REPORT: All My Children Cast! Susan Lucci Back for One Episode! David Canary Ongoing Basis!

Well here is some big news coming out of ABC Soaps In Depth this afternoon! They are hearing, through multiple sources and performers associated with the relaunch of All My Children, that Daytime Emmy winners and icons, Susan Lucci (Erica Kane) will be back for the reboot, as will David Canary (Adam/Stuart Chandler)!
However, the report goes on to say that: “As of now Lucci, alas, will appear in just one episode while Canary will be seen on an ongoing basis.”
SID is also hearing that “There are plans to include the character of Tad in storylines, but there’s been no word yet on the show securing a deal with Michael E. Knight.”
There has been no official word from Prospect Park on the status of Lucci, Canary, and Knight as of yet.

On Thursday, nominations were announced in the Outstanding Talk Show category for the upcoming 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo, All My Children) coming off his first-year as co-host of ‘Live” with real-life wife, Kelly Ripa scored his first Talk Show Host nomination along with Ripa who has been nominated previous times.
Joining Mark and Kelly in the race are: Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, The View
Kelly Clarkson, The Kelly Clarkson Show, Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell, Sheryl Underwood, The Talk and
Tamron Hall, Tamron Hall.

As previously reported, The Talk is coming to its end when its upcoming 15th and final season ends in December of 2024.
The 51st annual Daytime Emmys are slated to be broadcast and stream live on CBS and Paramount+ on Friday night, June 7th

Mark Consuelos Celebrates One-Year Anniversary as Co-Host of ‘Live’ Alongside Kelly Ripa
Today, April 17th marks a full-year since Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo, All My Children) took over the co-hosting duties of ‘Live” alongside his wife, and longtime co-host, Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, All My Children).
Consuelos replaced Ryan Seacrest who are six seasons decided to be back on the west coast full-time. For Consuelos, now having the opportunity to work off of Ripa as co-hosts has been something of adjustment for him, but viewers have been eating it up.
Live with Kelly and Mark has remained the No. 1 entertainment talk show on television over the past year, growing 3% in average total viewers to 2.23M per episode. It is also the most-watched daytime talk show in the last year in key demos of women 18-49 and women 25-54. All of this, since the real-life marrieds teamed-up.

Speaking with Deadline, Kelly Ripa shared why the two are gelling on-screen, “I do think that there is something very possibly relatable about our relationship. We have disagreements like a normal couple, and we’re not afraid to let them unfold on the air and in front of America, and I think people find a lot of themselves in that.”
Mark weighed in how he has progressed as a host, and what he could improve at, sharing, “I’d like to get better at my interviewing skills. I’d like to get better at reading a teleprompter…I think I’m getting better at throwing to commercial. The other day in the middle of the show as we go to commercial, my sign off was ‘See you guys around.’ I mean, the show wasn’t over. The most obvious thing to say would be, ‘We’ll be back right after this.’ But I just said, ‘See you around.’ So we went to commercial and one of the producers (goes) ‘What was that?’ I don’t know… So for the next few sign offs, as a joke, I’d say ‘See you around.’ We got a kick out of it.”

Meanwhile, Kelly has given huge props to Mark, “I find Mark utterly compelling, really interesting, super funny, and he’s bold in a way like nobody else. He says what’s on his mind. If he’s thinking it, he says it. I’ve done this a long time and oftentimes people will adjust their natural personalities to pander to what they think the audience wants to hear, and Mark will tell people what he thinks, and he doesn’t care if it’s not a popular opinion. It gives him an edginess that I think is really missing in the landscape today. Everybody’s so afraid to say anything, and Mark is unafraid to say exactly what he’s thinking.”

Susan Lucci Joins the Cast of Jonah Hill’s Movie ‘Outcome’
Look who will be part of the ensemble cast in motion picture and film star Jonah Hill’s new film project! That’s right, none other than Susan Lucci (ex-Erica, All My Children).
According to Deadline, the daytime television icon joins other notables including Laverne Cox and David Spade who have been added to the cast of Outcome. The film stars Keanu Reeves, Matt Bomer (ex-Ben, Guiding Light) and Cameron Diaz.
In Outcome, which is written by, and will be directed by Hill, the dark comedy centers around Reef (played by Reeves), a damaged Hollywood star who must dive into the dark depths of his past to confront his demons and make amends after he is extorted with a mysterious video clip from his past.

Soap fans know that following her iconic run as All My Children’s Erica Kane, Susan went on to be featured in Lifetime’s Devious Maids in the role of Genevieve Delatour. Since her Pine Valley days ended (when AMC was canceled in 2012), Susan has appeared in numerous shows and made numerous appearances. n December of 2023, Lucci was awarded the Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Outcome will debut on Apple and is an Apple Studios production. The film marks the latest collaboration for Hill and Apple Original Films, who are also developing a Grateful Dead biopic with Martin Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions, to be directed by Scorsese, with Hill starring in it and as one of the producers of the project, as well.

What exactly is ‘ongoing basis’ is it recurring… Adam is iconic. AMC without Lucci just feels like it’d be a different animal. And as for Tad, I hope the get MEK because uh no one else can be Tad.
Nope! I can’t imagine anybody else playing Erica, Adam, or Tad. I don’t think a new actor would be accepted in any of those roles.

I think continuity is essential for the reboot. AMC started out as a show about families – the Martins, the Kanes, the Englishs… As a long time fan, I feel it would be most effective to start the Prospect Park Internet version with a similar framework for the story telling.

I agree Tina, and I sure hope they can lure Michael E. Knight to return, as Pine Valley will not be the same without him.
Makes sense. I think Tad and Adam are the must have characters of AMC. Erica was legendary but had become a shell of her former self by the end of the series. The show does need new blood but the Martins and Chandlers are needed on the canvas. Erica Cane, not so much.
That’s realistic. Susan Lucci owes her career to AMC so it helps that she comes back to “kick it off”. Why she would stay when she has a great career outside of it would be anyone’s guess. The cast still seems disjointed and I wonder how they are going to tell the stories, let alone resolve the cliffhanger they left off with.
Susan…. I owe her gratitude…. SHE OWES daytime her star.

Something doesnt feel right about Erica only being in one episode!! I am so disappointed they could get her to atleast come back on recurring! As I don understand the Marc Cherry project was already in the works.
David C “on going” is fine. The man wanted to retire awhile back– so if Adam and Stuart make appearances here and there that is ok. The show needs DC in any form as it’s ushered to the web!

Anyword on Julia Barr???? If Erica isn’t going to be there— Brooke should be one of the leading Dames on the show. Plus it ended with the Brooke and Adam going back to the mansion. So she is a MUST at this point!!!!!!! And recasting LAURA shoudl be in the works as well

Adam’s twin, Stuart died! His widow, Marian went loony, & had to be committed! How long have YOU been watching? So, unless they’re doing ghost stories again, don’t think we’ll be seeing Stuart any time soon! Speaking of dead, does ANYONE know how Tad died in the reboot? I can’t believe they killed him off! We’ll miss you, Michael!
Michael has been busy with a hit play, so perhaps when that is finished he will come onboard.
Susan needs to at least come back recurring and no I can not imagine AMC with out MEK! But I do not mean to sound ungrateful for the ones who have signed. I am very excited to see the reboot!

Perhaps more then any other daytime drama and performer, Susan Lucci’s beautiful, vain, strong and deeply flawed Erica Kane and All My Children are a matched set. I have trouble thinking of one without the other.
I thought one of the reasons David Canary left was an inability to memorize all the dialog as well as not wanting to relocate to Los Angeles. I hope the actor thrives in new format and the show is very successful!

EEEEEEK well these sources so far have turned out to be true.. Have to have Michael Knight.
No one else could play any of these three iconic roles. Some characters can easily be replaced but not when it comes to Susan, David, and Micheal They are the one and only Erica,Adam,and Tad. Id rather the charcters be killed off or not used than see them replace. If they only agree to appear in a few shows on occasion that is still better than nothing or recasting.
If Adam is there, can Brooke be far behind? Please bring Julia Barr back. I want some real “Old School” Pine Valley! If Susan is going to appear in one episode, perhaps she will agree to more as her schedule permits. Let’s not forget, she had choices to make in her own career, after ABC dumped the show.
A reduced SL, recurring MEK and occasional DC works for me! I hope David brings JR out of the coma (rumored in the full SID article) for AJ’s sake! 🙂

If Susan is indeed under contract to ‘Devious Maids’ then perhaps that simply could not be worked around. Everyone needs to remember that she could always come back at any time and in any form.
Thrilled that David Canary might return even on recurring. He’d previously retired so getting him back at all is wonderful. Hopefully Brooke is back, too.
I expect Michael Knight to come back. Debbi Morgan hinted that he would and they already have Cady.
Well, I uderstand that Susan L. has a bunch of different projects going on… and ABC wasn’t the nicest to her…
but hopefully she will be back for more.

I dont understand…Lucci for one episode, is that a teaser?? I thought David retired from the show when it was still on ABC? I see why they are putting all the high schoolers on the new reboot if the show is indeed set 5 years after JR shot someone (or more), and I can see how it would be easier to replace JR with somone who looks 5 years older, and hey if he can get out of his current contract sometime, we will all be ready to see the JR that we have grown to love/hate! I really hope that Susan wont just be on for one show… that would mean that she was not shot then? If the show is 5 years after, or maybe since they say JR will be in a coma he will be remembering who he shot and maybe it was Erica…. oh boy…I will sure miss La Kane! I hope I am wrong and she will stay! And I hope her daughters Kendall and Bianca will be on too.!
Nope! No new actor can fill the shoes of Susan, David, or Michael. Their characters have been around for decades. I don’t think fans would accept replacing a long-time character with a new face!
I am sure they will leave it open for Susan Lucci to return as her schedule permits. As for Tad Martin, I like Michael E. Knight of course, but there have been Four actors portraying Tad at different stages. In the 1990’s, albeit for a few months, Tad was portrayed by another actor. Prior to Michael E. Knight, Tad was played by teenaged
actors. Tad would now have to be an actor of around fifty or so, a youngish fifty if
you will ~ at this point, I’m not exactly sure how old Tad is supposed to be. But rather than “write Tad out” I think a recast would work in better, that’s just my opinion.

No reason why Susan couldn’t do more than one episode. The show is taping for just 5 weeks. I can see if she was in the middle of taping for Devious Maids that she couldn’t work it out. Maybe she will come back after the second 5 weeks. Rumor has it that Devious Maids is very expensive to produce and if it doesn’t do well they may not renew it (even though it has not even aired yet).
Susan could very well be under contacts that will not allow for her to appear in other programs etc etc.
michael e knight will be back sooner rather than later – just read the article here on michael fairmans site – so glad that david canary will return but i am not excited at all about susan lucci……………..jmo
I have no doubt that Michael Knight and Susan Lucci will be back. They have been with AMC forever. I am so happy that David Canary is coming back, he is a wonderful actor. I think my biggest concern is all the teenagers being added. There is nothing as boring as teenage story lines. Although, I really liked Colby .
Well if David Canary is coming back where the hell is Julia Barr (Brooke)? I’m so sick of TPTB streamlining her! she is far more a better actress then Susan Lucci and as the sage left off, (Adam has just asked Brooke to marry him)
Julia should be available for cheap; she hasn’t exactly been in demand since her AMC days despite being a very good actress. Adam /Stewart is a recurring role; people have to think bang for the buck too since it is online. Right or wrong, Susan Lucci brings the publicity. Julia Barr would just be of interest to die hard fans. Look at Devious Maids there are many prime time stars but Lucci holds her own – maybe it is longevity because though Grant Show has been on a monster hit with Melrose Place he isn’t getting the billing of Lucci.
Would much rather see Julia Barr return than Susan Lucci. And if Bianca is returning, please bring back Christina Bennett Lind — Eden Riegel’s voice grated on me.
I think getting Susan for one episode–maybe JR shot her?? That’s a way to wrap that story. And David C is awesome but may not want a big gig. Having him is awesome but I think they are going to skew it younger. The casting calls have suggested they are aging the kids to teens and young adults. I suspect it will be heavy on teen drama. With just a touch of Zack Slater hotness to get the current fans back in on it. As for Michael, he is Tad for sure but if he won’t play ball they could replace him with Rick from GL or maybe another like-type. It would take a bit to adjust but we would.
Frankly, as I understand it, all of this boils down to contract negotiations: I personally think that it would be a major mistake not to have Susan Lucci as Erica Kane on a regular basis; and there should not only be Julia Barr and David Canary on the show regularly ideally but as many characters as possible that are connected family-wise to the two. As for MEK, he recently went into a great deal of detail in an interview as to his loyalty to AMC and his inability to envision Pine Valley without Tad Martin: So, obviously, MEK is waiting for the bucks, so to speak, BIG ONES, that is! (…and I for one hope he gets it!!!)
Have you people forgotten over the years all the stars would have big absences, (doing films or plays or just vacations}. So how is this going to be any different? They will bring in the big guns in the beginning and as new story lines evolve around other players we will be just as hooked as before. I will take anything they give me just as long as I’m in Pine Valley and most of my family is still there making me cry or mad, whichever. I know with all the complaining you will do the same.
I am very disappointed Susan Lucci didn’t agree to recurring though I am not sure what commitments she has with Devious Maids and Deadly Affairs. Surely those shows can see the benefit of Lucci being on AMC again (and I hope Propsect Park can see the benefit of Lucci – they say they want young and fresh and many anti Erica types will say they don’t need her but if they have David Canary recurring and Opan and even Tad or Angie – these characters are all well over 40 if not 50. I can’t believe Lucci in only one show that is so so said and tragic . they cannot recast though it might get tonnes of media attention. So I have the solution if the problem is Devious Maids and Deadly affairs.
Erica dies in the hands of Jack. There is an amazing funeral and a museum built in Erica’s memory and then the history of AMC cna be introduced through the rich tapestry of characters. The show goes on. At some point hopefully soon Lucci can do more shows She comes back and it is revealed there was a prison break out and it was Jane who sought revenge when she realized she was being played and taking Erica’splace for stabbing DAvid. It was Jane trying to let Jackson and the girls (Bianca and Kendall know it was her and not Erica dying or shot but they tell her to save her strength before she dies. Erica comes back at her memorial or perhaps when her daughters need her. AMC please get back Erica Kane she is history. She is iconic. She is AMC. Surely something can be done.

After hearing this story and sleeping on it. It will seem like part of AMC is missing if Lucci isn’t on the show. I know there were rumours of another actress playing Erica Kane but I think that would lead to a revolt – maybe tonnes of media attention though like the “new” Coke then went back to classic. I was going to blame Lucci for not coming back assuming PP wanted to hire her – why wouldn’t they if they hired other “mature” characters. But as some pointed out she has at least two other gigs – Deadly Affairs and Devious Maids which for most people would be plenty. I don’t think she has time to do more Army Wives or Hot In Cleveland so AMC could be a stretch.
I would love to see David Canary and Julia Barr return, plus MEK if he wants to return. Otherwise, I’m fine with MEK and Ms. Lucci continuing whatever projects they prefer.
Since I’m not a lifetime AMC fan, their absence or possible replacement would not be sacrilege to me. I do understand the feelings of the long term fans though. 🙂

I’ve got it! I’ve got it! Erica was last seen running after Jackson after he told her a la Rhett Butler that he didn’t “give a damn” – Erica jumps into her car after Jackson but is in a terrible car accident. She needs cosmetic surgery! We see “Erica” Kane in the hospital, but her family and friends are told she may not look the same anymore since her injuries required extensive plastic surgeries. After several weeks, the bandages are removed and Erica Kane is now played by…….
MORGAN FAIRCHILD! She doesn’t remember anyone…..but this isn’t really a problem since half the cast is gone…..and she meets a strange Priest in the Hospital who tells her that she used to be a real Bitch.

Erica was the back bone of the show. They are smart to get Susan Lucci back even for one episode to lure us fans to watch with the hope that the story lines hook us from day one. The character of Erica will hand the reigns over to the rest of the cast and of course she would be invited back as often as her schedule permits depending on what her salary demands are
I think everyone needs to stop being so possessive of this show and just let it be. Certainly we can want certain story lines but we can not control the actors, their current commitments elsewhere and the contract negotiations. Prospect Park I’m sure does not have an endless supply of money and we have to respect that not all actors can be ‘bought’ even if they wanted to come back. As well it is to only be a half hour show so there isn’t enough time to warrant every character return along with the new fresh characters needed to sustain the much needed younger demographic.
Well l’m sorry but…l think a opinion is not being possessive of these actors and actresses lives…Everyone is just hoping to see some familiar faces from what l see…And l totally agree….They were the backbone of AMC!! That is just my opinion!!!
Well said Jim ~ of course I was kidding about the Erica Kane recast – you are right we are all a little possessive of the show. What will be, will be. I am willing to give the new show a chance, and will probably purchase Hulu Plus because I refuse to watch it from my home computer, LoL – if I can stream it on my TV as I do other things that will be fine. Watching TV nowadays is a whole different experience from years ago – and if the show does see some recasts, that is fine with me actually because, well, that’s life.

I am glad that the charecter of Adam will be back on .I f susan only wants to play Erica for one time thats ok with me she was getting to old for the show anyway.If the showed had protrayed her as the grandmother that she was surppose to be she would have fit the show.Instead they had her running around like she was still in her 20s with dresses for women that age one strap clothes . She has always had ugly looking legs. writers should have keep them covered at A LL times.She probably don’t want to play the part that fits her age which is a good reason enough not to want to come back full time.Like I said she to old to be playing a sexy role. get some one who can play a woman in her mid 60s with grown children and grandchildren.
To some extent, Ruth, I agree with what you are saying – I don’t know by now how “old” the character of Erica Kane is supposed to be, she has grown daughters and they have children but no one calls Erica “hi grandma” – Susan Lucci played the role well for forty one years, but although thanks to modern medical procedures she doesn’t quite look her age Erica is not 35 anymore and I do think the characters should “act their age” to to speak and having her running around in skimpy outfits designed for the contours of a young gal gets to be a little absurd after a while. So, I don’t know how much more mileage they can get out of Erica Kane unless they agree that Erica should mature and start acting her age, particularly if they plan to forward the show’s characters and town FIVE years into the future.
Well Erica can certainly maintain a well heeled more mature and still stunning much smarter person with a lot of knowledge to lay on the problematic people of Pine Valley
If this new show wants to succeed, they need Erica, Tad And Adam. Adam could have an occasional roll, but Susan and Michael are a MUST. I really hope they work out all their differences with these people or this show doesn’t stand a chance. They are the backbone of the show and are truly wanted and needed.
Come on Susan, David and Michael….You are the backbone of AMC! We need you!
Oh come on folks, Erica Kane is well Erica Kane. What fun to have a forever young character. Let someone else play the grandma and let Erica Kane be gosh darn it. She is a bit fantasy, bit fetish, bit myster and bit hell on wheels. If AMC wanted a 66 year old matrony figure then they should go hire a Ruth Martin or Mona Kane type.
Come on people. Time in soaps is malleable and soap fans are forgiving. We’ve seen a single character age overnight while all the others remained their same age. How many times did we hear “the role of Wally McFaddon (or Phil Brent) will now be played by…” and we kept watching. Certainly our favorites who earned their places in our hearts should not be recast. Lets keep in mind that Agnes Nixon is guiding these shows back into existence and lets keep an open mind with regard to how old people are and whats appropriate for them to do.
I can’t imagine that susan lucci, of all people will not return it will not be the same without her that is for sure. I remember watching her when she where in high school or college or of the two that’s how long it where and I where 8 years of age.
I’ve been a loyal fan every since then.
I can’t enjoy it without Erica and the previous actors . Please negotiate to bring them back! Thanks!!
They need to bring Erica back for good, she is AMC. Heard Tad will be back but not the original actor. Wish they’d do the series on a daily basis, twice a week isn’t near enough.
