Steve Burton Interview – General Hospital

General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason) chatted with Michael Fairman about his current heartbreaking storyline where Jason’s biological son, Jake, is in a hit and run accident and pronounced brain-dead following surgery, and the ramifications it has for Jason, Carly, Josslyn, Elizabeth & Sam.

I hate Jason. He treated his son like trash, he enjoys killing more than being a father. He should’ve kept his aging face away from that hospital and in Carly’s ass where it belongs.

She should have shared the child

Jason could have chosen to co-parent with Liz if he didn’t want to be with her.. she didn’t have to be included to be with his son to be a parent.

Elizabeth is the one that insisted and constantly told Jason over and over that his life is too dangerous to be around Jake

Jason loved Liz and Jake. He wanted to marry Liz but then Michael got shot and Jason got scared, which was completely understandable. Heck, even Carly kept Sonny from his sons many times because of the mob.
But Elizabeth is right, Jason chose to walk away from his little boy (while he raised Michael for how many years?). Elizabeth and Lucky are the ones that really lost a son. Rebecca and Jonathon gave emmy wiinning performances so did Steve.
If Carly killed Jason’s kid, I hope he goes scary on her!

Me too..it’s time for Jason to think of HIS life for a change. Sam makes him happy so he needs to take their relationship to a higher level. They are both beyond “boyfriend/girlfriend” crap. I just hope the rumors are true that he is going to ask her to marry him! Liz did not want to co-parent with Jason, in fact, she didn’t want Jason anywhere near Jake so he did what she asked of him. End of story.

What a pack of crock is been spew about GH, it is the worst show now killing Jake so that mob mistress could have a child is crude and TPTB will see it when the ratings drop and the Liason fan goes to another station and give their ratings to CBS or NBC. I haven’t watch GH since 2008 and has been looking at CBS and NBC. Jason is all about his mob family and never wanted a family with Liz because he wouldn’t be able to smell Carly’s Ass so GH can be canel and I will dance on… Read more »

WOW! So your saying that in order to be with Liz Jason should have quit his job and give up his best friend? Why couldn’t Liz quit her job and become more of a part of his life style? As for Jason never wanting a family with Liz, in the beginning of course he didn’t, it was one drunken night of sex that was not planned, they weren’t in a relationship or in love with each other but he did want to try but she kept saying his life was too dangerous for Jake to be in but they could… Read more »

Um because Liz is a nurse and Jason is a murderer? See, when you have kids you stop murdering people and hanging around the whore that wanted the kid dead. So yeah, Jason should have CHANGED. When you have a child you either grow the hell up or you’re a douche bag for life. Jason is the latter, and he and the mob whore who bring in the lowest ratings in GH history will sink this show as Frons continues to try ANYTHING to make them work including firing a better actress with a bigger fanbase and killing a child.… Read more »

Wow! I’m pretty sure that Liz new that Jason was a “murderer” when she climbed 16 flights of stairs in the dark to take advantage of a heartbroken, drunk man! Liz is the one who had 3 kids by 3 different guys and she has had more paternity tests then I can even remember! She’s a freakin cheater and a way bigger liar and manipulator than Sam has ever been on this show! I know these are all mute points, being that Jason is… Read more »

100% agree. When I think back to the BJ/Maxie story, it was the opposite…not the greatest acting (Not to say it was bad in any way, just not as good as these actors) but the storyline, the directing and vision was SOO much more powerful. I can still cry instantly when I think of Felicia falling to her knees when she realizes its BJ’s heart or when I think of Tony listening to his daughters heart beating inside Maxie…wow. Nothing will ever compare to that storyline.

I hope this s/l does make Jason reevaluate his life. I understand he loves his friendship with carly but is that the only friendship Steve Burton will ever acknowledge. Because I was sure Jason and Elizabeth were friends way before Jake came into the picture and I am postive that she has been their for him even when Carly betrayed him. So is it that he doesn’t acknowledge Liz and Jason’s friendship on purpose or because he doesn’t want to piss off JaXXX fans. He has more chemistry with Becky than anyone else on the show. Sam jumped out of the window of a building with Jake and stopped him from being blown up! I think she also demonstrated her remorse for what she did to Jake in the past by being prepared to fend off a Russian mobster without bullets at the cabin and giving Liz the gun with bullets to protect her sons and telling Liz to make a run for it, Jake is now dead because Liz was preoccupied with finding out who her latest baby daddy is…deja vu anyone…..so Jake is now dead and neither Jason or Sam can be blamed for… Read more »

Michael. I loved your Steve Burton interview. He is so likeable and fun, and shows his sense of humor which you never see on GH. I am surprised at all the fan bashing of Jason, Liz , Carly, etc. If you want to see something redeeming look at Jonathan Jackson’s performances in this story. What a spew of hatred toward Gh. Actors must be doing a terrific job to rile the haters like this. I don’t know what planet you live, but in everyday life people get shot, kids get killed. Great interview! Jake’s story and how it impacts Jason and Elizabeth is what brought me back to General Hospital after months of not watching. Steve Burton and Rebecca Herbst are doing an amazing job! I hope that Jake’s death will eventually lead to Jason and Elizabeth turning to each other to comfort each other and get through this, then lead them to rebuilding and being drawn back together. Well, the story has people talking. I’m not so sure it’s a good thing, but they’re talking. Notice how divided many are? Bringing up horrible and inconsistent writing for the sake of proving how the other woman is worse? How Jason either was forced by Elizabeth to leave or voluntarily became a deadbeat dad? Well, for whatever reason, Jason left and didn’t think of Jake more than a handful of times over the past 3 years. He spent time with every other child in PC, agonized over Michael to the point of obsession, but nary a thought when Elizabeth was… Read more »

Jason is going to re-evaluate his life? Well, if your son almost dying at birth along with his mother doesn’t pull your head out from under your arm pits then nothing will. How about when old Eddie Q. ran down Jake at the Carnival in 2009 right in front of Jason? How about when our little fire bug Cameron set Liz’s house on fire and Jake almost died? As I watch Jake dying I have to remind myself that it is just television and not real. However, who the hell wrote this crap??? Why did Jake have to die for Carly’s child? All this woman has done is cause trouble while dragging Jason around on a leash. Jason needs to grow a pair and cut her loose. Since this is just t.v. I think Jason and Liz should say no to Carly. Especially as Carly has always bad mouthed Liz. Carly needs to suffer.

I love how Guza/Frons/GH will finally have Jason eevaluate his life now that his son is dead. It shouldn’t have taken him this long to do that. It should have begun when Jake was first kidnapped or when he was kidnapped a second time or when he was injured at the carnival. This drivel is so agenda driven that it reeks. I have to be honest. I was young when the BJ/Maxie story played and NO way is this story close. I just don’t feel for any of the characters, Not Jason, Liz, or Carly.I feel these characters caused their own problems. Jason hasn’t been the real parent only the biological parent. I agree in part with this but from what i’ve seen EW does blame herself–a parent will always blame themselves in a case of this nature. He got away from her that happens all the time and is probably the most realistic thing about this s/l. What would we think if she didn’t want to know who killed her child, we’d really want to lynch her then. I do agree the s/l id disjinted and thrown together.

We’ve all seen Steve shed tears during emotional scenes. Given the lightning speed at which this ‘story’ is being told, I guess I should be impressed, but I’m not. I can’t imagine why anyone thinks this redux ( a poor one at that) is anything more than a stepping stone to the real goal, a baby for Jason and Sam, without any guilt for Jason. Unfortunately, Jake didn’t need to die for that. Jason’s been living quite guilt free for years while paying more attention to other peoples children than he did to his own son. I think that there is a pretty long line forming to smack “poor pitiful me” Liz’s face: The Spencer’s have every right to treat Liz like shit, She has spent 80% of her relationship with Lucky lying-my family would have done a lot worse by now. Sam, cuz Liz is always sniffin around Jason, Carly, just cuz she sees Liz for who she really is and hell Jason, he just needs to smack her back into reality! Liz has spent nearly half her adult life protecting that druggie, candy-striper banging, come dead-beat dad. She lied about Jake to keep Lucky from going back to licking the inside of a pill bottle. The reality is THIS…Jason is a douche and Jake dying doesn’t really change any of that…Of course Guza and co are hell bent on making this story solely about Jason’s pain…Screw Jason’s pain and his shrew of a BFF, Carly aka Cujo too…He doesn’t deserve to mourn that little boys life because he chose to walk away….and I don’t care what Liz said…I’m a woman and nobody could keep me from my child NOBODY!!!

That’s 100% right on…no matter what Liz said, Jason chose to walk away. He could have known his child and spent time with him. He was always just too busy running after and protecting others. Jake was a beautiful and precious little boy who Jason will never ever know, and I hope this bothers him on a daily basis until the day he closes his eyes! And I swear, Jake better not have died in vain, so that Jason and Sam could have a child together. That would turn so many stomachs, and GH would definitely lose fans and ratings.

I thought the acting was suburb with all the actors.
As I recall Jason gave up all rights to Jake because of his mob connections. But he did look after him from a distance and the scene with Jason and Jake playing with the motor cycle toy, in the penthouse, really played into Jason keeping the toy. Walt Willey Brings All My Children’s Jackson Montgomery to General Hospital

Look for another legal eagle character from a former ABC soap opera to pop up on General Hospital!

News today out of Soap Opera Digest has that none other than Walt Willey set to reprise his role as All My Children’s Jackson Montgomery on upcoming episodes of GH in July.

Willey played Erica Kane’s (Susan Lucci) love interest and the Pine Valley lawyer from 1987 through to till ABC’s cancellation of the series back in 2011.  The actor previously crossed-over to another soap opera in 1996, when he played Jack on ABC’s The City.

Photo: ABC

Taking to his Facebook account, Walt confirmed the news on his appearances on GH: “Hey Folks… Been sitting on this one for a while but now I’ve been given the clearance to announce that “Jackson Montgomery” is visiting Port Charles! I’ll be doing a few episodes of General Hospital, due to air mid July. So excited to reprise my character and see and work with old friends! I’ll keep you posted on any details. “Jackson” in Port Charles…who would have thought it? Let me, and ABC, know what you think about it!”

Could Jack’s sudden arrival in Port Charles have to do with the SEC and the trouble that Carly (Laura Wright) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) find themselves in?   Will AMC fans get to see Cameron Mathison and Willey share scenes together again?  Mathison played Ryan Lavery on the beloved former soap opera … or might Jack go up against Martin Grey in a GH legal battle, so Michael E. Knight and Willey could share scenes together again since their AMC days?

So, excited to see Walt on General Hospital? What do you think brings Jack to Port Charles? Weigh-in below and stay tuned.

B&B’s Scott Clifton Reflects On His Conflicted Emotions on Winning Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Over Y&R’s Kristoff St. John

The Young and the Restless’ beloved Kristoff St. John (ex-Neil Winters) passed away back in February of 2019, and at the age of 52-years-old.  Back in 2017, St. John along with The Bold and the Beautiful’s Scott Clifton (Liam), were nominated alongside each other for the Lead Actor in a Drama Series category at the 44th annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

A win for either would put them in the Emmy record books to become the only actor to win all three of the Daytime Emmy acting categories as of that time: Outstanding Younger Actor, Outstanding Supporting Actor and Lead Actor.

During his appearance on Maurice Benard’s You Tube series, State of Mind, Clifton talked about the emotions and ups and downs of eventually winning the Emmy over St. John, while knowing how much it meant to Kristoff, and given late actor’s reel. In it, St. John shared scenes with the late Nichelle Nichols, who played Neil’s dying mother.

When discussing his three Emmy wins with Benard, Scott expressed: “It’s beautiful, but remember Kristoff St. John.  I got to do a couple of events with him, and I got to talk with him, and the year that I got ‘Lead’, he was nominated.  He and I both had a Younger Actor Emmy and a Supporting Actor Emmy, and if one of us won, everybody was telling us, we would have this record of the first actor in daytime to have a Daytime Emmy in all three categories.  And, he told me, and this was months before he passed away, he told me, it was really important to him to win that.”  It was then, an emotional Clifton shared: “That Emmy is not worth it to me. It’s bittersweet.”

Photo: NATAS

As to how Scott feels he wound up with the gold statuette, the B&B star acknowledged, “So much of that it is who happened to be submitting that year, etc, and this was the first year they changed the rules. All I did was take advantage of the new rules, and I was smart about it.  I did not have the best performance, but they changed the rules where instead of submitting one episode through the year, you could submit a 20-minute tape and you could grab (scenes) from whatever episodes, and I made a story with it. I was playing the voters, but I didn’t have the best performance.”

In tribute to St. John, Clifton said, “His performance  was beautiful, but it was all in a hospital.  It was so intimate and small, and controlled and authentic, and mine was all over the place, but I told a story.  I’m convinced that’s the only reason I won.”

Courtesy/CBS

Scott’s reel that year was also outstanding, so many could see why he won the coveted prize and made Emmy history.

Check out the poignant story as told by Scott to Maurice in the latest episode of State of Mind below.

Then, let us know what you thought about Scott opening up on of his career-defining moments via the comment section below.

General Hospital’s Réal Andrews and Finola Hughes Deliver the ‘Power Performances of the Week’

Two different storylines, two noteworthy performances, and both from General Hospital, made our weekly kudofest.  The first, belongs to the heartbreaking performance that still has everyone talking by Réal Andrews as Marcus Taggert.

Last week’s episodes of GH, brought with it the results of the DNA test that ‘proves’ just who is Trina’s (Tabyana Ali) biological father, Taggert or Curtis (Donnell Turner)? When Trina opened the envelope to reveal the answer in front of Portia, Curtis and Taggert, she announced it was Curtis, who was her dad.

However, if you watched the scenes carefully, you saw the subtle work by Andrews as he was attempting to remain calm before receiving the answer and what followed afterwards, but that was in front of Trina, Portia and Curtis and his attempt to put on a brave face through it all.  In reality, Taggert was devastated by the news.  When he said his goodbyes, Taggert got inside the GH elevator.  Once there, he lost it and began to cry, punching the elevators walls with his fist.  A five-hank

Meanwhile, Finola Hughes once again showed us the layers and the veracity of Anna Devane. This time, while at WSB headquarters, Anna’s past as a double agent comes to light.  Agent Hersley had her under arrest, as she is being accused of treason against the state.

Courtesy/ABC

While Anna’s past as a DBX double agent were known to the agency, they weren’t known to the public. Thanks to Victor’s will reading and the revenge plot he set in motion against her, now Anna is up against more formidable foes.  When speaking with her lawyer, Martin Grey (Michael E. Knight), Anna says how can she dispute the charges against her when they are true?  She realizes in this instant that the WSB wants to hang her out to dry to cover their own asses.  Hersley threatens Anna, that if she fights the charges, they will be forced into looking into the actions of her associates, Robert Scorpio and Annie Donnelly.

Not having it, Anna throws down saying she will seriously embarrass the WSB if they pursue this … and if anything happens to Robert, Annie or anyone else she cares about, she will take the bureau down with her.  After Hersley caves, Martin asks Anna what happened. Anna states she is no longer an agent and will never be again.

This material gave the mighty Hughes the material to shine, as Anna went from having the rug pulled out from under her, to fighting back, to now not knowing what her future holds after saving others.

Courtesy/ABC

For all the reasons cited above, Michael Fairman TV names the work of Réal Andrews and Finola Hughes as last week’s ‘Power Performances of the Week”.
