Rena Sofer Returning to General Hospital as Lois Cerullo
It’s been over 26 years since Daytime Emmy winner, Rena Sofer, portrayed her defining soap opera as Lois Cerullo on ABC’s General Hospital. Now in 2023, who says you can’t go home again? Not, Sofer!
In exciting news for longtime GH fans, Rena Sofer is coming back to Port Charles in the role of Lois Cerullo, thick Brooklyn accent and all!
According to PEOPLE, who broke the casting news, Sofer began taping all new-episodes of General Hospital this week, and she will debut on-air sometime in October.

Back in the 90’s, Sofer along with Wally Kurth played GH fan-favorite supercouple of Ned and Lois. As many fans had expected, if there was anytime for Lois to come back to the canvas it would be now, being that Ned is suffering from amnesia and believes he rock star, Eddie Maine. In story, it was 1993, when Lois set eyes on Ned as Eddie when she saw him perform with his band, The Idle Rich. Eventually she became his manager, unaware that he was really the very wealthy Ned Quartermaine.
When GH viewers last saw Sofer as Lois, she left Port Charles in 1997, headed back to Bensonhurst, New York and gave birth to her daughter Brook Lynn, now played in the adult version by Amanda Setton. During her run, Rena took home the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1995.
Many fans were clued into a potential arrival of Sofer to GH, when she exited The Bold and the Beautiful after nine years as Quinn Fuller. The show at that time was bumping her to recurring status, and Rena decided it was time to move.

In real life, Sofer and Wally Kurth were married for two years and share a daughter Rosabel Rosalind.
No word on how long Sofer will be sticking around GH, but her arrival opens up several story possibilities, and definitely will either help or harm Olivia’s (Lisa LoCicero) relationship with Ned/Eddie.
Finally! Kudos to Frank for making this happen. Now, let’s play the beats right. Have Lois interact with those she knew back in the day and explore the never before seen Lois-Olivia connection.
Seeing Rena onscreen with Wally and Jane again will be a treat for longtime viewers.
If she’s sticking around, who do they pair her with romantically?
This is what GH needs. Kurth and Sofer are so much fun to watch in whatever shows they do. I never cared for the Quinn character on B&B as she never seemed grounded. And that exit? All the story to have her be with Carter and soon after… bye bye?
Please, GH, do this right. Having Lois back could really be fun. Hope this is not short term. I’d love for GH to shore up, close out some stories and characters (it’s crowded!) and go old school, and really focus on a core.
I wish she’d come back to bold and beautiful!
Not me! I don’t each B&B. Delighted Lois is coming back. Hope she brings her nails!
Good for her she’s a phenomenal actress She’s was a standout on bold and beautiful unfortunately they only soap I don’t watch is gh but good for her and the audience
This is fantastic news. I know she’s going to be excellent once again!! Bradley Bell wasted her for nine years.
The Devil called this one back when Ned lost his mind. Glad to see it’s finally happening. And while she’s in town, I hope she also gives Granny Tracy a piece of her mind for dragging BrookLynn into whatever this dragonshit is that she’s pulling with Deception.
Going to go out on a limb and make a prediction that Sasha is Lois’ long lost daughter. Ned isn’t her father, but some other non-Q from the 90s.
I couldn’t remember Lois being with anyone other than Ned. And after looking it up, that’s definitely true…at least as far as the real Lois goes.
But apparently the Lois recast had a one night stand in 2004… with Lorenzo Alcazar, of all people.
Obviously Sasha should be older than 19 and it seems unlikely that BrookLynn would not know she had a sister. But Sasha being an Alcazar might be interesting.. since I still am betting a large number of souls that he’s the guy behind Pikeman
Another rumor I read is that she is Nina’s daughter. How many daughters does that woman need?
Hope I like her on GH, I did not on B&B in any way shape or form. I second your idea of giving old Granny a hard time, cant stand even looking at that witch these days. I also am looking forward to seeing she and Olivia, the two gals from Brooklyn go head to head over Ned/ Eddie. Should be lots of fun.
That’s wonderful news. This has been 26 years coming. I loved Rena Sofer as Lois. She was a big character back when I first started watching in 1993-94. When Ned had the double life and was married to Katherine Bell, and Lois found out, and popped out of the cake at Katherine’s birthday party, that was one of the classic moments in GH history. Another favorite moment was Ned and Lois getting married in New York and going to Coney Island, back when they actually still did location shoots.
I’ve been hoping for a long time that Rena would return. She’s always been Lois. I wasn’t a fan when they recast Lesli Kay as Lois in 2004. That was almost as bad as Jill Phelps demoting John Ingle and replacing him with Jed Allan as Edward Quartermaine during that same time period.
Very interested to see how they work Lois into the story with Ned as Eddie Maine, and when she shes how much has changed, but also how much is still the same with The Quartermaines since she’s been gone.
Such wonderful news!
Loved the characters of Eddie and Lois so I hope Rena sticks around for awhile.
Fantastic!
As excited as I am about Rena coming back to GH, I think it is time to cut the size of the cast. There are too many actors not getting enough screen time and storylines that seem extremely long or slow. If Nicholas and Lulu are coming back, I am not sure how we are supposed to b excited about seeing our favorites once a week. Please put us out of our misery with Finn/Elizabeth and the Molly/TJ/surrogate storyline.
Agreed on Finn and Molly. Although they’ve mentioned her, not feeling that Lulu’s return will be soon.
As for Nikolas, Huss is not on contract so we’re not sure how long he’ll be sticking around.
This is excellent news! She is a vibrant actress with ties to many people on the canvas. I hope they have long-term plans for Ms. Sofer.
She is a powerhouse actress and in my view was the only reason to watch the Bold and the Beautiful but are all these daytime vets being hired at GH while the scabs are writing the show?
We’re they all in the striking writers future storylines? It seems like GH has hired some old time daytime writers as scabs and they are reintroducing characters they are familiar with when ABC ruled Daytime. I predict real friction when the striking writers return. The only other explanation is GH may soon be looking at a Days situation and is leaving broadcast tv and getting primed to go to streaming
Im so happy she’s coming back to GH. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is wonderful. GH is so incredibly boring now. the writing is so awful. I’ve been waiting for decades for her to come back, permenently and playced by Sofer.
Please don’t make this a Lois/Ned/Olivia triangle.
Make Lois a sophisticated woman that’s willing to make her own moves.
We can explore Olivia’s & Lois past together but give her storyline outside the Quartermaine’s.
Hell Ava vs Lois or Nina vs Lois SOUNDS GREAT
Also, THANK YOU FRANK

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Emma Wants to Save Anna, Isaiah’s Career is All But Destroyed, Joe Makes an Arrest
The Monday, May 18 episode of General Hospital brought with it a startling discovery, a new reality for one surgeon, a new cop on the scene, and a granddaughter determined to protect her grandmother.
First, Laura (Genie Francis) tells Mac (John J. York) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) that Anna (Finola Hughes) is in worse trouble than she was previously after she had Kevin to check on her while he was in Europe. They head out to update Emma (Braedyn Bruner) and Felicia (Kristina Wagner).
Meanwhile, Emma gets upset over Anna during a discussion with Felicia and breaks Anna’s favorite coffee cup. Emma is overcome with sadness and cries, trying to figure out how she is supposed to be so happy with Gio (Giovanni Mazza), while Anna is locked away somewhere against her own will.

BAD NEWS FOR EMMA
Laura and Mac arrive to talk with Emma and Felicia, and reveal how Anna escaped and made it to the border, but she was now in the custody of the French authorities and they are transferring her to a long term mental illness facility, which freaks out Emma just as Gio arrives. Emma runs into his arms. Laura says at this point, Anna needs a strong advocate and she will make a call on her behalf. (But to who?)
At the Metro Court pool, Curtis (Donnell Turner) is arrested by Detective Joe Fitzpatrick (Jonathan Bennett) after throwing a punch at Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson). Joe takes Curtis to the station where Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) tells Fitzgerald to remove Curtis’ handcuffs. Now inside the interrogation room, Curtis explains that he believes Isaiah left he and Jordan (Tanisha Harper) dead at the side of the road the night of the accident and provoked him.
BROKEN HAND, BROKEN MAN
Curtis just wants to put it all behind him and says he will pay for Isaiah’s medical bills, but Dante informs him, he is trouble and he needs to call a lawyer. So, he calls Jordan. Meanwhile, Isaiah gets looked at while at General Hospital, and his hand is messed up. He comes to learn he will need multiple surgeries not only for broken bones but two tendons were severed in the process. Isaiah realizes his surgical days are numbered possibility forever, if not for a very long time.
JOSSLYN FINDS ANNA’S MESSAGE
While being held hostage, Josslyn (Eden McCoy) tries again to convince Cassius (Ryan Paevey) to set her free. That leads into the two playing cards and Cassius asking Josslyn how she got into the WSB. Josslyn admits her boyfriend was murdered and she killed the person who was the culprit for retribution. She says she put together all the pieces that he did the crime, and now this line of work gives her purpose.
In the shocking final moments, after Cassius leaves for the night, Josslyn heads to the cot in the other part of the holding room and sees a hand-carved message on the wall from Anna that she was there and help captive on October 31, 2025. We fade to black.
So what did you think of the concern Emma showed for Anna, and the performance of Braedyn Bruner? What are your very initial impressions of Jonathan Bennett as Joe Fitzgerald? Which character is annoying you more in the story … Curtis, Jordan, Portia or Isaiah? Weigh-in via the comment section.

GENERAL HOSPITAL Preview: Detective Fitzpatrick is on the Scene, Nina Has to Silence Jack, Josslyn Needs an Escape Route
This week on all-new episodes of General Hospital investigations, protection modes and conflict are the order of the day. In the just released ABC promo for the soap opera entitled “Held Captive,” first Lulu (Alexa Havins) is preparing to flea the country with Rocco (Finn Carr) if necessary including having passports ready and their bags packed.
However, with Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) having full-knowledge of Rocco shooting Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) and his own desire and plan to keep his son safe right in Port Charles, he firmly tells Lulu,“You will make my son a fugitive over my dead body!”
Meanwhile, Josslyn (Eden McCoy) is trying to find a way out of captivity and as she moves her bed she finds a shocking message,“Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) was held captive here. I was taken on 10-31-25.” Suddenly, Josslyn is so panicked and determined. She tells herself she is going to get out of there. Next, we see her smashing a chair into someone’s face! Can she find a way out? Will Cassius (Ryan Paevey) be waiting for her to throw her back in?

GENERAL HOSPITAL SPOILERS
Nina (Cynthia Watros) is getting all jittery again, as it appears she has gone back into Jack Brennan’s (Chris McKenna) hospital room and is ready to inject him with another secret dose of the medication to keep him in a paralytic state, after she accidentally jabbed him during his brawl with Valentin (James Patrick Stuart). As viewers know, that dose of the drug meant to keep Drew in a locked-in state. However, now Jack starts to move!
In addition, General Hospital welcomes Jonathan Bennett to the cast as PCPD Detective Joe Fitzpatrick, and in key moment he is seen at the police station. As to just what Joe will be up to? Well, in an additional newly released clip featuring Bennett in his debut episode on Monday, it’s clear that Detective Fitzpatrick is looking into Curtis (Donnell Turner) and Isaiah’s (Sawandi Wilson) altercation at the Metro Court Pool when he says, “What are the chances Ashford talks his way out of an arrest? ‘General Hospital’s’ Finn Carr and Dominic Zamprogna Deliver the ‘Power Performances of the Week’
The on-screen father/son combo of General Hospital’s Dante and Rocco Falconeri as portrayed by Dominic Zamprogna and Finn Carr were part of high emotional stakes scenes on episodes airing May 11-15.
First, Finn Carr’s Rocco is so guilt-ridden and burdened with the secret that he shot WSB director, Ross Cullum that it’s eating him alive. So much so, that he gets into a heated argument with Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) and Danny (Asher Antonyzyn). Rocco feels so badly that Danny’s father was taken from him for parts unknown by the WSB, all because Jason refused to implicate Rocco as the shooter.
In a heartbreaking scene, Rocco shows up at Britt’s door and lets her know he can’t take it anymore and that the secret he is keeping is tearing him apart. The fear is palpable in Rocco’s eyes. Britt calls Rocco a hero for saving her life and Jason’s and he has to remember that. Britt hugs him and promises that he can come talk to her anytime. In that moment, Rocco felt seen and felt safe.

ROCCO ON THE EDGE
All of the beats mentioned above were played with depth and acting maturity by Finn Carr; that it is so very clear why the writers and the producers are so comfortable giving him the ball in this umbrella story. He steps up to the plate every time and hits it out of the park.
Rocco also overheard his parents fighting over him after Dante figured out that Rocco was responsible for the shooting, and confronted Lulu (Alexa Havins) for withholding the truth from him. As their argument escalated and their relationship was further threatened by the lies, Rocco listened to the whole thing from the outside porch.
Eventually Dante, who had learned the truth by having Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) help him piece together what happened the night Cullum was shot, has a heart to heart with his son. He asks Rocco to tell him in his own words the events that transpired, and promises Rocco, that even though he is the police commissioner, he is going to help him. Rocco goes step by step over how Cullum was about to strike Jason with a weighted-baton and how the gun was loose on the ground and he shot him. Dante says his actions saved Jason and Britt’s life, and that he is going to help his son from here on out. He just wished everyone had come to him sooner, because as the father it’s his job to protect his son, not the other way around.
DANTE COMES TO TERMS
Still later in the week, Dante is visited by Elizabeth, and they discuss how they are going to cover-up any evidence that Rocco was at the hospital the night of the shooting with a hand injury, and that Dante is going to make sure the evidence against Rocco disappears. Something that is a huge disconnect for anyone that knows what a fine and upstanding cop Dante has been through the years, but he is determined to help his son stay safe and to keep him close.
However, Cullum is on the hunt for said evidence, and thinks Danny may have shot him in the back (or does he … and he knows Rocco shot him?). He visits Dante’s office and wants the evidence in the shooting. Meanwhile, bets are we are a few story beats away from Danny learning Rocco shot Cullum.
Throughout all the material given to Finn Carr and Dominic Zamprogna they rose to the occasion. Finn, getting the opportunity to play the often uptight Rocco on the edge, and Dominic, showing us how he can make us feel what Dante is feeling just by watching the emotion and hurt in his eyes. Therefore, Michael Fairman TV names Finn Carr and Dominic Zamprogna our picks for the Power Performances of the Week.
Now below, let us know if you agree with our picks of Finn and Dominic as the standout performances of the week, and if so, what moment really tugged on your heartstrings featuring Rocco and/or Dante via the comment section.
