to the show that made her a household name.

“My return is very bittersweet,” Alfonso told TV Insider,  “because it is the end of an era with Bill gone. So to return to Days is very sad. I am appreciative that they came to me to include me in their series of shows honoring Doug and I’m very happy to see everyone, but I’m entering the studio with a heavy heart.”

Photo: JPI

It was back in 1983 that Kristian first debuted as Doug’s daughter, and now 41 years later looking back at it, and her time with Bill Hayes is very emotional for her.

“I remember my first scenes with him/ He was very loving, very welcoming. That he was very talented and an incredible actor and an icon, that all goes without saying, but my personal relationship and my working relationship with Bill, it was home,” expressed Alfonso. “Doing the scenes with Bill, I felt like I was with my dad because there was so much warmth and reality.”

Photo: JPI

Alfonso did express some deep regret, in that she had wanted to work with Bill Hayes during her last appearance on the soap back in 2023, but according to the iconic actress, there was something in the works but it never materialized.  “I’m sad that I did not get the opportunity to do the storyline that Ron (Carlivati, head writer) had planned/ It was great; we returned to Salem to reunite with our families and I would have had father/daughter scenes with Billy. What Ron had written was beautiful and emotional and it was a fantastic story. I was 100 percent for it and the fans would have loved it.”

As for if Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope will be back on-screen together anytime soon, Kristian would only say, “What I will say is don’t give up hope.” Doug’s passing and memorial episodes will stream later this year come late November into December.

So, are you happy to learn that Kristian Alfonso is back taping episodes surrounding Doug’s memorial episodes? Comment below.
