Rumor Report: ABC to make"Major Decisions" in coming week on daytime line-up!

As many know Daytime Confidential broke this story earlier this week, that has ABC Daytime’s line-up is in question, once again.

DC brings up many points.  First, after moving All My Children to Los Angeles the show is apparently still over budget, while One Life to Live which is still in New York, who brings their show in under budget,  has less of a brand name, which could indicate something could impact these shows future. While, General Hospital is still the number one spot on the network daytime line-up.

What is going on stemmed from the projects that were being bantered about from ABC Media Productions last year which included three possible talk shows that could have one or more green-lighted including, The Tori Spelling and Jeff Lewis gabfest, the cooking show with Danny Boome, and the male talkfest produced by Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie…The View team.

According to DC’s sources the following was stated, “They (ABC) have to make a decision by the end of the First Quarter of 2011 in order to get one or more of the shows on the air by fall, Affiliates are getting antsy with Oprah leaving the airwaves with no clear cut successor. The decisions ABC will be making will have ripple effects throughout the ABC Daytime lineup and yes, the soaps will be affected.”

So the question becomes, would these talk shows take spots designated to the current soap line-up, or not? And if so, what would happen and who would be effective?

If Brian Frons thought he experienced a fan uprising in relation to GH’s decision to fire Rebecca Herbst, he ain’t seen nothing yet! Just wait til ABC starts messing w/our Soaps! He’s going to get more mail than the entire casts of all 3 Soaps received in the last decade! Soap fans are a mighty, outspoken, fiercely loyal bunch & we will fight for our fave shows tooth & nail!

Laurie, I understand how you feel. I’ve never been a regular viewer of the ABC serials but have watched the CBS ones for decades. The CBS fans have just watched the death of half of its line-up in the past 2 years while NBC is down to 1 show. The loss of ATWT was particularly hard as the show seemed to have a lot of “life” and potential when it was axed.

Frankly, the ABC fans have been fairly luckly as that network’s serials have survived. I hope that all 3 of them are around a year from now.

vanessa marcil giovinazzo has brought sexy back to gh, which was massively floundering til her return. find a way to keep her AT ALL COST. soups are truly dying. i agree: pay for the soap opera greats and weighty guest stars. drop the deadweight actors and change out all mediocre writers to fabulous ones. bring vanessa back. then bring clair labine back to write for all ABC soaps. appeal to a young audience and invest on things like location shoots. soaps could make a comeback if the right management were there!

Cady McClain Remembers ‘All My Children’ On Its 50th Anniversary Sharing: “I Will Always Be Grateful For the Experience, and For The Lifelong Relationship With All The Fans”

The beloved All My Children first aired on January 5th, 1970 on ABC and ran on the network until it was canceled back in September of 2013.  The next year, the show received a short-lived reboot online via Prospect Park.

One of the actresses to appear in both the network and online version was Daytime Emmy winning actress Cady McClain, who became soap-famous for her role as Dixie Cooney Martin and together with Michael E. Knight, became one of soaps all-time popular duos as Tad and Dixie.

While so many miss All My Children every single day and the indelible characters created by the late, great Agnes Nixon, McClain took to her Instagram on Sunday to relate what the soap opera meant to her in her life.

Here is what Cady shared along with a cover of Soap Opera Digest featuring Michael Knight and herself as Tad and Dixie: “Today I am celebrating the 50th Anniversary of “All My Children”! I started on the show when I had just turned 19 in the fall of 1988. I worked as a contract player thru 1996. I was back in the fall of 1997 again under contract and worked through 2001. That’s roughly 13 years. Then I came back for a year in 2006, then for a couple months in 2012. Then I did the internet version for six weeks and then… the show was done.

For many years this show and the people on it were like family to me. The makeup artists as much mom’s as my own mom to me at times. And thanks to the work I was able to afford some art school and college as well. I saw many great shows (both American and International) that came to NYC, which opened my eyes to what performance could be. It allowed me to do a lot of Off-Broadway theater and roles in five Indie films while working my day job.

I was nominated three times and won my first Emmy. I made some lifelong friends like Michael E. Knight, James Patrick Stewart, Jill Larson, Penny Bergman, Julia Barr, Lonnie Quinn and many others both in front of and behind the scenes. And most importantly, I was able to take care of my wild but wonderful mother. ‘She who drove me nuts’ but impressed on me the importance of having art in ones life. Who read me poems and took me to museums. My child who died but who I so grateful to have known. Thank you ABC and all the producers and writers who supported me and my work. Because of your support my life was richer, broader, more interesting. I will always be grateful for the experience …. and for the lifelong relationship with all the fans! Massive shout out to the daytime fans who continue to support me in my projects. When I meet one of you on the street I am truly grateful for your time and that we got to share some really special moments together. . .”
