Ah, as we previously reported all the year-end accolades are beginning to pour in, and here is the latest that should please many a primetime soap fan!   The knock-em-sock-em-stab-everyone-in-the-back a minute soap, Revenge was named the series with the Best Cliffhanger of 2012 by EW.com this morning!

EW.com chose Revenge’s May season finale episode titled, “Reckoning” as the number one cliffhanger stating:  “In EW.com’s annual Season Finale Awards last May, Victoria Grayson (Madeleine Stowe) stepping onto a plane that then blew up earned the show the Best (Presumed) Death crown — and it was just one of the cliffhangers in the soap’s first season ender: Emily also discovered that her mother is still alive, Lydia Davis and Charlotte could have also died (in that plane crash and from an overdose, respectively), and pregnant Fauxmanda returned to once again thwart Emily’s chances with Jack.”

Also making the top five were the season finales of Once Upon A Time, Game Of Thrones, Breaking Bad and Grey’s Anatomy

So, do you agree with EW.com’s primetime cliffhanger choices?  Let us know!

Sorry Lia and Paul, but as much as I enjoy Dallas….The episode of Revenge that was named best cliffhanger is deserving of this title….It was a jaw dropper and a real game changer. Season 2 has delivered the same punch so far as well.

revenge’s finale was completely anti climactic. One too many pills? The protagonist’s mother who was never mentioned is alive? A plane crash cliffhanger? Do the idjets from ew not know any soap opera tropes? the idjets of ew have very horrid tastes when it comes to the crap that hollywood has churned. this award for revenge as “best cliffhanger” is mildly dumb compared to some of their “best” films. the idjets of ew named “the cabin in the woods” as a future cult favorite. what the heck?! that film cast amy acker who is a white actress to portray Asian… Read more »

The major failure of revenge’s cliffhanger was that victoria is THE villain of the soap. emily’s scheming is abt revenge against victoria. Therefore there would be no “revenge” w/o victoria and thus the plane crash cliffhanger was stupid. the ew “writers” have no idea what makes a good soap and what makes a good cult favorite. Do they get paid specifically to butter up the egos of some hollywood “artists” bec they seem to really favor josh whedon’s projects. They named “cabin in the woods” a cult favorite despite its offensive whitewashing w/c is a pracitce that josh whedon likes… Read more »

Peter Bergman Signs 5-Year Deal with The Young and the Restless

Some of the hottest news on Daytime Emmy night was the reveal that 23-time Daytime Emmy nominee, and 3-time Emmy-winner, Peter Bergman is staying put at The Young and the Restless for quite some time to come, in fact, at least five more years.

Bergman, who plays Genoa City staple, Jack Abbott, has inked a new five-year deal to stay with the CBS daytime drama series, which is a significant contract in the world of soaps.  The usual contact for actors is somewhere between one and four years, with thirteen-week or twenty-six-week cycle, if the show were to not pick up an actors option.

While Y&R has been renewed thus far through the 2024 TV season, it would seem this move to ensure Bergman is sticking around as the show moves past its 50th year on the air, is a vote of confidence by Sony Pictures Television and CBS that the top-rated daytime drama will live on.

Deadline first reported the contract news.  Peter joined Y&R back in 1989, after first successful soap foray on All My Children as Dr, Cliff Warner.

So, what do you think about Peter signing on for five more years at Y&R? Comment below.

Lamon Archey and Sal Stowers Exit Days of our Lives

Coming up on Days of our Lives, both Lani and Eli Grant will be written off the canvas to facilitate the departures of Lamon Archey (Eli) and Sal Stowers (Lani).

According to the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest on newsstands now, Archey who stepped into the role in 2017, has made the decision to leave the long-running NBC soap opera, and will last air the week of July 4.

As for Stowers, she will last air on Friday, July 1st, and given her current storyline, it looks like Lani, who has confessed to murdering TJ (William Christian), will either be sent to prison, or will exit Salem with Eli.

This would not be the first-time that Stowers has departed DAYS.  After her debut in 2015, she was off the Salem canvas for a six-month break in 2016, before returning to the show through 2022.
