Steve Burton Confirms His Exit From General Hospital
Steve Burton has spoken and after so much speculation, the two-time Daytime Emmy-winning star has confirmed he is out as General Hospital’s Jason Morgan.
In his post on his Instagram account on Tuesday, Steve shared that he was let go by the ABC daytime drama series due to their vaccine mandate and that even though he applied for medical and religious exemptions those were denied. Thus, he has to exit his role.
In story, viewers saw on Monday, that Jason is MIA from being under the rubble of the cave that collapsed in Jason’s attempt to apprehend Peter August (Wes Ramsey).
In his post, Burton shared the following: “I know there has been a lot of rumors and speculations about me and General Hospital and I wanted you to hear it from me, personally. Unfortunately, General Hospital has let me go because of the vaccine mandate. I did apply for my medical and religious exemptions and both of those were denied, which, you know, hurts, but, this is also about personal freedom to me. I don’t think anyone should lose their livelihood over this. But with that being said, you know me. I’ll always be grateful for my time at General Hospital I love it there. I grew up there. I grew up with some of you, so I will always be grateful and I believe when one door closes multiple doors open. That’s always been my perspective, so I am excited to see what the future brings. ”
Steve went on to say, “Maybe one day when these mandates are lifted, I can return and finish my career as Jason Morgan. That would be an honor, and if not, I am going to take this amazing experience, move forward and be forever grateful. I have got to say, that I am forever grateful for your love and your support over the years. It means so much to me. Thank you. I don’t know when my last airdate is. It may have aired or it might be tomorrow or the next day. I am not sure. I want you guys to have an awesome Thanksgiving. I know it is hard, maybe, in this type of situation to be thankful or grateful, but we have so many things to be thankful about. Being grateful really is the key. Love you guys.”
The popular actor began his run as GH’s Jason Quartermaine back in 1991. Later in 1995, after a car accident he had a major personality shift and became Jason Morgan. Burton went to Y&R to play Dylan McAvoy for a four-year stint from 2013-2017, before heading back to his home at GH.
A source close to the show told Deadline that Burton’s last tape date was October 27th.
You can watch Steve’s video announcement below on his GH departure.

Just like Jonathan Jackson before, GH fires a good actor (Greg Vaughn) or creates a lesser character (Billy Miller), to have the big star return, only for that big star to mess things up. People leave – I’m totally good with that. But if you’ve already replaced them, let them stay gone.
Greg Vaughan played a good character on GH…. problem was that character didn’t have any real resemblance to Lucky Spencer. Might have been interesting if they had figured out a way to keep him on GH at the time (definitely NOT the “long lost twin” gimmick) but it freed him up to move to Salem. And while he didn’t originate the role of Eric Brady, he’s definitely a better fit for that part than he was as Lucky 2.0 (yeah, I know he’s technically the third, but that other guy was too embarrassing to even talk about).
Now that said…. I’m not all that happy that Eric will be trying to evict me from his mother when he returns to Salem.
Looks like Monica’s going to the large section of her closet reserved for funerals for her children.
When Jason “died” the last time, AJ showed up alive the week later. When Billy Miller started (Jake, presumably Jason at that point) AJ died for likely the final time. Now, with Jason likely once again “dead”, welcome home Drew.
I want Jason Morgan back;forever. There’s no Sonny without Jason. Sonny and Carly belongs together, NOT Jason and Carly:(
Would love for he and Jessica Collins to return as Avery and Dylan, they can connect with Chris and Paul as their mentors
Y n r needs smart responsible characters, maybe have Phyliss in on that too and put her at odds with her sister. Phylis really needs something to do besides rehashing old tired past loves.
Hell no. I don’t want SB on #yr. If he did, I’d stop watching.
Agree
If in Y&R budget I think he will end up back at Y&R. I think he was well liked over there. Plus maybe Doug Davidson can get back on the show.
The budget’s not what it used to be. But Burton also can’t command top dollar any more. When he returned to GH after his Y&R sojourn, he no longer had the cushy filming schedule that JFP allowed in his earlier contracts – one of the reasons he moved his family back to CA.
I hated his storyline because it was terrible.
I would like that, too…..
NO no no. They were boring. I don’t think he’s that great an actor. Maybe it was the character.
Hell no! He & Dylan was a mess the first time around and majority of YR fans didn’t care for his character. Only reason he got the part was JFP’s pet.
Stick a pitchfork in this show…. it’s done. The last time they screwed over Jason in 2012 (for the benefit of their OLTL castaways), they damn near killed the show. Now they threw him under the bus again, to prop Whiny Heiny, which is even worse.
Heiny is not a lead. Neither is Frodd (no matter what name you call him) and neither is random AMC guy who we’re now supposed to pretend is Jason’s brother.
Steve Burton got himself fired from GH.
No. The criminal elites did. He stood up for medical freedom of choice.
He’s an EMPLOYEE. This is the real world and nobody is interested in breathing and swapping spit with someone who doesn’t understand the ramifications of COVID. He’s an ACTOR. He had his DREAM JOB. All he had to do was take a vaccine that 60% AND COUNTING of the US has taken and is continuously taking. We WILL get out from under this but not from people little like him and Ingo. Bye, Felicia.
Wow
Agreed
Agreed! I work for one of the biggest tech companies, we were given the option to get the vaccine or leave. In the US, 440 million have gotten one jab.
He needs to man up and support his 3 kids and wife. What a wimpp.
Criminal elites? That’s hilarious. People who believe in science is more accurate.
He can stand up for medical decisions, just as Disney/ABC had every right to let him go for not following guidelines.
That is such garbage straight from the Fox network of lies, propaganda and greed.
JJ – try to process reality here. Steve Burton was clearly told that if he did not get double vaccinated he would no longer be on GH. The man had the choice of either getting vaccinated or being let go.
This is not only happening on GH it is also happening on Y&R, B&B, DOOL, other tv show and on film sets. Some actors have made it clear they will not work with those people who are not vaccinated. Take an extremely long break from Qanon because your mind needs the rest
Well said, anne!
I can’t believe older legends at Y&R – e.g. Eric Braeden, etc would stand for that? Please….
What Ever
Your version is quite skewed. Steve Burton made a choice. I don’t agree with his choice. But how that is related to the characters of Peter, Austin, or Drew makes absolutely no sense.
As for the character of Jason – meh. They tried to make him more 3 dimensional when Billy Miller joined the show, but when SB said, I want back, they said FU BM and brought the single dimension back.
What it comes down to is entertain me. People who stop watching a show because an actor is fired by their own actions? Lame.
I am sorry to hear that Steve Burton is no longer on GH. But the powers that be made it very clear to Steve that no vaccines meant no longer being employed. Steve has to live with the choice he made.
anne
Maybe it was just an excuse to leave. I just lost my respect for him. I always thought he had more brains than that.
Anne,
He has to live and or die with his choices. He sure isn’t the heroic figure of a man I once thought he was. What a let down. I read somewhere that Britt and Austin (groan) will become a couple. Serves him right!
Hi Violet…And he certainly isn’t the Jason character who made sure to protect those close to him at the risk of himself sometimes. Most recently Britt when he saved her life and was there as moral support while medical professionals using science diagnosed her disease. Personally I won’t miss his character much except the Britt connection. “Stonecold” as an enforcer for Sonny and Carly confident has become boring over the years. And the mob part of GH I don’t like. What a waste of a character.
Not a real GH fan .Leave
I’m with you on this, Rose. Jason has become more zombified (if that’s a word) since his last return. There was hope for him with Britt, but Carly’s needs always come first. I’m proud of Britt for not undervaluing herself and settling for second place (or fourth since Sonny and Michael probably outrank her as well). But now, we’re going to have more of Carly clumping around mourning Jason and blaming everyone in sight. Didn’t we just do this when Sonny “died”?
Voilet – stop believing everything you’ve read. Will they become a couple? Maybe. But if you think it’s a done deal because you read it on some random website? Come on.
TV Jeff,
If you are referring to the Austin and Britt story. Of course I don’t believe it. I may be old but not naive and gullible. I just mentioned it cause I thought someone might find it interesting. I learned a long time ago to not believe everything you hear and only half of what you see. Served me well.
He seems perfectly willing to live with his choice. Did you see his post? No whining, just stated the facts and expressed his gratitude for the years he spent on GH and to his fans. He didn’t aim any arrows or try to throw anyone under the bus on his way out. He didn’t burn any bridges.
Steve was passive– he did the luv everyone etc..
Because he wants to return.
It seems like forever, that he’s been in the soap.
That is what he does, who he is, a soap actor..
So- he keeps the loving peace when stepping out..
Eventually, he will return.
(((( I’d bet Steve is madder than hell over the situation. And not so luving over it all.
I can envision him at home throwing a whatever with a big fk-you!
at ABC .. ahaa! ))
Steve could be welcomed back someday. Ingo on the other hand will likely never return.
Damn!!! This ish is just unreal!!
I am sad to see his character leave, he does bring a lot to the show. But GH is just make believe. The reality is that we are in a pandemic, and must work together to get through it and keep others safe. He has every right to refuse the vaccination, but the reality is that his choice makes him dangerous to be around. He will be missed.
Well said Cheryl.
The vaccine mandate is pure crap. The vaccine doesn’t prevent you from getting or spreading Covid – it is supposed to lessen your symptoms if you get it, and even then, that doesn’t happen with everyone. It isn’t even a vaccine – it’s gene therapy with spike proteins. Check out what’s going on over in Israel. I’m sorry to hear that you lost your job over this Mr. Burton. I hope to see you somewhere else soon.
Linda -please tell us all what university you got your medical degree from. Also, please tell us all the medical Center where you did your residency in Epidemiology.
Trump University Medical School?
Linda D. Kish
Call it what you like, its working and people like Steve Burton stubbornly refuse to see it. It is saving lives, certainly not his stupid principals. I feel sorry for his kids if he refuses them immunizations they need, growing up. It was over sixty years ago and the Salk vacine came out to prevent Polio. I was so scared to have my six month old vacinated but my Dr. convinced me it was the best thing to do. How many of you have seen someone in an Iron Lung, it ain’t pretty.
I have a very “smart” granddaughter who is recovering from Covid, who’s Fiance’ died a few days ago because they both refused to take the shots, as they were ” afraid of side effects”. Well, to me there is no greater side effect than death! People need to get their heads out of thee butts and stop risking their lives when we have a chance, a good chance to save them.
Wow Violet. I’m so sorry for your loss. That is horrifically terrible, and I hope that your family and granddaughter are okay. More than 98% of positive Covid cases in the hospitals are those who are unvaccinated. So much obscure information is circulating in so many different venues. I’m a doctor, and I fully respect personal freedom to choose how to approach one’s health care, but we are in a GLOBAL pandemic, and we need to take care of each other by getting ourselves vaccinated and do all of the public health precautions before more innocent lives are gone.
Margherita,
Thanks so much for your kind and wise words. Thankfully my girl is feeling a lot better but she’s just devastated with her loss and my heart breaks for her. I made her promise to get a shot when it’s time. We don’t live close so I have to trust her on this.
Thank you, Margarita!
I appreciate your expertise on the subject. Herd immunity is vital to getting this virus under control. Burton is demonstrating his lack of concern for his co- workers which included children, a pregnant actor and a co- star who is a cancer survivor. He is coming off as being entitled and selfish.
Violet, your comment is beautifully written and replete with historical significance. I appreciate your candor, and I’m sorry for your loss.
Harry,
Thank you for your kind words also. I just get so worked up over some people’s ideas of not doing the right and obvious thing to keep us all well. We are so lucky in this day and age to be given the necessary vaccines, drugs, etc.to fight what would have killed us years ago. I had pneumonia a lot as a child and had to take Sulfa drugs, no Penicillen then. We have so much that these people are spitting on and it makes me so sad. Sorry Harry, best of health to you.
Finally!!! Someone with some brain cells!!! Thank you!
JJ – I thought you had finally stopped paying attention to those semi-educated people on Qanon. Oh well, the only thing to do with people like you is to follow the example set by Austria.
I agree all but two people got covid even the vaccinated we all survived fine and i have a medical condition asthma took ivermectin and was cleaning my house after by the second day of taking the medicine i am 54. the kids were better in 1 week i didn’t even know they had it no fevers just a runny nose but two of us lost our sense of smell.
Leah – giving your kids ivermectin is irresponsible on your part. Taking the drug borders on stupidity especially as an asthmatic. Ivermectin products designed for humans are DIFFERENT from ivermectin products designed for animals. And the drug was designed to treat parasites which Covid is not.
I am interested to see if the reactions are different than to Ingo Radamacher’s firing for the same reason. While I am ambivalent and can see both sides of the argument now that it is a big star that most people like (I prefer Jax to Jason for the simple reason that Jason enables Carly and Sonny and Jax doesn’t!)… my guess is that this will be temporary and Jason will be back in time. It will be interesting to see what the storyline fallout is from his departure will be…
Another actor may replace Steve Burton as Jason
Been there, done that. Nobody’s going to believe Susan Moore had triplets.
I Agree
Big rumor is Trevor St. John, will be the new Jason.
let’s HOPE not… Trevor is top shelf, highbrow, AND creme de la creme . Laura Wright’ Carly ? Meh ? can’t throw her far enough… she finds her way back to the trough
Kind of find that hard to believe. TStJ was burned when Howarth returned to OLTL to reclaim Todd. Now, he might have been planning to leave, but Frank certainly helped push him in that direction.
Because of the Jason/Drew kerfuffle, viewers might find it hard accepting the new actor as Jason, thinking that Burton would return again as “The Real Greenlee”. Well, you know what I mean.
Trevor Saint John may be the only actor I know of who can pull off acting “ stone cold” while emoting vulnerability in his eyes.
Yes, he might be able to express the vulnerability with his eyes, but there are only one set of those Jason eyes and he doesn’t possess them. Steve can say more with his eyes than most actors can say reading a whole page of dialogue.
Would love to see Trevor Sant John as his recast!! Crossing my fingers.
Steve Burton : was so different, with Britta. he at last responded… something about KT” Brit TRIGGERED . astounded is putting it mildly. Steve Burton came to… out of the malaise of the entrapment that is; the dullard Sonny and Carly
that dead trio that all story culminates in a renewed family empowerment and that winsome twosome lovebird builds with bile… and alas, Stone cold, is; ? home alone
Steve Burton, was ALIVE… He no longer needed or should have been interested in ; sonny and carly
Trevor St. John… any actor , has his work cut out with TRYING to act.. w/Laura Wright… her smothering her only BFF , her only ally, her only confidant’… JEEZUS! bonkers for this job? she’s not even sexy or can act passionate… Oy
sonny and carly… it’s a good thing that @GH does not waste any time in letting us know they get naked.. and are to be, for all time… loving and sexual… BILE build up.
i just do not get , how the fan… stomach this ???? it’s an hour long drama… that is wasted … nothing came of this insipid try at fleshing out @Sonny as “Mike” Carly as the dark as she gets Queen of the night… Christ she sauntered in to the what ? 5 family stare down meetin’ NOTHING ! Christ all the hoopla… this should solidify how her character has no connect with any one… i’ll even give prop to how Joss and Michael look anxious with her.. bored.. and lack any emote worth noting.
Trevor St. John : oh god… he’s head and shoulders ABOVE Maurice Benard’…. he’ll have to stoop… obvious kowtow… look stupid taking direction with guns blazed. LOL
with jax and Jason GONE … this is a huge rah rah rah !!!! this fan of all the rest of General Hospital… is cheering from the sideline’
richard w griffin,
Yes, and speaking of Carly. Laughed at the way she came strutting into G.H today, dressed like she was ready for Kung Fu.
I believe in vaccines and believe the shot has prevented me from being sick as I work on a college campus. It is a mystery to me why our nation has not come together over this public health crisis. Once upon a time, the country embraced vaccines for polio, smallpox, rubella, and the flu.
I wish Mr. Burton and Mr. Rademacher well. I will miss their legacy characters on a show that needs them, but the show must go on and, powers that be, believe I (and I agree) vaccines are necessary for everyone’s good health going forward. Soaps used to recast characters and GH will need to do this here if story dictates.
Well said
Very well said lakovos. Thank you for reminding us of the real issue – a global public health crisis.
So Well Said!
Look not all is loss, maybe the show can refocus on some of its other talent while both Steve and Ingo take a break, I’m hopeful this covid nightmare will eventually end and we can all go back to being unmasked and no mandates for shots needed. It might not be tomorrow but down the line, for now the show has plenty of guys to concentrate on so I’m gonna be patient and enjoy whose on now and not on whose been fired or is gone. The shows got plenty of billionaires and bad boys so lets enjoy those guys.
I for one am glad that Steve is gone. Someone will replace him as Jason. Vaccines work and I’m proud to say that I’ve been vaxxed. They work as intended. If he’s willing to put his fellow co-workers at risk, then he shouldn’t have a job. Just my opinion and I stick by it.
Choices have consequences. He made his choice. Putting politics aside, I found his return to the show rather disappointing. It was almost as if he had lost his connection to the character. The only time I enjoyed his acting was when he was with Britt. He seemed stilted when he was initially with Sam and there was no chemistry between him & Carly. Given those reasons I won’t miss him this time around.
Of course they will recast with Trevor St John….brilliant recast…..sad to see Steve go but I believe in the vaccine!Good luck to him and his family!
And Nancy should’ve been let go for insulting and bullying anyone and everyone who doesn’t agree with her politics.
Agree with being put on a ventilator, if you’d prefer that. She didn’t get herself fired over a tribalist stance.
She hasn’t violated any corporate policies that we know of. She has a right to express her opinion regardless of who disagrees with it.
Going after a woman. Stay classy!
Women deserve equal rights. They also deserve to be criticized if they say something and someone disagrees with them!
Absolutely
So long, Burton. You should have followed the science and protected yourself and others. If only Benard and Wright had also refused to adhere to the vaccine mandate…
After posting, I realized that my last sentence, though made in jest, was too harsh. I am indeed thankful that Benard and Wright HAVE adhered to the vaccine mandate. I am simply no fan of their characters and decades-long prominence on GH. I applaud any and all, in soaps and elsewhere, who have been responsible and intelligent enough to get the Covid vaccine. That choice should be heralded. I wish that even more people would do so…
Jamesj75…I wish more people would get the vaccine, too. Those who haven’t are holding the rest of us back. Will like the day when I can listen to local and national news where you don’t have to hear the new, hospitalized, deaths because of coved everyday. Like the daily weather report or sport scores. And thanks all of those who have followed the precautions like masking, social distancing, and vaccinations. Have a good Thanksgiving. And for fun watch the Macy’s parade.
rose, thank you for your reply. You are right when you say, “Those who haven’t are holding the rest of us back.” We could have been in such better shape by now if only the misguided, misinformed vax-deniers followed the science (aka reality). Yet, as you also indicate, we should be thankful for those who have “followed the precautions.” Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones, Friend.
You know, jamesj75, I know the way your heart leans, so no need to even apologize for the “if only” remark. I subscribe to the philosophy of the ladies from “Steel Magnolias”, “If you can’t say anything nice about someone, come sit by me.” Of course, these days, one has to be careful about who we’re sitting next to. I still can’t believe the arguments proferred about not getting vaccinated. It truly frightens me. I often feel I’m living in a parallel universe… but one I don’t remotely recognize anymore. Regarding Jason, I won’t miss him this time because I feel he’s totally surrendered his entire life to Carly; I barely see “Jason” anymore. I do, however, miss Billy Miller every day. This new whining Drew just isn’t the same. Between all this, Peter the Puke, and the new low of Sante (Dasam?), I’m really bored these days. Thank heaven for sweet, gorgeous Chase, firecracker Britt, and the indomitable Liesl. Cheers, James!
Thank you for your reply, Soaphound, and your graciousness… It is shocking, however, about the “parallel universe” in which we live. The careful and thoughtful among us can only navigate the best we can. I further appreciate (and agree with) your GH commentary. Once “Jason Morgan” took over, I could never warm up to this character, and I kept hoping he would one day return to his former self. Happy Thanksgiving, Friend!
Has everyone forgotten why Britt’s co-workers called her the Britch? Kelly is a great actress but Britt was a well played loathsome character who did despicable things. I’m all for people turning over a new leaf but her overnight transformation for the sole purpose of pairing her with Jason just turned my stomach. I hate that GH is losing the real Jason again but at least I’ll be spared watching her with him. They just need to let Brad out of prison so she has someone to hang with.
gh#1,
Have you not noticed how tptb change Character’s character? I know we don’t forget how they once were but hopefully we can welcome the new changes. Liesel is not the horrible person she once was and even seems to get along with Anna whom she hated with a passion. I never liked Brad but a lot of viewers do, so be it, a shoulder for Britt to cry on. Even after all the things she’s done, I like her now and can’t wait to see her next love interest.
Sad day for GH fans. I am done watching until they hire SB back. GH ratings will plummet. Watch and see. There may be many that are glad these two were fired for not complying but let me assure you there are a ton of us that don’t like it one bit that these two actors who have each been on GH over twenty years were fired for this. Is this the USA or USSR?
You tell us what country it is. Your conservative lunacy is a Russian construct, all misinformation all the time. No ratings will plummet because of two numbskulls, but because GH can’t plot fake drama that gets the show as much press as what’s generated by real life scandals.
Gorbachev,
Thank you for saving me all the time I was wondering how to respond to Michael. He sure thinks he’s so important that he and a few other idiots think GH will come to its knees because a couple of actors are fired in order to keep the rest of the cast and crew safe. No one is indispensable and if we get a new Jason or none, so be it. There is so much more to worry about these days like keeping yourself and families safe. Happy Thanksgiving!
This is the USA, where we are supposed to care about our neighbors and do what’s best for our community. GH ratings are likely to rise as viewers are intrigued what happens to Jason and those who care about him.
Disney is a private employer and made a choice. Not sure what this has to do with USA vs USSR. And you do know the USSR hasn’t existed for decades, right? As for ratings – nothing significantly changes the ratings except one thing and it’s not additions or subtractions. It’s time. The fact that over time less people are watching.
if only – this were, the death knell ; the Sonny and Carly Show
w/Jax – and – Jason … gone
Sonny is still “Mike”
Carly had her mob queen 1 day run where she exchanged “glances” w/the big wig meetin’
Please, beyond beg !!!! do not let Trevor St. John be any where in LW’ Carly bubble. if that goes to Cameron Matthison’ Drew… so be it.
AFTER 4 years of Wes Ramsey AND his lover Laura Wright WITH Frank Valentini in their corner yield what ? stink on shit; ménage à trois; the spiral of GH… I want these three to know.
“that would be within “HIS” right, now wouldn’t that…” ONE step forward TWO steps back… OUR country deserves to be … in the front line… thriving… keeping up with the world. as you and I, march onward… that “one” step is selfishly waylaying , ALL our LIGHT !!!! it’s like watching all the unvaccinated , stifle us all… so many of us are not in that position… I do not care one iota… if he’s “FIRED !!!! ” I will not even blink… as his superstar emmied ass… now has to “make money” doing corporate jingles AND/OR greetings for those DUMB ENOUGH to give him minimally, what ? 150 bucks ? I see this as the start of the END !!!! the Sonny and Carly Show. @GH has been so wasted and frittered. “Shame”
Unless they find a way to reverse this disastrous decision, you can bet your soul that ABC will be pulling the plug on this show permanently on April 1, 2023, the 60th anniversary. And what you see between now and then will probably be even worse than the hollow shell of a show that it was between 2012 & 2017 – the last time they threw Jason under the bus to prop their newbies. They made a decent attempt with Billy Miller as a stand in “Jason”, but he never seemed quite right… and of course now we all know why.
Whiny Heiny, Frodd 3.0 and (doesn’t even remotely look like) Drew are even less likely to carry the show than the idiots they were propping in 2012. It’s time for the Valentini regime to end once and for all, and bring in some show runners who know what made General Hospital great in the first place. And by that, I mean pretty much anything between 1977 – February 2012 (except for that period in the early 90s with Casey the Alien and the Eckert cousins trying to replace the actual Spencers… those years are best left forgotten)
One man does not make a show. GH survived just fine when a “leading” man departs… Tristan Rogers and Jack Wagner in the 90s, Burton and Tony Geary last decade. Burton left in 2012 because JFP agreed to his contract demands which allowed him to move his family to Tennessee. After she left Y&R, gone was the chance of him getting those generous terms.
At this point, given a choice of Frank’s crew or the disastrous last years of Phelps/Guza, I’m sure most of us here would stick with Frank. Yes, the mob is still present, but there’s more balance, with the Qs driving story and stories featuring POC to give two examples. Yes, Heinrik needs to die a permanent death and Carly needs to chill.
I will agree that Easton and Howarth aren’t adding a lot of value right now, but those characters are interacting with legacy players, which makes them a bit more palatable.
Satan-GH survived Luke and Laura Spencer, super couple that never should have existed, leaving in 1983. GH also survived Casey the Alien, the Eckerts and other story lines. GH will survive Jason Morgan leaving as well. And Steve Burton threw himself under the bus by refusing to be double vaccinated.
They survived the departure of Luke & Laura because they had Robert & Holly and Frisco & Felicia… so same formula.. supercouples with adventure storylines. But eventually they all left too and that’s when you had the forgettable & regrettable years with Casey & the Eckerts. And how did they rescue GH from that slump? Two things: The return of Luke & Laura, and a new character named Sonny Corinthos.
Difference is back then, ABC had big budgets for the storylines, and people in charge of the show who were committed to General Hospital. Not some half-assed mutation of One Life to Live (which seems to be including a lot of AMC lately). The only thing Frank seems committed to doing is propping his newbies… who are really thinly disguised versions of their OLTL or AMC characters… at the expense of what remains of the actual GH cast. Which just lost another two major characters. Jax isn’t really all that essential, so they can arguably move on without him. Jason is entirely another story. And poor Monica… how’s she supposed to keep track of which one of her sons are dead and which ones are alive anymore. You can tell her AJ is still in Hell, so she can be sure of that. Jason is NOT here, and I’m sure nobody thinks he made it upstairs, given his occupation, so I think we can assume he somehow survived that cave in. His return is a matter of “when”, not “if”. Just hope it’s not in recast form, and definitely NOT the rumored OLTL castoff (who really should know better, after his previous experience as a recast on that show, thrown under the bus when what’s his name came back)
Good for him! Medical freedom is being stripped away from all of us. So awesome to see him and Ingo, and hopefully others, stand their ground!!
JJ-your medical freedom works both ways. Those who are vaccinated HAVE THE RIGHT to refuse to work with those who are unvaccinated. So far, ONLY Steve and Ingo have refused vaccinations AND now they have been fired. FYI some judges are ignoring the wishes of parents like you and giving sixteen year old teens permission to be vaccinated.
He did seem “the odd man out” when he was on The Talk’s soap episode. Was it just me or did he seem seated further off than the rest. Of course I did watch it after hearing he had left GH. Doesn’t CBS have the same policy regarding vacanation as ABC?
No, CBS does not have the same stance as ABC. CBS requires regular testing and mask wearing when not on set.
Maybe Steve Burton should go back to Y&R. That way he can work with people who don’t object to him not being vaccinated.
I can’t believe that Y&R would risk having SB near their many older legends such as Eric Braeden, etc.? I find this highly unlikely.
Let me fix that for you Steve: “General Hospital has let me go because unfortunately, I’m an a$$”.
He got Covid. I thought he was vaccinated. I guess not. His decision.
Well, I’m disappointed to see Steve go. His body, his choice. He decided not to get the vaccine. His employer has a policy in place that he must adhere to. Whether you agree or not, the decision has been made. He is a character who is used in lots of stories. There just isn’t anyone who can fill Steve’s shoes. Peter, Valentin, Howarth’s new character, Michael, NuNick, Drew or Chase, NONE of them can step up and be a lead. They are all supporting actors. GH is in some trouble. BUT, I will not abandon the Haunted Star, greener pastures will always prevail!
Well, the Haunted Star has been abandoned since Lulu became a vegetable… and now the name “Spencer” is rarely mentioned, except for Nikolas’s bratty kid. I don’t expect to ever see Luke again, but the rest of the family definitely needs to come back. While it’s true that Carly & her kids are genetically Spencers, they rarely if ever acknowledge the fact.
Steve Burton is an awesome man and very kind…I wish him and his family nothing but the best and maybe one day he will return to GH….
The Guy is a jerk. Just getting on TV does not mean the guy is smart, nor decent. He is merely opportunistic and self centered. Burton good riddance.
I’m sorry, do you know him personally?
Lets get real he doesn’t want to inject himself with the vaccine for whatever reason, “choice”? “religious reason”? yeah right like we are suppose to think he’s that pumped up natrually from just lifting weights? come on now, maybe now GH will realize you can’t put all your eggs in one basket, spread the love, there’s plenty of guys on the show. So no, rating won’t go down, the show won’t get cancelled and to all those claiming they will not ever watch the show please stop you know your dumb asses are tuning in daily and that you love to complain because otherwise you would not have anything better to do.
aria,
Love your comments and so true. I liked Jason as much as anyone, but this guy/character is not indispensable. I think Drew, at least I hope has more ethics than to be a hit man. I could never imagine Billy Miller doing it and I consider him a “lead” although he didn’t crash through any ceilings or wed his boss’s wife on command. Drew had integrity and hope the new Drew inherited it. Chase could be more, if given the chance.
Look at the ratings went all the way down to 3.7 . No not playing at all and the following weeks it will get worse just watch.
I want Steve Burton back; now. I don’t like the story lines now and especially without my Jason. Jason belongs with the nurse, NOT Carly!
I was Steve Burton/Jason back!

Rosie O’Donnell Says She Will Return to ‘The View’ During its Season 30

Rosie O’Donnell revealed that she plans to head back to a seat at the table of ABC’s morning talk show The View.
The announcement came during Monday’s episode of The Tangle Podcast where she shared she will participate in “in whatever way they want” her or “just as a guest” for its upcoming 30th season.
The View’s season 30 will kick-off this fall in September. O’Donnell explained, “They’re bringing back all the hosts, I think. And, you know, I’m pretty proud of that show, what it’s become and how it really speaks to the people and to politics.”

ROSIE ON HER PREVIOUS GO-ROUNDS ON THE VIEW
As fans of The View know, O’Donnell famously had two different one-year stints on the talk show in 2007 and again in 2014- 2015. She often feuded with then co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck.
However, during her discussion with host, Kyle Ridley on The Tangle Podcast, O’Donnell also noted she often had tense moments with longtime moderator and anchor, Whoopi Goldberg.
O’Donnell also expressed, “Many, many people got the short end of the stick there. It was, you know, it was a factory where people were being churned in and out and their tenuous security, nobody got to be calm. It also was a show at the time that was run by a man. A show created by a woman, for women, about women, and the man was deciding what we should talk about. And that didn’t sit right with me, you know.”
Back in 2023, Brooke Shields had asked Rosie on her podcast, Now What? with Brooke Shields, about how she felt on her two stints at The View and all the controversy that surrounded it. Rosie at that time, stated, “I know this, it’s not the best use of my talent to get in a show where I have to argue and defend basic principles of humanity and kindness. It was not something I’d ever do again.”
You can check out the clip with Rosie and Kyle Ridley discussing her return to The View in some form for its upcoming 30th season below.
Then weigh-in: Would you be excited to see Rosie, even for a one-day or a week guest stint on the upcoming celebratory season of The View, or not so much? Let us know via the comment section.

Television Academy and NATAS Open Reunification Talks After Split Almost 50 Years Ago

In what could prove to be a massive shake-up ahead, both the TV Academy (ATAS), who presides over the Primetime Emmys, and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), who preside over the Daytime Emmys, are in exploratory reunification discussions to merge the two organizations into one.
Both sides received an overwhelming vote and support from their boards to evaluate what a unified Academy could look like. However there is no formal calendar at this juncture for the discussions. In addition, because of the ongoing unification talks that should occur, the TV Academy board has voted to extend all current sitting Governors’ terms by one year so they can see the process through.
Boards at both organizations voted overwhelmingly to evaluate what a unified Academy could make possible: a strong vision for the Academy’s future, more effective thought leadership for the industry, broader service and support for members coast-to-coast, and new momentum and opportunities across the full complement of national Emmy competitions.

AFTER NEARLY 50 YEARS, CAN THE EMMYS BE UNDER ONE BANNER?
In a joint statement, ATAS and NATAS shared, “Television remains the most powerful medium we have to shape culture and prompt conversations that define us—no matter the size of the screen, With the business of television undergoing such a monumental transformation, this is the right moment to explore a reunification of our Academies, providing our members and our industry with a bolder voice advocating for them and a stronger partner to navigate the future with them.”
If the reunification talks continue, this would be the first time since the two Emmy organizations split back on June 30, 1977 that they have tried to come together, all of this after almost three decades of often uneasy and strained tension between the two.
The most recent joint change came in 2022 when a move of the game show categories went from NATAS to ATAS’ and now are in the Primetime Emmys.
Deadline notes that a unification of the two television academies who overall preside over nighttime and daytime programming would be similar how SAG and AFTRA used to represent performers from completely different dayparts of work.
Could the Daytime Emmys finally see some love in primetime and have their major categories televised as part of the annual kudofest every September? Stay tuned.
Meanwhile, the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will take place live on Monday, September 14th starting at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT and air on NBC and stream on Peacock emanating from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. While, the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards will take place on Friday, October 30, time to be announced, live from the Hollywood Palladium and will be streamed on watchtheemmys.tv
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) is a service organization dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and the promotion of creative leadership for artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry. It recognizes excellence in television with the coveted Emmy Awards for News & Documentary, Sports, Daytime and Children’s & Family programming, as well as achievements in television Technology & Engineering.
The Television Academy (ATAS) strives to shape and advance the dynamic television landscape; cultivate a diverse, inclusive and accessible professional community; and advocate for the television industry while capturing the spirit of a new generation of content creators and industry professionals. Through innovative programs, publications and events, the Academy and its Foundation foster and empower storytellers. The Academy also celebrates those who excel in the industry recognizing their achievements through awards and accolades, including the renowned Emmy Award. Membership in the Academy is open to working professionals in the television industry.
So, would you like to see the Primetime Emmy and the Daytime Emmys fold into one show if the two unions reached a unification arrangement? Do you hope that after almost 50 years, the two organizations can finally make some serious headway? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
