The big announcement that fans were expecting came this afternoon on CBS’s hit daytime talk show, The Talk, when General Hospital favorite Steve Burton confirmed that he will indeed be playing Avery’s Ex, war hero, Dylan McAvoy on The Young and the Restless!

During the conversation with the ladies of the The Talk, Burton revealed that the deal to come to CBS Daytime was hard to pass up once it was arranged that Steve could back and forth to be with his family now relocated in Nashville, Tennessee, something Burton did when he departed his role as Jason Morgan on General Hospital.

In addition, Steve mentioned that he, Y&R executive producer, Jill Farren Phelps, and film star and frequent soap star guest, James Franco are working on a telenovela and are in talks with Sony Television.   Of course, Sony owns The Young and the Restless!

When discussing his new character of Dylan, Burton revealed Dylan is an war veteran who did two tours of the Middle East. By trade he is an architect and he has to take over the family construction business because his father sustains a serious injury.    Burton says he is trying to grasp how Dylan will deal with his demons from the war, and that he knows his new character has a bunch of secrets, and he is coming to town looking for somebody special.

Burton’s first airdate on Y&R will be January 29th!  After the jump, watch went down on The Talk this afternoon when the ladies of the panel: Sara Gilbert, Sheryl Underwood, Aisha Tyler, Sharon Osbourne and Julie Chen welcomed Steve Burton to CBS Daytime!  Then let us know what you thought of Steve’s comments and his decision to join Y&R, and if you are intrigued by his new character of Dylan McAvoy?

If he is happy and about this decision, then that is great. If he is Jill Farren Phelps little puppy dog, then screw him. When Jill gets the ax, Steve will either leave and or get the ax. And General Hospital should tell him “Not Interested, Goodbye”

i want to say first, i love this blog well done pretty and i love it.
and we were just talkin bout the same as your sounding bout JILL PHELPS LURNING him easily over there away from all who admire, respect his body of work and his body ! lol

Let the b*tching begin…

Seriously. 😉

Ha!

Fabulous. So cute

I don’t walk in his shoes………but I think he should have been honest to his fans of all these years………I don’t watch Y & R……..and I doubt I’ll tune in because of him.. In my eyes, he is still Jason.

he was honest … he did what he said he wanted to do and was going to do…
so what if he wants/decided to have a different job. and to leave Jason behind, good move on his part…
good luck to Steve!!

I agree!

I am actually impressed. I don’t watch “The Talk” but I do watch Y&R and sometimes B&B. The treatment he received was so welcoming, to say the least. He seems to have genuine energy and excitement about his projects. And he wasn’t wearing a Black T-shirt! He looked great and presented his projects with great enthusiasm. I am going to be positive for Y&R and its fans, and continue to enjoy GH without him. Lots of excitement in the soap world today! YEAH!

I actually agree with you. People say “The Talk” is just “The View 2.0”, but for the 4 or 5 times I’ve watched, it’s really a much friendlier, less volatile environment than the ABC competition. They treat every guest the same, CBS affiliated or not. They brought out the confetti, a banner and even mentioned GH and his long history there. The View never even mentions other networks when their stars show up, they always say “…check your local listings”.

He seems really excited, so I’m happy for him. I was never a fan of Jason or Steve’s so his leaving GH left no ill-will from me, and his move to YR certainly hasn’t made me dislike him any more (though “dislike” may be the wrong word….I NEVER “disliked” him as a person). I don’t think this role will become his defining role or that he’ll last nearly as long as he was on GH for, but for whatever this part amounts to, good luck and all the best!

I too agree with you. i am looking forward to catching up on Y& R again and seeing Steve there too.

Congratulations to Mr Burton,I hope he has a long run on Y&R,but now it’s time to recast Jason on GH.

I am happy for Steve! I will watch him on Y&R. I wish that he were coming back to my fave GH… but it sounds like he has a great deal and in this economy… that’s HUGE!

I agree Heidi. I am very happy for Steve too, as he seems so excited about all of the things he is working on, including going to Y & R. I too, would prefer he go back to GH, but it is his choice, and from what he said today, it certainly sounds like they offered him all the perks he wanted, so good for him (and you are absolutely correct Heidi, in this economy, that is an even bigger get)!!! I believe he has young children, that I am sure he is so happy to be able to spend more quality time with (as well as his wife, of course), while they are in the Tennesse environment he and his wife wanted. It is great that he will still be part of Port Chuck with some of his GH friends, and I know it could not have been easy to let go of something you have been a major part of for 21 years, so I am sure he did not make the decision to leave GH lightly. I am not a Y & R fan, but I will certainly be tuning in to see him, so I say, I would rather see him somewhere, then not at all. I miss your presence on GH Steve, but I wish you much good luck with all of your pending projects, as well as your new role on Y & R, and I look forward to seeing you bring another character to life.

I think he is actually going to be a new love interest for Sharon Case even though he is Avery’s ex at least I hope so, it is time for Sharon to move on from the Newmans. I think also he has a job in politics if this falls apart. He knows how to really dodge the questions. Lol! Word of warning SB do not admire people too much as you do JFP they will dissapoint you.

Great post. Also, I agree Sharon needs a new man in her life.

Sharon Newman needs to find herself and establish a new path for her life AND THEN she can become romantically involved. To watch this fine actress work a storyline about her rise from the ashes and coping with a very real mental illness ON HER OWN would be an inspiring plot and give much needed redemption and stengthening of a very damaged character. I want to see her reach out to others and serve instead of being a victim needing saved.

Well stated, Iakovos. I would love to see THAT story for Sharon.

I would love to see him with Phyliss…..her sister Avery is with Nick now….that would be a great storyline to have her be with Avery’s ex.

I can understand Steve’s decision to try acting another character. Playing a one dimensional mob character would get tiring rather quickly. Good Luck on your new acting endeavor, Steve.

GH is doing well without Steve and his departure has actually freed up screen time for others as although I liked Steve on GH…I thought JFP overutilized him and some others.

I completely agree with you, Michael S! His departure also allowed the return of Sean Kanaan as AJ which has re-energized the Quartermaine clan and given Michael new depth.

I agree. Seems a win-win all around.

I think someone should have hosed down Sheryl- I felt uncomfortable for SB when she straddled him like a horse. I might have misunderstood what I heard, but based on his body language I got the impressed Sony strong armed this guy into doing Y&R in order to have his night time project go on. He did not look thrilled at all- he seemed to be trying too hard to be excited. I know so many GH fans think he went behind their backs, planning this all along, but based on what I saw today, more than ever I believe he is pimping himself out to TPTB at Sony, so his other project might see daylight. Or maybe his friend JFP pimped him out, but he does not sound or look like a man happy to be back on a soap.

That’s an intriguing thought, Mary SF. I didn’t get that feeling, so I watched the intro again. I think he might be uncomfortable, if at all, because of all that estrogen! Ha! Ha! Maybe he wasn’t really prepared for this junket.

I agree with you about Sheryl, though. It’s funny because of the behind-the-scenes feud with Leah Remini and Holly Robinson Peete getting fired because they were considered “too ghetto.” Sheryl acts too childish, but to each their own. 🙂

Maybe Steve was bored. I remember the rumors were flying the minute he wrapped at GH about him going to Y&R, but to me, it sounds like he put feelers out just recently. Then again, anything is possible and he could have been strong-armed into it. I just think he probably has a really huge paycheck and I don’t see him being strong-armed to fill a role. Then on the other hand, maybe they are expecting big ratings by his signing. It almost sounds like Major League Baseball. I guess it all looks good on paper (all the big names they have on Y&R).

Perhaps strong arm wasn’t the word- but I think he does want to do other things like produce, and doing a favor for the people who are thinking of helping you develop a project is just common sense. A little you scratch my back I’ll scratch yours is a possibility. Like I said I may have misunderstood and I don’t know him well, he might hate press gigs, but he didn’t look like a man who just got the job he was dying to get.

Thank you for saying it Mary SF… I was thinking… but decided not too. If Steve was uncomfortable about anything it was Sheryl jumping on him and generally attacking him! He could have been hurt… she is like a Volkswagon beetle jumping him… someone should have restrained her! He has seen crazy in fans before but to expect that a co-host would behave the same way was very unsettling! He’s been… as he said sitting on his porch in rural TN and then to go and have her behave like a looney would have made any sane person uncomfortable!!! CBS Talk restrain that person or take her off the segment… she provided no value!

I’m with you Mary SF re., Sheryl jumping on him. That was beyond SO inappropriate to do to a marrier man with 2 small children. I’m sure they were watching or will be. She is no small girl either and Steve is not a big man. I thought he was very gracious in the way he handled it. I like Sheryl, but that was SO wrong.

I’m really happy for Steve. I can’t imagine as an actor playing the same character for 21 years and going to the same job. He’s a man on the move with a good head on his shoulders. I can’t wait to see what he does next, in addition to Y&R. As a man of faith, I’m hoping he’ll produce something worth watching, since we are lacking in the arena.

If that is what he wants, then good for him. But, it seems like. he lied to his GH fans

How did he lie? I never saw a single lie.

I agree with scott, steve did not lie to gh fans and went to spend more time with his family. Jill approah him and made the offer.

Once i Heard that steve was going to y&r I figured they made him an offer that he could not refuse – if he can be on y&r and still have the time he wants with his familky in tennesse I am so happy for him

Ive just finished watching the Talk clip w SB re the Y&R role he will be portraying etc. Then I proceeded to read all of the comments made about Steve Burton here. I was surprised to learn that Steve is going back to soasps so soon, because per his statements re his departure from Gh he was leaving to spend quality time with raise his family in Tenn.esse out the Hollywood environment and to concentrate on his other business endeavors ie his restaurant et al. I remember being surprised when the move was announced because I had figured that the steady paycheck to support a wife and child was what lured him back to GH to begin with, as it does many popular soap actors who leave for larger horizons , don’t get much work, then come back to soaps where they can re-up from the steady salary they garner. My first thought about SB going to Y&R was like half of the fans who commented that his statement about why he was leaving GH wasn’t exactly the truth. But then I looked at the whole thing a little more closely. He did mention his ongoing relationship w JFP and that she was going to be involved in a few other projects namely one with James Franco. I think it is wise to have a back-up plan anytime you take a risk in whatever your endeavors , plans, or goals are.-most successful people do. I have been watching all of the ABC soaps because of my Mother since 1969. I think they were all single-handedly destroyed by one head writer in particular by the name of Megan McTavish. What had set Ryans Hope, Loving, AMC, OLTL, and Gh (there was another short lived with Susan Sarandon) were the concentration on characterr, families and integrity to all within excellent storylines. I’v e continued to watch GH because of my loyalty to ABC soaps, but have to say that I have never liked it revollving around gangsters. The first glimpse we had of action other than the hospital setting was Luke involved in shady business and the whole Frank Smith saga. That was the advent of bad-boy with good heart, super couples and location shots (i think amc was first with location shots , maybe not)
Stever Burton was great as Jason Q and Jason Morgan. I believe his character was stunted at the end of his run. Had the writers made his memory come back to beingJason Q, after Patrick performed his brain surgery, there would have been new life for the character. I think Steve did the best he could with the material he got, and how he was directed to perform it.
And I believe he left for greener pastures, while he still can. Do I think going to Y&R is kind of a slap in the face to his loyal fans? Perhaps to GH fans, but not necessarily to SB fans should be thrilled that they will be able to see him perform again. I felt that way when Michael Easton was brought to GH. Everything must change. like the Big Book says for every season turn turn turn. I hope GH stays on the show for many years to come, and that soaps in general don’t depart the air-waves because there are so many talented actors who we might otherwise never get to see perform. I don’t like everything the head writers are doing on GH, one thing i love which reminds of my soaps in the golden days, is that stories are revealed and wrapped up more quickly. and that they have brought many veterans back to give it more of the old school GH flavor. Remember, once upon a time, there was Steve Hardy, his wife Audrey and her sister Lucy who was the head nurse, and storylines were mainly about Doctor and Nurse characters who worked at the hospital- The writers seem to be bringing that focus back much more than in the recent past, which I applaud them for. I franky was bored and more bored. at the cartoon gangster repertory theater that the show had become. I think SB may have felt the same way partnered with his other reasons for leaving which may have included salary concerns. I think he put in a great 21 years and had the right to make a change in his life the same way we all have the God given right. His comment on the Talk was that the offer from JFP was made after his departure. Maybe it was maybe it wasn’t. but that doesnt make him an evil no good for nothing guy anymore if he didnt tell all before he left. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing him 2x at soap events and got to talk to him a bit and observed him amongst his peers and fans. He is a real sincere, gentleman with a great sense of humor, and very humble. I wish him the best. He deserves it, as we all do, a wonderful, Blessed New Year.

To those of have said he was lying about his plans when he left GH, why would he? Maybe ABC wouldn’t give him the appealing deal that CBS/SONY did. And also 21 years is a whale of a long time in one role. Happy times on TY&TR Steve!

I really think that Frank Valentini and GH would have given him the same deal he got over at Y&R. Some people felt he was pissed because every story line wasn’t about him any longer. I thought that was ridiculous when I first heard it. Now, I’m not so sure. What I do know is he slapped his fans in face by not being honest. So much for being with his family etc., etc.. Me personally I say to Cartini time to find the body and let Sam move on with John already. As for Steve B you lost me as a fan today.

I think for some fans this betrayal feeling is more about Sam and Jason not getting the happy family their fans craved for for years. Fan thought that once their was a baby they would be together forever, even being happy little beautiful JAKE was killed off so Sam could have Jason’s baby. Now some fans are acting as thou Steve left own purpose to hurt them. He has the right to seek employment somewhere else, as do other citizens in this country. It’s done everyday. True fans would wish him the best of luck and move own. He honored his contract to General Hospital, told his loyal fans good-bye, said goodbye to his castmates, and hello to his future. He doesn’t owe the fans anything, and I think he was honest.
One sad part about fans we think the actor/actresses on these shows owe us something because we look at them everyday. That we should know their plans for their future and if we don’t agree, then you have betrayed us the fans, and less not forget you can’t leave because of being part of a couple on a Soap Opera we like.
People this is Steve Burton not Jason Morgan a character on a SOAP.

Waltina I agree with you 100%. An actor is free to go on and do whatever he/she wishes. I may not have explained myself. What irks me is I read quite a few interviews with Steve B before he left in which he discussed all his reasons for leaving. The main ones being he wanted time off to be with his family AND he was looking forward to a new life in Nashville. Why go to all the trouble of repeating yourself interview after interview saying these things if what you are really in search of is a change, or the desire to work with JFP again? He knew that this would not sit well with his fans or he would have been honest. I just feel after 20 years in the role of Jason he could have been more honest.

Sounds great. I am excited about everything in our soap world today! Can’t wait to see it all unfold.

Do you guys think it was a bit tacky that it was announced whike GH was on? I wish him well but I really would like to see him recast on GH sometime in the future.

How is that tacky? The Talk is a major platform now for CBS Daytime stars to come on. And it’s timeslot is where ATWT used to be. I’m sure he didn’t think about the timeslot, nor did he care.

He didn’t specifically state that he and GH discussed him being able to communte back and forth from Nashville to Tennessee. He just said he wasn’t able to do that before, but didn’t elaborate. I wonder if that was actually discussed. If he thought he could do that with GH, why not negotiate it? Just because he’s friends with Jill Farren-Phelps isn’t a good enough reason to accept her offer and betray his GH family and the fans by jumping ship. If Jill offered him something that wasn’t discussed yet at GH, he should’ve told her, “let me see if GH can match your offer”. If they wouldn’t, then okay, by all means go to “Y&R”, but I can’t believe someone as popular as he was on the show, that they wouldn’t do it. He just seemed so upset to leave GH, and if he could have both GH and a family life outside of LA, he would do it, but instead he’s now picked Y&R. Just doesn’t sit well with me. There goes any hope of Jason being found alive for GH’s 50th anniversary.

Superb! Another new character, just what Y&R needs *rolls eyes*. Watch him come crawling back to GH when CBS wises up and axes JFP, just like ABC did.

Jill has saved Y&R. So please stop spreading unneeded hate.

I agree with scott, jill is leading y&r on the right path. Maria bell ruin characters and has some worst writing I ever seen.

“Saved”? Really? I agree with CR, that Maria Arena Bell was horrific, but Jill Farren Phelps is hardly a soap savior. It’s been a few months and all she has seemed to do is fire actors that people loved and bring on new people who are unneccesary and unfamilar to viewers. She should have adapted Frank Valentini’s approach by bringing back beloved characters, putting vets front and center, while integrating the younger set gradually. Instead, Nick is on a non-stop cooking show with Avery, Sharon seems to be completely healed of her “bipolar” (which is very disconcerting that Jill, who worked with Maurice Bernard for so many years, would even look at Josh Griffith’s scripts and find them to be OK), Kevin and Chloe are in a ridiculous storyline with nuNoah, Fen is now Ricky 2.0, Neil is in another insta-relationship, and Nikki is back to being Victor’s lapdog. It’s nothing new, it’s nothing interesting, and it’s the same reason Guiding Light, General Hospital, and other soap opera fans could not stand this woman as an executive producer (not to say it is all her fault considering JG is the headwriter). The only storyline worth watching is Jack Abbott’s pill addiction and the only reason that is even appealing is because of Peter Bergman’s incredible acting abilities (as well as Michelle Stafford’s).

wow thats a little obnoxious lol

Congratulations to Steve! I cannot wait to see what kind of character Dylan becomes. I hope he really roots himself into the series.

eh, he’s a working actor…so he left GH…who cares why? It’ll be interesting to see him do something else. Y&R needs a powerhouse like him.

I was interested when Jason, the character left, I didn’t care why the actor did. It’s just a job. We all leave jobs.

I wonder if Sir Steve Burton any stock in Daytime Confidential,Soaptown, and
other soap rags!….Too much publicity for Steve, what the F***…….

WE GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, HE MOVED ON!!!!

CAN WE? NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I DON’T CARE ABOUT SBU,

HIS GAL-PAL,JFP (MS. ADLER) IS HIS hum, BUDDY!

Well, I am justified. When all the hoo-hah was going crazy and attacking SB,I said he was coming toY&R. It was all about the dog tags Nick found and that Avery looked at. So, it was obvious to me that he would play Dylan Mcavoy. I hope he is not there for Sharon….please!…

I find it funny this issue of Mr. Burton’s employment is such an emotional hotpoint for fans. I find more offense to referring to THE TALK as a “hit.” Ugh! Yes, the show seems to promote daytime but CBS dropped the ball when it axed AS THE WORLD TURNS and GUIDING LIGHT. That is difficult for me to forgive yet.

” I find more offense to referring to THE TALK as a “hit.”

Ha! Ha! I agree, Iakovos! 🙂

Agreed!

Agreed! I remember when The Talk first aired and fans swore they weren’t going to watch (much like The Chew, The Revolution, etc.) in dedication to the fallen soaps. I miss ATWT and GL 🙁

Just when I though Y&R couldnt get more dull. He is “watching paint dry” personified.
He is one of the most overrated actors in daytime history.

He not overated dude, he popular actor that gh lost

everyones entitled to an opinion, i found him duller than dull but I m a newer viewer.

GH didnt lose him, he chose to leave.

I know did not fired him, but they did not go out way to stop him from leaving either. Yes new viewers must take note, that jason morgan was a popular character on gh. Whether my opinion or yours, he still a popular soap actor.

I completely agree, Rob.

By the way lose and fired are two different things. Lose in the soap world: they left over contract dispute, etc. Fired means they terminate their contract or wrote off

Very happy for him. He got the deal he wanted. He can have his family in Tennessee and still get to act. Can’t wait for January 29.

So which is it Steve? You quit for the family time or not. In your interview with SID/October your quote: My choosing to leave was completely my own decision. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING ELSE. IT WASN’T A MONEY ISSUE OR A SCHEDULING ISSUE. IT WAS JUST THAT THE DOOR FINALLY OPENED FOR ME TO MOVE MY FAMILY TO TN AND WE WENT THROUGH THE OPEN DOOR. IT WAS AS SIMPLE AS THAT”

On The Talk you claim Jill gave you the best of both worlds. (more time with family). I thought “scheduling” wasnt the reason you left? So which is it?

Family time and moving to TN had nothing to do with you leaving. Your mind was alrready made up the minute Jill went to Y&R. You were outta there. Even if GH HAD given you a good deal (and maybe they did) , you would not have stayed anyway. You did not like working for FV. Plain and simple.

And this more family time stuff? It sure sounds good to the GH fans. The reason tugs at their hearts. How can you complain about that. But in reality, here’s what I see:

You have the gig at Y&R working in LA (far, far away from TN and family)

You have the gig with Jill/Franco working in LA with YOU producing and starring in (far, far away from TN and family)

And you have Port Chuck. You touring around the country (using your DARK/VACA days to do this instead of staying home with the wife and kids if they were so important to you. You don’t need the money.

My advise to you, don’t go on anymore talk shows trying to explain yourself. Fans aren’t stupid they know the score. Oh wait…..maybe some are stupid, like the ones who bought your Monavie, the 90 day challenge, spend $250 to see Port Chuck?

Hey Betty why do you think I said he has a career in politics! Lol!

Also if it is important enough to everybody look at the timeline JFP get’s the post at Y&R July 2012 in August 2012 SB announces he is leaving GH! I wonder how much back biting is going on over there we have a large number of male egos over there. Let the games begin!

Betty, this was a great post! I think that SB did not like that he was no longer front and center every single day and did not want to participate in the “ensemble” feel (which a good soap SHOULD be!) that GH has taken on. So he went with someone he knows will give him as much screen time as he wants. If it was about scheduling, it could have easily been worked out. Frank and Ron have done it for numerous GH actors, including Kimberly M. who left, just as SB had. For people to say that he doesn’t owe fans, General Hospital fans, an explanation is ridiculous. Yes, it is HIS decision, but he shouldn’t have said it was for his family. He should have said he wanted to pursue other projects, change up his profession a bit, or he could have said he simply wanted to go work with JFP more, if that was the reason. He should not have said it was a family oriented move when it clearly was not, as you pointed out. The only reason he is successful and had a steady job for over two decades was because of fans- the least he could do in return is show a little bit of respect by being honest.

First of all, how dare you tell him to stay at home with his famliy, you
know nothing about his life. And so what if he quit because he doesn’t like his boss, my god how dare he do that. SB has every right to go where ever he wants. By the way he didn’t lie, did you miss the part where he actaully moved. And calling people stupid because they
spend money to see Port Chuck is a rotten thing to do.

I’m glad that steve burton is coming to the young and the restless, gh lost is y&r gain, jill phelps is smart producer and josh griffith can write this wonderful actor a meaty tale. Look out genoa city, dylan is heading to town!

I love Jason Morgan! I doubt if I will like him on Y&R. Steve Burton will always be Jason Morgan. Now we know that Jason is gone, I hope GH replace Steve Burton, the character of Jason Morgan not on the show leaves a big void on the show!

i don’t care… i don’t watch Y&R. You know when Roger Howarth left OLTL years ago for some other soap, I watch him just a couple of times – just to see – and then that was that. I wasn’t into that other soap.

i won’t however watch Y&R just to see Steve… and really don’t care about any joint efforts with James Franco. Liked him on Spiderman, but eck! that jaunt on GH was horrible!

Christy their is something just creepy about James Franco! I sure would not hitch my wagon to him.

Where is ABC promoting their anytime schedule? The Way confetti flew was such a contrast to ABC who made no effort to promote even save AMC. And OLTL . There IS an audience for daytime, promote the shows at night people will TIVO and DVR good drama. Hat OLTL was cancelled STILL shocks me it was by far the best show on daytime, really on TV!

Good for Mr. Burton, going with a network who will appreachiate him. Best of luck, Mr. Burton! Go where you are embraced!

He will be missed on GH. I loved Sam and Jason together. I do wish him all the luck in the world.

I think it’s great that CBS has accommodated his wish be to bi coastal and to keep his family in Nashville.

Now he’s just a liar with no loyalty for his fans. Screw him.

He did not lie, he was approach by jill to work Y&R

I think no matter how good he is on a soap people will always see him as jason. I think he can do anything he wants he is an amazing actor but 21 years on GH it will be hard not to see Jason.

I really don”t care about Y&R I don’t watch the show. I just hope the TRUE GENERAL HOSPITAL fans continue to watch GH even if they do join the dark side. GH really should RECAST Jason. Just think back to all of the recast GH has had. Carly, Maxie, Nicholas, Michael, Kristiana, Morgan etc…I am sure the TRUE GENERAL HOSPITAL fans can help me out with that one.
By the way, Sheryl on The Talk,.. Really…..Get a grip….what you did was so not necessary…Really?

WHat a slap in the face to ABC and GH fans. Yes its his life. But like me and other fans we were loyal to him for over 20 years. Now he has jumped into another soap and another channel. Doesnt seem right. I wont follow him either.

Too bad you left GH…what a shame!!!!

I can not believe that Steve Burton is going on to another soap opera. To me he is just a
tradior. If he was so concerned about his family how come he is going to tour with his band.
I have lost all respect for him as an actor and will never watch the Young and the resless!!!!

Not intrigued. Frankly, I wish Avery would leave. She is so boring. She spends more time cooking than lawyering. The show has not overgone the great overhaul I hoped it would with new people at the helm. Some things have been fixed, others gone up in smoke. Literally. Show is still not that great and does not deserve to be number 1.

I think it’s kind of ironic that The Talk is “excited” about a soap story when they themselves replaced a soap didn’t they?

Well, he is an actor wanting to practice his craft and playing the same character for 20+ years, especially one as removed and stiff as Jason Morgan, probably got pretty boring. I think its an exciting time and can’t wait to see how he’s going to play this new character on Y&R.

General Hospital’s Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Falconeri) opened up about the burgeoning love triangle forming between his Port Charles alter-go, Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) after recently aired scenes, plus his hopes for the future of a Dante and Liz pairing, during his appearance on the Sunday, April 23 edition of the That’s Awesome podcast with Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli).

On last week’s episodes of GH, Ric has made the decision that he wanted to propose to his ex-wife, only when he showed up at Elizabeth’s front door, he misread the scenario he walked in with Liz tending to Dante’s injured leg from the softball game. From there, the legal eagle’s jealous streak is reemerging which may cause him to act out and do something unforgivable, or will he take the high road? Stay tuned.

Speaking with Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson about where Elizabeth stands in the annals of the long-running soap, Zamprogna said, “She’s up there with Steve and Maurice (Maurice Benard) as one of the most legacy-filled people on the show.”

HOW DANTE AND ELIZABETH CAME ABOUT

Dominic jokes it’s a far cry for where Dante and Elizabeth previously, recalling, “We had some scenes together years ago and we were both laughing. Becky’s like, ‘Well, I guess we’re not going be paired up anytime soon.’ I remember we laughed immediately after they yelled ‘cut,”‘and said to each other, ‘Well, so much for that!'”

Fast-forward to early 2025 and as Zamprogna remembered it, “Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) came up to me at the General Hospital Christmas party, and I think it was a year and a half ago and she said, ‘We’re going to have you in scenes with Elizabeth,’ My internal monologue is going, ‘I’m not with Lulu (Alexa Havins) anymore and Sam’s (Kelly Monaco) gone, so maybe they want to see if this works.’ I didn’t want to get scenes with Becky and try to find the chemistry. I just wanted to play whatever honestly was written and came across for both of us and hope it was what people liked, and I don’t know if it is … or not.”

Knowing how beloved Elizabeth is to the GH faithfuls, Zamprogna added, “She got a big fan base with Ric … and a big fan base with with Jason … and you know, you’re going to piss somebody off. But, didn’t Ric drug Elizabeth and put Carly in a panic room?”

DANTE AND ELIZABETH PAIRING COULD STIR UP STORY FOR OTHERS IN PORT CHARLES

In closing, Dominic felt that the wide-reaching tentacles of a Dante and Elizabeth relationship is something he is 100% down for. “The triangle thing; I was happy to hear it was with Ric and her, because I felt it’s important to have her the top of it as opposed to Dante, Lulu and Elizabeth.”

Zamprogna added, “When you get into relationships on a soap, things seem to fizzle out a little bit, The buildup is what’s the fun part, and the getting to know each other, and the people who are affected by this coming together. When with this case it’s going to affect: Ric, Sonny, Lulu. There’s so much more story here. To me, it’s going to be a fun story to play.”

GH and OLTL Alum Patrick J. Gibbons Reveals the Story Behind Writing Trina’s Song on ‘General Hospital’ (Exclusive)

Patrick J. Gibbons

At the conclusion of today’s August 21 episode of General Hospital, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) sings a lullaby to baby Dez, that went into a montage to close out the episode as her father Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) reports to Pentonville and winds up in his jail cell.

However, in a fun fact, the song entitled, “A Lonely Heart To Give” was actually written by none other than former One Life to Live and General Hospital actor, Patrick J. Gibbons.

Daytime fans first met Gibbons as Sam Manning on One Life to Live. At the time, when he started on the soap, he was just 5-years-old. Gibbons played the part from 2010-2013 on ABC and Prospect Park’s editions of the show. Fast-forward to 2018, Gibbons shows up on General Hospital as Wyatt Hoover, the scout who seemed always be injured, but in the thick of the drama. Patrick had appeared on GH multiple times as Wyatt including: 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023.

FROM HIS GRANDMOTHER’S DEATH CAME THE INSPIRATION FOR HIS SONG

Now in 2026, General Hospital fans are getting to learn about another side of Gibbons’ talent as a songwriter and guitar player after “A Lonely Heart to Give” debuted today! Michael Fairman TV caught up with Patrick, who is now a senior at Penn State entering his final year as a finance major, to get the back-story of how his song wound up on GH!

Gibbons explained he wrote the song in honor of his grandmother who passed away a few years ago with whom he was, very, very close with. “Randomly, my grandmother had a downfall and passed away during the second semester of my sophomore year. I was in my dorm a lot and I was just playing with my guitar. And at the time, I was really into finger-style playing. I wrote the lyric and music to it (with a little help from my guitar teacher Lou), and my mom showed the rough demo to Frank Valentini (EP, General Hospital). He’s like an uncle to me. Frank loved it so much he said, “Finish that up. I want to hear the whole thing, and I want it on the show.”

MAKING MUSIC FOR GENERAL HOSPITAL

Gibbons and his parents took the next steps! “So now, all we needed was a female voice, because I thought that would fit the song well,” Patrick shared. “At the golf club we go to my parents were at a dinner. They liked the singer that was performing and spoke to her about the song, and she says she would like to bring it to her ‘boss’ who ended up being Eric Bazilian of the Hooters fame!” (Bazilian also wrote the smash hit song “One of Us” for Joan Osborne).

Next, “We went in the studio and recorded it and the song came together and it was beautiful. We loved it. They loved it at General Hospital and now they’re putting it the show and they are coming in with a piano, instead of a guitar. Paul Glass, the GH musical director, has been keeping us updated over the last six months of how it was coming along, and when it would air, and how GH put their own arrangement to it. I can’t wait to see and hear what they did with it.”

PATRICK’S ONE LIFE TO LIVE FAMILY

Everyone knows that the One Life to Live extended family share a very tight bond, and Patrick said he does stay in touch with a few of his former One Life to Live co-stars, especially those from the Manning family! “I stayed in touch with Kassie DePaiva (ex-Blair) and sent her little videos here and there. She was like my second mom for five years. We keep in contact with Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr) over X the most, and she can’t believe how big I’ve gotten. Like, none of them can! (laughs). I also loved working with Roger Howarth (ex-Todd) and Trevor St. John (ex-Todd and Victor Jr.), and to me since I was so young, they were just my friends, ‘Roger and Trevor,’ not Todd Manning or Victor Jr.”

It was a trip to California and a visit to Port Charles that ultimately led to Gibbons second soap role of Wyatt Hoover. Patrick explains, “In 2016, Frank Valentini invited us out to Los Angeles to visit the set of General Hospital. I think he heard me say, ‘This is so much fun. I miss being on the set.’ He goes, ‘You should come out. I’ll bring you on the show. We can make you a character.'”

A few years later, Patrick’s dream became a reality! “Then, by the summer of 2018, I was playing Wyatt, the scout, and shared scenes with Wes Ramsey (Peter August), and the best was when I shared a scene with Roger Howarth and Michael Easton (ex-John, OLTL and ex-Silas, Finn et al, GH), it was like chemistry from the old days.”

IT’S ALL IN THE NUMBERS

As to his future aspirations, it’s a career in the finance game that has piqued Gibbons’ real-life interest. But never say never to a return to acting. Patrick explained, “I’ve always enjoyed numbers. And on top of that, one of the biggest parts of finance is being personable and outgoing.”

He continued, “That’s one of the greatest skills I developed growing up. I really love the markets. I’m super interested. I’m never going to close the door to acting. I’m always open to that because I just love it so much. It’s such a great art.”

Take note! If there are any investment bankers or private equity folks among the GH faithful looking for a young analyst next year, Patrick’s DMs are open. You can find him on X at @PatrickJGibbons.

So, what did you think of the song sung by Trina on today’s GH that was written by Patrick J. Gibbons? Did you enjoy Patrick’s performances as One Life’s Sam and GH’s Wyatt? Would you like to see him back on GH at some point? Let us know via the comment section.

‘General Hospital’ Alum Chad Duell Admits That He Didn’t Expect the Role of Michael Corinthos to be Recast, and Would Consider Working on Another Soap (Exclusive)

Published

Chad Duell, the Daytime Emmy-winning actor, who stepped away from the pivotal role of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, opened up about: his previous decision to leave the series after nearly 15 years, where’s he’s at now after time away from the demands of a daytime soap opera, and took a stroll down memory lane with some of Michael’s most-acclaimed storyline during his run, during a livestream chat on August 19 on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel.

Viewers last saw Duell on-screen as Michael in January of 2025, and with his successor in the role, Rory Gibson making his debut at the GH Nurses’ Ball in episodes that aired later in May. It was clear that during the conversation, Chad was a bit surprised that the GH brass decided to recast him when he thought he was just taking some much needed time off.

Burn-out of the daily grind of being on a soap was definitely a part of Chad’s decision to take a break. Duell explained “People know when you’re doing something for so long or your character is kind of in the same place for so long or doing the same stuff over and over again, you do get a a little burnt out, you get a little stiff, stale, a little stiff at times. I didn’t want that to be any sort of lasting impression. I have 15 years of a body of work of I’ve done on that show, which is fantastic.”

WHILE CHAD WAS AWAY GH RECAST MICHAEL CORINTHOS WITH RORY GIBSON

Chad shared, his mindset when leaving GH was, “I’m taking some time away, we’ll see what happens.” Then he added, “Obviously, they decided to go in a different direction with Michael when I was gone. I didn’t think they were going to bring somebody back in my place. But you know, it’s the business. You never know what can happen.”

Duell also shared he has not watched a single episode of General Hospital since he left the series, but now feels he reenergized following the loss of his father and stepping away from the GH, “I’m in a place now mentally, where I’m ready to sink my teeth into it again.”

Even though he is no longer Michael on GH, Chad was very happy with his final storyline where Michael was set on fire when a bomb exploded at Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) penthouse. “It was fun to put him in a dangerous situation, because I was wanting Michael to be in something scary instead of trying to be a hero character or just things happening around him, but to be the center point of tragedy happening to him. (I always saw) Michael as the heart of the (Corinthos) family.”

When Michael was badly burned the show chose not burn his face, which normally a soap does when they are recasting role and switching actors. Chad weighed-in, “They didn’t burn my face because I told Frank Valentini (EP, GH) I’m willing to come back. It was just a little bit of a break. So, I assumed that if they would have burned my face, they could have brought somebody back looking different than me… if that’s what their plan was.”

MEMORABLE MICHAEL STORYLINES

One of Chad’s most memorable performances was the in the storyline of Michael’s rape while he was sentenced to prison in 2010 and the confession of it in 2011. “It was so well-written and I was very nervous,” recalled Chad. “When I get really nervous about something, it ends up being really good when I do it, because it just means I care a lot about it”

“I have to put a lot of effort and work into it, and I really want it to be good.  I was working with Dominic  Zamprogna (Dante) and Steve Burton (Jason) a lot during those scenes, and Laura Wright (Carly). It was great working with Steve and Dominic, especially, during that storyline.

A NEW SOAP ROLE FOR CHAD?

As to a future soap opera role, Chad is open to the idea and would love to jump back in to a juicy role, “I know people over at The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless. They know that if they’re interested, I would love to come in for a screen test or something, and they can see what I’m doing.”

Meanwhile, Chad has been busy putting out new music under the moniker Duelly and during the interview he explains how he creates his EDM tracks and much more. You can stream his latest single, Static in the Quiet Room on Spotify, Apple Music and You Tube Music.
