Phoo:A BC

Look who’s headed back to Port Charles?  And, as your favorite daytime dramas have announced already this month major returns, here comes a major one for GH fans.

Fan favorite Rebecca Budig will be returning this summer to General Hospital when she reprises her role as  Hayden,

According to EW.com, who broke the news as to what brings Hayden back to the canvas they could only say, “The brass is staying mum about Hayden’s much-anticipated return, though it seems kind of obvious that she’s ready to introduce her baby to its father!”

As GH viewers know, we last saw Hayden back in September 2017, when she was writing an apology letter to Finn for leaving him at the altar. At the time, Hayden was pregnant, but let Finn (Michael Easton) believe the baby had been lost.

Budig became soap-famous for her role as Greenlee on the defunct All My Children before coming to GH in 2015.  Rebecca is also set to appear in the Bad Boys spin-off, L.A. Finest on Spectrum’s On-Demand platform beginning on May 13th.

So, excited to know Rebecca is reprising her role as Hayden? What will it mean for the love story of Finn and Anna (Finola Hughes)? Comment below

It’s about time!Cant wait for all the plot twists Hayden will generate with her return!Smart move GH!

hi Jeffrie..
I can only hope she will bring Finns baby with her, but not going to happen..

I like Finn with Hayden, they are age appropriate and good together..
Anna and Finn; Anna is a Grandma of a teenager and way too old for Finn..

Hey there, Su! I agree with you (again!).
I’m betting that you agree with me that Robert Scorpio’s scenes with Anna are dynamic and charged with energy–sexual and otherwise. The writers should pair them up again!
And Tristan Rogers (Robert) is filled with humor and just plain entertaining. He’s a great actor, and he knows his character and Anna’s inside out.
The TPTB should give him a CONTRACT already! (And did you see how Genie Francis sparkled in the scene where he asked he to go with him to the Nurses’ Ball?) Scintillating! (Genie and Tristan worked together years ago. Can’t beat those pros–and can’t help but enjoy immensely their improvisational style!
Take care, Su!

Hi Nancy… yeah, gotta love it

^^^ “…Can’t beat those pros–and can’t help but enjoy immensely their improvisational style ”

I was so taken with this meet up @ Kelly. especially just seeing them both smile and LIGHT UP .

I was like WOAH … she should show up … keeping it wink wink innocent. as an escort.. while the game on plan w/Kevin AND Ava is in “full swing”.

I am going along with this story.. BECAUSE it’s “ALL” their is : AND it’s pretty much all the rest of the cast outside of the dullard troupe. God – it’s just like oil and water; oranges and apples .. the dynamics the vibe the essence of what serial is about.

I can barely tolerate watching :

Sonny / Carly / Jason / Sam / Peter / Finn / Franco / Michael. This Shiloh debacle has nosedived Frank vision. they just all stink.

the – ONLY – thing good about this sorry sad Corinthos’ pie is Dr. Neil AND Shiloh themselves. the intrigue is with these two individual. I cannot believe what Kristina the actress must think… because this is garbage.

now that Drew / Kim / Julian are dealing with Oscar demise. I can only hope that @Shelly AND Chris have something cooking in the very near future.

the AGONY of watching Finn / Anna / Robert is wretched. blech . Hayden can’t come soon enough. here’s another actress that must be so beside herself.. with acting so out of character… so doe eyed so coquettish so vamped so afire … FOR Michael Easton… ARE YOU STILL EFFIN KIDDING ME !!!! put us out of our misery.

@Frank Valentini , Shelly AND Chris : if you have ANY value left in your brain sans any imagination !!!!!!

RIGHT A WRONG WRONG WRONG –

Alex is Peter mother
do not accept Finn marriage proposal… Hayden MUST break these two up… perhaps that’s what Robert is here for… to help her thru this… COME ON !!!! it’s like watching Scotty tell Ava when she wouldn’t go out for drinks with him telling Ava, Griffin, has no personality

Finola Hughes is GOLD. oh my god… I will remain vigil

so yeah… it was just heart leap un momento of NOOGET .. morsel of delight … watching Robert ask laura to the Nurses Ball. YUM !!!! have at it laura. yeah, I want that darker edge to Kevin. this just KEEPS THE ENTIRE REST OF THE CAST AFIRE !!!

am anticipating great stuff from Valentin and nuNINA.

so yeah! I will not change my mindset when it comes to Sonny AND Carly… never

there are so many cast and “NOOGETS” to be had

Robert knows Anna better than she knows herself

Anna and Finn are forced and propped continually.

O. My. God!!! YES YES YES!!! This is awesome news!!! She never should have been off the show and i was not too happy when she was written off. She still had lots of story to be told and I am so happy someone realized that. The soap gods have made this viewer very happy today!!!

I’m glad Hayden is coming back…hopefully for Finn. Much as I like Anna, she and Finn just don’t click!

But Anna and Robert Scorpio DO–and they did years ago; chemistry is still there in their easy bantering and humor. Now that’s a dynamic duo! Could watch them the whole hour!

I totally agree about Anna & Robert Nancy! I wish they would get Tristan back on contract!

omg I’ve been waiting for this one forever, I’m so glad she’s coming back, especially since she’s liz sister, I simply love Rebecca Budig, Hayden has so much storyline potential all over the canvas, not just w/ Finn, as for her character putting a dent into Anna and Finn, well I don’t know love Anna a bunch so I’m not rutting for Hayden here, but its going to be fun seeing this play out for sure.

It’s about time!!!!! My thoughts, too! ha ha ha. She’s brilliant. Finn worked better with Hayden. Time to also let go of some characters that aren’t serving the show: Dawn of Day peeps, and couldn’t Lulu have been gone to Paris longer…? Wish they would have recasted her years ago. Anyhow, I think Lulu has lost so much story without Dante and either they recast her (which TPTB won’t do)…or just put her in a coma until Dante comes back – for a few years. She has no purpose and Laura could co-raise Charlotte with Valentine (drama!!!) – and bring back a new-Nicholas. And, I had high hopes for the Valerie recast but the new-Val isn’t working for me. Good news for Hayden, because she was established and has history with Finn and Elizabeth and probably has his child, too. So pleased to hear about Rebecca’s return. Just in time to clean house with Lulu, Val. I’d prefer to see more Lucas. I don’t mean to diss the Spencer’s but if actors make me do something else instead of watching the entire show, it’s either story, or actor/actress or both. Time for Dawn of Day people to go away and I almost would include Willow. I think Michael is quite useless, they need to rebuild and maintain the Quartermaine mansion, we only see it once in a blue moon. If Michael remains, light some fire into his character – he is too mellow – and dull, the actor has potential to get some meaty material and acquire some edge or something!!!! I miss the days when he was with Sabrina (well sort-of) and that Carlos – bring him back!!! Poor Michael just had a f-ck buddy with Sasha – what was that, edge? wild side? nope, it was dull and awkward. We need more Ned, bring back Skye, try to give Monica an important story, too. Maybe a recast Dylan or Brooklyn. We need to fill that mansion up, who wants to see fake Edward and Lila….. that was weird. Hoping Hayden shakes things up in PC.
Rebecca is captivating. Enough now.

i agree with everything!!! Amen!

would be fun if Hayden came back with Nicholas!

Yes I ‘m with that Michael needs a love storey and get back Michael bad ass side he has it in him like him is Sonny and old man Q . the mansion enemy .And find Monies a man to have some fun love her. So hope the family grows soon.

Great news and looking forward to Rebecca’s/Hayden’s return!

Oh good! Wish they’d send Anna on a long trip. I will scream if I hear her mention that Dr. Cabot, or whatever his name is one more time.I never thought I would find Anna so boring, and poor Finn having to put up with her craziness.

it would be nice to move the memory problems and the dod stuff along quicker.

Great, more annoyance. No thanks. Although, I realize that the actress has a following.

I hope this creates some real story for Anna and Finn. This stupid twin induced memory story is so poorly written that I no longer care what was or was not implanted. We know all of Jason’s memories were implanted in Drew, one un-known memory is repeatedly presented for Anna and Alex, but nothing for Kevin and Ryan. Anna’s the only one who cares. And Fiona is worthy of something so much more substantial. Let’s have the twins converge on this subject as soon as Oscar is buried and have Dr. Maddox help them sort through this once and for all so we can all move on. Hopefully, with Hayden’s arrival, greater things are ahead.

Not that excited because she’ll be involved with Finn, who is a total snooze of a character.

“thank you” all I want to hear… watching him “banter” w/Robert is ad nauseum… which just proves Micheal Easton is so out of his league with these two. Robert and Anna.

Finola prefers her character single… so after ALL these years… after the best their was : Duke AND Robert… to see her falling all over herself…. mind numbing jiggle jiggle Britney Spears part 2. what is it about Michael Easton that he cannot make inroads with any one of the cast ???? same can be said for Roger Howarth… Peter does no better… Michael is dead on arrival. this is truly the worst I’ve ever seen with Sam. WOW has she spiraled. Shiloh is supposed to be smitten AND intrigued WITH Sam????

Hayden bored me to no end. YES she needed Tracy propping. Finn and Hayden were their own isolated show… so here’s hoping that she is indeed with child… and that she’s back to simply wrap this up and heave ho the most boring characters OUT OF HERE.

Frank Valentini mindset AND imagination are simply gone

so you don’t like roger, whom i love watching, or michael easton, whom i also love watching. both were on on life to live, but michael was also on gh spinoff Port Charles. whats your feeling for Jackie Zeman and Lisa Locicero? they were both on one life to live before GH. many actors have been on different soaps. frankly im glad we still have soaps where they can be on and welcome any of them, no matter what they were on before.

Finn and Anna Forever !

thank you. Robert can only be on and off due to Tristan ‘s two soaps he’s on. They killed off Duke (more than once). Valentin isnt a good match… i like her with the good doctor and considering she has her ailment, nice to have another doctor in the family. i think finn and robin working together would be good if they could get Kimberly back

I miss Duke to he was great to watch and fun they always lose the best ones.

Easily the best return for any show that I’ve heard since Ari Zucker’s return to DAYS

Maybe they are bringing her back to take half the cast and FV out and off the show! ABC really working hard to get this show off the air I saw thirty minutes of it yesterday and could not understand what anyone was doing ? CBS let MY almost destroy Y&R before they stepped in but how much better it is going to get will see but the working so hard to make characters work on this show that have no history is killing it . I just found out they did kill that kid off Oscar but who cares? Billy Miller needs to go he is sleep walking and TB will always be Carly . Sad!

Not to even mention KM is not even appearing to pretend to act she is their for her paycheck.

Hi Kay : this is neither here nor their

I appreciate candor honesty and celebration of this site AND the 4 remaining soaps. after all… the 4 soaps have shared for decade , how, had it not been for the fan… this genre would not be

??? it’s funny to me because I see this “blog” as giving “FAN” a voice a mindset of our own to enliven this industry. AND yet… I still must laugh, as I don’t think “thee powers that be” really do take in to account our interest and dissatisfaction… Laughing again.. especially about the latter contention

ANY WAY : I truly do think that @ ABC / Disney / General Hospital… have complete disregard for any “fan” input. otherwise… after 4 plus years of ruin… the tenure of Frank Valentini, Shelly AND Chris … would be in question… they keep getting renewed . it staggers me that these three… continue in their position to obliterate any thing General Hospital

I will continue to voice my opposition to any thing Sonny AND Carly. what 18-49 woman demographic , LOL , would find any thing of interest noteworthy and salivate to tune in ? ARE YOU KIDDING ME ? next comes Jason and Sam… they are so unspoken, so dull, so unlively. WAIT – Frank Valentini “thinks” they look good together… they sure can’t script them. Add in ad nauseum their son Michael… can we please see another scene where Carly cups her sons head and tells him how he’s thee most decent person out their.???? BORING
Josslyn may have spotlighted some thing… but she’s so Carly that I am not taken with her. now that Oscar is “gone” will Cameron lap dog. GOD
Finn and Franco are such stand alone character.. who seeks these people out… these characters have no real interactions… do you honestly expect to believe that Anna LOVES Finn . that Liz is truly happy and passionate about living WITH Roger HOwarth, take on Franco demeanor? his facial antics are an implosion unto themselves… his mannerisms are tics … the constant “apologizing” and how he comes across as so NEEDY for Liz. COME ON !
Peter August . DONE . nothing need be said.

so you have the dullard troupe : as the sole focus against all the rest of the sterling cast.

everyone who is not a part of the dullard SHINE. they are fantastic characters who are all intertwined… take… make it REAL. every character commits commands AND is invaluable.

with the exception of Frank Valentini Shelly and Chris notion that this is nothing … without their token bore (s)

Sonny / Carly / Jason / Sam / Finn / Franco / Michael / Peter
have to go…

at this point after all these years : it’s time for ABC / Disney to FIRE VALENTINI along with the writing team of Shelly AND Chris

I want brooding John McBain back-Finn-too much with every patient-i wish i had a doc who knows it all..Hayden-could care less if she was coming or going!!!

Agree with you. Miss McBain and his fiery redhead. Sorry not a fan of Finn with Anna or Hayden. No bueno!

I have to say that I loved John’s acting the role of Silas Clay. Why they would kill him off and create Finn is beyond me.

I liked her character–glad to see she’s returning to GH.

There are three baby reveals to come… Wiley not Willow’s child, Finn’s child – not dead, and Peter, whom I’d swear is ROBERT and Anna’s child. Alex played both of them by robbing them both of their son by planting her horrid memory of sex with Faison and probably took delight in knowing Anna gave the child away. Alex is a rat of a sister, and human being for that matter.

correct me: what is up w/Robert AND the ring ? on one hand he seems very supporting – OF – Finn AND Anna belong. Yet I think there is something going on? that has yet to be revealed? I was “livid” at Finn for barking out @ROBERT and Anna… “alright, THAT’s enough” when Robert came visiting “excited” that he thinks he has way of tracking down Alex.. ie: her ex-husband Dimitri. AND Anna shut him down… etc… etc… AND I am “livid” that , what? if Anna is so accepting that she know that Peter IS NOT HER SON… and will just let it go ????? HUH ? AND she’s so lovey dovey – I will never buy in to Finn. as I’ve posted it’s been decades for Anna… so be it… BUT when she’s had the very best in Robert AND Duke… and I’ve watched her with both… the best chemistry… LOVE LOVE LOVE all around. that it’s gagging reflex whenever they even “communicate” they are so agreeable… argh blech blah…. NO FINN WANTED

so are we to be accepting and tolerant because Anna is of “Alex son” Peter ? yet you think it would be OK if Peter was Robert AND Anna son? I don’t want to buy this either… at this point to see Robert backtrack w/Peter. just doesn’t wanna fly. if Alex is as bad as she is. then that’s on Anna to deal. a cruel heartless memory plant that Anna will deal with… AND the AUDIENCE WILL GIVE AN uproarious standing ovation.

any way … Robert slams out of @Anna… as he’s leaving… “there was a time when we had each other back” that floored me… I want to blame this on the writers AND at Anna mindset that she’s in love with Finn… I think he’s in the know that he will always care for her , as she’s the mother of his daughter Robin… any way… however they are slinging this !!!! i’m so over this cruel joke on Finola hughes…. we want Anna back

she is not Peter Mother
she will break up with Finn , once hayden returns

all that matters…

audience mindset

its just that soaps usually make a character really hate something they end up with. robert protests soooooo much about Peter (“Henrich” as he continually calls him), making remarks about Peters terrible father… so in soap fashion im guessing Robert is Peter’s father. i love michael easton and finola so i welcome their pairing… gives robert something to cause trouble with too. but i also like robert and finn scenes too.

there had been speculation that because nina gives willow so much trouble that she’s probably willows mom… then they revealed that the dod gal was her mom… but the seed of no father makes me wonder if the gal adopted willow… from nina, via ninas mom.

Absolutely—I nevere bought Hayden’s dead baby story….the door for her return was left open at the mention of a baby. It’s typical fare for soaps.
I like the way you think–Faison may have been well-aware Peter was not his son—–another wicked game. I just don’t remember Alex being a villainess on AMC. I guess I was too young?
As far as Wiley—trepidation!! I fear that if Shiloh gets wind of the fact that the baby is his, all hell will break loose. I hope the truth comes out soon ( that Wiley is Michael’s). I am never comfortable when the PTB repeat the baby-switch-scenario time and again.

If you look up Anna Devane on Wikipedia look for the 2001-2003 storyline for her time in Pine Valley and Alex is in there too.. Interesting that William DeVry was on AMC then too. Also mentioned some guy with an amnesia drug and that Anna woke up in the hospital with no memory of her life in Port Charles… Hmmm that could be when GH could say her memory was tampered with.

Thank you, Christy,
I remember when Anna was in PV….loved her…I remember Alex and her son Aiden—I wish the PTB would bring him to PC.
I must have been fourteen /fifteen at the time. Now I’m getting nostalgic—-youth is becoming more and more elusive…sigh!!

Christy
I have read somewhere that Peter will turn out to be Robert’s son, which ie ironic, since Robert can’t stand him. Maybe he can compare notes with Nina when she finds out that Willow whom she doesn’t like, turns out to be her real daughter.

Thank you, soap-gods!! Fingers crossed…..here’s hoping Hayden’s sojourn lasts forever…..
And, end this farce between Anna and Finn—-most mismatched/boring couple on TV. Anna has lost her charm.

So very true. I have never seen a more forced pairing!

Right, Marianne?…..I groan each time I see them together. Anna has fallen from grace for me since TPTB decided to stick her with Finn. ….Her schoolgirl chatter and jejune behavior drag her down to the level of an airhead.

Not a fan of Hayden hope they keep Anna and Finn together. They are good together . Hope the story stays that way.

My thoughts too. Hayden isn’t trustworthy, not to Finn, nor Nicholas, nor Drew for that matter.

She may not be trustworthy, but at least she and Finn have some chemistry together. I like Anna and Finn separately, but not together. They only bring out the worst in each other, which is not what their pairing is meant to do. Anyone who thinks they are good together has got to be watching a different show.

Hayden’s back and the cast of GH just keeps getting better. Maybe next year GH will sweep ALL of the Best Actress nominations.

Hayden Panettiere Remembered: ‘Guiding Light’ and More Stars Mourn Her Loss in Wake of Tragic Death

Hayden Panettiere

Tributes continue to pour in from the entertainment and soap opera community, and especially from former co-stars of Hayden Panettiere, who died on Sunday at the age of 36.

Panetierre was best-known to soap fans for her roles as as a young Lizzie Spaulding on Guiding Light and Sarah Roberts on One Life to Live, and as an adult in ABC’s music city primetime soap opera, Nashville where she starred as Juliette Barnes opposite General Hospital alum, Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky, GH and ex-Avery, Nashville).

As previously reported, Panettiere died on Sunday afternoon, August 16 in a home in Greenville, South Carolina. The coroner released an official statement on Monday, which read in part “no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death. The cause and manner of death remain pending further investigation and the completion of additional studies.” First responders rushed to the scene after a 911 call about a woman who was unresponsive from an overdose and in cardiac arrest.

Now below, check out some of the heartfelt remembrances for the extraordinarily talented, Hayden Panettiere from several of her Guiding Light co-stars and more. Michael Fairman TV will continue to add to the list of tributes throughout the next few days as they become available, as well as keep you updated on any further developments in Panettiere’s death.

Beth Chamberlin (Beth Raines, GL): “Hayden played my daughter for 3 years. She was the most brilliant child actor I’ve ever seen.  The things she could do, the way she could remember 20+ pages of dialogue, day after day.  Even on days where the director would come out between dress and tape and make huge cuts to the scenes, Hayden, never once forgot a line or missed her blocking.  The adults would, but not Hayden.  I felt blessed to work with her. And always perfect in her playing of the scene.”

Connie Britton (Rayna James, Nashville): “This was Hayden. Bursting with brilliance, shining so bright. I have no words for this sad song. Just heartbreak.
I love you girl. Sleep easy now. 💔”

Tina Sloan (Lillian Raines, GL): “Hayden Panettiere was my granddaughter on Guiding Light. She died at 36 and was such a star.”

Rebecca Budig (ex-Michelle Bauer, GL, now Taylor, B&B): “I remember working alongside her..loved her and her family. She and Beth were spectacular together. So sad for her family and those who knew and loved her.”

Karla Mosley: (Dani Dupree, BTG) “This is awful awful news. Blessings to her soul and all who loved her.”

Photo: CBS

Bethany Joy Lenz: (ex-Michelle Bauer, GL) “There is nothing that posting pictures on the internet can do. I avoid it usually in moments like this. But Im here with my head in my hands and I don’t know what else to do in aside from praying for her soul, which I have done and will continue. I’m crushed. I knew the wild little blonde. Was she nine? Ten? I was eighteen. She ran through the Screen Gem studio hallways at 222 E44th St. laughing and playing games in between Guiding Light blocking and camera rehearsals. Long, unruly curls trailing behind her. She knew her lines and everyone else’s. Her intelligence was astonishing. She understood scenes and nuance and human struggle like no child I’d ever seen on camera. And she’d sit with you for a great conversation, then giggle and go play. We’d connect on and off over the years, like the cousin in the family reunion who got famous and life moved her away—but I always felt such joy seeing her when we were lucky enough to cross paths. We’d make a pact to talk soon. Lunch. Dinner. Somewhere we could curl up into a corner—but we never quite made it happen. I mostly stayed up to date through mutual friends.”

Lenz continued, “I don’t understand how this is real. Everything seemed to be turning around. She was coming BACK to life, wasn’t she? It’s too young and there’s still so much more life. And her daughter…. Hayden, you are surround by love. I’m sorry for every moment I didn’t reach out or check in. This can’t be real. These are moments of how I knew you, in glimpses over 26 years. I don’t know how to process this. I am praying for you to know the peace of God now and always.”

Brittany Snow: (ex-Daisy Lemay, GL) “I was lucky enough to play your sister for 3 years. I related to you so much in so many ways. Ways that I never even told you. Your talent was remarkable & so was your determination to be a bold, bright shining light. And you were. Always supportive, curious, funny and brave. You will always be remembered undoubtedly for your undeniable strength and spirit 💔.”

Charles Esten, Hayden Panettiere

Photo: CestenIG

Charles Esten (ex-Deacon Clayborne, Nashville): Patty (Esten’s wife) and I are stunned and saddened at the loss of our dear and beautiful friend Hayden. I will never forget the first time I met her. In a sound stage office in Hollywood, I was finishing up my very first NASHVILLE audition. I had read two Deacon scenes before pulling out my guitar and singing two songs. I said my goodbyes and, hoping I’d done well, went to open the door to leave. Instead of swinging all the way out, the door bumped into somebody. Kinda hard.”

“To my complete surprise, It was Hayden Paniettiere, who – in full Juliette Barnes mode – had been listening with her ear to the door. Instead of looking even a little bit caught, her face instantly bloomed into the most beautiful smile. Eyes twinkling, she clapped her hands and said, “That was so good!!” I can promise you that in that moment, there was nothing in the world I needed to hear more than that. I told her that, along with my HEROES-watching family, I was already a big fan of hers, and that I was grateful for the very kind words. It was her turn to go in, so as I went to leave, I said a jokingly cocky, “See you on the set!”

“I was, of course, many auditions away from landing that incredible role. But when I finally did, and showed up in Nashville to start work, she walked right up to me, pointed in my face, and with that magical grin said, “See you on the set!” From there, we became fast friends, working very hard to play those 2 troubled Nashvillians, but always having fun and laughing a whole lot along the way. She was, of course, extraordinarily talented, infusing her larger-than-life character with all the heart, charisma, humor, whip-smart intelligence, and flat-out magic that were, alongside whatever troubles and pain she carried, a part of her own personal palette. What a great gift it was to act with her, sing with her, and to just be her friend. She was always extremely kind to my family, especially my wife, Patty, who I’m certain she liked even more than me.”

Together, we are heartbroken that she is gone, and praying for her family, and for all those who, like us, will miss and mourn her so dearly. God bless you, Hayden.
Rest In Peace and Light ❤️

Emme Rylan: (ex-Lizzie Spaulding, GL et al.)” So very sad. Rest in peace sweet soul.”

Bryan Craig: (ex-Morgan, GH) posted a text exchange via his Instagram story he had with Panettiere where they laughed about her making fun of his hat. He wrote: “Love you Hayden. Rest in peace Angel.” Craig later added, “Cherish the moments with people you love and care about. As cliche as it sounds. Send that text, get that cup of coffee, tell them you love them and you’re proud of them. You may not get the chance again.”

John Oliver Recaps His ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘General Hospital’ Soap Opera Experience on ‘Last Week Tonight’

Published

on

By

John Oliver

Last Week Tonight host, John Oliver had his soap dreams come true on not one, but two long-running daytime dramas, heralding it his “hot soap summer” on the Sunday night, August 16 edition of his HBO series.

As viewers recall, Oliver’s tour of soap duty began back in March when he made a request and an offer to appear in any daytime drama that would have him with certain conditions, which included: having a ridiculous and over the top character name, a juicy storyline, and a slap.

Both Days of Our Lives and General Hospital came a-calling for Oliver, taking him up on his offer and in short order. Oliver appeared on GH in the role of the head of the WSB named  Z on episodes airing July 2-6, and then on DAYS in the role of Salem’s chief water inspector, Devlin St. John, in episodes that streamed the week of August 11.

Photo: ABC

FIRST STOP, PORT CHARLES

On Last Week Tonight, Oliver shared that both soaps delivered, and then launched into a comedic send-up complete with clips from some of his scenes. Starting with General Hospital.

Oliver said, “To General Hospital’s credit, they met all my requirements and more. First, my character got to arrive by a helicopter flanked by a pair of armed goons. And I got to do a dramatic walk during which I bravely shot in the general direction of a guy who was already on the ground. It’s called being an action star, by the way, unless you’re me or Vin Diesel, you really wouldn’t understand. And then in my next scene, I revealed my true identity. (Oliver played the scene where Josslyn wakes up in a hospital bed with Z standing at the side of her bed introducing himself).

He continued, “As for getting slapped, well, they knocked that and me out of the park too, because it turns out that agent’s mother was not happy with me,” explained Oliver, as they cut to the slap of Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) in the WSB Port Charles bureau office on Z. Oliver screamed, “YES! It has everything! A slap, a dramatic closeup, and me doing a voice so wrong, it is genuinely embarrassing. That was my honest attempt at an American accent. I can’t tell you why it’s southern. I can only tell you I was trying my hardest.”

Photo: ABC

SECOND STOP, SALEM

Then, came John’s wrap-up of his role of Devlin St. John on Days of Our Lives, the town’s chief city water inspector. “It is on Days of Our Lives I appeared in scenes alongside soap legends like Jackée Harry (Paulina) and Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie). And the Days of Our Lives team met my demands in a whole different way because instead of being an international spy boss, they wrote me a character a little more my speed.”

Cut to a clip of Oliver introducing himself as Devlin St. John to Rita. He explains, “I’m the only thing standing between this town and a catastrophic plumbing failure. A literal sewage apocalypse. They made me Salem’s Chief City Water Inspector, which let’s be honest, is perfect casting. If you’re going to bottle my essence and sell it as cologne, it would be called ‘Chief City Water Inspector.'”

DEVLIN’S WIG

The late night host also clarified all the reports, that the wig he wore for his DAYS character he actually brought from home. “Now, as for the hair, I agree, it’s absolutely incredible. It’s been reported this past week that it is a wig I brought to set from home. And while it wasn’t technically from home, we did actually provide that wig, and for good reason,” joked Oliver. “I’ve seen myself act. I knew the hair was going have to do 90% of the work. I’ll be honest, I was going for a healthy John Stamos (ex-Blackie, GH) look, but instead, it appears I ended up looking more like Tina from Bob’s Burgers.”

Photo: Corday Productions

“And if you’re wondering whether I got slapped on Days of Our Lives, not only was I slapped by a man wearing elegant silk pajamas (EJ), I also got to slap him, which felt utterly incredible. But wait, I was also stabbed with a syringe and not once, not even twice, but three different times. And if that wasn’t enough, this happened too.” At that point, Oliver played the clip of Rita using the taser on Devlin.

JOHN OLIVER LEAVES DOOR OPEN FOR A SOAP RETURN

The now late night star-turned-soap actor concluded his segment with, “Are you not entertained? Watching that makes me feel the way I assume Matt Damon felt after seeing the first cut of the Odyssey, both proud and impressed that my body could even do that. Which again, you wouldn’t understand.
