As has been speculated, Daytime Emmy-winner and longtime favorite, Steve Burton (Ex-Jason, GH, Ex-Dylan, Y&R) has boarded the upcoming 2nd chapter of the Peacock streaming series, Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem.

Soap Opera Digest confirmed the news on Friday, followed by Days of our Lives head writer, Ron Carlivati who tweeted,We’re BEYOND excited about this news! #BeyondSalem #Days #SteveBurton”

Burton actually appeared on DAYS early in his career back in 1988 the role of Harris Michaels.

No word yet on what role Burton will play on the upcoming limited-series.

Look for Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem to stream beginning on July 11th with five new episodes through July 15th.

The Peacock streamer is currently taping at DAYS’ Burbank Studios.

The addition of Burton, along with returning Salem faves, Kristian Alfonso (Hope) and Peter Reckell (Bo), should spike the series popularity even more in its second iteration.

So, looking forward to seeing Steve on Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem? What role do you think he will play? Comment below.

Since he left GH I’ve been wanting Days to snatch him up as the Peter DeMira recast! Steve world be epic in that role!

Days continues to always keep things fresh….
Looking forward to whatever role or appearance his has on Salem.
I was a fan of his on y n r but don’t follow GH. So nice to see him pop up on my next fave soap!

I think Steve is really a very selfish person. Look what he did to GH.The show had to be rewritten to accomodate his exit and actors as a result had to adapt to previously unwritten storylines for them. It was also really bad form to try and get out of being vaccinated because of his health and religion.I used to be a fan but no more. I won’t watch the new Beyond Salem if it means having to be subjected to looking at his face and his bad acting.

Meh. I don’t think much had to be re-written; it was pretty clear who was and who was not going to follow the vaccine mandate, and it is clear (to me) that Steve Burton and Ingo Rademacher both tried to fight prior to the deadline. And, I am sure TPTB knew both Burton and Rademacher wouldn’t prove their case prior to the deadline, so they had the time to write their exits.

Nothing was going on with Jax story-wise, so his quick departure did not impact any long term storylines. The added benefit of his departure is that Portia & Curtis now have a lovely home.

As for Jason, the months leading up to his departure saw so many twists and turns for the character. The surprisingly popular pairing of Jason & Britt was cut short to set up a rewrite of “the never ending love of Carly & Jason”. This culminated in a wedding ceremony and wedding night interrupted by Sonny’s “return from the dead”. If this had truly been a long planned story, Sonny certainly would’ve walked in on Carly & Jason in bed. With Burton on the canvas for only 6 weeks after, there was no time to have Sonny and him be adversaries. So, some rewriting was done and another death for Jason written in for a character who likely had a long term story arc.

Everybody has the right to their own choice. If anything, General Hospital shouldn’t have given him the ultimatum. It’s not selfish. Everybody should have the right to choose if they take the vaccine or not. It’s the right choice for some people, but for others it’s not.

Here we go again…
Yes he has a choice, but you also have to accept that Disney-ABC has a choice to decide the safety parameters for their workspaces.

And I have the right to go to work and not worry about idiots who won’t get vaccinated giving me a deadly virus. It’s called living in a society and public policy. We’re not talking about cutting your hair or wearing a tie, which have no effect on me. It most definitely is selfish. But everyone knows that already. And FWIW, GH is doing just fine without both of them.

Doing just fine? Really, because I haven’t seen GH in months… Just some lame “Zombie Parasite Nina That Ate Port Charles” horror movie running every day in its place.

What channel is GH on now?

Satan…What are all your problems with Nina?

Love Nina. And she brings out the best in
Maurice, who was acting rather somnolent.

Thats true Harry, Nina has rejuvenated the character of Sonny and the two of them seem to be having fun.

Is “rejuvenated” a synonym for “castrated” now?

She’s like the new Frodd & Whiny Heiny combined into one. Being wedged into too many storylines. Everyone being written out of character to accommodate this stupidity. Backstories that make ZERO sense (like Willow being her kid??)

Never liked Nina 1.0 at all. The current version was OK when she was with Val the Bastard and thought Sasha was her kid. But ever since the Tricky Dick Nixon Falls thing, she’s become intolerable, and somebody needs to put a stop to this dragonshit already.

Which is why I hope Jason returns to Port Charles, once his 5 day side trip to Salem is over. Not saying he should kill Nina…. just clue Sonny into some reality. He ain’t listening to Carly, Michael, or Dante, so Jason’s probably the last one who could reach him.

Satan…My goodness. With all of your bad girl feelings about Nina I would have thought you would have liked her. As you describe her she seems a fit for your domain.

Nah…. she’ll end up in Hell eventually… but we aren’t in any hurry to have her down here.

I think Jason will return, save Sonny’s ass BUT they will be at odds because of Sonny’s choices since Jason was gone and there will be obvious tension for awhile. Jason will side with Michael. Jason and Britt will rekindle their relationship, Carly will be jealous but will lean on Drew.

Sonny doesn’t need saving he is doing okay without Jason and frankly if I had to choose I will choose Sonny every time so don’t forget Sonny taught Jason every thing he knows.

thumbs up

Since the vaccine does not even work because most that got covid were vaccinated. He made the choice that was right and would have endangered anyone’s heamth.

No we are talking about a virus that people get even with 4 shots I’m not sure Steve, whom has REAL antibodies, is threat to anyone‍♂️

Todd…You are correct…Steve and Ingo rights to go unvaxed. But it comes with consequences. As another actor I wouldn’t want to act opposite them, let alone kiss them. Does anyone know if either got covid? Unlike flus and colds with visible sneezes and coughs covid is invisible. So best those unvaxed keep away from other people at least out of curtesy to others. But way too late for this after loosening restrictions, watching baseball games on tv, etc. The more vulnerable are on their own. Everyone for themselves.

I agree, Greg. And I don’t miss Jason at all.

Gregory, if Mr. Burton worked at Amazon and made this choice it would be a non-issue. People have the right to choose. I think he should have taken the VAX but its Steve’s decision, not yours or mine.

I agree with you whole heartily.

Yea he could be like Kamala Harris and get 4 shots and still covid and spread it! Oh wait!! No he couldn’t!! He’s had covid and has more antibodies than her
Without taking ANY shot!! He’s not the selfish one here!!

I want Steve back on GH they need Jason back

Does GH want Steve Burton back?

They do if they want to be on the air on 4/2/23 or anytime after that.

I totally disagree.

GH is NOT going to survive if it becomes the Parasite Nina & FrAustin Manning-Holt (or whatever his 666th version of the same character is called) show.

The post 2012 Valentini regime characters will NEVER carry this show. Except to doom, destruction, and cancellation. GH right now is looking about as bad as it did right before the Spencers showed up in 1978, and right before the introduction of Sonny & the return of Luke & Laura in 1993.

Nobody talks about the Eckerts or Casey the Alien as classic GH characters. Nobody will ever say that about Nina or the OLTL castaways either.

They don’t need Jason; the canvas is much improved since his exit. And considering I don’t see him following the vaccine mandate, I don’t see him returning to the soap.

Steve joining is no big deal–
It’s not a career move-
Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem is a limited series.
It will be a fleeting moment.
Dragging Steve in is a / doggie in the window /
move– ‘he be wagging his tail’ lol
A limited series is just that- limited.

SuOOO, I agree with you, its stunt casting, a small job then Steve either goes back to GH or Y&R. I pick GH because he and Britt were really good together. Jason and Sam was one big sleeping pill!

Hi Timmm– hope you’re doing well-
ABC and CBS– Don’t both require all to be vaccinated?
Steve’s refusal to roll up his sleeve is killing his career.

Being immortal & in Hell, I haven’t kept track of such things, but… aren’t all the mandates lifted by now?

I was under the impression that most of the mortal governments up there were pretending the pandemic was “over” and that the corporations lifted their own mandates, once the governments did.

Sorry, but this is NOT a selling point for me…

If anything it is another turn-off for me from the Days of Our Lives franchise.

I totally agree with you, Scott.

ReRon Carlivati is “beyond excited” about writing for the guy he couldn’t wait to throw under the bus in 2012.

Yeah… color me a little suspicious on that one….

Well, since this is just a 5 day gig, let’s hope Steve gets back to his REAL job after this is done.

Steve has the right to do what he wants with his body we all do the vaccine does not prevent you from getting covid he’s a great actor he has history with General Hospital he belongs there the shows not the same without him the mandates have been lifted so hopefully Steve has a future with General Hospital as Jason Morgan that’s where the fans want to see him

I agree Tammy
Everyone has a right to decide what is good for their own body and the government does not have the right to demand we do something we don’t believe in!!!

I’m more excited about seeing Bo and Hope, and finding out how Bo is still alive.

I’d forgotten that Beyond Salem exists in an alternate universe, where Kristen is still played by Eileen Davidson,so that may explain why Bo is alive.

There are some rumors going around Hell that are even more interesting….

and that would be the appearance of Megan Hathaway in this new mini-series.

Now this is going back a long way… Megan was another one of Stefano’s long lost illegitimate children. She dated Bo as a teenager (long before she knew Stefano was her daddy) and never quite got over him. So Larry Welch used her to get between Bo & Hope back in the day, and Larry – who had tricked Hope into marriage in order to get her inheritance arranged for some sort of electrocution accident in a hot tub…. but the plan got screwed up and Megan ended up fried, and not Hope.

My aging Devil memory is a little fuzzy on the details, but that’s what I remember. If they do in fact plan on revisiting that old story, I really do hope it’s the real Megan, and not some drug addled delusion like the recent references to Stefano’s other dead daughter from the early 80s, Renee Dumonde.

Alternate universe… limited series…
Wish ABC would try this with One Life to Live.

It would be a good indication of how many fans are still around.

Funny that most comments are from men.

Its a new world Mary, us men FINALLY have a voice! We love our soaps! Men’s Lib, Men’s Lib, Men’s Lib!

Good for Steve. I quit watching GH regularly shortly after Steve and Ingo left. Now when I tune it in from time to time it’s just awful. The show has really declined rapidly and I would not be surprised in the least if it doesn’t get cancelled. Could we get like a daytime reboot on ABC of Dark Shadows? Now that would be interesting.

Yuck, never liked his robotic performances. Hated his attitude about spreading disease based upon his ego and his obnoxious ideas.

A AND MARCY’S DESIRE TO WORK TOGETHER AGAIN

In a moment that brought joy to those in attendance, A and Marcy both expressed a sincere hope and desire that one day they can work together again. Martinez explained, “There’s more avenues to pursue now than there have ever been. I would say just keep a good thought for it. I’ve been holding it for decades, and I fully intend to do whatever I can to make it happen. We’re engaged in trying to make it happen. And you know, we’ll see. I know we both want to do it.” Marcy simply nodded and responded “Amen.”

Melissa Braverman shared with Michael Fairman TV, her sentiments on hosting the Santa Barbara favorites. “Seeing A and Marcy together again, even virtually, was an absolute gift. ‘Days of Our Lives’ Officially Confirms Ryan Quan Returning as Co-Head Writer Beginning in July

Published

There is definitely a shake-up going down at the writing team at Peacock’s Days of Our Lives. Now, the long-running soap opera has confirmed, what has been previously reported, that current General Hospital breakdown writer, Ryan Quan is heading back to his old stomping grounds in Salem. This time as the series co-head writer.

The appointment of Quan comes with the official news that current co-head writer, Paula Cwikly, who was previously rumored to be departing the series, is not. She is staying with the soap opera and transitioning to a consultant role with the show. Now, Quan will join current co-head writer, Jeanne Marie Ford to steer the ship for the characters on the canvas.

On Wednesday, TV Insider, reported the official confirmation and that Quan will return to DAYS next month in July. In a statement to the outlet, executive producer, Ken Corday expressed, ‘We are lucky to have Ryan back in the fold. There are very few people who have such a deep knowledge and understanding of our show’s history. Stay tuned!”

THE FUTURE OF DAYS OF OUR LIVES

Since Days of our Lives unusual production schedule tapes ten-months ahead of air, the new creative team’s vision led by Quan and Jeanne Marie Ford are not expected to stream on Peacock until mid-2027.

Days of Our Lives is currently renewed through its 63rd season. The former NBC soap opera which transitioned to Peacock in September of 2022, celebrate its 60th anniversary in November of 2025.

The writing regime change comes after NBCUniversal Media Chairman Matt Strauss revealed that Peacock is expected to turn a profit for the first time in the current quarter, punctuating their investment with the enduring soap opera on its platform.

As for Quan, his knowledge of Salem is tremendous. Ryan joined Days of Our Lives as a writer’s assistant in 2007 after some time over at Passions. He then spent two decades and held every position on the writing team where he previously served as co-head writer from 2016-17 alongside Dena Higley.

Later, when Ron Carlivati took over as head writer for 7 years in 2017, Quan became his right-hand man and main story consultant for his deep knowledge of the history and the legacy of the show. After Carlivati exited the show in 2024, General Hospital hired Quan in 2025.

So, what do you think about DAYS making it official with Ryan Quan as the new co-head writer of the series alongside Jeanne Marie Ford. What do you think about the fact we won’t see the changes on-screen till 2027? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

ABC Announces ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Texas Spin-Off Gets Straight-to-Series Order

Published

By

In a surprise move, coming a week after ABC unveiled its 2026-2027 fall television schedule, Grey’s Anatomy is getting a new spinoff co-created by the original series’ creator/executive producer Shonda Rhimes.

The new untitled medical drama will be written and executive produced by Rhimes and Grey’s Anatomy showrunner/executive producer Meg Marinis under the Shondaland and 20th Television umbrella. In addition, long-running ‘Grey’s’ star Ellen Pompeo will also serve as an EP of the spinoff.

The upcoming new series will debut midseason in 2027. This will be the first of Grey’s franchise not set in urban city or West Coast locale. According to Deadline, the new “edgy drama is about a team at a rural West Texas medical center — the last chance for care before miles of nowhere.”

Photo: ABC

In a statement, Marinis shared, “I am incredibly excited to expand the Grey’s Anatomy universe. This opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will embody the same heart, emotion and connection audiences have loved from Grey’s for more than two decades — all set in my home state of Texas. I am so grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating this dynamic world and feel so fortunate that I get to be a part of it.”

A NEW GROUP OF DOCTORS IN RURAL TEXAS

The Texas spinoff will feature a a new group of doctors, but there will be some connection to the OG Grey’s Anatomy and possibly to Debbie Allen’s character of Catherine Fox. The amount of episodes in the series order has not yet been determined. Previous Grey’s Anatomy spinoffs were the defunct Station 19 and Private Practice.

Previously, Grey’s Anatomy was renewed for its upcoming 23rd season while the amount of episodes is unclear.  The last two seasons the series produced 18 episodes.

It should also be noted, Grey’s Anatomy and the Texas spinoff would likely share a time period, which requires limited-run orders for both with Grey’s premiering in the fall, followed by the spinoff on the midseason programming block.

So, what do you think about a Texas spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy coming in 2027? Who would you like to see from daytime or primetime as some of the featured roles as new doctors? Put on your casting directors hat and let us know via the comment section below.
