Days Of Our Lives
REPORT: Melissa Reeves Will Be Returning to DAYS For Christmas Episode
Over the weekend, soap opera fan Kelli Gustafson revealed on Twitter that at a fan event she attended featuring Scott and Melissa Reeves, that she received some interesting intel.
According to her tweet, Melissa Reeves will be returning to Days of our Lives in her signature role of Jennifer Horton Deveraux for Christmas. What we don’t know is if Reeves will be just making a visit, or be back in Salem more long-term. Gustafson shared that Melissa confirmed it herself.
As DAYS fans know, Cady McClain stepped into the role of Jennifer, after Reeves chose not to come back from Nashville during the Covid-19 pandemic and stay with her family, instead of heading to L.A. to film days and flying back and forth to Tennessee.
McClain took home a Daytime Emmy this past June for her work in the Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series category.
So, are you hoping this proves true and Melissa comes back to Days for Christmas if even for a short visit? Comment below.
Honestly, I was hoping she would never come back. The backstage drama isn’t necessary and lord knows she brings a lot of it. They should have just kept Cady full-time
My thoughts exactly!
Me three! I lovvvvve Cady McClain and she was perfect in the role.
Come on! How are we supposed to be happy about this? She wanted an extend leave for matters that are totally hers and I respect that. But the fans deserve a “Jennifer” that will be there for them. Cady did a great job in the role. So unless Melissa is coming back full-time, stay gone and bring Cady back. The reason they have for “Jennifer” being in Boston is sooo awful it hurts credibility.
I certainly hope that Melissa comes back for a much longer stay. She is a mainstay of the Horton family and is dearly missed.
I wish Melissa would come back as well. She played a great character on the show, and I just could not seem to care for Cady McClain in the part. I’ve watched the show almost from day one, and “Missy” was such a fixture to me. She was also wonderful to meet in person and great to talk to.
Ugh.
Frankly, I’d prefer Cady McClain to take over the role full time.
Should be Cady McClain full-time.
It wasn’t a fan event. That is misinformation reported by another Soap e-publication that made assumptions.
I am so torn on who should be playing Jennifer. I truly am. I grew up with Missy as Jennifer. Over the decades, she truly has done some great work and her chemistry opposite Ashford is undeniable. However, I don’t support her likes, tweets, etc. I also loved Cady McClain’s work as Jennifer. As a fan of Cady’s from her ATWT years, I knew she wouldn’t disappoint and she certainly didn’t. Her Jennifer had a different energy, her scenes opposite Ashford and Koslow strong, with Emmy voters agreeing by awarding her the statue. I love Jennifer Rose. I miss her in Salem. However, I remain undecided on who should be playing her.
I hope it’s short-term for Melissa. How can Jennifer be out of town THAT LONG dealing with her mother’s estate, etc (in a soap opera)… Cady should have been named to return within three months of her departure, in soap land nothing takes that long. For Jennifer to be gone from…. what February/March to December, is SO LONG. What the hell? I hope this is short term for Melissa Reeves, to tie up her time at DAYS and retire. That’s my hope. I think the show should have continued with Cady in the role and have Jennifer return months ago, perhaps, if this is a short run for Melissa, hopefully Emmy award winning Cady McClain can return post Christmas. I’m not pleased with the long absence of Jennifer Horton, I felt Cady was willing and waiting in the wings to continue her stories with Jack and her children. Wish JJ was back in story, too.
I’m excited to have her back! She’s a Horton and we need the family to be together.
THATS THE BEST NEWS IVE EVER HEARD!!!!
Yay, so glad she is coming back. She is one of my favorites. She was missed. Didn’t care for the substitute one.
I’m a little surprised to find so many people agree with me that she should just have stayed gone. I preferred Cady McClain’s version of the character–who I do think should be on the canvas, definitely. I was surprised they tried recasting (even temporarily), surprised it worked out as well as it did–but it did, for me at least, and I wish they’d stick with the new direction.
Michael(not Fairman),
I also preferred Cady as Jennifer and also loved her as Nina on GH and every other role she has played. Enough said.
Cady never played Nina Reeves on GH. Michelle Stafford originated the role, and it was rumoured that Cady McClain would be the recast, however the role went to the fabulous Cynthia Watros. Cady McClain deserved to have permanently taken over the role of Jennifer Horton. She did a fab job on DAYS and won an Emmy for it, too! 🙂
Jeremy,
OMG, I knew that and my only excuse is maybe it was wishful thinking or old-timers desease. Thanks for pointing it out.
Sure thing.
she sure has “changed” she looks like ex Amanda Barrington, @General Hospital : Anne Jeffreys
Please just put it “ALL” to rest. Stay Home
Thanks Patrick, you saved me from racking my brain any further.I kept wondering who she reminded me of and you came up with the answer. I loved Anne Jeffreys in the movies and other TV. Did not see her on GH. You are probably too young to remember Topper in the Fifty’s. Loved the dog!
Couldn’t care less at this point.
I loved the energy that Cady McClain had with Jack — just seemed more of a ‘woman’ or a real adult than Melissa Reeves. I’m really not looking forward to them going back because it means Cady cannot come back again? Ugh! I wish they would also recast Hope. Keep the characters moving on!
No more recasts under the ReRon regime. After fake “Eve” and the bug eyed abomination which had ZERO resemblance to Diana Colville, they don’t get to bring back any long term absent characters.
Temp Jen was at least tolerable. As was the “NuClaire” (despite being literally older than her own mother should be). And – in typical ReRon fashion, those are the recasts they DIDN’T keep around. Go figure.
Looking forward to the REAL Kristen’s return on the Peacock thing…. NOT looking forward to the Sonny recast, for all the reasons mentioned above.
Recast Hope?? Hell forbid that ever happens.
Melissa Missy Brennan is back that’s such great news plus they need to bring back actor Michael Weiss to reprise his role of Mike Horton.

On Friday, reports surfaced that Steve Kent, Senior Executive Vice President of Programming at Sony Pictures Television, is no longer with the company and overseeing the Sony soap operas, Days of our Lives and The Young and the Restless.
According to Soap Opera Digest, a set side source reported that Kent’s last day was last Friday, April 12th, which was one day after what would have been his final appearance in his Sony VP role at the Days of our Lives 15,000th episode on set celebration.
