Sean Blakemore Reveals Exit from General Hospital

The soap rumor mill is often churning with fans of daytime drama, but tonight, Daytime Emmy-winner Sean Blakemore (Shawn, General Hospital) took a moment on his Twitter account to clarify the speculation that he was let go from the ABC daytime drama series.

Blakemore revealed that it was his decision to leave the show at this time, but left the door open for a return down the line.

When responding to a fans question on his status with the soap, Sean responded, “I appreciate you and ALL my wonderful supporters! I was absolutely NOT let go. It was my decision to exit the show because of other obligations. The GH family has been great to me! Who knows whats to come in the near future 🙂”

From the looks of recent scenes, it seemed that in story, the character of Shawn Butler was headed for a romance with Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn), but if Blakemore is exiting the show, looks like things are taking a different turn.

On Friday’s episode, Shawn told Alexis that some west coast newspapers are folding, and he’s thinking of buying the company, all in effort to grow The Invader’s reach. However, to do that, he would need to move to San Francisco and be based out of there.

Shawn would like a reason for him to stay in Port Charles, and Alexis can’t quite give him the answer he needs in that moment, since she hasn’t been involved with anyone since Neil died.  So, we shall see how this plays out on-screen.

For the meantime, what do you think about Sean leaving GH? Comment below.

I thought it would be a great thing for them to bring Shawn back, but honestly they haven’t used him very much. Can’t say that I blame him for looking for work elsewhere.

It’s ironic though that he went into the newspaper publishing business, right around the time that his old job in the “coffee business” opened up again…. for the same reason it did the last time he had it – the supposed death of Jason.

If he had re-applied for that job he might have had more airtime… at least until Jason makes his way back to Port Charles again.

Or maybe – cynical side of the Devil talking here – they didn’t think they could sell the idea of a past relationship between Shawn and this new Jordan recast, who looks young enough to be his daughter.

There was never much of a storyline once Shawn got out of Pentonville. A very talented actor, who will find much work in primetime.

Missed opportunities in building out his familial ties. Could’ve easily been Phyllis’ brother.

How about staying to be with your son!!! This is so stupid!!! With them bringing Jordan back, just recast the role!!!

I wanted to see a triangle between Sean, Curtis, and the new, beautiful Jordan.

The new Jordan looks like she would be in a triangle between Mikey & Chase. She would look like Shawn’s daughter.

Yea, wished I looked that good at forty. Perhaps that is a very old photo.

This seems like odd timing given that they just recast Jordan, not to mention Taggart will be back soon too. It seems like GH didn’t know what to do with Shawn since he was released from prison, and I wasn’t too invested in a romance with Alexis. Hopefully they’ll keep him recurring and he’ll pop in from time to time.

I don’t want him to leave

Maybe if some time had been taken from THE SONNY & CARLY HOUR, Shawn could have had a story besides taunting Nikolas. But the writers’ priorities once again are obvious.

Alexis needs shawn to be there she loves him and they are cute together and he is so sexy

I love his character and was over the moon when they brought him back. We only got to see his here and there. I want a major story for him so bad.

Waited so long for this great guy to come back, then he’s here only long enough to save Alexis’s bacon and he’s off again. Will miss you Sean, I was looking forward to big things.

This week on all-new episodes of General Hospital, new and old motivations come into play with dangerous consequences. According to the just released GH video spoilers video for the week of August 3-7, a bailiff calls out, “All rise!”

Now it’s Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) vs. Curtis (Donnell Turner), as the surgeon is suing the owner of the Savoy for assault that ruined is ability to operate. At the end of the day, which of these men has enough evidence against the other? Portia (Brook Kerr) is by Isaiah’s side, while Jordan (Tanisha Harper) is with Curtis.

Next, Lucy (Lynn Herring) has a plan to get the controlling shares of Deception away from Michael (Rory Gibson). She wants her daughter, Serena (Kelly Kruger) to seduce Michael. She tells her, “Pick out your most seductive suit.” Soon, we see Serena in her bathing suit at the Metro Court face to face with Michael.

Later, there is a small baggie containing three blue pills. Nina (Cynthia Watros) ask Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), “What did you do?” We also see Michael asking the same thing of Jacinda (Paige Herschell). Leading into this week, viewers know that Willow doesn’t want the former escort anywhere near her children, Amelia and Wiley. Is this how she stops her, or is Jacinda up to old tricks and wants to frame Willow? Remember when Jacindsa drugged Drew (Cameron Mathison)? Stay tuned.

Finally, in the pick-up from last Friday’s cliffhanger, an emotional Jason (Steve Burton) continues to tell Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he cannot work for him anymore. Sonny ask, “So that’s it? You’re Out?” We fade to black.

Vincent Pastore, best known for his memorable role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos has passed away.

The veteran actor was found dead on August 1st in his home in the Bronx, New York. Pastore was 80-years-old. The cause of death is yet to be determined.

As well as his role on The Sopranos, many soap fans will recall he played multiple smaller roles on the beloved One Life to Live from 1995 and 2004. However, in 2008, he landed the short-term role as Maximus Giambetti on General Hospital.

PASTORE WANTED TO BE ON GENERAL HOSPITAL

Maximus was the mobster father of Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) bodyguards: Max (Derk Cheetwood) and Milo (Drew Cheetwood)

According to Soap Opera Digest, Pastore told Soaps In Depth back in 2009, after appearing in a SOAPnet promotional campaign as a celebrity fan of General Hospital: “‘I’d love to be on the show. So they called up GH’s casting director (Mark Teschner) and Bobby (Robert Guza Jr. ex-head writer, GH) and they wrote me in!”

Pastore was a huge General Hospital fan from way back, who at one point told producers that he would watch the ABC soap opera while working in bars and nightclubs in the 70s and 80s.

Throughout his decades long career, Pastore appeared in films including: Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way and Men of Respect, The Jerky Boys: The Movie and the 1996 HBO TV movie Gotti.

In TV, besides The Sopranos, Pastore’s credits included: Law & Order, The Practice, Son of the Beach, Queens Supreme, Hawaii Five-0, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, plus the miniseries The Last Don II. Most recently, Vincent was a series regular on Gravesend and guest starred on Yellowjackets.

Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee, son-in-law and granddaughter.
