Roger Howarth to Make ‘Extremely Memorable Debut’ When He Returns to General Hospital
May will bring with it the return of fan favorite and Daytime Emmy Winner, Roger Howarth back to General Hospital. The popular star was written off as Franco Baldwin when the character was shot in a tussle with a gun by Peter August (Wes Ramsey), shocking many viewers that Howarth was exiting the show.
Once that played out on our screens, it was also noted that Roger would be back in a few months to GH as he was still under contract.
Over the last several weeks, there were rumors and reports on just who Howarth would be playing in when he returns to Port Charles. Many said it would be Todd Manning, but then another report shut that down. Many feel he could still somehow be a very much alive Franco, but how? Others, feel he will end up being Drew Cain, since he played a version of the character, and still others feel he will be a new or resurrected character.
Now, in the latest addition of Soap Opera Digest on newsstands now, GH head scribes, Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor previewed what’s ahead on the ABC soap opera for May Sweeps.
When teasing Howarth’s return, the writers shared: “Roger Howarth will make an extremely memorable debut; he will bare his face and perhaps more when he returns this May.”

I think he’s Franco. Not sure he’ll know who he is or the audience will even know at first but I don’t see how he can return to the screen without having Franco’s face. He returns in 2-3 weeks, Elizabeth hasn’t even learned that it was Peter that “killed” Franco, Jason goes on the run and is still accused of his murder, Anna and Valentin are still trying to prove Peter is the culprit, so if they writers really expect us to buy Roger waltzing into town with no connection this story and people are interacting with him and not saying “OMG Franco!?” then they must think their audience is pretty damn stupid. I’m banking on a messed up Franco and Nik being involved in this somehow otherwise GH just jumped the shark, big time.
Would like to see the entire Manning family return however he would master any role

Todd Manning could have a rival newspaper or media company. That would be more believable than his Franco role.
This makes sense since someone is trying to by the company from Peter.
You just need to let Peter get caught or put in jail but you need to let Jason be free for once he has been through enough already
Um! The Manning family moves to Port Charles from Llanview, PA! That would be interesting! Considering tge rumors of OLTL returning, I’m intrigued.

The characters from both shows reverted back to ABC in 2015. That’s how GH can occasionally mention or bring on Alex Marrick or Nora Buchanan. Also how the network is considering a potential “Pine Valley” primetime series.
TOLN no longer own the rights to those characters, and have not for a long time. ABC re-gained the rights, hence why Nora Buchanan was on a few years ago.

No, I really like the Sonny-Lost-in-Nixon-Falls storyline! I love his chemistry with Nina, and I really like Phyllis and Lenny. This story kind of reminds me of that time back around 2008 on “One Life to Live” when Viki was in Texas.
I agree. I like seeing Sonny in a different role and I like the chemistry between him and Nina. I also really like Jason and Brit together. Sam has become a very boring character. Love to see Jason wear more than black t-shirts as well. He’s very handsome.. change his wardrobe from time to time- please! Love to see Roger return as Todd Manning or possibly Drew Cain. Franco has too much baggage with being a past psycho killer.
I agree. I don’t see why Sonny is not back home where he belongs. The writers are all over the place with the story lines. I’m not sure what’s going on anymore with GH. The story lines used to be so good , now I think they are lacking substance.
Still boring 3 mo. later, enough is enough with this sonny baloney we are going to wind up with carley preggers by jason and nina preggers by sonny willow preggers by michael and me giving up GH.
Respectfully, Sam has become tired and whiney. I actually like the idea of Jason amd Britt because Britt is more interesting. And yes, Sonny does need to get home, but I don’t think Nina’s gonna have a happily ever after with Jacks because he’s gonna find out that she was purposely keeping Sonny from his family which’ll make Joss hate her. And Jacks won’t choose anyone above his daughter. Nina’s unfortunately cracked. Where’s her reasoning? Definitely Nell’s mom in every way. I was somewhat sympathetic to her before this.

Franco never raped anyone, not even Sam. Before Roger was in the role, Franco liked to play games and give the illusion or suggestion that he did things, took credit for things which he didn’t do. Such as date rape Sam. He had a live feed to Jason showing Franco being in bedroom with Sam and then covered up the camera. The feed to Jason ended. Later a dvd revealed he never slept with Sam, he had actually just left. Also he made it look like he hired a thug to hurt Michael in prison but the rest of the video showed he did that part as to trick people and the rest revealed he hired the guy to protect Michael. But he picked the wrong inmate for the job.
Not sure why they revealed Franco as a trickster and having mental issues, being treated and redeemed and trying to be a protector of his family, worked the police to get tge serial murder (Ryan) and then kill him off. I heard they were getting rid of men who were bad to women… Luke left a few years ago, Tom was taken care of-partially by Franco.
All the magic DVDs, brain tumors, revisionist history and 666 different lamebrained redemption stories do not change what we actually saw happen. The REAL Franco was a serial killer who raped Sam, paid a thug to rape Michael, kidnapped baby Aiden, tied numerous people to chairs with bombs under them, and generally terrorized a bunch of people, when he wasn’t busy being a serial killer.
That’s who Franco was. It’s not who Frodd was, because Frodd was a legal fiction that an idiot named Ron Carlivati dreamed up to allow him to continue to force his pet character Todd Manning down the collective throats of General Hospital fans, when Prospect Park told him that he could no longer call the character “Todd Manning”.
But if you want to accept the fiction that Frodd was Franco and not Todd, then you have to hold him responsible for everything that Franco did. Otherwise, you have to see him as Todd Manning, and if that’s the case, he never had any business being anywhere near Elizabeth Webber.
And if that requires further explanation, you probably never watched GH before February 2012. Which is usually the case with the Frodd Fan Club.

He should come back as Franco and somehow have staged his death to get experimental treatment for tumor, that of course worked. I hated when Finn appeared at first and no one even mentioned it!

Michael Easton has always been a fan favorite. Remember he first appeared on GH as John McBain. Right now, it seems there are way too many characters on GH. Sasha, Peter, Brando, Willow, Chase, Cyrus, just to name a few. Also TPTB love to retcon their characters every few years. After watching GH for over 50 years, I guess it’s time for me to take another break. I really don’t think they should have killed Franco.

The whole reason Howorth had to leave as Todd Manning the first time was because AMC owns the rights to that character. So, Roger can not return as Todd Manning now either.

Oltl owned the rights then prospect park took over but failed us. After that was done he came back to GH as Franco. He played him well as we knew he would. I want to see him be Franco still. Elizabeth never can stay happy for long. Gh you messed up with this storyline, unless be comes back as FRANCO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually ABC and Prospect Park were fighting over the characters and in 2016 ABC won the rights to their characters back. Todd Manning can return to GH now and it would be right fit in my opinion as he could buy Peter’s paper from him.
Despite having been EP of both OLTL and GH, Frank needs network approval to bring characters from the departed ABC shows to current day GH. There were reports a few weeks ago that Frank approached the network about bringing Todd back on to GH and was denied.

How long have you watched this show? Over the past 9 years, Michael Easton has played 5 different characters one after the other and all on GH. He has been Finn for 5 years. Each character’s resemblance to each other barely mentioned. We will accept it because we love GH and if a powerhouse actor like RH wants to stay and they keep him on the front burner, I know I’m good.

Ron – ME first played John McBain on GH- he delivered Danny!Then after he played the Vampire/psycho Stephen Clay briefly, then Silas Clay, & now Finn. Only 4 characters.
Wasn’t the characters of John Mcbain and Stephon Clay on Port Charles? I don’t think they were ever on GH.
John McBain went from OLTL to GH.He met Sam in a church.During May sweeps of that year he also played Stephen Clay, who had “escaped” from a mental institution & was fixated on a very pregnant Sam McCall. At the end of that s/l he had McBain tied to a beam & had kidnapped Sam. Clay was “killed” in that s/l, we saw his coffin. After everybody left, we saw a figure from behind enter the room, & the camera gave a close-up of the ring on his hand, which was the family crest of vampire Caleb Morley.
After that s/l was over Sam left Jason & was staying in the same motel as McBain. They got closer as time went on. When Sam went into labor McBain ended up delivering Danny because they couldn’t get to GH in time. By then the Prospect Park fiasco had kicked in. Anna Devane, who was the police Commissioner at the time, called McBain into her office & told him the FBI wanted him back for a special assignment & he had to leave immediately. That’s how & when McBain left GH & ABC.

OMG!!! Finally a voice of reason. I’m in complete agreement with you. GH has “jumped the shark” I said it when I heard they were talking about bringing him back as someone other than Franco. It’s bad writing and they keep making the same mistakes over and over again.

Masks are Ron Carlivati’s go-to. Dan & Chris seem to be more refined in their storytelling than to go down that road.

I think the writers are doing a great job with all of the story lines! Each episode is just as exciting as Luke & Laura days! My favorite soap of all time & hope it never gets cancelled!
GH did the same thing with Michael Easton. He started as Silas Clay who was killed and brought him back as Finn. I do think the GH writers don’t care what the audience wants.
I think he’s Franco too. That would be awesome . While in the morgue, someone takes Franco body. His pulse was very vaint. The person also steals Medical equipment from GH to help Franco. Being that Franco been in a coma since he was shot, he won’t know himself, or anyone else.
Cameron will one day stumble up on something that leads him down the road to Franco, but Franco will not know who Cameron is. PETER MUST BE STOPPED! And Franco will be the one who will stop him.

I agree. I think he got help from Obrecht and maybe Britt so Peter would go down. He tied Peter up so loosely that he got free easily and Franco had left the gun sitting right out there easy for him to get. He wouldn’t do that. It was all too easy. I think they were setting Peter up to do what they knew he’d do. Kill Franco. Franco was probably wearing a bullet proof vest with a blood pack in it just like actors wear to make them look like they’re bleeding out. Liesl was waiting in the wings to give Franco a drug to make him seem like he had no pulse kind of like what happened to Robin when they found her. After Franco got to the hospital he left and went into hiding. Cam saw him in the morgue but remember when Faison had the real looking mask he wore and faked even Anna into thinking he was Duke? And Liesl had one and fooled people that she was Anna. So Liesl knows how to do it and probably put Franco’s face on some dead John Doe in the morgue in case anyone checked. Weird and far fetched as it is in reality we’ve seen those exact things happen before on GH.

kind of think Roger will be great whom ever he plays –look at Michael Easton he came on GH as John McBain -then had to leave due to Prospect Park n OLTL –then he came back as Silas n there was no problem n then Silas got killed off n then he returned once again as Dr Finn n once again there was no problem -even when he came as Cabel the vampire while he was playing Silas —so there should be no problem with Roger coming back as some one new -no one had a problem or said anything when Michael Easton came back several times so it should b no different for Roger —maybe he can come back as a nephew of Scott’s on Lee Baldwin’s side n hook up with Scott n then get involved with Elizabeth n her family -that would work
Well, actually Finn is the only Michael Easton character who has made any sense at all. And he was better with the lizard than with the little brother who we’re now supposed to believe is his “son”.
Okay we someone with boat loads of money and power to buy the Intruder. He should be arrogant, funny and not afraid of anything. So, Victor Lord, Jr. blows into town. He needs new territory to conquer. Port Charles just may be the place. He goes toe to toe with Cyrus. Sonny regains his memory just in time to join forces to get his business back. PS: i hope Michael E. Knight ( Martin stays around and helps Victor with all the legal mumbo jumbo. This could set up a new romance for Elizabeth.

There was talk at one time that Helena Cassadine was returning. So this gives her the perfect opening to return and be involved in the Franco story. More believeable then anything else.

But RH has been Franco for much longer than ME played any of his other characters before Finn. Franco is iconic and RH IS Franco! I don’t think I could accept him as anyone else, unless perhaps Drew but that’s stretching it too.

How many times has a character been shot, drowned, disappeared, comatosed for months/years on end. I simply don’t care. I’m not waiting with baited breath for his return. It’s just all so recycled. You’d think one of these four soaps would finally dare to be innovative. Not happening.
While soaps being back characters from the dead too frequently, two usually sure fire signs a character is gone for good is an extended Morgue scene (as in Franco or Faison) or the character being escorted into the afterlife (AJ or Mike).

Elizabeth does not seem to be in a hugely deep mourning state, and is possibly part of the plan to bring Franco back while trying to keep all of her boys somewhat okay. Liesl may be in on the plan as well as Jason, Anna, Nicholas, and Robert. Many possibilities. And maybe the “extremely memorable return” includes Billy Miller as Drew Cain. But I do not want Roger to return as Todd Manning.

For some reason, I doubt he’ll come back as Franco. And that would be a real shame because of how well the writers have developed the character over the last few years. It took me a very long time to warm up to Franco, and there was a time when I really wanted the character gone. But after all the work they put in to his relationship with Liz and her boys, and the amazing storyline between Roger Howarth and Billy Miller, I was devastated when Franco died.
I have a feeling he’ll be back as Drew. Maybe after Drew’s plane went down, he required facial reconstruction surgery (again) and will be made to look like Franco? Either that, or Franco’s death was staged VERY well in an elaborate plot to take Peter down. Again, I doubt it, because this death seemed pretty final, whereas Drew’s fate was left up in the air.
If the writers could actually write such an elaborate plot scheme to take Peter down (once and for all because that storyline has dragged on for far too long.) It’d be a good thing because Franco was great with Ekuzabeth and her boys and why can’t the ccx writers just leave couokes together
I totally think that this is the route they’re heading. Drew’s character was left wide open and we never really got to know his real character with the memory issue.

I can’t believe they won the case against prospect park and aren’t taking advantage of having the rights to the character that were in question back. I’m sorry but if roger isn’t Todd, I’m not going to really much care who he is. Same goes with Michael Easton…I have been holding out hope John McBain would be in town and I am still hoping for that. Finn can go as far as I’m concerned.
According to reports, Frank wanted to bring Roger back as Todd, ABC supposedly said no due to the character’s history as a rapist.

Now as to Roger’s new character….. Hell only knows, but it sounds like he’s going to appear naked (or close to it) so presumably they will have to come up with a story to explain that. Still predicting he’s going to be a new member of a long term Port Charles family, such as a Quartermaine cousin from the Jimmy Lee branch of the family tree. Or maybe another Cassadine. Another son of Mikkos doesn’t seem likely, as he froze himself to death 40 years ago, and his last bastard son turned out to be Helena’s with some other dude (we still don’t know who that was, BTW). But maybe Victor Cassadine had a kid before he served time in prison after The Big Freeze.

Franco and he has been working with feds to get Peter without really getting shot. They expected this from Peter and Jason is in on it to finally get rid of Cyrus and Peter.

This may seem bonkers, but what else is new on soaps. And not that I like it …I just don’t care about Franco, because tumour or not, I never liked the character. Especially when the first Franco actor played the vicious role. But I think writers have too much invested in Roger as the Franco character so he won’t be resurrected into someone else…again. Can you imagine what this would do to Cam, let alone Elizabeth? More hysteria, oh “noooo.” But I can’t figure out who would be with him on such an elaborate plan since nobody can keep a secret. And while we know GH has evolved into something we don’t recognize anymore, As Rhett would say, I really don’t give a da*m. And we still have “dead” Sonny and Nelle waiting in the wings. Oh well, it still fills up an hour in the afternoon.

General Hospital Pays Tribute to Tyler Christopher at End of Episode, ABC Exec Nathan Varni Shares: “You’ll Always Be In Our Hearts”
If you caught the end of the Monday, November 27th Thanksgiving episode of General Hospital, the ABC daytime drama ended the show with a special dedication to Tyler Christopher (ex-Nikolas Cassadine), who passed away on October 31st at the age of 50.
With a very touching title card, and a photo of Tyler from his younger days as the dark prince of the Cassadine clan, it read, “In Loving Memory of Tyler Christopher.”
On Tuesday, November 28th, ABC Current Series executive, Nathan Varni, who oversees Grey’s Anatomy, The Conners, Station 19 and General Hospital for the network, shared on X some additional thoughts on Tyler’s contributions to the GH family.

Varni expressed: “This lovely tribute card was shown at the end of yesterday’s episode of GH In loving memory of Tyler Christopher. Thanks for bringing Nikolas Cassadine to life on our screens, you’ll always be in our hearts. RIP.”
Tyler played the role of GH’s Nikolas from 1996–1999, 2003–2011, and lastly from 2013–2016. He also took on the role of Connor Bishop from 2004–2005. The late actor took home the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2016 for his work as Nikolas.

GH’s Scarlett Fernandez on Charlotte’s Mindset: “She Completely Believes That Anna is Out to Get Her”
Once returning to General Hospital, Scarlett Fernandez (Charlotte) has been involved in a juicy storyline, where an impressionable young Charlotte Cassadine has been persuaded almost brain-washed, if you will, via a letter from Victor Cassadine from the grave.
In it, he implores Charlotte to keep Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) away from her father, Valentin (James Patrick Stuart). So, taking that to heart, Charlotte burned Anna’s house down and much more. When she gets shot by Anna after intruding into the super spy’s apartment, the stakes get even higher.
Valenin had figured out that Charlotte was stalking Anna and trying to do her harm, but did not inform Anna. That has caused a major rift in their relationship. Meanwhile, Laura (Genie Francis) and Valentin confronted Charlotte after she returned home from the hospital.

In her latest interview with Soap Opera Digest, Fernandez shared on getting to play this kind of story: “It’s definitely an honor because when I was little, I was getting storylines, but this is just crazy! I kind of feel like I’m treated like an adult on the show now, almost, and it’s just been great. I’ve been given great stuff and the fact that Frank (Valentini, EP, GH) and all of his co-workers have trusted me has just been an amazing feeling.”
With everyone confronting Charlotte on her dirty deeds against Anna, and her denying it, Fernandez weighs-in on just where Charlotte is at this point in her mind: “I think that she definitely realizes that the people around her don’t believe her and don’t trust her and I think that really frustrates her because she completely believes that Anna is out to get her. So that (the adults in her life don’t believe her) is hard for her.”

There is also burgeoning chemistry between Jake (Hudson West) and Charlotte! So what does Fernandez think of that? Is she using him, or could be the beginning of young love? She expressed: “I think it’s definitely a little bit of both. I think that maybe she and Jake are partners-in-crime, but I also think that Jake has or will have a good influence on her. She just really needs someone to be there for her and for her to be able to confide in and I think that he has been that.”

Soap Stars and Notables Participate in the 91st Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade (Photos)
Sunday night in tinseltown, it was time for the 91st anniversary of the Hollywood Christmas Parade, which has become an annual tradition featuring soap stars and other celebrities from primetime, movies, music, and sports as thy drive down famed Hollywood Boulevard amongst floats and musical performances.
While many attended the live event, viewers around the country will be able to see the taped version of the parade on Friday, December 15th when it has its first airing on The CW in a two-hour special starting at 8 pm ET/PT.
Taking part in the festivities were: General Hospital’s Tajh Bellow (TJ), The Bold and the Beautiful’s Kimberlin Brown (Sheila), Ashley Jones (Bridget), Denise Richards (ex-Shauna), and Naomi Matsuda (Li), Days of our Lives stars, then and now, including: Deidre Hall (Marlena), A Martinez (ex-Eduardo), Stephen Nichols (Steve), Brant Daughtery (ex-Brian), and Jen Lilley (ex-Theresa), The Young and the Restless’ Kate Linder (Esther) and former star Tatyana Ali (ex-Roxanne), The Bay’s Kristos Andrews (Peter/Adam) and Maxwell Caufield (Sir Thomas Kenway), plus As the World Turns Ming Na Wen (ex-Lien) and more.
In addition, iconic dancer/singer and choreographer, Paula Abdul was the recipient of the Humanitarian of the Year, while Dean Cain, Erik Estrada, Laura McKenzie, Montel Williams along with guest host, Elizabeth Stanton, called the Sunday-after-Thanksgiving tradition from different locations around the parade route.
