Steve Burton Opens Up On His Decision To Join Y&R: "I don't want to work five days a week like I did at GH. I was on the air so much even I was sick of me!"

Daytime Emmy winner Steve Burton has taken lots of flack from his fans for leaving General Hospital, saying he was moving to Nashville, and then all of a sudden popping up and signing a deal to come to The Young and the Restless so soon after he was “killed” off a beloved mob hitman, Jason Morgan.   Now with his new role of Dylan McAvoy, Burton is set to debut on the number one soap on CBS on January 29th.

Steve does reveal that he has short term contract with the number one soap as of now and that the show is trying to dress and make him seem different than Jason of Port Charles! In a new interview with Michael Logan of TV Guide Magazine, Burton opens up about why the decision to come to Y&R and not stay at GH and more.  Here are a few excerpts below!

Burton on if GH executives did not try hard enough to keep him and if his decision to leave had anything to do with Jason’s story: “I don’t feel it had anything to do with story. The flying back and forth was the sticking point. If I was still living in California, I’d still be with GH. It was too difficult production-wise to work things out and I understand that. I know how the business works and I’m not going to get mad over it. I don’t want a show to break its back for one actor. It’s not right. Besides, it really felt like it was time for me to go. I was gracious. They were gracious. There are no hard feelings with me and executive producer, Frank Valentini.  I  don’t want to point fingers. I know there are a lot of disappointed fans. They don’t really understand what goes on behind the doors. They don’t understand why I wouldn’t go back to play Jason if I’m ready to work again. But what happens at GH should stay at GH.

Burton on the deal he has with Y&R which gives him freedom to go back and forth to Nashville often: ” I’ll get a lot of long weekends and frequent weeks off so I can get back to Nashville. I don’t want to work five days a week like I did at GH. (Laughs) I was on the air so much even I was sick of me!”

Burton’s message to his fans:  “Please hang in with me on this! I’m a little nervous so cut me some slack. (Laughs) Maybe put the TV on mute for my first couple of episodes and look at the new hairdo. Everything’s gonna be great…I promise!”

So soapers, are you content with Steve’s explanation? Are you willing to give him an opportunity to explore a new character? Will you be willing and open to tuning-in and wishing him the best when he hits the airwaves on Y&R? Let us know your thoughts!

I’ll be watching, with volume up! While I’m still sad that he’s not on my beloved #gh, I wish him well. I’ve been watching Y&L for a couple of years so I know what’s going on and it will be interesting to see how they integrate this character. It’s gonna be hard for anybody to look at him and not see “Jason”.

Well I LOVE SHARON!!! if he is put with Sharon she is so great she will save him from being bummed off

HE WILL DO FANTASTIC WITH THE GREAT SHARON CASE 🙂

Curious to see if he’s more than the one dimensional actor he was on GH.

I knew that was the situation. Steve is a very good guy and he loved working with his GH buddies and of course he would leave under good conditions… he’s a nice guy and a profesional! I am happy to hear that it’s a short contract because maybe GH could get him back as Jason in the future with a similar deal… we can only hope! I would still like to see him return as Jason Q. Of course… I will watch him every episode he is on Y&R and the volume will be on and I am just happy he is working and we get to see him stretch in a new role. Sort of like how much we love Bob Woods as Bo Buchanan… but how great it was to see him in his new role on The Grove the series!

Best of luck Steve! From his tweets and FB posts it sounds like he is having fun with the group at Y&R.

I can understand his reasons, just mad at ABC for not trying harder to accomodate him.Seems like CBS is a little more savvy in that regard. Hope he comes back someday & I’ll be rooting for him.

I’m with you Sherrie. I also just wish he would’ve said this earlier. He could’ve avoided this whole mess!

As a long time fan it frustrates me that
he did not share more when he left GH.
He has the right to work anywhere he wants
just as fans have the right not to like it.
Just wish he was as loyal to his fans as
He is to Jill!? I hear mixed things about
her..I however, as much as I was a fan
If SB will not watch! My loyality is to GH.

I am with you I will never watch y and R I am a loyal GHer I am hoping he comes back to GH

Y&R’s loss is GH’s gain.

This is the problem that GH had was that certain characters were worked to death. The audience was tired of seeing Sonny/Carly/Jason daily doing the same story 100 mill times. The problem is if an actor decides to leave, a void is left open. More balance the better.

Even MB has said that he likes the ensemble and range he is getting at the new GH. But..Why go to the EP who was the source of the work overload?

Definitely agree with being tired of the same characters and practically the same story over and over. I think the new regime is doing a much better job of using the entire canvas and moving story along.
I hope Steve does well at Y&R. I think he doesn’t have to worry about the work overload this time though, since he worked out the deal before he signed.

But..Why go to the EP who was the source of the work overload?

Good question. I hope he doesn’t hog up all the airtime on Y&R and he brings something to the show that it is currently lacking. I like Y&R so I’m curious to see how it turns out.

This does sound like a good arrangement for him personally, so I understand his decision. I enjoy GH much more now that it is a more balanced show. Win/Win.

speak for yourself I never tired of Jason sonny carly or sam

SHAME on you who think Steve Burton, the ACTOR, owes you anything – that you feel betrayed, please!

What is with this world of self-entitlement anyway?

I am so saddened that this has gone on so long and, hopefully this article will end all the nastiness.

It is HIS life and he can do with it as he pleases. You don’t want to watch him on Y&R, so don’t. Just leave the man alone already. Enough is enough.

Amen, Christine. As a Burton fan, I am glad for the chance to see the actor stretch his wings in a new opportunity.

Actors live off of the fame they achieve through their fan base. It gives them ammunition for higher salaries, better roles and scheduling perks. They earn their fan base through good acting and building a relationship with them. If any actor wants their fan base to follow them from role to role, they should treat them with respect.
I feel that Mr. Burton disrespected his fans by not telling them that scheduling was the main issue. If he had said that, none of this would have ever been a problem. Did he ‘owe’ fans that statement, no – but if he wanted to keep them as fans, yes.

I get what you are saying, but you continue to prove my point.

What business of ours is any of this?

I love the actor Ryan Gosling. He can do no wrong in my book. I watch all his movies. So what business is it of mine what he decides to do in his personal life? If he chooses to take on a role or not? Where he decides to live? Oh, or does this only apply to soap actors because their fans are like rabid dogs sometimes?

Personally I think Steve Burton took the highroad and didn’t feel the need to explain his decisions and create chaos. Maybe he is not that good at public speaking and he wanted to address this situation after some grass grew over it. So what?!

Some celebrities would do themselves a favor by keeping quiet. Just look at a few such examples that got themselves into trouble in recent years by talking. Remember the things that Ashton Kutcher said that led him to hire PR for his Twitter? Or what about Neil Patrick Harris and his comments about Eric Braeden? What about Oprah and ALL the things she says that get her into hot water (cows, soaps, AIDS, etc.)? Does Melissa Reeves ring a bell?

I just wish that the people of today would accept the fact that they are not entitled to anything. Just like the solicitors that come to my door – I don’t have to open the door to anyone but law enforcement, but THEY believe otherwise. I have people that trespass my front lawn to take lemons OFF my tree because they feel THEY are entitled. This situation is no different.

Steve doesn’t have to explain himself to anyone but himself and his family. You can either accept it or not. For me this is beating a dead horse and I am done commenting. I am glad some people understand and feel the same way I do. It shows maturity. I am not trying to be mean, but when I read comment after comment about how “betrayed” the fans feel, it makes me sick.

DITTO, especially his fans that forked out money for his P.A’s, Monavie, The 90 Day Challenge and Port Chuck.

His popularity on GH, from his fans KEPT him on GH all these years and he also made some good money off his fanbase.

I agree. I am a little weary of this topic, I think this like the third or fourth time this subject has been raised. The only thing – and this might be the cynic in me, although I do agree it is his life and he can do what he wants, but right now, with both SB and JFP coming out to TV Guide with these explanations– it smacks a little like spin. They want to do damage control, to smooth things over with fans of SB from GH, hoping they will want to watch him on CBS, but also they get all this publicity to promote his new gig. But spin or not, I think we both agree it is time to move on from this topic- and lets hope his debut in GC lives up to all the hype.

Christine, I agree that Mr. Burton owes me nothing. I never said I felt betrayed by him, although I know what you mean – because a lot of people did say that.
But you missed my point, that I think Mary SF got…he didn’t have to say anything -but he did. The fallout from his statement led to other statements from him and JFP, that only made it worse. MY point was if in his original statement he had just said scheduling couldn’t be worked out with GH, and then went to Y&R – his fans wouldn’t have felt disrespected and none of this would have happened.
I am with all of you in that I hope this topic is done.

Christine… I’m with you… all the way! I can’t wait for him to be on Y & R! Whoo hooo!!!

i agree i love sb and watch both soaps and i am glad he still has work and wants to try spending more time with his fam!!

I don’t believe him. I’m sure abc and GH would have given him as much as he wanted. They have accommodated Tony Geary for years. I’m sure they would have worked it out with Steve. He wanted out-its that simple. I just wish he would have been honest.

Actually, he asked and ABC/GH couldn’t give him what he wanted schedule wise.

That’s baloney. If you read his interview in SID/October he initially said “Money and Scheduling” HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH HIM LEAVING. That’s why fans are so upset, because he’s given numerous answers and contradicted himself. All he had to say right from the start was “I want to explore” He didn’t do that and that’s why fans think he’s lying.

Steve did not lie to his fans! He did what he needed to do for himself, his family, his career. A career, the PTB at GH had absolutely no problem trying to damage with crappy storylines and negating a character this gifted actor had developed over the last 15 years. All he owed to his fans was a good job on the screen and he did that even when the show, the direction and the WRITING was extraordinarily terrible. I hope JFP does better for him this time around. GH after 30 years is dead to me. I’ll tune to Y & R just for Steve! Changing hair and clothes means nothing… it’s not those things that make a character… it’s the man and the actor! Good luck, Steve!

I agree that GH did him wrong.

Not telling the whole story is lying by omission. All it would have taken is one sentence saying scheduling was the main issue and none of this would have happened. And the fact that he thinks the fans wouldn’t understand sounds like he thinks we are stupid. Just my opinion.

I think I am just going to start replying to those of you who show maturity and not self-entitlement.

Well done, cmjavagirl. Your comments are spot-on!

Steve working five days a week on GH was a lie. Since FV/RC came on board over a year ago, he has never worked (taped) five days. No actor on GH tapes five days a week. This guy likes to exaggerate about alot of things, that’s why you can’t believe a word he says. Family time and moving to TN had nothing to do with him leaving GH. He left because he couldnt’ stand working for FV and RC.

You know… you can believe what you want. This is probably the last time I’ll be commenting. I’ve read through the string and it’s really for the most part deplorable how you all think that this man has lied, taken advantage and misled you in any way.

The fact that he did not point a finger at the PTB at GH and ABC not being able to come to terms on a new contract for him that met his needs speaks volumes for the man. The fact that he didn’t put the management to whom he was loyal for 21 years also speaks volumes. If Mr. Burton made certain things and events available to his fans they were in no way obligated to attend. If you did and you had a good time then you got your money’s worth. If you bought the juice or did the diet just because Steve was selling it and not from real need or want then that’s just silly and that’ on you not on him!

Telling people, his fans, the public that he was leaving the show to which he’d been loyal after 21 years to move his family to another state and change his way of life is his right. And really none of our business!

I’m certainly NOT telling him that I just moved from NJ to another state and was that okay with him. I also didn’t tell him that because of the absolutely terrible writing to which his character and he were subjected on GH that I was no longer watching even though I missed seeing him on my screen!

NOW… you think he lied… you think what you want. HIS real fans know the truth. HE did what was necessary to not burn any bridges in the industry in which he makes a living… I say smart man. He didn’t make chaos or point fingers of blame at the horror that GH has become… good for him, again!

He’s a business man who needs to work and support his family. He makes decisions based on what’s best for him and his own. He’s been nothing but wonderful to his fans for a lot of years. And again, I’ll say that ABC treated him abominably. For YEARS he was the GH go to guy… anyone the PTB wanted to ‘sell’ to their viewing public was paired with him for a lot of years. His fan base put a lot of money in the coffers at ABC.

And when Mr. Burton was leaving THEY treated us with disrespect… NOT Steve! They were the one that said they were working to write such an important character off the canvas in a respectful way… instead they did the opposite and strung the Jason Morgan fans along to think that he wasn’t really dead and would be returning. THEY did this so that the JM fans would continue to watch while the new writers did nothing but denigrate this beloved character by rewriting entire histories… including his!

HOW you think this man is the one that lied to you is highly misguided, and while I don’t wish to speak for Mr. Burton… fans that don’t believe in him and honor him for all the joy he’s brought to them, are quite frankly fans he simply doesn’t need. So, you all have a great time watching the crappy lying GH and I’ll tune in to watch an honest performance by Mr. Burton.

I’m with Christine… I need to only talk to people of maturity and not self-entitlement!

Look, if you like the guy, that’s all well and good. He’s just peachy. THAT’S YOUR OPINION. So just because I dont go along with your comments, I’m immature, etc. Because I don’t agree with you I’m wrong and you are right. HA. You sound like Obama.
He don’t owe YOU nothing. That’s fine. BUT do not speak for other fans.
And your comments about buying tickets to PC, Monavie, etc. The salesman, Steve, knows there is a SUCKER born every minute and believe it or not, there are fans that have fallen for his BS for years. $45 for a bottle of Monavie? $250 for a ticket to PC, the 90 day challenge (this kinda crap is on him) After he makes his money off fans, what happened to Monavie and this diet stuff? It’s gone. Probably not enough suckers with bucks anymore to make him rich. I’m sure he will be trying something else with the Y&R suckers. Not every fan is smart like you.
Steve screwed up with all his excuses for leaving GH. All he had to say right from the start was “I want to explore” He did not. Then all the other crap came out from him. So he and Jill are still trying to explain why he left GH. Why? You might not believe this BUT there are fans who are pissed off. So get over it. Accept it. Advise for Steve: Stop talking, STFU already…..you are only fueling the fire for more comments from your fans.

You seem quite bitter. And a bit nasty as well. I was not nasty in any of my replies especially to a specific individual. I like Steve. You don’t. I don’t think he lied. You do. I’m entitled. You’re entitled. That said, I don’t think, unless you have talked with him personally that you should cast aspersions on anyone’s character without having all the facts directly from Mr. Burton of whom you and other supposed Burton Fans are maligning.

oh man – I LOVE YOU BETTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Betty you said everything myself and a whole lot of others are thinking!
He played the game VERY WELL!!

He could have atleast waited a year after the lie of needing to move to Nashville to make it seem legit….that’s where you know he LIED…..

The Short term viewers think that he doesn’t owe because they have not watched GH as long – for those of us that have watched GH since the beginning you BET YOUR BUTT we feel betrayed! – the money spent on PA’s and that lousy band – Us LTV’er have invested in him to the continued growth of GH to remain a good show as we do all the other players – if we didnt support them they’d be out of a job! …..I do wish him luck on whatever he does in the future but he’s lost a TONS of fans by doing this…..he better pray JFP keeps her job.

HE WILL BE WITH SHARON NEWMAN AND SHE IS THE BEST CHARACTER ON THE SHOW

I’m curious, cmjavagirl, how they rewrote the character of Jason. Can you please explain? I’ve been watching GH for more than 30 years now. I didn’t notice a Jason rewrite with the new PTB.

Sorry to say, but I’m fine with him gone. I used to love Jason, but I think GH is better without him.

Ditto.

There is a HUGE void now that Jason is gone he is a HUGE part of GH and it won’t be gone until Steve Burton returns

Steve said, “I know there are a lot of disappointed fans. They don’t really understand what goes on behind the doors. They don’t understand why I wouldn’t go back to play Jason if I’m ready to work again.”

Yes, we DO understand what goes on behind those closed doors, Steve. That is why if you had said just one thing about it, your fans wouldn’t be upset right now. The fact that you think we don’t understand, (TO ME) shows that you don’t respect your fans. You think they are too stupid to understand.
The fans won’t understand why you won’t go back to GH unless you explain it to them. You chose not to explain anything.
The fans are what got you where you are.

I don’t watch Y&R, so I’m not about to tune in just because Steve Burton joined the cast. I’m surprised that ABC didn’t find a role for him on Nashville since it films in his new hometown. Every actor has the right to stretch his wings, especially after playing the same role, and wearing the same black T-shirt for over 20 years. I wish him well. Frankly, I’m glad that Jason was killed off of GH because the character, as he had been written, had run its course. I feel the same way about Sonny’s character as well although I think both Maurice Bernard and Steve Burton are good actors. I’m just tired of having them shoved down my throat on a daily basis and held up as the heroes of the show, when in reality they are nothing but gangsters and killers.

I am glad that Sonny is there. The day Sonny leaves so do I without Jason or Sonny GH holds no interest for me I watch for them now that Jason is gone I watch for Sonny.

I agree. It was too much Sonny and Jason and not enough of all the Quartermaines, Bobbie and her family, the Weber family, etc. etc. Long time, established families disappeared so we could have more mob violence. I loved Sonny and Jason in their heyday, but not to the detriment of other characters. I like Sonny without the mob violence and him taking a turn in an ensemble cast. I miss Jason, but am disappointed in how SB left. I am not an entitled person, but feel I’m owed something from an actor who wanted to become famous and who was made so by all of us watching him day in and day out. He chose to make himself a famous public figure. Like it or not, he does owe the people who made him that famous public figure a little honesty

All that being said (in my above comment) I do wish Steve well at Y&R and in anything else he does.

At the risk of sounding like a pessimist, which actor of recent that was a legendary character elsewhere is still on YR? YR has enough core characters for plenty of storylines without adding new ones.

I miss u so much I just loved watching u on gh u where the show and will be missed

I WAS SICK OF JASON .EVEN ONCE A WEEK WAS TOO MUCH,

I wish some in general supposedly grownup fans would stop acting like spoiled children..
My god check yourselves 🙂
None are close personal family/friends of Steve’s nor involved in his personal life, to be included in what he does or does not do and his reasons for doing it..
When he left he made statements, I was fine with them as to why he left..
Apparently, what he said when he left was all he wanted to tell the public of his personal business…
Steve is a private person <——-
He said what he wanted to tell the public until some snoopy busybodies forced him to explain himself.. so sad ..

I will enjoy Steve doing his new and exciting thing on Y&R and can't wait to see his new shirts and his new hair cut/style!!
I'm happy that Steve has moved to on to improve his life..
🙂 🙂

New shirts and a new hair style still won’t make him a good actor.

Fans, as you say can “check themselves” by not trying to make a sow’s ear into a silk purse.

Y&R needs him like a hole in the head. It’s all about him being a FOJ – friend of Jill, and that’s it.

Great post, su000.

One thing is a certainty. If GH ever lures Steve back to play Jason he will get from them what he couldnt when he left: a taping schedule that lets him live with his family in Nashville. He would s till be playing Jason now if GH had allowed that!

I think Steve was burned out on the character and was ready for something new. They made concessions for Anthony Geary who lives In the Netherlands half the year. If Steve really wanted to stay I feel they would have worked something out for him. I think the fans would have felt less betrayed if he had just admitted that in the beginning.

I will always support Steve Burton, but am truly so disappointed that he will not be on GH! I’ve been watching GH for a very long time, and watched Steve/Jason since he started on GH. It’s sad that we all
fell in love with Jason/JaSam, and now he’s gone. And he left at a huge point in his love story with Sam.
They finally after 9 years got married, and just had a beautiful baby boy. They have wanted to have their
own baby for years!! Everything was finally what they and the JaSam fans have been waiting for, and now
he is gone. Many sad, dissapointed and angry GH fans. He was our number 1 heartthrob on GH. Jason
met and fell in love with the beautiful Sam McCall. That couple gave GH 9 yrs. of a relationship full of fun, intreage, danger, excitement, sorrow, love and hot steamy passion! They were the hottest and most loved
couple on GH!! Their chemistry was immediate, and lasted strong all those yrs. Now Sonny is left without
his mob enforcer and best friend/brother. GH is just not the same without our beloved Steve/Jason Morgan. I will always miss Steve, because no one can take his place. I wish him the very best in his life.
But, down deep I hope maybe someday he’ll return to his real family on GH……

I read the article and it’s good he explained. I still don’t think he’s that great an actor. Y&R and recently hired people more based on looks than acting ability. I don’t want to suffer through an acting class with Tyler or Mason or whoever else is on-screen. Avery and Nick are boring and adding another wheel to the car is not going to liven them up. Avery needs to go to NYC and start her own cooking/law show called “By the (cook) Book”.

I just want to say how sad it is for us Steve /Jason fans that the GH /ABC/
Higher ups wouldn’t give him a schedule that would help his family, and GH!!
It’s pathetic that GH lost its number 1 heartthrob, leading man to Y&R!! He is
a massive loss for GH, and a huge gain for Y&R. Very sad we lost Steve so
needlessly. I hope someday he will return back home to his GH family & fans
who will be waiting for him with open arms. Good luck to Steve and God bless…

I liked the comments about Joshua Morrow and his scruff and sweaters. It sounds like the dynamic duo (behind-the-scenes) of Joshua Morrow and Michael Muhney is about to gain a new member.

I hope the three of them have some silly antics to share. I still laugh at the thought of Joshua and Michael acting out Twilight or showing Michael’s lack of popularity backstage where he dropped his papers and the crew were less than friendly to him.

How much explaining does this poor guy have to do about HIS OWN LIFE, and the choices he makes for his family? His desire and willingness to explain this even further only shows how gracious and kind he is, and how much he appreciates his fans. I understand 100% that he chose a situation that makes it easier for him to spend more time with his family. As I have said before, I love GH, and miss Steve/Jason very much, but I am inclined to believe the powers that be at GH were not willing to give him the additional time off he needs (which is their perogative), and when given a more inticing offer by Y&R, he took it. I get that for sure, and look forward to seeing Dylan McAvoy. He is also a gentleman not to discuss what when on behind the scenes in his talks wth GH, that is proper and good for him. Long live GH, and I wish Steve much success on Y&R, and I look forward to watching Dylan McAvoy come to life, as I am sure Steve will do a wonderful job at making this character endearing.

Im in!!

So in this day and age of soap operas falling by the wayside because they are too expensive, we’re supposed to believe that GH would NOT love the idea of reducing Jason’s appearances to fewer days per week AND saving money at the same time? Exactly who does he think he’s kidding?

Just as he said he wanted to spend more time with his family, only to sign with another soap within seconds, this is a bunch of baloney.

I agree, Me. I don’t think Steve wanted to be at GH. And I don’t think GJ wanted to pay him what he wanted. Cartini doesn’t think the moon sets and rises with him and didn’t want to pay him major $ for less screen time. Paying him less for less screen time should have worked, in theory.

Steve is full of baloney in this interview.

So he never got time to got to Target working at GH? How about his off days, dark days and holiday weeks off? Such nonsense.

“Actors want to explore. Actors are gypsies. They are not supposed to have the same job for 20 or 25 yrs” Steve, most actors are lucky to get work at all and keep working, hoping a show won’t be cancelled and out of work again.

“I don’t want to work five days a week like I did at GH”. That’s a lie. (You didn’t work (tape) five days a week at GH this past year. NONE of the actors on GH work five days a week. You got your long weekends, off days and holiday weeks this year.)

“I don’t want to point fingers.” But you and Jill just did this week in your interviews.

“The flying back and forth was the sticking point.” Lie (You were flying back and forth with GH during off days, dark weeks, holiday weeks and you are doing it now for Jill)

“I don’t want a show to break it’s back for one actor.” (but you enjoyed it for 20 years when GH did break it’s back for you until FV showed up)

Your keeping up on GH since your exit. Steve said “Yea” (Lie, Steve claimed on Twitter he never watches GH)

I call this creative BS. First of all, especially under Frank & Ron, the character of Jason was NOT working 5 days a week! Just look at how much less Maurice Benard works…some actors are just not used to having off days. The new writers are to be credited for spreading the storyline wealth around. GH is all the better for that now. I can agree with Steve that it should be not about one actor who holds a show hostage. If GH WERE working Steve 5 days a week, then how could the show have survived such a gaping hole???? Besides if he was still working those 5 days a week, how the heck did he find the time to tour with his band or do those numerous club appearance…for which he was so handsomely paid? Sorry, no dice here. Enjoy YR Steve and I’ll enjoy my GH without the mopey Jason.

GH is the only soap I watch. Just because Steve Burton left the show does not mean that i will follow him. One soap is enough for me. I have better things to do with my time. He’s gone…It’s over…I say RECAST ….and let’s move on. There’s a lot of story he left behind.
I am sure GH’s casting director Mark Teschner will do a good job replacing Jason. HE HAS WON “FOUR EMMY’S” FOR HIS WORK. I am sure he will do a good job replacing Steve.
To the General Hospital cast and crew if you are reading any of this I want you to know that I support you 100%. Keep up the good work and I hope GH gets a long contract extension…

I agree. I really don’t care why Steve left. I will not be tuning in to Y&R just to see him. I wish him the best of luck and hope that he is happy with his new role. I’ll miss seeing him as Jason.

I think that Steve did want this all along but it just was not publicly known. The same think happend with Johnathan Jackson, he wanted more time off with his family, they would not give it so he left. Now has a new role on Nashville. I think that Steve also needed a character change, he never said he would not come back to GH, and it is left so he can return. Remember he is short term on Y and R..but if audience like him and he likes the show, it could last longer. I was sorry to see him leave, but mostly because it left his onscreen wife Sam alone. I wish him all the happiness that he searches for.

I like the Ryan Gosling analogy. I like his acting in pretty much anything. Real fans of SB will watch him in anything.

Anyone who doesn’t was never really a fan of the actor, just the character.

@pumpkinoodles….That is my feeling about it too. The majority of the people going off on Steve aren’t his fans at all.

Maybe they were fans of Jason, and I can understand they will miss him. But missing a soap character doesn’t warrant the attacks Steve has been personally subjected to. I’m beginning to think that many of the people accusing Steve of “betrayal” and “lying”, are people who hated Jason and possibly Steve too! Which is fine. But why are they lying about being his fans?

I’m glad he’s going to a show I watch!

Give me a break….That’s why your happy because he’s going to a show you already watch. He still should have been honest with his fans. I like Steve, I’ve met him a couple of times. No, I will not follow him to YR because I am at TRUE GH fan and they get all of my support.

Don’t buy it for a minute. Be happy, Steve, but I won’t be following you. Don’t trust the man any more.

Rock on Rodd….

Him and JFP are spinning things to their favor. They didn’t anticipate the backlash so they are doing damage control to the fans. Enough for those who say to get over it or say the fans shouldn’t be pissed. Don’t go around telling us how we should feel. We don’t do it to you. Your no better than them. I wish Steve uck. But no I will not be tuning in. In fact I e stopped watching Yr for months and have no intention of watching again. Team GH all the way!!!

ive watched u from day one when allen and monic adoped u so im a big fan so i feel what ever u decide 2 do with ur life i wish u well i also camand u on putting ur family frist that what seaparate the men from the boys good luck 2 u on YR I NO U WILL DO WELL I WILL B WATCHING DILLION

TV Guide Magazine: If GH had tried harder to accommodate your personal life would you still be there?
Burton: I don’t want to point fingers. I know there are a lot of disappointed fans. They don’t really understand what goes on behind the doors. They don’t understand why I wouldn’t go back to play Jason if I’m ready to work again. But what happens at GH should stay at GH.

I am no SB or Jason fan by a long shot and just was scrolling pass this GH/YR “shocking”(rme) news cuz saw it coming when JFP was announced YR EP. Good luck To SB but also good riddance. This crappy BS interview is why I am not a fan of this spoiled egomaniac businessman cuz he was never a good actor IMO. His telenovela plug was all it took for me too see that SB & JFP planned this around Emmy time and this is only my opinion; however this is his life so good luck but I am tire of hearing him whine & do damage control in the press so I will end with “Damn, SB don’t make no speech about it, just be gone already, Deuces.”

i am really sad to see steve bulton leave the show even now that jason has a son. but i will stay watching GH. i hope he enjoy his new person but i feel he should come back good luck best wishes steve i will miss you.

r hey going to bring someone else to play jason now or wait to see if steve comes back i hope he comes back

No, Steve would be playing Jason if GH would have maccomodated his schedule. He was moving his family to Tenn. Regardless, but he was willing to fly in and out to stay. GH nixed that so he left. yAnd R accomodated him.

Also, when Port Chuck has toured, its been when GH is dark. The ONLY way all 4 actors could be off the show for a week at a time. Club appearances and p.a. dates are on the weeken when actors are off. Please know the facts before you spout off and look the ignorant fool you are!

ithink fans need to realize that steve did what he neede to keep his family in nashville he really doesnt owe us anything but at least he went on the talk to answer some of the questions ,to some who are angry at him the only people he owed anything to is himself and his family steve is a talented actor and im sure he will be a good addition to y@r i will watch him to see his new character and i wish him the best of luck in his new role and to add i never felt betrayed it was just his time to move o n,i will miss him as jason but thats life….

You will be missed people should understand you can’t play him forever! Good luck and I guess I will stay faithful and watch y&r and see what’s happening! Will always miss Jason!

Please being back Steve Burton to GH. The show no matter who you bring back does not fill his shoes. I have watched G H for over 40 years. My friends and family all fe the same . Please do what it takes to bring him back. Thank you

I have watched General Hospital for as long as I can remember but with out Jason I am ready to stop watching it. I don’t know what is going on with the show bit Jason leaving and them making it look like Sam it gonna get with McBain is just sick!!!! If I don’t here some news soon about Jason coming back I will just have to cut out my day time tv. They use to have great storys but now it is like watching Days of our lives!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Burton,
I was one of your biggest fans. I would race home from work to see you on GH. Now I don’t do that anymore. You have broken a lot of hearts and I really don’t think that I can watch you on another show because no matter where you go you will always be Jason (Stone Cold) Morgan. I am sorry but I can’t see you as anyone other character. I do wish you the best and you will always be my favorite actor and I wish you the best. I can watch you in a movie but I will not watch you on another soap show, You don’t fit anything to me but GH. You have let a lot of fans down with this adventure you are on including me. GH is not he same and I hope that you one day return.

Cut Steve some flack? Heck no!!! We want him back at GH where he belongs. Ever since he left the show sucks, ratings are going down like the titanic, and the rumor mill is really turning that 2013 will be the last year GH will be on the air! Thanks A lot STEVE!!!

Nancy Lee Grahn’s Star-Studded ALS Fundraiser Reveals “I’ll Be There” Video Featuring Soap Opera Notables

Talk about your impressive line-up! It’s a soap fans dream and for a great cause. General Hospital’s Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) is prepping her one-night only ALS fundraiser which will feature many of her friends and co-stars.

The benefit is set for May 4th in Glendale, California. Slated to participate are Genie Francis, Jane Elliot, Peter Bergman, Maurice Benard, Eileen Davidson, Thorsten Kaye, Michelle Stafford, Stephen Nichols, Rena Sofer, Jason Thompson, Kelly Monaco, Melissa Claire Egan, Maura West, Kristina Wagner, Gregory Harrison, Trevor St. John, Kate Mansi, Kirsten Storms, Cynthia Watros, and many others.

On Wednesday, Grahn took to her social media and released an “I’ll be there” video shout-out featuring, Monaco, Elliot, Bergman, Bernard, West, Harrison, St. John and more. In a touching and important moment in the new video, Michelle Strogny, who is battling ALS, is featured.

Previously, in speaking with Soap Opera Digest on the impetus of the event, Grahn recalled, “I was actually doing Zoom events during Covid and I met this woman that I just fell in love with, Michelle Strojny. At the time, Michelle had been living with ALS for four years. Now, it’s five years. She is a mom of a teenage son, she has the most wonderful husband, and she has been dealing with this [disease] for quite a while. And obviously, there isn’t a cure yet. It’s not survivable yet. But as she says, it’s not incurable. Nothing is; it’s underfunded. But anyway, I just really dug this woman. She is so grounded and filled with grace, and she spends all of her time working to raise money for the cause. We did a fundraiser for her last year and then I thought, ‘You know what? The soaps don’t ever get together to do something for charity.’ Collectively, we have this amazing community and we don’t collectively use it for a good cause, and I think it’s such an easy thing for us to do and we could potentially really make a difference.”

As GH viewers know, Gregory Harrison is playing the character of Gregory Chase, who is also battling ALS in a touching storyline that is currently playing out shedding a light on this disease.

‘General Hospital’ Writer Shannon Peace Let Go, and Shares on Sprina: “One of My Only Regrets is to Not Have the Opportunity to Develop That ‘Ship’ Further”

As General Hospital’s new head writing team of Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahy gets off the ground and running, there are still changes a foot on the writing team.

Now comes word via breakdown writer Shannon Peace that she is no longer on contract with the long-running ABC soap heading into its 61st season. Peace shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram, thanking the fans, and the show for the opportunity and the importance of diversity in the writers room.

Peace began, “After almost 3 years on staff and 106 episodes penned, I am no longer on contract with General Hospital. Writing for this country’s longest running television serial drama has been an education of epic proportions; I will forever be grateful that I earned my WGA card on a daytime fixture that holds memories for so many.” (Peace pictured below with GH EP Frank Valentini and script writer, Charlotte Gibson from about ten months ago).

Shannon added “Even more importantly, as the sole Black breakdown writer (and only POC in the writers room) during my tenure, I pushed for vital interactions and discussions that prioritized inclusion, visibility, and representation”

The writer pointed to the example of vital interaction when in story, “Stella and Portia’s frank July 2022 conversation about the role race played in Esme’s framing of Trina is just one example of the impact I’m gratified to have had.”

Acknowledging former GH co-head writers was also part of Peace’s farewell expressing, “Appreciation to my former bosses, Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor – not only taking a chance on me, but for valuing my opinion and championing my voice.”

Many GH fans know that Peace was key to the development of the love story between Trina Robinson and Spencer Cassadine as played by Tabyana Ali and Nicholas Chavez. Shannon gave a special shout-out to ‘Sprina’ fans, “I also want to thank fans who were supportive of my work, especially the recognition of my love for ‘Sprina’. One of my only regrets is not having to develop that ‘ship’ further.”

She concludes her statement with,”In the aftermath of a historic writer’s strike that shed new light on the troubling ways writers are regarded in daytime, my sincere hope is that General Hospital recommits to valuing staff writer efforts and input, with a more intentional focus on diverse viewpoints — and thrives for another 60 years.”

Accompanying her post, Shannon added, “Thank you all for the love and support these last few years. I hope GH fans get all they hope for and more!”

So, what do you think about GH not renewing Shannon’s contract? Will there be more continued changes afoot? What do you think is the future of ‘Sprina’ anyway at this point as viewers wait to see if Nicholas Chavez officially returns to the show?  Comment below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Learns Britt Died and Tells Anna He Has Been Working For Cates Since November 2021

On the Tuesday, March 26th of General Hospital, Anna (Finola Hughes) and the viewers learn about where Jason (Steve Burton) has been for over two and half years. However, Jason gets some news of his own.

Anna is visiting Jason at the PCPD interrogation room. She asks him if he shot Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), which he flatly denies. Anna believes him, but she tells Jason it doesn’t matter, because video footage shows him on the roof at the time of the shooting

When talk turns to Jason not willing to speak without his lawyer present, Anna can’t grasp why Jason would instead spend an hour alone talking with John Cates (Adam J. Harrington).

Photo: ABC

It is then that Anna brings up that John went by “Jagger” and that the two of them knew each other in high school. Jason doesn’t recall much of his time in high school following his brain injury, but then he gets furious realizing John knew about “Jason’s” past. That is when Jason slams the table and tells Anna, “I’ve been working for John Cates since November 2021.”

Next, Jason explains further that he has been working as an informant for the FBI. Anna wants to know how this came about and he tells her that after the tunnel collapsed, and he couldn’t make it to Britt (Kelly Thiebaud)… all of a sudden he sees Anna’s face drop.  Anna is the first person to tell him that Britt died and was murdered. She tells Jason the killer is in custody, but he continues to be shocked, overwhelmed with tears welling up in his eyes. Realizing he has to pivot to save his life, Jason continues telling Anna how he wound up working with John.

Jason explains that after the tunnel collapse in Greece, FBI agents grabbed him and placed him under arrest and took him to Quantico where he met John. At Quantico, John played a recording of RICO violations and offered Jason a deal if he agreed to be an informant against Pikeman, the illegal arms dealer.

Anna hears from Jason that he thinks Pikeman is selling illegal arms to anyone flagged by the NSA but has ties to the WSB which they needed a civilian to infiltrate their organization as a military soldier, a mercenary.

Jason tells Anna he was a part of the team brought into eliminate Sonny (Maurice Benard). Every time an attempt was made on Sonny’s life over the last two years, a different team was sent to do the job. Anna gets furious when she learns that John told Jason his job was to kill Sonny and she was with John at the warehouse that night. Jason ensured the sniper missed Sonny and left the rifle behind. However, they were supposed to meet an extraction team. Before he was shot, Dante saw it was Jason on the roof and when he turned around with his hands over his head, Dante was shot by the other guy. Jason says if Dante dies, he’ll be charged with capital murder and then will be useless to the FBI.

Meanwhile, John visits Bobbie’s and runs into Carly (Laura Wright). She learns Jason is in custody and is going to head to the PCPD. Before she does, Carly has some words with Cates when she learns not only does John have a vendetta against Sonny, but Jason too.  Carly tells John he should recuse himself from the case.

So, what did you think about the moment when Jason learned Britt died? What do you think of Jason’s return storyline thus far and what we learned about Jagger/Jason and more? Comment below. But first, check out a moment from today’s GH with Jason and Anna.
